5-0 out of 5 stars I just love this font manager!
One of the first software that I purchased for my MAC G4 using OS X was Extensis Suitcase 10. What I love about OS X is the ability to use PC and MAC fonts together and with Suitcase 10, the ability to store those fonts somewhere and activate or deactivate them through Suitcase 10.

Extensis customer support has been excellent answering my questions immediately. Also, with every OS X update, especially now with Jaguar, there has been updates with Suitcase 10.

Suitcase 10 has received perfect ratings from many magazines and reviews have been wonderful.

I know there are a plethora of font managers for the MAC at this time but Suitcase 10 is worth the money and worth the investment. It's easy to install, easy to add your fonts, put them in categories and look at the fonts if you deal with many of them, like I do.

Also, they have released updates to work directly with Adobe Illustrator 10 and Adobe InDesign 2 for font auto-activation which is awesome!

Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for font freaks and graphic designers
I must say, I wish I had discovered this type manager for my Mac a long time ago. I have been using Adobe Type Manager Deluxe 4.5 for almost 3 years now and during that course of time have had many problems with it. Besides the fact that I found ATM very "non-user-friendly", it was constantly corrupting my typefaces and conflicting with my virus protection software. I finally got rid of it after upgrading my operating system to OS 9.1 when ATM was no longer compatible.

I first learned about Extensis Suitcase when I began a new job working as a graphic designer for an advertising firm. They ran Suitcase 9 on all of their computers. I immediately fell in love with its reliable usability and accessibility... so I put it on my Christmas wish list.

I installed Suitcase 10 on my own computer a week ago. (I am running a G3, 256MB RAM, 500mHz processor, 50GB HD machine). While the installation, setup and customization was very tedious, it was well worth the time. The way that Suitcase works is you basically dump all your fonts into a folder on your hard drive (not the system font folder) and then install Suitcase. You then proceed to import all of your fonts into Suitcase and organize them to your preference (serif, sans serif, decorative, script, etc.). Once imported and organized, you can activate and deactivate them as you need to use them. You can preview the appearance of your fonts in a preview pane. Suitcase reads the fonts from the separate folder on your hard drive so as not to slow down your computer. You can also customize the program to deactivate and reactivate certain typefaces as you open and close programs like Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.

I had a few problems at the beginning where Suitcase was bitmapping certain fonts. Apparently this was a common situation as I easily rectified the problem through the trouble-shooting section of the Extensis website. Other than that, Suitcase has given me NO problems and I have been very happy with this product so far. I recommend it to any print or web designer who has an obsene number of typefaces on their machine (like me) and wants to keep them all. Don't waste your time and money on Adobe Type Manager.

(I might also note that Suitcase 10 is Mac OS X compatible... for when I finally upgrade to that) ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Pressit very BAD
Save your self [some money]. This is one of the worst java aps I have used. Also you can not get blank labels in the US. I called the US distrbutor listed on the box. They told me they no longer suport Pressit. They sugested I call Momorex as they where now handling it. Called there and they where clueless. So what do you get for your [money]. A few sample labels, a nice applicator to put them on and a realy poorly writen java program. Not intuitive or user friendly and very slow and this was on a new 17"PB 1ghz. Mac. You would be better off to just down loading their free templates for photoshop. Oh I emailed the company twice in the UK no resonce after 2 weeks. Oh well, let the buyer beware...

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets
I have to be honest, after I decided to get a CD labeling kit, I was atracted to cd stomper. But after a serious research in several stores , here in Costa Rica, I couldn't find it. Instead, i kept bumping into the pressit kit. Since I've never heard from it, i wasn't too excited about buying it. I just thought it was a copy of cd stomper.

