4-0 out of 5 stars Works fine for me
I've been using this product for about a year to label discs and have been happy with it. I bought it new, and everything indicated was included in the box. Easy to use, lots of neat graphics.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading and Mediocre
Only two labels, not 20. Also, the package says there's an "enclosed jewel case" which there is not. Finally, the software doesn't do anything unique or valuable that isn't available better and/or better value elsewhere. In short, not a product to be bothered with.

1-0 out of 5 stars Data Becker CD Label Maker
There are only 2 cd labels in this package and the process for attaching labels is the worst design that I have witnessed to date. If it were free it would still not be worth the shipping cost.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading Description
I thought I was getting a deal with this package. Instead, I have two CD labels (not twenty) and a CD with software that can be downloaded from the web. If it weren't for the ... rebate, I would have demanded a refund.

1-0 out of 5 stars MP3 Wizard 3.0 Error Message Parade
I bought the Wiz and it does not work on Windows XP. When I fist installed it it gave me a couple error flags. First was it couldn't see my burner and the second was "run time error 680, DAC not initialized". On the Data becker site they offer a few patches to solve the problems. Unfortunately, they only solved one. My burner is now seen but "run time error 680..." is still stopping the program from running. I sought tech advice from Data Becker but they don't respond.
My recommendation: Don't buy this if you're using XP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
A big waste of ... The most confusing and frunstrating interface and software program I've come across in a long time. Run, don't walk to look for other alternatives!

1-0 out of 5 stars Sad waste of 19.99
Of the things it claims to do, I couldn't find one that I couldn't download FAR superior as freeware.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed...
When it comes to ripping CDs into MP3 files, I'm a nut about getting the best sound quality possible. My old MusicMatch program only goes up to 160kps, so I was hoping to find a cheap program that would enable me to create MP3 files in the 200 range or above. MP3 Wizard IS NOT IT. There were no reviews for the MP3 Wizard, and I was a little hesitant to order it. But since Data Becker's MP3 Editor had great reviews, I thought their Wizard would be up to the task. I received the box in the mail earlier this week, opened it up and found a lone CD-ROM. No manuals, no flyers, no nothing, just a CD in a plastic sleeve. I thought that was odd. I installed the software, and woah...it is the most UN-user-friendly program I've ever seen! I guess the programmers tried so hard to make it look "hi-tech" they didn't realize how confusing it was. I consider myself a very computer literate person, but I was struggling for two days to figure the MP3 Wizard out. And when I opened up the help menu, some of the words are in a different language (German?), which totally threw me off. But the instructions are indeed in English. Salvation? Nope. The help menu didn't help me anyway. So now I have an open software product sitting on my desk that I wish I could return, but I know I'm stuck with. Anybody know any good programs to rip CDs into 200-and-above-range MP3 files? Because MP3 Wizard is not it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Steinberg's Get it on CD 2.0 offers an all-in-one solution for digital audio editing and CD burning. With a clean, no-nonsense interface, simple controls, and a low learning curve, the ability to tweak custom audio creations and preserve the sounds on CD is a breeze. With that said, only those who plan on editing sound files before burning CDs should consider this package. Those looking for a one-click CD-creation program may find the enhanced features a bit too distracting for their needs.

When the program launches, an assistant dialog box offers four choices: create an audio CD, create a data/mixed media CD, grab audio from a CD, or convert files to MP3 or Windows Media Audio (WMA) file format. The audio CD-creation mode offers the best and worst attributes of a combined audio file editor and CD burner. In many CD burning programs, loading playlists and kick-starting the burning process takes only moments. When one adds files into the playlist window in Get it on CD, each track is automatically loaded into a WAV editor window, meaning you must wait for each waveform to load, whether or not you plan on editing the files. If you're simply duplicating a CD, the wait is not a welcome one. On the other hand, adding fades, tweaking volume levels, and applying a myriad of effects is incredibly easy and nicely handled by the program. The range of clear, natural-sounding effects includes chorus, echo, reverb, time stretch, pitch shifting, and quite a few others, all easily applied in real time.

Transferring files to MP3 or WMA format is as simple as it should be, rounding out an impressive music-processing package. As mentioned, if you're looking for a no-hassle, one-click CD-burning program, you may want to search elsewhere. After all, no use letting all of the music processing power offered in this program go to waste. --Eric Twelker ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

While the CD continues to dominate the musical landscape, the relevanceof vinyl LPs and 7-inch singles has hardly diminished for diehard collectors. With this reality in mind, Steinberg created Clean! Plus 2.0. With sonic filterslike noise, hiss, pop, and crackle removal, you have the ability to clean upyour dusty records. Additionally, Steinberg has designed an excellent phonopreamp that cleanly boosts the signal from your turntable to your computer.

