5-0 out of 5 stars More POWER!!
For those of you who love more power, this software is for you! The older versions required you to do special things in order to get options like inserting a shockwave file to work. Now all you have to do is plug a knowledge icon into your string and WALLA! You just made the most of two of the leading power programs around. Authorware hit the bullseye with this software. Try it, you'll like it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good - I think??
I'm very new to web design - still learning HTML - but I've worked with "Fast Site" for about an hour. I just checked it out
but didn't read the instructions and am not familiar with icons on any of these programs. Considering my lack of knowledge, and not refering to the "Help" section I was impressed. It came with my computer so I don't know the cost. It has a wide selection of templates or backgrounds with buttons. I looked at every one of them and they all look handpicked. I was waiting for the 'duds' but there were non. Very eye-pleasing and lots of other features I have not tried yet. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Internet offers unprecedented publishing possibilities, allowing anyone with a few hundred bucks and some spare time to bypass the middleman and reach readers, viewers, listeners, and buyers directly. If you want to tap into the power of Web publishing without staying up nights learning HTML, try Microsoft FrontPage 2000.

With its intuitive interface (especially if you've already done time with other Microsoft applications), you can soon be creating hyper-linked pages to your heart's content. Formatting, inserting graphics or sounds, and keeping track of all your pages is push-button simple--experiment all you want, and retreat when necessary (some color schemes can induce nausea). The package also allows easy use of ActiveX controls, plug-ins, and Java applets--as well as more traditional scripting features--to snazz up your site for the higher-bandwidth viewer.

The integration between Office software, new with the 2000 edition, means you can easily publish information stored in an Access database or Excel spreadsheet without suffering through the nightmare of cutting, pasting, and reformatting. Whether you want to sell Beanie Babies or find new readers for your poetry, Microsoft FrontPage 2000 will help you present yourself in the best possible light. --Rob Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Web-authoring tool
Years ago we started out with studying complicated Html and writing all this strange code, going through all the tedious, confusing process. But we didn't want to be geeks, we just wanted to create excellent professional-looking Websites which could be created without too much of a hassle, and within the shortest period of time. And with FrontPage 2000 we were able to accomplish this task, as it's certainly the easiest Web-authoring tool out there and the results can look just as professional as most other complicated software tools. But with FP2000 you can accomplish the job in a very short period of time. Once you get used to FB2000 it's basically just click and paste and it's a lot of fun to create new Websites. If you use MS PhotoDraw and some other MS applications, your Website will fly like a rocket with unique features that make your Website sizzle. We have only good things to say about FP2000. To really utilize all the features FrontPage 2000 has to offer, you'll need to get a few easy-to-read books like FP2000 Fast & Easy by Coletta Witherspoon which is very helpful and some other books to teach you all the tricks and to give you a headstart with your Website project. But using FrontPage 2000 is a walk in the park compared to most other professional Web-creation software. We highly recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Is this the tool for you? Probably not.
FrontPage 2000 is, like much of Microsoft Office 2000, very little improvement over its predecessors.

I eat, breath and sleep Web design and site management. Since 1994 I have searched high and low for a Web page editor that would provide the same kind of control and ease-of-use that I had come to expect from page layout programs like Quark XPress and PageMaker. I tried them all: PageMill, NetObjects Fusion, AOLPress, and then FrontPage. While better than what had come before, FrontPage has always had one overwhelming shortcoming: it is inexorably linked to other Microsoft software, particularly the IIS Web server and Internet Explorer.

I am not a Microsoft-hater; I use IE5 everyday and think it to be a very good browser. And I used FP98 for a number of sites in the past. However, the many problems raised by other reviewers are legitimate

- HTML "Correction" - All versions of FP give the author access to the underlying HTML code, but not complete control over it. If there was only one right way to do something in HTML, that wouldn't be a problem, but with three or four ways to centre something, how can FP know which one is correct? An HTML editor should give the user complete control over all code. Pointing out errors is fine, but correcting them without asking is not.

