4-0 out of 5 stars For Regular People
For those who aren't professional photo editors, let's be honest with each other: how many of us have bought the professional programs that professionals recommend, and then find that the learning curve is so difficult that we don't use them? I have several other photo editing programs: Photoshop Elements 2.0, Paint Shop Pro. I kept buying the next one because the "pros" recommended them. I found that to learn EACH task it took from 1/2 to 1 hour. There is NO simplicity to anything with those programs. They can do awesome things, I just don't have the time to figure out how to do EACH and EVERY ONE. Using MS Digital Image Pro, it is set up so simple, you can just make a few clicks and almost every task can be accomplished. I've imported many photos into the program, modified them easily and quickly, and then placed them into a video which I burned to DVD's for projects at work. I received quite a number of complements from other "non-professionals" on the quality of the changes. I was also able to easily make modifications for pictures of my family which came out very nice.

If you're looking for a professional, extremely extensive program, perhaps you might want to look at the other ones. But if you're like me and want a fun program that also will deal with 90% of common tasks, this will save you a lot of frustration.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for some things, mediocre for others ...
As a user of Photoshop, Photoshop Elements 2.0, Paint Shop Pro, Photo Impact Pro, etc ... ( I have just about all of them), I decided to purchase Digital Image Pro 9 after using a simple version of Microsoft Picture it! that came bundled with a new computer I bought and got very good printing results. This program is very user friendly and while it doesn't have the advanced features of Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro such as layers and such, it has some features that are worth the price of the program alone.

*** The "Smart Erase" tool is fantastic!! It saves a lot of time from using the clone tool and it's amazing how it will erase an object from the picture and fill it in with the surrounding background. I even erased a small tear that was halfway into a doorway and half on the door frame and after circling the tear, it magically removed the tear and reconstructed the half on the doorway, and the half on the door frame seamlessly in one click!
*** Cropping is a breeze! There are presets for sizes (4x6, 5x7, etc..) or you can custom crop. The whole process takes all of about 10 seconds.
*** The printing of photos is very easy and the colors come out very close to the originals without having to calibrate your monitor like they suggest in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. There's absolutely no learning curve in printing from Digital Image Pro 9. Just preview and print!
*** Other very good tools are the "Straighten Photo" tool which couldn't be simpler! You simply click one end of the edge of the photo and stretch the line to the other corner and hit "enter" and bang! Photo straightened! Also, the fix redeye, remove dust, remove scratches, and remove wrinkles tools work better than any of the other programs I use.

*** The clone tool is "horrible"! Unlike the Adobe products, there's no way to "unalign" the clone point when you first start brushing. Which means, If you click a point a half inch to the left of where you want to "clone", that point follows you around wherever you're painting which makes it very diffucult to work with intricate patterns or areas with a lot of specks or dust. With Photoshop or Elements, you can set a point and just keep cloning from that point, which is usually a clean area with no dust or specks, without having it follow you around to points that you haven't cleaned up yet.
*** It won't handle very large files. On a few occasions, I scanned pictures at very high resolution (2400 dpi) and saved them in TIFF format. When I went to open one of those files in this program, it wouldn't open it with a message that read " not enough memory" to open the file. The files did however, open up with no problem in Photoshop Elements.
*** A few of the other tools aren't very good. The "remove spots or blemishes" tool just puts a big blurry "dot" in place of the spot or blemish that you're trying to remove, with a color that is similar but not always the same as the surrounding color. They should've just left this tool out because you can get much better results with the clone brush or the smart erase tool. The "blending" tool is just mediocre as is the "adjust lighting" tool.

Overall, this is now the program I use the most for my basic photo editing needs and printing photos that don't need a lot of work or special effects. It's very quick, intuitive, user friendly, and has everything the average user needs to edit and print great looking photos. If you're a collector of photo editing programs like it am, this is definitely one that is a must have!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great tool for the non-professional
I've got a great digital camera. I enjoy taking pictures of the friends and family. I've got photoshop 7 and I know how to use about 5% of it. I don't have the time to take the class to learn the software. I picked up Digial Pro 9 on a whim and as it turns out, I LOVE IT. It's easy to use and it does everything that matters to me. Now sure it might be nice to convert the picture over to a water color painting with the granite sandstone filter applied and blah blah blah... whatever. I just want my pictures to look better and to have a little more control to remove a few things that I don't want in them. With Digital Pro 9, it's easy and fast. I am sold. I use Pro 9 all the time now, my pictures look great and I'm VERY happy. Don't let people turn you off to this product. I'm not a pro microsoft advocate, but I've got to tell you, this is good software. You'll pick it up quickly and and do more in an hour than you did in 10 hours with photoshop 7 (unless your a professional in which case what are you doing looking at this review, it's for the normal people).

