1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong Product for panther
I can't get the microphone to even record. I think this version is incompatible with Panther, or I may have a faulty product. I am a very experienced Mac user and actually read manuals and web sites for support. It's possible that the correct product is actually IBM ViaVoice for Mac X USB, v. 3. It's a $30 upgrade from this version. Neither Scansoft nor Amazon makes this clear from looking at this page!

To give this product a fair review, it needs to be repesented correctly on this site as not being the latest version for Mac.

If I am wrong about this, I will correct it in a further review very soon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Has never worked well in OS X
Due to a spinal cord injury, my hands do not work. Obviously, typing is difficult, especially extended word processing. I use my computer 8-10 hours/day for work, email, etc., and frequently need to type more than a few lines. So, Viavoice seems to be the obvious choice for me. I have owned viavoice and each upgrade since the first version. Despite updates, this program has never worked well on OS X. On a few occasions I have gotten it to operate briefly, but usually it crashes, fails to open, does not respond, or dissappoints me in some other way.

Training the program is a long process, and the fact that I cannot use it now is ridiculous. I consider myself a mac expert, and use many programs. I have never been more frustrated with a program than I am with this one. Support is poor, and updaters are few-and don't help.

Save your money and more importantly your time-don't buy this program.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
I don't have much to say, except the negative commments are all wrong. Windows XP, handled a 35,000 word file no problem or errors. Great value. I think maybe other pdf vendors are making these comments. Contrary to one website review, the file size was no different to other products tested either. If you have the money, get the Adobe product. Otherise, this is 90% there, for a fraction the cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
If you need or want to create PDF (Portable Document Format) files this is a great product. It's easy to install and it just works. I was able to create several pdf documents using MS Word an Excel with embedded graphics within two minutes. It really is that easy to use. Before you spend the extra money on Acrobat, try PDF Producer.

By the way, you need Windows 2000, XP Home or Pro to run PDF Producer. It will not work on a Win 98SE or lower system. I am running it on a XP Home machine and it works perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars What is the mater with you?
PDF PRODUCER is in receivership and you should know (it). Open Data Becker and learn. Some of us loved that product and will have to "eat" the $50.00 purchase price. What should we do? That is the question?

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked great for me.
Okay, it's april 2004 and I just found out a couple weeks ago that the Data Becker company appears to have gone under.

That is probably why so many other reviewers expressed problems with tech support.

So, while I have had good luck with this product, your situation may be different.
Therefore, I would NOT buy it, unless you can get it at a clearance price.

I have bought and now own about 10 different Data Becker titles.
Most were bought at clearance prices.
But ALL products I got from Data Becker have worked GREAT for me.

So sad to see another Deutsch company gone under.
Just goes to show that good products do not guarantee success.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works As Advertised!
I came across this product while looking for a low cost alternative to Acrobat and was quite pleased to see how well its worked. Its simply a print driver that creates a PDF instead of printing a document. The install is quick and the product barely takes up any room on my computer! I initially had some problems with an older version, but the tech support team pointed me to a patch which resolved my problem before I could get worried about it! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Program Crashes Very Frequently
I bought this SW to burn VHS source material onto DVDs. Prior to burning, the program performs its rendering of the clips. 9 times out of 10 the program hangs after a few hours of rendering. The one time it did not hang, I killed the program since it was only 10% done with a two hour video after 4 hours of processing. The Product is useless!
I am using Windows XP and have 1 GHz Pentium 4 Processor.

1-0 out of 5 stars There are better options available
I would not recommend the purchase of this product to anyone. It does not perform all of the functions that the packaging leads you to believe. And, tech support is virtually non-existant, so trying to get any assistance from the company is an effort in futility. If you do choose to purchase this product, I sincerely hope that you have better luck than I did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Mac is an Island
My gal Sara bought this because she's been a Mac person forever (I'm a former Window's person, who's made the switch) and has been used to using ResEdit to design her own icons under System 7 through 9. So now she's at it again, changing, rearranging and creating icons and I have to say, it's infectious. Who says the boys in Cupertino have to have the last say on what your desktop is going to look like. Want Microsoft Word to appear as a devil on the screen. You got it. You also get a thousand free icons with the program to start. Good ones. Macs have always been unique, now they are more so. Thumbs up from me for CandyBar Plus.

