2-0 out of 5 stars Guard Dog 2.0 (as part of McAfee Office)
I have used Guard Dog as bundeled in McAfee Office Utilites CD-Rom,(DiscClean Up,Defragmenting Hard Drive and etc.) if you have these same utiliteson your PC ( as part of Windows) then don't by this product, just get GuardDog, as they can cuase conflicts with existing programs and take up a lotof space( if you only have 32mb of RAM) and if PC is Y2K Compliant/Readyand you don't need E-Mail security(only works if the persons you send mailto have the same security program) then you don't need McAfee Office. Theversion of Guard Dog that is in this suite of utilitys is 2.0. I have usedwith some succes but do to some problems occuring in Windows I.E. causingme to have to reload my Ops system from the Mfg.Restore CD I have had toreinstall Guard Dog, because even when not reformating the hard drive Iloose parts or all of the program. I have had Inavlid Page fault happen inInternet Explorer after an Illegal Operation occured when during the checkup phase of Guard Dog wher you can clean up deleted programs so they can'tbe recovered, I got an Illegal Operation box on screen, I closed it out andwent on with the rest of the check up and reboot of my PC, but when I wentto go on the Internet after connecting I could surf do to an Invalid PageFault occured requiring reloading of the Ops system and IE 5.0 and upgradefrom MS web site. I contacted McAfee via thier web site and real time chatwith a Tech ansd was sent instructions on to load Guard Dog in safe modewhich I not done yet. If you have some other type of Virus ProtectionProgram on Your PC such as Panda Anti Virus Platinum , do not select thevirus protection during Setup/Interview portion the Installation process, you will save your self some trouble later on in not having to deal withprogram conflicts, also if you don't want the GD Slpash Box at start up,uncheck the box for it you willsave timewhen you start your PC everytime. Another thing to do when setting up Guard Dog is to have it do AutoClean up when you go to shut down your PC intead of being promted to do iteach time at shut down.(it will not touch BookMarked/Favorites web sitecookies, unless you uncheck them in the cookies section of the program.)Thisprogram does do as it says but it does have some problems ,and you canupdate your version by using the limited version of Oil Change that comeswith it(volutary Install prompt). ... 1-0 out of 5 stars McAfee -- "Security Software" from Hell
McAfee reminds me of the 18th-century thieves who, when pursued by the crowd, would join the pursuers shouting "Stop Thief." McAfee sells you "security software" to deal with everything from popups to spyware, and then the program you install annoys you constantly with popups and advertisements for all the McAfee products you haven't yet purchased. If you complain about this to their customer service department, you get a boilerplate response, directions to go to their useless and endless list of FAQ's, and -- get this -- an invitation to use their "priority" phone support system, which costs $2.95 a minute. They are simply the worst, the bottom, the pits. If their practices were done by a normal (non-web) business, their CEO and middle management would probably all be in the penitentiary for deceptive and unethical merchandizing practices. AVOID MCAFEE PRODUCTS AS YOU WOULD AVOID THE PLAGUE. IF YOU ALLOW THEM ONTO YOUR HARD DISK, YOU WILL BE SORRY FOREVER AFTER.

1-0 out of 5 stars Renewal hell
Everything was Ok until I did my annual renewal. Or attempted to, anyway.

The offer was $49.99, with a $20 "mail-in" rebate. I thought that was about the stupidest thing I ever heard of in my life. I mean, I renew electronically, download electronically, pay electronically, and then supposedly get a rebate through snail mail. But, I needed the virus protection, held my nose, and paid the money.

I emailed McAfee customer support and told them my opinion. They responded to NOTHING that I said and merely noted that my email address was not registered with them as an account. This was strange, since I used that address to log in to their site.

Despite having renewed and downloaded the new version, the software didn't know that I had renewed. I was constantly interrupted to be informed that I needed to register. When I tried to register, the registration didn't work because -- miracle of miracles -- my email address was already registered -- the same email address that their customer support had no record of. (...)

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy another product. McAfee causes popups.
I bought McAfee VS 8.0, installed it on my computer, ran a virus scan, shut down... and the next morning when I boot up I suddenly have a popup problem after two years of being almost completely free of them (using Panicware Pop-Up stopper and Spybot Searh and Destroy - both free products I WOULD recommend). Basically, there's no way around the fact that these popups were and are caused by McAfee. The popups were bypassing my popup stopper even until I uninstalled, re-installed and updated it. When inquiring on the McAfee msg boards they'll admit to causing this very problem when visiting their own websites (and even try to defend it by saying if popups ads didn't work they wouldn't be used) but play dumb and stop replying to the threads when multiple people state that it's much bigger in scope (the popups occur all the time and are not related to the sites you're visiting). On another thread they (of course) recommended buying the McAfee pop-up stopper.