Good luck.

2-0 out of 5 stars Versatile Program - But Too Many Crashes
Microsoft has enhanced Picture It Pro 9 with many uselful features - Batch Editing; Picture Straightening; Cut-Out tools; filters, etc. PI Pro 9 has enough tools to satisfy even the most demanding Prosumer. HOWEVER, the program is very unstable, especially if you do a lot of composites as I do. You can be assured that the program will crash at least once every session while working on "complex" compositions using multiple image files. Many complaints have been registered with MS Customer Service (check out some of the other feedbacks sites) but yet no patches or updates have been issued. If you want "professional" resutls go with PhotoShop.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the average user that wants decent results now
I have been using Adobe Element 2.0 for nearly a year, and Digital Image Pro for only about 3 months, and I must say I can accomplish the same amount of work with Digital Image Pro in a fraction of the time compared to Elements. I actually enjoy using both programs for different tasks, but quite honestly, I find myself gravitating more and more to Digital Image Pro, as I wear "several hats" in my work and due to time pressures, I simply don't have the time to learn the full functionality of Elements, or its sometimes painstakingly unintuitive program design. In contrast, when I use Digital Image Pro, I feel I am "cutting right to the chase" and getting my task work done, without the need for wasting time constantly referring to a manual. This is not to say I plan to give up on Elements; but if you're a novice like myself, you will likely find Digital Image Pro to be more enjoyable and productive program to use. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great if you can get it to work...
I started with Studio DV (v 1.0?), after much tweaking was able to import DV, but not export DV to camcorder. Found out on the excellent Pinnacle support webboard (mostly disgruntled users) that my motherboard wasn't supported.. So after an upgrade I finally was able to get a project output to camcorder. Then I decided I wasn't going to hassle with it until DVD R technology was available.
Got a DVD+R/RW, and decided to purchase Studio 8 despite reading the webboard ... Was able to import and edit right away--very easy interface. Then the trouble, wasn't able to render. Decided to upgrade to Windows XP (from 98SE) and NTFS file system. Reinstalled (with 8.5.2 upgrade patch) and project rendered fine first try. Then burned to disc image--great! Then burned to DVD+R--great! Then tried to watch it--first menu popped up--I was in tears of joy! Then tried to move through the menu---"DISK UNPLAYABLE"... UGH.
There are scads of hints and tips and suggestions from other users on the support webboard to fix this and other issues (now I can't render), but the software is unstable and not ready for general consumer use. I may just use it for editing and output MPEG2/AVI, then find another program for DVD authoring. Bottom line is I've been trying to create a project for 4 months and all I have to show is a coaster and [money spent on] computer upgrades. I'm convinced Pinnacle is a front for the PC industry to drive upgrades...

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of features and easy to use
I had never used video editing software before, and read a lot of reviews, both user and "expert" before settling for Pinnacle Studio Version 8.
Curiously, the 10 digit serial number was printed backwards and it took a while to figure that out. Also it was on the CD sleeve, not on the back of the book where the on screen instructions told me to locate it.
After installing (a breeze) I watched the tutorial video and then made a couple of test movies. One on fresh video footage from my Samsung mini DV camcorder, the other was a compilation of AVI video clips my folks back in Old England have e-mailed to me and I have been saving them on my hard drive.
Both movies were easy to compile and fun to do. I easily added transition effects between scenes and titles, trimmed some scenes and then rendered the whole thing. I found rendering was slow, as many other reviewers have pointed out, but that was my only complaint.
I made one test movie on a CD using MPEG2 which played fine on my DVD player. The other was a compilation of 20 and 30 second AVI movie clips, which was also very easy to put together and played perfectly on my (older) DVD player. Movies can also be made in streaming fashion to display on a web site or in formats suitable for e-mailing. The many formats available is definitley one of its strong points.
This software was pretty easy to use, with nice features allowing a complete amateur like me to impress the hell out of my friends at first try!
I accomplished all of this without any prior experience with video editing software so I give my full approval.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pinnacle 8 RUINED MY LIFE.
First of all. Are you wondering if you should buy Pinnacle (8 or 9, the same thing)? Are you looking for a functional or at least friendly editing software? I can give you the answer!

