Dissappointed
I was very dissappointed with this product! At first glance, I thought it was a great value for the money. I suppose it still would be compared to similar products if I could only get it to recognize either of my writeable drives. I purchased this product at Costco.

I contacted tech support and downloaded updated databases. I actually did this before and again after contacting support. This did not work so I am still waiting on another response from tech support.

By the way...I believe this item IS returnable to the manufacturer. Check the manufacturer's website! They give instructions for returning the product if you are not satisfied. I will be doing this myself if I do not get some workable solutions.

Well...I finally received a response back from tech support.They did/could not help me any further.In fact, their only suggestion is that I return the product for a refund which is exactly what I will do.I knew this was too good a value for the money to be true.I am currently looking at Pro Show Gold.I have downloaded the trial version and so far it seems to work with my hardware.The price comparison is not even close, but then you tend to get what you pay for.

As for this product, I would not recommend it to anyone.The only saving grace is the return policy!

Very easy to use
I am not sure what the first reviewer's problem was, but using the help screen, I made a DVD in about 10 minutes. You just add the pictures, add any audio file or record yourself, and compile. To make a DVD it did take about 2 and a half hours (it's a lot of data) but I was able to play the DVD on my recorder.The help screen on the program gives step by step instructions with illustrations. Very easy, simple, and clean to make DVD slide shows.

Don't Waste Your Time or Money
I bought this, and what a waste! The instructions are about a paragraph long, and the program is NOT user friendly. When I called their technical support program, which is NOT 24 hour or an 800 number, the technicans were out to lunch! What a joke! I really wish that software was returnable! ... Read more

Elegant simplicity if you have a recent system
Requirements or rather reccomended systems are rather high but if you have a recommended system and the burner and reader are compatible this program is more than adequate for the beginner.
Although Nero is nice with all it's bells and whistles and control panels and options Mediaworks or just Pyro are miles ahead in terms of simplicity. My Mom has a copy as well as myself.

Does not recognize CD burner on my HP media center
My wife purchased this product for me for Christmas and I must say at first it looked extremely easy to use. However it would not recognize I had a DVD RW drive in my HP media center PC when every other application I have has no problem using it. For a CD burner it is pretty useless if it does not even recognise your drive as a burner. Then both my CD drive and DVD drive disappeared from my system (Not physically of course). The registry entries for them became corrupted. I had to do a complete rebuld of my system and it took me about 8 hours of time to get it back to a working state with my previously loaded software. I have deleted all traces of it and am taking it right back to the store. ... Read more

Horrible program
This may make wonderful videos but the problem is getting it installed so that it acutally works! If you just install it like any other program, it freezes up your computer. Then you write to support and they make you jump through hoops-uninstalling/installing, taking out your sound card, reinstalling the drivers for both your sound and video cards even though they work just fine. I got a list of 10 things to do just to make this program work. If you don't respond within 48 hours, you have to start the entire help process all over again and it takes at least that long or longer to do all the things they suggest if you have a normal life with other things to do. I have still not been able to make mine work so I am now looking for a new program. Any suggestions?

No Audio, Poor Audio Sync
I returned this program after countless hours trying to copy VHS tapes to DVD.

I burned 4 coasters with no audio, video was fine. I spent hours on the phone with tech support and was given a different fix each time to try. When I finally figured out that when bringing up the volume control menu and selecting Properties then "Recording" I was able to burn the DVD with sound however the sync with the lip movement was terrible. I again attempted to copy a musical I created, the lip sync was even worse.

After purchasing a book by Jan Ozer and trying to figure out how to correct the Audio Sync, I still lost the battle and returned the product to Best Buy for refund.

Anyone buying this program is asking for a lot of headaches.

Pinnacle misleads purchasers
I purchase the Pinnacle Studio Av/Dv Deluxe version 9 video editing software. The package States that it includes 288 unique 2d and 3d transitions. The web site says " The package includes a professional breakout box, hundreds of additional 2D and 3D transitions and the full version of Pinnacle Studio v.9, the most powerful software video editor in its class" and the owners manual says it comes with the transitions. But I found out you must pay as much as $500.00 extra to unlock them. I found on their web sites frequently asked questions that this had been brought to their attention months ago and they have made no effort to change the web site or packaging to clarify that it may come with the 288 transitions but you can't use them without paying more. Most companies would put an * next to the description and explain that they are not usable without paying a fee. This is the most blatant false advertising I have ever seen. The reason some people can't make it work is if you use one of the locked transitions without paying the fee it won't burn the DVD. I didn't see that you had to pay extra and it will let you put them in but wont burn. No warning comes up or anything to inform you it wont work without paying extra. I have had no problems other then the false advertising it works good and mine is very fast to render and burn.

