2-0 out of 5 stars I am glad to own it, but I am not taking it to the Prom.
As they would say on American Bandstand, I would give this title a 65 - the lyrics are ok but its easy to dance to. I do A LOT of pdf crap (and i hate pdf) both converting too and from. For some conversions (NOT COMPLEX GRAPHICS) it works well, for others it is so-so.
It does do a BETTER job, converting from pdf - at least on the long, complex-formated text documents - which are my primary beast of burden, than Adobe PRO 6.0. Howver Scansoft has some quirk's that potential buyers need to be aware of -
1. It messes up haeaders and footers - it captures them just fine but puts them in funky places as a table and of couse screws up the page numbering,,,
2. On occasion (and this is the frustrating part) it converts text into graphics,,,
3. It handles check boxes and the other vbs features of WORD poorly, often creating them as graphics
4. It routeinely messes up autonumbering, again often picking up a number and making it a graphic
However, having said all that - it is quicker/faster/better than Adobe Pro 6.0. for Word conversions. Sometimes its a dozen hand fixes per page, other times one or two, but i will gladly trade that for rekeying or scanning.
For the record, I have an old version of Omni-Pro and DID NOT try to use its features as suggested.
I am glad I own it but I dont think I am taking it to the prom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally
It's about time that someone came out with this product! PDF files are so difficult to deal with, and our firm often has no way to track down the original. PDF Converter is fast and gets all of us back into Word so we can make adjustments. We've been using it for contracts, but I'm sure it would work great for any files. Documents look perfect. Great Product!

2-0 out of 5 stars PDF Converter with Potential
Having used this product on large (more than 500 pages) and complex documents, my conclusion is that this could be a very good product. Unfortunately, the software has some logic flaws that cause it to fail repeatedly on specfic text formatting. For example, consider the following listing:
a. Data Element
b. Data Element Tag
c. Element Number
d. Group Number
The application always fails on this and similar listings by randomly deleting the new paragraph marker and setting the right margin incorrectly. Too bad that Scansoft support, which could alert developers to this type of problem, is the worst I have ever encountered. Perhaps someone from Scansoft will read this review and fix this problem and other problems encountered by customers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Stumbles on Complex Documents
I downloaded this software to convert a two-page PDF document into an editable Word 2000 document. Much of the text converted well but the more complex areas of my PDF file, those that were contained inside of tables, were poorly done. Portions of it were rendered as images(!), while other parts came through properly as text inside of tables. However, much of that text was inside of frames, or even nested frames. Frames are Word objects that are tricky at best, and frustratingly hard to deal with at worst. Removing a frame often removes its contained text as well. Either way, editing the converted document so as to make it look like the original was very difficult. In the case of the portions that converted to images, it was impossible.
The product installs/uninstalls easily and seems to run well. If you're converting simple PDF files, this product may do the job but for complex documents, especially ones containing tables, I would not recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Those Dreaded PDFs
Yes, it converts pdf files to word. No, it does not do a perfect job if you have tables or graphics; and the formatting tends to get messed up. BUT...it sure beats retyping a multi-page document.

And those protected word files? I have found that if you make them pdf and then convert them back to Word with this program, you now have a document that you can edit. Yaaaah!!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked - barely
About five years ago I purchased Laplink Technical to move my files from my old laptop to my new Dell desktop computer. It worked perfectly the first time. This time I purchased PCMover to move my files from my old Dell (running ME) to my new Dell (running XP). After several days of struggles I did manage to get my files transferred, but not without a LOT of problems.

First of all, the software refused to recognize my Home Network linking my two Dell computers. I happily moved files back and forth between the computers using copy and paste so the network works perfectly. PCMover would not, under any circumstances, recognize the link, so I was forced to
use the enclosed USB cable - a slower way to transfer the files.

PCMover compressed the files before transfer but it is a resource HOG. I have a small program running that monitors my memory and PCMover drained the memory all the way down fast, then slowed the computer, then eventually crashed my old computer over, and over, and over again. I had to transfer 26gb of data and I had about 10-15 computer lockups and it took several days to move all the data.

Laplink...how can you let this product out the door like this? Eventually, I used my Home Network to move most of my files from the old computer to the new one so PCMover wouldn't have to do much work, and still it crashed my old computer. In the wee hours of the morning this morning I finally got PCMover to finished its task and now my new computer is running fine. I would have tried to use my old copy of Laplink Tech but I couldn't find the old software box, so that was why I bought PCMover thinking it would be an improvement over Laplink Tech and would be compatible with XP.

