    1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work
This is my first experiance with any Roxio product.I bought it without doing research but on the recommendation of the store manager. He said that Roxio makes wonderful products.

Are you kidding me!The menus are combersome and confusing. The whole program disappears after clicking on a menu option only to reappear a full minute later.

I did like the pan and animated menu features and was able to create one movie.I then started on a second movie using some of the more advanced features but this will not run smoothly. The preview window doesn't synchronize with the timeline indicator. The video preview occasionally is not shown and the audio is choppy and locks into a loop.

This is unusable.A total waste of money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Stay away - not worth half price.
I have owned and updated this product since before it was bought by Roxio. Now it has been bought out by Sonic. The newest version 7.5 of the product has become bloated and useless, with a built in Napster client as the core feature. Prior version user upgrade prices are handled unethically - The first email they sent me said offered upgrade for $99.99 no exceptions for prior customers (less than a week after I upgraded to version 7.0 which also sent me through the roof - an upgrade that recent should be free), then eventually they sent email offering a lower price but with a 48 hour window, and after about a month I got an email with a half-wise decent upgrade price offer of $29.99, which I took. They have over-hyped version 7.5, which I have found to be mostly useless and frustrating. I spent all weekend trying to burn some DVD movies, only to have half of them ruined because the some features of the product don't work they way they say they do. Very disappointed - I won't buy their next product and I'm looking for something better instead. They're marketing this peice of junk like it's the best product around, and I feel like I've been taken...

1-0 out of 5 stars cant get it to burn a DVD
I'm sorry but the software seems to have a lot of nice features but I cant get it to do something as simple as burn a DVD.I have tried multiple other programs and never come across this problem before. After a week with the help desk it was...no help.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of trash.Waste of money & time - BEWARE!
I'm tired of waiting for software that actually works!OK, if Icould rate this a negative number I would.Make sure and back up your configuration and drivers before installing this piece of trash. It has destroyed the drivers on both of my computers (laptop and home).Neither computer will create a CD.It doesn't convert music types (and there is downloadable shareware that does this).Lots of fancy screens, lots of fancy words in their product description.Roxio has joined the ranks of so many other PC software creators (marketing, marketing, marketing).DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE.Matter of fact, send me the $100, you'll be better off!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Pay $100 to downgrade your music mixing program?!
I have been using the EZCD, now Roxio line of media software to make music mixes for years, since version 2.0.With heavy competition from numerous new music players, I stuck with Roxio and updated from version 6.0 to 7.5, eager to check out and use the promised benefits.Instead I found that 7.5 is actually a major DOWNGRADE of music mixing features and functionality. It's hard to believe, but true. Here are some of the downgrades:
    1. 7.5 doesn't list and sort songs by artist or title at all!You have to go by the Windows file name!
    2. 7.5 worsens the crossfading control feature, the major benefit of this program over other music mixing programs.7.5 can only apply crossfade or gap settings by whole seconds, rather than fractions as in 6.0, so you can't be as precise with the segues. Also, 7.5 doesn't allow control over the portion of the track you listen to when composing the crossfade, as 6.0 did.
    3. 7.5 eliminates the "Audio Central" component of the 6.0 version and uses the old Creator Classic view, with less features.
    4. 7.5 won't recognize your mixes (playlists) from 6.0.
    5. 7.5 won't recognize and list your song titles and artist names from 6.0.
    6. 7.5 has a terrible volume normalizing program that creates big quick blasts of higher or lower volume before finding the normalized level. This feature is applied only when burning, not when mixing, so you can't audition it until it's too late.Volume normalizing is just useless.
    7. With 6.0, you could place as many tracks as you wanted into a playlist, then edit down from that to create a mix that would fit on a CD.With 7.5 you are limited to about 100 minutes of material to draw from.

Roxio actually lies about these features in their online "comparison" charts, stating that features which are not functional on 6.0 are present on 7.5, when in fact the opposite is true. This is deceptive advertising.

