I want to use DataPilot for one thing only -- to store a backup of numbers stored in my phone. Someday, I may have to restore that backup. That's it. The program ought to have a few buttons, almost no options, and be trivial to use. Instead, it has many dozen menus and options. I think I have saved my phone numbers, but I am not really sure. Given there is no alternative, it is worth the aggravation to get this to work. But the people who designed this ought to be ashamed of themselves. Rather than making it really really easy to archive a list of phone nubmers, they have produced a program that I suppose does other things too, but is hard to use. ALso beware of the packaging. It takes serious effort and tools to open up the package. It is way harder to open than most electronic or software products. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description Reviews (8)
As others have noted, if you want to put an entire metropolitan area on your PDA, it pretty much has to go on the memory card, which slows performance to a crawl. The search function is powerful, but there are a few gotchas. Any match of three or more letters is displayed, so if you search on "Eagle" you also get "Seagull", and a search on a name that contains a common string can result in hundreds of hits (but they are sorted by best match). You can search for any address in your address book just by entering the name associated with the entry; but unless the address is in your book in the expected form (e.g. 123 12 St, not 123-12th St.), the app won't find it. It also doesn't seem to know much about house numbers, and generally won't resolve the address to the correct position on the street. The maps are pretty good, but there's no support for hi-res. Street names are displayed only sporadically, so it's difficult to orient yourself without touching the map for more information (displayed at the bottom of the clunky interface). I don't regret buying the app if only because it does give me a handy "pocket yellow pages" for my area, but it's certainly no substitute for a paper map. For better-labeled maps that look better on the hi-res Clie screen, Mapopolis is an alternative; but the one "enhanced" Mapopolis map I have purchased contains very few points of interest, not even labels for most parks and malls, and has a few other problems of its own. ... Amazon.com Product Description The PalmPak Travel Card: Worldwide Cities contains Lonely Planet CitySync guides for: Amsterdam, Bangkok, Boston, Chicago, Dublin, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, Paris, Rome, San Francisco, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, and Washington D.C. Software includes: Lonely Planet CitySync guides, CityTime world clock, Small Talk phrase guide, WorldMate Lite, Time Traveler Lite: Time Book, Time Traveler Lite: Time Travel, and Time Traveler Lite: Time Place. Features Reviews (2)
Palm's CitySync maps are low resolution and difficult to read on the Palm's screen - most cities have excellent foldout maps available for just a few dollars. For what's on and where to eat, 'TimeOut' or the equivalent weekly what's on magazine has got all the up-to-date info on where to eat and party, and CitySync's tourist info is a poor rendition on Lonely Planets excellent printed city guides. The World Cities card does come bundled with some more or less useful software, including a trial version of the award-winning City Time global time application. Clonclsusion: Spend the purchase price on local maps, what's on guides, and treat yourself to dinner and a few beers with the change. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description With full-color maps of city streets, national landmarks, historical sites, and more, you can locate street addresses with ease. Simply input the city, ZIP code, or street address to find the desired location. Or, you can zoom in on a particular area. Watch as an entire city gets mapped out in detail, and use your handheld's directional arrows (up, down, right, left) to pan views. Calculate distances between travel points to find the fastest and most efficient route. This program even offers restaurant, airline, hotel, and other travel information to make travel planning a breeze! Reviews (5)
A close inspection of the product packaging does refer to "static" maps (maybe they mean static in time as well -- locked in at 1997!); however, I feel that the packaging is deliberately misleading so that the buyer can easily get the impression that these maps are interactive on a PDA. In any event, the fact that such old and obsolete maps were used is inexcusable.
Worse still, the image capture on the PC won't display individual streets except at the few highest zooms and then the area is quite small. So, either the map on the Palm is uselessly small (a square mile or so) or it doesn't actually contain city streets. Either way, as a map, it's useless. In fairness to the product, it tries to be a trip planner more than a map. In that role, it's not quite as bad. The result is a sequence of maps, each at an appropriate zoom level. Even so, it's awkward to create and download separate maps for one trip. Okay, it's cheap. I don't expect full features. But, this product just isn't usable. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review Installing Solus Pro can be a bit tricky. In most cases of installing PDAsoftware, the user expects the necessary components to install automaticallyafter a sync operation. However, with this application, the user must enter theprogram, and manually add Solus Pro and any desired maps to the sync list. After it has been installed, Solus Pro is an extremely valuable program. Tendifferent cities are available to download to your Palm OS device, accompaniedby a Web site within which any user can find just about any place in the U.S.The user can access detailed vector maps and directions for quick searching;find streets, addresses, and address-book contacts; zoom to five levels;customize maps; and control the map features that are best to display for eachuser. One drawback is that this program probably shouldn't be used in a hurry,as it can be a bit slow--most likely, because of the high level of detail.Additionally, be careful of your free memory--each city can take up asignificant amount of space. If you're looking for a high-tech way to avoid having to ask for directions,Solus Pro offers one in this reliable, highly customizable navigation solution.--Kendra Hayden Reviews (2)
First, reading a map on your Palm is a lot harder than reading a printed map, for some reason. Expect to be disoriented a lot. The maps on the CD work pretty well (I was using the San Francisco map). I could find places to go reasonably well. My biggest gripes are the speed (slooow), and the fact that street names don't always follow the street. For example, if I look up a street that runs the length of the city, and then zoom in on it, it's name is not necessarily displayed any longer. This was very frustrating when zoomed far in, as few if any of the streets I was looking for were labelled. ... I downloaded a map of the city I live in, and found it fairly useless. Zoomed out, it displays no streets. Zoomed in, many streets simply have no name. The size of the map is also very limited, and no location (businesses, restaurants, etc.) data is included. Overall, this is a decent product for the maps that are included on the CD. I'd hesitate to recommend it's use outside of those areas. And I'm still looking for that ultimate mapping software package... ... Read more