Locks up often
I bought this with out doing much research and went with the sales persons recommendation. WRONG move. Studio 9 deluxe has been nothing but trouble for me. I got it to capture from my mini DV camcorder just fine and I started to edit the footage and was finding it easy and simple. I started connecting segments together and then began to adjust the length of the segments. At this point it started to lock up often, like about every other segment drop. After working with it for about 8hrs total I had my 25 min film clipped together. I then started to add wipes and then, about 5 clips into the 25 min film, it locked up on me and I had to back out. Now, every time I go back into it to add more wipes, the display locks up and will not show me the final product. I AM RETURNING THIS PRODUCT ASAP. Pinnacle has released 2 updates to this 9.0.0 version (the 9.0.0 version ships with the product)but, at this point, I dont want to even try the updates. The other reviews on this site listed above me tell the story. I think Pinnacle should stay in the Professional business. Count me out on this home version. I am looking hard at Pyro Professional from Abode. Its twice the money but I bet it will be half the headache. God Bless you in you decision ><>

Return Roxio and get this product
All of the companies I've always worked for used Easy CD Creator, so I bought it because it said it was compatible with XP. I've had so many problems with the Roxio product that I'm selling it. It doesn't work with Windows 2000 either. I've lost several CD's as well. I tried the CD Maker Pro and was amazed that it worked well and fast under XP. I was even running several programs in the background while it was burning and didn't have any problems. After talking with our person in charge of making CD's I found out that she had problems with the Roxio product as well.

Terrible
I have found this product to be a complete bucket of guano. Although it hasn't "Hung" my computer it creates CD's that are not recognized by the computer they were created on, let alone a remote box. It creates CD's that stop in the middle of a track, or "hang" not playing the track at all. It is consistent in that it creates an unreliable CD in either CD Copy or Data mode. I won't use it again.

Amazon.com is strange
I checked back to see how things were going for this sorry piece of software and lo and behold, there were only 3 reviews and 2 of them were positive!. I still have my useless copy and will sell it cheap if I can find it. If you like a locked up computer and need coasters, by all means buy this software. I can't believe it still up for sale!! Even though it professes to be Xp compatable there is no way. I posted a more detailed review previously and have no idea why Amazon has deleted it.

NTI Cd maker made me many 22 pistol targets before I finally gave up on it. The asking price for new or used is way too much!

It Will Make Great Coasters, though
I agree with the two previous reviewers. It caused my computer to lock up every time. I would have to reboot since Ctrl-Alt-Del would not work. Definitely a waste of money.

It would be great if it worked
I bought this product based on the reviews from this site. While I see how this software certainly could be great (very powerful and easy to use) it failed me in two key areas:

1.) For whatever reason, the AVI files from my Cannon Powershot S400 digital camera are not compatible with the Video Deluxe 2 Software. The Magix support staff, of course, blamed Cannon and provided no help whatsoever, even though the Cannon AVI files work fine with competitor software produced by Roxio and ArcSoft. Considering the popularity of Cannon cameras, this incompatibility is a major liablity.

2.) Again, for whatever reason, the Video Deluxe 2 software crashes my computer every time I attempt to burn a VCD or DVD. Again, the Roxio and ArcSoft software work fine, so the problem is only with Video Deluxe 2.

Despite downloading the most recent patch, it is a shame this software is so riddled with bugs. It certainly has tremendous potential if not for the bugs.