If I could have turned compression off I suspect the transfer would have gone well without crashing my old computer but this was NOT an option. Also, the sofware tries to be "cute" by referring to its operations in "moving van" terms. When the files are being transferred it's called "unloading the van". This is NOT funny when the process is crashing the computer.

My suggestions to Laplink - fix the bug that prevents the software from using the network connection, have the compression be an option, and don't try to be cute by using "moving van" terms. If you get the software it will eventually work and I hope your experience with it goes better than my experience. ... Read more

Adobe Type Manager Deluxe lets you organize your PostScript Type 1, OpenType, and TrueType fonts to suit the way you work. You can easily activate only the fonts or font sets you need, and then deactivate them when you're finished. Add fonts and create custom sets, and get crisp, clean output from any printer. When you create font sets for use in one-off documents, you can make them temporary by specifying that they should be deactivated or deleted from ATM Deluxe when you restart your system. For recurring document-creation jobs, you can create permanent font sets that will be automatically activated, or remain in their current state, at restart. The program automatically notifies you when a newly added font is a duplicate and makes it easy to view and remove all duplicate instances. You can print a sample page or use the pop-up menus to preview additional fonts. You can also print a one-line listing of fonts in a specified set. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great font manager

4-0 out of 5 stars Version 8.2
I've got Version 8.2 and have had none of the problems mentioned in previous reviews. I've tried all the big names (itunes, napster, realjukebox, windows media player) and this is my software of choice.

Faster rip & burn than the others makes it #1 with me!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Quirky: When it functions properly, it's decent.
The first MMJ version 7.5 functioned properly. MMJ suggested an upgrade to 8.0 with a fee ($19) and an upgrade key. After the upgrade, MMJ bombed: MMJ Server problems, screen freezes, hangs and plenty of reboots. Because I was able to burn 36 songs, I uninstalled MMJ (the initial downloaded version) and purchased the boxed version for an additional $30. I've downloaded more than 100 great classic songs (another $100) and frankly MMJ needs to modify their software. The boxed version MMJ, with ANOTHER upgrade to download, burned 4 cds and then crashed again. MMJ Tech support frankly wasn't helpful. Online message boards/forums state MMJ is prone to popups, registry corruption and spyware that interferes and/or corrupts MMJ. Jeez gents can't your programmers solve your software issues? MMJ 8.2 is a decent program when it functions. However, in its present form, it's a software crap shoot. I still use MMJ 8.2 plus but I run spyware/adware and registry correction software after 3 uses and each time we find spyware/adware and changes to the windows registry. Jeeez. MMJ fix the glitch; make more money. Satisfy customers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Depends on one's expectations
Unlike most of the others who took the time to review this product, I have to say that I found it to be everything I hoped it would be. I was in the process of thinning out my cd collection and was looking for a program that would allow me to turn all of the songs my one hit wonder cd's into MP3's and this software delivered exactly that. I like the way it organizes the music and can honestly say that it has done everything I asked of it. I think the difference between myself and the other reviewers is that I have only a marginally effective grasp of the inner workings of my computer. My expectations were naturally lower, and I have to call myself a satisfied customer.

1-0 out of 5 stars What kind of Music software is this ?
I bought the program about a week ago, and now know why one user described it(in a former review) "userunfriendly and Junk"
Not only caused it system-problems on my PC but it is also the most confusing and unreliable music program which i have ever worked with. I could only guess, why it got 5 Stars on a other review. But after reading the Review several times again and again, i realized, "who" probably wrote the 5 Star review.