- Server-side extensions - While FP offers some cool stuff like a guestbook, what isn't made clear to the novice user is that you will need to have FrontPage extensions installed on your hosting server in order for the gizmos to work. A lot of ISPs don't want to do this, which is understandable when CGI scripts can accomplish the same functions with less hassles.

- Bad HTML Code - Like most Web editors that have come before it, FP2K produces bloated HTML.

- IE-specific JavaScript and DHTML - The first time I tried to slam out a page in FP2K, this problem bit me. JavaScript is a problematic thing: different Web browsers interpret it differently. It is important to use code that will be understood equally well by IE and Netscape. With FP2K, forget it. Some JavaScript and DHTML effects are cross-browser, but many are not, and the interface doesn't tell us which is which.

FrontPage 2000 is not a professional Web designer's tool. For them, there is Macromedia Dreamweaver, and text editors like Allaire Homesite and HotMetal. And FP2K isn't a tool for people just starting out, because they won't know how limiting the software really is until it is too late. For them, I recommend a good free WYSIWYG editor such as Netscape Composer or Namo WebEditor, and some books on HTML.

The bottom line? Take a serious look around before purchasing FrontPage 2000.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY POWERFUL IF YOU KNOW HOW!!
A lot of people have blasted this software, saying that it's a kid's toy and you can't actually do anything with it. One person even said it's easier to code in html. All these people, in my opinon, have a hate complex about Microsoft, and refuse to actually dip into the program and see it's powers, that you won't find until you spend more than 5 looking at it [and giving off].
This program, in the right and experienced hands, is incredibly powerful. I am a professional who uses both Frontpage and Dreamweaver on occassion, and I must say I prefer Frontpage. I find it more usable, and quicker, and produces the same results with greater ease.
Frontpage is a great program, for beginners, intermediates, and professionals. Sadly, it isn't suitable for people who don't want to learn. Or people who like to bring down good programs because they are too arrogant to learn how to use them properly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great if you want to get a site up and running quickly
I was able to get a functional website up and running in an afternoon with Frontpage -- it is very intuitive and easy to use. It is even useful if you subsequently graduate to more complex software, like Dreamweaver, because you can establish the basic site with Frontpage and then edit the HTML with Dreamweaver to add further bells and whistles. No regrets at all, with this purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft FrontPage 2000
Microsoft FrontPage 2000 is a fantastic webpage creator/HTML editor. Before purchasing my copy of FrontPage 2000, I was using Adobe GoLive 5. What I especially liked about FrontPage 2000 was the ease of use. If you have ever used a Microsoft Office product before, you can learn FrontPage with relative ease. FrontPage brings templates (such as online forms) to you, which other products do not. There is a downside for FrontPage, and that is for some of the more advanced features the host server will need to have FrontPage extensions installed on it. You should check this with your host before purchasing. This is becoming less of a problem, however, because more and more hosts are installing these extensions. If you don't mind moving your site, you could always move it to a host with these extensions anyway. This is one product, I would highly recommend. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Macromedia's bundling of Dreamweaver 3 and Fireworks 3 is a tremendous value and a terrific pairing of applications. Fireworks--a versatile and powerful tool for building graphics for Web sites--and Dreamweaver--a tool of choice for building sites of all kinds--are both strong tools on their own. Bundled together, Macromedia has built a versatile and robust Web-development environment.

Creating good Web graphics is a skill unto itself, but Fireworks has many built-in tools for easing the pain. File size and color palette compatibility are the key issues, which Fireworks handles gracefully, but it can also create animated graphics as GIF or Flash files, as well as create rollovers and animated buttons.

