Could be better
Good stuff:
1. great number of images for reasonable price

OK:
1. application speed and search engine
2. integration of vol.1 and vol.2

Negative (things that got worse since vol.1&2):
1. no image catalog (book) that used to be included with the vol.1&2. Yet, the price is still the same as before. It was nice to have the book and decide what images I want before actually doing it on computer.
2. I haven't found the usual "image fonts" in this volume.
3. Integration is somewhat weird starting with vol. 3. Why change the system that was working perfectly fine.
4. On-line? Why would I buy 50,000 images and want to get online and buy more? Yet I think that this online feature is slowing down things (although, it can be turned off).

Overall: not as good as Vol.1, but pic quality better than in Vol.2. Still, Hemera is cutting cost by not including the usual image catalog and changing things (user interface) that have been working fine before.

Are they Kidding???
This product is horrible.

The images of trucks, vehicles, cars are toys!! This is not a product that can be used professionally by a company looking to keep desktop publishing in-house.

Even for free-lance work, most of these images are too cheesy to use...I would be embarrassed.

There are far too many photo objects of the same item from different angles. More of a variety would be nice. I haven't yet found one photo object I can use either for our web-site, marketing material or ads.

Suggestion: Unless the images on the box are exactly what you need & the only images you need, DO NOT waste your time.

If only there were a way for us to view a comprehensive set of thumbnails before considering purchase.....

Very disappointed, wish Amazon had negative star ratings.

Horrid Programming
As usual, hemera has some great art, but it's really flaky to use.

Another awesome release from Hemera Technologies
For photo objects, I have used Hemera Photo Objects vol. 1 & 2 for advertisements in the past two years. I just found out several weeks ago that a volume 3 was released and without hesitation, I purchased vol. 3.

For those new to Hemera Photo Objects, if there is an object or person that you would like to use for the web or print ads (suitably for smaller print ads), these objects are without the backgrounds.

Although volume 1 & volume 2 maybe all that most people may need, I'm always in pursuit of photo objects for print and web that deal with certain situations. Hospital doing a health ad, I can find a photo that i need. Photo for a doctor ala OB/GYN...I can find pregnant mother photos. Photos for a mortgage company and need a family...I can find it on the CD. Photo of a cafe setting or event a toast with jam for an anime convention's web banner, found it on the CD.

But as a purchaser of stock image CD's and photo object related CD's, one of the things that Hemera does shine is the price. Great price and for 50,000 photo objects for under a hundred dollars, that's pretty cheap.

As for volume III, there are noticeable differences. When clicking on the photo objects icon (I'm using this program via MAC OS X), the first step which takes quite a bit of time the first time is that the search now includes all Hemera products from Photo Objects to Big Box of Art all in one search section. So, instead of bringing up multiple icons, you can search everything you need with the new photo object searcher. You can also search online for a photo via Hemera's business series photos for higher resolution photos but if you have no need for that, fortunately, you can turn off that option.

If you are looking for a photo objects CD, I do want to say that I would not start out with vol. 3. Vol. 3 is more like an addition to your current Hemera Photo Objects currently installed on your system.

Last, one of the things I wanted to see more from Hemera are more photos of multicultural groups. I'm glad to see more photos of people of different ethnicities included in volume 3. Also, as the times change, it's nice to see Hemera release a newer volume with newer photos of people. Trust me...some photo object CD's that I get from other companies look like photos from the 80's or early 90's and I wonder about those other CDs.

All in all, for principals of graphic design agencies or those who freelance, you can spend all the money you want on a freelance photographer, photo equipment or hundreds for photo objects and if you have the money, that's great. But if you don't or if you're company is on a budget and even if you have the money to spend, getting all three Photo Objects volumes is definitely worth it.

New Version lacks speed and elegance of previous
If you loved version 1 and 2, stop now. I wholeheartedly supported this developer's product in its earlier verions, but version 3 for mac is painfully slow in executing searches, lacks key functions of the previous versions, and has totally disappointed me. I won't be investing in future volumes.

