No Terminal Services In This Edition
Be forewarned if you are wanting to use this as an application server. The Terminal Services included in this edition are limited to two users and will NOT run in Application Mode. Microsoft claims this limited for security purposes, but you can do this on their full blown product, so I think it is more for $ purposes (they want more). As far as the product goes, the value is pretty good. You get an Exchange server, POP3 mail connector (this distributes email from a POP3 account to the proper Exchange account), fax sharing software, and Outlook 2003. Safe surfing for life?
I bought this software as I was getting more and more worried about the threat of viruses infecting my home PC. My workplace has always used McAfee and I had always found it very easy to use and we have had no problems with viruses so far. So I invested in McAfee at home. After a few niggles installing the Virus Scan and the Firewall Plus I must say I am very pleased. The software runs quietly on my PC, only alerting me if anything suspicious happens and the Firewall blocks tens of events entering my PC everyday. The Security Center has a full analysis of what exactly has been blocked from your PC so you can investigate further if you wish. If you value your PC, like me, you really do need to protect it and this software is a good place to start.

Don't buy McAfee - look elsewhere!
I purchased this McAfee Kit that included both Personal Firewall and VirusScan to run on my WinXp P4, 512 system from a physical store (one of those fantastic discount warehouses) The software NEVER worked!

I installed the software from the disk as instructed; however, as soon as I went online it started attempting to verify my subscription. This process never worked; no matter what actions I took the product never appeared on my online MyAccount page and therefore never functioned as designed.

I contacted the McAfee online help desk which quickly informed me that they would only be able to resolve this issue over the phone.To my surprise (disgust) this phone help service is a PAID service.That's right, you need to pull out your credit card and pay just to talk to a help desk associate in some far off land.As a sucker that I am, I paid for a block of time to attempt to resolve this installation issue. It was like throwing good money after bad.This support desk promised emails back and never sent.Then on subsequent calls they promised call backs; which also never happened. After spending $30 on support calls I gave up!

I have serious doubts about this company as they DO NOT STAND behind their products.I suggest you look elsewhere when looking to secure your computer.

Also, don't get lured in by the promised rebates.After 5 months I am still waiting!!!

Beware of McAfee Internet Security Suite 2005
I purchased Internet Suite 2005 as an upgrade to 2004 - which incedentally worked very well. The same can not be said for the 2005 version. I have never come across a piece of software that is so unready for general release. The un-install is flawed and losses all previous settings. The software is full of bugs and inconsistances for which I have been on the phone for approx 2 hrs to attempt to fix (insist tha McAfee phone you back to save the £1 per minute charge)- e.g. - parms lost on update, permissions issues for XP sub users, un-install of previous versions does not work correctly leaving bits of the previous version arround causing problems with the install and the update of your registration - result - product can potentially unregister itself at the end of life of the previous version. Shredder does not work correctly - script errors. One of their fix instructions is to turn off the firewall and download a fix - so putting your pc at risk while the download occurs! I could go on and on. I'm sure they will update and produce fixes but at present the product, in my view, posses a risk.

Works fine, but
Works fine for me and I am not very computer literate. Much better than my Norton, which I couldn't get to work right and had to uninstall. [...] I was plunged into a Kafkaesque nightmare of paperwork after sending in what I thought was exactly what they wanted, and am about to give up and kiss the thrity bucks goodbye.

Works until your run into a problem.
I would give them0 stars if it weren't because I don't have that choice.
I got their yearly subscription and used the product for more than a year without any major problem, except for minor annoyances.
Since the past week I am not able to verify my subscription because of a bug in their "subscription verify system".
The worst part is that their technical support is clueless and they will ask customers to do manual uninstalls and play around with the registry, which is really scary.
At this point I am considering removing the product, cancelling my subscription, and moving to another virus scanner and personal firewall.
Too bad that McAffee does not provide a better customer support, and for basic and necessary products such a virus scanner and firewall they should pay more attention , just having a chat support and a forum is not good enough if they are no effective. The Best
I first bought the Enigma's Spy Hunter, but its performance was so disappointing plus poor support that I gave it away. On the other hand Spyware , blocks spyware in real time, has the biggest definitions list of spywares, fast scanning with remaining time, good support, inexpensive that was the best choice.

If you want the best this is it.

Quick and Easy to Use
This product requires no effort to use. It installs quickly and is immediately ready to sweep through your files. On the initial sweep through, it corrected a serious problem caused by adware. When it reviewed the files on my kids computer, it identified 24 adware and similar programs that had been installed with some of the web packages my kids use. The programs are quarantined for now but both our computers are finally working the way we need them to.

