Photosuite is a wonderful photo-editing product. Since I am a casual point and shoot digital photographer, I use the autofix option all the time to clean up my pictures, plus of course the red eye removal tool and the clone tool (to remove the date/time stamp I forgot to turn off in some of my pictures). I use VideoWave to transfer/capture my video to my PC, and then edit it down to remove unwanted video clips. I also use it to add text using different fonts, styles and effects, plus add transitions between clips, and background sound tracks. When complete, I then send the output to DVDBuilder for authoring to DVD. I could go on and on how I use it, but the bottom line, this product is outstanding. It is loaded with excellent features and is a must have product for transforming your digital content to marvelous DVD movies or slide shows.
Roxio provides many materials to help you find all the answers, such as how-to video tutorials, and PDF user guides. The Roxio web site knowledgebase also helps you find answers to any questions, and if you still need help, I found their tech support email responses were quick, only taking 1-2 days to get answers. I recommend this product for people at all levels.

I recently bought a DVD burner and now need DVD-savvy software. The DVD and video tools in NeroVision Express (NVE) that came with Nero 5.5 didn't impress me. I have Magix Video Deluxe 2.0 for video editing, and it came with DVD burning tools, but it was so buggy at dealing with large MPEG files that I desperately had to look elsewhere. So I have been trying out Nero Ultra 6.3.1.15 for the past week strictly on the DVD functions, since I know that CD (and VCD) functions worked flawlessly in Nero 5.5. The basic Nero Burning Rom user interface in 6 Ultra isn't much better than 5.5, although it's prettier. The Nero StartSmart interface is a lot better than Nero Wizard. It took a few minutes to get used to StartSmart, but now I'm sold on it. NeroVision Express 2 (NVE2) is quite an upgrade over NVE, especially since the DVD encoding tools don't require an extra-cost add-in. I was able to pull in large (1 Gb) files with only a few seconds delay for loading each file (Video Deluxe can take up to 10 minutes each), split/crop them inside NVE2, add chapter markers, and create decent DVD menus. I made a 2 hr 10 min (4.2 Gb) DVD using a mix of clips from 8mm video via an ATI All-In-Wonder analog capture card, MiniDV, and photo slideshow output from Video Deluxe (it has a lot more transition effects than NVE2, and still works pretty well for small files of up to a few meg). I was able to burn them to DVD+RW and DVD-RW with only minor startup issues on a 1.1GHz Athlon and NEC ND-1200AD DVD dual-format burner with Windows 2000. The 4.2 Gb file took 15 hours to encode to DVD format files on the hard drive. But actual burning takes 25-40 minutes depending on media type. There was little online or help documentation to explain the benefits of encoding to the hard drive, but it will save time if you need to burn the same project multiple times. Most notably, I am able to do almost everything using the tools in Nero 6 Ultra - something not possible (or at least with satisfactory results) with Nero 5.5. Nero Cover Designer is quite handy. It's powerful enough for the enthusiast, with basic text, image, and database tools. But it's not for professional graphic artists who need borders around text, translucent fills, or aligning objects with each other. Small problems I ran into with the DVD creation process: 2. Another more annoying bug with NVE2's DVD encoding is that audio will sometimes lose sync with the video by a few seconds. I'm not sure what exactly causes this or how to fix it, but I can live with it for what I'm doing. 3. Nero Cover Designer has an annoying bug in the user-defined Paper Stocks utility where you are not allowed to specify paper orientation, yet it defaults in portrait (which is useless for doing something such as a custom DVD insert stock). You can't modify the predefined stocks either. These are relatively minor problems. It was very stable, and never crashed Windows. I'm satisfied enough that I will spend the money to upgrade from 5.5 to 6.3 just for the new DVD features in NVE2. But if I was just burning CDs, VCDs, and MP3s, I'd stick with Nero 5.5. I would have given it 5/5 stars if it didn't have the audio/video sync problem.