But Fireworks is much more than a tool for creating Web graphics; it's an excellent graphics package with many of the features a good bitmap image editor possesses, such as gradients, fills, and organic-media strokes. But because Fireworks is vector-based, even strokes using a watercolor brush can be edited later into something like a crayon- or charcoal-style stroke. Fireworks exports files to Adobe Illustrator, JPG, BMP, and GIF formats, as well as to animated GIF or Flash formats.

Fireworks becomes a more powerful tool when allied with Dreamweaver, Macromedia's Web-page authoring tool. Dreamweaver is a full environment for building and managing Web sites, allowing the user to edit HTML pages graphically or through a text editor. In addition to all the usual table tools, font-editing tools, and HTML-creation tools, Dreamweaver supports the creation of Dynamic HTML and features a time line for editing such animation.

The Dreamweaver disc also includes the latest versions of Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, so Web pages can be tested for browser compatibility in either one. --Mike Caputo ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for those who own only DW or FW 2.0
As I have written elsewhere at Amazon, Dreamweaver and Fireworks are two of my tools of choice for making Web pages. That being said, this upgrade may not be for you.

- If you already own both Dreamweaver 2.0 and Fireworks 2.0, consider this upgrade carefully. While the 2.0 versions contained significant new functionalities over the 1.0 versions, 2.0 and 3.0 are quite similar. Look at the new features and determine for yourself whether the upgrades are really worth it.

- If you own only Fireworks or Dreamweaver 2.0, again, look at the feature set of both products. While a long-time fan of Adobe Photoshop, I had seen a demo of Fireworks at a trade show and was impressed enough to give it serious consideration, at least for specialized tasks such as creating complex Web page layouts and animations. As it turned out, I now use Fireworks for about 80% of my day-to-day Web graphics work.

- If you own a 1.0 version of Dreamweaver or (especially) Fireworks, then this is an excellent deal. The 3.0 versions of DW and FW contain significant new features that you will probably find are well worth the price. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Adobe's latest revision of its Web publishing application continues tomature into a powerful and sophisticated tool. Packed with new features, AdobeGoLive 5.0 offers enhanced source-code control to help Web teams edit andmaintain large sites; improved linking of Photoshop, Illustrator, and LiveMotionfiles; and a new interface that's designed to increase efficiency.

For designers who like to get under the hood, GoLive 5.0 now featuressimultaneous viewing of HTML source code and a WYSIWYG view of the page itself. Each window is editable, and changes take place immediately in both windows.GoLive also can import native Photoshop, Illustrator, and LiveMotion documents. When you double-click on an element in GoLive, the document is opened in theapplication that created it. After changes are made in the native applicationand the document is saved, the file is automatically updated in GoLive.

Two welcome new features are the History palette for going back in time andundoing a set of actions, and the Alignment palette for accurately lining up anddistributing rows and columns of elements.

If GoLive has a drawback, it's the number of palettes that sprawl across thescreen; a high-resolution monitor or dual-monitor setup goes a long way towardalleviating the crowd factor. Compatibility with Photoshop 6 and Illustrator 9is problematic, but presumably a patch or some new version of GoLive (version5.1?) is imminent; they are, after all, part of the same Adobe family.

Clearly, Adobe's GoLive 5.0 has some stiff competition (namely, Macromedia'sDreamweaver), but GoLive also has some virtues of its own. If you're alreadycomfortable with other Adobe applications, GoLive's learning curve shouldpresent only a small hurdle. The application is stable and deep, and has enoughfeatures to help any site designer build almost any kind of site. --MikeCaputo-- This review was written for theMacintosh Version of GoLive 5.0. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Give a little Get a lot!
I've been using Adobe Go Live for some time now and I have to say it's the best tool I've ever used for designing web sites. If you've used Adobe products before then you'll be right at home. I've tried Deamweaver but I just don't like it as much as Go Live. If you want your web site to look professional and really stand out then this product is for you. There are various books on the market that you can pick up which will simplify things a bit more then the manual that comes with the program. Read thereview on CNET I think it's really fair. Just read your manual and before you know it everything will fall in place.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea Without The Programming Talent to Pull It Off!
It has been 10 months since GoLive 5 was released with many bugs, oversights and memory/resource problems. Adobe has decided that, unlike Photoshop, Illustrator, LiveMotion and many of the other Adobe applications, GoLive 5, although the most unstable of all of the Adobe product line, does not warrant a dot release. Adobe must view this as a perfect application or they have no real control over the development team at the company that they purchased GoLive from.