Pinnacle made me cry, and I'm not joking or exagerating. It made me cry, when I lost my 43-min project when I'd just reached half of it... Also when I was doing the final render, and WITHOUT MY PERMISSION it'd just change the audio tracks, turn one song into another, repeat video files I didn't even include (sometimes I was just wating for it to include video files I hadn't even captured!), it goes wacko, crazy, mad,'s frustrating. Not to mention all those times where I just layed too much of my trust on it, didn't saved every single thing I did and it'd just crash and end itself.

Why oh why, did I EVER thouhgt of buying this? Please listen to me, listen to us all and don't make the same mistake we did. DIE PINNACLE.

1-0 out of 5 stars Would be good if it worked!
The good: Pinnacle Studio is packed with features and is quite easy to use.
The bad: It's JUNK. Full of bugs even with the latest updates. It's slow too. STAY AWAY from this product!
Version 9 is even worse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pinnacle Studio 8 Rocks!
Despite of all the other bad reviews Pinnacle Studio 8 is a fine product. I got the same advise from a DVD Support site. They advised me that Studio 8 can work with their DVD burners but only if I can make the application work. Good luck! I guess i am lucky because with Studio 8 my DVD movies are of superior quality to those other video programs such as Sonic My DVD or Sony MovieShaker. Also, Studio 8 is a more complete application because enables me to edit sound as MP3 files from Real One Player together in my videos. Therefore, Studio 8 offers a more integral interface with a sexy touch for the digital video lover. I am happy with Studio 8! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't forget to factor in manuals to the final price.
I grew up on Adobe products. They used to include great manuals and tutorials. Now I have paid more and received less. I am trying to learn how to use GoLive but the online manual doesn't make a whole lot of sense. How come a printed manual isn't included? Oh, I have to pay more for it? How come I seem to be paying for printing costs then? Customer support? To get real help I'll have to pay for it. I used Adobe Premiere for Mac but that product got abandoned. I will not buy another Adobe product until they either give more or charge less. If you are getting started with web design I would suggest going somewhere else. That being said... Illustrator and Photoshop are both still great products and the upgrades were easy for me to understand (probably because the last versions I had included a printed manual and tutorials). Let's face it, if it wasn't for OS X, I would have just stuck to the older versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and PageMaker and bought Dreamweaver instead. Photoshop CS - Classroom in a Book = $45. Illustrator CS - Classroom in a Book = $31.50. GoLive CS - Classroom in a Book = $45. InDesign - Classroom in a Book = $45. Acrobat Pro - Classroom in a Book = $45. $211.50 in manuals right there. Its a good product but it keeps on costing you in time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent design software
No software is perfect, but Adobe comes as close to well designed, intuitive, user-friendly software as I have ever seen. Photoshop and Illustrator have always been the industry standards, and here they are both improved - particularly the digital photographer will be happy with the new photo filters in Photoshop CS, and the much improved file browser and the new filter gallery are also excellent additions. As far as publishing programs are concerned, InDesign is a greatly more intuitive program than Quark at a fraction of its cost, and because its pallets function much the same as in Photoshop and Illustrator, it is an easily acquired program if you are familiar with Adobe software.

I use these programs on a Mac OS X platform and for me they are very stable. I have had none of the crashing problems or tech support difficulties that another reviewer of the Adobe Creative Suite has had. For anyone using many design programs at once, enough RAM is always a requirement for smooth operation. But if you have enough RAM and a Mac platform, you should have no significant problems at all. PCs crash more by their nature because their operating system is not as stable as a Mac's, but still Adobe products are not only more intuitive than Microsoft's (for example), they also will crash far less on a PC than most other types of software (like Microsoft's).

Photoshop and Illustrator have always defined the state of the art for photo editing and raster graphic software respectively, and here Adobe is carrying on the tradition. InDesign looks as though it is fast replacing Quark in the publishing industry as well, so if you are a creative professional you will be more than happy in the end to own the Adobe Creative Suite. What else would you use?

1-0 out of 5 stars i used to like adobe...
...then i needed to contact their technical support because illustrator crashes when you try to label layers. they go out of their way to make it as difficult as possible. no email support. instead you have to ring an area code 206 number and wait until some overworked undertrained person tells you to reinstall the product or the operating system... very helpful. just like their software.

i'll look elsewhere the next time i look for an illustration package or a graphics editor. and i won't even bother discussing their inept page layout program.

