4-0 out of 5 stars Overall Good
Ok I searched a bunch of translators for my trip to Europe and found this one to be the best.

Don't expect to be speaking the language or translating the bible into Romanian.

It is good if you have a background in a language and need something to help out your vocabulary. It takes about 5 to 10 seconds to find the word you are looking for and translate it into whatever language you desire.

More popular languages or those more broadly spoken have a much larger volume of words. Overall if you are traveling to Europe or parts of Asia it would be difficult to find a word you could not translate. I wish I had this when I was in school for both my spanish and german classes.

Cons: You don't transfer all 20+ languages onto your handheld, rather you pick which ones you want. I selected about 8 but I still have plenty of memory to bring a few more. Rare languages will only have basic words so don't expect too much. Also no dirty words translated.

Pros: Hey if you are in a science class this is a MUST. I was a science major and the latin translation would have helped out a ton since most biology/anatomy is labeled in latin. If you are traveling this is nice to have when looking at a menu and making sure you aren't ordering sheep balls or something. Its quick to switch from german to english to english to french. Its like having a pocket translation book for 20 languages in one dictionary. All words come with brief (and i mean like 3 or 4 words) defintion.

Overall this product does just what it says. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the CD is having problems now after 2 months. It may just be mine or a scratch I accidentally did, but whatever the case I can't add greek which I wanted. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SimCity in Your Pocket
The game is a faithful reproduction of the PC version of SC2K. All functionality is present, even if a bit more cumbersome to access on the smaller screen. Everything from the opening music, to the newspaper stories, all the way up to the Arcos is included.

One word of caution to prospective buyers...thus far I have been unable to find a way to multitask while playing this game (played on a Toshiba e310). While the game is running, the ability to access other PDA functions seems to be disabled.

That said, SimCity fans will not be disappointed. The graphics are very sharp and the interface is quite friendly (even if a little different from the PC version).

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent game but difficult to play
I have played this game for a couple of weeks now and it is still enjoyable. I understood how to play with the excellent manual but it is too large to print and only comes in the Adobe Acrobat Reader. There is no tutorial, but the game was easy to get the hang of. It takes awhile to build the city that you were hoping to build but when you finish the project, it is fun to keep your city going for many years. You can select many different disasters that can happen to your city so that you're not always bored waiting for the money to rack up. Overall, this is the best game I have played for the pocket pc; seriously. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll wonder how you survived without it
Once you use this, you'll wonder how you ever used your pocket PC without it. Even the most scattered person will improve his efficiency with this affordable software. As far as I've seen, this is simply the best Pocket PC title out there. It allows you to personalize your contacts, tasks, memos, notes any way you want with relative ease. The most useful part is that it recognizes your handwriting and allows you to set
alarms and reminders for yourself. You can even link files and contact to dates and modify appointments by dragging and dropping, create appointments, and prioritize your agenda for the day. Considering it's so cheap, I'd call it a must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is why you brought a Pocket PC.
I rely on my pocket pc every day. Without it I would probably be lost. It stores my schedule, appointments, to do list, and contact information for everyone I know. Until a few weeks ago, I thought the system was near perfect. Then I tried Pocket Informant, and realized just how much even simple tasks can be improved. Pocket Informant is wonderfully simple and compact. The program's main features are split across four screens, Calendar, Notes, Tasks, and Contacts, each replacing and improving upon their built in equivalents.

Calendar in agenda view is probably my favorite. The screen displays upcoming appointments and tasks for the next 21 or more days. The default, which I use, is 15. It can even be set to today only. These appointments are separated by blue date headers, green for weekends. Also available is a day view, with detailed yet easy to read hour by hour information, a week view, where the days are stacked boxes, and a month view, complete with icons and popup day details. Each of these improves greatly upon the built in version's equivalents.

Next up is the Alarm Notes. While I still find myself using the default notes for quick writings, alarm notes have a few handy features. The best of them being the ability to write a reminder then set it as an alarm in 5-45 minutes, 1-3 hours, or etc. from the current time.

Tasks view has changed the way I use tasks. With the default system, I only made tasks out of important items, to avoid a horribly long and diluted list. However, using both the category and A-Z 1-9 organizational features of Pocket Informant, I find I can make checklists of just about everything and effortlessly keep them straight. Pocket Informant has a powerful filter system built in, allowing me to easily view only the list of things to do, games to play, or Rant ideas for example. Using the A-Z 1-9 system, I can then further prioritize the resulting list. Tasks are also perfectly integrated with the calendar and agenda views. It lets me keep things separate by allowing me to view only dated tasks, typically the important ones, and hiding the undated, typically checklists.

