Very nice...
I recently bought this product and installed it and I must say that I am so pleased with it. It is very professional on the one hand but on the other, it's very down home and personal.

Shortly after installing and registering the software, I got an e-mail message from the President. He invited me to call or e-mail his support people if I had any questions. He also told me that I would get a free newsletter each month with additional recipes and cooking tips. I figure it was an automated system but I was still impressed with the approach.

The gals in the video clips are not barbie-doll actors. They actually know how to cook. The bloopers are my favorite. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.

The photos are mouth-watering. Oh yeah...the software works great too! I can't say enough good things about this software and the company.

Great Cook's Tool
Have used it most recently to create a cook book for my nieces's wedding present. It is also great as I create my own "recipe box" merging my favorite recipes with my mother's and friends' recipes.

No longer supported!
This software would not load on my operating system (Windows ME) and is no longer supported by anyone!! There is no recourse or upgrade available (I tried!) - proceed with caution as this purchase was a complete waste for me.

Cool!
Since you spend a lot of time on your computer anyway, why not keep your recipes on it? "Master Cook" allows you to key in ingredients, directions, and even special notes with each recipe. You can make a shopping list and Master Cook will even calculate a ball-park figure of how much the list will cost you at the store. You can plan weekly menus and meal plans. Not bad...
Installation of the 3 CD's was not as easy as I expected. And, I was hoping for more videos and food photos...but in general, the software works very well and for the price, it was a real bargain.

Once I got it installed, I downloaded the latest version off the Internet for free and away I went. The software is intuitive and offers a nice feature set. I actually like it a lot. I've tried others like MasterCook but I like Cook'n best.

I highly recommend it.

I don't like it!
I was not very happy with this product. I spent about 45 minutes looking thru the Lite & Healthy recipes only to discover that some of the ingredient lists were not complete... words were left out of the text, so I don't trust the accuracy of the recipes. I was very disappointed in the number of recipes in this 3 CD set. I expected a lot of recipes in every category. If the writers spent a little more time proof reading the recipes and including a photo of the completed dish (only a few have photographs), they would have a much better product. The format is also disappointing because it opens too big on my 15 1/2" laptop screen and I can't grab the bottom to make scrolling and reading easier and text doesn't wrap if you make the window more narrow. I won't use this product.

A let down
I was soooooo excited about this product, it sounded good, and the reviews were very good. I tried the diebetic cd first and the video had no sound. Awhile later I was offered the chance to by a program that allowed me to watch the videos, for 10 bucks! Wait, that should be free. It closed on me many times, although there were a lot of food options.
Then I tried the vegitarian cd and there were no videos. I was very suprised that for a cooking cd there were only pictures of 17 recipies. My computor expert boyfriend and I tried to use the other features, but found the instruction book to be lacking.
I will try it again, but was very disapointed the first time and would not reccomend it.

Not perfect, but pretty darned good!
I have a father who is diabetic and living alone, so I purchased this program in an effort to find him tasty recipies he can live with. The ability to scale recipies is excellent and only takes a couple of mouse-clicks. Customer support on this product is excellent; when I had problems upgrading (a free service at this point) the company contacted me in less than a day with a solution. My only quibble is that the nutritional database is less than complete. It is also somewhat difficult to understand how to add information to the database correctly. If you are willing to do your homework about absentee ingredients, this is a great program to have! I'd suggest going to the USDA as they seem to have nutritional information on EVERYTHING

I have tried a lot of cooking software. This is by far the best product on the market in my opinion. It's easy to use, simple to navigate, and very powerful. The company is well established and committed to supporting the product for a long, long time. They offer free upgrades off the Internet which I think is VERY cool. This is the real thing. Designed "to create an everlasting account of your journey through life," this program has the pros and cons of a Hallmark "baby's first year" book. Though it puts some limits on genuine creativity, and can at times be gooey, it makes packaging memories simple.

Text, images, hyperlinks, sounds, video, and any type of media you see on the Web can be entered into the My Life template. The skeleton of the program is a map of "cards"--a cover page, time lines, "Who have I been?" and so on. Each card has a subset of cards, and you can populate each card with almost any type of media or simply delete that card. For instance, you can populate the My Sexual History card with nothing more than a photo of your mate or the phone number for The National Enquirer Dateline.