I have to tell you that after I tried the kit, I was satisfied completely. The printing is perfect: Your get your CD's labels precisely positioned in the paper. Besides, as a computer analyst, i find the idea of the software being based on JAVA explendid! It doesn't crash at all, is easy to use and you can design your own labels! Also it contains a whole set of labels on the package.
If you want quality on your labels, get this kit! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Click N Design 3d
You can really make great labels with this software! You can nearly hide pictures on the label, so it looks like it's bleeding through.
The 3d text can be twisted & manipulated many different ways. But there really isn't any tech support for it, when it doesn't work. Which is quite sad.
The full face labels are nice to have, & doesn't get in the way of play. Keep in mind that car cd players are different. Yours may not want a label of any kind! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars New horizon
The CS series offers a great new horizon for Adobe products on OS X. As a designer at an extremely busy design agency, we have found the CS series to be a huge improvement. InDesign is proving to be the victor in the war with Quark. The massive diversity and ease of use of this program is paramount to cross media integration (print to web). These versions of Photoshop and Illustrator are simply the best. The usability of GoLive needs some tweaking, I much prefer Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX 2004. But all in all, hats off to Adobe!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what you need for both the Web and Print!
Photoshop... Not much needed to be said about it! Not much out there with as much to compare it to.

Illustrator... I simply love this product! It is easy to use and the results port perfectly into the rest of the suite.

InDesign... It takes a little getting use to, but then, it is EXTREMELY easy to use. This one is finally very stable! It is actually fun mixing this with illustrator. The two work extremely well together and produce expectional results! Add a few Photoshop edited graphics to the mix and there is nothing to slow you down!

Version Cue... Haven't used this very much. Nice addition though.

GoLive... If you need an editor and you use Photoshop, This fits in really well.

The one thing that puts this set above all the rest is the integration of PDF across the entire platform and the interoperability between the product.

The down side is that they still need to work on a SINGLE interface. I like the way InDesign's interface works with the tool bars hugging the sides of the screens. I wish they would impliment that across all of the products. Still, in terms of pure functionality, it is really hard to beat this suite! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for those with many fonts
This upgrade offers interface and other improvements, plus OS X compatibility. OS 9 users get document auto-activation of fonts. When you open a document under OS 9, Suitcase automatically activates any fonts used in the document. Unfortunately, OS X doesnÕt support this feature. OS 9 users can activate fonts using the control strip or the application. OS X requires that Suitcase is running before activating fonts. You can set it to auto open on startup. Then minimize it and leave it in the dock and it will be there when you need it. You can activate fonts from the Dock or the application. Suitcase will also collect fonts to a single folder for sending out print jobs. You also get FontBook, an excellent sample page printing tool. The OS 9 features work under fine under Classic mode. OS X supports the new cross-platform OpenType fonts. ItÕs ease of use and OS X support make it a must have upgrade. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Fonts aren't OpenType
Unfortunately, this product includes fonts in the older PostScript "Type 1" font format instead of the newer OpenType format. Adobe sells an OpenType edition of Adobe Type Basics, but this is a download-only product. I wish Adobe would sell the OpenType Edition on CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stick to the basics... Type Basics
Adobe Type Basics has been a lifesaver. About a year ago, my business partner and I launched a weekly newspaper. We knew our way around Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXpress and Adobe PageMaker, so we figured we were ready. Boy, were we wrong. We soon discovered we "didn't know jack" about fonts. We experienced reflow problems, missing fonts and other foul-ups, and our printer terrified us with even worse horror stories about what can happen when good type goes bad. Thankfully, a graphic designer tipped us to Adobe Type Basics. The CD (for Windows or Mac) contains 65 of Adobe's most popular typefaces, including test, display, script and symbol styles. It's a generous variety, without being overwhelming. An unexpected bonus was the inclusion of the Adobe Type Manager software to help organize our fonts. Adobe Type Basics is a great value. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Stay with Suitcase 8!
Suitcase 8 is a great program. There is no way around that. If you deal with a large number of fonts in your day-to-day work, you need Suitcase 8.

Suitcase 9 is another matter all together. It is a poor excuse for an upgrade. It makes your life as difficult as is humanly possible by being "intuative" about what you want it to do. Unfortunately, it doesn't work and play well with networks. It makes your life a living hell with certain fonts. And, worst of all, it just won't open some fonts if it doesn't want to.

Our company "upgraded" to 9, and within days had really upgraded back to Suitcase 8. Suitcase 9 just doesn't work!

Save your money... and frustration! ... Read more