While you can search all previous versions and companion Hemera products, (Big Box of Art Series) You can no longer copy the source cd's to a drive to eliminate the disc swapping syndrome without buying a separate and costly "network licencse" so the ease of use and speed are totally negated. You must CD swap, for all your earlier verions too so think about floppping around some 48 CDs!! This new version also must search out and connect to an online component every launch, despite turning this feature off, seaching is painfully slow. I have gone back to version 1 & 2, and my stand alone BBoA and put vol 3 back into the box, the images contained in this latest copy aren't a real addition to the previous volumes anyway. ... The arguable king of CD burning is back, and it's got a bag of new tricks. Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum Edition takes you by the hand and leads you through all kinds of CD and DVD creation, from data backups and music compilations to photo slide shows and feature films. User friendly to the last, it comes with a massive manual weighing in at almost 400 pages. Unfortunately, however, beneath the shiny surface of this program hide a few snags.

Burning data and music compilation CDs is simple enough with a "drag to CD" function--you can literally drag files from Windows Explorer onto an icon that resizes in the lower right corner of the desktop. More complex burning and copying can be done through wizards or manually.

For DVD authoring, Roxio includes support for every DVD burning format out there. It allows you to create movies, photo slide shows and more. It interfaces directly with digital video recorders to capture footage to the PC's hard drive, from where you can then burn them to a DVD. You can rearrange parts of a movie, trim clips, add sound, and more. The interface is functional at best, though, and casual film directors will pine for a simpler, more graceful solution than this program can offer.

The PhotoSuite applet's interface is overly friendly and not nearly powerful enough. Adding photos from a networked PC was a painstakingly slow process. Beats Sonic and Nero hands down
I am very much into burning CD's and now DVD's with the help of Easy CD Creator 6. I have used many other burning software and have nothing but problems. Installing Nero 5 made me lose my drives and I was stuck in Tech Support hell......p. I also tried making VCD and DVD movies with Sonic My DVD and it was a very frustrating experience.

With Creator 6 I was able to capture my video easily, add the content to the DVD Builder layout and I created a DVD with menu's that played perfectly the first time I tried. I am telling you and hope you believe me when I say, this is the easiest CD and DVD burning application available hands down.

I also forgot to mention the MGI photo application that is now owned by Roxio is also bundled as well. The biggest improvement over Creator 4 and 5 is the Audio application Audio Central which lets you rip MP3's and edit the MP3 file and ID Tags which contain all the information of the file. It compares to the audio features of Microsofts media player.

I strongly recommend this suite of burning products to anyone that has a digital camera, video camera, dvd player, or wants to backup or create audio CD's. This application does it all.

Not very user friendly...or with lack of support services
I have to agree, I am very disappointed with the software and services...don't like the idea of talking to a computer or calling long distance. My biggest problem is losing all audio files when video is copied to DVD. I paid 100 for a DVD of an occasion and when I went to copy with this software, I lost all the original audio tracks on the tape:-(...mine was also buddled with Plextor DVD-burner. I have to think twice before I buy another of these products as I now am shopping for something better to replace this software...I also have Pinnicle and with the rendering and failing to copy over to the DVD, it's just about as bad...customer service is better though.

Expensive but worth it
All CD&DVD burners tend to be fairly expensive, as usually software is. Comparing this to Nero, Roxio is a sure buy. It is really easy (surprise, surprise) to use, and it looks good.

It is also powerful, in the sense that you can do almost anything with it. You can even cut your music, design menus for your movie DVDs and create your own covers for your CD cases.

It comes with a helpful handbook that helps you deciding on wich application to use (Audio central, Creator Classic etc.).

One thing it lacks is a wizard. Wizards are always nice to use and keep you self-confident that you woun't waste your DVD disk though it is quite hard even without the wizard.

I didn't have any writer probelms, and I am overall happy with the product, though I think that once you buy an expensive DVD burner one has to buy an expensive program as well, though this does make burning so much easier than playing with codes and files and windows. If your looking for an powerful burner, this is what you should buy.