Finally is the Contacts screen, which makes short work of storing and sorting hundreds if not thousands of lines of data. Each contact has all the information you would expect stored, as well as an optional icon. The filters and search abilities really pull through here making large databases effortless to use. Data can be set to display around 17 lines at a time, meaning no matter how many contacts you have, you won't have to face a loading screen. It even includes a phone dialer which when held up to a phone receiver, plays the touch tone sounds through the speaker and automatically dials the number! Sure, it's not necessary, but if you already clicked 3 times to have the Pocket PC look up the number for you, why not click twice more and have it dial?

Some might have trouble justifying a purchase that basically does the same thing as the built in functions. Well, while this is true, the important thing to remember is it does it much better and saves you a great deal of time and effort. This is probably the entire reason for having that information in the Pocket PC to begin with. With all these features for just under $$, it's a hard deal to beat.

5-0 out of 5 stars IPAQ USER
Great program! Everything at a glance. Solid value for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pocket PC MUST
I am Power User of my IPAQ. This is the most useful tool I own. I must access this program 50 times a day. It easily beats out the Contact Management program that comes standar in Pocket PC 2002!

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" app for your Pocket PC !
Have used ver 2.6 for a couple months and liked it a lot. Tried AF since everyone was raving about it. I guess I was too accustomed to PI and found AF too "cartoony" looking? PI seemed more business-like, which was what I wanted.
Just upgraded to ver. 3 and all I can say is ...WOW... A BIG improvement, not just another upgrade! VERY well done. I'm sure there will be some glitches along the way, but then again its software right? I'm sure patches will follow just like any other App. I love the new calendar views and the side tabs! Love the new contact view also. Have a few suggestions which I will probably submit to them, but all in all this has got to be the best, most "user convenient" PIM out there.

I am quite pleased with this product. Even though I was only able to download one movie because I need more memory in my pocket pc to be able to store more movies. Right now I am only running factory memory on a HP Ipaq 5455.
You will need more then factory memory to store multiple movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars What you probably bought your PDA for...
Smartlist to Go is (if you're anything like me) probably what you bought a PDA for in the first place, only to be disappointed by the rudimentary applications that come with most. I'm using a Handspring Visor Delux (cause it was cheap) - having resisted buying a PDA for years - running the Palm OS. Mainly I wanted a small device for portability beyond that of my laptop PC. I don't want to edit Word or Excel docs on it, or do my email. I wanted to do lists.

SmartList to Go gives you pretty much everything you need in a listing application (really a database)and it does it all in a straightforward and usable manner. Additionally, it provides a design interface (on the PC side) and a synch capability with Microsoft Access. All of this works well right out of the box and comes with some basic lists you might find useful (or at least will give you some ideas to create your own). With one minor glitch in the Access synch capability (described below) it installs easily, synchs up cleanly, and has a nice feature set. Additionally it creates an Excel add-in (nice if you don't have Access or have fewer database requirements) - though you won't see this occur and must open Excel (or the Getting Started guide) to realize it. It also supports synch with Filemaker Pro though I don't use that and didn't test it.

While I have some 'development' software for Palm OS, this product is much simpler to use and generally satisfies 90% of my needs relative to lists and my PDA. At the price (particularly with the rebate) it just can't be beat. In fact, I like it so much I'm even going to test drive the 'companion' product Docs to Go.

The Access issue: The manual sort of indicates that when you use the Synch manager to set up an existing list for synch, the Manager will create the Access database and tables. I couldn't make this happen and instead created a new database then pointed the Manager at that - the tables where created just fine then. Having done this I didn't see any point in resolving the issue with Dataviz support. EDIT: I have since discovered that this issue IS covered by the manual - the solution is as I've stated, you must create the Access database yourself.

One more thing: I also ran into a problem with a couple of the sample lists - they wouldn't load from the distribution CD and an error was generated in the synch log. I downloaded these lists from Dataviz's site and the download versions worked fine. I didn't find any entries in the FAQ (at Dataviz) that dealt with this issue, but once again didn't see much point in pursuing it further.

All in all - if you have a Palm OS PDA and haven't acquired similar software you owe it to yourself to get this.

BTW, I'm a recently retired software/database developer with university training in Accounting and Information Systems and 30+ years of work experience in those fields. Just in case that matters... :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest thing since sliced bread.
"Smartlist To Go" made by DataViz pays for itself right out of the box. As with any other unique data application, you can perform the same functions with a word processor or a spreadsheet. However they would be amateurish and you would paint yourself into a corner and it came to needing the functionality that "Smartlist To Go" can give you. This project displays many views of the same data geared towards the use of a handheld.

This program loaded with these and came with an instruction booklet explaining how to use the product on My Sony P. E. O. With a little bit of practice in the examples that I was able to download I was off and running within the hour.

My wife has usurped the Sony and is doing things with Smartlist that I never dreamed of. She already has a list of books, a list of yarn, and as you read this she's making more lists.

It says you receive free technical support from the friendly, knowledgeable technical support staff. It looks like I'll never find out as everything was straightforward and works out of the box. ... Read more
