Amazon.com Review

Roxio VideoWave Movie Creator is a great solution for novice videographers looking for a simple and easy way to edit and create video projects. The software eliminates most of the complexities of video editing through an automated approach to video movie creation. VideoWave helps you save hours on your video editing and easily turn home videos into movies on DVD or CD.

VideoWave does a good job of making the video capturing process as simple as possible. It allows you to quickly capture video from a camcorder, capture card, or USB video camera and move it to your hard disk. Once you capture your video, choose from three different editing modes with varying levels of automation--CineMagic, StoryBuilder, and StoryLine Editor. CineMagic mode offers a bit of design assistance by letting you add songs to your videos, but the actual video editing is automatically performed by CineMagic. CineMagic will synchronize the edited video with your music and add visual effects and transitions based on your preferences. CineMagic is a great tool for creating simple music video-style movie clips.

StoryBuilder mode also offers design assistance by guiding you through the entire movie-making process using event-based theme templates. It lets you customize components such as opening and closing animations, and selecting background music. Because StoryBuilder lacks editing tools, don't expect eye-popping results. When you're done with CineMagic and StoryBuilder modes, use StoryLine Editor for additional design work. StoryLine Editor gives you greater design control than other modes. You can edit or enhance all the individual elements that make up the movie, and access a set of easy-to-use editing tools, transitions, text overlays, graphic overlays, and over 100 special effects. However, we found it extremely difficult and confusing to add effects and audio tracks in this mode, and this may turn off some users.

While you won't win any design awards using VideoWave Movie Creator, the results are more than adequate for home users. If you simply want presentable results in a hurry and don't require any advanced video edits, we would recommend this product.--Rich Ting ... Read more

  • Author your new creation to DVD or CD, or just email selected clips to anyone you'd like to share them with!

4-0 out of 5 stars Depends on your Situation
Let me elaborate. I'm one of the lucky ones (judging by the other reviews here), who hasn't had any technical problems. Installation, usuage, etc...all fine. That being said, if you CAN take that out of the equation, it is the best editing software I've tried thus far.

Windows Moviemaker stinks comparatively (Gee, no DVD support?!?), and Sonic DVD has less options.

My minor complaints involve not being able to add two text streams in one scene (only one per scene - boooo!), and that you cannot have an entire audio file play throughout the scenes (in other words, you have to splice between scenes, the audio file - a major pain!).

However, on the flipside, you can create your own titles, add your music, credits, etc..for a pretty decent job.

I got it for free via rebates, so I really can't complain. So, would I buy it? Absolutely....

2-0 out of 5 stars Warning: Be aware of the severe limitations before you buy
Like some of the other folks here, I have been disappointed in this software. There are a number of reasons for this:

1. There are so many features that seem oversimplified, incomplete, or non-functional. I could never get even basic functions of the storyline editor to work. For example, I wanted to simply get a DVD with different chapters to play continuously, and I couldn't do that. When I would play a movie made with the storyline editor on my DVD player, it would constantly quit in the middle of the DVD and return to the menu. I still have no idea how to perform this basic function.

2. Technical support stinks. I have to pay for support after one month? Who came up with that idea? Way to show your enthusiasm for your product.

3. But the biggest reason is that there is only one DVD write quality setting. You simply can't fit more than 55 minutes worth of movie onto a DVD. Even then, it is discernably lower quality than the HQ setting on a DVD recorder. If you want the quality of satellite or digital cable, you are NOT going to get it with this software. This means that the software is inferior for most applications.

After doing some market searching, it appears that the basic features of this program are typical of this price range, so I can't say that you will find a product that is a lot better. But that doesn't excuse the misleading advertising: "Copy all of your movies to DVD!" Yeah right. If you don't mind your 4-hour event being split up onto 4 different DVD's. The home movie studio market does a TERRIBLE job of educating consumers about this.

