1-0 out of 5 stars Tutorial only, no software
Don't be fooled by the "Kidware" company. We thought that this was a starter kit, with some software and tutorials. It is tutorials only and aaumes basic programming/ VB 6 knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product for beginers!
Beginers Start here!, this is a great product and here is why:

a.-Fast delivery (you get your product as soon you proceed to check-out)
b.-Well structured lessons and chapters
c.-Well supported and explicit examples

I bought LEARN VISUAL BASIC 6 2.0 and it worths every dollar, you will do your first application in the first chapter.

There are two important things you should consider about this product:

1. You must be familiar with BASIC coding lenguage. Why? well because MS Visual Basic 6 is very extensive!, and one book won't cover it, IN ADDITION TO THIS PRODUCT I STRONGLY RECOMEND A BASIC CODING BOOK that teaches you the commands and it syntaxis and the programing-coding techniques

2. The chapters are writen and .DOC format (MS Word) so, learning becomes easier if you print them; and you must have instaled MS Visual Basic 6 standard or professional edition

In general terms this is a great product that allows non-experienced users know and learn Visual Basic 6 easily in 10 weeks, if you are a non-experienced user that wants to start in "VB World" maybe you should start here

I hope this opinion help you, and don't forget to choose a book that teaches you how to programing or coding in BASIC lenguage.

please note: I have not full command of english, I apologize if some sentences (or all review) are confusing or not well structured, Thanks and Have Fun!

This was a great starter for me. I used these instructions and along with my programming experience landed a job at a large blue chip company.

I'd recommend it for anyone looking to learn VB from scratch or as crossing over. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most useful thing I have ever had
MAID is a bit hard to describe. Essentially it is a GUI editor that uses a drag and drop methods to draw up a GUI dialog. But this kinda misses the point because it how you go about adding functionality that is the real powerhouse.

Each part of the dialog (controls - buttons, menus etc) can be made functional by adding in a simple rexx script. Ie MAID draws the button (for instance) and supplies you with events (button-down for instance), open up the event and simply type in the script you want executed when this event is triggered. Simple.

Then MAID also comes with hundreds of commands everything from searching files to polling IO devices. Something which I did not expect was how easy it was to improve and add to dialogs I had made. As all the code is broken up into functional fragments under visible objects it is very easy to follow what is going on and as the scripts are relatively small and usually only doing a few things it is again very easy to make changes without fritzing the whole thing.

Strangely scripts tend to get smaller and simplier the more they are editored and changed. This is unusual and has happened too often to be a fluke, but I think because it is easy to see how one control relates to another and that each part of script presents as a simple function it just becomes obvious the most direct way of getting something done - hence the scripts get smaller and simplier.

This is simply the must have program for anyone using a computer to get things done. I have my own specialisied utilities and often do quick and dirty little dialogs to get some job done and have found this the quickest and surest method. I don't know what else I can say I just can't believe that its not better known (great to see it finally on Amazon). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Son learned a lot from it
I purchased this when my 4th grade son became interested in programming. He worked through the whole program and learned a lot! I'd say he generally enjoyed it, though part way through he became quite excited about programming his "own" game and I had to do a bit of nudging to have him finished the last few chapters. He did end up making his own game, too. :)

Each lesson has step by step instructions for making little programs. All of the icon images and such that you need are included in the program. There are also copies of the completed programs in case one you make doesn't quite work.

Even though my son was rather young, the program isn't babyish. (He just had an intense desire to learn the stuff.) It's very clearly laid out. I would recommend a bit of typing practice before using this.

!!!!!!!!One thing to be aware of-this DOESN'T come with the visual basic program. That program can be very costly! I also purchased the "Idiot's Guide to Visual Basic" (I hate that name!) which came with a CD and a workable version of VB.

This was the first time I purchased anything as a download. It took a bit of work to get the lessons all printed out. If I had the option of buying a disk with a printed manual, I'd go for that.

Overall, I was quite pleased.

We purchased this download for homeschooling purposes along with Beginning Visual Basics by Kidware. They have different titles and descriptions but please be aware - they are almost exactly the same. I would not recommend getting both.

Please make a note of this error and contact this store if you are unable to resolve this issue. (Error: 611, 0)" I've applied for a refund.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great product for the beginning programmer.
Most programming books are written for the professional programmer and sound like they are written in some foreign language - not so for Beginning Visual Basic. This product is a set of notes written in Microsoft Word format that teaches the basics of using Visual Basic to build Windows applications. The writing style is easy to follow and the teaching approach is reassuring. It is practical and in language that is understandable, without unnecessary jargon. It includes many Visual Basic projects to try and all steps of development are explained in clear detail. You do have to have some version of Visual Basic to use the tutorial. ... Read more
