4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price!
I found this kit well worth the price. It supports most newer model phones. However, the features offered in the product depend on the model of your phone, so find out if your phone support the all the features.
Even though the product doesn't come with a detailed manual, you can always print it out online. I was able to transfer images and ringtones to my phone without any problems even without detailed instructions because the screens are pretty self explanatory.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful tool, but not quite universal
This kit supports most newer phones. It comes with two USB half-cords, and several phone half-cords. One USB cord is actually a serial converter, the other one is passive. The software is an all-in-one package, offering phonebook/ringtone/image/calendar sync and internet dialer, unlike FutureDial's Snap products. The software is well laid-out, however, not all phones support all sync functions. Also, some phones don't support two-way communication - you may be able to upload images, but you can't retrieve them. I gave the product only 3 stars for two reasons. First, the website doesn't mention that some information cannot be pulled from the phone - it can only be pushed to the phone. Second, the package I received had a defective serial converter USB cable - and after having to sit through three customer service reps, who may or may not know what they are doing, on a line that was busy for most of the day, I had to spend more money sending the cable in for exchange. The price is right for all the cables that you get, but there's free bitpim software out there that does the same, and more. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this PQ!!!
I have been a Quicken user for so long I can't even remember when I started using it! I purchased my PQ with a gift certificate I was given, but even if I had to spend my own money, I'd be just as happy with this product!

I absolutely love the pocket companian app in PQ! For those of you who want the ease of entering info as it happens, instead of trying to hold on to receipts until you get back on your pc, pocket quicken is your answer!

It was so easy to load, and very easy to use. Manual, what manual? Never read it!

Hope it works as well for you as it does for me.

To the first reviewer I'd say, you're probably the one in the minority. I'd bet the majority of PQ users are already Quicken users dealing with one person/household set of accounts. I hope you don't dissuade too many users from trying this great product.

PS: My favorite feature is the password protection you get on your PDA, just in case wandering eyes or a lost PDA befall you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good - But Not Completely Realized.
First off, if you have Quicken on a PC, have only one account on it just for you, and want EVERYTHING in Quicken on your Palm then this might work for you. But then there's the rest of us...

My girfriend saw me using Quicken 2003 and asked if they made something similar for Palm. I was surprised to see that they did! She doesn't use a PC for anything except internet. Everything else is on her Palm. So I brought her Palm to work to install PQ only to have it ask for the quickenw file. Great! Now I find out that's not a standalone app. I look on the box and sure enough it says it's a, "Companion" to Quicken. So after a few minutes I talk my girlfriend into using Quicken on my PC. Finally she concedes and we set up an account for her. OK! So I hotsync with PQ only to discover...that there's MY account also on her Palm. WTF? I delete it from PQ and resync - there it is again! I come to find out that you can't choose what accounts get uploaded to PQ. It's all or nothing. OR - you can, "hide" your main Quicken account and have PQ, "omit" it which is terribly inconvenient. Give me a break. For the $40 we paid this thing is a joke. It should have the option to standalone for that price, but to not be able to choose accounts is a travesty. This software is half-baked IMO and should be avoided unless you fall into that first rare group.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my needs!
I've been a user of Quicken for 5 years now and I'm addicted to tracking my finances through it. When I bought my Pocket PC 4 months ago, I wanted to use it to track my finances also, but it was too expensive at the retail stores. When it finally dropped a few bucks, I decided to try it. I'm mainly wanted it to track the cash I'm spending because in my business I deal with a lot of cash transactions and it's too easy to spend the cash without tracking it and it's a total pain to sit down at a computer with a pocket full of reciepts.

Just like other software, I popped in the CD followed the instructions and everything loaded onto my Pocket PC with the greatest of ease. All of my transactions (the last 3 months), account information, memorized transactions, everything. I printed off the intructions and I'm off and running. Seriously easy to use, I'm just amazed.

If you like to use Quicken, and have a Pocket PC, this software is a MUST have! I absolutely don't regret spending the money on it now. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars What is a MobiReader?
Sure, the dictionary has a lot of words, but the problem is finding them. The search screen is extremely jumpy when using the graffiti interface. I can rarely get more than a couple letters in the search box before the program jumps off to the wrong word.