I have written to Roxio to get help on any or all of this, and I have received no response whatsoever.

If you've been using Roxio to make music mixes, it's time to look elsewhere. If you haven't been, don't start now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Product for Digital Video and Digital Camera Users
Easy Media Creator 7 integrates several full-featured applications together to create a software suite with a consistent user experience. In no time, I was using it and creating projects with it. I use Creator Classic all the time to burn data and music to CD and DVD and appreciate the automated backup feature. Even though I use those features all the time, I really bought Media Creator 7 for all the great digital media creation tools.

Photosuite is a wonderful photo-editing product. Since I am a casual point and shoot digital photographer, I use the autofix option all the time to clean up my pictures, plus of course the red eye removal tool and the clone tool (to remove the date/time stamp I forgot to turn off in some of my pictures). I use VideoWave to transfer/capture my video to my PC, and then edit it down to remove unwanted video clips. I also use it to add text using different fonts, styles and effects, plus add transitions between clips, and background sound tracks. When complete, I then send the output to DVDBuilder for authoring to DVD.

I could go on and on how I use it, but the bottom line, this product is outstanding. It is loaded with excellent features and is a must have product for transforming your digital content to marvelous DVD movies or slide shows.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use, Great Features and for the Price it's a Bargain
Easy Media Creator 7 offers an easy to learn and understand interface that enables you to quickly use any of the applications that make up this integrated software suite. My daughter just graduated from high school and this weekend I created a video comprised of digital photos and video clips, select music, transitions, titles, etc. all blended together of all the events this past month leading up to graduation. I am so proud of my daughter but also have great pride and sense of accomplishment in what I just did by creating a great looking video that I burned to DVD.

Roxio provides many materials to help you find all the answers, such as how-to video tutorials, and PDF user guides. The Roxio web site knowledgebase also helps you find answers to any questions, and if you still need help, I found their tech support email responses were quick, only taking 1-2 days to get answers.

I recommend this product for people at all levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars CD and DVD Media Creation Just Got Easy
Creator 7 has so many great features and capabilities that I suggest you do as I did and read the many pro reviews that thoroughly put the program through its paces. For me, my favorite and most frequently used component is storyboard, which enabled me to combine digital photos, video clips, and songs into a slideshow. It has creative features that include the ability to add transitions, titles, and a narration track. Then using the DVDbuilder component, I can create VCDs or DVDs to master my slideshow creation to disc. Overall, this is a great product for anyone dabbling or serious about working with digital media.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommend it to everyone
Installed fine on my XP system, although it was a slow process. Nice interface and the tutorials and help files made it easy to learn. Use Creator classic, Photosuite Videowave and DVDbuilder all the time and everything has worked flawlessly. Haven't used all the other features yet, but its nice to know they're there when needed. What a deal - all these features for the low cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars works great after upgrade
had problems out of box ( mostly with DVD-r burning ) but after a 53MB download from website it's working great. Very easy to use compaired to others I've tried (U-lead, Movie maker). Tutorials are weak, more of an overview of what you can do than a how to, but help files are good. Great product for the money! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars this program did exactly what it said it would do.
i had a unfortunate computer failure that lost me a good bit of my itunes library.i did not realize that you CANNOT ON A MAC (maybe on a PC) MOVE MUSIC FROM YOUR IPOD TO YOUR COMPUTER. i lost a good deal of purchased music, which the itunes store will not restore to you, even though they have the records of purchases, and so do i.i had backed up, but not recently enough. So i thought all was lost.

Not so!this program, simplistic as it is, did EXACTLY what they said it would do.i could move any or all songs from my ipod back into itunes.well, it isn't quite that easy, but after having gone through several duplicate rescued libraries of thousands of songs, it seemed like a snap.It also saves your ipod library, and can clean it up.

So if you have for whatever reason lost your library, and it is on your ipod, you can restore. And please BACK UP YOUR LIBRARY WEEKLY.Or else................

