Lack of perspective
What good is all this work if you can't see it! I feel like I'm kneeling down and looking at the furniture straight on. I can't tell if a room will feel crowded. In 2-D mode the furniture is just unlabeled boxes. I keep moving a "table" and then figuring out it was a plant. You have to move furniture out of the way to drag something past it! And, it will not let you put things near each other! I can't put my sofa "under the edge" of my tree. It has to have it's "own space" I guess. I was very disappointed with this product. I hope I can find the receipt so I can return it (worst part is, I paid more than Amazon.com is asking!). I'm happier with my Total 3D Home Deluxe version 1.0! And that's not saying much!

I am soooo disappointed with this program.

As a child I used to love to desing home interiors from catalogs.

I was so excited to see that I could once again relive my child hood fantasies.

Boy am I disappointed!

The graphics are awful. The furniture, etc. in The Sims are more realistic than the furniture with this program.

The program is not user friendly.

I wish that I had saved my receipt from Walmart so that i could get my money back.

I probably could take it back..but the failures of this program are not Walmart's fault...but mine for being suchc a sucker.

Doesn't quite make it
The number of choices in some categories is limited. The program crashes/freezes often. I have had a number of difficulites placing objects and walls where I want them. All in all, a very frustrating program to use.

Liked this product
I am in the process of decorating my home but cannot decide on colors, furniture placement, whether to paint or wallpaper or both. Having bought this CD, I have finished two rooms and will start a third this weekend. This program enables you to visualize, to a very helpful degree, what your hard work may end up looking like before you invest any money or time. On the down side, I have found certain items in the catalog to be somewhat lacking (choices are limited in the areas of tiles, furniture, accent pieces, lighting), and occasionally the colors tend to fade or distort or something, but with a little imagination, you can put together a nice room. I have recommended this to several people.

Disappointing product
The concept benind this product is sound - and would be quite useful -- if it worked.

Which it doesn't. Color rendering is poor, the program bombs about once per 30 minutes, the calalogue of furniture is limited, obvious features (cut/paste) are missing.

easy for beginners, adaptable for pros
I have tried several home design programs over the last few years. This one was the easiest, provided the most, was the most adaptable, and was the cheapest! I couldn't believe it!
It is so easy to use, but offers many, many features. Lots of choices of furniture, windows, walls, colors; and most of them can be changed to your exact dimensions.
This program offers a 3-D walk-through, floor plans, and everything you need to design your own special house from scratch, or to decorate just one room.
The 3-D shows the room so well--it will save lots of furniture moving! You can see how things fit and look. And the custom colors on the walls and furniture are great! Really lets you see how the room will turn out.
The dimensions of the flat floor plans can be changed easily. There are sample home plans and room plans for folks with less creativity, or make a floor plan that matches your own home, or design your dream home. Almost everything works with point, click, and drag, or you can put in numerical dimensions and the program does it for you.
I am no artist, and have no CAD abilities, but I was able to do a layout of our whole house quickly and easily. Next I will do our dream home!
I can't say enough good things about this program. Wish I had found it before I wasted my money on the others.

The best floor planner for features vs ease of use.
I'm having a new home built by a major builder and wanted software that would allow me to easily recreate the floor plan to scale then walk through it in 3D and add furniture, lighting, window dressings, shelfs, plumbing, etc.. I tried three programs before I came across this one, and Home Design Quick & Easy is by far the best! It's so easy it doesn't come with a printed manual and it doesn't need one! The video tutorial gets you started and from there you can drag and drop a basic floor plan, then go in and knock out alls, add angled walls, add doors, etc. The user interface is incredibly intuitive, it's nothing like traditional CAD software. In fact, it took me only four hours to create a virtual, to scale mock up of my floor plan and I was learning to use the software during that period. The program does exactly what I wanted it to, but it also has many other features: It includes a huge library of prebuilt floor plans (all of which have blueprints available for purchase), most of the fabric textures can be purchased (supplier information is includedd with web links), and you can even scan in your own textures for carpet,wallpaper, paint, etc. It allows you to export a floor plan that can be taken to a professional architect and turned into a blueprint. It's Alright
This is a good product for someone who just wants to play around with the simple, basic idea of putting rooms together and looking at a house in 3D. Unfortunatly, the work area is small, while the menu on the right takes up almost half of the screen. You can resize the rooms, but that's it. And after awhile, the program itself becomes testy and crashes.