Besides the fact that this application will crash often when run along other Adobe apps in a heavy production environment, there are also many annoying bugs and oversights that, while on they’re own maybe seem minor, together they make GoLive a hair pulling, nail biting, desk pounding nightmare to use in a production environment on a project deadline.

A few of the things you will have to deal with when using GoLive are:

Application Problems - Frequent crashes and display problems due to poor memory and resource usage. Be prepared to restart your system many times during the day and cleaning up the many Backup files that GoLive leaves behind when it crashes.

Color Palette Annoyances – Again, minor until you combine them with the other problems. The RGB palette does not lock into WebSafe colors. (unusual for a Web Development Tool). So, since you can’t rely on the sliders you have to type in the values. When you type in the first value and hit TAB to move onto the next RGB value, the cursor disappears. Where it goes, I have no idea. Hit the tab key again, and it comes back. You have to do this little double tap dance every time you enter color values by hand.

Template Problems – GoLive has Stationaries in place of templates. The problem is that the stationary files link things differently than the rest of the site, so in many cases the stationary file shows the broken link icon next to the file name in the Site Window. I spent hours trying to figure out what was broken, only to find out it was GoLive. Also if you accidentally open your Stationary File in Preview mode and save, it looses it’s links to everything on the page including images. You have to click over to Layout View, let it break and close it without saving. Then you reopen it again it layout view. Make sure you close it in layout view when your done or you will have the same problem next time.

Extended Character Problems – This will be the last one in my review because I could go on ALL DAY!!! Add a special character to your page by hitting ALT plus the number of the special character and the character appears. Switch to preview mode and go back to Layout and you will find a blue box with a question mark has replaced your special character. View it in a Browser and you will see something like &149; in your WebPage text. You have to go into source code and fix the character manually. Then GoLive and browsers will preview correctly, but GoLive will show a blank box in layout view. (There is a very long workaround to this problem,… very long!!!)

GoLive would be a great application if it worked. Unfortunately, it does not.No Thanks!

1-0 out of 5 stars Much Too Unstable for Serious Web Developers
GoLoive is a great idea, unfortunately this application is not stable enough and has way too many bugs for serious WebDevelopers. Try running it along side Photoshop and you will find your system slowly run out of resources and crash. It completely defeats the purpose of the tight integration between Adobe apps because you can't run more than two at a time with out taking down your system.

There are so many bugs in this app, it is surprising that it made it to retail. Adobe needs to improve it's software testing. It has also been over 9 months and Adobe has made no effort to release a patch for the numerous bugs, poor use of system resources and severe memory leaks.

If you are a Web Designer that spends 8-12 hours a day in front of your computer like me, expect to reboot at least 3 or 4 times through out the day. And, if you do purchase GoLive. SAVE WITH EVERY CHANGE YOU MAKE TO A PAGE OR YOU WILL BE SORRY!!!!!

We have installed this on over 20 graphics workstations, with plenty of RAM and resources, in eight different companies where they do serious Web development work. Not using it for 2 hours every few days on a personal page, serious 10-12 hours of continuos use work and it is a nightmare. We will not make that mistake again. ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Golive quirky but powerful
It's true that this program is somewhat limited by bugs that can limit its usability. Once these are learned, however, they can easily be worked around without adversely affecting productivity and with minimal affect on efficiency. Golive is a super tool, far ahead of comparable programs and should be considered regardless of several minor drawbacks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Think twice before upgrading!!!
If you have been using GoLive version 4 and are upgrading to version 5 because 4 was so unstable, watch out for version 5! You may first want to check the Adobe User to User Forum for GoLive on Adobe's WebSite and look at all of the problems people are having before purchasing this product. This could be a great Web Development tool, however, lack of stability and numerous bugs make this product the equivalent of driving a luxury sports car with no brakes. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great program, but make sure you need the new 3.0 features
Dreamweaver is the leading WYSIWYG Web editor, and with good reason. No other product comes close to its broad package of functionalities.

