I'm happy to say they fixed a few problems. They also created a few more. There are some staple elements that make you wonder why you ever bought any rule books. There's no less than nine of them, even more than version 1.0. Of course, that led me to wonder where the other ones were. Where's the Complete Book of ? The Wizard's Spellbooks? It doesn't matter. That's for Version 3.0. Something seems to have happened to the Monster Manual, however. The pictures are no longer neatly displayed next to the descriptions. Instead, they're crammed into the RTF documents like the rest. Who wants to look at a monsterful of naked text? What you will find is a hand-dandy number crunching program that allows you to make sense of all those Player's Option rules. I actually enjoyed this system, even if it was a bit awkward, because the Player's Option rules can make creating a character a much more complicated process. Then there's the database. This database allows you to customize various objects, from magic items to monsters to encounters to kits. Which is neat. But only kits, and kits in the Players Option sense. Which means the kits are very weak. Also, there's a bit of confusion between giving a kit a bonus to a proficiency, a free proficiency, a preferred proficiency, and a required proficiency. Forget customizing classes -- THOU SHALT NOT TOUCH THE CORE RULES! Okay, so it's not THAT customizable. I forgive all that. Having the cash equivalent of over $100 on a CD makes it worth the investment, especially if you're fond of hacking up the rules and want to insert your own house rules. To me, one of the biggest benefits of having AD&D rules in electronic text is what you can do with them. What I can't forgive, however, is the mapping programs. They tried. They tried very hard by including the Campaign Cartographer, which proved to be exceptionally dense and not particularly effective in mapping anything at all. I suspect it can be used by someone capable who wants to sit down and read the instruction manual, only there is none that accompany the CD. But that's not all! There's also another mapping program, the original mapping program that came with Version 1.0, Map Maker II. That collective groan you're hearing in the background is from anyone who ever bought the first version. The reason they're groaning is because that sorry excuse for a mapping program didn't work. The good news is, it works now. That's about it though. Worse, it's not exportable to any useful graphics format. No .pds, .bmps, .gifs. or jpgs. What good is this map? It works, but it's not even compatible with the Campaign Cartographer on the same CD! Ultimately, the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Core Rules CD-ROM 2.0 does what it's supposed to do: it's a solid reference that would make a valuable addition to any Dungeon Master's collection. But it could be better.
First the good things that this product provides: *access to the handbooks is nice especially if you don't have one of them. *character generation is quick *ability to make maps on the computer *speeds up monster encounter creation Now the many drawbacks! I COULD GO ON AND ON. HERE ARE THE KEY FACTS. IF YOU ARE NOT CONVERTING TO 3RD ED IN AUGUST THEN THIS PRODUCT IS STILL USEFUL (IF YOU HAVE THE PATIENCE TO CUSTOMIZE A LOT OF STUFF) HOWEVER, I HAD THE SAME FEELING AS THE LAST REVIEWER. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD DO MORE!