Amazon.com Review Planning your trip is a straightforward process with the itinerary application, albeit somewhat confusing as to the language used for information (for example,a vendor is never defined, and we're still not sure what it really means). Butthe itinerary function does allow for a logical display of your information, sorting by airline reservations, rental car information, and lodging plans onseparate pages. Additionally, the itinerary offers the ability to plan severaltrips at once and categorizes each accordingly, which is good fordifferentiating between the family's summer vacation and your company's annualretreat. Once your bags are packed and you're on the road, you can check in with theTravel Mate, a skinny, all-purpose reference tool. It offers clothing sizes(ranging from suits to women's dresses, including UK, U.S., and European sizes),currency conversions (which you can update manually at will), and standardconversions (temperature, distance, volume, and weight). Rather than rely on hotel personnel to help you meet your tour group on timewith a wake-up call, use the SuperClock, a large display time (approximately oneinch high and very bold) that makes an ideal bedside clock. Alarm settings allowfor a basic alarm sound, varying days (such as weekdays only), and acustomizable snooze function. Still, the most compelling reason to purchase this application is the translatorfunction, which will undoubtedly serve as your traveling language coach andconstant companion. With 39 languages available, users can select up to nine ata time, so hopping from country to country is no sweat. We found a pleasantsurprise after installing Spanish and Yiddish: words are sorted by types thatinclude directions, shopping, places, and much more. Even though the translatoroffers no pronunciation help, we found that the selection of words and theaccompanying look-up function would prepare travelers for interculturalcommunication. By combining travel dictionaries, scratch-paper notes on confirmation numbers, and day-to-day plans, Travel Assistant proves to be useful for both the businesscommuter and the leisure traveler.--Emilie Dirks Reviews (3)

If you do care for these things (and you must if you ever spend more ...bucks for a bottle) you owe yourself to get a copy of this program ... One of the most useful items it the ability to add a wine to your cellar either manually or from the excellent wine reviews (Summer 2002 included.) Add this to your Zagat Restaurant Guide for PDAs and people will be calling you to dine out... Wish they'll come up with a PocketPC version soon.

Amazon.com Product Description Palm expansion cards are about the size of a postage stamp and are easy to use. Just plug it into the slot on your handheld to start searching for word definitions and synonyms, without sacrificing your handheld memory space. These Palm backup cards allow your handheld to grow along with your needs. Features Reviews (18)
For it's size and content i rate this thing 4 stars. Unfortunetly it could do w/some color for you people who have to have Color in everything, like me. It also includes no pictures but thats ok. It loads a little slow like all cards you slip into the expansion slot but yoru talking maybe 5 seconds to open the dic. or thes. which isn't really a big deal. I highly recommend this thing, though if palm wanted it to get 5 stars, they have to work on color.
The only idiosyncrasy preventing me from awarding this little pack a five star rating is that it's rather slow, but this is expected. Overall this is a fine product and it sure beats carrying an incomplete little pocket dictionary or a prodigious, bulky, complete edition of Merriam-Webster's tome. Oh, and there's also a thesaurus too, but I never use it, so it would have been better for users like myself if there were a separate card option that contained the dictionary only.