The Best Out There!
Okay, I tried all the other ones. Pinnacle, to be more specific. I got this and guess what..IT WORKS! I just got the new Sony DCRDVD300 (that camcorder that records direct to DVD) and I was looking for a software that I could edit my films. I tried everything and this one actually captures the movie and edits... and... oh my god..I can burn direct to DVD with no problem. And after I am done, I put the disc in my DVD player and it PLAYS. I think this is the best software out there. And believe me, I am what you call a "software junkie". I have them all.. DVD X Copy..etc. With Magix, Video 2.0 Deluxe, you can really edit, burn, copy..gosh...anything. I love it. And it recognized my brand new DVD burner (also from Sony). Make sure you have the right DVD discs so you can burn at max. speed which right now is 8x (of course, as you read, they are now coming out with 10x). I love this software. It is very rare (exept for Adobe and Jasc) that you buy a software and you can actually do what the box say you can do.

I like it.
It took some time to get a handle on it, it's not simple at first like Pinnacle. But once I got it, its been great. I like it way over Pinnacle Studio 8. It does everything I could ask and more. Pinnacle was easy at first but you can do so much more with Video Deluxe 2.0. I did have a problem with the sound not matching the video but after getting a patch from Magix it has been working great. You can do so much with this program. I keep trying new things with it. Tons of fun and for this price can't beat it.

Great features but annoyingly buggy with large files
I have used this program with mixed success. While I love the multi-track editing feature, the interface took a bit of getting used to. The printed manual was not very helpful at all, and onscreen help was no better. Regardless, I was able to create some very nice digital photo slideshows with dazzling transitions and smooth music scores. I even made a few short videos with synchronized split-screen (PIP) effects from my camcorders.

But it takes an embarassing long time to load large movie files, and often crashes from simple video clip manipulation operations such as copy and pasting on large files. Then I have to wait while it reloads the movie clips again, followed by another crash, etc.

Because of the bugs and crashes, I found it to be most comfortable creating slideshows and short video clips no more than 5 minutes in length. Any larger projects were simply a waste of time and cursed with crashes.

I had little trouble capturing digital video from my Samsung MiniDV (FireWire) camera, or NTSC analog video through my ATI All-In-Wonder card, although it had noise trouble with mono audio sources.

I just wish they had spent a lot more time debugging the software before releasing it.

Don't buy this product!!!!!
I completely agree with the previous reviewer from Belleville IL. I have been trying for two months to capture video from my MiniDV Sony Handycam without success. My computer far exceeds the system requirements, and I have no problems capturing with Windows Movie Maker. However, with Video Deluxe 2.0 Plus, the captured video is choppy and the audio is out of sync. I have tried everything suggested on the small users forum as well as the skimpy FAQ section on their website. Moreover, technical support is slow, surly, and totally unhelpful. send photos
i ordered this software and installation went every smooth. I selected a photo to send by msn mail. after pressing the send button, absolutely nothing happen. you have to start send emails back and forth or try getting someone on the phone. this software is too much trouble. i am sending it back to the company for free......

Very Impressive!
I was looking for some software to help a friend who is not a PC expert send photos by email. I found a review in the Wall Street Journal by Walter Mossberg that demonstrated this Send Photos could do the job.

I checked and found the original version on sale. However, I checked the Novatix web site and found a free download trial version and also an update: Send Photos Gold, for sale.

I tried the evaluation version - an 18MB download. Only try this if you have a broadband Internet connection! I installed it and it worked very well. I tried it first using Microsoft Outlook 2000 as my mail program. Configuring that led me to an process of installing Microsoft Collaboration Data Objects (CDO). I could not be bothered to find my MS Office CD so I took ther risk and installed it from the Novatix web site. I am always nervous about this kind of thing because Microsoft software is so complex and brittle, but so far it works and nothing else seems to have broken. The warnings about "do this at your own risk" gave me pause however.

The main point of the program is to enable "the rest of us" to email pictures easily. I was impressed that I could mail multiple high resolution photos from my digital camera and the software built a page containing compressed but still high quality images. Their compression algorithms are excellent and completely invisible.

I invited my non-expert friend to try the evaluation version. She installed it and used it with Outlook Express. Her first messages had the text but no photos which confused us. The problem was solved by closing and restarting Outlook Express and since then everything has been fine.

We tried some simple photo editing: cropping, adjusting brightness and so on. That is no problem and probably fixes 99% of all amateur photos. What a contrast in simplicity from, say, Adobe Photoshop Elements. A fine program in its way, but so complex! And this is the "simplified" version...

