1-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with Photoshop CS/Painter 8 on Panther (OS X)
Based on reviews I purchased this product just to find out from Corel that it is not compatible with Photoshop CS and Corel's own Painter 8 under OS X 10.3 (Panther). They don't even have an estimate if and when they will fix the problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Knockout 2.0 is highly to recommend!
This Photoshop plug-in is very useful, it makes selecting any kind of object a piece of cake. Improves workflow, saves time!

Amazon.com Review

The 10th edition of anything is certainly a milestone, and in thesoftware industry, version 10 is seen about as often as a UFO. CorelDRAW 10marks Corel's foray into the world of software legends. Corel has taken thismilestone with grand aplomb, packaging a stellar collection of graphicsutilities that will stand the test of time, of course until CorelDRAW 20 isreleased.

The package consists of two old hats, CorelDRAW and Corel Photo-Paint, updatedwith new features and a unified interface. Included as well is Corel R.A.V.E, avector-based animation suite that can create streaming Flash animations forinteractive, high-impact Web content. Throw it all together with more fonts, photos, and clip-art than you can shake a digital stick at (over 30,000), andyou've got an unbeatable graphics powerhouse that will help you tackle any printor online need.

All three applications in the CorelDRAW 10 suite now share the same interfaceelements, including toolbars, option palettes, and filters. Tools you use inCorelDRAW are likely to be the same as tools you use in Photo-Paint or R.A.V.E.Techniques you hone in one environment can be instantly applied to another, making it much easier to perform a wider variety of tasks.

CorelDRAW 10 offers unparalleled control over previously daunting tools. Evencomplex tasks such as extruding a two-dimensional object into three dimensions,or applying mesh-based and multiple-step gradient fills have been streamlined asinteractive tools. With R.A.V.E., Corel not only provides a powerfulvector-based animation program, but one with a customizable interface and componentmechanism that allows the importing and exporting of many formats, including thepopular Macromedia Flash movie format. Photo-Paint allows spectacular controlover almost any aspect of photo manipulation. In addition to hundreds oftemplates for family photos, greeting cards, Web pages, and slide shows,Photo-Paint offers friendly and succinct controls for advanced photo-editing toolssuch as dust and scratch removal, hue and tint corrections, red-eye reduction, and many incredible high-quality special effects.

Altogether, this suite of applications allows the user to harness the combinedpower of three stellar programs to create interactive or static art, Web pages, slide shows, printed brochures, photo albums, greeting cards, and much more. TheCorelDRAW 10 suite delivers a virtually unbeatable one-two punch of power andusability, further justifying the dozens of awards that Corel has won over themany years they have spent making spectacular software. --VictorAndersen--This review is for CorelDraw 10.0 ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I'd like to be able to use CorelDRAW 10
As a happy user of CorelDRAW essentials (CorelDRAW 9) for a few months, I purchased a CorelDRAW 10 upgrade from my local store. It states very clearly on the box "Upgrade from any version of CorelDRAW", but it wouldn't. I called their technical support (an automated trial in itself) and found out to my surprise, that essentials is not eligible for the upgrade. I have asked them for where I missed the public statements on upgrade eligibility, but after five communications on the matter they have stopped talking to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Tool Gets better
I started with Corel Draw 5 then lived through the hell that was Corel Draw 6 and then worked with 7 for quite a while. Then I upgraded to 9 and for christmas got the upgrade to 10.

In that time, 5,6,7,9,10, I have to say that the interface improved and the tools got more consistent. Strangely TurboCAD is like an adopted sibling to the Corel series at it shares the same inteface.

I recommend Corel Draw without question. It produces great images and can be used to construct artwork quickly and accurately. Using the short cuts speeds things tremendously of course and Corel keeps them consistent as well.

On the down side the flagging fortunes of Corel corp have meant that less and less clip art and pre-packaged art comes with the package. That's not a problem if you've got a couple of previous versions but can be an issue if you don't want to spring the extra bucks for the Corel clip art disk.

I miss Dream3D, but I like the dynamic transparency and blend tools. Integration with tablets is pretty good too and thats a plus for any draw package.

I don't think anyone will be disappointed with these tools (Paint and Draw) as their art foundation.