Now for the drawbacks: First, it is pretty buggy. I downloaded the latest patches and upgrades from the web, and that helped a lot. But there are several places where it crashes, or does dumb things (like generate 2000 mind slayers for a random encounter). The documentation is pretty useless. Most of the stuff is so straightforward that documentation is hardly necessary, but not so for Campaign Mapper. I can now say I like CM, but it took quite a bit of experimenting and correction of mistakes to get the hang of it. This is NOT a game. It is simply a tool, primarily for DM's. There aren't enough character portraits. You can add your own, or perhaps find some on the web to download. But given that most characters start young, there are scarcely any portraits of youth. I have this vague feeling that it should do more. It doesn't really do anything that I can't do without a computer. But it sure does it faster and neater! For quality, I'd only rate this 2 stars. I'd have been pretty embarrassed (I'm an applications developer) to put something out with this many bugs. I'm going to be checking their web site with some regularity for patches (and upgrades, hope, hope). But as to overall value to me as a DM, definitely 5 stars. It could be a lot better though, so if there were competing products I'd probably have to rate it 3 to 4 stars. Signed, Karen's hubby

Final Draft 6 does it all the formating for you. A function called "SmartType" finishes off character names for you, so you don't have to keep typing in names. This is wonderful when you have two or three characters talking to each other in a string, so you can quickly type the conversation, as if it were going on in front of you. When I transferred my previous screenplays into Final Draft, it took about an hour or so to reformat a 106-page document correctly. Final Draft was able to interperate about 80% of the formatting correctly, getting confused on mostly transitions and telling the difference between some scene headings and actions. Although, it knew exactly what was dialogue just by where it was placed in the word document, which I thought was remarkable. Some of the templates for actual T.V. shows are a little silly, but they serve their purpose: giving you the raw format for a certain show, which can vary greatly depending on the series. If you have your own show you've created, you can save a blank document with the initial beginings of the script as a template and be able to have a fresh document ready for your next episode. Final Draft is a great purchase for the novice screen writer learning the format, and a wonderful time-saver for the somewhat-established to established veteran.
The big issue: Onscreen text looks atrocious. After a year on the market, Final Draft 6 still doesn't use Mac OS X's technology to render beautiful anti-aliased text. Third-party fixes, like Silk, work only halfway to solve Final Draft's shortcomings. But should an application that costs $ need fixing at all? Unacceptable. And beware of WYSIWYDG, or "What You See Is What You Don't Get." You might find the perfect font in the Font Menu, but good luck applying it to your screenplay. Worse, there are occasional text hiccups, where the text-rendering is garbled and screen redrawing is skewed. 'Authorization' remains a nuisance, too. (Bet you didn't remember to 'deauthorize''before a system reinstall or upgrade.) I know of no other software that requires such an unwieldy process just to stay running smoothly. Final Draft 6 is still better than a typewriter or a standard word processor for writing scripts, but not by much. Considering the steep price, maybe it's time to revisit the competition.
I am a VERY basic computer user and feared formatting software would be nothing short of a nightmare, but within a month I formatted three one-hour teleplays, started on a screenplay, and knew how to navigate the software fairly well. The Smart-type feature is a lifesaver, and the various view, outline, and report features are incredibly helpful and save loads of time. There are a few features that were more complicated to learn, and as an absolute novice I had some questions that I couldn't find answers for in the program, but overall - I'm thrilled with it and use it everyday. I'd recommend this software to anyone, rank amateur or paid professional ,who's looking for a user-friendly, helpful, and reliable formatting system.
Don't mess around with other programs. This one is the one to use. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review Installation was fast and trouble-free. The application's interface is well-designed and navigation through the program is self-explanatory. From the main menu you can select Piano Lessons, Recording Station/Jammin' Keys, Music Games, Music Reference, and SoundCheck. We moved right into the piano lessons, which cover getting started, right-hand training, rhythm training, and more. You can also zoom in on individual chapters, and select solo exercises from a drop-down list. After choosing right-hand stretches, a video window popped up with our friendly instructor, Hugh Berberich. The camera view is over-the-shoulder, top-down on his hand as he slowly plays a scale up one octave. The video window allows one to pause or repeat the lesson, and move to the next lesson when ready. Throughout this and other lessons, Hugh explains concepts such as intervals, bars, and sharps and flats in a clear and concise manner. Having made it through a lesson with Hugh, we then checked out the recording capabilities of Teach Me Piano. The recording station looks like a simple mixing board, with 12 sliders; Record, Mute, and Solo buttons; LED level meters; and transport functions. The recording station is quite simple and effective for multitracking keyboard parts, transposing MIDI data to different keys, and assigning the recorded MIDI data to the 128 General MIDI-compatible instruments. Although there are no features like editing or effects, it works well for the purposes of simple recording. Additional features like music games and the Jammin' Keys section provide a respite from the lessons. Overall, Teach Me Piano offers a lot for the beginning or intermediate piano student, and would probably appeal to those simply interested in the piano's role in modern music. --John Bosch Reviews (21)