Simple and Easy to use...
I love this program! I have spent hundreds of dollars on other programs and this tops them all for only $20 bucks. The rendering is good, lots of objects to choose from. Excellent tutorial Video/Audio feature. I recommend this to anyone interested in visualizing your new home,addition, or just want to have fun as a hobby designing rooms and homes!

Good for one room, bad for entire house
I designed my new kitchen using this software. While the "one room" design worked rather well, I am yet able to complete an entire house layout. The program has several flaws, almost all involving its ability to "share" walls (i.e. living room's south wall is dining room's north wall). Like another reviewer mentioned, the wall problems cause vague error messages to pop-up that do not specifically tell you the exact location of the problem. At this point, you must exit without saving or your whole design will become corrupted.

This is a fun program if you like decorating, or if you don't mind building each room in your home as an individual design. However, if you're looking for a program strong enough to do extensive remodeling or new home construction, you're better off looking elsewhere. ... Read more

Very disappointed
It was not clear when I purchased this product that you could not use a scanned image of your own home to make modifications. Of course, you can send the company a picture of your home and they will "mask" the image to allow use with the program...for $100! Not only that, but the homes you could select from were very limited in style, not to mention most of the homes were so deeply shadowed you couldn't make out the different paint colors or siding selections well enough.

I would not recommend this product to anyone. You could get the same service for free at any local Sherwin-Williams store! ... Read more

Broken the moment you open the box
Promises much, delivers very little. Don't believe the hype. It looks good from a distance, but up close it's more hassle than help. Installing the software (exactly per instructions) was the worst experience I have ever had installing any software. After following all of the support advice on the website, error messages appear regularly. You must turn off all hardware acceleration to see the walls you draw. The real surprise came when I tried to put a door in the wall. Seems reasonable, doesn't it? I mean, we all use doors, right? Just about any structure you would draw would have at least one door, right? Not in this world. There is no capacity to insert a door or opening in any wall. Per the manual, once you have the landscaping program (they install together, and you can't have one without the other) the DOORS command is not available. So, you can't have doors. Sorry. Useless
For the first 30 minutes with the software I was impressed. But then reality set in. There are three problems:

First and foremost, the software is so buggy as to be unusable. While it did not crash, it would randomly move and change the walls placed in the floorplan. This was not snapping to grid - it would arbitrarily extend walls beyond the structure, or combining sections of walls located in different parts of the structure. Once this occurred, there was no way to edit the wall. When the defective wall was deleted by deleting the room(s), other walls at unrelated locations in the space plan would be corrupted.

Placing furniture revealed more bugs. Two identical chairs placed side by side, and one chair levitated about 2 feet off the floor. Entertaining, but not useful. Similarly, an area rug placed under a sofa preferred to relocate itself such that it neatly bisected the sofa on a horizontal plane.

At about the same point it started corrupting the floorplan, it began to slow down excessively. Changing tabs, instead of taking the second or so it originally did, began taking 10-20 seconds. Lest you think my PC might be a bit underpowered, it isn't: I've a 2GHz Athlon with 512MB of memory. MS Flight Simulator, which requires far greater rendering power, operates effectively with real-time screen rates. The OS is Win2K, and all the latest patches and driver updates are installed.

I did download the latest patch from the vendor (dated 2002), but this had no effect on the problems.

Assuming the bugs aren't bad enough, the documentation is worse than useless - it is wrong. In some cases, you can find the missing items on different tabs, but in others, they simply don't exist. For example, I wanted to add a roof to the porch I placed on the house. The help describes how to do this, but I never found the selections described. They certainly weren't located where the documentation indicates.

Finally, the application design is very poorly thought-out. For example, you are limited in roofs you can apply, and when I extended the overhang on the hip roof I had selected, it dropped the roof by this amount leaving walls poking through.

Mistake
This was thoroughly disappointing. I used Sierra's Home Architecht and wanted something a little more detailied. Should've stuck with Sierra products. This was hard to work with, the choices were extremely limited,and the graphics were cartoonish. Luckily they give you a 90 day money back guarantee. I'm sending it back today. Misleading information on the box
I have purchased the FloorPlan 3D version. It states on the box that it provides 1000 eitable floor plans in the soft ware. There are no instructions in the User guide to find these. The text support to speak to a person cost $9.95 per call. That is not mentioned on the box. On the box it states that there is a 30 day Money back guarentee. It does not state that it is a limited warranty for defective disks only.
I will be attempting to return this were I purchased it. Don't buy!