Amazon.com Burning data and music compilation CDs is simple enough with a "drag to CD" function--you can literally drag files from Windows Explorer onto an icon that resizes in the lower right corner of the desktop. More complex burning and copying can be done through wizards or manually. For DVD authoring, Roxio includes support for every DVD burning format out there. It allows you to create movies, photo slide shows and more. It interfaces directly with digital video recorders to capture footage to the PC's hard drive, from where you can then burn them to a DVD. You can rearrange parts of a movie, trim clips, add sound, and more. The interface is functional at best, though, and casual film directors will pine for a simpler, more graceful solution than this program can offer. The PhotoSuite applet's interface is overly friendly and not nearly powerful enough. Adding photos from a networked PC was a painstakingly slow process. Worse, once we'd picked out a few dozen photos, we went to create a VCD slide show and were met with an error message that even baffled Roxio tech support. Another caveat: Easy CD automatically checks for product updates, but it forces you to register the product in order to download them. This invasion of privacy aside, Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 does provide some easy and user friendly features at the cost of clunky interfaces and limited options for power users.--Joel Durham Reviews (187)
With Creator 6 I was able to capture my video easily, add the content to the DVD Builder layout and I created a DVD with menu's that played perfectly the first time I tried. I am telling you and hope you believe me when I say, this is the easiest CD and DVD burning application available hands down. I also forgot to mention the MGI photo application that is now owned by Roxio is also bundled as well. The biggest improvement over Creator 4 and 5 is the Audio application Audio Central which lets you rip MP3's and edit the MP3 file and ID Tags which contain all the information of the file. It compares to the audio features of Microsofts media player. I strongly recommend this suite of burning products to anyone that has a digital camera, video camera, dvd player, or wants to backup or create audio CD's. This application does it all.
It is also powerful, in the sense that you can do almost anything with it. You can even cut your music, design menus for your movie DVDs and create your own covers for your CD cases. It comes with a helpful handbook that helps you deciding on wich application to use (Audio central, Creator Classic etc.). One thing it lacks is a wizard. Wizards are always nice to use and keep you self-confident that you woun't waste your DVD disk though it is quite hard even without the wizard. I didn't have any writer probelms, and I am overall happy with the product, though I think that once you buy an expensive DVD burner one has to buy an expensive program as well, though this does make burning so much easier than playing with codes and files and windows. If your looking for an powerful burner, this is what you should buy.

Amazon.com Review The program is divided into four distinct categories--Digital Media, Games, Screen Savers, and Themes--each of which may be accessed through a single, convenient graphical interface. Of these, the Digital Media component is clearly the deepest and most interesting. Its handy utilities include an MP3 audio converter for transforming disk-hogging WAV and MP3 files into space-efficient WMA format, a music playlist organizer known simply as Personal DJ, an exceedingly capable CD label maker, 20-plus Media Player skins, and three animated Media Player visualizations (including one culled from the Xbox game Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee). Music and video fans in particular will immediately gravitate to the Voice Command for Windows Media Player module, which allows users to operate most Media Player functions by issuing verbal commands into their computer microphone. Even when faced with garbled enunciation and loud background music, Voice Command faithfully recognizes commands such as "Volume Up" and "Pause." Sadly, Microsoft's seemingly innovative Speaker Enhancement tool is ultimately little more than a glorified tone control that often hinders rather than improves the sound of your speakers. Of the three games included in the package, the most intriguing is Russian Square, a deceptively addictive puzzle affair that plays like a one-dimensional offspring of Tetris and Rubik's Cube. Far less involving are the arcade bowling knock-off HyperBowl and the three-dimensional Labyrinth, a virtual take on the real-life game that involves a tilting table, metal ball, and lots of ball-gobbling holes. Eight animated screen savers and four desktop themes complete the package, the most notable of which is the stunningly lifelike and absolutely gorgeous underwater screen saver called "Aquarium." Otherwise, the program's themes and screen savers are no better than those that can be downloaded free of charge from various Web sites. With Plus! for Windows XP, Microsoft has assembled a multipronged mixture of useful and not-so-useful multimedia tools and lighthearted amenities into one easily accessible compilation. If you aren't the type to scout around the Internet for individual components and feel the need to spruce up your XP audio-video environment, it may be for you. --Gordon Goble Reviews (124)
Like screensavers? What about 3-D? How about trying 3-D Screensavers! Plus! pack will add these new screensavers onto your computer and let the fun begin as you watch fish swim in a realistic aquarium or a circus type scene play before your eyes... If you're a gamer, the bowling game is GREAT... The only problem is that it is a light edition, so to unlock its full functionality you'll have to pay! The labyrinth game is great and quite difficult to do, will keep you playing for hours! The themes are good if you use themes... Remember that space theme from ME? Its back in a revamped fashion! Also there are themes for an aquarium and some other interesting ones... Personally I don't like the themes! The new enhancements to Media Player are OK, but are not really worth the difficulty of configuring. Do you really want to give commands to your computer with your voice? Catch a cold, and this functionality won't work anyway... Overall this is an OK package, but not one that I would spend the money on. After buying this, I was sorry... I won't make the same mistake again!
Its not very functional without tonnes of MS downloads so dont buy it if you have a 56kb modem like me. I dont want to have to download a tonne of updates, I want functional out of the box. Product Activation should not be on products this cheap, its a waste of my time. I have no problem with activation on Windows and Office because theyre high value products and at least you get to try them out before activating... This though is a hassle. The digital music converion program only converts to WMA, I expect at least one alternative format such as WAV or MP3. Bad software in a pretty box.

