What an incredible value!

I was looking for easy to use products (I figured I would have to buy two products!) that would let me edit my videos and photos -- finding one package that lets me edit my videos and photos, plus rip music, burn photo and video CDs, and create CD labels is outstanding!

I hadn't even considered how quickly my photos and videos would fill up my hard drive -- being able to burn them to CD is a great way to archive and save hard drive space!

I'm also having a great time ripping and organizing my music, then creating music CDs -- something I hadn't even considered before!

All in all, this product gave me all the features I was looking for, plus much, much more!

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the best i say ...
Ok well first i wasnt to sure about this program then when i figured out how to use it it was th best. Well anyways i hope you buy this product exspecially for converting wma to mp3 or just make your files smaller. It also works good for picture editing and all that other stuff. I like this product but some people dont oh well thanks for reading and ttyl.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this product
I bought this because it was inexpensive and I don't need much for my purposes of video editing. this product, however, is horrible. It can't even meet my basis needs. I get eror messages constantly and it crashes every time I use it. This is no exageration. I have never actually exited out of the program because it always crashes on it's own. It doesn't work well with XP (which is never really mentioned anywhere). The help (both in the help menu and online) is not very helpful. No user manual was included. It was just a very bad product. Check out their online help site and you will see an abundance of negative feedback (I didn't see this until after I purchased the product and was going there to get help). I could go on for even longer about it but I won't. I don't know what else is out there, but there has to be something better than this. Even if it costs a little more it would be worth it!!

1-0 out of 5 stars OH MY GOSH......
This product stinks! I bought it to cut the weeds in my front yard...but all it does is chop carrots and some meat products. The sulution to my problem was to buy the $2,500 PhotoShop editor, it worked much better.

Really this is a GREAT product. And its well worth the [money] i spent on it.

1-0 out of 5 stars What A Waste
I bought this mostly because of the video editing section of the product... I got all excited and when i installed it, I realized there is no way to hook up my video camera to the computer. The product claims to be able to put your old home made movies on to a CD. Unless u have a video camera that has a USB port(mine doesnt), or you go out and buy one of those expensive A/V ports for ur computer, youve wasted your money. The music editing portion doesnt work with my computer because i have Internet explorer ver. 6 and i have to un-install it and download another version. I intend on taking this "video editor" back. ... Read more

Nowadays we can buy and download our music off the Net and play it instantly on our computers, completely bypassing the CD. However, almost every computer in the world has a CD-ROM drive that can also play audio CDs, and many new computers are shipping with CD-RW burners. Plus, blank CDs are under a dollar each. So, if you want to take your downloaded music to go, you can simply convert it from the downloaded MP3 file to an AIFF or WAV file, and burn that to an audio CD-format disc.

Toast has been around for years and is the benchmark application for CD burning. It works with just about every CD-R and CD-RW burner from every manufacturer, including the new USB models, and it burns almost every format: audio CDs, Macintosh data CDs, PC data CDs, enhanced music and data CDs, hybrid CDs, video CDs, etc. Many users will use Toast 4 for archiving data, as an inexpensive means of delivering content to clients, or for burning short-run or prototype multimedia CD-ROMs. But a growing market for Toast is the music crowd, especially with the explosion of MP3 music on the Web. Adaptec's Toast 4 Deluxe is CD creation and burning software for a new generation, but not without some features for the legacy crowd that worships vinyl.

Version 4 now makes it easier than ever to burn music CDs by importing (without conversion) MP3 files directly and converting them on the fly as it writes them to a CD. Now you can mix and match your favorite tunes and burn your own "best of" audio mix. Toast also includes features for extracting music tracks from commercially available audio CDs, allowing you to duplicate (for your own purposes) any CD that you own, or mix and match tracks from your favorite CDs.

