Fireworks 3.0 & Dreamweaver 3.0 are absolutely fabulous. I pre-ordered my copies and could not wait for them to show up. I have been using Fireworks since its 1.0 version and Dreamweaver when its 2.0 version released. The new features in both 3.0 versions are well worth the $$$ to upgrade. Fireworks 3.0 is by far the best web graphics editor on the market. You may also want to check out Macromedia's Flash 4.0 as well. Shockwave websites cannot be beat. 4-0 out of 5 stars Innovative Time Saver
As with all Adobe products this one speaks "quality and usability."

The greatest advantage about Adobe Golive is that it allows you to be creative without worrying too much about the hassles of HTML formatting. You'll find that this program meets your needs if you do a little web design work or a lot of web design work. From the quickie type "you-hoo" we're here type of site to the stylish "Corporate Presence" mega-site you'll find the tools you need in Adobe Golive.

I especially like the ability to be able to drag objects around the page (like pagemaker) and drop them where I want them, they actually stay there - imagine that.

And we all know that sometimes we want to tweak that one little thing... well Golive doesn't mess with your tweaks like some of the other products I've used. You can edit the HTML, CSS, Javascript (or whatever) and the program will leave it alone.

Adobe Golive is a real creative workhorse. All of the major bells and whistles are handled quite well. There's syntax highlighting and everything else I needed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply THE best web dev combination
DreamWeaver Rocks. Fireworks Rocks. Together they make for a spectacular web design/development combination.

Dreamweaver is packed with features for the beginner through advanced web developer; it's easy and intuitive to use. It may take you a while to learn all the capabilities, but with each successive feature you discover and master, the development process becomes easier and faster.

Fireworks is the best in class web graphics software. It integrates very well with DreamWeaver. Creating animated GIFs is a snap, as is image optimization (file compression), image map creation, and exploring full tables (HTML and all!) for use in DreamWeaver.

You simply cannot go wrong with this package. Photoshop still has its place, but if you focus exclusively on the web and don't need to do exquisite image editing this bundle is all you need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome
I've been doing web development since 1996 and, to be honest, I fought tooth and nail against giving up Windows Notepad as my web development tool of choice. Microsoft FrontPage really ruined web development software for me and I pretty much vowed to avoid such applications in the future. Fortunately, my boss insisted that I use Dreamweaver and even sent me off to classes to learn the nuts and bolts. And now I'm hooked.

Dreamweaver is simply awesome and I can't imagine ever going back. Whether your a novice or professional, you'll come to love Dreamweaver's simple interface and ability to tackle otherwise tedious tasks -- such as Cascading Style Sheets, tables, layers -- with ease. Adding Flash, Shockwave or Java is as simple as it can possibly be. I took classes on Dreamweaver, but only because my boss insisted. The software is pretty easy to learn, though those with web development experience will have a fuller understanding (and respect) for the capabilities of the product.

The single most powerful part of Dreamweaver is the use of templates, which allow you to use the same look and feel across multiple pages and have all those pages updated when you make changes to the template. This alone will save you hours!

Another great thing about Dreamweaver is that creates clean HTML. This is something that any developer who has ever had to edit the HTML directly will respect -- especially if you've ever tried to make sense of FrontPage HTML nonsense.

Finally, the FTP application in Dreamweaver is outstanding. It keeps track of every page, graphic, link, etc. in your site and any change to any of them is cascaded through the entire site -- automatically updating links where necessary. With a simple click of a button your site is uploaded to your webserver.

There are so many features I haven't covered, but with the little I have this product is worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stupidly Discontinued!
Get Macromedia Dreamweaver 4. They have turned this once great web design package into a hybrid cross of something that looks like Netscape/Flash and called it Dreamweaver MX 2004.

I used Dreamweaver MX 2004 for a month, uninstalled it and went back to Dreamweaver 4. It really is that terrible and the work space is terribly cluttered making it very hard to work within.