After reading the reviews of Teach Me Piano Deluxe elsewhere, I must admit that I was geeked. However, after reading the reviews of the same software here at Amazon.com, I was somewhat apprehensive due to the bad reviews it received, especially for Windows 2000 users and especially the boxed retail version sold in stores. Therefore, I called Voyetra customer support, told them that I was running Win 2K and there were bad reports on the boxed software and Win 2k. He assured me that there was no difference between the download version and the retail version. I took him at his work and purchased the retail version. WRONG MOVE! It would really be a nice package IF IT WORKED! As another reviewer stated, the sound is terrible. The MIDI settings keep changing. Sound is intermittent and may leave you at any time. Using the headphones with this software is a nightmare. Sometimes the sound comes out through the speakers when it should come out through the headphones. Then it might come to its senses and do the right thing. This software is also a CPU hog. Most of the time, CPU usage is 100%. It hangs constantly, especially during the video episodes and during the verbal instructions. Not only will this software not work properly, but after I kill it in Task Manager, it has the nerve to foul up any other apps that I may want run, even Internet Explorer! I have rebooted my system tonight 8 times in the course of 1.5 hours. This is totally unacceptable. I will be calling Voyetra on Monday for an upgrade or a refund. I write software for a living and I am extremely familiar with how to install and use vast numbers of software packages. However setting up and using software should be a no brainer for even the most novice of users. I feel sorry for a novice trying to wrestle control of their computer back from this software. UPDATE: I was FINALLY able to get this program to behave. I was able to, by hunting and pecking, to figure out that for my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum sound card that I had to set specific MIDI Synth before the MIDI Input would work and I had to do it in a specific order. It seems that Voyetra not only wants to sell you their software, but they only support the Turtle Beach sound card which they also want to sell you. With Sound Blaster soundcards being the most popular sound cards, not to mention the fact that many PCs motherboards now come with integrated sound cards, this is unrealistic. I know that every sound card may not be tested, but at least the most popular ones should and there should be a non-Turtle Beach compatibility list on their website. At the very least, the software should warn the consumer that they purchase this software at their own risk if they have a non-Turtle Beach sound card because Voyetra will not provide technical support BEFORE THEY PURCHASE THE SOFTWARE. Since I eventually got it to work after much PAIN, I upgraded my rating to 2 stars.

Personally, thanks to my thorough research today I've decided to definitely stick with my beloved Print Artist. I've been using Print Artist for years and upgrading when a new version comes out. This time I thought I might try something different for a change, but I've changed my mind; I'm going to stick with Sierra's Print Artist. It has all the same extra features and bonuses as the other greeting card/desktop publishing programs and more, it's extremely simple to use once you get the hang of it, and there is no false advertising to it - it really includes everything the box for it says it does. Also, the print quality is excellent. Trust the reviews you see here. If you want honest, quality greeting card software, DO NOT waste your money on Print Shop.

One new feature I like particularly is the "My Albums" list. Now, I can keep a track of my built albums (I've built a lot!) and make any change of any album whenever I want to. I don't understand why there is a need to save, as one reviewer wrote. The album I built is the copy that saved from the preview. I can make the change of the copy using the same GUI controls I use during preview. There is no need to dig into the album files. Perhaps the reviewer is commenting on the version 2.03, which cannot be applied to this version. I am an amateur photographer, and occasionally use Jasc Paint Shop to do some preliminary photo editing works. I didn't expect that 3D-Album Picture Pro come with a great photo editor, and did not even give it a try until the last weekend when I decide to create my own book cover. Holly cow, I can't believe that an album software come with such a powerful photo editor that is even better than my dedicated editing software. Jasc's tube brush is always my favorite but making my own tube is rather difficult. In Picture Pro, I simply create an image group and then drag and drop image into the group. I am very impressed by the Picture Pro's 3D layer styles and vector illustration tools. I clicked the book cover image in the Photo Show page, choose the edit menu, and the software brings the book cover directly into the editor where I can put my own design. I can switch back and forth between the Photo Show page and the edit page until I get a happy result. I bought the version 2.03 about one and half years ago. I remember there was a problem with my old HP laptop (not with my desktop) with S3 video card. The software will crash after running about 5 minutes. The support told me that the crash is due to the bug in the S3 video driver and upgrading the driver will solve this problem. But S3 video card was quite old and the support from HP was discontinued. I eventually got my new Dell Inspiron with GeForce FX. Both the old and new version now run smoothly without any problem. So, before buying the software, you should have a check of your computer. A decent 3D video card such as nVidia's GeForce or ATI's Radoen is the key, no matter how fast your CPU or how much memory your have.