The other major feature is the stationery. I am old fashioned and go for the plain and simple look, but I am sure many will enjoy all the options.

Lastly we tried using it with Yahoo and Hotmail. Here Send Photos uses its own mail server to send the photos, but with a "sender" field that makes the message look like it comes from me. That's a clever solution to allow Send Photos to work with any email system, even if they are web based and use proprietary protocols. I have two concerns about this:

1. If Novatix goes out of business, their mail server will go away and that use of the program won't work any more. You'd still be able to use it with Outlook (Express) because there it uses your own mail server.

2. It seems to be possible to send photos on behalf of any user. This is because Novatix can't check the validity of an email address, nor whether I have the password for it. This seems to be dangerous and I did not see anything about it in the Send Mail otherwise excellent online help.

I heartily recommend this program for non-expert users.

Email photos in a quick and fun way
I'm a mother of two with family out of the state and out of the country, and I'm so happy to finally have an easy way to share my photos with them. I'm not real technical and I'm still able to compose an email with photos (and comments for each one) in just a few minutes. The backgrounds ("stationery" themes) that you can pick from are fun and make me look like I really know what I'm doing! My son just got braces and minutes after we got home I sent the grandparents photos with SendPhotos, and they get to see them in their email just the way I sent them...no attachments to fiddle with...just fun pictures right in the email.

I have been using SendPhotos for a few weeks and I am amazed by this software. SendPhotos has made it really enjoyable to share pictures with my family.

With this program, you don't need to be a computer expert, quite the contrary, I think that anybody can create stunning picture emails with it in no time. The best part for me? Emailing a single picture as an attachment used to create an email that was typically 500kB or more. With SendPhotos I can now send 30 pictures (yep, I've done it :) in a message and still be under 500kB. That makes it so much faster to send or receive pictures. And the recipients of my emails don't need to install any special software to see the photos.

One of the better entry level programs
This exceeded my expectations. The two things I like most are easy editing functions and the ability to create high quality menus for DVDs. My only complaint is that there is a limit on the size of the files you can capture, ie. capturing a 4hr extended play home video. The program does capture the footage, gives several error/warning messages and the sound on the footage is lost. I will continue to use to transfer purchased VHS to DVD. Good program/value to get started with.

I do NOT recommend this software
Trying to burn imported files to SVCD. Every single one had a spot where the video went bad momentarily then audio and video were out of sync. You cannot burn a file without running thru their encoder first and I could never get a good output file. Their tech support told me to update my VIDEO CARD drivers and windows media PLAYER codecs. Then they told me they wouldn't help me because I didn't meet the minimum sys requirements because I had integrated sound device instead of a separate sound card which has nothing to do with the problem. I asked for a refund and was told that I agreed to their license when I installed the software so I guess I got taken. My advice, by something else.

Would be cool if it actually worked
I have never been able to do anything with this program without it locking up. Nothing at all. I have contacted customer service several times and they are no help at all (such useless suggestions as "try reinstalling the program"). My computer exceeds all of the minimum requirements and has had no problems with other burning software. It looks like it has some really nice features, IF they worked. Become a mix master with Magix
Whether you have or haven't had experience mixing music magix music video maker generation 6 makes it easy to get started. It comes packaged with 3 cd's: A program cd, and 2 sample cd's containing various sample libraries for sound and video. It has a very user friendly editor, utilizing drag and drop to bring in sound files directly from your folders. It has a large range of compatibility (wav, mp3, mid, etc.) The program also comes loaded with it's own synthesizers, vocoders, and more. The only critical thing I would have to say it doesn't seem to have a pan editor and also you'll have to upgrade to the deluxe version if you want a few more options like ambient synth, and effects envelope editor. The software comes with a video maker too as a seperate application however, it can be integrated into the main mixing program and edited there as well. The video maker allows for cutting, pasting, adding effects and lenses to movies. You can even drag and drop mpegs straight into the editor and mess around with them! You can also connect to their ftp server in the editor and download new sound and video samples. All in all I'd have to say this is a great program and I definitely recommend it. VideoWave 4 works with a variety of video formats, offering outputoptions for VHS, DV, CD, and streaming over the Web. The interface is smart, andthe workflow beautifully simple. big upset
I wish I had looked at more of the reviews before purchasing this, I was deeply upset with this product and hope others will read these reviews before purchasing. Wish I could give a better software suggestion but I'm still looking myself.

