4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price!
I found this kit well worth the price. It supports most newer model phones. However, the features offered in the product depend on the model of your phone, so find out if your phone support the all the features.
Even though the product doesn't come with a detailed manual, you can always print it out online. I was able to transfer images and ringtones to my phone without any problems even without detailed instructions because the screens are pretty self explanatory.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful tool, but not quite universal
This kit supports most newer phones. It comes with two USB half-cords, and several phone half-cords. One USB cord is actually a serial converter, the other one is passive. The software is an all-in-one package, offering phonebook/ringtone/image/calendar sync and internet dialer, unlike FutureDial's Snap products. The software is well laid-out, however, not all phones support all sync functions. Also, some phones don't support two-way communication - you may be able to upload images, but you can't retrieve them. I gave the product only 3 stars for two reasons. First, the website doesn't mention that some information cannot be pulled from the phone - it can only be pushed to the phone. Second, the package I received had a defective serial converter USB cable - and after having to sit through three customer service reps, who may or may not know what they are doing, on a line that was busy for most of the day, I had to spend more money sending the cable in for exchange. The price is right for all the cables that you get, but there's free bitpim software out there that does the same, and more. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars IT does the job, barely.
Ideally, you wouldn't have to think about backing up phone numbers stored in your cell phone. Your mobile phone company would take care of it for you, and store your backups automaticaly on their servers. But life isn't so ideal. You have the choice of not bothering to backup the numbers or using DataPilot. There are no other aleternatives that I know of.

I want to use DataPilot for one thing only -- to store a backup of numbers stored in my phone. Someday, I may have to restore that backup. That's it. The program ought to have a few buttons, almost no options, and be trivial to use. Instead, it has many dozen menus and options. I think I have saved my phone numbers, but I am not really sure.

Given there is no alternative, it is worth the aggravation to get this to work. But the people who designed this ought to be ashamed of themselves. Rather than making it really really easy to archive a list of phone nubmers, they have produced a program that I suppose does other things too, but is hard to use.

ALso beware of the packaging. It takes serious effort and tools to open up the package. It is way harder to open than most electronic or software products. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for education purposes
I bought this program to help myself memorize a lot of Spanish vocabulary for a college course and it helped out very much so with its flashcard like set up. Not only did it have a very large amount of vocabulary but it also had sound recordings of the vocabulary so you can also learn the correct pronunciation. However, Before You Know It Spanish is not only limited to use in Spanish. This software also allows you to create your on lists for flash cards and then memorize those also. This makes it very useful for learning by memorization and enables it to have many different uses such as having to memorize formulas for math class. These lists you can make are also able to be put onto Palm Pilots/Pocket PCs and you can also share them with friends because each list has its own save file. My opinion of this program is that it does everything it is meant to do and it is a must have educational tool. You can not go wrong with this software. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
I liked the PC version, but the handheld version is expensive, hard to use and not that much value. When compared to MS Streets and Maps it is not even in the same league. The Bluetooth feature is problematic and the tech support is poor. In both versions there seems to be a bug that introduces a position error of about 200 feet. This seems to be problem for both the hand held and PC editions. If this keeps up I expect DeLorme to be out of business within 2 years. Too bad---It has the potential to be world class.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are computer literate at all you'll love it.
This program is awesome!!! You install the software on your PC and choose how much you want to sync to your PDA. You can sync detailed maps or just highways and interstates. My wife works at a flower shop and sometimes delivers. Type in the address and it will take you their.
Syncing the the maps can be a little difficult the first time but I didn't even need to look at the instructions. I highly recomend this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Looking for a PDA map program???? Keep looking.
Xmap version 1.3 keeps causing 'Fatal Errors' and 'Memory Chunk' errors on my m125 running PalmOS 4.0.1. Delorme states this may happen with routes but I'm only using it to see their 'Sample' map that came with the product. I loaded their downloadable fixed version 1.4 but it has the same result.
I live in the Dallas, Texas area and would like a map of Dallas and Fort Worth. Unfortunately, the program locks up my computer every time I try to create a map of that area. I then followed the procedure Delorme recommends to prevent so called 'other background software' from halting their product. Guess what? That procedure made no difference. The program usually locks up at more than 50% of creating the map. Once it got all the way to 84% before it halted. At that time, the file was well over 9 MB!!! I'm not sure I need THAT much data. I just want the streets. Rand McNally's Streetfinder does this same area in about 2MB but it has MAJOR DEFECTS also and I definitely don't recommend it (see my other review).
I have been using Mapopolis with some maps I downloaded a couple of years ago, but the price now is a little prohibitive since I need maps for spur of the moment travel somewhat infrequently and don't always have time or access to the web to download them. I can't afford to download maps for all places I MIGHT go. Mapopolis works perfectly, even with memory cards, and I recommend it if you can afford the maps. I guess I will continue to use my laptop until something better comes along. I write software. It is a shame I don't know more about map databases so I could develop my own program and tell these guys where to go.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not User Friendly
I have used the regular PC Versions of Street Atlas for years and love it. This software for a PDA need to be pulled from the market by Delorm before it gives all their software a bad name. They are trying to load too much secondary travel info into the PDA and not what is really needed. Which is easy to use maps or areas that can be easly loaded and navigated. Something like their Street Atlas for PC's Ver. 01. Who needs the names of hotels, places of interest, and eating establishments on a PDA. All you want to do is find out where you are and where you are going.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of info but hard to get to
The handheld app is apparently aimed mainly at GPS users, and I can't comment on that part. I bought it as a simple roadmap and location-searching tool. It does have an amazing database, covering every square inch of the U.S. and containing many thousands of "points of interest" including businesses with phone numbers.