1-0 out of 5 stars This was a waste of money
I should have read the others reviews. This software does not handle multiple identities and multiple users for the same computer. My computer was a mess after using this software. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money and time
Well I definitly would not recommend buying this product. It did not move anything I wanted it to and everything I didnt want it to. theres got to be a better solution for transfering files

2-0 out of 5 stars Works....partially
I bought this program chiefly because I had lots of MP3s that I wanted to move to my new iBook from my old PC.I was also glad to get my documents, pictures, etc on the new computer, but what I wanted most was to avoid re-downloading all that music. So of course, I got Move2Mac to move everything except my music. It did not appear to recognize that I had anything in my music folder on my PC, and therefore did not move the hundreds of MP3s.I tried everything I could think of--and spent a good few hours on it--and then gave up.Considering that they advertise that it moves everything including music files, I was pretty annoyed.I don't know whether others have had this problem; maybe I'm the only one.But if you mostly want to move music, there is probably a better and less expensive way!

2-0 out of 5 stars Works well the first time; one-use software
I used Move2Mac to migrate my Windows sytem to my new iMac. Everything worked as it should. However, this software is licensed for one-use only. Detto does not disclose this anywhere on the box (surprise). It will not allow you to install it twice. So, consider connecting Ethernet to Ethernet before buying this product. It is rather expensive considering you will only use it once.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Great!
I was concerned about how I was going to move my files from my PC to my new iMAC, especially without a CD burner on my PC.Move2Mac worked great, quickly moving the files I designated to my iMAC quickly and with only one minor problem.Just be sure to connect the included cable to the iMAC FIRST..then connect to PC...I had to go onto the Detto web site to find this out after much anxiety...worked great after that!I would highly recommend this product..expecially if that old PC you're replacing doesn't have a CD burner! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Be Warned!!
When it's working, this is a wonderful product.

If you are using XP and backing up to a drive within your computer, then you should be fine.

If you are thinking to backup to another drive in a home network, then the documentation bares little resemblance to the reality. There are three sources of info: 1) The PDF manual on the install disk 2) The online 'knowledgebase' and 3)Help on the program itself.

There are several option you can only select or edit upon installation, so reading the documentation is important but still inadequate, with choices and boxes not referred to anywhere. Choose the wrong one, and you're back to square one.

In addition, unless you are *very* intimate with XP file sharing, groups and networks, you will be asked to pay support $29.95 for them to "teach you" Windows networking, and despite their assurances, there is no direct references to these in the Microsoft knowledgebase. This is very frustrating and Symantec buying Powerquest has left me to the whims of a "More than my job's worth" "Support Nazi" on the end of the support phone. Wouldn't even walk me through installation!
Very sad.

They should just charge another $20 for the product (it's worth it when working) and have done with it. I refuse to be nickeled and dimed to death.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please dont buy this garbage.
So you have lost some data due to hard drive failure or accidentally messing something up. That was me 10 months ago.
I started my "PowerQuest" for backup software. TahDah! Powerquest Drive Image 7, from a reputable online retailer. I read all the reviews and although hesitant plunked my $70 bucks down and got it. After reading all the info I could based on the amazon reviews here and the symantec support website, I proceded to install. All went well and I updated to the latest patch and made my first image. Great! Then I got the bright idea of trying out the backup. So I deleted a couple things and proceded to reboot to the backup cd set (cd-r spanning 5 disks.) All went fine and 25 min later I was rebooting, well I tried to reboot. Ended up wiping out what I set out to protect. After the 3hr rebuild process I decided not to try again. Symantec promises a 60 day satifaction guarentee so I asked for my money back following proper procedure as outlined on their support site. It's been 16 weeks and now support has forwarded my refund inquires to corporate (promised 48 hrs response time) its been a week and still no response to my refund inquiries. Glad I photocopied all materials I sent for the refund. Buyer beware.

