I really used to struggle when emailing pictures to my friends and family. Now, it's actually fun! SendPhotos Gold takes away the hassle of having to deal with large attachments, and somehow makes all the photos small for sending in my email messages. The people I send photos to see them exactly as I send them--they don't have to open attachments or anything. Just open my email like normal. Very fun and handy! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor amateurish job.
Yeah! If you are too lazy to read VERY GOOD documentation that comes with FCP4 and have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what NLE systems are, it is for you. Technically it is very poor, amateurish video. They should learn themselves how to use Final Cut , not to teach other. All recordings have a jumpy unbalanced and unabridged audio. In the first two lessons guys probably have played with some effects, to figure out what Final Cut is. The text on the package states that he is "professional editor", LOL. I would not be trust him to edit my vacation footage, the word "professional" n our time has many interpretations .
In the second lesson there is missing sub-lesson.
Video jumpy and poorly synchronized with sound. In some places it looks like a jock, the lips moves in almost second after the word was sounded.
The lessons are full with common bla-bla-bla, near third of lessons are "introductions" of any sort.
I found that FREE lessons on AVID website with approximation to FCP are more helpful AND WORLDS BEYOND PROFESSIONALLY.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Quick Start to a Very Deep Program
Anyone using or wanting to use Final Cut Pro 4.0 should seriously consider investing in Magnet Media's tutorial series Inside Final Cut Pro. The DVD is packed with live video demonstrating step-by-step the basic operations, interface navigation and advanced techniques you'll want to use whether you are a hobbyist or professional videographer. I found the samples to be pertinent and the instruction straight forward.

The Video begins with an overview of the interface. Despite the fact that I've used FCP 1.25 through 3.0, I found new insights into how to better utilize FCP and its core features with this section. The lessons are taught by Evan Schectman, a professional editor and the founder of Outpost Digital, and I found him to be warm and without the arrogance and elitism of many editor/teachers. I understoood most lessons the first time through. Others, such as the concept of "nesting" and the Pro-audio features I have watched a few times through. Again, this is another benefit of this type of learning. You never have to reread anything. You simply replay the lesson as often as you need to. The learning feedback is simple and painless.

One tip-despite the fact that the DVD only runs on a Mac with a dvd drive-the files on the DVD are readable on a PC equipped with a DVD drive and quicktime (although trying to figure out which files are which can be a challenge) - I used this methed often to following along with Evan when things got complicated - worked like a charm.

Some other features covered are color-correction (fantastic overview with practical applications) compositing and animation, for those that wish to stay exclusively in FCP with out straying to the likes of After Effects or Combustion - Introductions to Soundtrack and Livetype, both new applications within the FCP 4.0 suite.

Overall I was impressed and thoughly pleased with my experience with Magent Media's Training. I believe this is the future of self-education in the video editing realm. Books can be cumbersome and time consuming. With Magnet medias Inside Final Cut Pro, you have an all-in-one instructor on a disc you can pull out for a refresher anytime you wish. And you never have to leave your house to get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Training & Exceptional Value
This is an efficient and comprehensive way to get up to speed on Final Cut Pro 4. The instructor is clear and thorough and the examples are tremendously helpful. Best of all - it includes 7 hours of taining.

I learned more with this Inside Editing DVD than I have in many courses and weekend workshops I've taken.

I highly recommend this training DVD for anyone - from beginner to advanced - who wants to become a master at Final Cut Pro 4. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Video Editing
Reviewing a program like Media Edit Pro is a tough slog. Not because of any shortcomings of the program but because it was completely different from what I expected. Perhaps a brief description of the review process is in order. What I review is stuff that interests me, and I'm interested in Movies. So when I saw a press release for Media Edit Pro I thought "Hey, Here's a movie editor more robust than iMovie but cheaper than Final Cut Express, that's something I'd like to try." A couple of e-mails later and I had a copy. I installed Media Edit Pro (which is growing tiresome to type so I'll truncate the title to MEP in future references) with no problems. then I downloaded and installed the update. Still a problem free experience. Found some footage to play with and fired up the program to give MEP it's first test run. Big Problem.

The problem wasn't with the program, it just wasn't what I was expecting. I expected a simple but more robust movie editing program, I was wrong. The program is called Media Edit Pro for a reason and the reason is that MEP is not just a movie editing program (one assumes the author put more thought in the title than I did when I read it) but a full fledged media editing program (hence the text). That means pretty much any media you care to mess with. I only care to mess with video stuff so I'm sticking to the video side, but from the little I know about audio and stills it seems that MEP would be quite capable in that department. Let's hit the easy stufff right now, MEP includes plenty of effects and transitions and you do have complete titling control. But there's more to MEP than being just a beefier copy of iMovie, much more.