Basically, buying a product such as this and having it cause problems like that is unexcusable in my opinion. It's akin to buying a shampoo that causes constant body odor and having them recommend their own brand of soap to fix the problem. So the low score isn't due to a lack of performance of the product, but rather a lack of morals and ethics displayed by the company.

1-0 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY
I would advise STAYING AWAY from all McAfee AntiVirus products. It hogs up to much resources on the computer. It makes way longer boot up time. And to make things worse.......They cut off my updates after only 8 Months. I paid for the 1 FULL Year of updates. I emailed them but they could care less. I am now using EZ Armor AntiVirus & Firewall. They work great and boot up time is way faster. STAY AWAY FROM McAfee !

1-0 out of 5 stars They can have it back
Rather than flog a dead horse, I'll just say my experience was similar to others who have given this software 'one star': frustrating to install and try to get working, impossible to get rid of easily, and tech support was absolutely no help. I returned mine even though opened software qualifies for only a partial refund. I wouldn't use this if they were giving it away. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great antivirus...
My experience with antivirus software is, let's say, diverse. I have tried from Norton to McAfee and even the freebie Avast! and I can say the best one I've seen so far is this little engine that could from Spain. Norton is a resource hog, it drains away so much RAM it makes your computer useless. Compared to that, Panda uses few RAM and your system does not sacrifice much resources. Titanium was designed to be as simple as it can be for the regular user, and it is marvelous on that department. You won't get caught up in undecipherable computer mumbo jumbo.. in plain and simple English (or Spanish, your choice) you'll be able to scan your systemn and see how it vulnerable it is to online threats. Its update system is the best and most comprehensive out there, and it sends DAILY files with new virus information to systems, compared to the bi-weekly or when-the-latest-major-crisis-comes-out updates from Norton. Give it a try and you won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best antivirus I've ever used.
I've been using Norton for many years, thinking since it was the most popular it was the best. But it isn't, actually, its one of the worst. So I spent much time researching various antiviruses and tried quite a few, including McAfee, Kaspersky, NOD32, Trend Micro Internet Security and Panda. Trend Micro's antivirus is also very good, especially with the bundled firewall and some other extra features.
I had tried Panda awhile back but it crashed my system so I made up my mind to never use it again. But this was a different system, OS and antivirus version, so after noticing a few good reviews I just decided to try it.
Pros
1)Consumes very little system resources compared to other progs, especially when scanning.
2)Very good scan speed, much faster than any other I've tried.
3)Actually detects AND disinfects the viruses it finds.
4)Easy to use.
5)Nice user interface.
6)Scans for various other infections such as hackertools and jokes.

Cons
Haven't found any.

I do warn you however, I've heard quite a few reports of this crashing systems and doing other unwanted things to peoples systems, so try it at your own risk. For me it worked perfectly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Serious bug
I had a very similar experience as the reviewer from Brooklyn. I went for the free version of this software, downloaded from panda's website. Immediately after rebooting my system I noticed that all the desktop icons were generic looking. And my internet explorer was missing all the bookmarks. I did a lot of digging on my hard drive and on the Internet, in the end I ran across the Brooklyn guy's review and uninstalled Panda. Lo and behold, after another reboot my system was back to normal again. I guess I got it for free so I should of known.

1-0 out of 5 stars Screwed up my IE badly
I highly recommend against Panda Antivirus. Immediately after I installed it (after getting dissatisfied with Norton Antivirus 2004 Professional) it srewed up my Internet Explorer. First, all my favorite links (hundreds of them!) disappeared without a trace. Actually, before that... I had a lot of trouble registering the product on Panda's website, and the username/password they provided me did not work at all. Back to IE... All my favorites were gone! And I could not add any more links. Apparently Panda changed some registry settings for IE that would not allow me to change any settings in IE. If I went into options and tried to change settings, IE would just crash. Also my Internet setting on my Windows XP Home system was reset by Panda. This is absolutely the worst piece of software I've used.

Upon uninstalling it I rebooted and everything went back to normal. I ran McAfee's online virus scan tool to make sure my system was sound.

