1-0 out of 5 stars Symanted is the WORST IN SERVICE OUT THERE!!!!
I was not able to boot my G4 Laptop from my Norton System Works 3.0. According to the company website I had to get a new disk. I called for the first time this past Wednesday. After better than 30 minutes on hold I finally got a customer service person who told me I needed permission from TECH SUPPORT and that they were closing early sorry. On Thursday I called Tech Support and after 3 rude Tech Peopl finnally someone gave me an order number to give to the Customer Service people. It is now Friday and I have yet to get a Customer Service person on again.

There is no prompt for people who need a disk shipped. There is no Mac area choice so I have to go through the General Help menu. NO ONE COMES TO THE PHONE! I pity those that have to deal with this company.

They should turnt their anti-virus scan on themselves and eliminate the management structure of this company. A more detailed review of my experience can be found onmy blog... http://elitistmutt.blogspot.com/ ...

Thank you,
ted

1-0 out of 5 stars Even Symantec is giving up on this one!
Symantec had tons of problems with Norton Utilities 8, which is part of Systemwroks 3. It isn't compatible with OS X 10.3 and has many problems with earlier systems. See Macfixit, Macintouch, or other news sources for evidence. Now Symantec announced that they are discontinuing development of everything but antivirus and network security products for the Mac. Don't buy broken software from a company who refuses to fix it. Buy DiskWarrior instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best features, best stability, best value
Of all the current major anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall suites, this package is simply the best. The tools here are fast, reliable, robust, and do not install secret DLLs like Symantec/Norton products. This is also a great value, even before rebates, and the new anti-spyware and anti-phishing tools are innovative and effective.

1-0 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!
Unfortunately I couldn't rate this product as ZERO. From the time I installed this software on my computer, it started acting strangely: computer freezes, crashes, etc. To top this off it directed me to a bogus Microsoft Update site. Eventually, I couldn't even access my ISP. Needless to say, I uninstalled this crap from my computer right away. But who's to say that I won't continue to have problems in the near future. This is what happens when you install products from shady characters. Pay no attention to the positive feedback on this product, but if you are a gambler and can afford to destroy your computer of sacrifice your security, then go on ahead and install this on your system. Be forewarned, however, that your risk will be high.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great test drive - feature packed
...if only Amazon.ca had 3-pack available for purchase...
I especially like being able to administer the program from one pc over home lan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eats Norton for Breakfast
I had Norton free for 3 months when I first bought my latest computer. When the trail Period ran out I was going to renew the Norton but the cost of renewing it was quite expensive so I looked into other Anti-viruses.
With Norton it Glitches with a lot of software you run on your computer (ie; Sims).
PC-cillin works great, it is very user friendly and you don't need to be Bill Gates to figure it out.
I have had no problems running other software with PC-cillin.
Also bare in mind that with Norton Anti-Virus you don't get the Firewall with it you have to pay for higher version.
Overall I would recommend the PC-cillin over Norton.
The only down side to PC-cillin it seems to update every five minutes and it can get annoying if you are running other software at the same time. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars WORTHLESS, dont waste your money
This has to be by far the worst software I have ever encountered.I purchased this software last week after my Norton (equally worthless) software failed to detect a virus and 37 adwares in my computer.I am very mindful of updating my security software and was very upset that Norton failed so miserably. So I gave McAfee my 60 bucks and went on to install.4 hours later and $40 of phone support and still unable to install successfully, apparently, as per McAfees customer support, "Our software has a lot of issues with defective discs, its quite common"What!?!?She then directed me to free software I could download from the internet, so I paid 40 bucks for support for you to tell me where to get FREE help??? Ridiculous.I demanded a refund for the "support" call and will be returning this software. GO with eTrust EZ Armor, less expensive, less space on your hard drive and much easier to use. Big brand names mean nothing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super! McAfee is BACK!
I'm a Norton user, have been since 2000.Studies were posted showing this was a better product.Next Windows XP had problems with McAfee and Norton beat them to the contract, developing a certified product first.HOWEVER, Norton is now the slacker. While on top, sucking up the money of millions, Norton is turning it's attention to other things.I love McAfee, now.Norton AntiVirus 2003 & 2004 will not catch the W32Spybot.Norton Internet Secrutiy will slow down your network, not allow you to EVER turn off Norton Internet Security, and cannot be uninstalled (must rip it out of the registry). In effect they take over your PC like NetZero, AOL, and much like a trojan. When I bought McAfee 9.0 2005 to replace Norton 2004 it caught the following:
- (2) Trojans: Exploit MhtRedir.gen
- (1) Trojan: Exploit CodeBase.gen
- (1) Virus: EICAR test file
Also, McAfee is very price considerate to their coupon people(...).I don't know what took them (4) years, but they are back in my book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Rebate woes
I thought about going on with a tirade about how McAfee offers rebates on their products that never arrive. But too many people have beaten me to the punch. There are whole websites devoted to people who spent six months trying to get a promised rebate from them. My story is not at all original, I bought the product and carefully included everything the rebate asked for, mailed the whole shebang in and waited...and waited...and waited and FINALLY received a letter in reply saying that my claim was rejected because of missing form xxx. "I'll have to take your word on that boys as you kept all the forms that I sent to yourselves instead of returning them with this note!!"
I could have fought them over this but why bother it's only $20 and I have no leverage.
Instead I'll just have to content my self with this little tirade...Oh and perhaps post alink to a company that lets you download a *FREE VERSION** of their commercial anti-virus software. [...]