Now my graffiti skills are pretty good; I don't have this kind of problem with other Palm programs. The dictionary's search program (MobiReader?) doesn't want to wait for t's to be crossed and i's to be dotted. So a search for 'tea' and you'll end up with the first word starting with 'L'. I've resorted to using the popup keyboard screen to enter words. Not what I've come to expect from Palm-based programs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Dictionary Bad Software
I bought this dictionary for use with a Palm T3. The dictionary is pretty good and reasonably comprehensive. However, it uses the MobiPocket 4.6 as the reader software. It never tells you that anywhere, I just happened to download this sofware earlier and recognized it. This reader is horrible for a dictionary. When you try to make the letter "t" or "i" using Grafitti it triggers the go back action. Also if you try to delete a letter it triggers the go back action. It also doesn't take advantage of the full screen. These shortcomings seem to all be addressed in the new 4.7 reader but it is not clear yet if I have to buy the new reader (which costs just about as much as this card) and if I do if I can even use the new reader with the card's databases. It was inexcusable to marry this dictionary to an inappropriate reader and furthermore to not disclose that anywhere. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid the demo at least
I tried the demo v.6.005 on my Treo 600. Very impressive for the most part, but unlike the free bundled viewer it crashed very badly on an e-mailed native Word doc attachment. I actually had to do a hard reset and reinstall all my apps and data from scratch. This is a very impressive piece of software, but hard crashes like these (which I subsequently re-tested and found repeatable) aren't really acceptable. Verdict: don't use this if you plan to travel away from your hotsync PC for any length of time!

2-0 out of 5 stars unsuable
documents to go compresses my power point slides to the level where the graphics and text are literally unreadable. space on my memory stick is not tight so I would rather have the raw data, but i found no way to change this. a 15 meg document is compressed down to 580k, of course the quality is terrible.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beware of versions!!!
I recently bought a Palm Zire 71 and found it to be everything I could ever want out a PDA, except for the fact that it lacked the proper software to load Microsoft Word Documents. Happily, I found the DataViz website, downloaded a trial copy of Documents To Go Premium 6.0, and all was well... until the trial period ended.

Not wanting to make a transaction over the net (they only accept credit cards on the site!) I had to find a local vendor that sold the software. And thus, the nightmare started. This product isn't easy find. It took me months to find a store that actually sold the dang thing, but when I finally purchased it, I found that it turned out to be version 5.0!!! Now, here is where things go horribly wrong...

Version 5.0 is a mess. There were multiple times when my Palm had to be reset, and there was even an occasion when the document I was working on simply vanished. Add to that, there's no such thing as a BOOKMARK even on that older version!

So be careful when you make the purchase. Better to just buy it here at Amazon.com and save yourself the trouble that I had to endure.

My advice; Palm better think VERY carefully about shipping any PDA without Documents To Go 6.0

Looking back, I could have saved myself a lot of pain, by buying a Pocket PC instead!

5-0 out of 5 stars This program kicks butt!

1-0 out of 5 stars IT does the job, barely.
Ideally, you wouldn't have to think about backing up phone numbers stored in your cell phone. Your mobile phone company would take care of it for you, and store your backups automaticaly on their servers. But life isn't so ideal. You have the choice of not bothering to backup the numbers or using DataPilot. There are no other aleternatives that I know of.

I want to use DataPilot for one thing only -- to store a backup of numbers stored in my phone. Someday, I may have to restore that backup. That's it. The program ought to have a few buttons, almost no options, and be trivial to use. Instead, it has many dozen menus and options. I think I have saved my phone numbers, but I am not really sure.

Given there is no alternative, it is worth the aggravation to get this to work. But the people who designed this ought to be ashamed of themselves. Rather than making it really really easy to archive a list of phone nubmers, they have produced a program that I suppose does other things too, but is hard to use.

ALso beware of the packaging. It takes serious effort and tools to open up the package. It is way harder to open than most electronic or software products. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Still some problems with the product
Basically it has the same functionality as the desktop product, but there are several limitations when the software was scaled down for the PDA. It doesn't work with e-mail programs and it is not possible to take some data to the clipboard without entering into the edit mode. You can not dial a number from a Tungsten T linked to a bluetooth enabled telephone. It seems that Interact were in a hurry to start selling a product for the Palm platform. I hope they release new versions of this product in the near future.