Save your money...
The best thing about this product is that I got it via eBAY for $15.00. I know now why it was so cheap. The module that I was really interested in, DVD creator, is a total disaster. It is hard to use, confusing, and does not produce repeatable results. Forget about getting help from Roxio. I tried using the email route. About 3 days after submitting a question, you get some form-letter jibberish back, unrelated to the question. I refuse to pay for long distance. I also refuse to buy any more Roxio products, at any price.

A Genuine Stinker
I got this software with a terrific Plextar PX-708UP disk drive. Why they include ROXIO I will never understand. Lot's of problems. It doesn't work along with Redxpress Express Copyware 3. After using Redxpress once, the computer would recognize the DVD drive, but the ROXIO program wouldn't. The exact same thing happened with my two machines, both equipped with Windows XP. Mac Fonts
Was pretty excited when I saw the fonts package. The box said "Over 1000 TrueType fonts" I figured that it meant just subtle variations of the same. While this was true for the majority of the fonts, the "BN" set of fonts had the most variety.

The little quick reference guide book was very helpful with letting you get a peek at what the fonts look like to see if you
even want to load it on your system. The book however was at times a little confusing, the names of the fonts would be on top of the fonts for some and then under the fonts for others. You had to kind of double check that the one that you wanted was the one that you installed.

Played with some of the fonts in LiveType and I had a blast. Since I kind of wanted to see the fonts in action I would look through the book then choose a font to load. For it to take effect I had to keep restarting LiveType for the font to show up. So after a while just loaded a bunch of them and then made some scrolling text. Had lots of fun with the "Xmas Lights BRK" & "New Year Dingbats". Being able to take just the dingbats and alter them on screen give rise to lots of new and creative ways for me to make my designs a bit more fun and have very different appeal. There were also some more down to earth fonts like
"Boron" & "Teen Bold" that gives a bit more punch than "Times New Roman" but still not be to off putting. Also previewed the fonts in TextEdit to get a feel for the differences quickly.

All in all really liked what the package had to offer even with the limited font manager and having to load each individual font. The variety of new fonts is worth it.

Finally a font collection for Mac!
It's about time someone gave Mac users a reasonably priced font collection!

As a font editing and creation tool, Macromedia's Fontographer4.1 can go a long way toward creating the myriad fonts digital artistsneed to accomplish the right look for each project. It provides theability to create custom fonts, either by freehand drawing, usingdrawing tools, or by importing images to use as templates.

At itsheart, it is a vector drawing application designed to build fonts. Themain drawing window features the usual selection of vector drawingtools, but it also has guidelines for drawing ascending and descendingletter shapes and for ensuring even letter spacing. There's also a verynice freehand calligraphy drawing pen with pressure sensitivity fordrawing strokes manually.

If you aren't up to creating your own fontfrom scratch, you can import an existing font and modify it by changingletter shapes, kerning, tracking, etc. Each shape has a set of controlpoints that can be tweaked and curved.

Fontographer's great but...
I have been using Fontographer for 5 years or more. In our part of the world (the South Pacific) there are numerous languages which have multiple vowels (e.g. Maori has 10 and Samoan has 20). These occur to lengthen a vowel by adding a macron above, to create a micro-pause (glottal) by adding a close single quote before and combinations of these. Creating special typefaces with these characters and making special linguisitic characters for dictionaries and academic books have been our major uses.

Fontographer has been wonderful. It has allowed us to do things we couldn't any other way. I have constantly been surprised at the power of the program and wished I could have more time to play with it.

BUT. As proprietor of a design and typesetting business I am used to purchasing and using a wide variety of graphic & layout software and fonts. Fontographer is showing its age in comparison. It no longer conforms to accepted standards for interfaces. It is unstable in the modern environment (I have to turn off every extension but the most basic to run it). And it hasn't been upgraded since Adam was a boy. I fear that it will become completely incompatible with a modern operating system soon and then I will have to abandon it. It is almost absurdly easy to create a card within minutes of installing Hallmark Christian Card Studio, for everything from birthdays to weddings. Big, friendly navigation buttons point the way, whether you choose a card to customize, or create one from scratch.