I finally broke down and bought a Sony DVD Recorder. It was a lot more money, but I needed it for what I was trying to do, which is to capture broadcasts and create DVD's of my favorite sports teams. If you want to do something like this, then you can't use Video Wave Movie Creator to do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Correction
Responce to David Roberts-
Try getting a better computer that can support such software, such as an Alienware, as opposed to a Dell (which, by the way, exports almost all of it's jobs to india).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Video Editing Software
Works exactly as described. This is a statement which have rarely been able to make with respect to any software I have purchased. I have never written a product review but I am just so pleased with this software that I felt compelled to do so. I bought this product in order to make short videos using my digital camera and Dell desktop. I recently completed an 8 minute project showing students on a variety of field trips. It was great fun to make the video and it came out looking very professional.

It was simple to import the video. The video quality is excellent. The software cut the video into scenes which made it very easy to edit. The editing process was a simple point and click affair. I used three levels of sound (music, voice over and the original audio from the tapes). I was very happy with the music provided in the product. There was a little tweaking needed to get all the levels right but it was very easy to do. I used all sorts of music which really added to the final video. There were plenty of transitions to choose from and they were easily customizable. It was easy to set up the DVD screen and to burn the DVDs.

I have been making videos like this on and off for years. This software allows me to make better videos, in a shorter amount of time, than I was able to make using professional quality equipment ten years ago. It takes time to make a good video but this software gives you all the tools and works exactly as described.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy. Poor.
Received this program as part of a Dell package. Software worked adequately for simple music videos. I also made several "slide shows" using pictures and audio. Unfortunately after a few weeks the program quit working completely. Uninstalling and reinstalling did not help and customer support is non-existant. Don't buy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was replacing my (corruted) MGI photosuite with this product and was gravely disappointed. I couldn't do simple retrievals from clip art discs and found the online help worthless. I threw it away the next day, chalked it up as a cheap mistake, and bought Photo Explosion instead.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after 4 months
I own this product. It's hard to use. There are no instructions. The albums are not albums, they are virtual albums. It is laborious and slow to print from it. The CD became corrupted after 4 months of use and can no longer be loaded on my computer. It does not work with WIndows MIllenium.
The only positive: you can crop photos with ease.

1-0 out of 5 stars Weak product, difficult to use
I have used this product for a year now, and am very disappointed with its performance and ease of use.

I move on to Paintshop pro.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Product
While PhotoSuite 4.0 has some interesting features, it's quirks outweigh any benefits they might offer.

On the plus side: it's guides to enhancing and cropping photos are simple and straightforward -- but then, so are most of the better imaging software.

On the negative side: when you create an album of photos, the pictures remain where they originally were stored on your hard drive. Which makes uploading them to a printing service (say, Ofoto) extremely complicated, difficult and frustrating. Further, because of this approach it is easy to erase a picture unintentionally.

Also of note: to talk to a support technician will cost you...!! So if you do have problems, the cost of getting help is nearly as much as the software itself.

I'm back on Amazon to find decent imaging software. Not only can't I recommend PhotoSuite, but based on the problems I've had with other Roxio products, I can't recommend the company either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Graphics yet Inexpensive!

2-0 out of 5 stars Despite the Hype, FCP 4 is a Step Down for Many Power Users
Unfortunately, several time-saving, creativity-enhancing features that I was accoustomed to in FCP 3 were removed for FCP 4. Functional draft renders, my favorite (albeit flawed) feature from FCP 3 no longer exist. This is quite an area of debate, but experienced editors should see why the new (largely useless) rendering system is far inferior to the previous one. The life-saving Shift-F function is also gone, the new "automatic" capturing system makes file management horribly inconvenient, and the online help file has been replaced with a cumbersome .pdf document. Support for Adobe Photoshop files is still poorly implemented. The bundled LiveType program is also much more awkward to use than one might expect from how it's been marketed. (LiveType is not an integrated extension of FCP, but a completely separate--and SLOW--application.) At this point, I feel I am a less efficient editor for having made this upgrade. Why Apple could not build on what they had instead of dropping helpful features is beyond me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Regardless of what you hear...
I have been editing for 20 years. FCP on a Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 is the best editing solution for the money I have ever seen. It blows away the $75k+ systems that I have used for less than a tenth of the price. FCP at less than $1,000 and a G5 at $$$$$$$ is all you need other than a camera. You can make broadcast quality video with this simple setup. $$$$$$$ for computer and software plus $$$$$$ for a camera that will hold up to a $$$$$$$Betacam... give me a break!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don┬┐t waste your money
Apple is quickly loosing market share to Avid and vegas ,and this is a quickly produced solution. Final cut follows with the standard Apple policy of falling several years behind the competition and then jumping 6 months ahead only to fall behind with no upgrades for years. After spending several weeks using this program I have gone back to Avid