1-0 out of 5 stars MusicMatch Does Not Deliver
MusicMatch Jukebox Deluxe 8 did not deliver as promised. The enclosed software did not display properly; though, a download of EarthLink's co-branded MusicMatch software fixed the interface problem. The promised three month trial of MusicMatch MX Gold using the User ID and Password supplied on the CD envelope resulted in nothing: no trial period, no upgrade to CD quality sound from MusicMatch Radio and no access to MusicMatch MX ArtistMatch. I had been pleased with the free MusicMatch Jukebox software, even with its limitations; I am very unsatisfied with the buggy software and false promises of the purchased software.
UPDATE: Worked with MusicMatch customer service to try to correct my issues. Although they were very pleasant, they were not able to figure out how to offer the three month trial period to MusicMatch MX Gold. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT PURCHASE!!!
The Alohabob PC Relocator is horrible! I just purchased to transfer files to a new laptop and the operation transfer takes over a day. The box misleads the customer to believe the alohabob high speed cable is included. Instead the slowest possible cable is included. Of course, once the product is opened its almost impossible to return or even exchange for the Ultra which is $40 higher. The alohabob cable, cuts time down to hours, is not sold separately. Shady, shady company! Buyer beware.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slow but Simple
This software is not top of the line.. therefor isn't promoted as such... or priced as such. I was very pleased with the outcome of it's use. The install was fast and simple (and I was only working with one monitor between two PCs). Transfer time was a bit lengthy but WELL worth the while. I suspect that maybe the other users who had problems were either not very knowledgeable about taking on such a task by themselves... OR they had pre-existing PC problems.

I recommend this (for the money).

(In quick reference to another review here - nowhere does this product state that it comes with a USB cable for transfer - that comes with the pricier PC transfer software kits - and NO alterations to your PC are necessary).

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful waste of money
This is the worst software I've ever purchased. It's supposed to make it easy to transfer files and settings from your previous computer. Instead, it took me more time to try to set it up to work, than it would have taken to transfer everything manually. For one thing, the box comes with two obscure cables - a network transfer cable and a high-speed parallel cable called the "Aloha Bob" cable which requires you to make changes to your
BIOS just to use it. It does NOT come with a USB cable!!! When I tried to use my own USB cable, the drivers were incompatible with Windows XP, and there were no updated drivers on the website, only a comment that you can "ignore the XP message that tells you not to install the driver." Ignoring that message doesn't make the driver work. Finally, once I opened the software (which prevents you from returning it to the retailer, of course), I discovered the program doesn't even put your data files into the right place - at least not as far as I could tell from the documentation. Instead, it takes all your Word files, for example, and puts them in a "Word Files" folder. Don't waste your money!

1-0 out of 5 stars PC Relocator
Terrible product. Tried to upgrade via internet to get a better version and still had mega problems. Not able to transfer information. Spent many frustrating hours on this.Am currently trying to get my money back. Need to find a user friendly product. Worst software we have had since owning a computer! Do not buy. Wish I would have looked at Amazon first.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money
I purchased this product, never worked at all, I contacted the company to return for credit, took 2 Faxes, 3 Emails and 2 Phone calls and 2 weeks later they email me and tell me it will take 3 more weeks to start paperwork for return. I plan on reporting them to BBB and Atty. General Sate of Florida.
Do yourself a favor and don't purchase this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars worked like junk for me
I'd rate it -1 if that choice were availble. I should have read the
Amazon.com reviews before buying this product at CompUSA. And I should have
expected nothing from a name like AloaBob, and I should have known that
when it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. It was an impulse
buy - seemed like such a good idea when I saw it on the shelf. My task was
to move about 5 GB of files from a W98 computer to a new XP Pro computer,
both computers have C&D drives. I ran scandisk on the W98 unit and Norton
utilities on both computers to be sure there was no existing structural
problems. All data was in two folders named data and photos on the source
computer. 1st problem was the USB connection didn't work - but the network
did. Then I spent two hours trying to tell PC Relocator to not transfer
programs and that I just wanted to transfer the two folders. It wouldn't
alow transfer of Outlook mail files, Internet Explorer favorites or MMoney
files. It doesn't have a spreadsheet sort of selector page like one would
expect from a windows program, it has an archaic
select-one-regenerate-look-again-select-again sort of interface. When it
made the transfers it jumbled up the sub folders and in some cases put
files from several foldes into one, some folders were missing, . .. in
short, a complete mess. In the end I had to tranfer my 5 gb manually
anyway. On top of that, the source computer then would hang instead of
shutdown (tried it 3 times to be sure) until I deleted the program. I found
it a time waster, not a time saver.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good relocation experience (Win2K Pro -> WinXP Pro)
Seems like people are really polarized around this software. For me it worked really well. Before buying it, I contacted Eisenworld tech support and asked them about various applications that I cared about (particularly Adobe Illustrator and VMWare). They responded within a day, and told me Illustrator would work, and they weren't certain about VMWare.

I bought the PC Relocator Ultra Control version of the product, and migrated my apps and data from my Windows 2000 Pro laptop (running a seriously damaged version of Windows - due to viruses and four years of bitrot) to a new Dell machine runnning XP Pro. I selected the option to transfer everything via TCP/IP over my home network.