As others have noted, if you want to put an entire metropolitan area on your PDA, it pretty much has to go on the memory card, which slows performance to a crawl. The search function is powerful, but there are a few gotchas. Any match of three or more letters is displayed, so if you search on "Eagle" you also get "Seagull", and a search on a name that contains a common string can result in hundreds of hits (but they are sorted by best match). You can search for any address in your address book just by entering the name associated with the entry; but unless the address is in your book in the expected form (e.g. 123 12 St, not 123-12th St.), the app won't find it. It also doesn't seem to know much about house numbers, and generally won't resolve the address to the correct position on the street.

The maps are pretty good, but there's no support for hi-res. Street names are displayed only sporadically, so it's difficult to orient yourself without touching the map for more information (displayed at the bottom of the clunky interface).

I don't regret buying the app if only because it does give me a handy "pocket yellow pages" for my area, but it's certainly no substitute for a paper map. For better-labeled maps that look better on the hi-res Clie screen, Mapopolis is an alternative; but the one "enhanced" Mapopolis map I have purchased contains very few points of interest, not even labels for most parks and malls, and has a few other problems of its own. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value!!!
This card is GREAT! It has awesome travel guides of a bunch of cities like ROME, Amsterdam and New York! Everything is in high resolution so it looks great on the Tungsten T. The language translator, Small Talk, rocks! I highly recommend this for travelers!

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
Palm's Worldcities is competing with a host of free up-to-date and easy to read information available in all airport arrivals lounges - and frankly, it performs poorly, I returned the product after just two days of navigating in NYC.

Palm's CitySync maps are low resolution and difficult to read on the Palm's screen - most cities have excellent foldout maps available for just a few dollars. For what's on and where to eat, 'TimeOut' or the equivalent weekly what's on magazine has got all the up-to-date info on where to eat and party, and CitySync's tourist info is a poor rendition on Lonely Planets excellent printed city guides.

The World Cities card does come bundled with some more or less useful software, including a trial version of the award-winning City Time global time application.

Clonclsusion: Spend the purchase price on local maps, what's on guides, and treat yourself to dinner and a few beers with the change. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Innovative and Very Intuitive
This product is absolutely amazing. It is an extremely useful educational tool for language learning and much more. The Before You Know It Multipack is designed for language learning, especially vocabulary, by basically using electronic flashcards. The Multipack version includes an enormous amount of content for Spanish, French, Italian and German languages and is a good place to start learning the languages or for studying/refreshing. Now this is great for language learning but in my opinion the best feature of this program is the ability to make your own electronic flashcards for anything and you can also share them with friends through email and on Palm Pilots. To me this is a must have for studying anything that you need to memorize. It is so useful and very helpful in these aspects. It also shows you the cards you have the most trouble learning more frequently than the ones that you do not have trouble remembering which in the end means that you will have a very effective studying method. This program is very user friendly, simple to use and has plethora of uses. I believe that even if you do not want the language aspects the program, it is still more than worth having just because of the ability to create your own cards. Ideal for students, teachers, and anything else that requires memorization. Have no doubts, Before You Know It definitely earns its 5-star rating. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Okay Desktop, poor PDA
This product is okay when used as a reference tool on your desktop computer. However, to reiterate and reinforce other reviews it is misleading and a poor tool for your PDA. You are only allowed to save static maps to your PDA. Once the map is on your PDA you can not zoom or view street names, which makes the product highly useless on your portable device. I give the product one star only because it is usefull when used on the desktop computer. Since it's target audience seems to be the PDA user the company misrepresents the usefullness of the product on the PDA. I am very displeased. I highly recommend not purchasing this product if you intend to use it on you PDA as it is purely junk in that respect.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely worthless
This software would have been a marvel twenty-five years ago. I couldn't return my copy fast enough. The details that they say are downloadable from the web are not there. Rather than Streets Maps & Vacation Planner buy a good old fashioned paper map. It is far better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless -- maps static and at least 5 years old
Not only are the maps not interactive on the PDA, as other reviewers have pointed out, but I found the maps of the South Bay to be at least five years old. A major section of Highway 85 that was completed over five years ago is not shown on the map.

A close inspection of the product packaging does refer to "static" maps (maybe they mean static in time as well -- locked in at 1997!); however, I feel that the packaging is deliberately misleading so that the buyer can easily get the impression that these maps are interactive on a PDA. In any event, the fact that such old and obsolete maps were used is inexcusable.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
This software seems like it was designed more for your desktop than your palm. On your desktop, it is a fully interactive map of the U.S. But you can only load a single still picture on to your palm. No zooming, no address finder, nothing!!! If you're looking for interactive map software for your palm, stay away. But not bad for your desktop.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless, only creates fixed images on Palm
This product uses a simple interface on the PC to outline an area for which a map is to be generated. An image, and nothing else, is downloaded to the Palm. There is no searching by street, zooming, or anything else on the Palm.

Worse still, the image capture on the PC won't display individual streets except at the few highest zooms and then the area is quite small. So, either the map on the Palm is uselessly small (a square mile or so) or it doesn't actually contain city streets. Either way, as a map, it's useless.

In fairness to the product, it tries to be a trip planner more than a map. In that role, it's not quite as bad. The result is a sequence of maps, each at an appropriate zoom level. Even so, it's awkward to create and download separate maps for one trip.

Okay, it's cheap. I don't expect full features. But, this product just isn't usable. ... Read more

    Amazon.com Review

Solus Pro mapping software for Palm OS handhelds is an affordableprogram for the PDA user on the go. This useful program from DeLorme offerscomprehensive, communicative maps with all of the important information that youneed to be well organized, while on the road or navigating through your ownhometown.

Installing Solus Pro can be a bit tricky. In most cases of installing PDAsoftware, the user expects the necessary components to install automaticallyafter a sync operation. However, with this application, the user must enter theprogram, and manually add Solus Pro and any desired maps to the sync list.

After it has been installed, Solus Pro is an extremely valuable program. Tendifferent cities are available to download to your Palm OS device, accompaniedby a Web site within which any user can find just about any place in the U.S.The user can access detailed vector maps and directions for quick searching;find streets, addresses, and address-book contacts; zoom to five levels;customize maps; and control the map features that are best to display for eachuser. One drawback is that this program probably shouldn't be used in a hurry,as it can be a bit slow--most likely, because of the high level of detail.Additionally, be careful of your free memory--each city can take up asignificant amount of space.

If you're looking for a high-tech way to avoid having to ask for directions,Solus Pro offers one in this reliable, highly customizable navigation solution.--Kendra Hayden ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars what maps work
before anyone orders solus pro program they need to read about it and see what delorme maps will work with it after it is install into your pda. all of their maps does not have zoom support

3-0 out of 5 stars Works decently with provided maps, poorly with downloaded
One of the things I was really looking forward to as a new Palm owner was having maps on my Palm. I found Solus Pro 2.0 at a nearby store and picked it up, thinking it was just the thing. Well, I'm a bit disappointed, and here's why:

First, reading a map on your Palm is a lot harder than reading a printed map, for some reason. Expect to be disoriented a lot.

The maps on the CD work pretty well (I was using the San Francisco map). I could find places to go reasonably well. My biggest gripes are the speed (slooow), and the fact that street names don't always follow the street. For example, if I look up a street that runs the length of the city, and then zoom in on it, it's name is not necessarily displayed any longer. This was very frustrating when zoomed far in, as few if any of the streets I was looking for were labelled.

... I downloaded a map of the city I live in, and found it fairly useless. Zoomed out, it displays no streets. Zoomed in, many streets simply have no name. The size of the map is also very limited, and no location (businesses, restaurants, etc.) data is included.

Overall, this is a decent product for the maps that are included on the CD. I'd hesitate to recommend it's use outside of those areas. And I'm still looking for that ultimate mapping software package... ... Read more

    Amazon.com Review

Jules Verne may have proposed the whirlwind 80-day journey around theworld, but he would have been on the road a lot sooner had he used Handmark'sTravel Assistant. A combination of several unique applications, Travel Assistanthelps to arrange and organize your travel plans, make sense of foreign lands, and communicate with the natives.

Planning your trip is a straightforward process with the itinerary application, albeit somewhat confusing as to the language used for information (for example,a vendor is never defined, and we're still not sure what it really means). Butthe itinerary function does allow for a logical display of your information, sorting by airline reservations, rental car information, and lodging plans onseparate pages. Additionally, the itinerary offers the ability to plan severaltrips at once and categorizes each accordingly, which is good fordifferentiating between the family's summer vacation and your company's annualretreat.

Once your bags are packed and you're on the road, you can check in with theTravel Mate, a skinny, all-purpose reference tool. It offers clothing sizes(ranging from suits to women's dresses, including UK, U.S., and European sizes),currency conversions (which you can update manually at will), and standardconversions (temperature, distance, volume, and weight).

Rather than rely on hotel personnel to help you meet your tour group on timewith a wake-up call, use the SuperClock, a large display time (approximately oneinch high and very bold) that makes an ideal bedside clock. Alarm settings allowfor a basic alarm sound, varying days (such as weekdays only), and acustomizable snooze function.

Still, the most compelling reason to purchase this application is the translatorfunction, which will undoubtedly serve as your traveling language coach andconstant companion. With 39 languages available, users can select up to nine ata time, so hopping from country to country is no sweat. We found a pleasantsurprise after installing Spanish and Yiddish: words are sorted by types thatinclude directions, shopping, places, and much more. Even though the translatoroffers no pronunciation help, we found that the selection of words and theaccompanying look-up function would prepare travelers for interculturalcommunication.

By combining travel dictionaries, scratch-paper notes on confirmation numbers, and day-to-day plans, Travel Assistant proves to be useful for both the businesscommuter and the leisure traveler.--Emilie Dirks ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No way to chose which platform to download
This was for Palm OS and the OS is compatible with both WIN and Mac. I am sure it is a good program, but there is no way to chose which parent platform to download for. I did not find out there were two different downloads until after I paid the money and try to install it and asking customer support. SO BE CAREFUL IF YOU OWN A MAC, THEY WILL ASSUME YOU OWN A WINDOWS MACHINE AND HAVE YOU DOWNLOAD ITS SOFTWARE!!

1-0 out of 5 stars hook, line and sinker?
How can the Handmark (formerly Palmspring) company sell this as full retail product specifically labelled on the outside as NOT shareware, and nothing printed inside says otherwise, but after installation it says it is a limited use DEMO which you have to pay more to unlock? If this is not bait and switch, then is it not fraud? Why isn't there any review online warning other new victims/buyers? I must not be the only one who has experienced this, as Handmark NOW has an "instructions" web page (after the fact again) that says its newest "Gulliver" version ships Demo!

This product supports me on my travels with my palm (I use the new m505), I could not keep up with all of the information that this application can do for me. A MUST buy for anyone that is using the palm and is traveling. The language translater application is one of the best parts of this application, and the 24 hour travel alarm keeps me on time. All over the world. Do not miss this one for your palm. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Limited Functionality Disappointing
Ok. So I don't know too much about wine, but I was hoping that this little piece of software might help me. And I have to say that is does have basic information, but there are some glaring things that could have been done to make this program a whole lot better. First, I have the 2004 version, and the white wines I've been buying are mostly 2002 vintage, but the database is VERY limited on 2002 information. Secondly, the software has a personal "cellar" where you can keep your own information, and a wine database of all wines, but it didn't occur to the programmers that it might be useful to connect these two databases to each other. This means that if you want to add wines to your cellar, you have to manually enter all the information, instead of just selecting the wine from their database. It also means if you want to see what the rating is for one of your wines, you have to search for it separately in the other database. Third, the search capability has bugs. Search for a Riesling and it doesn't return all of them. Finally, the "Classic Wine Pairings" is very limited. Doesn't even listed Chardonnay. (Or maybe Chardonnay goes with everything???) In short, this piece of software underperforms for the price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great.
Although it lists many wines, it also is missing many common wines. You must have more memory than a PalmIII to install the program on your palm, and if you are using a AAA powered Palm, it drains them during hotsync. My favorite feature is the listinf of vintages and which years are good to drink.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must! (if you love wines and own a Palm)
I hardly give a product 5 stars. This case, it surely deserves it. I mean, come on, do you remember the wine ratings for each region by year? What about peak ratings? Haven't you ever drank a wine and found out later it was two years away from peak maturity?

