3-0 out of 5 stars Very mediocre
This inexpensive learning tool for children is extremely unembellished and unexciting. It is simple to use and might be a good tool for toddlers as young as two and a half. My son is three and has numerous better abc software applications. This one didn't hold his attention for very long. It has no music and very meager graphics.

This might be a good first abc program for a young toddler. Though the recommended age range is 3-5 years, I would say it is better for 2 1/2 to 4. You get what you pay for. This software doesn't cost much and it doesn't offer much. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Deep in the heart of the Hundred Acre Wood, learning math is a fun adventure. With Pooh, Tigger, and their friends leading the way, children are guided through seven engaging activities that teach beginning math skills. As kids accomplish each skill, they earn a fun reward they can use to build their very own gardens. Skills include counting, sorting, adding, and subtracting. Three levels of difficulty allow children to learn at their own pace.

In Pooh's Pantry, kids practice counting by emptying the baskets in the right order. Piglet's Cupcake Kitchen lets kids decorate Piglet's cupcakes as they come out of the oven: kids frost them, add them up, then choose the jar of sprinkles that matches their total. Other activities include helping Rabbit Roo and Tigger collect bugs for the garden, and visiting the Wishing Well, where number matching makes wishes come true. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids love growing gardens
This has been a popular game with all my kids, they enjoyed earning all the rewards for the garden.
The ability to plant seeds and watch them grow (extremely quickly when watered) is very popular and to keep this activity going when you have a full set of three plants they are liable to get eaten so that you must plant some more.
One child was disapointed that eyore did not appear when she had recieved all the rewards and tell her how much he liked the garden which was an oversite on the designers part as pooh does suggest that you make eyores garden pretty for him.
The games suit a wide range of childrens interests with mine there favorite seems to be bug sorting (by colour), followed by eyores calendar as they loved following the bug or frog depending on the level, which teaches number recognition up to 30 and tiggers contraptions where you must follow the blueprint and match an outline drawing to the actual item in the correct order to make an interesting contraption and you dont seem to see the same one twice.
Piglets cupcakes they found they could just click on the jars to get the right one eventually and they did enjoy decorating the cupcakes. Poohs pantry is counting up to 30 and every time you play the jars have different veges and fruits. The wishing well deals in sets and the first two levels are fine dealing in sets of 1-5 and 6-10 but I found the third confusing myself as it was very hard to tell how many were in the sets of 10 to 15 as they used different items in different sizes within the sets.
Lastly is the raindance quilt with rabbit, the only level the kids enjoyed was the third where they made the pattern and repeated it down the quilt.
There are also plenty of click points to keep kids amused, and your rewards either do something when clicked on or are plants/seeds to grow in the garden. Every time you return to the garden you find a note to read on the fence, and some of your plants might get eaten.
Overall you cannot go wrong with getting this game for your younger children ages 2-5 would get he most use from this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes pre-Math fun!
We have had this software since my son was 18 months and now he is three. At first I would go through it with him and he enjoyed the beautiful garden and the Pooh characters. There are also alot of place where you can just click and make things happen - like a skunk stealing rabbit's flowers, a squirrel playing drums on the roof etc. Now he can do most of the games himself with a little help. You start out in the garden and can go from there either North, East or West - in each place you have a choice of going to someone's house - Tigger's, Rabbit's, Pooh's etc. and in each is a different math related game. Most of the games are very good - our favorites are Piglet's house in which you decorate two trays of cupcakes and then add how many total you have and Tigger's house where you drop different items into his machine (in the order on the blueprint) and then a contraption pops out at the end. When you finish 5 rounds of a game you get a prize for your garden like tomatoes to plant or a windmill, waterfall etc. in the end the garden gets quite elaborate. This software is well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Math Software for Young Kids
My 3-1/2 year old got this for Xmas and he really enjoys it alot (spent most of Xmas afternoon on the computer!).

There are 6 different activites - all math related. The numbers go up from 1 to 30 (which pushes him beyond what he is used to in other math type software for his age). The activites spark the imagination of a young child (for example, adding and subtracting cupcakes and then allowing the child to decorate the cakes afterwards). Skills include counting, adding, subtracting, more/less, pattern recognition, grouping numbers, number formation.