4-0 out of 5 stars Tunes out of your iPod
Richard, you did not use or buy this product.iTunes is for putting songs on the ippod.Try finding a song on your iPod and moving it to another computer or finding missing songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Think It Does More Than ITunes
Looks like this lets you copy songs from your Ipod to your computer. Something Itunes doesn't do.

1-0 out of 5 stars What's This For?
Save your $20, Please... This thing does the same thing as iTunes. If you already have an iPod, it should have come with iTunes software. If it didn't, you can download it for free from apple.com. iTunes is built for your iPod,therefore it is it's best companion for music transfering. If iTunes is too hard for you to use, then you don't know how to use a computer because iTunes automatically updates your iPod for you without you having to do anything. SAVE YOUR MONEY! PLEASE!!!
I know I sound mad, but I'm just a consumer advisor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, well-rounded product
MusicMatch Jukebox 7.0 is an excellent product. It has made vast improvements over the earlier versions in interface and abilities, like ripping and cd burning. It is very easy to use and organize, and has a smooth and customizable interface. The cd burning extension included is very seamless and can be used for data, mp3, and music cds; I use MMJB for ALL of my cd burning, after mediocre experiences with EasyCD and Nero Burning ROM. However, if you need a digital music editor, this is not one, so do not buy it for editing purposes. It maintains a small window, (which is, of course, expandable for seeing larger portions of the playlist) while still having great functionality. The playlist and control bars can be resized or even detached and moved around the screen to your liking. I haven't used the radio feature very much, and so have no comments on it, but if you need an inexpensive, easy to use cd burning program and a great music player, you should definitely buy MMJB.

4-0 out of 5 stars Must Be The MusicMatch
If I had to sum up this software in one word it would be - "Wow". From the minute I purchased it I was completely blown away! If you love technology and music as much as I do, then this is the software for you. You can convert your own music collection into MP3 files with the great of ease. To make things a little easier for yourself I would suggest that you sign on the Internet first to allow the computer to look up the name of the CD, artist, tracks, year, and cover art for your CD. When you place the CD into the CD drive you can review what songs you would like to place on your hard drive, check off the tracks (in the record mode), then covert. It does take practice on how to do this but once you get the swing of it becomes very easy. If your want to get advanced, you can also "tag" each track with additional information like mood, situation, tempo, etc. By breaking it down with such a great level of detail you can have better control of how you want to hear your music based on just a tempo, mood or whatever. Believe me when I say how wonderful it is to have the ability to listen to any kind of music at any given time without having to look for CDs anymore. I just go to my computer click on what songs I want to hear for that particular moment, and just relax. What completely won me over with this software is the fact that you can make CDs and covers effortlessly and quickly. My friends are very impressed with my finished CDs when I come to their homes with complication music for their parties and gatherings. They have a professional finish and wonderful flawless sounds from one track to the next. The magic of this software does not just stop at making music tracks from your CD collection. You can also create voice tracks by hooking up a mic to your computer, or you can hook up your stereo to make old records or tapes into MP3 files. I can go on and on, with what I have done with my MusicMatch but I am sure you get the point by now - just get it you will love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product... versatile and easy to use
I have been a MusicMatch user since version 4, so maybe I am one up on new users, but I find that this program is spectacular! A lot of people have written reviews stating that they can't play songs in order by track number... these people need to open their eyes! MusicMatch allows you to list many different aspects of the tagging information in your library listing (just double click on the library window to edit), among them are MP3 encoding bit rate (so you know what quality the MP3 is) and track number.
If you want to list your songs by track number, you can do it by simply clicking the arrow at the top of the column. If you want to list your MP3s by artist, each of the artist's albums, and by track order within each album, just click the sort arrow at the top of each column in THAT order! How simple is that?
This newest version has a lot of other wonderful features too, such as supper tagging and file renaming (to create standardized file names). It also continues to use MusicMatch's wonderful album-art-as-part-of the-tag feature! I love this! Everytime I listen to an MP3, the album art is displayed on-screen as I listen. This is especially fun when I rip MP3s from old 7" singles, and scan in the original covers! :)
MusicMatch is also fast and reliable: if the error-correction feature is enabled, it will notify you if it had trouble encoding something, which will allow you to verify the quality of THAT encode, without having to double check all of them.
I admit that it is a little big and boxy, but it CAN be minimized during playback, and there are a LOT of easy-to-download skins that are smaller and less boxy than the default skin (frankly, I like BLOOP, but I miss the Paisley skins from versions 4 and 5).
For less than 15 bucks, this product is REALLY fantastic... and if you purchase the lifetime upgrade key, you need never worry about not having the latest version! A+++++!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars don't get it!!! trust me...and read this
note: if i could give it negative stars i would have given a -5!
When i got it i thought it would be awesome. I realised the problem right away...
When you add tracks to your music library, the tracks are put into alphabetical order. I HATE this. There is no way around it. FOr example: the cd tommy by "the who" has to be played in a certain order for you to understand the story (it's a rock opera if you dind't know) in alphabetical order, it's all messed up. Musicmatch also looks ugly, and is very clunky. I am not a mac person, but i would say that itunes is FAR superior to musicmatch. save yourself the money and download itunes for free. It is SOOOOOOO much better. You'll agree with me if you see both. (trust me)