Dreamweaver was the first WYS editor to balance page formatting with page structure. WYS Web editors like FrontPage have a justifiably bad reputation: they tend to produce heavy, badly formed HTML, and often won't let you clean it up. Dreamweaver allows the page designer complete control over code in a fully WYS environment. The HTML you give Dreamweaver will be the HTML it uses. Yes, it comes with commands that will correct your HTML, but any such correction will be based on the criteria you choose, and can be enabled or disabled at your dissertation.

Site management is handled very well. Without having to add any server-side extensions as in FrontPage, one can check-in and check-out files, lock them, and do link checking. Site management is through the near-ubiquitous FTP protocol, using simple drop-and-drag to move files.

One of Dreamweaver's greatest strengths is it's extensibility. There are many plug-ins freely available, written in JavaScript and HTML, which bring additional functionality to the software. External editors can be specified for each file type, and included with Dreamweaver is Allaire HomeSite, the best HTML source editor available for Windows.

If you currently own Dreamweaver 2, take a close look at the feature set in 3 before upgrading. While 3 adds some useful features, you might not need them. Dreamweaver 3.0 does not make fundamental changes in the software.

One new feature I do use is the command that cleans up Word 2000 HTML. This saves substantial time when having to deal with the XML and CSS mess that is a Word 2000 HTML file. The Quick Tag Editor is also a nice middle step between the WYS interface and the full HTML Source Editor. I have also found 3.o to be somewhat more stable than 2.0. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars designed for child, too simple for adult
If you plan on doing any custom programming whatsoever to the templates, this is useless. If you are joe blow and don't really care what some homepage of yours looks like then you can use this and probably be very happy because you don't need to know HTML.However if you are trying to run a business of course you realize that you can't just expect some template to do exactly what you want. All of the templates are background .gifs, and HTML shows up over them, making the templates extremely difficult to work with and customize.

The WebEasy Deluxe (version 1.4) package contains two basic items.First the WebEasy Software, and second a Digital Camera, which easily downloads photos to the software package. The included "User Manual"documentation package is very poor and incomplete and requires the user torely on the software based "Help Screens" for detailed operatinginformation. However, the "Help Screen" software is NOT INCLUDEDwith the software package. It is necessary to download a"Utilities" package from the IXLA website which includes the"Help Screens".I successfully downloaded the"Utilities" package twice from the IXLA website (approx. 13+megs) and was unable to install the package each time because no executablefile (.exe) was included with the download, thus making it impossible toRUN and install the files into the WebEasy Software.I contacted"Level II Technical support for assistance" and am still waitingfor an E-mail reply.A supplimental "ClipArt" CD is included butcannot be accessed without the software contained in this"Utilities" package. The software portion of the package, which isused to create your own Web-Sites, is operational even without the"Utilities" package and is absolutely marvelous. It simplifiesthe process ofcreating and publishing a website. The second portion ofthis package includes a Digital Camera, the "IXLA SuperPro 640". The camera is easy to use, and easily connects to your computer via the USBor Serial Port (cables included). Once connected it is an easy matter todownload the photos to the software package and use them in the websiteyou're creating. However, the quality of the pictures was absolutelyterrible.Despite thereported 640x480 resolution (which is typicallyquite acceptable for website use), the pictures were grainy, lackedcontrast, and had poor color saturation. The pictures were of such poorquality as to make the camera a useless addition to the package.I calledIXLA about this problem, and they confirmed that they had many complaintsabout the SuperPro 640 camera, and were also disappointed with thephotographic quality of the images, as a result they were in the process oflooking for a replacement camera.Even IXLA considered the camera adefective element within their web development package.RECOMMENDATION:* If you don't mind a "hunt and peck" approach to learning how touse a software package, the WebEasy Software is GREAT.*The includedDocumentation is absolutely Terrible.*The Camera is inherently adefective product, and a total waste of money.*The file transfers fromthe IXLA website cannot be installed into the software package withoutcontacting technical support.*Technical support Level II is slow torespond. (I'm still waiting as I write this review.)*There is so muchwrong with this package, that it constitutes a "defective"product and as such I returned it for a refund. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