Apart from an odd error message at one point (it looked like Aloha Bob was trying to read one of its own documentation files from my source machine and failing to find it), the transfer went smoothly. I successfully transferred MS Office, Adobe Illustrator, Quicken, and several other applications that I use heavily. Sure enough, VMWare did not transfer properly (if anyone has a successful experience transferring VMWare from one machine to another please let me know). But I can't really fault Eisenworld for that. Their application delivered what they promised it would, and by spending $70 I rescued several hundred dollars worth of software.

So I'm pretty happy. I'd recommend this software. If anyone else has a bad experience and wants to write a review, please mention which method you used to transfer the data. Maybe TCP/IP is the only reliable one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good preparation is the Key
I have a Win 98 laptop with minor keyboard probelms. Since it might get worse with the time being and I want to upgrade to a WinXP PC, I went out to get a new desktop. At the store I was told to get Alohabob PC Relocator Ultra Control(Later I found out---Funny name yet does serious job).

I installed the program and used a USB cable. It did not seem to connect with the new PC at first.I was wondering why, becasue the set up was kind of straight forward. Later I found out that I did not get the lastest version of PC Relocator Ultra. So I downloaded the latest version on my old laptop and burn it on a CD. Get the update on the target as well. I learn new things everyday: ALWAYS get latest updates on softwares. And the tech guys there were kind enough to walk me through the connection process. I was told that preparation is the key to success migrations. So I stop what I was doing, came up a clear list of the things I want to transfer. With the suggestions from tech support, I filter out things that I should install manaully myself, things such as drivers and freewares. Then I went back to finished up the migration. Guess what, it worked beautifully. My email was transfer over and some applications that I no longer have the CDs. I was totally amazed on the result.
Now I can totally understand why there are such good and bad reviews for PC Relocator. I am glad that I have some good experience with this product.
Sugggestions:
1)Make sure you are running the latest version
2)Preparation is the Key: knowing what you want to transfer and what/how things can be transfer

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH THE MONEY
After two or three unsuccessful tries to get this program to load properly, I gave it one more try. It finally loaded, then it would not recognize the USB connection. Gave some kind of communication error with the cable. One more try, and I was finally able to communicate. Went thru the process of picking the files to be transferred and the program came back with a description of which files will transfer and which ones would not.

To my surprise, of the 27 programs I wanted to transfer, only 1 was give a "High" probability, 2 were given "Medium" probability, 4 were given "Low" probability, and 20 were given "Will not transfer".

What a rip-off. Don't waste your money on this junk.

If you are upgrading your system to Windows XP, it has it's own file transfer feature built-in. Just go to Start, Program, Accessories, Tools and pick the File Transfer Function.

This product simply does not work. I tried to migrate from a desktop PC running XP Home to a laptop running XP Pro. I followed the instructions to the letter, but the software would not recognize the USB bridge cable even though the computer would. When I tried to run the program, it would lock up the machine and I would have to do a hard reboot. Also, when I updated the software version from the alohabob website, I could not uninstall the program after that. Do not buy this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing and simple! But limited options if not using Outlook
Initially, I had low expectations for this program as my previous spam filter only filtered about half of my spam. Over the course of two days SpamCatcher caught 224 out of 230 spam email messages (97%!!). As you can imagine, I was very impressed.

SpamCatcher comes in two flavors. There is an integrated Outlook version which adds a button in Outlook and a Universal option for basically any other POP mail program (eg. Eudora, Netscape, etc.). I use Pegasus Mail and the program works flawlessly with it. There is a slight initial delay every time I check email (2-10 sec), but otherwise there is no noticeable slow down (DSL connection, Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz. Notebook computer).

The program uses a variety of methods to detect spam, ranging from fuzzy logic to heuristics. However, the most powerful tool of the program might be their SpamCatcher Network (over 1 million strong according to the box). This network works by having people report spam that aren't filtered. This is entered into their database so that other users will now have that spam filtered. If you use Outlook, you can report spam emails that didn't get caught to the SpamCatcher network, but if you aren't using Outlook, you can still check your email against the network.

The program has other features such as an approved and blocked list of emails/domains, or the ability to "bounce" an email back to the sender (Outlook only).

I get a lot of spam everyday, and this program brings order to my inbox. While SpamCatcher is fairly basic in terms of options, it works. And that's what matters most.

I highly recommend it. ... Read more