1-0 out of 5 stars Powerquest is Dead
Powerquest was famous for creating excellent software. This changed when Symantec acquired them. Fanatical support is gone -- questions and bug reports go unanswered now. It used to be that you'd hear back from the developers when you found the software doing something unexpected; it was clear that they cared about their product. Now you get stonewalling PR people trying to convince you that you should blame HP, Microsoft, your drive manufacturer, anyone but them when you discover that the program is creating invalid backup files. I had to create a program to restructure the backup files myself in order to recover my data!

Sorry, guys. It was great while it lasted, but the 2002 version was the last solid version of this program. It's like you were having a brilliant conversation with Einstein, and just as it's getting good, someone replaces him with Carrot Top.

Now, I'd rather use the simplistic backup software that comes with Windows XP. It may be minimal, but at least it works!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!
I purchased DI 7 because of the accolades it supposedly received. I knew I was going to need it since I was going to be getting a new hard drive for my failing hard-drive in my Dell laptop. At first, I was impressed how easy it was to backup my C:/ drive from my laptop to an external firewire hard drive. I even tested the Recovery Environment as it suggested, and that seemed to work without a hitch.

Then the day came that I replaced my old hard drive with a new hard drive. I started out doing a bare metal recovery as it touts it can do effortlessly.... It didn't work. It gave me an error that my hard drive was not readable. So, I thought, I could just reinstall XP and then restore everything after I had the basic OS up and running. I tried it that way, and same result. Nothing.

I consider myself an advanced computer user.... I know how to partition, reformat drives, etc etc.... All I wanted was an application that would make my life easier as the software said it would. It turns out I wasted $69.00 on this usless software. I guess I'll keep looking for another drive imaging application, because Drive Image 7 isn't worth squat. Good luck.

1-0 out of 5 stars Software is a junk
Because of this software I have to rebuild my computer. Nothing works. Even the basic user interface changes size everytime I reopen this software.
I paid to get this headache. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Slows down the computer!
The main problem with this software is that it boggs down the computer while you're surfing the net. Pages that used to come down in 3 seconds took 15 seconds or more to come down. I eventually just uninstalled it because it was driving my kid crazy. I bought CyberSitter instead and that's working great.

2-0 out of 5 stars Loaded with features but poor on delivery
If name recognition was all that mattered, Net Nanny would win hands down. It is probably the best known parental control software out there.

But as with anything, name isn't everything.

At first glance, Net nanny is quite impressive. It has a host of features that any parent, seeking to protect their children from pornography and predators on the internet, would find useful. Among them are:

Site blocking, to prevent kids for accessing sites with objectionable or pornographic content. (Net Nanny Contains a long list of prohibited sites which users may add to the list if they wish.); E-mail and Instant Messenger monitoring, to protect against predators; blocking of Newsgroups and file sharing clients; Content blocking and censoring to prevent kids from reading content with objectionable language, including a list of words users can add to; and Internet usage blocking to block out when a child may or may not use the internet. It even has a feature to prevent kids from changing the computer's clock to get around it.

All of these features seemed to work fine for the most part (see below). Web sites on the restricted list were indeed blocked, and the content censoring worked quite well. Net Nanny automatically censors objectionable language as the web pages load, replacing restricted words with Number signs: ########.

Net Nanny's features all are quite useful, but Net Nanny has some downsides more than make up for them. For the record, my computer is an AMD Athlon XP 2100 running Windows 98.

One of the first things I noticed when I started using Net Nanny was that my internet connection suddenly began to lag. The computer I used it on is connected to dial-up, which is not quick to begin with. With Net Nanny installed, pages that had taken 3 seconds to come up before were taking 10 to 15 seconds longer, sometimes more. While this might not seem like much, when a user is doing browsing or web searches, this lag time can add up quickly.

In addition, some web pages didn't even come up at all, instead showing a blank internet window, causing me to have to hit the refresh button to get the page to load properly. This wasn't for sites with objectionable content; this was for normal sites that Net Nanny should have had no problem with. While this problem didn't happen for most page loads, it happened often enough that it became a nuisance.

What was even worse than clean sites not loading properly was Net Nanny's tendency to allow pages to be shown, even though they had objectionable content. Net Nanny would give a warning message and proceed to load the page anyway. Sometimes it would display the message on a completely innocent website with no objectionable content at all, leaving me bewildered, wondering what was wrong with it. This only happened with sites that were not on Net Nanny's list of restricted sites. Restricted sites WERE blocked properly, but since sites with objectionable content on the net are endless, this understandably made me wonder if it was working properly. I'm not sure if this was an intentional design feature (to get around blocking innocent sites l;ike news reports, etc) or a flaw in the program itself.