Installation couldn't be smoother. The process is streamlined, but not so much so that you automatically get stuck with a bunch of "trial offers" that are really advertisements for other products; dialog boxes let you choose to accept these or not. It's otherwise a matter of clicking past the legal mumbojumbo and restarting your computer. You will then be enveloped in the bubbly cartoon world that is this program's interface, with almost comically large buttons to click, pastel backgrounds, and flapping butterflies.

But Christian Card Studio offers more than just a pretty interface. The editing tools seem at first rudimentary, but they offer power and flexibility. Resize, rotate, and crop images. Edit text and alter its color, font, and size. Those who have used image editing software of any kind will experience no difficulty whatsoever, and even beginners will soon be slinging text and images with the best of them. The best way to learn is to dive right in and start experimenting, as the "tutorial" is pretty skimpy and unclear.

A few drawbacks: The Undo function goes back only one step. The super-friendly interface can be a bit much, especially when you want to perform a function that cannot obviously be done with those colorful, oversized buttons; on some screens, for example, there is no obvious way to go back to the previous screen. It is hard to take seriously the claim that there are "200,000 ways to create a card," unless you include every conceivable combination of text and image. Also, the Christian content is not all that it could be: the art gallery features many irrelevant categories such as Sea Mammals and Zebras. Finally, though the e-card function works well, be forewarned that the first thing your recipient will see is not an expression of your affection, but a technical explanation of how to view the card ("You can view your greeting by selecting either Run from the Start Menu or File/Run from the Program Manager...").

All in all, this program delivers a fun and satisfying experience. Though economy may not be a compelling reason to print your own cards--factor in the cost of card stock and ink for your printer and the price of printing a card is about the same as buying one--the chance to design exactly the card you want, with the aid of hundreds of thoughtfully written greetings, make this a wonderful tool for the home print artist. --David Stoesz ... Print your own Hallmark cards
The best thing about this software is that it includes hundreds of ready-made Hallmark cards for you to print. Of course you can customize them, but you are starting with a professionally designed card, which makes the process much different than starting from a blank page. Have you ever been wandering through the card shop and wanted to take the picture from one card and the greeting from another? Or take a card addressed "to my brother" and change it "to my friend/sister/dad/Joe/Mary/whoever"? Now you can. And of course you can add pictures of your family. You will get your money's worth out of this product, but after a few years of printing the included cards, the cards in some of the categories are starting to look pretty familiar.

DISAPOINTING SOFTWARE
THIS PROGRAM GIVES YOU A LOT OF GREAT GRAPHICS. I WAS REALLY DISAPOINTED IN THE MESSAGES INCLUDED WITH THE PROGRAM. I HAVE AMERICAN GREETINGS PLATINUM 6 AND IT HAS MORE SPIRITUAL MESSAGES THAN THIS ONE DOES. IT JUST DID NOT GIVE ME WHAT I NEEDED TO DO THE JOB I HAVE TO DO.

Excellent software-silly format
I recently purchased this product as I have used the Greeting Card Studio Deluxe from Hallmark. This program has so many excellent cards and lots of room for custom changes. The only feature of software that really needs work is the cutesy graphics that control the program commands. The program is easy to use even for someone new to computing and the resulting cards and projects have been really professional-looking. So nice if you like to remember special people with equally special sentiments.

graphics are just so-so
The graphics are not sorted as you would think. For instance, if looking for an elephant. You would have to click through pages of 'wild animals' to find an elephant. All graphics are sorted by main catogories. Same with flowers. You sort through several pages of flowers. You can't just click on a specific flower or group (bouguets for instantce.) If you want an envelope to match your card. You have to find an appropriate graphic by searching each graphic catogory. The graphic on the card I guess can be used if you use the crop but that only gives you a few choices. (crop square, round, oval etc. You can only crop out just so much, leaving in something you don't want.)