3-0 out of 5 stars At least it works this time
I had given up McAfee back with Version 7.0 when I could not get it to work and received -- let's say less than adequate support.I went to Norton Antivirus & Personal Firewall with version 2004 when my OEM installed McAfee on my new desktop and OEM Norton on my laptop were ready to be upgraded.

The Norton software worked quite well for about 7 months. When I downloaded the updates around the first of Feb 05 from Symantec, I could not stop my laptop from going to the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).After completely giving up on being able to get the Symantec to run on my laptop, I decided to give the McAfee Antivirus 2005 9.0 a try.At least it works and does not crash my system (yet). It does lack some of the intelligence of the Norton product. The Norton product had a nice feature to create rules to help recognize activities on the laptop that were not malicious. This kept it from constantly stopping or flagging activities that were ok.The McAfee lacks this degree of intelligence.

But, like I said, it runs.Which is far more than I can say for the 2/05 updates to Symantec's Norton products.

I may give my Norton a try again in a month or two to see if Symantec has fixed the problems. But I will not hold my breath.

I would prefer to have Microsoft get into the Antivirus and robust firewall arena so that we can have a product that we can at least have more confidence in its ability to play nice with the Windows kernal.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe it's good stuff (?)included printed material isn't
I bought a copy of 9.0 locally because I've always used McAfee and online updating is a bad joke with my connection. The first version, whatever it was, came preinstalled on my Gateway and came with no print documentation. Next up I bought a copy of 6.0 and got the print stuff, no real problems if a guy would just read directions I guess. I updated that one online but made mistakes (their system wasn't clear enough for me and the download took too much time)and decided to go and buy software this time based on the reputation I'd heard McAfee had.
I was pleased to read, on the box, that just about any PC out there could run this thing but I was dismayed to find next to no printed material in the box. The box itself almost has more info than the sorry little scrap of paper inside. Quick Start Guide they all it and that's about all you get, a quick run through on preparing your PC and installation of the product. I'm not very computer literate and this thing seems to be written for Windows XP (I'm using '98). Any real operations information seems to be contained on the CD-ROM (so you'd better not throw that away), I'm not entirely sure I can figure out how to open it up- I want it in print. Another thing I don't like is that the software seems to be autogeared to search and update on it's own- not one word in print anywhere about that.
Next time I may just see about using somebody else's software.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this piece of crap.
This software gave me only problems, I have Win98SE,My computer was working fine before the installation of McAfee 9.0, It caused my computer to lock up every time when scaning for virus. After restarting my computer this antivirus was forbiding access to several files vital for a the computer to run, I couldn't uninstall it because did not let me open my control panel. So my computer became unuseful. I was able to start in safe mode and disable the crap. Then I used the manual scan option, it found a virus call W32\FunLove.gen it said that the files have been cleaned. I ran the manual scan again and it found the same virus in the same files previously cleaned!!. I did it 3 times and it was always finding the same virus. What a nightmare. I installed it in another computer with Win98 in it, did the same thing. Is unvelibable that a new software can perfome some badly, it is a rip off. Besides all the support of McAfee is terrible there is no 1-800 numbers and you have to pay by the minute to talk to technicians. Don't buy this crap!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary
Sure, you can buy this software and protect your Mac, but the question is, "Why would you want to waste your money?" There has not yet been one virus written for the Macintosh. (That's right, not a single one.) And even if you download a Windows virus, it won't work, because Windows programs can't run on Macs. Also, Microsoft Word's macro system can deliver viruses, but these do not operate on the Mac, much as a Windows virus cannot operate on the Mac. Don't waste your money on a product that protects you from viruses that don't exist.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken (Un)installation
I couldn't be more disappointed. I have installed it successfully twice in the past, but my latest effort has been nothing but disappointment. I have been working on this for a number of hours, and continually get stuck on the NAV Update, where it successfully retrieves the various update files, but can't apply the last "Virus Def" (or at least couldn't Process it in 8 hours...). Worse, is that the product refuses all attempts to uninstall itself either (Unknown errors...). So, I'm left with a newly built machine, with a non-functioning NAV which won't successfully install nor uninstall. I am quickly reaching a point where I will need to wipe this disk and reinstall OSX from stratch. An anti-virus program should not be written so poorly to have to require this...

