5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect start into the music business
I was very impressed with data becker`s Music Center and bought Dance Factory out of curiosity. Although both are music production programs, they're completely diffenten. While Music Center is aimed at a professional(or wannabe professional) musician, Dance Factory is perfect for theabsolute dummy in making music. It's track based which means that you haveup to 16 Stereo-Tracks where you can put bass-, drums-, vocal-samples (theprogram comes with over 3000 preproduced) and mix them. It's fairly easy tounderstand and work with.

The fun part are the additional programs, thatcan be used in Dance Factory: A remix tool that takes all the samples thatyou currently use in your song and randomly mixes them together withimpresseive results, a wave-editor and a vocal-recording studio. If youwant to produce your own music and don't want to rely on the 3000soundsamples there are tools like BDM 2 (can someone explain to me why it'sNo. 2 ? ) that lets you create new drum, bass and melodic samples fromthe scratch - again very easy to use with very impressive results - and a"Melody Maker" where you can play on your computer keybord andrecord that.

A great feature is the DB 303, which is an analoguesyntheziser that produces very unique soundpatterns.

Again, it's not forthe professionals and I doubt that you will get a record contract with whatyou've produced on DF, but it opens the field of music making to everyonewith fast and impressive results. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Agonizing for first-time users . . .
I have been pulling my hair out for the past several days, after installing this program. My husbank and I are first-time home studio/computer recording and song writing, after many years of using acutal mixing boards. This program has been REALLY difficult to figure out. There's no tech help in the U.S.(you have to call an international number ), and the manual reads like "Greek". The aggrivation of trying to trouble shoot has cut drastically into our creativity. This has NOT been fun!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not an easy to use item
Installation went mostly smooth and I was able to start multi-tracking in about two hours after I got the package.
The user's manual in on the disk and I found it to be a pain in the rear to find the information I needed.
The midi studio could be made alot more user freindly.
That being said, at this price I can't complain one little bit. I am an amature song writer who has a need for multitracking and midi integration. I have to have a little more than Cakewalk offers but Cubase VST is over kill.
For only 20something includung shipping, this is a really good buy and would probably have been worth three times as much.

4-0 out of 5 stars HAVE PATIENCE
This Program is excellent for the audio studio professional, but not very practical for the first time studio user. I't contains virtual dynamic studio instuments that seem state of the art. An excellent tool for the aspireing beat-maker or taylored musician, but if your a first timer like myself, you have to have lots of patience..
Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars magix...magic, actually!
during the last ten years i have suffered thru the evolution of computer music creation from the heights of atari 1040ST sequencers...cubasis...cakewalk...and now Music Studio Gen6...it is well worth the wait!!
installs soooo quick, is extremely intuitive, and the manual is only surpassed by the even handier on-screen help file.
the screens are adaptable as are the key commands...very, very user-friendly!
anyway, must get back to it...is there any better recommendation that you need-----try it, you'll like it! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Here's an affordable home mixing suite that has the capacity to mix orremix music and video. That might sound too good to be true. Our firstimpression was that a huge amount of memory was required just to power thesophisticated-looking interface. But, after a few minutes of playful fun, thefull potential of playR deLuxe unfolds, and it isn't disappointing.

playR deLuxe comes with a varied selection of ready-made audio and visual files. You can load your own files in most formats (MP3, WAV, AVI, etc.) or mix themwith all or some of the available demo pieces. Of note are the quality of theaudio in perfect real time and the clarity of the visuals in sync with theaudio. The main screen is presented as a virtual pair of CD players, completewith EQ, effects, and smooth crossfader. There is no clunky delay, and the slidecontrols can cut in and out when you actually want, without missing a virtualbeat. Both media can be automated with a variety of different filters andpsychedelic swoops, while you concentrate on creating your perfect playlist asDJ, VJ, or both.

There is good flexibility here. You can create suitable audio samples for use inthe supplied music editor. It works much the same as any other WAV editor, whichmakes it simple to record favorite pieces of audio and mix them with others insequence or simultaneously, while you choose a visual backdrop for yoursoundtrack. While this is by no means a professional tool, it does provide thesame addictive thrill as most virtual hardware in that being the DJ for just ashort while makes for hours of fun. --David Trueman ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Wikky...Wikky...Blech!
All I wanted to do was remix and create songs for my own personal enjoyment. Well, this didn't cut it. Not only is it SO VERY NOT USER FRIENDLY, (You'll have to read the manual three times over) but it, often freezes up, and takes alot of memory (and you still have to keep the CD-rom in the drive when you start it.) It comes with two discs, I didn't even get to the second one. After spending a good amount of time remixing one of my favorite tunes, I found that I was unable to save the mix in any kind of useful format. Can't exchange the tune, and can't burn it to a CD. I often thought how much easier it would be to have a double casette deck. It was a thrifty purchase, but I guess you get what you pay for.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
Folks !!! You can record your mix but can't save them in a useful format. Forget about burning your own CDs, this won't cut it. Besides it uses humonguous amount of resources and is very unstable as a result. I would not recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Way to Personalize Your Music!
I'm sure that most people have seen the ads on tv for this program and wondered is it good or not,I say yes. Most of the remixes that you hear are just plain bad and though it is a little hard to use, with a little practice you can make awsome music that is truly yours! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
What an incredible value!