If you don't need to be an 'artist' then this is a faily good graphic program and the price is great.

The product is good and easy to use, but...
for Newsletters you can't do muliple pages in one file
and the save feature never tells you the current name (like in Word). The font size only allows you to increase/decrease by using a plus or minus sign. It would be ideal if you could make it a true value to avoid inconsistency. Lastly, you can't set your own margins because they rely on dialog boxes similar to Powerpoint - good, but not great. I'm glad I have the product, but for this project I'll transfer it over to Powerpoint. The fonts and pics are excellent, so with a good color printer you can do some amazing projects. I found this very useful for the one page projects or basic cards, however, it does come with many other features I have not used yet...bookmarks, labels, etc. ... Read more

Many Year User of Sierra Print Artist Software
I like the fact that I do not have to wade through a ton of graphics to find that special one I need. This program is as user friendly as all other Print Artist programs that my family uses. The graphics print out true to color. My daughter loves the Freedom program. She plans to use it for many of her History projects next year at school. I have used different versions of Print Artist through the years.(IA 2 - PA 15.0) I have even experimented with others but have always remained loyal to Print Artist. I would recommed everyone use this software for all of their graphic needs. I rate it 5+ stars.

Beware - Know what you buy
If you think that the claims made by the manufacturer actually come through and you are purchasing high quality images, think again. Although they offer a money back guarantee if you don't like the collection (shipping is on you), all too many images are blurred by an "artistic" coating that makes them unusable. Then they show you the real image in tiny slides. If you really want the "good" picture, you have to go to their web site and buy it... There are some images you can actually use in the package, but not nearly as many as they claim! I found some 350 variations of ONE picture (1 easter egg). The search engine is really buggy, but they offer an update online.

Just as good as Photo Objects 50K Vol I
After reading the previous reviews, I almost decided not to purchase Volume II. However, I decided that I liked Volume I so much that I'd take a chance. I am so glad that I did. Volume II works seamlessly with Volume I, so I am able to see all 100K images at the same time. Just as Vol. I has, the book of color thumbnails is excellent, but I never use it because I can see all of the thumbnails on the computer. I have XP, and it took a phone call to Hemera to figure out the totally non-intuitive way to get it to work with XP, but it's definitely worth it. The images are varied and clear, and beats any other clip art package I've ever seen.

Too much of the same stuff but still worth it.
As stated on the other reviews, I agree that this package has way too much repeated images. Expect to see over 232 balloons(some in same colors too!), and countless pictures of eggs.
This package needs heavy image editing. I have a feeling the package will end up half the size if all the repeated images were taken out.
Good side to this is that it is very affordable. Though it has a lot of repeats it is worth having. There are still lot of selections to choose from. Just dig dig and dig.

The search engine works very well. It¡¯s pretty easy to locate images with it.
If you have about extra 4.27GB of space in your computer, I strongly recommend copying all the images from 8 CDs to your hard drive for ease of use. Or else, it will constantly ask you to put in different CD each time you are looking for a different image. I don¡¯t know how it's organized but let¡¯s say you are looking for a rose(just an example), 3 out of 5 rose will be on one CD and the rest will be in the other CD. It¡¯s a pain to keep changing CD¡¯s.
For window XP users, you do have to download the latest upgrade from Hemera website.
Personally I think Hemera Photo-Objects 50K Vol I has more interesting selection of images than Vol II.
Either way, if you are a designer this will be pretty nice package to own.

A designer's dream product!
As I went to look for photo objects for my firm, I saw two people standing there holding a box of Hemera's Photo Objects. I couldn't help but tell these two people that the product is worth buying. They have their own design studio and Hemera Photo Objects Volume II is definitely worth owning!

For my business, Hemera's products have saved me a lot of time and money. With Volume 2 of the series, it featured an OS X version which I have been looking for and the search for photo objects in different categories is a blessing.

This review is for the updated version for OS X for my MAC G4.