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay Away
As a long-time satisfied NAV user on the PC side I decided to go with NAV 9 for mac with my new iBook. I have tried running the scan three times. The first two I cancelled after 3 hours without completion. The scan runs slowly but just about grinds to a halt when scanning the python files (.pyc,.pyo, etc.). I am now in the middle of my third try and after 2 1/2 hours it is still going. I think it is shameful that Symantec would release this product as compatible with Panther when it clearly is not. The suggestions I have gotten from Symantec tech support have been worthless! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for low budgets. Look elsewhere if you have more.
Almost every essential utility program is packed into this low priced software cd-rom. It includes NetDefense which is a version of Sygate Personal Firewall and it has a Trend Micro Antivirus. Both were the main reason for me to get this. There's also a handy Recovery Commander that works like System Restore but easier to schedule checkpoints and will check before installs. It also has a dumb-downed Ghost Surf software which I bought the full-version afterwards. Other utilities were also very handy. Though I'm not too keen about the defragmenter. Seems rather slow compared to the defragger of WinXP. I recommend this for those looking for a all-in-one utility software but here's my reason for a 3-star rating:
1) Recovery Commander will somtimes slow my PC down during startup unlike System restore though this is really a small complaint since it's more handy than System Restore.
2) You can't do a quick disabling of the Anti-Virus on the fly like with Norton or AVG. You have to do a semi-uninstall. Then to reinstall requires a reboot.
3) The Clean-up utility is very thorough but I admit I'm not a pro. It lists ALOT of stuff you can delete but I don't recommend using this unless your a PC expert. Too risky.
4) Ghost Surf is good as a full version, not the version supplied with this suite. Although I don't recommend GS but that's another review. Yes I said it is good but IMO too good. Just try it out and you might see what I mean.
5) The Jet Defragger is very slow. If you have WinXP, just use the Disk Defragger. It does the job well enough for me.

Overall, it's serves well for the firewall and anti-virus (it updates automatically and often), and for budget minded people, BUT if you have more money, just get something else OR better yet, get separate software. I recommend the going to CNET and download some freebies like Sygate Firewall, Empty Temp Folders, Reg Cleaner, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars V-Com's System Suite 5.0 Bundle
I Have used System suite 3.0 & 4.0 from ontrack But over a year ago V-Communications Inc. Purchased all of the utilities division from Ontrack, they have since Released a Upgrade to System suite 5.0 ..is simular in looks with a few minor improvements but is still Much better than norton system works...less problems....The registry fixer is much better, not as fancy as system works but reliable these days is more important....has everything that system works has,the virus program is only the engine of trend-micro but is quite reliable, same for the net defense from sygate, is still quite reliable, uses much less resources than norton system works which Is A Must....They include Recovery Commander ..Is Quite simular to windows XP System restore but Much more reliable..which you boot from a CD To Restore...The defragmenter has a bug but there is a patch available..overall, It Is A Great program, worth the Money