Another issue I came across is that Net Nanny appears to slow down the computer altogether. Whenever the machine accessed the internet, my mouse stuttered across the screen. Other programs acted in much the same manner, making multitasking difficult and annoyingly jumpy. This problem was perhaps the most aggravating of what I've listed so far, and enough to make me uninstall the program.

Worst of all, now that I've removed Net Nanny from my computer, some of these issues are still occuring. I had no problem prior to installing Net Nanny, so I can only assume it left pieces of itself on my computer.

Bottom line, look for a parental control program other than Net Nanny. It's not worth the aggravation. I know that I wish I'd checked for reviews before I bought it. It seems that I'm not alone with these issues.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
This program is awful. It is not worth the money. My parents bought this programme for me and my younger brother, and I do not think its worth it. Since then, they have turned it off my user and told me the password, so I use it for my brother- but say when I was using word to write a world war two project, and I typed in "bomb" it closed the program down, and when I typed in the password, nothing happens. It just closes the program down and wont let me back in. I dont reccomed buying this programme! There is alot of better programmes which are cheaper!

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware
Beware! I'm a teenager whose parents set this program up to protect me. It's a nightmare! It constantly pops up messages that say a site is inappropriate for me, but then it lets me in anyway. There usually is absolutely nothing bad about the site, either. Sometimes it lets me into sites that I do think are bad without complaints. Net Nanny will also display its logo across the whole screen saying the site is blocked, but let me in if I reload the site! Also, it will block out sites that I know aren't bad because it had let me into the site before. The worse thing of all, however, has to be the fact that Net Nanny will delete its memory. My father told it to allow me into a site, but then it would begin to complain. When we checked, its memory was cleaned out. It deleted its own memory! My parents, thankfully, let me have an adult's log. It sometimes blocks adults out of sites! I've seen it block my mother out of credit union sites. It also will display messages that say 'Net Nanny cannot begin filtering until someone logs in.' But someone IS logged in!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good features, terrible side effects
After downloading this software, there was a noticeable negative impact to our computer. Lock ups almost constantly, slow internet speed, and even slower response on other PC applications that should not have been impacted by this program. We were running this on a Windows 98 OS with a PIII 600mhz computer and 128m RAM. Rather disappointing.

I like this program's features but not at the expense of having to re-boot my computer constantly. I'd look elsewhere for a good Internet Protection software program. ... Read more

Overpriced and underpowered..... This software is more annoying then anything else. You practically have to turn off every setting to get your networked printers and network games to work, for example.

1-0 out of 5 stars A poorly designed product
It took me a day to install this product. If you do choose to use this product be sure to uninstall all other norton virus and internet security products even tho the instructions say that norton 2003 is uninstalled automatically--it isin't!! My computer now crashes frequently since I began using this product. My advice is to stay clear of this product until they get it fixed. One other point--don't count on getting any technical help form Symantec--they don't even have decent free help installing the product let alone using it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay as far away from this as you can....
I recommended this for my father based on my experience with previous versions. I wish I'd done some research first....

My father installed it on his desktop (a Dell running WinME) without any problems. When the system asked him to reboot, he said he'd do it later because it was late, and simply shut down the computer. The next morning he discovered the worst.

When he tried to boot up the computer, it started booting up normally, but when it got to his desktop, that's all he got - a blank desktop. No icons, no start menu, nothing. In fact, CTRL-ALT-DEL shows that nothing is running. Weird huh? Even weirder is that when he tried to go into 'Safe Mode', the exact same thing happens. I'm not sure what NIS 2004 did to his computer, but nothing short of reinstalling his entire system would get it to boot up.

Now comes the fun part - Symantec Technical Support and Customer Service. They don't exist. The only free tech support they have is email based, and run by people in India, who apparently don't speak English. I sent them email after email telling them that the system wouldn't boot up, and every time the sent back replies telling me to go to the 'Start Menu' and go here and there and do this and that. The just didn't get the fact that I couldn't load Windows.