The best also compared with more expesive competitors.
I'm user of IMSI FloorPlan versions since v4 of this program. And however it has experimented many changes through this years, nothing compared with the excellences of this last version.
Obviously, as user, there are things that in my personal opinion could have been more developed or in other direction. Aswell as there are things that I still miss in such kind of programs (But it happens also with most of the competitors ones. And if any those ones have included such particular function or ability, those ones are just the most expensive ones).
Honestly, FloorPlan has evolutioned hand by hand to its users.

Sometimes non CAD or 3D Desing experienced users may find some difficulties to do their 1st. steps. But there is are free forums and now also excellent additional books that can show each one to create spectacular and amizing projects.The images contained will show you how powerfull FloorPlan v8 together with it's bundle CAD program TurboCAD is.

Long time user of FPlan
FPlan v8 has some of the best improvements of any version to date. In addition to new options for LightWorks Lighting and Materials the 8.2 update allows for below ground plane basements.

It is the only program I know of that allows for the use of imports from it's bundled Designer Cad program. You can use the hundreds of symbols included or make your own and import as 3ds files from Designer (a TurboCad light program).

Windows and Doors have unlimited sizing capablilites. UNLIMITED ! Any texture you wish to add can be done within the program. And VRML (virtual reality 'game like' walkthoughs) can be created with touch of a button, with textures included.

I've seen the advances in this program for over 4yrs. Any negative comment here are from inexperienced users. In addition IMSI provides a free Forum for users to post questions and examples of thier work.

I recommend the product to not only homeowners but remodeling contractors for creating both 3d Renderings and Working Drawings.

Their is no product better for the price !!

Not what I'd hoped for...
Attempts to redesign a kitchen with floorplan 3d were pretty unsuccessful. The program lacks an intuitive interface, and I spent a lot of time fighting the controls. To make matters worse, often I simply couldn't do things because the program had limited options- for example, when I tried to "place" windows and cabinets in a design, my efforts were blocked by a program that only really imagines standard sized cabinets, and a very limited number of standard sized windows.

Visualizing "results" was dubious at best. In the end, I drew plans up by hand. It was a bit like buying a word processor program, and finding it so awful that you go back to writing with pen and paper. Pretty disappointing. ... Read more

Awesome Software
I am somewhat surprised after reading some of the reviews on this product. I have used this program for about two years now and about six months ago, my husband and I finally created our dream home. It is really easy to use. My computer is about five years old and I've never had a problem with the program. I do suggest, though, that before you purchase this program/software, be sure it's compatible with your computer.
Needless to say, I would definitely recommend this product... ENJOY!!!

Good software features, but horrible testing and support
I actually managed to use this software to design my (now 2+ year old) house, but I never got the 3D rendering feature to work without crashing *on several different computers running different OSes (98, ME, W2K, XP)*. In fact, once I got beyond one floor in a custom floor plan (my house has 3 floors), I would save after each minor change, as the software crashed and corrupted the plan data file *very frequently.* Tech support claimed again and again that they'd never seen these issues reported before, which seems to be utter bullcrap, given the number of similar reviews here.

Oh, and I'm not a computing neophyte. I've been working with computers (Windows, UN*X, Novell, you name it) on all sorts of hardware for 10+ years. I've been MCSE certified for the last 7+ years (and still current) and have worked in a variety of technical roles for the top software company in the world for the past 8+ years. I know how to use computers inside and out, so the previous reviewer who suggested that, if you can't use this product, you have no business using computers. I think that comment is utterly ludicrous, as Total 3D Home Deluxe 3.0 is probably the worst software package I've ever had to suffer through. Please, don't buy this software...it is complete and utter crap.

Bad Program
I've tried to use this program on a PC running Windows 98SE. The system has 384 Mb of RAM, 12Gig Hard Drive, 500 Mhrtz and each time I've loaded this program and built a plan, I was either unable to save it or, after saving it, was unable to reaccess it. Support is on-line only, no telephone or email so I was unable to solve the Error messages.

I wouldn't recommend this program.

Awesome Graphics & Easy To Use
I've had this product for a few years now and used it on several different computers ranging from an NEC 166 mhz computer to an Ahtlon 2400 xp. It seems to reason that it works better on a faster computer with more memory and the 'bigger' your project gets the more speed and memory you need to operate the program. But overall, I've created some awesome floor plans with this product and the rendering feature is incredible for a novice designer. No, you won't be able to reproduce a buildable model of your future house and give it to your contractor, but that's not what this product is for. I'm not sure why so many people have trouble navigating the software either. It's pretty much self explanatory even without reading the instructions.

There are several features I like about the program. One is the ability to see your house from every different direction. Not only that but it's awesome to be inside a room, drag and drop a window and instantly see to the 'outside'. Another feature I particularly like is being able to open a space on the 2nd floor to see the room below and the ability to make multilevel designs and then, if your computer is fast enough, furnish it room by room. There are also an infinate number of wallpapers, floor coverings and furnishings. But the most amazing thing to me is the lighting effects when rendering a specific view. Even the kitchen cabinets have an option to show lighting effects beneath each cabinet.

The only thing I don't like about the program is the snapping feature. Sometimes objects snap to walls and other objects placed to close to them. On slower computers the program can just close out creating a program error, so the best advice is to periodically save whatever your working in the event this happens. The last thing I don't' like is when installing the program, it also installs an AOL icon on my desktop. If I wanted AOL, I'd send for their cd.

All in all, it's a good buy for what you get. And no, I'm not an employee at Broderbund...

I have a low end computer, around 3 years old, with Windows XP and the program works just fine for me, no shutdowns, no illegal operations, no problems! I haven't had any "Floating Furniture" either. Its simple to use, the only complaint I have is the same complaint someone else had: You don't know how big your room is till you start putting things in there. I built my house only to find out that the bed was about as large as the room. Other than that, I love it. I had a bit more problems with another program called 3D Virtual Reality Architect. Broderbund Total 3D Landscape Deluxe
I absolutely agree with the previous reviewer from Atlanta. This software was impossible to use. It's complicated and difficult to maneuver. Although I hold an advanced degree I felt totally lost and disappointed. I gave it to my computer savy daughter in law and she came to the same conclusion.She remarked "Basically it would not save what I did, would make my computer crash and was very difficult to use" I plan to write to the product manufacturer TLC Multi Media Inc, to see how well they stand behind their product.

Rocket Science was a lot easier!!
By the time you even learn how to use this software, you'll be too stiff and frail to get out ther and do it! This is a terrible product
... I wanted to use the Landscape Design 3D to make a plot of my yard. The first thing I did was try to add a fence, and it didn't work. I could add a fence segment all right, but then the program was stuck in "add fence" mode and no combination of mouse clicks or key presses seemed to get me out of it. I had to go into Task Manager and "end task" to get out of it.

Next, I tried adding a path. That worked OK, but the 3D view of it had some cropping issues such that the path appeared to be shaped like a semicircle instead of an arc.

None of the other products were much better, and yes, the install process was flawed for me too.

Don't buy this.

I had low expectations when buying this product, and this package failed to meet them. There are at least 3 different setup programs, none consistent, 2 of which are based on an old Windows 3.1 setup program, with 8.3 character expectations. After installing, 2 programs wouldn't run - "couldn't find file xxxxxxxx.xxx", so I don't actually know how these 2 run. The main 3d program launched, but is about useless. Very slow and limited
I found this to be the most difficult software I have ever used. Very dissappointed in it. The wallpapers, drapery and blind fabrics were limited and old fashioned. All in all, wasn't worth the money I paid for it and I got it on sale.

Too hard, too slow!
Although well reviewed in the press, I, too, found this virtually unusable. It is not very intuitive, and like the other reviewer I found it to be buggy and the cause of a multitude of GPFs. The furniture styles are limited, and it takes alot of time to build a floor plan for a house without square rooms. Then you try to furnish the room, and disaster strikes. I give up.

The only thing that was deluxe was the price...
I was extremely disappointed in Total 3D Home Deluxe (v1.0). This is the first software that I have ever bought that was unusable as shipped.

Entire rooms would disappear on walk-throughs, leaving only lonely door frames to mark their absense. The 3D rendering software generated almost photo-realistic images of rooms, but left ugly black visual artifacts on surfaces. If you wait 45 minutes for software to render an image of a bathroom, you shouldn't have to spend another 20 minutes in Photoshop trying to repair it!