4-0 out of 5 stars glad I got it
I just bought it off of AMazon a week ago (which is the lowest price for the full version I have been able to find so far) and IM glad I did. For new people to the software, you may wanna stay with your older version for a bit and just get used to it before shelling out the money, but if your serious about design and making your workflow work to the max for you, this new collection is a must. Tight integration and the help of the version Cue additional file managment software will help even the messiest designer keep thier files inline. If design is what you want to do, then theres no better package to get. Ive been using Photoshop for years and Illustrator and Indesign for a while now and this is defenitly an inovation in design.
I gave it 4 stars due to small problems I had installing the whole suite at once. I have never had the problem with anything else and it was frustrating. But after that its smooth saling. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Color Me Stupid--But Impressed
After reading what other reviewers said about this product, I couldn't wait to get it. Well, it didn't take long after installation for me to realize what a total idiot I am. There's a whole lot of great effects that are fun to work with, but the basic editing tools seem unbelievably complex to me. It comes with a nice thick manual which is also as clear as mud to me. A good basic glossary would be helpful. I have been humbled, and will return to my simple Picture It and Adobe Photo Deluxe where I can crop a picture and adjust the tint without feeling helpless. I am sure this is a wonderful program, and will probably use it more when I have several free weeks to devote to clicking and dragging.

Several weeks after writing this review, I feel compelled to edit it to note that in response to my initial review, I was personally called by a Nova Development representative to offer technical assistance. I still haven't mastered the program, but am very impressed with this kind of customer service, enough to upgrade by rating by a star.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Great Program
I bought a Canon PowerShot and wasn't thrilled with the software I got free. Very limiting. So I got Photo Impact Pro, and it's just head and shoulders above what I had. I could spend months and still not uncover all the cool features in there ... it's just overwhelming the number of things you can do. But at the same time it's very easy to use. I'm a retired machinist with only 18 months experience even using computers, and it's a cinch for me ... so that says a lot. :-) A friend of mine turned me on to Photo Impact - a guy in our users' group - and he says it's more sophisticated than Photoshop Elements (the other program I was considering). From what I can see, he's right. I use Photo Impact to edit and print the photos I take. And I've added captions and some effects. Haven't made a CD slideshow yet, but I expect to. I hope this review is helpful to you. I don't think you can go wrong with this program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't say enough good things ...
PhotoImpact Pro is simply outstanding software. It's the best thing I've found for organizing and fixing photos. Very powerful stuff. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Heavyweight
You might call me a collector of photo editing software. I seem to buy just about everything that becomes available; this area is kind of a hobby of mine.

I bought a copy of PhotoImpact Pro, having not heard all that much about it, and I was really surprised. I didn't expect the software to be so incredibly full-featured, but it puts even full-blown Photoshop to shame in many areas.

This program is brilliant when it comes to fixing and enhancing digital photos. But it's power-packed in so many ways. It's a veritable candy jar of special effects. I've been using it for two months and find cool new features hiding below the surface just about every time I run it. And it's every bit as phenomenal when it comes to creating original works from scratch as it is for editing existing photographs.

Slender Fungus (proof that all the good names are taken :-) is absolutely correct in the preceding review: You can't go wrong with this software.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT PROGRAM
This is the best graphics program I have ever used, and I have used most of the programs that are available. The interface is easy to use, the effects are outstanding and included content makes this a great product. For print graphic creation, web graphic creation, web page creation and photo manipulation you can't go wrong.

Although I have other graphics programs loaded on my machine, I am now using PhotoImpact Pro every day, exclusively. The other programs are just taking up space on my drive at this point. Don't let the low price fool you, PhotoImpact Pro could easily sell for more than two-hundred dollars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing program, the most powerful I've ever used.
First off, this is a great program, I don't know what I would do without it. It is so easy to trim video to exactly what you want, and the preview window usually renders in real time to show you almost exactly how the finished product will look. VED accepts almost any kind of video file and can render to just about any other format. Unfortunately, the included separate DVD writing software is crap, however, I can render to very nice MPEG 2 video and then use software like Pinnacle Studio (Much better for DVD than editing) to turn the edited video into a great looking DVD in no time. As for the included content, it's really not very impressive, but I use my own music and sound effects collection anyway, and some of the included stock footage is pretty good. I was thrilled that version 1.5 added a third video track as well as chromakeying (AKA Green/Blue screen). Some features I would love to see in future releases include reverse video and audio, rendering to different aspect ratios, and high resolution rendering (maximum now is 800x600). Still, VED is an awesome program and I wouldn't trade it for anything else I've ever used. Good job Nova!

