Worked Good For Me
At the risk of being labeled a McAfee stooge, I wanted to provide a positive review for McAfee Internet Security Suite 2004. I installed all of the applications of the suite with no problems. I have a year old Dell 4550 with XP Professional. I had let my Microsoft Updates slide a bit, forgot about them, and the machine got infected with Sasser. After battling Sasser for a day (on two different machines) and with my Norton Antivirus subscription running out at the end of May, I decided to get serious about Internet security. I have never had anything but Norton Anti-virus, no firewalls, not anti-spy, no privacy service. So I read about Norton Internet Security at the Norton site. It sounded great and it had favorable reviews with the publications. So I checked Amazon for prices. Much to my surprise there was major weeping and gnashing of teeth in the user reviews, 171 reviews and most of them terribly negative. Ok, so I checked out McAfee Internet Security. It appeared to be principally the same product, with similar features. It as well had reviewed positively in magazines, but McAfee's user reviews were not better than Norton's. There were far less of them, only 52, but again most were negative.

Not wanting blue screens of death, wiped out registries, or a computer that ran slow as sludge. I decided to look around. I found basically the same thing, positive reviews in the magazines and negative user reviews, only far less reviews altogether. So I went back to Norton and McAfee. Using a vague notion that happy users do not write as many reviews as angry users, coupled with the fact that Amazon's price on McAfee was significantly lower than Norton (I did not qualify for either company's rebate) I decided to go with McAfee.

I installed the entire suite without a hitch. I was impressed with the relative simplicity of the configuration process. The program asked questions which for the most part I understood, rather than the typical provide the "GNP of the TCI/IP of the IPS of DNS of the port number 3213 at which baud rate" etc etc. In fact I did not have to refer to any of the address, IPS, gobblygook. The upgrade process seemed a bit clunky at first but worked well. Within several hours I had the suite completely installed, upgraded, registered, and configured. The computer has behaved normally and I believe runs at the normal speed. The applications all seem to work well, and they upgrade automatically while logged on to the Internet.

Am I putting in a plug for McAfee? Not really, I have no axes to grind or laurels to lay. I do feel that with the overwhelming number of bad reviews that it might be helpful for a potential buyer to realize that there are some people who had good luck with the installation. I certainly am no computer whiz. All I can say is that I had no problems, the applications are working well, and it is a nice piece of software for Amazon's $40 price tag. Good luck!

Put on your seat belt and be prepared for a crash !!
My PC Specs: Windows XP, Pentium IV 2.66Ghz, 768MB RAM.

I bought this product and installed it with its default (Supposedly the safest) options.

After using the PC for a while I shut it down normally. Later when I started it, it gave me a Windows 'We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start properly..blah blah blah' error. I started it in safe mode and booted it. Worked fine this time.

The next day when I started the PC the Windows message re-appeared. And this time it stuck for good. My PC just would not start normally. I tried everything possible, applied some fixes available from their site, contacted their technical support who told me to uninstall the viruscan and reboot(what good is an Internet Suite if virusscan is disabled ?) and nothing worked.

Now I'm writing this review after having done a complete System restore to be able to start my PC.

Ironically this product that is supposed to protect my PC from hackers, trojans and system crashes itself crashed the system.

If you think I'm just a disgruntled consumer or that it was some error on my part...put on your seat belt before you install this product on your PC. Better still gift it to someone whom you dislike.

Only thing more efficient would have been to unplug cable
I have fought this and fought this and fought this...it kills me to have spent this money and not be able to use the product.

I think the anti-virus stuff works.

I think the firewall works.

The privacy service and spamkiller....oh my goodness. I have turned down the controls and turned down the controls to try and let me surf and get emails. I would put people on my "Friends" list and spamkiller would STILL block them. I would then go "rescue message" and it would delete the message altogether.

The privacy service...I still haven't figured that one out. I turned the controls down to where it was for all intents and purposes OFF. STILL could not look at my business webpage stats because it uses pop-ups. So I went to "Log off Privacy Service" - still could not get stats. I ended up having to go to the Windows Task Manager and kill the process guarddog.exe AND ONLY THEN would my webpages work right.

If you don't have concerns about spyware, use Norton. I'm about ready to switch back anyway.

Good Overall, just don't install the privacy service.
I was choosing between Norton and Mcafee and finally ended up with the latter since it was cheaper when I bought it. Everything worked out fine for the first 3 months. After that however, everything went wrong. It started with error messages whenever my internet explorer closes an adobe file. Then, it progressively got worse. Now, almost everytime I click a link which pops-up a new window, my explorer hangs. Thinking that it has something to do with ad-blocking and cookie-blocking, I disabled these features. But that did not work. I found out that holding down the control key while clicking a link solved the problem PARTIALLY. But then I got fed up with the still contionous hangs in the majority of websites I visit. Fortunately, I read somewhere in the reviews that most of the problems are caused by the privacy service included with the suite, so I uninstalled the privacy service and everything went back to normal. BOTTOM LINE: don't install the privacy service and just use the internet explorer's privacy settings instead. As for the firewall and virusscan, they get the job done.