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst of 3 different CD-burning programs I've owned.
Despite the overall positive reviews you'll see here, BUYER BEWARE. This software is by far the least user-friendly and most cumbersome CD burning program I've owned. Eventually I had no problems learning how to rip and burn CDs, but it still requires too many steps and clicks to get to the action.

My complaints largely center around 2 issues: Burning data CDs and storing track lists. Burning data CDs is truely a pain in the arse using MusicMatch. Programs such as this should have simple drag-and-drop options. But if you're trying to update a data file already on the CD-R, it is not that easy -- it requires extra steps to manually delete the old versions of your data. I have many many data CD-Rs for both work and home, and burning/updating them was an extraordinarily burdensome process.

In regards to saving track lists, I'm an audiophile, and I prefer listening to stored tracks in their original track listing order. If you prefer this too, do not buy MusicMatch. It can only store tracks by name (alphabetically), and does not allow you to listen to the tracks in album track # order. This makes listening to classical, jazz, or any other instrumental album really undesirable. It also makes burning music CDs a pain, because you have to drag-and-drop each track in the desired order. This should be automatic! Freeware like Real Player even lets you store tracks in album listing order...Why not this? Ugh. ... Read more

    Amazon.com Review

Beginning with the release of Windows 95, Microsoft has made a habit of augmenting each new operating system with an add-on package of assorted enhancements and goodies. The latest such supplement to come to market is Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP, a collection of graphic and audio utilities, rudimentary games, screen savers, and desktop themes specifically designed for users of Microsoft's latest and most robust OS. But whereas the Windows 95 and Windows 98 Plus! editions blended several genuinely useful applications such as disk management tools and virus checkers with the usual stable of multimedia tweaks, Plus! for Windows XP offers more fluff than substance. Although newbies will undoubtedly find much of the collection quite compelling, veteran users may not be so impressed.

The program is divided into four distinct categories--Digital Media, Games, Screen Savers, and Themes--each of which may be accessed through a single, convenient graphical interface. Of these, the Digital Media component is clearly the deepest and most interesting. Its handy utilities include an MP3 audio converter for transforming disk-hogging WAV and MP3 files into space-efficient WMA format, a music playlist organizer known simply as Personal DJ, an exceedingly capable CD label maker, 20-plus Media Player skins, and three animated Media Player visualizations (including one culled from the Xbox game Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee).

