Amazon.com Review

Streamline 4.0 is an excellent bridge between the worlds of freehand drawing and resolution-independent graphics. At its heart, the software is basically a conversion utility, a tool for importingbitmapped (raster) images and exporting them as vector-based line art.But it's a disservice to the application to downplay what is so simplystated.

The value of Streamline becomes apparent after the firstconversion--it quickens the heart to see a hand-drawn, bitmapped imageimported into a program like Adobe Illustrator, where one can tweak thecurve and width of any line, and scale it up until it fills abillboard.

The process starts with a drawing or image being scannedin or photographed with a digital camera and saved out from a programlike Adobe Photoshop. It is then opened in Streamline (it works withmany file types, including native Photoshop) where the image isconverted to vector lines.

The options for conversion are numerous:control point density, smoothness, line width, stroke or fill, curvesmoothing. Additionally, areas of the original image can be selectivelyconverted, with each area using different conversion settings--some forsmoother, thicker lines, some for rougher, more edgy lines, andvariations thereof. Also, Streamline 4.0 now features a "convert to"command, for converting a roughly drawn shape into a standard shape;for example, a crude egg shape on a cocktail napkin could be convertedto a perfect circle, or four rough strokes into a smooth, evenrectangle. Streamline 4.0 also supports converting colors to vector-based areas of color. One can specify the number of colors touse and which color palette would best match.

Adobe-standard keyboardshortcuts improve one's efficiency with the application, and being ableto drag and drop across applications is a handy feature that anyone cangrow to love.

Freehand drawing on a computer is not as easy orstraightforward as taking pencil to paper--a natural quality islacking, a texture more felt than seen. But graphics software offersfeatures not found in "real-life" art, like the ability to scale animage up and down without losing the sharpness of a line. For anyserious digital artist, Streamline is a must-have. It is one of thosetools that is used the least, but appreciated the most. --MikeCaputo ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful tool, but could use more support
I purchased this tool for the purpose of scanning camera-ready Native-American artwork for touch-ups and digital prepress, and found it to work wonderfully well. In the two years since purchasing Streamline, however, I have found that the resulting quality degrades quickly with the quality of input. I still feel as though Adobe could have taken this software package one step further and provided a more robust support for conversion and covered a wider range of export options.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
I primarily use this product to scan pen or pencil drawings into EPS or AI files for Adobe Illustrator. Works like a charm and is very simple. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Video Editing
Reviewing a program like Media Edit Pro is a tough slog. Not because of any shortcomings of the program but because it was completely different from what I expected. Perhaps a brief description of the review process is in order. What I review is stuff that interests me, and I'm interested in Movies. So when I saw a press release for Media Edit Pro I thought "Hey, Here's a movie editor more robust than iMovie but cheaper than Final Cut Express, that's something I'd like to try." A couple of e-mails later and I had a copy. I installed Media Edit Pro (which is growing tiresome to type so I'll truncate the title to MEP in future references) with no problems. then I downloaded and installed the update. Still a problem free experience. Found some footage to play with and fired up the program to give MEP it's first test run. Big Problem.

The problem wasn't with the program, it just wasn't what I was expecting. I expected a simple but more robust movie editing program, I was wrong. The program is called Media Edit Pro for a reason and the reason is that MEP is not just a movie editing program (one assumes the author put more thought in the title than I did when I read it) but a full fledged media editing program (hence the text). That means pretty much any media you care to mess with. I only care to mess with video stuff so I'm sticking to the video side, but from the little I know about audio and stills it seems that MEP would be quite capable in that department. Let's hit the easy stufff right now, MEP includes plenty of effects and transitions and you do have complete titling control. But there's more to MEP than being just a beefier copy of iMovie, much more.