But I could put up with that if the albums themselves worked. I tried two different albums, both had the same problems. They would freeze after flipping through a few pages. The album would end, the book would close and yet my pictures were still flipping in mid air. The shortcut created on the desktop would open the album but noting else, it would crash everytime. If you want a really good photo editor and a good slideshow (it won't have 3D backgrounds, maybe if you create them) try Ulead's PhotoImpact XL. For the price you get 1000 times more product and it works 100%

OK: Negative (things that got worse since vol.1&2): Overall: not as good as Vol.1, but pic quality better than in Vol.2. Still, Hemera is cutting cost by not including the usual image catalog and changing things (user interface) that have been working fine before.
The images of trucks, vehicles, cars are toys!! This is not a product that can be used professionally by a company looking to keep desktop publishing in-house. Even for free-lance work, most of these images are too cheesy to use...I would be embarrassed. There are far too many photo objects of the same item from different angles. More of a variety would be nice. I haven't yet found one photo object I can use either for our web-site, marketing material or ads. Suggestion: Unless the images on the box are exactly what you need & the only images you need, DO NOT waste your time. If only there were a way for us to view a comprehensive set of thumbnails before considering purchase..... Very disappointed, wish Amazon had negative star ratings.
For those new to Hemera Photo Objects, if there is an object or person that you would like to use for the web or print ads (suitably for smaller print ads), these objects are without the backgrounds. Although volume 1 & volume 2 maybe all that most people may need, I'm always in pursuit of photo objects for print and web that deal with certain situations. Hospital doing a health ad, I can find a photo that i need. Photo for a doctor ala OB/GYN...I can find pregnant mother photos. Photos for a mortgage company and need a family...I can find it on the CD. Photo of a cafe setting or event a toast with jam for an anime convention's web banner, found it on the CD. But as a purchaser of stock image CD's and photo object related CD's, one of the things that Hemera does shine is the price. Great price and for 50,000 photo objects for under a hundred dollars, that's pretty cheap. As for volume III, there are noticeable differences. When clicking on the photo objects icon (I'm using this program via MAC OS X), the first step which takes quite a bit of time the first time is that the search now includes all Hemera products from Photo Objects to Big Box of Art all in one search section. So, instead of bringing up multiple icons, you can search everything you need with the new photo object searcher. You can also search online for a photo via Hemera's business series photos for higher resolution photos but if you have no need for that, fortunately, you can turn off that option. If you are looking for a photo objects CD, I do want to say that I would not start out with vol. 3. Vol. 3 is more like an addition to your current Hemera Photo Objects currently installed on your system. Last, one of the things I wanted to see more from Hemera are more photos of multicultural groups. I'm glad to see more photos of people of different ethnicities included in volume 3. Also, as the times change, it's nice to see Hemera release a newer volume with newer photos of people. Trust me...some photo object CD's that I get from other companies look like photos from the 80's or early 90's and I wonder about those other CDs. All in all, for principals of graphic design agencies or those who freelance, you can spend all the money you want on a freelance photographer, photo equipment or hundreds for photo objects and if you have the money, that's great. But if you don't or if you're company is on a budget and even if you have the money to spend, getting all three Photo Objects volumes is definitely worth it.