Plain and Simple - Stinks
I was reluctant when I purchased this. however, since there aren't too many alternatives I decided to buy it. You should believe every negative comment you read about this McAfee product. I installed it on my Dell with windows xp. pROBLEMS TOO NUMEROUS TO EVEN GET INTO. I emailed customer support over a week ago and have still not received a response. I tried calling but its expensive. My computer keeps crashing and freezing up, something which never happened before. I think the only reason why this product might sell is because there isnt too much competition. Saved my sanity and my computer!
I was getting about 15 pop-ups every half hour. It was making me crazy when I'd be typing an email to a friend, and all of a sudden my typing would stop because my screen turned into a pop-up. I would have to close out the sometimes 2 or more pop-ups, and go back to where I was typing. I actually went to their website, www.stopzilla.com, and purchased a years subscription at $19.95 and downloaded their program. Since installing it today, it has stopped all pop-ups on my screen. I am in heaven and highly recommend this company for getting rid of your pop-ups! They also have great customer service!

Fantastic!
Blocks all of the pop ups while running completely behind the scenes - I never have to worry about it. Could not ask for a better product.

Does what it claims to, but misses the cause.
First of all, this software _does_ stop pop-ups; as can many other completely free programs.

However I think the approach of blocking pop-ups is completely missing the point.
Why bother killing the individual bee, (the pop-up ad), when you can take out the cause, the bee hive (spyware/adware).

In my experience, if you are already protecting yourself from spyware, you shouldn't be getting a lot of pop-ups, unless you are visiting unsavory sites or using file swapping programs. To protect yourself from spyware, there are many fine programs available including; Ad Aware, Spybot, and Spyware Blaster. Try these out and you will see the number of pop-ups you get decline dramatically.

Not worth it
Bought Stopzilla. Uninstalled it - caused too many problems and didn't work well besides. Just received another charge for $29.95 for what I don't know... Still trying to reach someone about it...

Pop-Up Stopper does the job for the most part.....
I just installed this software a couple of days ago and it actually does stop pop-up ads while playing a cool sound-byte of your choice (such as a bomb exploding, toilet flushing, etc...) The only disappointing thing that I found out AFTER I installed it is that it only works with Microsoft Internet Explorer and NOT with Netscape. Also, it does not work with the AOL built-in browser, so if that is your primary means of surfing the net (like it is for me), then this software won't help you. ... This is the info I wish I had before I purchased this software.

It works quite well
This is the main program that I use to stop pop ups and I've found that it works very well for both Internet Explorer and Netscape. I also suggest downloading the "Spybot" software which will help prevent some pop-ups that are based on what sites you are surfing (Spybot blocks their spying capabilities) as this is the one area where I've found that "Pop-Up Stopper" doesn't always work.

i used this program for a few weeks.. works ok .. but i then got the google tool bar for free i like its pop up stopper better.. check it out its free...

Excellent - Solves All My Popup Problems

Don't Buy It!
This program doesn't work. You can't permanently turn off the sounds (they are really annoying) and it doesn't filter out emails where you've added words to the filter list. Other than that it works just fine (heavy sarcasm). Don't buy it. Just consider me another sucker for their ads. Here, take my $30 based on your false advertisements and call me gullible.

They have NO customer service
My Pop-up blocker worked pretty well, but my virus protection still hasn't been activated (although they charged my credit card). I've e-mailed 5 times, but there don't seem to be any humans working there. There are absolutely no phone numbers to call for help.
DON'T BUY SAFEWORLD

Stay clear of Safeworld
This Spam and Pop-Up Blocker product is bad. It only cut in half the amount of pop-ups. It refuses to allow any gameplay whatsoever. Like a virus, it cannot be removed. Technical support is non-existant. You and your computer would be better off burning your money as opposed to buying any Safeworld product.

Never worked
I never got this program to work. I have emailed Safeworld twice in four weeks and have not received any type a response. What a waste of $30!!!!

This Software is bad news
Every since I loaded this program I have had problem,the pop-up part never did work. I cannot shut down my computer unless I activate Windows Task Master and end the Safeworld problem,I have tried every thing to unstall the program, after I got it off my desktop I unstalled it from add/remove(control panel)and it still restrick my shutdown,it's still in Task Master,and every 3 minutes I get an error message from it. I e-mailed their customer service, I got one answer back saying someone would get intouch with me, they never did and now my e-mail to them just comes back. avoid like the plague!
I have Windows ME and using this product has caused constant problems on my system. Functions you take for granted on your computer wil start to disappear! I only bought it because Amazon was practically giving it away with a rebate, now I see why. This mechanic is bad news!

System Mechanic
This is bad software! I lost most all of my programs and files using this trash on my DeskPro running Windows 98. I had run it several times before; however, the last time it ran uncontrolled until I noticed a runaway situation. By the time I hit cancel, which did not work, it had wiped out about 80% of my programs and files. Avoid this trash product!

Simply works, and works well
I have an XP system. I can stand by the product. It works. From clenaing the internet clutter , to increasing the Internet speed, to removing junl obselete files. It did not corrupt anything on my machine..like so many programs of this type do. The best part is the windows startup manager. It really speeds up the computer if you can lookinto it and stop unwanted progarms from running.

Not worth the money! Software can cause some problems.
I purchased this product and used it for some time. I then used the Registry tool and the next day I found out that my windows xp operating system was messed up. Microsoft Picture and Fax Viewer got messed up and my computer was missing some files. I do not recomment this product. Use Norton Systemworks instead.

Some useful features...
The internet optimization feature was helpful, as was the registry tool, but most other settings aren't that much of a help. I consider myself a power user (I'm a programmer), and there are much better tools than this one...