Definitely stay away! I do not recommend Norton, either. McAfee seems the best bet right now, even though I didn't like their older versions, but at least the 2004 McAfee seems okay so far.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product and Regular Updates
This is really great antivirus software. I switched to this after Norton let the W32.Blaster worm into my system. Nortons automated updates...maybe a couple times a week..at best were to slow to help me. Panda updates at least daily and often several times as new definitions are defined. It also does not slow down the system as much as Norton did. Norton needes to redesign their software as they cannot compete with this great antivirus software. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Many problems, No support, got 7 months not year I paid 4
I bought the EZ Armour Desktop Security Suite because I'm like a librarian - if I get volume one I have to get the rest. But I had a lot of problems with it. The virus scan crashed my computer about 1 out of 4 times I ran it. I could restart my computer and run it again, no problem. The firewall was a nightmare. It basically prevented me from connecting to the internet. I had to keep it turned off. The support was thru email. If you can't connect to the internet try using email support. When I tried the email support several times it seemed like they missed the point of the question. It took a couple days for them to respond, they I have to write back and say "but you didn't answer my question"! After three or four repetitions of that it wasn't worth bothering to get an answer. The other parts of the suite besides anti-virus and firewall had little or no explanation of what they did or why they were there. No documentation. After 7 months I got notices that my 1 year subscription expired. Telephone support to straighten out the problem cost more than the product itself. I went to the Computer Associates web site and on the main page were notices that they were giving away free one year subscriptions to the virus protection and firewall in the spirit of patriotism or national defense or something. So I downloaded one. 26 days later I got a notice that my 30 day trial was expiring and it was time to make a purchase decision. I totally give up and am shopping around for a different product where one year does not mean 7 months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Be Happier!
I'm using the downloaded version of EZ Armor. Dell had installed McAfee on my PC; and since the McAfee Security Center was still there, and it continued to do virus scans, I assumed I had a 1-year account with McAfee. I was wrong. It expired like 5 months ago, and all the virus scans since then were apparently worthless. Thus, I uninstalled McAfee, and installed EZ Armor. Installation of EZ Armor on my Dell with XP was simple; it took like 30 minutes. I later did a virus scan of my entire computer, and it discovered 2 infected files and deleted them.

The firewall is adjustable, but I'm just using the setting they chose. I forgot to turn off the firewall when I did a Windows Update, but that caused no problem. When I forgot to turn off my McAfee firewall during an update, it usually crashed my computer. The privacy protector is lots of fun...it seems all web pages have a web bug that they block for you!

The EZ Armor main page is not as easy to understand as McAfee's Security Center page; but they have an "Ask Sammy" click-on...where you type in your question...and then get a quick answer to it, giving you easy to understand directions for doing what you want to do.

As things are going, I couldn't be happier with EZ Armor. And if they keep going as they are, I will certainly continure to use it as my anti-virus software from now on. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Every computer that's used for e-mail and Internet browsing needs an antivirus program. There are dozens to choose from, and McAfee VirusScan 6.0 is a solid and feature-rich option. Unfortunately, a frustrating interface and minor technical glitches keep VirusScan 6.0 from reaching the lofty, user-friendly peak inhabited by the superior Norton Antivirus.

VirusScan 6.0 had a few minor issues from the onset. For one of our test installations, we upgraded a Windows 2000-based PC from VirusScan 5.x and it didn't go smoothly. The installer attempted to uninstall the earlier version, generated an error, and afterward it was impossible to automatically uninstall version 5.x through the Windows Control Panel Add/Remove applet.

Meanwhile, on a Windows XP machine, we performed a clean VirusScan 6.0 installation to a location on our E drive. Unfortunately, each time we started Outlook 2000, it generated errors indicating that it couldn't find the McAfee e-mail scanning add-on, although it had been configured to look in the default location on the C drive.

Lastly, HAWK, a module that looks for suspicious activity to detect viruses that McAfee isn't yet aware of, caused Outlook XP to error and shut down when we tried to open several safe, non-infected e-mails.

Judging from past experience, McAfee will probably iron out most of the technical issues and incompatibilities with a series of timely updates.

Like several of the latest McAfee products, VirusScan 6.0 presents users with an HTML-style interface, complete with Forward, Back, and Home buttons. McAfee was aiming for intuitiveness, and truly amateur users might find it. But most Windows users are probably more familiar with conventional pull-down menus and shortcut bars. The page- and shortcut-based interface makes it frustrating to locate options quickly.