Music and video fans in particular will immediately gravitate to the Voice Command for Windows Media Player module, which allows users to operate most Media Player functions by issuing verbal commands into their computer microphone. Even when faced with garbled enunciation and loud background music, Voice Command faithfully recognizes commands such as "Volume Up" and "Pause." Sadly, Microsoft's seemingly innovative Speaker Enhancement tool is ultimately little more than a glorified tone control that often hinders rather than improves the sound of your speakers.

Of the three games included in the package, the most intriguing is Russian Square, a deceptively addictive puzzle affair that plays like a one-dimensional offspring of Tetris and Rubik's Cube. Far less involving are the arcade bowling knock-off HyperBowl and the three-dimensional Labyrinth, a virtual take on the real-life game that involves a tilting table, metal ball, and lots of ball-gobbling holes. Eight animated screen savers and four desktop themes complete the package, the most notable of which is the stunningly lifelike and absolutely gorgeous underwater screen saver called "Aquarium." Otherwise, the program's themes and screen savers are no better than those that can be downloaded free of charge from various Web sites.

With Plus! for Windows XP, Microsoft has assembled a multipronged mixture of useful and not-so-useful multimedia tools and lighthearted amenities into one easily accessible compilation. If you aren't the type to scout around the Internet for individual components and feel the need to spruce up your XP audio-video environment, it may be for you. --Gordon Goble ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "A" Plus!?... Well.........................
If your computer meets the minimum specs, yes even those in tiny print, then you will most likely enjoy the enhancements this adds to your computer. Missing that 16 MB video card, don't bother with Plus!.

Like screensavers? What about 3-D? How about trying 3-D Screensavers! Plus! pack will add these new screensavers onto your computer and let the fun begin as you watch fish swim in a realistic aquarium or a circus type scene play before your eyes...

If you're a gamer, the bowling game is GREAT... The only problem is that it is a light edition, so to unlock its full functionality you'll have to pay! The labyrinth game is great and quite difficult to do, will keep you playing for hours!

The themes are good if you use themes... Remember that space theme from ME? Its back in a revamped fashion! Also there are themes for an aquarium and some other interesting ones... Personally I don't like the themes!

The new enhancements to Media Player are OK, but are not really worth the difficulty of configuring. Do you really want to give commands to your computer with your voice? Catch a cold, and this functionality won't work anyway...

Overall this is an OK package, but not one that I would spend the money on. After buying this, I was sorry... I won't make the same mistake again!

2-0 out of 5 stars Non functional without downloads, Not worth the hassle
Just bought it not worth the hassle

Its not very functional without tonnes of MS downloads so dont buy it if you have a 56kb modem like me. I dont want to have to download a tonne of updates, I want functional out of the box.

Product Activation should not be on products this cheap, its a waste of my time. I have no problem with activation on Windows and Office because theyre high value products and at least you get to try them out before activating... This though is a hassle.

The digital music converion program only converts to WMA, I expect at least one alternative format such as WAV or MP3. Bad software in a pretty box.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great program
I don't really use most of the programs in this package...except Photo Story. Photo Story is incredible! I have done video CDs for my parents' wedding anniversary, seniors graduating from high school (we have two seniors in our private school and will use the stories at graduation), a teacher appreciation banquet, etc. Just hook your DVD player to a projector, and voila! You're ready to go. The ability to add music really makes the stories moving. My only complaint is that you are limited to one music track, so if the story is long, the song just repeats itself over and over. Hopefully, with the next upgrade, they'll add the ability to use more than one music track. That's the only improvement I see that it needs. Great for creating memories for your family and friends!