Say you want to pull off the effect from the beginning of Saving Private Ryan/ Gladiator. You remember that extra violent fog-o-war feeling. You can't do it with iMovie, it's just not possible out of the box. It's no big trick with MEP. To be honest there's not a lot you can't do to video footage with MEP. You can do titles any way you wish, move the audio around, add a single frame or a thousand, paint. Paint? Did I say paint, let's look back... It appears I did say paint. Well that's okay because you can paint directly on your video using the painting tools. It's a more useful feature than you might think. This might have you wondering "If I can paint, does this mean I can apply other image editing techniques to my movie?" Wonder no longer, the answer is yes. You want to mask the video? No problem. You want to apply an effect to just a region of the movie (you know a specific selected area)? Again no problem. Think of it, you can add cool effects to just, say, half the visible video. People familiar with imaging editing programs will be able to go nutso crazy with the included tools and mere mortals like I can still have a pants load of fun.

How powerful is MEP? I don't know. I know it can handle anything I can throw at it but I only have limited video editing experience. Could a super slick director take MEP to it's limits? I would bet the answer is yes. At least I think they could, you see MEP also includes brush editor to make your own brushes. These aren't just static brushes, these are special cool movie brushes. Even more intriguingly MEP includes something called RBscript. This is well beyond my ability to use but I suspect that in the right hands it could be a very powerful tool. With the ability to script stuff I conclude that MEP is limited more by the user than the program.

The last question to ponder: what do I give up if I ditch iMove and start using MEP? Well, MEP does everything iMovie does as well as plenty of other neat stuff I haven't mentioned (for example: you can set the dimensions of the movie). MEP offers a great deal of creative control and for those of you who don't want to shell for Final Cut Express but need more than iMovie this is the best alternative I've run across. MEP is very powerful, very original and very very cool. In addition to all the aforementioned goodness MEP includes a printed manual (becoming a rarity, but helpful with a program as original as MEP) and a very cool sticker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use! Nothing I've ever seen

4-0 out of 5 stars A step up from Windows Movie Maker2
After reading some of those heavy handed reviews of MediaStudio Pro, I decided to add my comments. Although the program is a bit tricky to learn, once you've mastered the ins and outs it's great. There's a lot of flexibilty for creating FX and transitions, but you may have to read the tutorials and extensive help screens. This is a definite step up from Windows MovieMaker2. It allows you to be much more creative. It's not for those seeking instant editing solutions. It's a great stepping stone from the consumer to real editing world. It also works on my old Pentium II machine! You don't need a $1500 P4 to use this software. It preforms well on windows XP pro. Get the free 'trial' version a judge for yourself.

1-0 out of 5 stars the WORST editor in history
Now, it's rare I hate a single program because I believe
that there is a lot of potential and use in a many apps
around these days, unfortunately this is not the case for
this heinous product. Hate is definitely the apt word I
hold for Media studio pro. It is by far the most frustrating,
confusing, useless video editor on the market today.
How do these people sleep at night by charging so much for
absolute garbage.
People - heed my warning..by VEGAS 5.0 instead. I give that
product a heavy endorsement and thoroughly recommend it to
amatuers and professionals alike. It is simply brilliant
and a dream to use - THE WAY VIDEO EDITORS SHOULD BE.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT EDITOR
Its a bit tricky to get a hang of, but this editor is great! You can do just about anything with it that would noramlly cost hundreds more to do on a mac with final cut. It comes with a great video editor, audio editor, and most importantly, video paint. If your film has glistches, or you want to add cool eddfects, such as a lightsaber, or lightning, this is the program to use. Once you get the hang of it, the possibilities are endless!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ulead Media Studio Pro 7.0
I bought it 6 months ago and have yet to produce 1 respectable project. The technical support is non-existant and vague. In fact
I'm attempting another project today and I need updates and patches....ALL the websites are unavailable.
the program itself is WAY too complex and you have to carry out far too many mouse clicks to simply apply and adjust transitions. Transitions are not smooth (Audio & Video).
Ulead says it runs on 98SE,which I originally had, but when I ran into problems, their solution was switch to 2000. I did, it's still finnikey. $450 is now collecting dust. It looks like ADOBE Premiere now! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing capture mode and file management
Looked good at first. The Demo is awesome. But the management of files in the projects is very confusing and unlike regular MS Windows method. I want to be able to clear out the project and start over with something new but have trouble starting a new project and puting the clips in the new project. The video capture was disappointing because there is no sound during the capture. Preview and Playback is ok though. After capturing a clip the screen would not even show the next capture without unplugging the firewire cable and re-inserting. Using the timeline to trim the clips was awkward. There has to be something better than this. Shame for a programmer to put so much effort into a product but fail to make simple and basic things easy for the first time user. I'll have to go back to arcSoft ShowBiz without so many options. PC I'm using Win XP Pro on is Athlon 2100+ and Canon ZR40 Mini DV. wilsonbusn@cox.net