While you can search all previous versions and companion Hemera products, (Big Box of Art Series) You can no longer copy the source cd's to a drive to eliminate the disc swapping syndrome without buying a separate and costly "network licencse" so the ease of use and speed are totally negated. You must CD swap, for all your earlier verions too so think about floppping around some 48 CDs!! This new version also must search out and connect to an online component every launch, despite turning this feature off, seaching is painfully slow. I have gone back to version 1 & 2, and my stand alone BBoA and put vol 3 back into the box, the images contained in this latest copy aren't a real addition to the previous volumes anyway. ... Amazon.com Review Though 3d Home Landscape allows you to focus on the interior of a home, it puts far more energy into exterior design. Terrain modeling makes it possible to mold the land itself to any specification before features are added, with hills and even lakes adding depth to a given project. Using this feature it is possible, with practice, to closely model your own land and then to analyze its design strengths. Once time comes to actually lay down foliage, 3d Home Landscape's Plant Encyclopedia is there to help, carrying detailed information on maintaining every plant in a garden. Your finished designs can be previewed with an eye to how the yard will appear in all four seasons. Like most home and garden design programs, this one will let you move through the three-dimensional model of your house and yard, viewing each creation from all angles. It is a complex program that requires patience in the learning stages. Fortunately, the user's guide is thoughtfully written and easy to use, and there are first-rate animated tutorials available with the program that cover each new stage of the landscaping process. And once mastered, 3d Home Landscape can help you work out every imaginable garden design, no matter how wild or daring. --Alyx Dellamonica Reviews (10)
Again, long story short...after limping through a multitude of crashes, letters to tech support and getting answers back e.g., "I don't know, I don't use the program" and countless other frustrating and irritating things, today was the last straw. I opened the program and four months of re-creating my four bedroom tri-level home and yard are gone to waste. As soon as I open the program to do anything, it crashes. I have re-installed and to no avail. BY ALL MEANS, save yourself the frustration and look for another package. I used to work in the computer industry up until '98 and Broderbund typifies the reason I got out...mediocrity!! If you are doing a very simple two room house, want to WOW your friends or clients twirling the house around, do walk thrus (on the computer, can't make a separate walk thru file and send to someone), or you want your three-year old to be an architect and start them off early...buy it! Otherwise...go back to the ole drafting board....which is what Broderbund ought to do.
So, I tried to create a new lot from scratch. Instead of a flat plane to show our new lawn, the program created a cylinder. The cylinder could not be modified no matter how I tried. I finally decided to accept the incorrect dimensions of the rectangular plot (40 x 110) and just insert sample plants (trees, climbers, etc) from the toolbar, to get an idea of what would look good next to what. The program crashed. When it did allow me to add the plants in outline view, they did not show up in 3D view, which means you can't see what they will look like in your garden (the whole point of the program!) The program crashed again when I toggled from 3D view to outline view. (My system surpasses the system requirements, so that was not the problem). I am not a software neophyte, and I followed both the manual and the tutorials step-by-step to create a diagram, but the software did not work. I don't believe Broderbund tests this before releasing it to the public. If anyone has found a quality landscape design software program, please tell me. Right now, I'm ready to turn to Powerpoint.

I wasted my money.
You would think when you buy an expensive software program you would at least get free email support. No way with Scansoft! Their philosophy is to milk their customers for as much as they can get, charging $20 for each support question by email. If you need to buy an OCR program for your Mac I would highly recommend buying Readiris instead. Although far from a perfect program, it puts OmniPage to shame. Unlike Scansoft they do provide free email support. Readiris is also very good at preserving the format of a document when translated into Word Processing and Text Editing programs. This is something that OmniPage fails miserably at.