Best part of the software (from my son's standpoint) is that the rewards allow him to grow a beautiful garden full of fruits, vegetables and flowers. The rewards are clearly motivating and the goal is obvious.

Pros: Fun and entertaining, skill developing, clear goals and rewards, favorite characters of Winnie-the Pooh and friends

Cons: The pattern recognition activity leaves something to be desired. The activity is quite boring and repetitive, and at all levels too easy for even a 3-1/2 year old! Also, to complete the garden, you must complete all 3 levels (which is a little much to expect); but my son did persist and over 3 days completed the entire game and then started over again! ... Music provides one of the best methods of memorization. Concepts that are put to memory through music are readily available years later with much better accuracy than concepts taught with other methods. The songs in this program have familiar melodies and have been designed to be memorable so that your child will easily recall them for years to come.

Learning and understanding basic math concepts are important factors in a student's successful progression. Professor Finkle's Math Mania teaches what preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students are required to know about mathematics.

Amazon.com Review

This affordable multiple-CD set from Topics Entertainmentstrikes a wonderful balance between education and entertainment, pulling together four already proven titles that cover everything frommath and problem-solving skills to art and reading.

Edmark's Mighty Math Zoo Zillions lets kids practice countingand number grouping in a colorful animated zoo, while Eurotalk'sSpanish Vocabulary Builder offers simple illustrated games thatreinforce basic Español. Simon & Schuster's CuriousGeorge Paint & Print Studio is a freeform art program that letskids decorate monkey-related scenes with thousands of stamps anddrawing tools. Finally, School Zone's Beginning Reading 1-2offers two interactive books, plus an audio dictionary and aCreate-a-Story program.

All four use intuitive visual interfaces that kids shouldn't have anytrouble tackling, and all provide at least some open-endedinteractivity. Beginning Reading lets you explore all thedifferent items on each storybook page, for example, and ZooZillions lets you fiddle with math problems as you go. Some of thisis a little complicated--Zoo Zillions lets you flip-flop quicklybetween structured questions and unstructured play--but adults willlikely find themselves more confused than kids. Also, most of theprograms feature vocal help in the form of purring tigers orhead-nodding Curious Georges.

A nice bonus: all of the programs except Beginning Reading runright off the CD, so no installation is required. And even if you'renot interested in all four titles, the price is hard to beat. --PaulHughes ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware - Very Poor Quality Software
The software included in this set is of very poor quality. They will change your screen colors since they need to be run in 256 color mode. The games themselves are flawed with bugs. The answers to some of the questions were incorrect. I have an advanced degree in medicine, but even that did not help to address these shortcomings. I have also purchased the middle and High school math and Middle school math excelerator software and all of them are from the same company - TOPICS ENTERTAINMENT. I would recommend not to purchase ANY of the Excelerator titles, for not only are they a waste of your time and money, but they include two programs that are the same in both the Middle School and Middle School Math, which are the Pre-Algebra and Algebra programs. You would be better off buying another title from a different company....Buyer Beware!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars speed up my 1st to a 2nd grader
This software was pretty good the zoo zollions I think was the best my daugther enjoyed the changellen, the print shop curious george was good also, the spanish was very good and to my surprise it was easy to change to a different language. But when it came to the reading part of it. it was borning and not that much changellen only in the creating your own story the dictonary was good. Only 3 stars because I wanted something more out of it for my 7 year old going into the 2nd grade. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard-to-learn made easy software guidelines - June 29, 2001
It is unbelievable for me to find out how hard it was to purchase the recent software, Math Express 2.0 I've been waiting for a while now. Until then, I was definitely surprised to informed the certain cause of the product you were selling was out of stock until your nearest future awaits you for the selling arrivals of this aboslute software, so I went to the different online store within the use of home web address memorized: As a result, I was certainly glad to find out still the company was offering to do the non-stop selling of the second version-related Math Express macintosh software for the exact price, ..[charged] for every order. After all, the product I selected didn't arrive until 3 days ago shortly after my last week's online order result was made from where I visiting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good practice of basic number concepts..
This is a pretty neat game. I bought it for one of my students that is having difficulty counting. It really does not have the student count. Instead, it tells them to place seven tails on the bug or eight eyes... Some children can count but cannot relate the counting to a concept. This game gives them the opportunity to grasp the concept! It is a simple but effective product. ... Read more