My recommendation is to stay away from final cut and all apple products. For the same price as this you could buy a PC and Vegas 4.0

3-0 out of 5 stars Sorry but it's got more bugs than FCP 3.04
It's true, it has more new features and is a world beater as
far as other editing apps BUT FCP 3.0 is still the biggest
bang for buck simply because it has fewer bugs. While I
believe FCP 4.0 is probably two to three thousand dollars
worth of software combined in one package....it still needs
work. If you are running anything lower than OS X 10.2.5
you will also need to upgrade the OS and Quicktime as well.
My advice is: if you do not own FCP 3.0 then go ahead and
purchase FCP 4.0 because you'll be able to upgrade as soon
as Apple puts out 4.x etc. If you have FCP 3.0 then you might
want to wait until 4.x hits the shelves (assuming it does as
opposed to being a download). As an active editor I am forced
to wait rather than causing a lot of back-ups to safeguard
client's files. Regardless of all this, FCP is still King of Cuts.
For more information cruise the FCP forums and discussion
lists.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST OF THE BEST
Final cut pro 4.0 adds a lot of useful features that the version 3 didnt have. This includes soundtrack (create ur own music for royalty free use) and a new title maker that adds animations to your titles. With this a new compression program to make your movies for DVD and a lot of bug fixes from version 3, why would u want any other editing program. I know $1000 sounds a lot, but if you have the cash, this program is better than anything else, that includes those $15,000+ editing workstations as well. Simply put= THE BEST MONEY CAN BUY ... Amazon.com Review

Digital photo hobbyists finally have a high-quality photo retouching software alternative to Adobe Photoshop. With a user-friendly, streamlined interface, Microsoft Picture It Digital Pro 7 lets you easily apply filters for special effects, utilize sophisticated editing tools, create simple photo albums, and send e-cards of your photos through MSN.

Digital Image Pro 7 provides 3,000 photo projects, 150 filters, and 5,000 images for creating professional photo projects, such as business cards, photo albums, calendars, flyers, and postcards. Filters such as Antique, Black and White, Distort, and Watercolor add instant visual effects to photos. Easily add flash to a photo, remove red-eye, reduce backlighting, and adjust levels to control shadows, midtones, and highlights. Additionally, enhanced Adobe Photoshop plug-in filter support allows users to further enhance their digital photos.

Digital Image Pro 7 leverages existing Office-type user interface elements such as the new file browser, which makes working with your photos much easier without cluttering the screen with excessive navigation elements. The improved user interface makes it easier to capture photos from a digital camera, a picture CD, a scanner, a hard drive, or the Web. You can also precisely edit and save several photos at once using advanced tools like photo batch processing. Our favorite feature of Digital Image Pro 7 is its seamless integration with MSN Photos. You can store and share your photos and order photo reprints, frames, cards, posters, and gifts, all from within Digital Image Pro.

If you need a software package for more sophisticated photo editing, Adobe Photoshop may be the way to go, but for the non-techie photo hobbyist, Digital Image Pro 7 provides powerful base-level features through an extremely simple user interface. --Rich Ting ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Truly Practical Photo Companion
I've been using various bitmap editors since the days of MacPaint, and I've spent the time to learn something about how they work. I played with these programs mostly out of nerdy curiousity since I'm not much of an artist. When I got into digital photography, though, I found the need for some practical bitmap editing--photo touchup. I could use PhotoShop at work, and I bought Paint Shop Pro. I tried many other programs. But I didn't use one frequently enough to remember how to do anything.

I tried Picture It back in 2000, but hated it because of its huge installation footprint and weak feature set. This fall I tried the newest version, Digital Image Pro. What a difference! This product is great. I've already used it a few dozen times for all types of work. It has enough depth to do everything I've needed--and I don't need documentation! It is so activity-oriented that I can figure it out as I go along. (Nevertheless, it comes with a very good manual that is a complete guide to digital photography. It covers a lot of material I already know, but I found it worth reading anyway.)