I was looking for easy to use products (I figured I would have to buy two products!) that would let me edit my videos and photos -- finding one package that lets me edit my videos and photos, plus rip music, burn photo and video CDs, and create CD labels is outstanding!

I hadn't even considered how quickly my photos and videos would fill up my hard drive -- being able to burn them to CD is a great way to archive and save hard drive space!

I'm also having a great time ripping and organizing my music, then creating music CDs -- something I hadn't even considered before!

All in all, this product gave me all the features I was looking for, plus much, much more!

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the best i say ...
Ok well first i wasnt to sure about this program then when i figured out how to use it it was th best. Well anyways i hope you buy this product exspecially for converting wma to mp3 or just make your files smaller. It also works good for picture editing and all that other stuff. I like this product but some people dont oh well thanks for reading and ttyl.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this product
I bought this because it was inexpensive and I don't need much for my purposes of video editing. this product, however, is horrible. It can't even meet my basis needs. I get eror messages constantly and it crashes every time I use it. This is no exageration. I have never actually exited out of the program because it always crashes on it's own. It doesn't work well with XP (which is never really mentioned anywhere). The help (both in the help menu and online) is not very helpful. No user manual was included. It was just a very bad product. Check out their online help site and you will see an abundance of negative feedback (I didn't see this until after I purchased the product and was going there to get help). I could go on for even longer about it but I won't. I don't know what else is out there, but there has to be something better than this. Even if it costs a little more it would be worth it!!

1-0 out of 5 stars OH MY GOSH......
This product stinks! I bought it to cut the weeds in my front yard...but all it does is chop carrots and some meat products. The sulution to my problem was to buy the $2,500 PhotoShop editor, it worked much better.

Really this is a GREAT product. And its well worth the [money] i spent on it.

1-0 out of 5 stars What A Waste
I bought this mostly because of the video editing section of the product... I got all excited and when i installed it, I realized there is no way to hook up my video camera to the computer. The product claims to be able to put your old home made movies on to a CD. Unless u have a video camera that has a USB port(mine doesnt), or you go out and buy one of those expensive A/V ports for ur computer, youve wasted your money. The music editing portion doesnt work with my computer because i have Internet explorer ver. 6 and i have to un-install it and download another version. I intend on taking this "video editor" back. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best - but not so simple...
Finale and I go back a long, long way. How long? Let's just say that after working with several other music sequencing and notation programs I got the opportunity to try it out at a friend's studio. It was the mid-80's, Reagan was President and I think the version was 2.2 or 2.3. Later on it was the 90's and Finale 2.6.3. Now Coda doesn't go by version numbers anymore but by date; apparently its marketing department's objective is to have users pay the upgrade price every year. Sometimes it's not worth it to upgrade; sometimes it is. Depends on how critical your music work is to your livelihood and, more importantly, how well Finale meshes with your MIDI gear, computer setup and operating system.

Doing most music writing in Finale is simple. There's a setup Wizard which asks about the piece's title, composer, lyricist, page layout, instruments/vocals, etc. Once you get to the blank page itself there's several ways to get the notes onto it. There's Simple Entry (click them in with your mouse, or use Finale's keyboard commands). If you have a musical instrument connected to your computer via a MIDI connection you can use Speedy Entry (hit the note, press a number for the rhythm, the note pops up on the screen). The improvisational and the adventurous can try the Transcription tool; although, like most things in Finale, you have to go through a lot of set-up dialogs to get it to work just right. Same for importing a MIDI file.

Needless to say there's a lot to do with the notes once they have been put in. Lyrics, articulations, dynamics, tempo, and other music expressions can also be easily inserted. There's Mass Mover, which is sort of a "page layout" tool for notes and measures. A Resize Tool if you want a reduced score or extra-large music print. And the Staff Tool has a similar function related to, you guessed it, staff spacing and such. And the Page Layout tool (although you had better check your Mac's "Page Setup" before you try to print, just to make sure it matches your piece's page settings in Finale). In fact, Finale has so many tools that sometimes it's hard to keep them all straight. Unlike other notation programs, you can't just grab a note or a page number or a title onscreen and move it. Noooo-- you HAVE to go to a TOOL first! (Sorry to rant, but this is my main disagreement with Finale's user interface.) As a result, a lot of time in this program is spent switching between tools. And compared to other notation software, which have maybe four or five "palettes" with note/rest values, accidentals, word/lyrics input, etc., laid out on the screen, Finale offers a grand total of 30 different tools! There's even a "Special Tools" tool, for custom note tweaking. And there are also Metatools (Finale-speak for keyboard macros) and various Plug-Ins, to add to the complexity.