The new search engine works beautifully and the program will first install the thumbnails (I recommend having quite a bit of drive space... If you are a graphic designer, I'm assuming that you do already). Thus when you type a word, you will see the thumbnails correspond to that word. Those that are bright and colored are for the version you own, if it's faded - those photos are from the other version (in this case VERSION I) that you may want to purchase.

I have had the chance to read the reviews on this product and here's the nitty gritty. For those who are professionals and non-professionals who are looking for photo objects that are non hi-res (600x600) with the option to save as 300DPI, you will love this program.

For designers - To get the best use for these images for bigger print sizes, I save the files as a transparent PNG, instead of TIF when I need to get the image for a project utilizing a larger dimension. Work with your desktop publishing program and export to EPS and then use your Distiller to make the PDF.

If you want a very hi-res version of the photo object, then you will need to purchase it from the company. There are many awesome photos in this collection. With 50,000 images...that is a lot. Sure, there are multiple ones of the same photo but my gosh...for the price. You can't beat that - for many stock photos, it cost $[money]+ for 100 photos. In this case, 50,000 for less than a $[money].

I can't comment on the PC version of this software but for those using the new operating system for the MAC, make sure that you find out that it is the OS X compatible version (the OS X logo on the front of the box).

Do I have a gripe? Not really. If anything, after seeing the photos that are faded out in the search box (the photos for Version I, which I definitely want to buy it now), I wish I picked up Version I as well. And that's definitely what I'm going to do next.

Poor quality artwork compared with older versions
I agree with the reviewer who advised: "don't bother to upgrade." Compared with version 8 (which unfortunately has some printing problems under Windows XP), the quality of the artwork in version 15 is poor. Gone are many of the cartoons and genuinely humorous pictures, gone are the victorian prints and original art collections, which made the older version a pleasure to use, and offered really unusual material.

It's still a decent program. It is easy to use and gives you access to many images on the DVD or CDs as well as online. But the quality of those images is so-so, especially compared with older versions of the program.

junk software
Wouldn't install, Print Master or 3D. In fact 3D registered me but did not complete the installation and when I e-mailed Broderbund about this problem, I got no response what so ever. Tried to return the junk software and store wouldn't take it back.

Makes a Pleasure out of creating cards
I have had two previous Printmaster programs but this one, especially being on DVD, is a dream.Acccess to and download of two free card program editions from the Broderbund site has been a most pleasant experience.This version is so much more in content than the other two I have used.

don't bother upgrading
I bought a new computer with windows XP and decided if i was going to be running the newest Windows I should run the newest Printmaster. I upgraded from Platinum 11 and I'm sending back Platinum 15 and re-installing 11. More than half the images are online now. You get three art discs and have to sort through online garbage to get the rest. It'sto get you to sign up for their Million image club for another $$. They took away some features and added nothing. Quality went down. Wait for them to bring it back up before upgrading. ... Read more

For Type Management, There Is None Better!
Are your fonts overloading your system? Are you like most of us and have a gazillion fonts on your system? Did you know that these fonts slow down your start-up times (both for Windows and applications)? This problem can be solved with a font management program, for which we have Adobe Type Manager Deluxe.

I have used the Light version of this product, and hated it. But the Deluxe version is entirely different. With this product, you will be able to turn your fonts on and off for different projects, categorize your fonts, and print/preview them. You can even make a book of your fonts, to share with friends!

Adobe Type Manager is extremely easy to use, and you can be up and running in virtually no time. You will also receive a few really good fonts from Adobe as a free gift. This program, when used properly, will manage your fonts for you! You can increase your load times, and keep all of your fonts too!

Try this program, and I think you will find that it simplifies your life, and makes computing a little more enjoyable. This is one Adobe product, that should not be passed up by any of us.

ATM semi delux
ATM is a very handy little program for managing fonts. It has great features, like advanced choosing of font folders, families, etc. The most useful item was the ability to easily turn on and off certain user designated font groups. It was also the only program I found that could print out all my fonts in a customized font booklet. The only reason I don't give this program the full five starts is because it seems like Adobe has left this program alone for a few years. It could use a new and improved interface.