But beneath the minor glitches and the ugly interface lies a powerful, comprehensive antivirus program. McAfee VirusScan 6.0 had no trouble detecting and neutralizing dozens of common viruses we threw at it. It offers to take a number of actions upon discovering one: an infected file can be repaired (if possible, depending on the nature of the virus), deleted, ignored, or quarantined, which means it's placed in a special folder that effectively isolates it from the rest of the hard drive.

McAfee's generous feature set and pocketbook-friendly price are both commendable. Its technical issues and goofy interface, however, are not. VirusScan 6.0 is a solid product that probably needed a little more testing before its release, and while it accomplishes what it sets out to do, several competing products serve the same purpose with fewer headaches. --Joel Durham, Jr. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Worked great for me..
After reading these reviews I was a bit surprised at all of the negative ones. The only issue that I had with this product was the internet filter. That was mainly because I couldn't get the control over what would and wouldn't pass the filter that I really wanted. If you want a good Internet Filter/Cookie control/Ad control/Firewall for the internet I would suggest Zone Alarms PRO. I installed this Mcafee version 6 on my Windows XP Dell computer and had absolutely no problems. No freezing, no update issues, no slowing down of my computer. It works great. And it has been able to detect a number of viruses and block them before they got onto my computer. I tried Norton Antivirus and after getting a virus on my computer that Norton would not remove (even after downloading all the latest definition files), I loaded Mcafee and updated it, and it removed all the viruses. The only reason for the 4 instead of the 5 was my disappointment in the Internet Filter that was provided. Otherwise this would have been a 5. I would buy this product again in a heartbeat.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fair protection, No support
I realize customer support is not a profit-maker. So has McAfee. My system was down a week and once I had isolated Security Center as the problem, I wasn't able to speak to anyone whose first language was English. Morons with flow charts, a huge phone bill and I finally figured out (on my own) how to edit the registry additions. Spyware included but subtle.

1-0 out of 5 stars its ...
when my dad bought the virus scanner from a shop it said that we would get FREE UPDATES when they were available. ho hum what happins? cost$$$$$$$$$$ and sometimes we dont have that to spend on stuff that dosen't WORK...... it didn't detect a virus in a email that i myself had, thus causing half of my email contacts to get it and their computer CRASH.....if you read this.....DO NOT BUY THIS VIRUS SCANNER OR PRODUCTS......... GO ELESWHERE TRUST ME.... AND MY FAMILY!!!...

1-0 out of 5 stars Crashed Windows 98 SE; take your chances on a virus
This software bites!! It crashed Windows 98 SE and I was unable to start-up. Only the fact that we have two PCs and I could access the Msoft site for help saved me. McAfee charges for live tech support even on day 1! Now they tell me (via chat) that the work-around is to edit my autoexec.bat file. Just what the average PC owner wants to do. ...

1-0 out of 5 stars Mcafee customer support is the WORST. An utter nightmare.
I purchased this software after trying unsuccessfully to download VirusScan Online SIX TIMES. The Mcafee website is so truly awful its scary - to login to their website you have to either delete all of your cookies, or reset your Internet security option in Internet Explorer. Totally unacceptable! Their technical support chatroom staff are totally inexperienced call-center people who enter in pre-written statements that dont answer questions. After I typed in my entire problem, explaining that i could not login and activate my account, the rep responded "Did you login and activate your account?". Totally infuriating. Technical support for Mcafee products is ridiculous. If you want to speak to someone on the phone, its extremely ... if you try to get help through the website, you get no telephone numbers, only directions to use the useless chat feature. Go with NORTON instead! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What, me worry?
Until fairly recently, my internet access was by way of phone modem, and my e-mail software was, to put it mildly, archaic. Even worse, the dial-up service to which I had access required a toll call. Needless to say, my on-line time was spent, for the most part, in brief spurts: Get on; get what I need (mostly just e-mail); get off.

Given this "get on; get off" modus operandi, I didn't need to worry too much about people hacking into my computer (a Macintosh); the window of opportunity my machine presented to hackers was pretty small, to put it mildly. But I still managed to get Windoze-sourced virus attachments to e-mail I received. On the Mac, these manifested themselves as text files having a vbe extension, meaning that they would run under Visual Basic on Windoze machines. On a Mac, of course, no damage is done. (I was helped more than a little by Microsoft, which continues to cripple Visual Basic for the Mac, limiting it to just a macro programming language as part of the MS Office suite. I couldn't have run these programs if I had wanted to.) But, using a text editor, I at least had the opportunity to scan these Visual Basic programs, to see "what made them tick."