4-0 out of 5 stars Want more themes?
If you want lots of themes you can try TGT softs Style XP.
Style XP gave me lots of themes and can be found at http://www.tgtsoft.com/

2-0 out of 5 stars not really a must...
Although many of its stuff are pretty fun to use and creative, but after all, it is not really a "must" have item. and though its only 18 bucks, still seems a bit expensive for its actual usage. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe you can, maybe you can't
This product doesn't do what it says it does. I bought it to record internet radio, the box says you can record anything that is playing in the output. It didn't work, I emailed magix and they said my sound card needs to have this feature. But if your sound card has this feature, you wouldn't need mp3 maker.
    Anyway, so so program otherwise.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't do all that it says it does
I bought this program for one reason and one reason only: it was the only CD-burning program among the dozen or so I considered that claimed to be able to convert REAL files to .mp3s or .WAV files. After two hours at the computer and countless consultations of the manual, I re-checked the box to make sure I hadn't misread it. I hadn't - the box definitely lists REAL files among those the program can import and convert, and it also says it's compatible with all types of formats - but this clearly isn't really the case.

It does appear to work as well as any other program with respect to other formats and creating CDs from records and tapes, but the screen layout and the recording process are needlessly cumbersome, and there are a lot of bells and whistles that don't appear to improve the sound quality of the recordings much if at all. For a simpler and more user-friendly program, I recommend Cakewalk Pyro. (It isn't compatible with REAL files either, but it also doesn't claim otherwise.) The only good thing I have to say about Magix right now is that thanks to them, I now know Circuit City's return policy really is as good as their commercials say. It's nice to know some companies don't lie about their products or services.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great at first but errors later.....
when i baught it i was hoping it would organize all my mp3 files and it did but now it is giving me different types of errors and it isn't any better then my other mp3 software (jukebox 7.0) and i encourage you to think twice! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Elegant simplicity if you have a recent system
Requirements or rather reccomended systems are rather high but if you have a recommended system and the burner and reader are compatible this program is more than adequate for the beginner.
Although Nero is nice with all it's bells and whistles and control panels and options Mediaworks or just Pyro are miles ahead in terms of simplicity. My Mom has a copy as well as myself.

1-0 out of 5 stars Does not recognize CD burner on my HP media center
My wife purchased this product for me for Christmas and I must say at first it looked extremely easy to use. However it would not recognize I had a DVD RW drive in my HP media center PC when every other application I have has no problem using it. For a CD burner it is pretty useless if it does not even recognise your drive as a burner. Then both my CD drive and DVD drive disappeared from my system (Not physically of course). The registry entries for them became corrupted. I had to do a complete rebuld of my system and it took me about 8 hours of time to get it back to a working state with my previously loaded software. I have deleted all traces of it and am taking it right back to the store. ... Read more

    4-0 out of 5 stars Version 8.2
I've got Version 8.2 and have had none of the problems mentioned in previous reviews. I've tried all the big names (itunes, napster, realjukebox, windows media player) and this is my software of choice.

Faster rip & burn than the others makes it #1 with me!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Quirky: When it functions properly, it's decent.
The first MMJ version 7.5 functioned properly. MMJ suggested an upgrade to 8.0 with a fee ($19) and an upgrade key. After the upgrade, MMJ bombed: MMJ Server problems, screen freezes, hangs and plenty of reboots. Because I was able to burn 36 songs, I uninstalled MMJ (the initial downloaded version) and purchased the boxed version for an additional $30. I've downloaded more than 100 great classic songs (another $100) and frankly MMJ needs to modify their software. The boxed version MMJ, with ANOTHER upgrade to download, burned 4 cds and then crashed again. MMJ Tech support frankly wasn't helpful. Online message boards/forums state MMJ is prone to popups, registry corruption and spyware that interferes and/or corrupts MMJ. Jeez gents can't your programmers solve your software issues? MMJ 8.2 is a decent program when it functions. However, in its present form, it's a software crap shoot. I still use MMJ 8.2 plus but I run spyware/adware and registry correction software after 3 uses and each time we find spyware/adware and changes to the windows registry. Jeeez. MMJ fix the glitch; make more money. Satisfy customers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Depends on one's expectations
Unlike most of the others who took the time to review this product, I have to say that I found it to be everything I hoped it would be. I was in the process of thinning out my cd collection and was looking for a program that would allow me to turn all of the songs my one hit wonder cd's into MP3's and this software delivered exactly that. I like the way it organizes the music and can honestly say that it has done everything I asked of it. I think the difference between myself and the other reviewers is that I have only a marginally effective grasp of the inner workings of my computer. My expectations were naturally lower, and I have to call myself a satisfied customer.