So, I thought I'd give them a call to complain about the terrible tech support. I looked up their number on the internet and called. I got routed around the country to different phone systems, and then sat on hold for over two hours before I finally got frustrated enough to hang up and write the Better Business Bureau. Needless to say, I won't be installing this product on my own computer, and unless Symantec makes some major changes to the base program, won't be buying any more of their products.

If you're a computer guru, you might be able to get it to work, in which case this is a good program. The problem is, I'm a computer guru, and I couldn't make it work...

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money
This software won't allow my computer to access the internet. No email gets through. All web pages are inaccessible. When the problem first occurred, I disabled the software to go to Symantec's website and followed Symantec's automated online instructions to configure it. This fixed the problem for the rest of that day, but then the problem recurred the next time I rebooted. Symantec's human tech support is $30 per incident! Why should I throw bad money after good? I'm writing this off as a $40 mistake. You're better off with a $40 router and/or some freeware security software. Norton Anti-Virus may be pretty good, but the rest of this Internet Security package sucks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in California
I have been a Norton Internet Security user for years with total satisfaction. Upgrading to the 2004 version has nearly destroyed my Microsoft Outlook - it took hours to get back my previous Emails and more importantly my Address Book. It is still not as it was, but at least I can see everything. My Freecell is totally unusable. Also having problems with Word. The Symantec website has many articles to read to 'fix' what is broken by uploading the product. Too bad they didn't put as much effort into fixing it. I'm deleting this version from my computer and moving to something that will work! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Fully Realized
With just a little assistance from the help file and User Guide I was able to identify my phone (Motorola t720,) import my contacts from Outlook 2002 and transfer to my phone. Although seemingly successful, there were limitations. The transfer wiped out the phonebook on my SIM card but it didn't place any contacts there. The help file gives loose instructions to direct a contact from the DataPilot's phonebook manager on the PC to the SIM phonebook. I was unable to get this feature to work; the DataPilot's phonebook manager inevitably converted my changes and placed those contacts in the phone memory. The phonebook in the phone can store multiple numbers for a contact but the software's phonebook manager does not transfer more than one phone number per contact; though it will import up to 6 numbers from Outlook?

The calendar transfer was more successful. I was pleased with that function.

I'll investigate Motorola's pricier option... If they provide the functionality I'm looking for, I'll go for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Huge time saver
This product is owesome. Punching all the numbers by hand would have taken me hours, but instead it was a matter of seconds. Internet dial up is very convenient when I am on a business trip or out for the weekend.
Ring tone editor is not the neatest thing, but I guess is only Motorola that forces you to manually punch the ring tones. At least, the software converts the file for manual entry. That's a plus.

1-0 out of 5 stars Really bad software
I bought this product and the truth was dissapointing, I have a Motorola V60i which I could synchronize without problem, except because at the time of seeing I telephone of the directory one because they appear rare things. Now as far as the part of RINGTONES, because in my I telephone I must enter them of manually, which is too boring, but nonsingle that, if not that when reproducing them in my cellular one is listened to any thing. The truth is a bad item, I do not recommend for anything this software.
Be carefull.

1-0 out of 5 stars Neat idea - poorly executed
I purchased this product instead of the Motorola datacable because of the many neat features promised. The software provides a way to save your phone directory to the PC, edit ring tones, among other features.

However, the product is so buggy and poorly realized that it is unfortunately as waste of time and money. I tried installing the product on 2 machines, one with Windows 2k and one with Windows XP, and neither was able to communicate with the phone. In addition I had to download additional drivers and software just to get the program to install.

The instructions to install the drivers are lacking in detail, and fail to deal with the common error messages you may recieve. Lastly, the USB driver is not really USB at all, but emulates a serial port and uses one of the COM port resources.

The program has other quirks, like the inability to save the phone configuration unless the program can communicate with the phone, and some menu items that simply do not work. For example, pressing the "home" menu brought up a message that was simply "()"

Tech support is about on par with most companies these days - which means not very good. Expect to get lots of emails that simply tell you to reinstall the drivers.

All in all, this is a poorly executed product. Save your money and frustration and look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