A good product just got better
Spysweeper by Webroot is now at version 3.0.

The good news........Webroot provided me with V3 under their
ONE YEAR of free upgrades AND updates.

Version 2 was good, but version 3 has a lot of cool new features, like all the new "shields".

So, when some Mal-ware program tries to change your browser home-page, an alert comes up and asks you if you authorized such a change.

Other shields include a HIJACK shield, IE tracking, IE favorites.

One especially neat one is the STARTUP ITEMS shield.
Before a program becomes a startup item, this shield pops up and asks you for authorization.

NOTE 1 : At this point in time, no single anti-spyware product appears to protect you from ALL potential mal-ware threats.
In fact, I have 4 different, FULL VERSION, products.
I alternate between these 4 programs almost daily.

There is a major amount of detection overlap but not a COMPLETE overlap. Each of the 4 programs finds stuff that the others didn't.

NOTE 2: I've debated folks in newsgroups about mal-ware detection s/w. Several folks comment that since there are FREE s/w packages, so why would anyone PAY for s/w?

First of all, remember, no single package detects every s/w threat out there (that I am aware of).

IMHO, the most indepth ones are NOT free s/w packages.
However, the freeware ones are good to an extent.

As for my personal PC's security, I use the following s/w packages: 1 firewall, 1 virus-scanner and 4 anti-spyware packages.

NOTE 3: Watch out for wolves in sheep's clothing!

There are several "self-proclaimed" ANTI-spyware packages that actually INSTALL mal-ware onto your pc! You in fact, are shooting yourself in the foot by installing such programs.

Well worth the upgrade from the free version.
I first used the free version of Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE, and found it did a great job finding and removing ad-ware and spy-ware.The trouble was, I would find new spy-ware following each visit to the web.

By purchasing the "Plus" version, you get an additional feature, "Ad-Watch".Ad-Watch runs in the background similarly to an antivirus program.It stops ad-ware and spy-ware before they have an opportunity to work.Without Ad-Watch, any spy-ware or ad-ware will be active until you run Ad-Aware to remove it.

I still run Ad-Aware on occasion, but by allowing Ad-Watch to run, I have yet to find any spy-ware that has installed itself.Ad-Watch busts it before it has an opportunity to install and run.I enthusiastically recommend this product.

Very Good Real Time Spyware and Adware Protection
I own McAfee Internet Security Suite 2004 but I purchased the stand alone version of this McAfee AntiSpyware 2005 program even though basically the same program is bundled as part of the "Privacy Service Program" with McAfee Internet Security Suite 2004 v6.0 . I did not want to use the Privacy Service program at all so I figured this would work best for me. I also decided could also easily use this as a stand alone program in the future along with another company's antivirus program such as Symantec's Norton Antivirus.

This McAfee Antispyware program is very simple to use and it seems to work well. You can open up the program's display properties anytime and monitor its activity and you will see it working as it scans web pages in real time as you browse using Internet Explorer. You can also schedule system wide scans and it has customizable controls so you can enable trusted spyware or adware programs not to be blocked. The biggest drawback is that it does not automatically detect and remove tracking cookies. Its main advantage is realtime scanning and blocking of spyware and adware. Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware (basic) are both free to download and work very well also however those programs do not auto update and they don't do essential real time scanning to stop the spyware before it infects your computer. Spybot does have an immunize feature that helps block a pre-set number of common spyware/adware programs but this list is static while McAfee's program uses dynamic scanning with the latest automatically updated spyware/adware detections.

I would recommend you use all three antispyware programs. Download Spybot and Ad-Aware for free and also install McAfee Antispyware 2005 for real time scanning. In this age of spyware, adware, trojan horses, tracking cookies etc. you can't be too safe. I would also recommend a good firewall like Zone Alarm 4.x or the even more feature rich Zone Alarm Pro 4.x ( Zone Alarm 4 with internet cookie, popup, and privacy controls) . Use a good Antivirus program such as McAfee 2004, Norton 2003, PC-Cillin 2004, or Kaspersky.

One more highly rated antispyware program you might want to look at is Webroot's SpySweeper which has all the realtime scanning features of McAfee along with tracking cookie detection. SpySweeper is a seasoned antispyware program known to have one of the highest spyware/adware/tracking-cookie detection rates among all the anti-spyware programs. Although the McAfee Antispyware 2005 is still relatively new to the antispyware game compared to other programs, I would expect this recently released McAfee software to continue to improve this year as this program auto-updates itself with more advanced features and enhanced spyware detections. ...