excelent software
videowave 4 is about my favorite software next to After effects and photoshop .But it is an underapreciated product.I believe that it is because only recently have people been getting PC's powerful enough to run it correctly.I had some problems at first but after uping my RAM to 512 mg and a capture drive its perfect.this program is easy to use and you can do basicaly anything you see in hollywood TV done within this program.it even has a blue screen key to ad special effects shots.its simply has to be run on a fast computer like any other editing program. it is an entry level program of course but I have used Adobe premiere and a mac with Final Cut Pro and I must say I would rather use this than any of those for the most so far even though those have there place. You can do alot with it Artisticaly It is like photoshop with layers of effects and you get a full preview before rendering and it renders fast so you can have a video done instead of a hassle.The only weekness is no quicktime support and the titler is a little amatuerish looking[do your titles in photoshop HINT HINT].With this videowave and a digital cam you have no excuse not to turn out the coolest movies you have had in your mind all those years

Had version 3, it would not not work no matter what I did. Finally I tried it one last time. I followed the hardware installation word for word. Turns out there were three not one, but three drivers to load USB, AUDIO, and VIDEO. I went thru the steps. Works great. I purchased this software with a Belkin analog video input. Really surprised at captured video it works great. I did not have to go out and buy a new digital video camera. Less than one hundred dollar investment.

Decent product with bugs and no support
The product appears appealing though simple. Although the documentation and tutorials are skimpy, with enough effort one can figure it out. The problem is it crashes every time I try to save my editing result. And there is no help in producing VCDs. The troubleshooting guide and online help are silent on the problems I am encountering. The company does not respond to email requests and requires payment for telephone help.

Beware Installation Routine
Great Product but beware the installation routine.

I'm running W98 SE and during installation the installer changed the file winaspi.dll without notice with an older version, causing loss of the digital audio stream capability of my system (bad if you want to edit DV videos).

Its friendly software for the beginners
I have tried adobe premiere but its to complicated and the price its expensive. When I tried the Video studio 7, its so impress me. Easy to used event for the beginner. Its lot of feature also although it is the few additional video clips but you will satisfy to used that. You can make dubbing your vice or music with this video, edit your screenplay, add the text with 3D motion, add special effect and lot of feature with the simple click. When you finish your editing you just click share button and you have able to save your project to DVD, VCD or event in your miniDV format. It's wonderful for the beginner event for professional's video editor.

To have the fastest editing process ypu need Pentium IV/ 2.4 Ghz, 512 Mb memory, 128 Mb Video card memory, at least 40 Gb Hard disk and I' Link Card to connect your camcorder to your PC.

You will enjoy your family video with this software

Great for the Home User
I have been using Ulead Video Studio 6 for over a year for editing my videos and preparing them for burning to DVD, and it has given me 95% satisfaction, so I recently upgraded to 7.

For video editing software under $100, I don't think you can beat UVS7. I agree that it does take some getting used to, but if you're not in a rush to do a perfect production the day you get it, and allow yourself some tinkering time, you'll see that it works and works well.

Mine has never dropped a frame during capture, which itself is worth a lot. The edit "flow" is natural and very flexible -- but, again, I agree that it takes some getting used to. And the quality of the final video or disk is very nice, which is what it's all about.

Personally, I think it could use more choices for title animations, which, right now, is the only negative thing I can say about it.

If you get the download version, be sure to go back and get the 7.01 patch and the "extra content," which is many more effects and filters. You'll be cheating yourself if you don't.

Again, I don't think a home digital video buff can find better software for this price.

EASY TO USE product
Great price and easy to use. It comes with a tutorial disc that teaches you visually how to use this product. So anyone who says they are "baffled" must not have used this disc. Bottom line, its an easy product to use. It's not going to give you something that resembles what you see on TV, with all the great special effects you might see in a commercial, movie, or TV program, but for what its designed to do - create home DVD's - this product works great. I created a 45 DVD on my nephew's first 5 years of life, added music, such as the theme to "Superman" and "Ghostbusters" (when showing clips from Halloweens of the past), along with graphics, and worth while transition effects. My family loved it. If you are looking for software to enhance your home movies, one word of warning however - you need to ensure you have a computer capable of handling this or any of these types of product. I have a very compatible computer (3.2 ghz, 200 gig, 512 mb ram, etc.) so I have no problem using this product. Lets put it this way, you computer might be in need of some costly upgrades if its older than 3 years and you want to use this product.