Bottom Line -- Get Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 instead if you can find it. Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 is a very good web design package that knocks Dreamweaver MX 2004 for ten. You will simply hate Dreamweaver MX 2004 when you install it on your system. I nearly barfed after a month of using that *new* completely hostile and non-user friendly piece of unstable and slow excuse for a web design software program.

-This review is for Dreamweaver 5- I absolutely love this software. I had Adobe Go Live but I never seemed to take to it like I did with Dreamweaver. Once it was installed within a day, I had made several webpages. As I continued to use it I learned more and more intuitively without needing much guidance from the manual. As a user you can create your webpages visually or in code mode, this makes it a great option for anyone no matter what your skill - it can be adjusted to suit your needs. You can learn and develop your webpage skills as much or as little as you like. You do not need to be intimidated by it's high price. You can learn it and the cost is well worth the output. ...

Amazon.com Review

Adobe has taken GoLive, its Web design and management tool, and improvedits integration with other applications, adding a number of useful extras in theprocess. In addition to the design elements of the program, GoLive 6.0 includessections devoted to Web site management and maintenance, as well as teamcollaboration.

The main working area of the program deliberately looks much like other Adobeapplications, making it easy to move between them. The main editing windowsfloat on the GoLive worktop, with palettes of functions controlling the tools.Users can now drag and stash palette tabs individually at the edge of thescreen.

The key new features of GoLive 6.0 can be divided into three areas. Under thedesign-and-develop category comes greatly improved table handling, with newediting features--particularly selection--and increased control of HTML code.Adobe has also integrated GoLive more closely with Photoshop, Illustrator, andLiveMotion.

Manage functions govern how several people working on same aspect of a sitehandle different versions and revisions. The revision list is a good example, asit offers full details of who made certain changes to what, along with the timethe changes were entered.

Finally, there's the deploy function, for when you finally launch your site. This feature offers new and improved support for WML authoring, writing fordisplay on WAP devices, XML, QuickTime, and more of the growing family of Webstandards.

Overall, GoLive is a worthwhile improvement if you're thinking about upgradingfrom a previous version. For newbies, make sure you're serious about Web sitemanagement, as this is a heavyweight tool. --Simon Williams ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly improved, powerful with the new Web Workgroup Server!!
I stepped over GoLive a few years back, don't remember which version, but didn't get into it then.
I decided to get into it now during version 5 however, with the free upgrade to version 6, since I couldn't be bothered waiting for it to reach the market!
However the user-friendlyness has been improved a lot with GL6 and it is now not only a lot stronger and yes, slower, but also a bit easier to get around.

Oh, dear I forgot to mention the diagrams when I submitted this review the first time!! They have appered to me as the best thing yet with GL - just because I find them very useful. When you first start a site up (you can do it later too of course), you have the ability to create a site diagram, OK that might not be that revolutionary.. What is so great about them is that you can create them with different symbols from the objects palette; database, PDF, page etc and once you've set them up GL actually creates a site with all the pages you've specified in the diagram. Further more you can show the diagram as a PDF or SVG file to your client online! Of course you can use the diagram as a reference throughout the design process.

I was recommended GL years ago by fellow webdesigners in London who told me that it would be good for me since I don't know html and that way I would learn it. My London co-workers couldn't have been more right - I have learnt a lot since I've gotten GL and I am still learning. Now with version 6 I also find that I am learning ASP, JSP etc as well and I mean I learn it practically, there is only so much you can read yourself to!!