1-0 out of 5 stars Another video editor with A/V sync problem
I was hoping to get a video editor that does not have A/V sync problem that seems to plague all other video editors including Video Deluxe 2.0 and Pinnacle Studio 8.x. Unfortunately, this one has the same A/V sync issue if the video being rendored has lots of motion and scene transition. If the video has lots of transitions, the audio and video will lose sync and many video frames will be dropped (this is during the rendering phase which is NOT done in real time). This makes the software useless for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Navagation proves difficult.
Ok I have this program & have installed it & uninstalled it a number of times on my computer. I love all the cool effects it has, but I have had problems actaully trying ot use them!! I LOVE WMM2 & have found that VERY easy to navigate, but it doesnt have nearly the amt of cool effects as this does! If someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it!
I would love to continue making more BTVS videos, & hopefully get my $$'s worth out of this software!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome video editing software
This software rules! I've wasted money on MGI Videowave, and Ulead Videostudio, but Video Explosion is better than all of these. It's incredibly easy to start making movies. I like the ability to use slow/fast motion in my videos, as lots of my video includes jumping off cliffs, surfing, stuff like that. You can choose what format to create your movies in, so its easy to make a short clip for an email, or a medium-quality movie for a CD-ROM, or a high quality DVD. I use a digital video camera, with a firewire (IEEE) cable to transfer video, and the end movie is just as clear as when I play it on TV directly from the camera. Its true that this software doesn't include a good DVD burning program, but I've been using 'Sonic My DVD', which came free with my Dell computer and it works great. All my family and friends think I should go into professional video production, but they don't understand how easy it really is. I haven't even begun to use all the sounds and short video clips that came with the software. If you're trying to edit home movies from a camcorder, then buy this software, you won't regret it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Make your videos into DVDs....NOT!
If you are looking for a video editing software that is both powerful and easy to learn look no further. I have used Videowave, Pinnacle, and Showbiz all of which have their inherent problems mostly associated with causing my 2.8 gig AMD processor running MS XP Pro to crash repeatedly.

On the other hand if you desire to make DVD disks of your production avoid this program like week old sushi. The included obsolete version of MyDVD can't read the native Video Explosion files requiring an additional rendering and resultant resolution loss, that is when it even works. This is a monumental mistake for Nova Development the makers of Video Explosion. I predict this omission will soon prove fatal to an otherwise superior product.

Nova Development are you listening? Provide us with the ability easily to burn a DVD directly from the editing screen without resorting to the obsolete unworkable second party add on. Until this "oversight" is rectified I am recommending Pinnacle Studio. My quest for a workable video editing program will continue,... stay tuned. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing at best
Pros: Easy, attractive interface. Good integration.
Cons: Too easy to modify original photo. Too underpowered. Keyword handling has poor functionality. Resizing difficult. Red eye reduction poor.

Now for the details:
This product seriously underperforms compared to Adobe's products. The Adobe Album and Elements combination is MUCH more powerful. Digital Image Suite (DIS) doesn't even create web photo galleries. The keyword function is crazy... it's all one level, so once you add any number of keywords, you have to scroll through long lists (Album has multi-level keyword handling, but only to three levels). With Album, you double-click to edit simple things, such as red-eye reduction and cropping, or right-click for more complicated tasks. With DIS, any editing requires opening Digital Image Pro, which can be a resource drain for the average computer. Additionally, you have to make a copy of a photo to edit a copy... Adobe creates a copy automatically, which prevents you from accidentally editing your original photo. And the red-eye wizard in Album is better... eyes look more natural (note: neither program gets rid of pet "red-eyes", since they're not really red).

And something that I can't believe they did: you can't resize the image by pixels. So if I want to resize my 2492x1924 image to 640x480 image to email, I have to guess what printed size that would be at a certain resolution. With Adobe Photoelements, you can specify size in pixels or inches.. MUCH more useful.

I got this software since I thought Microsoft would put out a competitive product, but I was very disappointed. This product doesn't have a single feature that is better than Adobe Album/Photoshop elements, and most features aren't as good, if they are available at all. I wish I could return it...

2-0 out of 5 stars CPU killer
cool features such as organizing pictures using keywords.
Satisfies average user.

CPU consuming!!!!
I am using a P4 2.4Ghz 512MB PC. Everytime i open the "Digital Image Library", the CPU usage immediately goes to 100% continuously and the pictures start flashing! When i use this amazon window the cover the library window, the CPU usage drops down immediately. It looks like the library is constantly refreshing the pictures. I am sure there is sofware defects with this product because displaying the pictures shouldn't be that CPU consuming.

I decided not to use it to organize my pictures anymore because it's to uncomfortable to use a software that will monopolize the CPU.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Good buy
It's def. worth the money. Would reccomend to any future buyer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Basic features are missing!
I had trouble immediately upon using Microsoft's D.I.S. 9
You decide if these will bother you:
1) No lossless .jpg rotate. This means you can't straighten out photos you took while holding the camera sideways without recompressing the image and consequently throwing away image data in the process. I find this deeply disturbing, since every other image manager I've used has this feature, even freeware apps.
2) No auto-rotate. This means that you can't just use the information your camera puts in the .jpg file to have the software automatically re-oritent pictures taken while the camera was sideways. Ever upload 50 or 100 pictures at once to your computer? If so, you probably won't appreciate having to rotate them one at a time to the proper orientation.
3) No thumbnail update. This one takes the cake. If you alter a picture in another image program (perhaps to avoid the two problems above!) then the thumbnail shown will NOT be updated. I called MS about this and the best they told me was to delete the .POD database file. If you have 1000's of pics like I do, you won't appreciate the time wasted to rebuild this large database.

So in summary, I'm pretty much living with the image manager I had before I bought D.I.S. 9. Good luck in your decision.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Beginners Point of View....
This review is strictly for people like me...beginners in the field of digital photography...who love digital photography so much, you want more and more stuff associated with it! But do you need this much photo software?

If you're like me, you already of course have photo software on your computer...I already had the MY PICTURES XP software, the Dell photo software, the ArcSoft photo software that came with my Canon scanner, the HP photo software that came with my HP printer, the PictureIt! photo software that came with MSN 9 internet service, and the Kodak EasyShare software that came with my camera. Oh, and just today I got the Ofoto photo software that came with my first Ofoto archive CD, which contains my film photos.

So, what in the world did I buy this for? Well, I got it half price, and I guess I was thinking the Digital Image would become the Almighty photo software, which would allow me to discard all the others. Wrong! It has not worked out that way.

This software has a great library, but so does the PictureIt! that comes with MSN 9. It's actually like the same Microsoft library. The Kodak software also has a great album library...only many time the photos are there only in thumbnail, and the files are in some other software which time I must go find the photo file, right click, and open it with the Kodak software to get it back there.

But why would I want it back there, you ask...well, as it turns out, the Kodak software is the only one that flawlessly controls my Iomega external CD burner. The Kodak software also seems to make better prints, than when I use the HP software, which is what I must use with the Digital Image. Moreover, the Kodak software is simply easier and less time consuming.

Of course, the Digital Image has tons more editing features and such. So, what you need to ask yourself, if you are a beginner like me, is do you have the time and interest in exploring massive photo software? If you do, this is an excellent program to get. If you do not, you may want to save your money, and just use one of the easier, less costly softwares...such as one you already have.

This does come with a huge manual, which I was so pleased about, since I am an avid reader of manuals. Yet, I'm afraid the manual is not that detailed! It's odd--it even devotes lots of pages to a photographer who discusses her adventures with digital photography. Gee, if I wanted to read such stories, I would have gotten a photography book! This was suppose to be a detailed manual, but in my opinion, it fell short. Also, all the "auto-fix" editing devices have fallen short--the Kodak software does just as well in fixing photos.

I intend to come back and edit this in the future, if I discover I can't live without this Digital Iamge software. But right now, I could. Easily. I just don't have the time to explore it all right now, or to troubleshoot the problems it has with the Iomega burner. In just a few minutes, I can burn hundreds of photos on a CD-R with the Kodak software. When I use this software to burn CD-Rs, it's one bizarre problem after another. I'd just rather spend my photography time taking pictures...not editing them...or troubleshooting software or hardware problems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Amazing!!
This is a really great product. It is easy to use and I have had little trouble with it malfunctioning. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a simple program that offers a wide variety of creative tools.

2-0 out of 5 stars software crashes during printing
Adobe's Business edition crashes easily when trying to print to my 24" wide HP designjet plotter. It could be file size or something else, but I'm no teckkie, so I don't really know. Adobe offers no help.

Other than that, HP's bundled software (PhotoPrinting) is much easier to use but it doesn't support the large format.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too buggy!!!!! My expectations were too high!!!
I bought this software program because I thought it would be good to use to make fliers, brochures, and stuff for the real estate business. I was impressed with the review and the product information. But when I recieved the software and tried to use it, i couldn't get the projects to work. I was only able to view the different pictures that were on my computer.