Not so with this version. In some key respects it is not apparent how it works even after consulting the manual. There are many more errors in text and formatting. Saves don't even go smoothly. I would guess that something that formerly took me 45 minutes now takes me several hours, including corrections. And I still don't know why the text selection doesn't flow from one page to the next in a multi-page document, as it used to. This product should have been put in the "leave well enough alone category." ... Read more

Amazon.com Burning data and music compilation CDs is simple enough with a "drag to CD" function--you can literally drag files from Windows Explorer onto an icon that resizes in the lower right corner of the desktop. More complex burning and copying can be done through wizards or manually. For DVD authoring, Roxio includes support for every DVD burning format out there. It allows you to create movies, photo slide shows and more. It interfaces directly with digital video recorders to capture footage to the PC's hard drive, from where you can then burn them to a DVD. You can rearrange parts of a movie, trim clips, add sound, and more. The interface is functional at best, though, and casual film directors will pine for a simpler, more graceful solution than this program can offer. The PhotoSuite applet's interface is overly friendly and not nearly powerful enough. Adding photos from a networked PC was a painstakingly slow process. Worse, once we'd picked out a few dozen photos, we went to create a VCD slide show and were met with an error message that even baffled Roxio tech support. Another caveat: Easy CD automatically checks for product updates, but it forces you to register the product in order to download them. This invasion of privacy aside, Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 does provide some easy and user friendly features at the cost of clunky interfaces and limited options for power users.--Joel Durham Reviews (187)
With Creator 6 I was able to capture my video easily, add the content to the DVD Builder layout and I created a DVD with menu's that played perfectly the first time I tried. I am telling you and hope you believe me when I say, this is the easiest CD and DVD burning application available hands down. I also forgot to mention the MGI photo application that is now owned by Roxio is also bundled as well. The biggest improvement over Creator 4 and 5 is the Audio application Audio Central which lets you rip MP3's and edit the MP3 file and ID Tags which contain all the information of the file. It compares to the audio features of Microsofts media player. I strongly recommend this suite of burning products to anyone that has a digital camera, video camera, dvd player, or wants to backup or create audio CD's. This application does it all.
It is also powerful, in the sense that you can do almost anything with it. You can even cut your music, design menus for your movie DVDs and create your own covers for your CD cases. It comes with a helpful handbook that helps you deciding on wich application to use (Audio central, Creator Classic etc.). One thing it lacks is a wizard. Wizards are always nice to use and keep you self-confident that you woun't waste your DVD disk though it is quite hard even without the wizard. I didn't have any writer probelms, and I am overall happy with the product, though I think that once you buy an expensive DVD burner one has to buy an expensive program as well, though this does make burning so much easier than playing with codes and files and windows. If your looking for an powerful burner, this is what you should buy.

The little quick reference guide book was very helpful with letting you get a peek at what the fonts look like to see if you Played with some of the fonts in LiveType and I had a blast. Since I kind of wanted to see the fonts in action I would look through the book then choose a font to load. For it to take effect I had to keep restarting LiveType for the font to show up. So after a while just loaded a bunch of them and then made some scrolling text. Had lots of fun with the "Xmas Lights BRK" & "New Year Dingbats". Being able to take just the dingbats and alter them on screen give rise to lots of new and creative ways for me to make my designs a bit more fun and have very different appeal. There were also some more down to earth fonts like All in all really liked what the package had to offer even with the limited font manager and having to load each individual font. The variety of new fonts is worth it.
MacFonts has over 1000 TrueType fonts in three categories: classic, refined and designer fonts. You can even use the included font manager to activate your font selections temporarily or permanently; very cool! ... Read more

PROS: CONS: Needless to say, I got a bit frustrated, and hopefully without sounding like a know-it-all, frustration just doesn't happen to me very often when it comes to design programs. Don't get me wrong, I had those days back when I was learning to use design software, but using a consumer-based program such as this should have been simple for someone with my design background. I don't believe though, that it had to do with being easy or difficult, as much as it had to do with the limitations of the program in my circumstance. But for the newbie, I believe it would be considered a difficult program to use. MY ADVICE:
