1-0 out of 5 stars Personal use customer
Customer service is terrible. Should be zero stars. The Anti virus program is provided by a third party who's service is no longer online at the time of this message. It has been nearly a week of trying to register my software with no success. They never return email messages. In my opinion, the anti virus part of the software package is a rip off.The WinCleaner One Click is nice and easy to use. Not worth the bundle price.I am switching back to Norton.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solved my PC problems instantly - cannot recommend enough!
I really am not that involved with computers and software, so if there is a better product than this, I don't know about it.I have a PC from 1999 and had never cleaned the hard drive in 3 years, and a lot of problems had built up.Wincleaner 2002 got my PC back up and running properly in less than half an hour. I thought I would have to buy a new computer because of all the problems I was having, but thankfully Wincleaner took care of things and saved me the trouble.I just love this program.Once a week, I use it to wipe out all the cookies and internet clutter my PC picks up...and it removed several startup errors that were confusing my PC that I never even realized were there. It's really a great value for what it can do for you - and it's a program you can also let friends borrow when they are having trouble with their PCs.That's how I heard about Wincleaner, and I liked it so much I bought my own copy and have been so glad that I did. It's easy to use, once installed takes just one click from you to solve all your problems, and can restore your PC to its former, almost-new glory. What can be better than this?If anyone knows of a better product, please let me know about it...because this is the best PC cleaner I have seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does the job with ease
My son and a friend of his have used this product on Windows 98. Their machines had slowed down so badly they thought they would have to buy new ones.
After running Winclean they both could not believe that their machines were running like new again. They obliviously had let things go way to long.

I run the product on Windows XP and it does a very effective job of cleaning everything, including the registry. The only problem I ever had was Norton Anti-virus not scanning e-mail in and out after a registry cleaning.

In all fairness they do warn of such problems being possible. You can replace the last registry clean and solve whatever problems do occur. This doesn't happen every time. When it does I reverse only the registry files. All the rest are still removed.

Effective product. I recommend it highly. There are other products that will do similar services for you but this is certainly easy to use. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No trial, does not work for my CDR
Oh my... I brought this product so I can do slideshows on a VCD with the "proper beat" of the background music but apparently it does not recognize my Dell CDRW drive.

1. Ask for a Trial. This thing does not have a trial version.
Now I'm stuck with a product that can't can't recognize my CDRW.

Note: Most of my other software like Roxio, iTunes, Windows Media Player can "see" and burn with my CDRW. This is the ONLY product i've used that can't.

2. Support Sucks! - Go to their website. They'll convince you to use their website to look for support even though it's useless.
They responded to me with a "generic" email instead of trying to help solve my problem. Still waiting for a simple question of "Do you support my CDRW" drive?". Try calling their support number (not even an 800 number) and they still try to push you in using their website.

Again, to avoid getting stuck with something useless, don't buy unless they can give u a "trial version" like some of the "real" big companies like Jasc Photo album.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buggy and tech support is virtually non-existent.
Buggy buggy buggy! On one computer, I can only get NPF to load on 1/3 of all boots (warm or cold). On my other computer, the central (yet separate) updating program -- Symantec LiveUpdate -- automatically CHANGES its connectivity options ITSELF nearly every day, which causes the "LiveUpdate settings" to become "corrupt," making updating either NPF or NAV impossible unless. . . .

One goes through a cumbersome process of scanning the entire hard drive(s) for LiveUpdate's configuration settings, removes them manually, goes to the control panel to reconfigure NEW settings, and then reboots. This works (temporarily) to fix the problem, but it takes about 10 minutes. Do that 10-12 times per week, and you can imagine the frustration factor.

Periodically, this "quick" fix fails, and I have to go through a bizarrely convoluted "uninstall" process for Symantec LiveUpdate. This LENGTHY process is outlined in a "repair" document that, when the screen type is set to "smallest," requires 6 (SIX) pages of paper to describe and about 45 minutes to actually execute.

When that "repair" no longer works, Symantec tech "support" suggests uninstalling and reinstalling everything (that's their solution to nearly every problem -- they seem to have next to zero troubleshooting expertise or, perhaps, zero WILL to help), a process that can take as long as an hour and a half, depending on your CPU clock speed.

I've mentioned the near-uselessness of their email "tech" support. Frankly, I see no "tech" in their "support." Invariably, one is directed to one of a gazillion lengthy online documents that spells out a time-consuming process to keep the customer running in circles, only to find, ultimately, that there is NO way to fix the problem other than UNINSTALLING everything (remember, there are three components here -- NPF, NAV, and LiveUpdate) and then reinstalling ALL THREE. A 1.5 hour process, at least, as I noted above.

I'm completely fed up with Symantec, especially with their repeated "apologies for any inconvenience. . . ." What? "Any" inconvenience? How about the very REAL and repeatedly tangible wastes of time caused not only by buggy software but by their inability and/or unwillingness to actually troubleshoot an issue or fix the bugs in their software rather than simply playing their default "uninstall and reinstall" card. If they truly were sorry, they'd fix the software rather than directing the customer to "keep. . . running" (hat tip to Ralph Ellison).

I'm no programmer, but even I could give that "techincal support advice" (I use the terms loosely). I have no alternative software solutions to suggest, but I strongly warn users to avoid this software like the plague that it is.

Ironically, the anti-virus software works like a charm (it has intercepted dozens of viral emails), and the firewall is impressive in its capabilities and has been excellent. But the inability to keep the products updated because of unauthorized software auto-reconfigurations and subsequent file corruptions thereby, added to the dozens of hours needed to keep that update component functioning properly have made this software and Symantec's lack of useful tech support infuriating.

Update to Symantec 2005?
Not while I'm alive. . . .

4-0 out of 5 stars It's great if you keep it updated...
We use this at work and it is by far the best antivirus program out there. At home, I use the Macintosh version. The best I can say is that there are so many virii on the Window's platform you'd be silly not to have something like this installed. If you're tired of virii, worms, trojans, spyware, etc..., there is another solution. Get a Mac. The piece of mind you get knowing that the operating system is nearly impossible to infect or crack outweighs the tiny learning curve in switching to a different operating system. How many virii have I gotten at my Mac at home in the last 6 months? Zero. How many at work? At least one a week via email. Even our CIO (Information officer) is putting in a proposal as I write this to migrate the entire server and desktop system to the Mac OS X platform, and we're a fortune 500 company. The money saved alone in downtime from systems getting infected (if you can't work, you can't produce!), more than pays for the minor expense of making the switch. NAV is good. But unless you keep your virus definitions up to date, you're asking for a heap of trouble. And how many users really take the time to update their definitions even when the program prompts them to do so? I can count them on one hand. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Untrustworthy
I bought the Windows version. It works OK for a while, then stops initializing on startup, LEAVING THE INTERNET WIDE OPEN FOR YOUR KIDS. Intego tech support very, very poor. Only suggestion has been to uninstall/reinstall, which I have done many times. I've seen others with the Windows version having the same problem. Don't know about their Mac version, but I'm not impressed with Intego. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars using now for 3 years
This is the utility to have. I have installed it on all 3 of my computers because it can be a lifesaver in an emergency. When I accidentally downloaded a virus last month I just used GoBack to set my computer back to a time before the virus. When I want to rid my computer of programs I installed, I use GoBack so that it's if they were never there.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-to-have-tool for your PC.
I have been using the GoBack tool for close to 9 months. This tool saves me from a lot of disasters. This tool can bring your whole system back to the conditions of previous time. One of my computers is running with Win98 OS. I installed the Win98SE OS onto it. But the whole system hung after this OS update !! I was able to use GoBack to bring the system back to the time before I installed the Win98 SE OS. So, I virtually uninstalled the Win98 SE OS update at all.
With GoBack, I feel comfortable to install various tools/packages. If something goes wrong, instead of using the "un-install" application, I just use GoBack to move the whole system back to the old time.
This is a tool you must to have. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product. 2bad though, that 1 product can't do it all.
Okay, I've been fighting spyware, adware, mal-ware ,etc, for over a year now.
Started with Xcleaner, then added Spysweeper, now added
Spyware X-terminator.
[FYI, This product(Spyware X-terminator) appears to be
a re-labeled package of PESTPATROL.
Which is fine, as the price is CHEAPER when labeled as
Spyware X-terminator, than it is when labeled as Pestpatrol].
Anyway, as of now, June 2004, I can't find any SINGLE product that does it all.
I give Spysweeper 5 stars and I give Spyware X-terminator 5 stars.
Both are great products, but each seems to find a couple items that the other doesn't.
Personally, if you can afford it, I'd get both.
Mal-ware [including Spyware, adware, unwanted cookies, etc] has many ugly faces and you need to detect and destroy as many of them as you can.
Xcleaner was my very first anti-spyware package. But it is a multi-purpose tool, but doesn't have the depth of detection abilities that Spysweeper and Spyware X-terminator do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific
This has to be the best spyware out there, ease of use and catches 100% of the pests that are out there. I have tried so-called freebies such as "spy-bot" and "Adaware" but theyre NOT in the same league. So i guess you get what you pay for. ... Read more