4-0 out of 5 stars ACT!
I love this product for contact management. I am a Realtor and have tried several other systems designed for Real Estate. Now that I am becoming more "computer literate" I find that I can make adaptations to this program to customize it for my business. I have just purchased a Palm M515 and am considering purchasing ACT! for the palm to further increase my efficiency. My life prior to this has been phone numbers and notes on little pieces of paper never to be found when I need them. Having the program on the palm increases the chance that these notes will be "at hand" when I need them, and I can upload them to the PC version each night. Also I can work from the PC and download the info to ACT! for my palm. What a great
product! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for education purposes
I bought this program to help myself memorize a lot of Spanish vocabulary for a college course and it helped out very much so with its flashcard like set up. Not only did it have a very large amount of vocabulary but it also had sound recordings of the vocabulary so you can also learn the correct pronunciation. However, Before You Know It Spanish is not only limited to use in Spanish. This software also allows you to create your on lists for flash cards and then memorize those also. This makes it very useful for learning by memorization and enables it to have many different uses such as having to memorize formulas for math class. These lists you can make are also able to be put onto Palm Pilots/Pocket PCs and you can also share them with friends because each list has its own save file. My opinion of this program is that it does everything it is meant to do and it is a must have educational tool. You can not go wrong with this software. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superior Word Processor for Palm
.
I just purchased Wordsmith and spent much of the past weekend using it. For a few days the weekend before, I used the trial version of DocsToGo. I found Wodsmith to be a superior product.

The word complete is a real time saver. It also has cut and paste and multi cut & paste. It counts words, paragraphs, and characters.

Wordsmith comes with a 59 page manual in PDF format. It is reasonably priced, and is compatible with MS Word and any program that uses RTF format - even Linux. It is also compatible with PrintBoy. You can have it ask for a password when opening the program. It claims support for high resolution screens such as some of the Sony's. I am willing to bet that a color PDA with high resolution would really show this program off.

Wordsmith has enhanced the memo function in the Palm, so that it works hand and hand with their program. When you start the program, you can choose to go into your docs or your memos. You can map the Palm memo button to bring up the program if you like - and there is no reason not to, unless you are using that button for something else, since Wordsmith is tied into Palm memos anyway.

Word completion is my favorite feature, e.g., I only had to type "fea" and a pop up menu with five choices appeared. Tapping "feature" finished the word for me. This is especially helpful when writing a first draft on the Palm.

The word completion function works in other applications so e.g. if you add your most frequently-used contact names to the custom dictionary then, as you start to type the name, it becomes one of the choices which pop-up. You can set it so a 1,2,3,4,5 or 10 word choice pop-up. 5 seemed a good choice.

The ability to choose Synchronize, Palm overides Desktop, or Desktop overides Palm is also a welcome feature that is noticeably absent in WordToGo which gave me fits because it lacks a choice to allow the handheld to override desktop. I lost 2 editing sessions I had done on the Palm, and I still am not sure why. There is really no way to lose a session like that using Wordsmith except through your own fault.

Wordsmith has extensive shortcuts which work with graffiti and also worked with my Seiko Thumboard, e.g. CMD + A highlights the entire document, CMD + C copies text and CMD + P pastes it and CMD + W toggles between full screen display (13-14 lines single spacing), and normal display (11-12 lines).

Many of the commands it responds to match MS Word commands and it offers full support for some keyboards, e.g. the Stowaway and Palm Portable.

It has a View mode (read only) that is terrific for browsing and reading books using autoscroll and other navigational options. In view mode, you can control the autoscroll speed too - great for editing long documents because you can switch to Edit mode with one tap and go back again to autoscrolling with two taps.

The View mode also has a feature to allow paging down or up with a tap on the top or the bottom of the screen (not on the elevator bar but rather anywhere in the body of the document.)

The fonts are somewhat confusing as the program refers to a display font and a regular font. When you do choose a font (and also when you change the font size), Wordsmith tends to ignore your choice more often than not.