With company intranets, extranets, and the Internet blurringtogether, Web designers and developers will be even more grateful tohave the help of CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver in building customerinteraction, education, and help sites. The mind you save may well beyour own!

As an enhancement library for Dreamweaver 3.0, CourseBuilder simplifiesboth the visual application of interactive elements (sliders, customized submit buttons, images that swap out when a user clicks onthe right page location, or drag-and-drop functionality) and buildingthe stuff of grammar-school terror: multiple choice, true/false, checkall that apply, fill in the blank. As is the case when usingDreamweaver, it's helpful to have some knowledge of the coding behindthe scenes while working on your Web projects. However, CourseBuildercan save even the expert a large amount of time through itspreformatted sequences.

Functional improvements over the earlier version include the ability toedit an interaction you've just created, embed Authorware packages in aWeb page, and assign a separate layer to a CourseBuilder Interaction. The new ability to undo your mistakes, action by action, is a greatblessing; in a Web-authoring tool rich with buttons and menus, it wasgood to see a few subtle enhancements to the interface for clarity ofuse.

For those who want to get fancy with databases and server-side scripts,CourseBuilder can accommodate sending data through HTML, ASP, and ColdFusion tags. If your Web server is running computer-managed instructionsoftware (CMI), such as Lotus Pathware 3.02 or higher, CourseBuilderalso has a feature called Knowledge Track, enabling your interaction tocommunicate its data back to the CMI server. All in all, CourseBuilderis a strong enhancement to the rich Dreamweaver environment. --BetsyAoki ... Read more

Some folks pour Web code from their soul using nothing more than asimple text editor. Others avoid code altogether by building pages in a WYSIWYGeditor's visual interface. Whatever one's preferences, Macromedia's Dreamweaver4 delivers a powerful collection of features for building and maintaining eventhe most complex sites.

Since its initial launch, Dreamweaver has charmed Web developers with aneasy-to-use yet versatile editing environment. Boasting an impressive collection ofresources for both hand coders and visual layout designers, complex code iscleanly served up via a powerful visual layout editor or a text editor thatinspects source code. In-depth features that create forms, Flash files, frames, cascading style sheets, Java, and ActiveX files are perfectly integrated intothe application. For professional Web development crews, a multiuserenvironment efficiently manages the fast-paced flow of page content updates. Addan ever-growing Web community offering hundreds of extensions that automate andsimplify the development process, and it's easy to see why Dreamweaver is afavorite Web-authoring tool.

Dreamweaver 4 offers a fresh set of features, upgrades, and improvements.Already a great visual editor, Dreamweaver 4 pumps up its hand-codingcapabilities with a new Code View feature--a text editor with such customizablefeatures as live syntax coloring, tag balancing, and auto indenting. In SplitView, the Code and Design views display simultaneously, providing the best ofboth worlds for novice and pro coders alike. A Code Reference feature provides athorough guide to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Graphic designers will enjoyDreamweaver 4's seamless integration with other Macromedia products, such asFireworks and Flash. Current users might want to consider taking a close look at Macromedia'sDreamweaver 4 Web site to ensure that the collection of new features warrantsan upgrade this time around. New users, especially Web-building novices, mayfind the initial learning curve a bit steep, though frequent visits to the helpfiles are well worth the enormous power this program yields. --EricTwelker ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply THE best web dev combination
DreamWeaver Rocks. Fireworks Rocks. Together they make for a spectacular web design/development combination.