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than Norton SystemWorks
I had been using Norton SystemWorks for the past 8 years. But, when the antivirus subscription ran out in March, I decided against renewing it. Instead, I purchased and installed SystemSuite 5.0. I think it was the best software purchase I'd made in years! On the first scan, it found and deleted over 19,000 unnecessary files and a virus undetected by Norton SystemWorks.
Recently, I convinced a friend who was having problems with his computer to switch from Norton Antivirus 2004 to SystemSuite 5.0. On his first scan, he found and deleted eight viruses!
Three caveats -- First, I didn't like any of the trial programs that came with SystemSuite 5.0, so eventually uninstalled all of them. Secondly, I think ZoneAlarm is a better firewall program than the one provided with SystemSuite 5.0. But SystemSuite allows you to choose the utilities / programs you want installed, so I've had no problems changing firewalls. Third, SystemSuite does not scan for or detect spyware or adware. You'll need to install a "spy-killer," like Ad-Aware 6.0, on your own.
Overall, since installing SystemSuite 5.0 four months ago, I've come to the conclusion that Norton SystemWorks is overrated. If you want an anti-virus / utility package that really works, try SystemSuite 5.0. I think you'll be glad you did.

3-0 out of 5 stars Virus Definition Downloads a pain
The program itself is not bad. The problem I have is with the virus definitions. You cannot just download the new virus definitions, you must download the entire virus definition file.
This has meant that 2-3 times a week I have needed to download a 4 mb plus file. This is a pain! I contacted the company and they currently do not have incremental updates.

1-0 out of 5 stars compatibility
Systemsuite5 is NOT compatable with AOL,Thers are no patches, corrupts windows xp, its generally useless. For aol, you have to uninstall the firewall and the mail virus scanner. The system defragment tool looks like something out the stone age. To cut a long story short, spend the extra money and get Nortons. ... Read more

Overpriced and underpowered..... This software is more annoying then anything else. You practically have to turn off every setting to get your networked printers and network games to work, for example.

1-0 out of 5 stars A poorly designed product
It took me a day to install this product. If you do choose to use this product be sure to uninstall all other norton virus and internet security products even tho the instructions say that norton 2003 is uninstalled automatically--it isin't!! My computer now crashes frequently since I began using this product. My advice is to stay clear of this product until they get it fixed. One other point--don't count on getting any technical help form Symantec--they don't even have decent free help installing the product let alone using it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay as far away from this as you can....
I recommended this for my father based on my experience with previous versions. I wish I'd done some research first....

My father installed it on his desktop (a Dell running WinME) without any problems. When the system asked him to reboot, he said he'd do it later because it was late, and simply shut down the computer. The next morning he discovered the worst.

When he tried to boot up the computer, it started booting up normally, but when it got to his desktop, that's all he got - a blank desktop. No icons, no start menu, nothing. In fact, CTRL-ALT-DEL shows that nothing is running. Weird huh? Even weirder is that when he tried to go into 'Safe Mode', the exact same thing happens. I'm not sure what NIS 2004 did to his computer, but nothing short of reinstalling his entire system would get it to boot up.

Now comes the fun part - Symantec Technical Support and Customer Service. They don't exist. The only free tech support they have is email based, and run by people in India, who apparently don't speak English. I sent them email after email telling them that the system wouldn't boot up, and every time the sent back replies telling me to go to the 'Start Menu' and go here and there and do this and that. The just didn't get the fact that I couldn't load Windows.

So, I thought I'd give them a call to complain about the terrible tech support. I looked up their number on the internet and called. I got routed around the country to different phone systems, and then sat on hold for over two hours before I finally got frustrated enough to hang up and write the Better Business Bureau. Needless to say, I won't be installing this product on my own computer, and unless Symantec makes some major changes to the base program, won't be buying any more of their products.

If you're a computer guru, you might be able to get it to work, in which case this is a good program. The problem is, I'm a computer guru, and I couldn't make it work...

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money
This software won't allow my computer to access the internet. No email gets through. All web pages are inaccessible. When the problem first occurred, I disabled the software to go to Symantec's website and followed Symantec's automated online instructions to configure it. This fixed the problem for the rest of that day, but then the problem recurred the next time I rebooted. Symantec's human tech support is $30 per incident! Why should I throw bad money after good? I'm writing this off as a $40 mistake. You're better off with a $40 router and/or some freeware security software. Norton Anti-Virus may be pretty good, but the rest of this Internet Security package sucks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in California
I have been a Norton Internet Security user for years with total satisfaction. Upgrading to the 2004 version has nearly destroyed my Microsoft Outlook - it took hours to get back my previous Emails and more importantly my Address Book. It is still not as it was, but at least I can see everything. My Freecell is totally unusable. Also having problems with Word. The Symantec website has many articles to read to 'fix' what is broken by uploading the product. Too bad they didn't put as much effort into fixing it. I'm deleting this version from my computer and moving to something that will work! ... Read more