Then (fairly recently, as I wrote), I upgraded to a broadband (cable modem) internet connection. And, since my Mac of choice is a laptop, with ultra-low energy consumption and other similar benefits, I tend to leave it on all (well, at least MOST) of the time. So I thought it prudent to install some sort of protection against hackers (and against the possibility that someone might try to write Mac-specific viruses and worms, despite the fact that 95% of personal computers are NOT Macs). Enter Norton Internet Security for the Mac. This inexpensive "insurance" software contains two parts: a software "Personal Firewall" and Norton AntiVirus ("NAV"), the latest version of Norton's "SAM" (Symantic Antivirus for the Mac). Each module is flexible in the way it can be customized for one's personal use. (For example, NAV preferences can be set so that archived files are not scanned [once they are scanned initiallly for contamination], saving significant scanning time subsequently.)

I've now used Norton Internet Security for a few months, and am pleased to report that it does what it is advertised to do, unobtrusively and in the background. The Personal Firewall log tells me that, on average, there are upward of 50 or 60 daily attempts to "ping" my computer, all denied. (A fair percentage of these has been from my broadband service, but the service's lack of success at entry doesn't seem to negatively affect our relationship.) The NAV log tells me that, since installation, only one active Mac virus has been discovered and, of course, neutralized. And, not that it was ever a problem, but it seems as if the "stable as a rock" OS is even more stable, if that is possible.

Is there a downside? Well, I no longer see any of those Visual Basic attachments, so it's fair to say that my VB-for-the-Mac programming skills have never really left the starting block. But, then, neither have Microsoft's, so I'm not complaining.

An interesting aside: In preparing this review, I did a websearch on the "Alfred E. Newman" brief description at the top, wanting to make sure that it ended up being punctuated correctly. Among the search "hits" I found was one for a Peachpit Press book on internet security for the Macintosh, having precisely this title. My apologies to Peachpit Press. But, well, a good idea is STILL a good idea, irrespective of its originator.

Highly recommended for all Mac users.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly Easy to Install
When I received this pkg. I was prepared to call my "computer literate" friend but decided to see how far I could proceed in installing this on my own. The directions were clear and everything went smoothly. Now, I'll not be accused of passing any viruses nor will I receive any! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Professional protects your PC from a wide range of viruses, Trojan horses, and other rogue programs. It installs easily from CD-ROM and immediately checks your PC for any viruses that may already have infected it. As soon as you connect to the Internet, McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Professional downloads the latest updates to ensure you are current with the latest virus signatures.

To work effectively, McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Professional operates on many levels. The new Hostile Activity Watch Kernel (HAWK) constantly monitors your PC for viruslike activity and integrates well with many e-mail clients. VShield runs constantly in the background, checking files as you open them. Even if you choose to disable VShield, the program still protects Microsoft Office files by checking them before you open them. It also protects against dangerous e-mail scripts by looking for suspicious behavior. Any suspect activity is stopped immediately.

For users using Windows 98, 98 SE, or Me, there is the Safe & Sound function that takes copies of your documents and keeps them safe in the event they are corrupted or damaged. Note that this does not work with Windows 2000 and XP.

Some of the latest viruses can stop antivirus programs from working properly once they have infected a machine. If you suspect this is the case, you can boot your PC directly from the McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Professional installation CD-ROM, ensuring a clean environment for it to run in. You can also create a boot floppy to do the same thing.

Like the other products in McAfee's security range, McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Professional uses Instant Updater to constantly check for and automatically download product updates when you are online.

Of course, any antivirus product is only as good as its ability to stop viruses from infecting your system. Happily, McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Professional has been given a 100% rating by Virus Bulletin (although this assumes you keep your product up-to-date with Instant Updater).

The Professional edition of VirusScan 7.0 has several features not included in the standard one. The secure erase feature allows you to remove files from your PC in a far more secure way than by simply deleting them, thus protecting your sensitive data. You can also tidy up your temporary files and browser files automatically. This saves disk space and can make your PC run a little faster, too. A final privacy feature is the ability to remove MRU data. This controls the most recently used files list you see at the bottom of many programs File menus.

McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Professional Edition is a worthy update, and existing users will appreciate the improved security this release offers, as well as its additional features. --Iain Laskey, Amazon.co.uk ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Just purchased this software for added firewall protection
I have Norton 2002 anti-virus on windows XP. Norton was disenabled by a virus backdoor.servu.30 and it couldn't detect it. I ran five other anti-virus programs to test which detected this virus, none could delete it as it was a system file, but simply quarantined the file. I used Stop-Sign eAthology which first detected the virus, Tuscan, bitdetector and a couple others. McAfee was the only program that actually deleted the file. Most would have wanted to reinstall their windows operating system and with a year's worth of data, this was a last ditch consideration, so I didn't jump at it.