2-0 out of 5 stars Problem with A/V sync
I bought this software because Pinnacle Studios that came with my ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 has A/V sync problem. I was disappointed that when I try to edit my videos with Video Deluxe, the audio will lag the video in the final MPEG file just like Pinnacle Studio. It appears some of the video frames were dropped. The problem seems to be with the video decoder since when I play back the original video unedited in Video Deluxe the sync problem will appear (no such problem when I play back in MS Media Player).

The web site is no help as it doesn't seem any Magix employee is responding to this complaint which many people are making. I was hesitant to buy this product since it was not even mentioned on Magix website. Until they fix this problem, this software is worthless to me.

Other than that, the interface is very good. It splits the video by time instead of scene which is good since the scenes can take a long time to generate as in Pinnacle Studio. I'd give Video Deluxe 5 stars if they fix this A/V sync problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Editor, but.....
I've had Video Deluxe 2.0 for about 3 weeks now and my opinion is that it is a great editor. It does some quirky things every now and then, but compared to other Video Editors that I own and others that I have tried, it is very stable. The Deluxe version allows 16 tracks, where the plus version allows 32. You can mix video and photos and do all kinds of cool zooms and pans. I'm really only getting started. The only caveats are: 1) the documentation is not up to date, 2) receiving official Magix support is a drag. You have 3 support options: 1) email - which has a 1 week turnaround 2) you can call a 900 number - which is very expensive 3) use the Magix forums - which are divided up by which language you speak. An official Magix technician monitors each forum except for the English (U.S.) forum, but there are several end users that are willing to help with any questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Product for your Money!
I bought the Plus version of this software for the extra bells and whistles but I don't use them much, so I recommend the basic version for a few dollars less. I purchased this on TechTV's recommendation. It is an incredible value with an amazing amount of flexibility in your editing. It isn't the easiest piece of software on the market - it's not a "click" to capture, "click" to cut, and "click" to burn - and while the DVD menus are pretty flexible but not as comprehensive as some of Ulead's menus. Right now there is also no motion or music to menus. I find this software intuitive but I've heard some people find it a little difficult. You can work in storyboard or timeline mode and toggling between the two is simple. The effects, transitions, and audio fixes are superb. The online bulletin board is friendly, USER-friendly, and a great place to have all kinds of questions answered. I have it bookmarked and check it daily. With the Plus version, in addition to the software and additional material, you also get a labeler software, photo manipulation software, and a music-editor and player. It's imported every kind of file I've thrown at it, including footage from my Sony TRV18 digicam and VOB files from (my personal) DVDs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Many good features, does not support some AVIs
Video Deluxe 2.0 has all the features I was looking for in a video editor. It can take hours of movie clips in various formats and sew them together in a nice coherent package using a whole slew of powerful editing options. Sound can be manipulated in just about any way you can think of, and videos can be brightened, stretched, put in different tones, slowed down, etc. The program also includes many different transitions and ways of applying effects more or less strongly during different parts of the same clip. The layout is very intuitive and easy to use. DVDs and (s)VCDs can be recorded easily and directly using the program's DVD editor and burning utility.
The one drawback for me is that the program does not readily read AVI (MJPEG) files from my digicam, whereas Ulead's video editing software does. This has caused me a lot of trouble. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

For all the budding Spielbergs and Lynches out there, Apple’s Final Cut Express is a great first foray into the world of movie magic. Even if you’re only looking to polish up your vacation videos, Final Cut Express offers easy-to-use controls and an open workspace that welcomes all abilities.

In a nutshell, Final Cut Express is a pared-down version of the popular Final Cut. The technology behind both packages is the same, so you can count on high quality output. But you, as the average user, won’t be burdened by the more technically robust features. In fact, while we were editing, we couldn’t think of a feature that we wished was included in Final Cut Express--this package allowed for plenty of different ways to modify your video, including audio effects, filters (like sepia, black and white, opacity, brightness, color control), and transitions (such as fade, wipe, and so on).