If you do care for these things (and you must if you ever spend more ...bucks for a bottle) you owe yourself to get a copy of this program ...

One of the most useful items it the ability to add a wine to your cellar either manually or from the excellent wine reviews (Summer 2002 included.)

Add this to your Zagat Restaurant Guide for PDAs and people will be calling you to dine out... Wish they'll come up with a PocketPC version soon.
    Enjoy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Be Careful
This product has many wonderful maps to use with a COMPUTER but BEWARE you can't load the maps onto a GPS so unless you want to carry a laptop on your next hike - skip it. The product information is misleading by stating the program has the the ability to load maps to a "device" apparently this does not include a GPS so I ask what's the point? What a disappointment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too many CDs!
Which would you prefer? 17 different CDs to keep track of and constantly switch in and out of your computer, or 1 or 2 DVDs? This product may be good, but I made a mistake by not waiting until it came out on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Topo
I bought this for desert and mountain 'off road' exploration and camping. In that capacity, I am completely satisfied with its seemless scrolling, map labelling and GPS downloading features. I can plan my routes, mark and print the highly detailed maps, and have it ready to go. Upon return, I can add small non-descript roads, trails, mine locations, etc that I find in the field via my GPS. I used to spend 20 to 30 dollars for paper topo's for outback trips. Now, I'll literally save hundreds with this software. And because this software doesn't require mega 3D computer capabilities, I actually installed this software in an old Pentium 1, with a 130 meg processer, and it works flawlessly! Now, I have put my old, and (formerly) no longer used computer to work in the garage for my trip planning. Something I couldn't do with the Regional State Series because of it's computer system requirements. The only potential drawback to this software is the lack of level 5 mapping. This software actually goes to 1:25,000 scale, but the only difference I can ascertain from pure 'level 5' is the missing gridlines and details. This system includes elevation cross section detail, and for my purposes, that makes up for any missing level 5 details. Comparatively, Delormes Atlas's are 1:150,000 scale, this software is full level 4 or 1:100,000 scale... and 1;25,000 as well, it's awesome. And if you really need to get closer, you can zoom the area you want. Overall, if you must have the level 5, which is 1:25,000 scale with level 5 detail, get the regional or state series sofware. But for the price, with 50 states of seemless 1:100,000 topo, and the system requirements, this software is exceptional. Tred Lightly! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AWEASOME! But one or two drawbacks.....
This thing is AWEASOME! I alwyas am in situations where people want to know how to define a word. This thing works PERFECTLY! It's also brand new so all the words I know are in it. Nothing is left out. It includes all of those dirty words for you people who have to have a dictionary w/them :-p.

For it's size and content i rate this thing 4 stars. Unfortunetly it could do w/some color for you people who have to have Color in everything, like me. It also includes no pictures but thats ok. It loads a little slow like all cards you slip into the expansion slot but yoru talking maybe 5 seconds to open the dic. or thes. which isn't really a big deal.

I highly recommend this thing, though if palm wanted it to get 5 stars, they have to work on color.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very functional and informative
this is the main reason why I went with a Palm handheld rather than with the Sony models, which have palpably better picture.

The only idiosyncrasy preventing me from awarding this little pack a five star rating is that it's rather slow, but this is expected.

Overall this is a fine product and it sure beats carrying an incomplete little pocket dictionary or a prodigious, bulky, complete edition of Merriam-Webster's tome. Oh, and there's also a thesaurus too, but I never use it, so it would have been better for users like myself if there were a separate card option that contained the dictionary only.

2-0 out of 5 stars Get the newer version!
Palm is now selling the 11th edition of Merriam Webster dictionary, and with rebate, the cost is less than this one. It might even be in color.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll never believe how often this comes in handy!!!
You'll never believe how often this comes in handy. I use this all the time to get the correct spelling of a word or to look up a definition. I got if for only occasional reference but ended up using it much, much more than I thought I would. It's so fast and easy! Definitely one to keep with you all the time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped working on me
I bought this and used it occasionally for a few months. After this I found it would not work anymore, any attempt to open either the dictionary or the thesaurus just gave me a blank screen followed by a return to the launcher. Attempts to get support faile to generate any response. ... Read more