Dreamweaver is packed with features for the beginner through advanced web developer; it's easy and intuitive to use. It may take you a while to learn all the capabilities, but with each successive feature you discover and master, the development process becomes easier and faster.

Fireworks is the best in class web graphics software. It integrates very well with DreamWeaver. Creating animated GIFs is a snap, as is image optimization (file compression), image map creation, and exploring full tables (HTML and all!) for use in DreamWeaver.

You simply cannot go wrong with this package. Photoshop still has its place, but if you focus exclusively on the web and don't need to do exquisite image editing this bundle is all you need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome
I've been doing web development since 1996 and, to be honest, I fought tooth and nail against giving up Windows Notepad as my web development tool of choice. Microsoft FrontPage really ruined web development software for me and I pretty much vowed to avoid such applications in the future. Fortunately, my boss insisted that I use Dreamweaver and even sent me off to classes to learn the nuts and bolts. And now I'm hooked.

Dreamweaver is simply awesome and I can't imagine ever going back. Whether your a novice or professional, you'll come to love Dreamweaver's simple interface and ability to tackle otherwise tedious tasks -- such as Cascading Style Sheets, tables, layers -- with ease. Adding Flash, Shockwave or Java is as simple as it can possibly be. I took classes on Dreamweaver, but only because my boss insisted. The software is pretty easy to learn, though those with web development experience will have a fuller understanding (and respect) for the capabilities of the product.

The single most powerful part of Dreamweaver is the use of templates, which allow you to use the same look and feel across multiple pages and have all those pages updated when you make changes to the template. This alone will save you hours!

Another great thing about Dreamweaver is that creates clean HTML. This is something that any developer who has ever had to edit the HTML directly will respect -- especially if you've ever tried to make sense of FrontPage HTML nonsense.

Finally, the FTP application in Dreamweaver is outstanding. It keeps track of every page, graphic, link, etc. in your site and any change to any of them is cascaded through the entire site -- automatically updating links where necessary. With a simple click of a button your site is uploaded to your webserver.

There are so many features I haven't covered, but with the little I have this product is worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stupidly Discontinued!
Get Macromedia Dreamweaver 4. They have turned this once great web design package into a hybrid cross of something that looks like Netscape/Flash and called it Dreamweaver MX 2004.

I used Dreamweaver MX 2004 for a month, uninstalled it and went back to Dreamweaver 4. It really is that terrible and the work space is terribly cluttered making it very hard to work within.

Bottom Line -- Get Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 instead if you can find it. Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 is a very good web design package that knocks Dreamweaver MX 2004 for ten. You will simply hate Dreamweaver MX 2004 when you install it on your system. I nearly barfed after a month of using that *new* completely hostile and non-user friendly piece of unstable and slow excuse for a web design software program.

Get this instead ... if you can find it...

5-0 out of 5 stars Review for Dreamweaver 5
-This review is for Dreamweaver 5- I absolutely love this software. I had Adobe Go Live but I never seemed to take to it like I did with Dreamweaver. Once it was installed within a day, I had made several webpages. As I continued to use it I learned more and more intuitively without needing much guidance from the manual. As a user you can create your webpages visually or in code mode, this makes it a great option for anyone no matter what your skill - it can be adjusted to suit your needs. You can learn and develop your webpage skills as much or as little as you like. You do not need to be intimidated by it's high price. You can learn it and the cost is well worth the output. ...
I don't have to look for anything else, I have hit paydirt with this program! If you are using Front Page or any other visual interface for ease, you know that you are trapped into a forced format, get this program and you will understand the freedom of control without fear!