Clean! Plus installs smoothly, and the user interface is easy to navigate. Theprogram can import all kinds of source material, including LPs, CDs, WAV and MP3files, and any audio source that can plug into your PC's sound card iscompatible.

Once the imported material shows up as a stereo waveform graphic, the fun andcreativity begin. You'll find the same familiar control buttons--stop, play, rewind, and fast-forward--that are on your stereo components, and you can usethese to shuttle the waveform back and forth. The real-time sound processors arestraightforward and simple to use, plus they sound excellent.

Other great tools in Clean! Plus 2.0 include fade-in/out and cross-fadecapabilities, a simple wave editor called WaveLab Lite (based upon Steinberg'saward-winning WaveLab), and a very cool tool called the Surround Module. Thisconsists of a circular window like a scope, with four speakers around a centerimage of a head--the listener. When you click and drag each of the speakers tonew angles in relationship to the head this simulates a surround environment, and creates the perception of different listening spaces.

Audiophiles will fall in love with Clean! Plus 2.0, which is well worth theprice. It's a wonderful tool to preserve and enhance our beloved musiccollections and bring all that music back into our CD players. --JohnBosch ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars adequate
Clean is time consuming if you only have 400 Mhz. I upgraded to 1.8 gig and it's better. I lerned to clean whole cassettes or entire albums and splitting the tracks afterwards. Wave Lab Lite works very well. I have had no trouble importing WAV files, but only about 50% of mp3 files can be worked on. In which case I burn the CD and re-extract. More wasted time. When I upgrade I intend to do away with WAV altogether and edit mp3 files only.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good filtering but otherwise lousy
Since Amazon was out of stock, I bought this directly from Steinberg. I don't know if it's due to my use of Windows XP or some other defect, but I've got quite a few problems with the product. The cleaning function works very well - I'm quite pleased by it, but the import and editing functions don't work very well, if at all. I frequently get a "must be 7 seconds or longer" error, even for very long tracks. Under no circumstances will it import WAV files created by it's sister product, Wavelab Lite, which came bundled with Clean! I am still waiting to hear from Steinberg as to why this is. It gives me the same error when I try to use the automated function to split a "side" into separate tracks. I've had to resort to using a Cakewalk utility to record, Clean! to process and back to the Cakewalk software to split into separate tracks. The CD-RW that I have is also not supported, I believe due to XP. Several other products will not write to the CD-RW. I've had no trouble with the pre-amp - it works quite well, but I had to find a way to attach the turntable ground to the ground of the pre-amp in order to eliminate 60Hz hum.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great tool!
The product does not hold your hand with Wizards, but it allows you to create lean copies of LPs and Tapes. Well worth the money. Lots of control over how the recordings sound, but some people may be overwelmed. Great product!

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm sure it's a good product when it actually works...
I bought this for my boyfriend recently because he really wants to copy his LPs to our computer to make mix cds. He still can't get the pre-amp to work, so he tried calling support - they kept him on hold and then told him that that they cannot help him until he registers the product. There is no online product registration, you have to do it by regular mail. The documentation TOTALLY (...), as does the online "help" files. Hopefully when they get his registration we can get some technical help. I wish I hadn't bought this product, but it was the only thing I could find to copy LPs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Program..well worth the price

Amazon.com Review

Once you start building up a large collection of digital media, it gets hard to manage it all. SmartDisk MVP collects your media files into albums and allows you to keep track of all your digital pictures, videos, and music in one place, making it easy to browse, print, or burn them to CD. Whatever type of file you're working with, the interface is the same and you can add all new files to SmartDisk's album's, automatically ready to label, search, browse as thumbnails, print out, or burn onto a Video CD that can be played on many DVD players.

SmartDisk MVP comes with a handy bundle of extras to make the most of your files and newly burned CDs. FotoCanvas is a simple image editing package with a red-eye filter and other tools for fixing problems with your photos. PowerDVD lets you play back Video CDs (and DVDs) on your PC, and the Neato CD labeling kit lets you print labels and apply them to your CDs.

The only limitation with this software is that you have to record an entire CD at one time (Disk At Once) rather than being able to record files onto a CD-RW in batches (packet writing). But if you don't need that functionality, SmartDisk MVP is a simple way to keep tabs on your media files and make Video CDs that can be enjoyed on TV and PC. --Mary Branscombe, Amazon.co.uk ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Would not unistall!
Got to a state where it would not install cleanly or uninstall. I bought it at Best Buy and they would not take it back or trade for another brand. I do not recommend the software or Best Buy because of their return policy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I had hoped
It took a month of frustration before they came out with a patch that finally got things going for me. Once I burned my first DVD it took several tries before I finally figured out how to view the pictures with my DVD player.