As if that weren't enough, Version 4 includes the necessary cabling (a stereo connector with a pair of RCA plugs on one end and a ministereo jack on the other) for connecting the microphone jack on your computer to the output jacks on your stereo, and the software to facilitate converting from an analog source like vinyl LPs directly to audio CDs. The software, called Spin Doctor, has features for controlling input levels, balancing, cleaning up the audio by using certain filters, and viewing the waveform of the audio for keeping an eye on levels. For anyone who needs to create any type of CD, Toast rocks. --Mike Caputo ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the easy way
This is the way it ought to be. Drag your audio file on Toast and you're burning an audio CD. The only improvement that could possibly be made would be the addition of crossfading ability. Otherwise, it'll practically do anything you want with simple drag & drop! Since it easily copies mp3 and complete compact discs, you now have the unbridled option of ripping off all the musicians you love so much. Computer nerds will also love the fact that it will burn data CDs, copy your hard drive, even create hybrid CD! You'll also be able to copy your favorite video games and programs on them, giving you the unbridled option of ripping off the software makers you love so much. Other than giving you the option to be a criminal, this software is absolutely the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read the manual!
Not only will this software do much morethan I need, it does it so simply that it defies logic! The one time I had difficulty (setting up the software to run my burner) I called Adaptec - yes, I waited on hold for a while, but they were gracious and assisted me in looking up the fix for my problem in the manual! Anyone who needs to call should read first! As for the website, well, I found it easy to navigate and find what I was looking for. I simply cannot believe that people cannot figure this program out the first time through - all they need is a bit of patience and twenty minutes to read the manual before setting up! I am Adaptec for life!

4-0 out of 5 stars Does the Job
Toast does a great job burning just about any kind of sound file you could want onto CDs. After mastering the program, it is a no brainer and very straightforward. Buy CD-Rs in bulk -- packs of ten will not be enough once you start burning fever! The excellent manual is delivered in pdf format which I found difficult to manage when learning the program, so I had to print big chunks out.

However, as another reviewer mentioned, Adaptec has TERRIBLE customer support, a worse web page, and they intentionally make it difficult (or impossible) to contact them.

So, be aware that this is a very fine progam and I think the only thing like it currently on the market. But if you need any help, call your mother.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR MAC CD BURNERS
This is by far the best cd burning program I have used. It takes care of everything Mp3, Disc copy, and is very easy to use. You can even hook up turntables & tape deck and convert that to CD format. And the cable to do it with is included. If you have a burner and dont have Toast 4 Deluxe, BUY IT!

1-0 out of 5 stars No Customer Support
Toast is a good program for burning CDs, but if you can't do it all yourself, watch out. The Adaptec customer service is terrible. Not only do they not have a toll free number, but I've been on hold over an hour and had no response. If you're a computer genius, enjoy. But if you'll have questions, it looks like you're on your own. ... Read more

ver 7.0
No, this will not copy copyrighted DVDs.Pinnacle is well knowen for their infearior software. After reasearching this software, it seems to be a rework of a German developers software (I think its called Vob copy)Pinnacle was cheaper than the german ware, so I bought Pinnacle to own a disk and not download of the net. This is very buggy and hit and miss.It does not reconize my external Sony DVD burner half the time. And must reboot the computer a few times. This will happen after succesfull burning a DVD, I will have to reboot.I download the latest list of DVD burners and this did not help the problem.
Next I download the newest and greatest version 8.Now I am not having a hit or miss problem,It is just miss.Does not work at all.
One thing everyone can count on is Pinnacle dependablity.
They have releast another undependable buggy product.
What makes me mad is, I knew better than to buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Buy it, period, Great product . use it with DVD Decrpter (Free)

5-0 out of 5 stars You must know how to use this program!!!
This software is excellent. But first, you must use dvd decrypter (a free software) so you can copy your dvd to the hard drive first (even the copyrighted for backup purposes, remember that it's illegal to sell copies of copy right material). When using DVD Decrypter, choose to decrypt all files. Then use instant copy to burn the DVD, be sure to use the "customized resize" in the Copy Method of the DVD Menu, so you can take off the extra features (like subtitles, or second audio tracks...) to improve the video quality. You can actually copy all the DVD but because you're copying from a 9.4gb dvd to a 4.7gb, the image loses resolution (shrinkage process), so it's up to you, if you want all the extras or sacrifice them for a better picture. You can see the percentage of the imgae that will be kept! DVD X Copy splits the movie into 2 DVDs!
It has never crashed, and it takes like 40 minutes to burn a DVD!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not good for DVD copy
There are lot of free programs that does 100% better than this.