I reinstalled Norton (after attempting to install a trial version of their firewall which detected changed files) which may have also cleaned up some bad files, however, I did this reinstall prior to McAfee's scan. By the way, if Norton is already installed, McAfee won't load until you remove it, so unfortunately, it doesn't allow you to run both.

McAfee's firewall seems to rely more on you to configure it and decide which web pages to allow internet access, however, it seems to work well enough. I haven't tried Norton's firewall, but it appears to be very thorough from the demo's I've seen. Perhaps I'd rate McAfee higher on the anti-virus detection/removal and Norton on it's firewall...would be nice to use these in conjunction, but I doubt you can.

I would recommend this product. I had no installation problems.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked until I had to install on XP
I had a copy of this running in WIN 2000 & it worked fine. I changed machines & installed it with XP & it never worked. I kept getting error messages when I booted up my Outlook. My husband's computer (on a Dell installed version) kept catching viruses on the same messages (luckily I did not open any of the suspicious attachments). After uninstalling & reinstalling several times to no avail, I contacted McAfee support (by instant messaging). The first tech support took 30 minutes & no sucess - basically telling me to uninstall by hand about 15 files & then reboot. The second time on tech support, I spent 45 minutes trying to convince some idiot that the program was NOT working - finally forwarded one of the virus messages to him & his "LAB". Wow, I was right!!!! His fix that took another 30 minutes included a reboot (so I lost touch with him) & did not work. I am giving up & buying something else, my time is more valuable that this!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even think about buying this piece of absolute junk!
Unfortunately, I get a lot of viruses sent to me by mail. I use the Eudora Light mail client. McAfee VirusScan discovers the viruses Ok, but that's unfortunately not the end of the story. For each single incoming virus, this is what happens: 1) The pop-up window that's supposed to pop up and ask me what to do, actually does exactly so, and I click either "delete" or "clean", to get rid of the virus. 2) However, McAfee VirusScan fails doing so, and the pop-up window pops up again, with fewer alternatives. 3-10) This strange procedure with something failing and a new pop-up-window popping up is repeated about 10 times (note that we're still on the same virus!). 11) McAfee VirusScan makes the mail client lose contact with the server. 12) Checking mail again, the mail containg the virus is downloaded again, since McAfee VirusScan made Eudora lost contact with the server, and the server thus tries to re-send that mail. 13) Thus, step 1-12 are repeated forever! 14) I.e. the only way to check mail, is to deliberatly TURN OFF McAfee VirusScan, check the mail, and manually delete everything that look suspicous! 14) It seems IMPOSSIBLE to get any support from McAfee: I tried to use the web form, but I didn't get an answer; I tried the web chat alternative, but was disconnected after I'd first waited 30 minutes in the queue and then had typed in the entire description of my problem. I will NEVER EVER buy any product from McAfee again, that's for sure! This is the absolutely worst piece of junk that I've ever bought.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst thing I have ever downloaded, no tech support!
What a waste of time & money. I downloaded & installed the product & then when I scanned my computer it said I had a few viruses, but it couldn't delete or quarantine them. Also, around this time the Mcafee icon & shortcut disappeared from my desktop. Tried the on-line support, but after waiting 1 hour gave up. Called the phone support (which costs $2.95/minute)and the technician helped me delete the viruses (very complicated & the call took 20 min); then I was going to have to reinstall Mcafee. It didn't work (& of course I was off the phone help line by then)! I spent many hours seaching the Mcafee website for helpful info and searching through my computer c drive uninstalling Mcafee so I could reinstall it. It never worked,I kept getting different error messages.. Mcafee is like a virus itself getting in and causing different system problems. I then went to on-line support where I waited 2 1/2 hours in queue until I got a technician who lead me thru a few steps & then told me to reboot (even though I told her I would loose her, she reassured me the problem would now be solved). It wasn't and she was gone! Even their credit card refund request site would not work right! I thought the problems might be specific to Windows ME system, but from the other reviews it doesn't seem to be. Worst product I have ever purchased on-line; I want back my 10 hours I spent trying to get it to work. If you are thinking of buying this product, don't, you'll be sorry! After reading the reviews of different products, I am going to get PC-cillin instead.