Web Workgroup Server 1.0 that comes with this version is also something that I've started to enjoy, especially with consideration to that it now makes it a whole lot easier for me and my collegues worldwide to check pages etc in and out of a website, without me having to do, way too much supervising either - it saves time for me and that is valuable!!
It's got a weblog with it, but I still haven't been able to figure out whether or not that shows who has been trying to log into the server and who had problems, or who got in straight away.
The other bad thing is that I was reading the instructions for how to set it up and while I was doing that, I missed the few seconds I had to change the "system" and "password" -> I found myself locked out of the server and the only way I saw, was that I had to re-install the whole thing and fill in the password before time-out. That was annoying, but of course it is very likely that I missed something, since I had to do that, considering the server is a whole new program and part of GL..
After I got in, it was however fairly straight forward to configure the website, publishing server and users.
I find that Adobe is best for me since there are so many resources over at Adobe Studio for one, you can find free actions and new templates and just get so many great ideas from other users on how to do things quickly. It's great because there is so many ppl around who you can ask for help if you need it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent time to switch from FrontPage
I've been a dyed-in-the-wool FrontPage fan for the past few years. I bought GoLive 5.0 thinking I'd make the switch to a product that's a bit more os, platform, agnostic. While that was the case with GoLive 5.0, I found it to be too cluttered and difficult to "pick up", so I stuck with FrontPage. The upgrade to 6.0 is truely a wonderful thing for those of us using FrontPage who are looking to migrate to another tool for web dev. GoLive 6.0 is now much more organized and easier to understand for those used to working in a FrontPage environment. I'd definately recommend giving it a try. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Adobe's latest revision of its Web publishing application continues tomature into a powerful and sophisticated tool. Packed with new features, AdobeGoLive 5.0 offers enhanced source-code control to help Web teams edit andmaintain large sites; improved linking of Photoshop, Illustrator, and LiveMotionfiles; and a new interface that's designed to increase efficiency.

For designers who like to get under the hood, GoLive 5.0 now featuressimultaneous viewing of HTML source code and a WYSIWYG view of the page itself. Each window is editable, and changes take place immediately in both windows.GoLive also can import native Photoshop, Illustrator, and LiveMotion documents. When you double-click on an element in GoLive, the document is opened in theapplication that created it. After changes are made in the native applicationand the document is saved, the file is automatically updated in GoLive.

Two welcome new features are the History palette for going back in time andundoing a set of actions, and the Alignment palette for accurately lining up anddistributing rows and columns of elements.

If GoLive has a drawback, it's the number of palettes that sprawl across thescreen; a high-resolution monitor or dual-monitor setup goes a long way towardalleviating the crowd factor. Compatibility with Photoshop 6 and Illustrator 9is problematic, but presumably a patch or some new version of GoLive (version5.1?) is imminent; they are, after all, part of the same Adobe family.

Clearly, Adobe's GoLive 5.0 has some stiff competition (namely, Macromedia'sDreamweaver), but GoLive also has some virtues of its own. If you're alreadycomfortable with other Adobe applications, GoLive's learning curve shouldpresent only a small hurdle. The application is stable and deep, and has enoughfeatures to help any site designer build almost any kind of site. --MikeCaputo ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's simply the best for designing computer-based training
For those who are considering the upgrade, it is worth it. I've just begun to use AWARE 6 and three things have already made it worthwhile.

1. When an icon is empty, it is greyed-out in the design window. This eliminates much of the guess work.

2. One-button publishing. Nice.

3. RTF editor. This is the bread-and-butter of the new version as far as I'm concerned. You can either import rich text files or create them within the RTF editor. The best thing is that you can insert variables and functions into the objects.... I would've upgraded for this feature alone.

To say the least, I'm pleased with it. ...

Get this instead ... if you can find it...

5-0 out of 5 stars Review for Dreamweaver 5
-This review is for Dreamweaver 5- I absolutely love this software. I had Adobe Go Live but I never seemed to take to it like I did with Dreamweaver. Once it was installed within a day, I had made several webpages. As I continued to use it I learned more and more intuitively without needing much guidance from the manual. As a user you can create your webpages visually or in code mode, this makes it a great option for anyone no matter what your skill - it can be adjusted to suit your needs. You can learn and develop your webpage skills as much or as little as you like. You do not need to be intimidated by it's high price. You can learn it and the cost is well worth the output. ...
I don't have to look for anything else, I have hit paydirt with this program! If you are using Front Page or any other visual interface for ease, you know that you are trapped into a forced format, get this program and you will understand the freedom of control without fear!