1-0 out of 5 stars Instant Copy Anything
I buy this software expecting that solve a basic need, Copy DVD and CD, only for my personal use (backup), when I see it, thinks, look good... But.... Oh deception, this software don't copy anything!!!!!!, any DVD, any CD, any with a copyright, on resume, anything... Is better never buy it...

If the 99.9% of the comercial software that comes on CD or DVD have copyright, means that this software can copy only the 0.1% of the existing software.... And for that any software to copy cd's can do it.

Dont take the risk, is better never buy it!. ... Read more

Data Becker's MP3 Wizard 2.0 provides a useful entry-level package for retrieving and managing music files for your MP3 player and CD burner. While it will take a little practice to learn all of the features here, this package gets the job done with a competent set of features for building a library of MP3 music effectively.

To get started with MP3, this program makes it easy to search for music on the Internet with hooks for popular MP3 search engines (such as Lycos). Once you find the right files, the MP3 Wizard opens up your browser to let you download music files to your disk drive. Besides the MP3 standard, the program reads CDA files from audio CDs and converts them into WAV files. (One thing to be aware of here is that recording quality can't be controlled within the MP3 Wizard itself. You'll need to change this under Windows settings.)

After you have your WAV files, you can add sound effects such as reverb, echo, and flange, as well as "normalize" all your files to the same dynamic range so that you don't have to adjust the volume between tracks. Of course, you'll want plenty of free disk space, memory, and a fast CPU to use this program. (A 233 MHz CPU is the minimum recommended here; the faster, the better.)

One reason to buy MP3 Wizard in particular is its support for downloading music files onto today's popular MP3 players (such as Diamond Rio). The program also supports burning custom CDs with just a click of the mouse. (Both 60- and 80-minute CD formats are supported.) Overall, for those who don't mind experimenting a little, the MP3 Wizard is a capable lower-end tool for building a personal Internet music collection. --Rich Dragan ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Basic software with a Major problem
I had used the earlier version of Mp3 Wizard which was riddled with problems (some were corrected with patches). However, 2.0 claimed to be such an upgrade from the last with the bugs all worked out. I am having the same problem as another customer, that is it will not let me fill up an 80 minute CD (as was advertised)and will continually give me error messages when I attempt to burn more than 16 or 17 songs. I have contacted the Mp3 Wizard tech support about this a few times and they have not yet offered any solutions to this problem nor have been the best at customer service. I am dissapointed in this product, especially since it was supposed to be a great improvement over the earlier version, which it is not!

2-0 out of 5 stars This program is really not worth the money.
This is a very clunky, very limited piece of software. It converts files to mp3's from pretty much any other format. But that's it. You can't edit your sound files. You can't turn mp3's into other file formats (except .wav - but you can get freeware programs that do that). The CD writing options are limited. The only good point is that the interface is spiffy-looking.

But the thing that makes me mad enough to get online and write a review is this: it won't let me completely fill my CDs. I can only use, say, 70 minutes out of an 80-minute CD or it will give me an error message. Or it will only allow me to write maybe 18 files to the disk, even if I have space left. I am very disappointed in this program and am kicking myself for buying it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work, No customer service
I primarily got this software in order to burn CDs. The only problem is that it does not recognize my CD-R/RW. I went to their websight for help, and all there was was a place to send an e-mail. Well I sent an e-mail telling Macmillian what was wrong. I didn't hear back from them so I called their tech support line, I waited on hold for TWO HOURS, and still never got through to a person. I finaly got a reply for my e-mail today, a week after I sent it, and they told me I needed to download an update. I downloaded it, but when I try to run it it says I dont have the software on my system and shuts down. This has just been one head-ache after another.