Bottom line, I really like this product a lot and its very easy to use.

Steep learning curve
I agree with other reviews here that this is about the best under $100 package for editing video. I've had my quibbles in the past with Ulead over their customer support, and I can't say if that's better now. It's been years since I called them (I stopped buying their software, essentially). But this software runs without freezing my PC, it works well, and it's got most of the bells and whistles.

The only thing I'll warn you about is that this is definitely not an intuitive process (editing video, that is). Or maybe it's just me. However, you really need to get in there and start fooling around with this software to see what it can and can't do. With a single video track, you're going to have to leanr how to use their overlay track if you want to make your videos look professional. It's a steep learning curve for the novice, but once you play with this for a while, the curve with flatten out considerable...

A quick tip I found helpful -- the voice and music tracks will both work for MP3's, so you can use both tracks and cross fade your music for those long nature videos you like to make.

All in all, I'd recommend this software, although I'd also recommend you pick up a book or two on video editing...

Works for me
I started with Roxio software that came with my TDK DVD burner. It worked fine, but it didn't seem to have the flexibility I wanted for high quality in and output. So I picked up VideoStudo 7 [...]. I might add that you can download a fully funcional trial version if you like. I did, and it worked fine. I used it while waiting for my [...] order to arrive. Of course, it's large, so only do it if you have high speed DSL.

I have had no difficulty with it. I had the fairly humble goal of transfering my family movies from tape before they deteriorated. I've archived two family movies already, transfering them through our Sony Digital8 TRV120 camera. The first DVD I did was originally filmed on the digital camera, and the quality was excellent. I ran everything at maximum quality, minimum compression. On the second, I copied an older tape originally filmed on an analog Sony 8 mm camera. The quality again was good--no loss from the tape itself, I don't think. Imagine the relief of getting those memories preserved--now copied multiple times and archived in safe places.

As you can tell, I am no expert on these things. I figure if you have good hardware and are reasonably smart, the rest should be easy. It was. The software is fairly intuitive. I only checked the manual a couple of times for reference. If your system is powerful enough and you have the patience to play with it, you should be fine. It hung up on me once or twice, but only when I tried to ask it to do something stupid in the middle of another function. I can't say it has ever acted weird on me when I have not acted weird on it.

I'm using a Dell 600 notebook with 1 Gig of RAM and a 1.4 Pentium processor. I have 40 Gig of space on my D drive, but I also got an extra 80 Gig external drive. intermediate players a prerequisite
The instuctional part is good but the animated fretboard does not always follow what the instuctor is doing on the guitar, it sometime plays the notes in a differant position on the guitar.
It is very helpful to know the notes repetitive postion on the fretboard other wise you may have a hard time following how the instuctor is playing.
good cd but probably not for the beginner.

Great Product
I totally disagree with the last review. I've had this product for the last year and use it often. I would consider myself an intermediate player and find this very helpful. This isn't meant for beginners as a "learn everything you need to know" type of product. It is meant to show the intermediate player alot of technique. If you have any desire to play Crossroads and Little Wing this is a must. You can slow the video lesson down and go frame by frame to see the fingering and technique that Keith Wyatt uses. The complete music videos are way cool as well. The only thing it lacks is a way to print the tab so you can practice away from the computer. I also have the "Teach me Blues Guitar" and love it as well. I wish Keith Wyatt and Voyetra would put out more products. Both of these products have been a great addition to my practice routine.

Avoid this product
I bought this product on a whim, thinking I could use to re-enforce my "guitar for dummies" knowledge.

While the cover looks exciting (play along with the band, many views of the guitar, etc.), once you load the product and start trying to use it to learn is when you realize how badly you want to get your money back.

I think the biggest complaint, is that there is no order on the lessons. There is a table of contents, but nothing even remotely indicating "start here and go in this direction". It is the most unorganized piece of software I have ever purchased.