This is a great program. Even if you didn't like previous versions, you might like this one.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Decent Product, But Not As Good As Adobe Photoshop
For the amateur photographer, Picture It! Digital Image Pro 7 will be a very useful tool. You can adjust resolution, crop and rotate, and add effects to photos quickly and easily. However, for those looking for a more powerful tool for professional-level projects you would be better off picking up a copy of Adobe Photoshop.

For the money, this isn't a bad deal. Just don't expect miracles. Recommended for the casual/amateur user.

3-0 out of 5 stars Picture It! Digital Image Pro 7
Not as good as I had expected this product to be. I am no longer using it. Did not meet my expectations in the digital camera, saving photos/albums, and printing arena for my Dell computer and HP photosmart printer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use
I stepped up from PictureIt! 2001 wand was very pleased with the improved integration of the processes. Making cards, photo albums, business cards is muchmore intuitive. Very good compatibility with my camera, printer, and scanner. Probably not enough tools for pros, but for casual users who want to sit down and get things done it's wonderful!!

2-0 out of 5 stars not for the dogs
this software is a waste of money if you want to edit the white spots from flash pictures of your pet(s). will not do it with red eye correction or paintbrush. i recommend paint shop pro 7 which will take care of the problem and it appears to have all the capability of picture it. plus it is shareware so you can get a 30 day evaluation period and not get stuck with a product that doesn't fill the bill -- like picture it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Shallow Learning Curve & Great Results
I've used Cool 360 for several years now. It's very easy to use, and, once you get the idea of a minimal overlap in each shot, it gives great results. You have to be aware of parallax, so using a tripod is very helpful. However, once the concept is mastered, you will get great wide agnle or 360 degree panoramic photos. For the price, it is the best out there for the purpose. I would like to see it updated to a full-screen mode and menus, but those are minor. Go for it!

5-0 out of 5 stars With a Little Effort, Excellent Results
I wasn't expecting much after a bad experience with Ulead's "Face Factory", but this product works well. As a test, I "organized" my work room (a bedroom with a bunch of computers and music gear) so everything was at about the same height. Then I set my 1 megapixel digital camera on a tripod on a small table in the middle of the room. I took 12 shots, rotating the camera to roughly match the hours on a clock. Then loaded the shots into the program and said "Go" (or whatever). It came out very good, pretty seamless, so that in Quicktime, you can mouse around the screen and feel like you're turning inside the room. Plus you can zoom in and out and raise and lower the view (a little). And, of course, the view is continuous, i.e. there is no "end" - you just keep turning and see the room again. Plus you can add Photoshop type filters to any or all of the shots for some interesting effects.

You do have to be careful about the clock hours views, if you don't align the shots like that you can get a discontinuity.

5-0 out of 5 stars It does what it says
I had this software when it was first released. It worked OK But I lost the CD. It appears that in buying and downloading this latest release, they have cleaned up the code to allow a smoother operation in making 360 degree and extreme wide view splices. Did I say I liked it so much, I bought it twice?

The blending has been very good and so easy that my 8 year old has made 360 degree photos for 2nd grade (while I was at work).

It does what it says and does it very well. What more can you ask?!?

BTW, with the download option, I had it in 10 minutes, instead of waiting for a week to get it in the mail. Good choice for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the money
I was taking pictures of property in my area for a relative to view from a long distance. I found this software when I was investigating those virtual tours that some realtors use to showcase their listings. Ulead had a sample on thier site that was pretty good. I downloaded the free trial version and took a about 15 overlapping pictures with my digital camera to create a 360 view of my backyard. I uploaded the pictures into the program and it did everything for me. Using Ulead's viewer I was able to create a 360 virtual tour of my backyard. You can export it to a file with the viewer and email it, put it on a web page or even make a screen saver. This is a pretty cool piece of software for [the price]. ... Just a hint. Your project will turn out a lot better if you use a tripod to take the overlapping pictures. The software will merge things the best it can but if you have a couple of pictures where the camera was at a slightly different angle it will definitely make some rough spots in your project.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Frustrating
I bought this product wanting to scan my 12X12 scrapbook pages and then "stitch" them together. Forget it! It's hard to line up the pages, as well as the system kept locking up! ... Read more