I wish they would add a feature to add narration. Also you are limited to only one music file to play in the background.

4-0 out of 5 stars It Works!
This product was bought in desperation because I had promised family that I would send them a VCD of my kid's performance at a school event. I had bought and tried to use "Click-n-Burn", but the resulting CD would not even play correctly on computer and was not recognized in any DVD play we tried.

I bought MVP on the recommendation of one of the reviews of "Click-n-Burn" who had similar problems. When I installed MVP, my PC give a similar GPF described by another reviewer. It was quickly resolved by looking at the "Details" of the GPF and seeing that it was caused by the video driver. The program ran fine after updating the driver.

The MVP software is easy to use and provides a very powerful interface. The wizard enabled me to make my first VCD in under a half-hour!

My only complaint is that the menu displayed on the DVD player has the MVP logo. It can probably be removed, but I haven't actually read the manual yet.

I highly recommend this product!

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea......BUT too many bugs
I had great hopes for this product when I first purchased it. The idea is great: the abilty to organize all your multimedia in one convenient place, burn it to a CD to watch on your computer, etc. However, I received error messages from the start...regarding page faults....shutting down the program unexpectedly, freezing while burning....even though I met all system requirements. I called support, who were no help. I gave the software a chance...returned it once hoping it was just a one time bug....no luck...Unfortunately, I'll be returning the second copy for the last time. Smartdisk is on the right track....just need to work the kinks out of it first!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally cd burner software that does everything it says!!!
We have searched everywhere for software that would allow us to view our photographs on tv. With MVP, we have found it. This software is so easy to use,I would have to say it is idiot proof. We had two questions, and the tech support folks were ,surprise, very knowledgible, pleasant and correct in their advice. Just be sure that your dvd player supports the VCD format and sit back and enjoy. Be aware that very few sales people will know what you are talking about when you ask for players that support VCD. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY POOR SOFTWARE
Yep, this one sucks. Zilcho technical support. And it simply doesn't work for the things it should work for. Dude, just for the hell of it I just checked their support site to make sure my question was not answered before submitting this review... there's actually no record of it now. Yay for a total scam!!!

At least I didn't pay for it. But buying software that actually works will really eat into the money I saved buying this DVD burner. Lesson learned. To be more specific... I have yet to successfully burn ANY DVD which is then subsequently readable. The drive does function well within the XP environment however... it can read cds just fine for instance.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disasterous tech Support and Crippling CopyProtection Scheme
This is a real shame - this software "could have been great".

Pros:
1.) "idiot proof" will copy a non protected (non CSS) dvd to a new blank DVD, shrinking it before doing so, so as to be able to fit on the smaller 4.7 GB writable DVD's. Will take HOURS to do this.

Cons:
1.) tech support is almost literally non existant. Write them an email (I did) and get an automated response saying they now have extended phone support via a toll free line. Call the toll free line and get referred to a toll line. Call that toll line, get told that they are only open till 5 PM. Call back the 800 (toll free line) and get directed by there sales force to email them, so that you can get another automated email telling you to call till 11:45PM EST. Bottom line - if you have a day job that precludes your calling them during 9-5 and waiting in the cue - forget it. This happened to me.
2.) Software purchased "in the box" is recently largly defective, but pinnacle has not acknowledged this, nor done anything to fix it. I have an unusable disc - wasted $$
3.) Freeware and shareware available easily is actually vastly better. I would specifically recomend DVD shrink which is freeware to shrink your ripped DVD file down to size. DVD Shrink will do in 15 minutes what Pinnacle takes 4+ hours to do, and DVD shrink will do a dramatically better job.
4.) The program "Alcohol 120%" offers vastly better disc/drive emulation capabilities.
To really understand this stuff, check out one of the discussion boards such as www.afterdawn.com. Alternatively, if you want a shrink and burn program thats really simple and actually works - check out Intervideo DVD copy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother!
Okay, As I'm typing this review, MusicMatch is chewing away, trying to organize my modest library of 1400 songs. It won't abort, it won't display, but it's chewing away on the contents of my music directory, and I can feel another memory error in the works. It has already crashed twice.

Once it choked on a bad file with a checksum error. Yeah, I would expect it to hiccup on a bad file, but not take down XP. I have about 100 programs on my computer (don't ask) and nothing has ever taken down XP except this program.

I feel like an idiot for having paid for this ridiculous pile of crap when MS MediaPlayer does largely the same job for free.

Don't make my mistake.