This product caused nothing but problems for me and my system from the time I unpacked it from the box. After trying to install it and hours on technical support, I had to completely format my hard drive and re-install windows to get my system up and running again. After asking for a refund from the manufacturer, I sent the software back to them..... that was 4 weeks ago, still no refund.

1-0 out of 5 stars Easy....NO WAY
I have never in my entire life used or tried to use software so poorly written..they must have been laughing outload non-stop when they came up with the term "Quality CD and DVD burning Made Easy"....Made Easy....It is probably easier to decipher the Rosetta Stone than to burn a disk using this software...tried for three hours and the results.....wrist ached....

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this is terrible product! (NO STARS)
I've bought some pretty bad software over the years, but this one is the worst! First off: the box claims "Quality CD & DVD burning made easy!" & "Effortless burning!" Well this program makes dragging & dropping files quite difficult. You can drag 30 files to burn to the disk and not all 30 seem to make it (if any make it at all). Second: Like someone else posted, it only burns DVD-RW (not an issue for me--I have no DVD burner) but it says nothing about it on the box. Third: there is no uninstall application!--That's the biggie for me. If a manufacturer doesn't supply an uninstall program, then you've just bought yourself a kind of virus, it's not worth buying. It will leave files in your PC's registery that you manually have to remove. For the inexperienced--seek help from someone who knows a lot about editing registeries. The other programs that come with this are a label-making program and a music editor. The latter would not work correctly on my three computers. Another issue I've had was burning a few data CD's with somewhat important information on it with the "Do not change filenames" option checked automatically. This means that really long filenames will not be automatically shortened so a computer or any other optical disc drive can read them--nor will a warning box pop up telling you to rename some long file names. In fact, the burning software program can't even read it after it burns it. I always hated it when I had NERO's burning software, but now I see that it's a blessing. This is a really terrible program and I wouldn't even give it away! What a waste of $40. It really is worth paying more for a more stable, well-known product. Avoid this one at all costs!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money...
This is a sad example of *not* doing your homework prior to buying software. Well, I stood at the store reading the boxes of four popular CD and DVD burning software solutions. Went back and forth... Used CD Creator in the past - it was okay. Using Microsoft Media currently - painfully slow. So, I wanted something new.

Purchased Magix CD burnR deLuxe and took it home to install on my Windows XP system. It was curious during the install that the program didn't ask for the product key. Rebooted as requested. The software wouldn't run! It disabled a few of my other media programs to boot. I attempted to uninstall the software and it wouldn't uninstall. Long painful story short, I manually uninstalled it and had to search the registry to get my system stable again. Reinstalled the software and it finally worked.

It will copy your music CDs to your computer (WAV format) but cannot retrieve the CD title or track names from the net like all the other software out there. It'll slowly burn you a copy of a CD while you watch a DOS window tracking your progress. Still haven't figured out how to make custom images since the manual (both on-line and paper) lacks detail. I could go on but why bother? Just don't buy this product and save yourself a lot of grief.

One last note... if you want to call for support, keep your credit card handy. Phone support is $3 for the first minute and $1.50 for each additional minute. And, just as the previous reviewer mentioned, the on-line support area is down.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this software.
I, like many others, have a SoundBlaster card. Cakewalk has numerous problems with SoundBlaster. It took me two hours to figure out how to just get some sound out of Cakewalk. I recorded a ten second vocal test but it wouldn't play back, nothing came out. Turns out there's some deeply embedded setting you have to change in the software that you can only figure out after hours of searching through online chat-rooms.

The metronome doesn't work through the speakers, it only comes out of the PC's internal speaker or MIDI. Being a musician I have no need for MIDI.

I'm a 16-year techie who happens to also be a musician. This is one of the worst pieces of software I have used in my entire adult life. If you're a musician who just wants to sit down, press record, play some music, stop, play it back, tweak it a little, add more tracks, etc....sounds simple right? Don't buy this software. You will be screaming at the top of your lungs for a whole day and then putting it on eBay in an attempt to try and recoup the $150 you just spent on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
First off, this is a great package. If you know all the details and you just want to know what someone who has actually used it thinks, I love it, and I recommend it completely. But everyone has different needs, so Home Studio XL isn't the perfect package for everyone.