I think that I am going to try PrintShop Deluxe instead. I heard and read that that Adobe PhotoShop is the big daddy to this -- Adobe PhotoDeluxe, but I can't afford that right now. I think that the Adobe PhotoDeluxe BE 1.0 needs some improvement. But I do love Adobe products.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, Fast, Intuitive, and the Results are Top Notch.
First let me correct a comment made about Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition 1.0: It works just fine with JPEG (.JPG) images in fact I use it to import other graphic format files and then save them as .jpg files. PhotoDeluxe Business Edition does everything that 90 percent of folks need to do. Plus they can do it easily because, unlike so many other graphic programs, PhotoDeluxe is completely user friendly and easy to use. Every task from touching up old photos to making photo collages have guides to take you from step one to the finish. This is the program I always use for scanner output and it has camera and photo processing support as well. This program has templates to make your photos work with cards, calendars, business cards, and much neat and fun stuff but the real news is how easy it is to use PhotoDeluxe in every basic aspect of manipulating images. By using guides and filters to do things like "warp" or "sharpen" or edit with paint tools, you are firmly in control of your task. There are too many tools to list them all here. I use this program without templates because it is my primary image editor. Once I have a finished product in PhotoDeluxe(with or without text added) I am ready to share my graphic output with others as email attachments or web graphics. If you make your living as a graphic designer please do use other very expensive tools. But if you are a recreational home user or a serious soho user, this is the only program you need and forget all those other graphics programs that are so complex they are of no use. You buy this, you will use. My credentials? I have a BFA (a fine arts degree) and have been doing computer graphics since 1983.

4-0 out of 5 stars Full featured, good value
With a minimum use of the help menu, I have been importing photos from my scanner and my digital camera. Have used scaling, sizing, and various saving/exporting features. Have had NO problem saving as JPEG, am unsure what one reviewer was talking about! I really liked reducing the photos and saving them as JPEG's to use on my web page, and to send friends and family. The Adobe family works seamlessly with all my other software and devices. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars PSP Power Suite
This is a great product! My only complaint is that the Photo Album version is not the most current. I downloaded a trial version which was V.5 but with my software got v. 4... There are some major differences between the two (with v.5 being better). I am disappointed that I now am going to have to spend another $50.00 to get the upgrade!

4-0 out of 5 stars Problems Installing, but a great program!
The 60 day Trial version of Paint Shop Pro 8 came with my new Dell. I LOVED the program. The Paint Shope Power Suite, with the (...) rebate is a great deal! The program takes a bit to get used to since there are so many things you can do. We are having fun just checking out how creative we can get. Not to mention how well it can enhance photos with little effort on my part. I am not a real avid photographer, so I cannot comment on the real technical aspects of the program.

The suite comes with Photo Alubum 4 and that is a great program for organizing your photos. It is also very easy to use. The extras - Creative edition 1 & 2 add lots of additional frames, tubes etc to your options in being creative. It also comes with a useful book on Digital photography. I found the book interesting and informative, yet easy to read and understand. The manuals are also relatively easy to understand, although I have not used them extensively at this point.

Now for the installation...not easy at all! I continued to get error message 1311 that said that the installation program could not find d:/PSP/ Since it was after 5 CST(I work until 5 CST!), I was unable to get a hold of Tech (which, by the way is NOT a toll free call!) so checked out the JASC website of FAQ's and did not find this error there. My last resort was to e-mail tech. I reseived a response 3 days later telling me I could try to used a different CD drive, if I had one (Which I did, but had already tried that!). If that didn't work I could copy the files to my desk top and try a desktoip install (actually, I had that figured out by the time I got the e-mail from them.) Their instructions were very complete on how to copy from the CD to the desktop and to do the install. This worked...but since it seemed that this was not an uncommon issue, It should have been on the FAQ site. Not much is worse than not even being able to install a leaves you wondering what else will go wrong!