1-0 out of 5 stars just terrible !!!!
I have a Dell xps with 1024 ram, windows XP pro and 120 GB. I installed musicmatch pro and it immediately disable my Nec 1100a read and write drive. I tried to enable the driver through my "Device Manager" (which showed my read and write drive disable), and when I tried to I got error message that there was a program conflict and windows could not enable the drive. I sent a e-mail to tech support two days ago and still have not heard back.
The only other product I have that uses the drive is Roxio 7.
I have uninstalled musicmatch professional and used the windows "restore" to get my computer back to where it should be.

My advice is to stay away from this product because of conflicts that may arise and the piss-poor tech support !!!!!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Macmillan's Digital CD Recording Studio II attempts, in many ways, to beeverything to everyone. Been meaning to put all of those LPs onto CD once andfor all? How about converting those cassettes (or, gasp--eight tracks!) to thedigital realm? Maybe you're not interested in buying an extra player for yourthousands of megabytes of MP3 files. In any case, Digital CD Recording Studio IIcan manage your musical assets efficiently.

You'll be working in a familiar three-pane environment: file structure at left, file contents in the center, and options and selections at right. The toolbarwill give you direct access to everything from creating a new play list, torecording from an analog audio source, to converting MP3 data, to processingrecordings.

Begin with your average playlist. The summary box keeps you up to speed on totalnet playing time versus total playing time with silent, between-song gaps, plusavailable CD-R space and time.

For those who are concerned with improving the quality of your recordings (and, who isn't, when we're talking about upgrading the analog to the digital?), youwon't want to miss the PlayInfo panel, which measures instantaneous volume peaksin decibels. The Producer panel is another cool feature that sports a range ofprocessing options. Other noteworthy features include:

  • Declicking and Dehissing functions, which let you clean up recordings. Youcan adjust easily the sensitivity to small noise pulses and the reduction ratefor hissing that's caused by contact, such as the needle on the record.
  • A full-service equalizer, which allows you to adjust the frequency ofindividual bands. You'll have also a number of equalizer presets at yourfingertips, which offer standard equalization options, such as Flat, Bass Cut,and Treble Boost.
  • Fade In/Fade Out options, which let you get an even intro or closing to yourrecording, adjusting from 20 milliseconds to 20 seconds.
  • Also, you'll be able to preview your handiwork on the Preview panel. Evenbetter, if your machine has a little power behind it, you can make adjustmentswhile playing, which allows a truly on-the-fly adjustable environment.

In order to use other devices along with Digital CD Recording Studio II, you'llneed to update the appropriate sound card settings and get the right hardware, which usually consists of a stereo patch cable, or "Y" cable. Once you're setup, you'll be able to record from this source through the software, unpack thelarge recording file into individual tracks, clean up your recording, andproduce your CD--all with relative ease.

Recording through this package allows you to record in stereo or mono, and youcan choose a range of sampling (from 11.025 kHz to 44.1 kHz). You also canrecord radio programs at any time, whether you're present or not--the TimerRecording function does this with reliability.

Digital CD Recording Studio II also handles the more contemporary formats of CDand MP3 with relative proficiency. After you wade through numerous warnings oncopyright infringement, you'll find yourself able to select easily any of theWAV files on your average audio CD for recording. Likewise with MP3: you'll beable to convert the MP3 format into WAV files, thus making your music portableand readily accessible for your computer, stereo, Discman, or office boom box.--Emilie Dirks ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Solid program
Program was easy to load and operates very smoothly. Service and shipment by JB Software was very timely. Thanks Bobby

4-0 out of 5 stars I like this program a lot
This is a lot more powerful then easy cd creator, which came on my compaq. I can do almost anything I want to the .wav file I want, except actually take data out of the wave file. For that, I found a shareware program on CNET, SoundGadget. Occasionally I run across a cd that this won't copy, and I use easy cd creator, which does copy it. There is a very good label printing program included.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is the WORST
This is the worst product I can ever recall purchasing (and I am not limiting myself to computer related purchases).

I have a 650 Mhz Pentium 3-based laptop and I have never seen software do to a computer what this did to mine. It continually crashed my system again...and again...and again. Each time I had to let my laptop's battery completely discharge. Then I would reboot the system before I could gain any measure of control over it. Why did I keep trying? I guess I must like pain; I didn't realize it until now, but I must.END

4-0 out of 5 stars Burning Bliss
The Digital CD Recording Studio 2.0 was one of the best systems I've ever used for burning. Their instruction manual was informative while not being boring. Their customer help was also nice. This system makes burning a breeze while still not being over priced. I would recomend this to anyone that wanted a great CD burner. ... Read more