If you're a total novice and you want to get started learning how to make music on your computer, Home Studio is a good, powerful, diverse package. On the other hand, you will probably look at all the stuff on the screen when you open it for the first time and be absolutely stumped about how to get it to play music. There are some tutorials in the manual and online help that will get you started. Even better, there's a full-featured downloadable demo from (with save disabled) that will allow you to try before you buy. If you want to see what you're getting into before you spend your money, try the demo.

If you're trying to figure out what you can do in Home Studio, it does just about everything you're likely to need. Build music out of loops, record your own audio tracks, compose your own music, add effects to the tracks -- Home Studio does it. Both Home Studio and XL come with a good general-purpose software synthesizer (Virtual Sound Canvas) that can sound like a whole orchestra of good-quality instruments, and XL comes with the Dyad DXi sampler which allows you to play any sampled sounds in the SoundFont format. XL comes with a good starter library of SoundFonts, and there are literally thousands of SoundFonts available free on the internet. Home Studio also comes with a good library of effects -- reverb, chorus, EQ, delay, etc. -- and XL comes with some nice extras. For people who know their way around recording, the dynamics processing tools (compressor, limiter, etc.) will be really useful, and the SpectraFX channel processor allows you to add several different effects to a number of tracks (with individual settings for each track) without overloading your processor. The other nifty toy is the full version of AmpSim (the basic HomeStudio has AmpSim Lite), which allows you to process your tracks through the sound of an overdriven (or fuzzy, or other effects) ampilfier. If you want to toughen up your tracks, AmpSim is a very nice tool. Both versions of Home Studio also come with DreamStation, a good basic analog-style synth where you can adjust the controls to create a good variety of synthesized sounds. You can also buy a wide variety of third-party synths and FX to plug into Home Studio using DXi.

For me, the Dyad sampler alone justified the extra price, because I have a lot of SoundFonts, and I wanted to be able to create a more versatile array of sounds than a Sound Canvas can generate on its own -- custom drum kits, sounds of specific synthesizers, a different acoustic bass. Still, if the $50 is a deal-breaker, the basic Home Studio already comes with a terrific array of features. If you change your mind, you can always upgrade.

If you are mostly looking at other budget software, it's hard to go wrong with Home Studio. The looping features are at least as good as Acid, and they're as easy to use. And it has all of the other features that give it a lot more power and versatility than Acid. There's only two reasons I can think of to buy anything other than Home Studio: you're a student for whom even $100 is an impossible amount of money to spend, or you want something that has fewer features and an easier learning curve. If either of these is the case Plasma, Music Creator, or Guitar Tracks might get the job done, depending on what set of features you need. However, except for a couple of stray plug-ins, Home Studio has all the features of all of these programs put together, plus some more besides, so you may find yourself upgrading before long.

The one other caveat is that if you work primarily in guitar, I think Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro is a better choice. While the AmpSim effect is pretty nice for casual use, if you're doing serious guitar work, ReValver has a lot more power to give you the amp sound you're looking for. You can buy GT Pro and upgrade to the full version of Revalver (Cakewalk has a discount) for about the price of Home Studio XL, and that's probably going to work better for you. If you want the other features of Home Studio but also do guitar work, AmpSim isn't bad, but you may end up buying ReValver as an add-on.