I Wish there was full support for Seiko Thumboard but I am happy that many short cut commands work fine except some using control keys (which the Thumboard does not have) and others using the shift key (which it does have.)

Wordsmith claims that they are dedicated to making this a keyboard friendly program and I believe they have succeeded in that goal.

It has many excellent navigation features as noted and supports bookmarks, going to bookmarks, footnotes and endnotes and find/replace. It even supports subscripts and superscripts.

I really don't, see any major weaknesses except the fonts. Word complete does not appear to work properly when you choose the preference "no space inserted after a word," but I feel that is a minor bug.

I hope that they include a spell checker in future releases as PDAs are coming with enough memory nowadays. This is a fine program deserving of **** 1/2 stars out of *****. They just need to fix the fonts and add the spell checker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dramatically Enhances The Usefulness of the PDA
[Note: I purchased WordSmith via download from the Internet, not on a CD-ROM.]

This is a marvelous product for PDA users with Microsoft Word installed on their "mothership." Basically, the program enables you to create .rtf documents on your PDA that then can be turned into Word documents with a click or two of the mouse. The user has a number of options regarding how synchronization is handled. It also functions as a document reader which can be set to teleprompter-like scrolling.

As the program evolves more and more formatting options can be created on the PDA and transferred home to the mothership. The program is updated often, but upgrades at this point are free. I would recommend checking with the manufacturer to confirm this, but if you buy release 2.0 you ought to be able to upgrade to release 2.1, which supposedly is due to be released at the end of November 2001, without paying any additional cost.

If you have this program on your PDA, and a portable keyboard, you may not need a laptop any more.

5-0 out of 5 stars WordSmith Is A Writer's Dream!
This is by far the best handheld application available for writers. WordSmith makes it simple to turn the tiny chunks of time available throughout my day into productive writing time. No need to wait for a laptop to boot up, or carry a disk with documents to and from an office computer, just click-and-sync directly from Microsoft Word to my handheld, and continue writing where I left off while I'm on the go!

Using the WordComplete module with my custom dictionary entries, I'm able to breeze through documents with names and technical terms, too.

With the format-retention features, and just-like-Word keystrokes, this has nearly relaced my laptop on the road. Handmark has created a winner with WordSmith, and a tool every writer should consider.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeds the competition's offering
I was a bit skeptical about this program, but was pleasently surprised after installation and use for note taking in my college lectures. It offers much more functionality than the bonus 'Pro' application included with my new PDA.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good program for PDA
WordSmith Pro definitely one-ups DocsToGo with its feature set - it really is a full-fledged word processor. Running this on a handheld with a folding keyboard means you can work like you were typing away on your desktop wherever you go. The added fonts, formatting, and spell-check are excellent additions, plus its view mode makes it a capable eBook-style reader for your favorite Project Gutenberg texts.

The only real flaw that I saw was that Wordsmith Pro doesn't seem to be able to write to the memory stick expansion card on my clie organizer. Also, the downloaded version requires a serial number that, when I downloaded it, was not present in the downloaded license program. If this hasn't been fixed, you may have to email amazon.com support and have them mail you a serial number. I would also recommend, once you have the program downloaded, going to Handmark's website and downloading the new program updates - they improve stability a lot.

Overall, if you're going to do serious word processing on a handheld, this is the program for you. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good software, bad support
The features of the software are great. For people who make extended use of Outlook categories and subfolders, being able to carry those into the Palm is invaluable.

Support, though, is lousy. I had occasion to try when I started getting an "unexpected error" on synching my contacts which corrupted by home PC's Outlook contacts. The access to email support is hidden in web pages, only showing up once the user has browsed limited and un-helpful FAQs. I never was able to find a telephone number for support. And, despite claims on that response should be forthcoming by next business day, I've been waiting a week now with no response.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best outlook companion
This is the best outlook companion I have seen.
It allows you to seemlessly integrate with ALL outlook's contact fields. All your tasks are kept in the same categories (even non-standard ones). Most important long notes are not truncated. Attachments in e-mail can be opened in Documents to go.

It's the best way to get your outlook info to your Palm. ... Read more