All in All a great program, but lacking in support (at least for installation) and ease of the install.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love PSP!!!!
I own Paint shop 7 and love it. I takes a little effort to learn to use it well but once you know what you can do with this software and learn how to get about to do it, the results are incredible. I downloaded the trial version for both PSP 8 and PSP photo album 4 and absolutely love them both. One thing I like of PSP 8 over PSP 7 is that all the windows that you open to enhance the photo that show the before and after can be displayed on full screen, so you can look closely at what are you doing. PSP photo album is a great photo organizer and you can use it to burn photos directly to CD, or sent them by email. Amazon has a great price also, you also get Paint shop xtras with tons of pictures tubes, frames, masks, etc., to embellish your picures. And all programs are full versions!!! This ia a great bargain, if you buy them separately it would cost you more.
You have to give this software a try.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great photo editor!!!
When I was told that this product was a great product for editing photos, I was a little leary. After all, I had been using Microsoft Picture-It 98 for quite a while (and was loaded on 3 different computers). I had recently bought an updated Picture-It and absolutely hated it. I had to find something else. After all, I have stacks and stacks of family photos, some dating back before 1900--and I wanted to be able to digitalize them, fix them if needed, and be able to put them on CD to save them for future generations of the family. Genealogy--who knew??!!! I took a genealogy class online, and one of the classmates had talked me into trying this product. Well, once I got the hang of it, all I can say is that it's GREAT!!! It has done wonders to the stacks of deteriorating family photos! Sometimes, I can't believe my eyes--they're so good! I say "well done, Jasc, for a product that is really unbelievably good!" ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Superior to my expectation
I bought this new version because I love the photo show made by the version 2.03, hoping there is a great enhancement in the new version. The product lives up to my expectation - show styles in the new version have improved a lot! Though not all styles favor my taste, it is my choice, and there are plenty of styles to choose from. Moreover, the Picture Pro edition let me change themes easily, for example, I can paint my own book covers and design pages for the 3D flipping book, and change the room and table settings.

One new feature I like particularly is the "My Albums" list. Now, I can keep a track of my built albums (I've built a lot!) and make any change of any album whenever I want to. I don't understand why there is a need to save, as one reviewer wrote. The album I built is the copy that saved from the preview. I can make the change of the copy using the same GUI controls I use during preview. There is no need to dig into the album files. Perhaps the reviewer is commenting on the version 2.03, which cannot be applied to this version.

I am an amateur photographer, and occasionally use Jasc Paint Shop to do some preliminary photo editing works. I didn't expect that 3D-Album Picture Pro come with a great photo editor, and did not even give it a try until the last weekend when I decide to create my own book cover. Holly cow, I can't believe that an album software come with such a powerful photo editor that is even better than my dedicated editing software. Jasc's tube brush is always my favorite but making my own tube is rather difficult. In Picture Pro, I simply create an image group and then drag and drop image into the group. I am very impressed by the Picture Pro's 3D layer styles and vector illustration tools.

I clicked the book cover image in the Photo Show page, choose the edit menu, and the software brings the book cover directly into the editor where I can put my own design. I can switch back and forth between the Photo Show page and the edit page until I get a happy result.

I bought the version 2.03 about one and half years ago. I remember there was a problem with my old HP laptop (not with my desktop) with S3 video card. The software will crash after running about 5 minutes. The support told me that the crash is due to the bug in the S3 video driver and upgrading the driver will solve this problem. But S3 video card was quite old and the support from HP was discontinued. I eventually got my new Dell Inspiron with GeForce FX. Both the old and new version now run smoothly without any problem. So, before buying the software, you should have a check of your computer. A decent 3D video card such as nVidia's GeForce or ATI's Radoen is the key, no matter how fast your CPU or how much memory your have.

2-0 out of 5 stars It could be MUCH better
Some people really love this program, but I don't get it. What bugs me the most is that it doesn't use the standard windows buttons and layouts. I must be really dumb, but I can't figure out how to save my slideshow because there is no save option! So if you want to create an album and make a few changes and save it as something else (so you can compare the two), as far as I know, you can't. After checking the help groups and reading tips, I sort of found out how to do it, but it was so complicated. I had to go into the file I originally saved and make changes there, not in 3D Album itself. How convoluted!

But I could put up with that if the albums themselves worked. I tried two different albums, both had the same problems. They would freeze after flipping through a few pages. The album would end, the book would close and yet my pictures were still flipping in mid air. The shortcut created on the desktop would open the album but noting else, it would crash everytime.

If you want a really good photo editor and a good slideshow (it won't have 3D backgrounds, maybe if you create them) try Ulead's PhotoImpact XL. For the price you get 1000 times more product and it works 100%

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing collection of tools and a huge upgrade
I have the old version 2.03 and upgraded to the new version about 10 days ago. The new version is a huge upgrade. I was surprised to find that the new package contains almost all tools for my photo needs. It is no longer a picture show only software. Its photo organizer, printing, and editing features are as powerful as those professional tools. But what set this software apart to other products is still its 3d picture show tool. For these who want create movie-style picture shows, this is a must-have. Lots of new 3d styles and new controls are added in the new version. More selections. The DVD movie capture is integrated in the program. ... Read more