Each card has an introduction, which usually includes quotes or vaguely historical facts, and a number of suggested questions that range from simple prompts ("Overall, how do you treat injuries?") to schmaltz. The ick quotient includes the life wisdom of Jackson Browne and Connie Chung, as well as examples like this: "'Well, this green monster came and... uh... well... he ate all the broccoli off my plate.' Kids just say the darnedest things--don't you think? What 'funny' things would you tell your family when you were a child?"

Yet the project is not an entirely unhealthy wallow in self-absorption. My Life offers this exercise on the My Friends card: "Maybe there was someone you hurt. Maybe they were odd to most of your friends. Maybe you actually liked them, but felt if would ruin your rep with your other friends? Remember this person here." That should give pause to any sullen teen or adult who has been one.

Those who want to work on My Life in privacy can password protect files. The application even has a clue feature so you can prompt yourself if you forget the password. On the other hand, if My Life is a group project prepared for a family reunion, graduation, or retirement party--which seem to be some of the best possible uses--My Life can be kept wide open with everyone contributing at their own rate. --Edith Sorenson ... Check it out before you buy
ChicagoJess is right - the 4 CDs are not integrated. The Recipe Center Software, 1 of the 4 CDs, is available as a free trial download from RecipeCenter.com. Check it out before you buy it. I wish I had known that was an option. If you do buy it, save yourself some grief and download the upgrade to the newest version before you start using it.

The Recipe Center recipe storage, search, sizing, recipe card printing, and download features seem OK. User interface is OK. The ingredients can be added to a shopping list with a click. However - the ingredients are not grouped by category and they do not reliably consolidate if you add more than one recipe to the shopping list. I got sugar listed 3 times on one list. There's a column for price, but if you price milk on one shopping list, the price is not saved. You have to re-price it on the next list.

The nutrition analysis is incredibly labor intensive and a bit flaky. You have to link each individual ingredient to the USDA database. I got some strange results, too, and can't figure out what I did wrong.

With Recipe Center, you cannot do meal planning. You have to use the Home Cooking software (2nd of 4 CDs) for that. The 2 sets of software do not access the same recipe database and the Home Cooking recipes do not have nutrition analysis.

User interface on Home Cooking is crude by today's standards. You can associate categories and prices with the shopping list, and add non-food items, which is nice.

I did not check out the other 2 CDs in the package - Food Lover's Encyclopedia and BarBack.

I'm looking for an integrated cookbook, meal planner, and nutrition analysis. This software is not it.

Misleading!!!!
I bought this product because I wanted a storage system for my recipes. I bought this at "Best Buy." After installing this program into my computer, I learned that it is NOT a storage system but a glorified cookbook w/ a shopping list. It can however be a storage system for YOUR RECIPES if you are willing (according to the writer of this CD) to kick in an additional $[]. The author is very apologitic about the "Mislabeling" and even refers you to the publisher to place a complaint, however is not willing to give any kind of a discount for your troubles.... In a nutshell, think twice before purchasing this item!!!!

4 CD's are not integrated
I bought this set at a local store and since it was inexpensive I thought what the heck. Well you get what you pay for and while this has 4 CDs they aren't worth much. I assumed, wrongly I might add, that the 4 CDs with the different programs were somehow integrated. That's slap one because they aren't and while each individual title sounds nice they don't have enough meat in any one to be of much value. I got the cooking software MasterCook as part of the setup when I bought a computer 5 years ago. I had hoped this software with it's slick packaging and claims of superiority would give me something better. I have already uninstalled this waste of space. Great while it lasted
I really loved using this program.You could add your own recipes, give special nutritional information for items they didn't have in their data base, figure out how many calories for each serving and more.This program even allows you to put your recipes into the program using metric or US measures, and still gave you the proper nutrition in grams, even if you aren't metric.Any recipe could be given any number of categories - like vegetarian, dairy, cakes, beef, holiday or whatever - all the categories could be user defined and when you were looking for something specific - like a vegetarian holiday recipe, you could search for that combination.

The only problem with this program is that if you're running Windows XP and you've gotten service pack 2 - this program will no longer run on your computer.What a bummer! ... Read more