1-0 out of 5 stars What kind of Music software is this ?
I bought the program about a week ago, and now know why one user described it(in a former review) "userunfriendly and Junk"
Not only caused it system-problems on my PC but it is also the most confusing and unreliable music program which i have ever worked with. I could only guess, why it got 5 Stars on a other review. But after reading the Review several times again and again, i realized, "who" probably wrote the 5 Star review.

1-0 out of 5 stars MusicMatch Does Not Deliver
MusicMatch Jukebox Deluxe 8 did not deliver as promised. The enclosed software did not display properly; though, a download of EarthLink's co-branded MusicMatch software fixed the interface problem. The promised three month trial of MusicMatch MX Gold using the User ID and Password supplied on the CD envelope resulted in nothing: no trial period, no upgrade to CD quality sound from MusicMatch Radio and no access to MusicMatch MX ArtistMatch. I had been pleased with the free MusicMatch Jukebox software, even with its limitations; I am very unsatisfied with the buggy software and false promises of the purchased software.
UPDATE: Worked with MusicMatch customer service to try to correct my issues. Although they were very pleasant, they were not able to figure out how to offer the three month trial period to MusicMatch MX Gold. ... Read more

    Amazon.com Review

Cakewalk's Pyro organizes and converts the digital music that flowsbetween the tech-lovin' audiophile's computer and his or her home stereo, portable MP3player, or preferred new-fangled audio device. It's not the first all-in-onesoftware product of its kind, but it does offer unique sound-processingenhancements and CD-creation tools--from burning to labeling--that may appeal tousers who wish to customize files with sound effects.

Getting started is a breeze: select media files from your hard drive or CD,click a button, and wait as the tracks convert into your desired format. Onceconverted, the tracks can be played through the integrated media player.Environmental Sound Processing effects optimize the MP3 and WMA audio output (CDaudio is unaffected). These effects sculpt the sound for listening viaheadphones, a desktop system's speakers, or a home stereo. Other settingssimulate a concert hall, stadium, and orchestra hall, among other environments, adding flavor to certain recordings. Customizable effects such as flange, chorus, delay/echo, and reverb are available as well, though theadvanced-controls interface may intimidate some. Home-recording enthusiasts will benefitmost from these effects (and hundreds of additional downloadable DirectXeffects), since the settings can be permanently affixed to sound files. Generalusers who simply want to turn their favorite CDs into MP3s will likely playaround with these effects a few times for entertainment value, then ignorethem.

Moving the tunes off your hard drive is, in theory, a snap: a few clicks sendyour files to a portable media player or onto a blank CD. However, both optionshave potential limitations. Only a few portable players--Creative Labs's andS2/Diamond's most popular brands--are compatible with Pyro. The CD-burningfunction supports a wider range of popular CD-R/CD-RW drives, though ourostensibly compatible model (HP 8100 CD-Writer Plus) refused to successfullyburn a CD after numerous tweaks.

When properly configured with the user's hardware, Pyro provides plenty ofsound-sculpting options for the amateur music engineer. But for those who simplywish to convert CD tracks to MP3 or WMA files for general listening, one of thedozens of other popular--and often free--programs may provide a more economical,no-nonsense solution. --Eric Twelker ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Average Ripper/Burner, Mediocre Features, Poor Interface
    Pros:

    Stable (at least with 2.0.1).
Acceptable MP3 Quality at 192 or higher
Audio Editing has some limited uses

    Cons:

    Poor interface
Lack of library or playlist features

Unless you have a tremendous need to split up your audio files, I'd recommend looking elsewhere because Pyro doesn't really have much else to offer. Pyro is a no-frills CD ripper. The version that I purchased (2.0.1) seems reasonably stable compared to other CD-ripper programs. The MP3 converter quality is acceptable at 192bits (I don't bother with anything lower than that).