Amazon.com Product Description Reviews (17)
The more you play around with this the more ways you can find to transfer and manipulate your images. Lately I have been grabbing images off the net, manipulating them in Paint and copy/paste them to my Stomp template. It also comes with a fairly extensive library of images, but you will find that want to move beyond them soon. I did find it easier at first to print out all the images that come with the program so that I could look at my choices without opening and closing windows. The applicator that you use to get the label onto the CD is pretty much fool proof and one of the most imporatnt aspects of creating good functional CD labels. If they go on crooked you will have problems with playback.
There are difficulties, however. First, the preferred kind of CD labels--those included with the package and made by CD Stomper--have adhesive not entirely harmonious with the Memorex brand of CD-R's. Long term, the instruction manual warns you, the adhesive may become less sticky on the Memorex CD-R's surface. Second, the software is a memory hog. You've really gotta empty your system tray before you run it. Unless you have something over 40% of system resources free, you won't be able to preview graphical elements. Worse, you may think that the graphic element is going to print, but then it doesn't, making you waste labels. When system resources drop extremely low, merely attempting to use the "insert Graphics" command will make the software crash. Repeatedly. (By contrast Corel Draw had little difficulty functioning properly in a system resource-poor environment, despite being a much more fully-functioned editing package. Clearly, this is not the world's most robust program.) Third, the software isn't so revolutionary that you care to try to re-run it after it crashes. While it makes the process of CD labeling more convenient, I'd rather just have a template to use in concert with more serious--and more stable--graphical software, like Illustrator or CorelDraw. Nothing this software does can't be done ten times better by full-featured graphic editors. And fourth, should CDs labelled with this product come into contact with moisture, the label will be adversely affected. This isn't exactly the fault of the good people at Stomp--it's symptomatic of anything printed on an inkjet printer--but it's worth mentioning that people trying to make more professional labels would be advised to choose other solutions. Now, having said all this, I would still definitely recommend the product for its intended audience. Home users will enjoy this software. Most people could probably make attractive labels within 30 minutes of installing the software. The interface *is* intuitive and convenient. The artwork included for backgrounds is in many cases actually stunning. As long as you give the software plenty of system resources to work with, and can accept the potential impermanence of your labels, you'll probably find little fault with this product.
The Website is totally useless. If you buy this completely horrible product you deserve what you get. Compusa owes me for carry such worthless junk.
Do they even bother to test their software before releasing it?? Stay away from CD Stomper! ... Read more | |

Amazon.com Product Description Included are 10 business-card CDs, 10 protective sleeves, an assortment of photo-glossy and matte labels, CD labeler software, and a label applicator for perfectly centered labels. Features Reviews (2)
This kit is a tool for marketing yourself in a dramatic professional manner. The business cards are small CD-RW blanks, which hold up to 50 MB of storage. The shape of these disks intrigued me. They have two straight sides, and two that are curved, and they are only slightly thicker than a traditional business card. Use the software that came with your CDR or any other favorite. The media does not require a specific program. The labeling software makes it simple to design professional labels. It does not support the gif file format, but jpeg works just fine. There are plastic coves to protect the cards. Included are ten blank disks and labels that can be printed either on a laser jet or an inkjet printer. I prefer the impact of color, especially since I am a writer, editor, and graphic artist. I can use the logo that I have created for myself, plus all other business card information. Business consultants can create presentations designed for a specific client; that is powerful. Incorporate a portfolio with documentation or artwork, along with information links to your web site. If you are making a presentation, show it from this disk, then hand the card to your prospective client. This is perfect for today's fast paced market. In short, you get a powerful marketing kit that relegates normal business cards to the status of quaint relics. 5 stars. Victoria Tarrani