Say you want to pull off the effect from the beginning of Saving Private Ryan/ Gladiator. You remember that extra violent fog-o-war feeling. You can't do it with iMovie, it's just not possible out of the box. It's no big trick with MEP. To be honest there's not a lot you can't do to video footage with MEP. You can do titles any way you wish, move the audio around, add a single frame or a thousand, paint. Paint? Did I say paint, let's look back... It appears I did say paint. Well that's okay because you can paint directly on your video using the painting tools. It's a more useful feature than you might think. This might have you wondering "If I can paint, does this mean I can apply other image editing techniques to my movie?" Wonder no longer, the answer is yes. You want to mask the video? No problem. You want to apply an effect to just a region of the movie (you know a specific selected area)? Again no problem. Think of it, you can add cool effects to just, say, half the visible video. People familiar with imaging editing programs will be able to go nutso crazy with the included tools and mere mortals like I can still have a pants load of fun.

How powerful is MEP? I don't know. I know it can handle anything I can throw at it but I only have limited video editing experience. Could a super slick director take MEP to it's limits? I would bet the answer is yes. At least I think they could, you see MEP also includes brush editor to make your own brushes. These aren't just static brushes, these are special cool movie brushes. Even more intriguingly MEP includes something called RBscript. This is well beyond my ability to use but I suspect that in the right hands it could be a very powerful tool. With the ability to script stuff I conclude that MEP is limited more by the user than the program.

The last question to ponder: what do I give up if I ditch iMove and start using MEP? Well, MEP does everything iMovie does as well as plenty of other neat stuff I haven't mentioned (for example: you can set the dimensions of the movie). MEP offers a great deal of creative control and for those of you who don't want to shell for Final Cut Express but need more than iMovie this is the best alternative I've run across. MEP is very powerful, very original and very very cool. In addition to all the aforementioned goodness MEP includes a printed manual (becoming a rarity, but helpful with a program as original as MEP) and a very cool sticker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use! Nothing I've ever seen
This software is the greatest. I can edit frame by frame or edit entire movies. I love the paint on movie feature--great for rotoscoping! Like I said before, it is nothing I've seen before. ... Read more

I've never had more fun with a computer program than I've had with Funhouse. Just add a face to one of the numerous templates, make a few clicks, and you've got a laught till your cry masterpiece. I especially like to program's ability to automatically match the complexion of the added face to the template. I've been doing projects with pics of my coworkers and they've loved them. By seamlessly integrating these capabilities with Apple's QuickTime digital technologies, AppleWorks 6.2 makes it easy to incorporate text, spreadsheets, digital photos, images, sounds, and movies into a single document.

Sharing documents is a breeze with AppleWorks 6.2. New translators for Microsoft Word and Excel files let you open and modify these files from within AppleWorks. You can even save AppleWorks documents in these formats to share with friends and colleagues.

If you're running AppleWorks 6.2 on Mac OS X you'll notice additional benefits. Preemptive multitasking means that you can work on AppleWorks projects while iTunes rips your CD collection in the background, and your system will still stay responsive. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very good software, well, the best for me.
It is amazing software, really smart and pleasure to use. There are some things to improve to my taste, but overall it is definitely worth the money. In two hours of the actual using it appears by far more convenient that notorious MS Office. Extremely rich applications fulfilled by right tools. It is not overwhelmed with unneeded garbage but with smart and well organized things.
As one reviewer has mentioned it isn't Word. it is better. You don't have a filling that some one staying and breathing into your neck.
BTW, MS Word brought wrong habits and misleading conceptions, but if you know how to work , this one is much more productive tool.
All pieces well coordinated and inter working.
Very recommend. The interface a bit different and a few things to learn, but since you started to use it there is no way to back to MS Office. MS Office has more features in the same way as track has more horsepower, but will you drive it on vacation rather than coupe ?
One more thing to say, there is no any issues with MS Office compatibility. I converted many different documents and had no difficulties at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's not Word.
Let me make one thing clear: AppleWorks is not Microsoft Word. It is not Microsoft Office. And it is not a substitute for Word or Office, just as a Honda Civic isn't a substitute for a Hummer. It is, however, much easier to use, much less intrusive, and much less expensive. If you need Microsoft Office's features, by all means buy a copy. If you need to exchange files with Office users, it's probably a good idea to buy Office. But If you need to get work done quickly and easily, grab a copy of AppleWorks. All the modules (Word processor, graphics, spreadsheet, and presentation) are seamlessly integrated. Screen clutter is minimal (though the toolbars could be smaller.) Basic (and I stress basic) compatibility with Word and Excel files is included. But its strongest point is its ability to stay out of your way: it doesn't try to reformat your work to suit it's own ends, or make grammatical decisions for you, and the on-line help is helpful, not intrusive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use with many good features.
A great application. If you don't want to spend the extra money and get Office X then this is the application for you. It's very easy to use and has a lot of great features like templates and clip art plus, you can make your own templates and clip art. It has many features that Office X has except it doesn't have grammar check. That is the only draw back but half the time I never paid attention to it when using Office 2000 for windows so this isn't a big deal for me. I have converted many documents from Office 2000 to AppleWorks with no problems. I also use it for college and I have yet to feel the need to get Office X. Some other features it has are spell check, a word counter, and it can read back your documents to you!! Try it out. You won't be sorry! I use this application on an iBook running Mac OS X 10.2.4

5-0 out of 5 stars Great upgrade from office mac
I am a computer programmer and have been using MS Office since office 97 was released. I bought an Ibook 2 weeks ago in order to get away from the Wintel platform (and Linux too). The appleworks program is great it lets me create documents that MS Office can read and will also open MS documents. AppleWorks (as far as I can tell) has all the power of MS Office and is way easier to use. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks and can already create better documents faster using appleworks. I have not used the presentation part of AppleWorks yet but I assume its as good as the rest but, for presentations I reccommend keynote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth your money!
...Appleworks Office does everything I want an office program to do and it's stable and reliable. (I'm running system 9.2 on a G4). Another reviewer claims it isn't compatable with other programs, but fails to give any useful specifics, such as what programs and how it isn't compatable with them. I ignored that review and bought this software, and I'm glad I did. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars OLD IMAGES, WORTHLESS, WASTE OF MONEY.
I found it to be totally worthless with their outdated photos. Nothing new or current in the entire collection. I am looking specifically for business photos and technology photos - of which there are virtually none in the entire collection. I mean NONE.

I hope they will eventually make a collection that contains new stuff, like from the 20th century!!! And definitely cool, colorful images of space, technology, people, business people, buildings, offices, etc.

Spend your money elsewhere people. This collection is useful only if you're a historian and write on subjects from the early 1900's.

TWO THUMBS DOWN. WAY DOWN.

5-0 out of 5 stars PS
I just wanted to add that a lot of the reviews in this section are for different software! Versions of photodeluxe 2.0 are different for PC's and Mac's!! The Mac's version 2.0 is comparable to photodeluxe 4.0 for PC, which is known to have a lot of "bugs" in it. Version 2.0 for PC is a much better version than 4.0...don't fix what is not broken!! So, please if you are a PC user thinking about purchasing version 2.0, ignore the comments about the Mac version as they do not apply to you. :o)

5-0 out of 5 stars SO user friendly
Adobe has been perfecting their software for way over a decade, so no wonder they're so high quality and easy to use.

Like their high end [...] software, this title uses a very easy and functional layering system.

I use it, not only for photos, but for illustration and graphics purposes, too. Just scan your line drawing in and, like a coloring book, fill in the white areas with color or textures. It comes with a bunch of cool effects buttons, so you can then add those as well.

It crashes sometimes, but usually only when using the "advanced" buttons and bogging your RAM down with a ton of effects and commands. Just be sure to get in the universally good habit of saving often, and there won't be much of a problem.

I actually prefer version 2 to version 4 because of a more user friendly interface, but don't try to run version 2 on WinXP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with OS9!
Please. If you have Mac OS9 beware! My Mac freezes every time I try to use this software and I have spent hours trying to resolve the problem. Be sure to review the user group entries on Adobe's website before buying this software! You will find many frustrated OS9 users and no solutions. GOTO ...(their website). Enter search and enter "PhotoDeluxe OS9."

4-0 out of 5 stars PC User
Never thought I would be good at making minor changes to family photos until I tried this product. Easy to learn, easy to use. Now my whole family uses this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Troublesome
I have found PhotoDeluxe to be very cumbersome. Many of the features are hard to use if you're a novice. PhotoDeluxe for Dummies was helpful and explained quite a bit but why should you have to spend money on a guidebook? Also, changing the print setup leads to constant crashing (Windows 98). I have plenty of free disk space and available RAM so I don't think this is the reason. I'd say spend a bit more for a BMW and stay away from this Chevrolet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product!
I was taking a course in Computer Graphics and was introduced to Painter through the course. I had always used Adobe Photoshop so I had no idea what Painter would be like.

Fo those people who are not familair with computer graphics programs, Painter makes it easy to learn. You can learn so many things with just playing around with the various tools. Painter makes it easy for anyone to learn how to make a graphic. This is one of the best programs I have worked with over an extended period of time! Thanks so much Corel for making a product worth buying!

5-0 out of 5 stars why you have to upgrade..
Today, a creative professional can only notice how mature the graphics software industry has become, new software are offering more and more features that are using more and more computer resources, without being adding real marginal benefits. New upgrades are only to keep the products alive, on the expense of making them more cumbresome.

Painter 8 is a different story altogether!
Corel® has made a great effort to make this upgrade of a previously clunky yet powerful product, a much more versatile, standardised and user-friendly juggernault. Gone are the days where you have to hopelessly search among dozens of panels for a particular brush, style or method. A slick bar at the top dynamically changes according to the tool you're using, where you set the size, opacity, curviness..etc.
Another thing that was greatly improved is the process of choosing the brush (that used to be very annoying with the old selective dimming). The brush selector is tucked at the upper right part of the screen (also in that slick bar,) in a much more logical and standardised way.
One also has the feeling that painter 8 was given something similar to the Macormedia® MX treatment, where the palettes can be customised into different panels and the layout saved according to the project.
The mixer panel IS useful, and is very consistant with the philosophy of this new painter release: the small things that make your work faster and stress-free. The os X over all performance is much snappier, not to mention the beefed-up photoshop compatibility, and o! have i mentioned that you get both a windows and a mac version with the license price ?

In short, If you thought painter was too eccentric and boggy for you, this is the upgrade you've been waiting for. Its new slick interface made me thank God that Corel® had taken the torch from Metacreation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Near Perfect Program for creating Art
It took me a few months to break down and buy this. I had Painter Classic and Painter 7, and I liked them, but they weren't what I really wanted.

Painter 8 was exactly what I was looking for. The color mixer is wonderful! I can finally get the colors I want quickly and easily. The new interface is so intuitive and not at all intrusive like Painter 7's. The new brushes are brushes I want and use. Painter 7 had a lot of the same brushes with few variations organized in a haphazard fashion.

If you enjoy the look of natural media, and you enjoy the flexiblility and forgivability of digital media, Painter 8 is for you. I am so glad I bought it. I just wish I had purchased it earlier. It is a big improvement over 7.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mea Culpa!
I wrote a hasty review of Painter 8 after only one day of haphazard dabbling with the program, and I have to now eat my words. I've spent a few more days working with the program, and it's a much better upgrade than my initial impressions (and review)indicated.

What I didn't remember is that this is not merely an upgrade but a REVISION of the program. One must come to this without the preconceptions learned from using previous iterations of this fine product. The lack of responsiveness in the brush or pen line thickness variations was due to my not having recorded a stroke in the stroke pressure setup panel...something I had not had to do before, as I did this in the Wacom Tablet stroke pressure setup panel (under Preferences) and that had sufficed to generate satisfying results in Painter 6 and 7. (I haven't found whether the Painter 8 documentation mentions the necessity of setting up one's stroke pressure preferences anew in the program, but it is necessary to achieve satisfactory mark-making sensitivity.)

As I get more acclimated to the new interface I have to admit that Painter 8 is pretty darn nifty. I don't know if this is such a dramatic upgrade from Painter 7--aside from the drastically improved interface--but it is worthy enough for me to withdraw my earlier cavils and give this program 5 Stars.

Depending on your computer's processing power, some stroke rendering can be slow, but this was true of earlier versions of Painter, as well. This is an attribute of the complex computations required to render the particular effect, and not a unique defect with this version of the program.

Anyone who already uses Painter will love the streamlined interface. Whether the new features are sufficient to warrant an upgrade--the new interface aside--must lie within the judgement of each Painter user. For those new to the program...go, buy, use, ENJOY.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Upgrade...so far.
Let me say that I love PAINTER...it's my favorite computer graphics program. PHOTOSHOP is more powerful for image editing, but for creating "natural" art on the computer, PAINTER blows PHOTOSHOP away. (My other favorite program is Creature House's little known gem of a vector drawing program EXPRESSION. It allows for "natural" looking media effects in a vector environment; imagine PAINTER as a vector program!)

However, after one day of playing with PAINTER 8, I am somewhat disappointed. It's redesigned interface is fine, an improvement over the old clutter, although, once having got used to it, the old interface was intuitive enough and it's "clutter" factor lessened with use. Beyond the snazzy new interface, though, I'm finding that the new brushes seem less responsive and in some cases slower to "draw" than in the two previous versions of PAINTER I've used, 6 and 7. My favorite pen and ink drawing tool, the "Scratchboard" tool, is far less sensitive than in previous iterations of this program, and even after setting it's line thickness to vary according to the pressure I place on the drawing tablet, it hardly approaches the smooth, natural look and feel of old.

Also, the Liquid Ink brushes seem much slower to "draw," and the Impasto effects seem not to always work, or, at least, they do not seem to work with every tool, which they formerly could.

Admittedly, I've only used the new version for one day, and I've just dabbled; perhaps in time I'll learn how to achieve in PAINTER 8 the responsiveness I'm used to from previous versions. Also, perhaps the next incremental upgrade will improve the performance such that Painter 8 will not feel "buggy."

I love the program; I'm disappointed in what seems almost a step back in the main point of the program...the natural performance and feel of "painting" on the computer. I may find that I open PAINTER 7 as often (or more so) than this upgrade...until I can discover what I'm doing wrong or Corel can fine-tune the responsiveness and sensitivity. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Designed to make quick work of complicated print projects, The Print Shop for Mac does what it claims and does it well. Whether you want to make signs for a garage sale, pamphlets for an organization, or even personalized Post-It notes, The Print Shop features a toolbox full of options. Pair it with a digital camera, and buying greeting cards could quickly become a thing of the past.

Getting started is simple. Installation is brief and straightforward. This version is compatible with Mac OS X; however, the software runs in the Classic Mac environment. Upon launching the program you're given a menu of 15 project options--calendars, business cards, banners, etc.--including a blank-page option to make whatever you want. Before diving into a creation, head to the help menu. There you'll find easy-to-follow directions for developing your projects and understanding the software tools and interface. The lack of a printed user's manual is a disappointment, but an electronic version is included in the software.

The Print Shop includes thousands of graphics and images to be used in your projects. All are broken down into various categories and are searchable by name, keyword, or subject. And if you can't find what you need, you can always import it from somewhere else. This is particularly nice if you want to use your own photos in a design.

The new, integrated photo editor helps you clean up images a bit before you use them, as well. Basic functions include crop, rotate, color adjustment, and dust and scratch removal. It even corrects red eye so your dog doesn't look like a demon.

Other new features include an address book, photo frames, quotes and verses to add to your works, and text tools. A 3-D headline tool has been added, too. Use one of the ready-made designs or custom-build a headline using a variety of shape, proportion, color, and outline effects. Plus, a preview box lets you see your creation before it's part of your project.

Simplicity is key to The Print Shop for Mac. While there are certainly more powerful page layout programs on the market, the learning curves are considerably steeper. The Print Shop really does allow you to easily complete a variety of print projects in minutes. --Joshua Goldman ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Hurry up please with OS-X Print Shop
As a new user of Apple equipment, I am amazed that there are no
really good printing programs for Mac OS-X. I really love the
iMac I just got. Best computer I've ever owned! But, there are lots of good printing programs for Windows ie: Printmaster Gold, etc. I'm glad I saved my old PC and will use it for printing posters, cards, etc. till someone gets with it and comes up with
a good Mac OS-X program ...... then I'll trash my old PC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most of you are not very smart.
Read what it is you are buying!!!
It says right on Amazon's webpage that this version is NOT OS X compatible.
Like another reviewer said, buy the version that the Apple Store currently sells, which is made for OS X. Stop complaining cuz you didn't read what it is that you bought.

5-0 out of 5 stars My rating is for MacKiev's Print Shop (Not Broderbund)
The new version, no longer published by Broderbund, is so superior. It is designed specifically for Mac OS X and integrates with iCal and the Address book. You can print directly to those new Epson printers that allow you to print CD labels right on the CD itself. Packed with high quality photos and graphics and easy-to-use professionally-design templates, The Print Shop for Mac has everything you need to create great-looking posters, banners, business cards, pamphlets, online greetings and much more! Do yourself a favor and check out MacKiev's new version of the Print Shop, not this old one listed here.

2-0 out of 5 stars It was not worth waiting for. I am very disappointed
I expected a new and improved Print shop with new graphics. I recieved it today and found numerous pictures that I used in the print shop at least 6 years ago. I felt like I was using the old print shop on my Apple IIgs. It has many similarities to the old System 9 print shop which was not overly impressive. Do not waste your money on this program. Invest in Print Explosion it has much better and a larger selection of graphics.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wait for the new OS X EDITION!
I just got the new OS X Print shop for Mac. It'll be for sale shortly. Worth the wait! Really works slick an is something
Mac users have needed a long time. Watch for it ...... ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Adobe may have the lock on professional graphics production withPhotoshop, but it has long been engaged in a drawn-out battle with Quark for thehearts and wallets of the desktop publishing crowd. PageMaker 7.0, Adobe'slatest effort in the desktop publishing arena, won't set it ahead of QuarkXPress4.1, but it does have plenty of appeal for small businesses and other audiencesthat have minor publishing needs.

PageMaker 7.0's user guide measures in at more than 400 pages, and itthoughtfully explains every aspect of the vast and complex program. A wide rangeof impressive-looking templates, which cover just about every type of documentimaginable (including business cards, labels, newsletters, ads, posters, andmore), makes PageMaker a little more accessible to users unfamiliar with itsfunctionality. The templates are divided into various levels of complexity, withthe lowest level containing helpful annotations for novice users.

While its improvements over version 6.5 are minimal, PageMaker 7.0 makes a fewworthy strides to justify its sparkly new version number. Among the most welcomeis a surprisingly intuitive data merge feature, which allows users to configuretarget areas in their publications and import respective fields from aspreadsheet or database. Unfortunately, it only recognizes comma-delineated CSVor TXT files; it doesn't import data directly from common file formats createdby Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1-2-3.

Ironically, another area of improvement in PageMaker 7.0 is compatibility withother programs. It easily imports and handles layered image files fromIllustrator and Photoshop 5.0 and 6.0, and features input converters for filescreated in QuarkXPress and Microsoft Publisher. PageMaker's PDF exportcapabilities have been enhanced both in the main program and with the includedAcrobat Distiller applet, allowing users to configure security and embedded tagoptions.

Even with its plethora of templates, PageMaker 7.0 isn't by any means anentry-level application. Nonprofessional users who have never used a high-caliberdesktop publishing program should probably consider a simpler package such asMicrosoft Publisher. While hardened, professional magazine designers tend toprefer QuarkXPress, Adobe PageMaker 7.0 is nonetheless a complex and powerfultool that packs a serious learning curve.

PageMaker 7.0 is perfect for small businesses that can't afford to hire outdesigners for promotional materials, or for companies that have the need tocreate professional-looking PDF files. Owners of PageMaker 6.5 might not feelcompelled to upgrade, but companies and creative folks newly in the market for amuscular desktop publishing tool will be well served by PageMaker 7.0. --JoelDurham Jr. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Worthy Upgrade for an excellent programme
I have used PageMaker extensively for over ten years for almost everything under the sun. A fantastic programme! The icing on the cake with Version 7.0 is the addition of icons on the menu bar. It is in keeping with most programmes within the windows environment. Fabulous! If you want to dive into desktop publishing Aldus Pagemaker is definitely your pick.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not OS X Native
Adobe has done very well with the OS X Native Photoshop and Golive applications. What were they thinking of when they released PM7? Personally, I'll never by another non-OS X native application.

4-0 out of 5 stars PagerMaker 7 - there's life in the old boy yet!
PageMaker fans have long bemoaned the lack of attention Adobe has paid to Pagemaker. When they thought Adobe was finally going to get around to a PM upgrade, they got, instead, InDesign. With the release of PM7, however, Adobe shows that it hasn't abandoned its intensely loyal PageMaker users. This is not a significant upgrade in terms of features, which are few: native Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator files can be directly placed into PM7, allowing you to skip the flattening/merging step, which allows you to update your .psd files and have them integrated quickly into your PM document. The PDF distilling options are set in PageMaker itself, not in the included Adobe Distiller 5.0, and there are more options than were previously available through the included Distiller. Interestingly, there are converters for rival Quark Express and Microsoft Publisher files, but not one for Adobe's own InDesign. Perhaps Adobe felt that no one would want to "back into" Pagemaker from InDesign: I say that since the initial versions of InDesign lacked a table of contents feature, which has been a PageMaker standard, there are a lot of Indy users who would have loved that option.
The best thing about PM7 is the changes under the hood that gear it to work with more advanced operating systems, such as Mac OS 9 and Windows 2000. (It does not run under the native Mac OS X, but it does run in OS X's Classic environment). With this breath of life, PageMaker users can rest a little easier. While Adobe seems determined to force its high-end users into InDesign, the loyal contingent who have invested time and money into their PageMaker skills can still produce top-quality documents. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for small business and home design
Professional designers don't need to sweat this program. This software isn't a threat to you, the skills it took years to learn, or your innate abilities to be creative.

LogoCreator is geared more towards people who need what this software provides, and that is ordinary folks who would never, ever hire a pro to make a logo for their crafts booth, home business, small business or exciting new project idea. Such people need tools like this, and LogoCreator delivers a wonderful alternative.

I've even seen many "professional" logo design websites using LogoCreator's templates to provide interested parties with individual logos for $50 to $150 each (which is legal to do according to LogoCreator's license agreement).

All in all a nice alternative to those with a need to create and maintain their identity without paying overpriced designers who don't know your business as well as you.

1-0 out of 5 stars You're joking right???
Well, I'm going to throw my design degree right out the window, cuz I should've bought this program and saved myself four years and thousands of dollars!

Does the world really need another logo with a #^%@$ shwoosh on it??? ... Read more