The interface is unwieldy, non-intuitive and often aggravating. Suprisingly, it doesn't appear to have any playlist features. This means that once I rip my CDs, I end up adding them to my playlist in MUSICMATCH and listening to them there. The audio edit features have come in handy in a few cases. It's nice to be able to cut out parts of a song, or split it up into multiple tracks. However, the lack of playlist or library features limits the value of the product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not that great
I don't know if it's just me, but this program takes, what seems like eons, to read a song off a CD and convert it to an MP3. I'm running a P4, genuine Intel 2.0Ghz computer with 768MB of RAM and this program is taking a good 1-2 minutes per song (sometimes longer depending on the length) to fully convert it. I haven't done a lot of ripping in my lifetime, but I can swear that I've used other programs (like MS Mediaplayer) that took nowhere near as long as this one does to read a song and convert it. On top of that, this program demands like 100% of my CPU in the process of doing all this. Anytime I was ripping music, it was next to impossible to do anything else because this program was using all my CPU. In all, I don't like this program very much.

1-0 out of 5 stars Error - Error - Error
Never got it to burn a .wav disk. It ripped, slowly, and did burn a mp3 disk. It told me to contact Pyro and let them know about the error no.

I did this a couple times with no response. I ended up calling and speaking to someone in sales. They told me to e-mail them with all the info and they would make sure it got in the right person's hands. I got a response telling me how to do a "FIX". The step-by-step instructions were not accurate for what I was supposed to see, and after I guessed, I still got the same error no. I called back and they actually agreed to take the program back. I had to send a letter stating that I had deleted the program. I was in the process of doing that and decided to try just one more time. This time it told me I had to contact Pyro for and authorization no. I didn't have to do that at the installation. I still haven't figured out the program knew I was supposed to delete it. I was disappointed, if it worked, it would have been perfect for my needs. I guess now I'll have to try Music Match.

3-0 out of 5 stars Horrible WAV to MP3 Converter!
I purchased this software for two reasons: to let me digitally record old cassette tapes, and to convert those files to MP3 format to save space. The CD Wave Editor is an *excellent* digital recording program, and you can buy it ala carte from Cakewalk's website... I highly recommend it.

The MP3 converter, however, is completely unacceptable. Every MP3 file, regardless of the bitrate, has a very annoying tinny, digital quality to it, and even my old analog recordings, which weren't exactly studio quality to begin with, sound awful after conversion.

My recommendation is to buy the Wave Editor software separately and download any LAME-based WAV-to-MP3 freeware.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst piece of [...junk]I ever wasted $$$ on...
Unbelievable!!! After several e-mails, only a few resposnes, No satisfaction.
It will not let me burn a CD without messing that up...
E-mail them and when they DO respond, they give you a whole buch of things to try, none work and you just waste blank CDs...filling them up with random bits from each music track, usually 10 seconds at most of a song.

Worthless...I have tried several other programs and this is the worst. AVOID!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Editing Software
Wow! I guess I am lucky - no problem installing or using. I use Windows XP and have had to reinstall after a crash with no prob. I use this software to edit songs for my (personal hobby) internet radio station - it is excellent for that! I have also used the software to ID3 tag MP3's that didn't show up correctly on CDDB, and I love the crossfade function for my mixes. I am not an expert on anything technical, and this software has been pretty user friendly for me. I plan to upgrade to version 5 when it comes out.

1-0 out of 5 stars check the steinberg site before you buy this one
The first problem I experienced with this software was it could not see my cd drive. I went to the Steinberg site (the company who supports this software) and found that there are quite a few problems with this software. I also searched their site for technical support and could not find any. Maybe it is there, but it was hard to find. I wanted to return the software but I bought it here (Amazon).... ... Read more