One last category of people that I recommend Home Studio for is people who spent most of their money on an expensive pro-grade package and are looking for an affordable sequencer to use it with. For example, Home Studio is ideal to host Reaktor synthesizers (or any other high-end soft-synths) using DXi. It supports 96/24 audio, high-quality MIDI sequencing, control automation, and everything else you need to get the most out of a really nice softsynth. One warning: if you want to use VST-only synths or effects, you'll have to get a VST adapter (there's a free one with limited power, and several that you can purchase), since Home Studio doesn't support VST natively. Alternatively, if you bought an integrated softstudio like Reason or Project5, but you need a sequencer that can record its own audio and play it back alongside the softstudio tracks, Home Studio will integrate using ReWire and do the job perfectly. However, if you're integrating it with pro-grade packages, you may only want the basic version of Home Studio, because if you have effects and synths that cost you hundreds of dollars, the ones you get with the XL upgrade may not be all that useful. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars NOT EXACTLY A PRO
I was VERY dissapointed with this product. Every CD I tried to burn had a coaster or failed withought a warning on my computer. I have used other bad products before, so I bought this one hoping it would be better than the others.. but I was heavily dissapointed. Never judge a book by it's cover.. or in this case, never judge a BURNER by it's name. I have done the burning process many times before this, and I was shocked at how easy it was at first, but then during the copying of my files and other complications of CD's, I was shocked by how my computers responded to the product. I think that you should spend your money on something worth the dough... and not something that could be better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep looking for something better!
After trying this software, I am left frustrated and maddened. I've had a 20% success rate with writing to CDs. This program frequently terminates with error windows. Often it just locks up the computer with no warning. My pile of wasted CD-Rs has grown to the point that I have practically given up this part of the hobby. Good luck with whatever OTHER CD writer software you buy.

Beleive all the good things written about this product! I had several problems with the bundled software that came with my HP CD Writer (8220E with "My CD" and "Direct CD" software). I have a Compaq laptop with a 475mhz AMD processor, not exactly the greatest, but more than sufficient for my needs. The bundled software had a 50/50 chance of making a usable CD, errors regarding 'defective CD' kept popping up in the middle of the burn destroying the disc. Tried receiving support through HP and like everyone else says, no help at all. I even borrowed a friends Adaptec CD Creator and was disappointed with the software-just too much ... and I still made coasters!! Finally read all the good things about "Click and Burn Pro" and decided to buy it. AWESOME, have not made a coaster yet in the 2 weeks I've used it to burn copies of CD's, mixed CD's, and data CD's. The interface is very easy to use and the software configures your write speed for best results (you could also set everything manually to customize your way). You will not be disappointed with this product. The only downside is that if you let the sofware configure your write speed it bumps it down causing longer burns, but like I said NO COASTERS!!! Also comes with a stomper and CD labeler software that's just as easy to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars All the important stuff, none of the hassle
Was a satisfied user of Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 3.5b, wanted .mp3 support. Came that close to buying ECDC Deluxe 4.0 during a rare price drop to $50 with rebate, but got spooked by lots of scary reviews on this site detailing major system attacks and low product support from Adaptec/Roxio. Also had previously purchased Adaptec's Soundstream and was dissatisfied with low functionality. Got CnB Pro 1.5 for the same 50 bones (er...from based on favorable reviews on this site. Installed in 2secs with no trouble (WinMe on AMD K6-2, HP 8210e CDRW), ran the tests on my drives (very informative), set up a Audio CD job using multiple sources (.mp3, .wav, multiple Audio CDs). Very straightforward, no quirks. Documentation (manual) is comprehensive and detailed; good plaintalk explanation of CD-R lingo. Simple startup menu for novices and quick simple job setup; plenty of advanced functionality in the full application, but only if you want it. Comes with complete version of CD Stomper label making software (with label applicator and blank labels), which I haven't used yet. Checked out the website - very useable, downloaded a $10 rebate (nice surprised!) and a current update to CnB Pro 1.5 (24Jan01, someone must still be there). Doesn't have CDDB audio CD recognition interface, a negative but not a dealbuster. Extracts audio from CDs, but only to .wav - no .mp3 compression. Wouldn't run the recorder self-test on my CDRW, maybe because it's USB. Bottom line: All the functionality you need to burn and label any kind of CD without all the extra frills and - more importantly - all the hassles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dynamite!
This has to be the easiest and best featured MP3 program I have tried. After trying the Data Becker MP3 "Trash Your Computer" Wizard, I was very hesitant to try anything else. But I did try several. Some programs were ok, but none compared to this one. Ease of use, excellent features and affordability makes this a great buy for me. I highly recommend Click'n Burn for novices and more experienced users alike. Way to go Stomp! ... Read more