We started by viewing Apple’s online help videos to learn the lingo of compositing, transitions, and ripples and rolls. These serve as an invaluable introduction to the package, especially since the package does not include a Help menu.

Setting up Final Cut Express is a breeze, with or without a camera in place. And getting going is easy too. If you’re familiar with other software packages that use layers, you’ll easily transition into the layers (both audio and video) that Final Cut Express uses. If not, it’s easy to learn. You can layer up to 99 clips of video together in the timeline to get just the right effect. Our favorite feature of Final Cut Express is the ability to import not only still images and a range of video, but also Photoshop documents. When importing files from Photoshop, Final Cut Express retains all of the layers, meaning you can animate your presentation’s titles and graphical elements easily. The package’s animation capabilities let you really get some creative results out of your project: you can create an audio-accompanied slideshow, animate your title work, or even create a picture-in-picture effect, just to name a few. --Emilie Herbst ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally updated -- addendum to my previous review
Okay, Apple finally updated FCE, and after downloading the patch, FCE now will do what it is supposed to do without crashing. A few of the controls still are not quite up to the "pro" standard -- which is mildly annoying, given that the promotion for the software was that it was "just like Final Cut Pro except that you are limited to DV editing." However, it is now more than adequate for even advanced amateurs and its compositing and slow-motion capability are outstanding. 99% of users will never push it as far as I do, and I recently did an 8-layer composite with greenscreen, three layers of pyro effects, filters and motion on every layer and slow-motion applied. Came out great and didn't crash once. I only wish they had updated it earlier.

2-0 out of 5 stars I had real problems
Okay, maybe I'm pushing the limits of Final Cut Express doing 5-layer composites, but I routinely crash the program so badly on my 800mhz iMac that the program actually won't boot again until I throw away the User Preferences file. It also crashes if I try to adjust "Brightness and Contrast" and export the file as an AVI. Be warned -- it's better than iMovie but it does NOT have all the features of Final Cut Pro -- not even close. The motion commands are crippled and the software itself has yet to be updated, which indicates that Apple isn't making this a priority. I've tested FCP and found it has none of these problems, so I expect I'll have to upgrade.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great intro into pro editing...
Believe it or not I purchased FCP 3.0 a year ago as well as several books and cdRom based tutorials, but never really caught on to Apple's way of editing. The migration I made over from PC based Media Studio pro and Rex Edit proved difficult for me. That said I recently purchased a new PowerBook and took advantage of a $99 promotional buy of FCE. With nothing to lose I have found the intro to Fianl Cut Pro within Final Cut Express very encouraging.

This software along with PeachPit Press's Final Cut Express Quick Start have proven to be a great combination and easily understandable introduction to a very Pro based Tool. And, don't just look at FCE as a temporary editing solution until you spend the $1000 for FCP4, but even as a full featured set editing app all by itself.

With the exception of Studio's and individuals requiring professional level editng and capabilities intended for commercial and theatrical releases etc... FCE should prove to be money well spent at either$299, $249 and for sure $99
dollars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
This is a great software if u are inbetween iMovie and Final Cut Pro but you are worried about price. Great title and effects editing. Overall a smart purchase for a smart product

4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, intuitive, and easy to get started
I bought a copy of Final Cut Express to edit a short film that I had shot on MiniDV. My previous experience was with Adobe's Premiere which I used without any formal training to my unfortunate frustration. These are some of my observations after finishing my first rough cut with Final Cut Express.

Final Cut Express 1.0.0 had a scary "unexpectedly quit" error that had me simultaneously sweating and squirming. There's a temporary work-around and it's fixable with a downloaded patch (1.0.1) from the Apple Support website.

Rendering clips happened quickly enough on my 700MHz G3 iBook.

I've found Final Cut Express to be very easy to use and control. The controls are simple to use and understand. The main thing is that, unlike with Premiere, I didn't become immediately frustrated with it. I'm positive that Premiere was simply "too professional" a package for me to handle. I'm sure that on the right system and with the right training it is an excellent product. For me right now, I just need a step up from iMovie.

According to the manual all the controls and instructions are applicable to the Final Cut Pro interface. Final Cut Express appears to be a good training ground for those who eventually will migrate to the Final Cut Pro. The documentation also says that Final Cut Express projects can be opened in Final Cut Pro, though Final Cut Express cannot open Final Cut Pro projects.

I still haven't scratched the surface of the capabilities of the package. The manual on the CD-ROM is a 600+ page .pdf file that covers not only the technical procedures for performing video and audio tasks, but also provides some advice and hints that you should keep in mind during shooting to make the post-production steps easier. ...