Don't get me wrong. I love working with Finale. It suits my notational needs about 99% of the time. And the music looks great streaming out of my laser printer. But sometimes it's a love/hate relationship. Let me explain.

Recently I received an email from a conductor. I had notated a vocal/orchestral score for him some years back, and now he wanted a piano reduction for his choirmaster and accompanist. He though he had done one but couldn't find it anywhere. Where was the score? Not on my Mac G3 (my present computer). Nor on the Mac PPC that I used before that. I finally found it, tucked away on my old Mac SE/30. Finale 2002, bless its digital heart, imported that huge Finale 2.6.3 file intact, with only a few very minor glitches.

Now for the piano reduction. "Aha, there's a Piano Reduction plug-in," I thought, gleefully clicking a couple of measures, only to find that doing that mashed notes and rhythms together into an unrecognizable blob. Good thing I didn't try it on the entire score! After some fumbling around I did find the proper tool (Implode Music) and, yes, I did have to go hunt down its Quantization settings, which I think were buried somewhere in the depths of the Transcription Tool. One does this a LOT in Finale: It seems that, while the simplest music tasks are easy, navigating through multiple menus and endless dialog boxes is necessary to get anything important done. It's like going through your crazy old uncle's dusty, disorganized toolshed to find a Phillips screwdriver.

I don't blame Finale for the lousy plug-in. I do fault it for its lack of a decent user interface. Yes, I know it has been getting better in that department; thanks to the efforts of its programmers Finale is a lot more user-friendly than it used to be. And they have added a PDF manual, online and "Quick" help, which is a bit confusing but a definite step up from the famously unhelpful Index to the earlier versions' three-volume hardcopy manual. But at the same time this accumulation of libraries, plug-ins, video help and other "feature creep" has resulted in this fine notation program morphing into a big, bloated memory hog.

Another issue is the lack of support for Mac OS X. According to their tech department, Finale 2003 will run in OS X - but only in "Classic" mode, which is like OS 9. In fact, the tech sheet recommends booting your computer in OS 9 in order to get optimal MIDI performance. That's a big reason I haven't upgraded to Finale 2003 yet.... ... Read more

This product is not for someone starting out. It assumes a complex understanding of mixing and recording. Without this knowledge, the program is next to useless. The user's manual is anything but helpful. Online support is nonexistent, no reply to e-mail in two weeks. Hopefully someday after months of trial and error, I will be able to mix something. 2-0 out of 5 stars not bad for the price..
I purchased this product to record and encode music from a large collection of LPs I have. The product is not the easiest to use, and it took me several hours of "messing around" to finally get a good process for recording, cleaning up and converting to mp3. I think the audio editor is not bad, but the controls for cleaning up hisses/pops/hums etc. that typically come from LPs is lacking. I also discovered that there is another product from this company called "audio cleaning lab" that contains the additional cleanup features I was looking for and does a much better job overall with the record-edit-convert to mp3 process than this product. Bottom line, for 30 bucks it isn't too bad and it gets the job done after spending some time with it. But if you are intending to record LPs to digital format and clean them up, I think the audio cleanup lab may be a better fit.

And even then I wouldn't recommend it. I found this software simple and unhelpful. There is no great organization capability and the program seems to waste a lot of disk space needlessly. I origianlly worked with Sonicstage (Sony) which I thought was great. Unfortunately Sonicstage copyright protects everything and it is therefore impossible to transfer music from one computer to the next. I bought mp3maker to solve this problem. It turned out to be a great irritation.

2-0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE
The only thing to recommend this software is the somewhat intuitive interface. Otherwise, this is the worst ripper I have ever worked with. Almost every track I ripped, both on my laptop and home PC have beeps, pops and annoyances. Almost nothing is listenable.

It is also one of the slowest I have used, and some CDs, for no reason I could find, just wouldn't rip. It would find the songs and then start to rip and just suddenly start moving at a pace where it would have taken about 8 hours to rip one album.

Then, when I went to burn a music CD...a simple project, right?...it NEVER completed the burn. Always an error about halfway through, so I ended up with a handful of half complete CDs before I finally just gave up.