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Disappointing
I tried to like this product but the shortcomings are just too severe. The text handling is a nightmare, the re-draw rate is agonizingly slow and it can't do anything that Adobe Illustrator can't. Furthermore, print service bureaus bristle at the prospect of dealing with DRAW files. CorelDRAW 10 is just not worth the learning curve--or the price. Get Adobe, it's what real designers use.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Upgrade
As a long time user of CorelDraw software, I have always found CorelDraw and Photo-Paint to be buggy. Fortunately, the depth and breadth of features usually helps to assuage the drawbacks. I recently upgraded from version 8 to version 10 and true to form, had mixed results. Overall, the package seemed to be a little less quirky than previous versions. The Corel interface IS more consistently applied across all applications. Web support and integration IS much better but not nearly as thorough as Macromedia Fireworks and Flash. And there IS more application compatibility and file type support. Nothing in CorelDraw 10 or Photo-Paint 10 are "must haves" (at least not for me) in comparison to version 8.

Corel R.A.V.E. 1.0, the new application in the CorelDraw suite is a very promising animation package but exceptionally buggy and feature poor - even for a new product (see the Corel R.A.V.E. newsgroup at corel.com to get a flavor for the issues). R.A.V.E. generates Flash movies (SWF files) but doesn't stack up to Flash for features, completeness or compactness of rendered files. Of course, to use all of the Flash features, you have to pay a premium price and live through a very steep learning curve. R.A.V.E.'s drastically simpler user interface and added support for SVG file formats (the W3C proposed standard for vector graphics) are good omens for the future - provided SVG can make inroads into Macromedia's dominance of animated vector graphics for the web. Corel is on the right track with R.A.V.E. but it just doesn't measure up to the competition - at least not yet.

The bottom line? CorelDraw 10 and Photo-Paint 10 are topnotch drawing and photo editing software applications that together represent a very good value. If Corel R.A.V.E. was market ready (and it's not), the combination would have been an unbelievable value.

2-0 out of 5 stars Corel DRAW 10 doesn't an upgrade...it's a downgrade.
Corel Corp strikes out with it's latest DRAW release (10.0). It's harder-to-use-than-v.9 features, limited global customization, and lack of support for Illustrator 8 docs, make this version a downgrade instead of an upgrade. I am a lifelong CorelDRAW supporter who couldn't wait to see v10, but I was quite disappointed by the bad decisions Corel made. Granted, this product still blows away any Adobe product, but if you have DRAW 9, do not bother with 10. ... Read more

I have been using Illuminatus since version 2.0 and grown to like it very much. While there are gigantic products like Macromedia Attain and Asymetrix Tool Book. 3-0 out of 5 stars Was not that impressed
When I read the reviews and viewed the feature-list of Freehand MX, I was hesitant to upgrade from 10.0.1 to MX. However since I lauded the 10.x interface, and the new product shared the interface of the MX family, I did the upgrade. I know this is a touchy subject for some as they either love the new MX interface or they hate it. Some new features like contour gradients, 3D extrusions, live effects were a good bonus. Basically doing anything in Freehand MX took much less time than previous versions or competing products. My main problem was exporting these images. PNG export was terrible, creating artifacts over the image where I used live effects. I tried importing into Fireworks MX and Flash MX, but the results were unimpressive. It took me a while to figure out that this upgrade added two executables in the Freehand MX folder to upgrade Fireworks MX and Flash MX for handle Freehand MX files. The problem with that, is that a complex image created in Freehand using the new live effects or contour fills is not converted into blends for proper rendering by Fireworks, rather contours are replaced by radials, and the whole colour scale of the gradients seem shifted. If they tell you there is full compatibility among with Macromedia Studio MX product family now, they've lied to you. Macromedia's Freehand MX message board is a good place to read about the new features and bugs in MX to figure out if this upgrade is right for you. If your image lives and dies within MX, and you don't need to export it to another application, it's wonderful -- and for 99.99% of us that is not the case. Don't throw away your old CDs yet. Freehand is improving, but it is far from perfect. Try again Macromedia!

UPDATE (13/09/03), Macromedia has listened to the cries of their customers and released a free updater of Freehand MX, now (11.0.1), aka Freehand MX2004. This updater solves MANY of the problems originally identified with Freehand MX. It should be noted that support for MacOS9 and Windows NT and Me have been dropped from this updated version. The trial version available online is still the buggy original MX version, and the boxed versions will include the buggy version for unsuspecting NT, Me and OS9 users who want to use Freehand MX. The update will be available online for registered customers and as a part of Studio MX 2004. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Adobe Design Collection 6.0 represents a fantastic value for the moneyby bringing together award-winning, next-generation design and publishingapplications for design professionals. This collection includes InDesign,Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.

Adobe Illustrator has traditionally been reserved for the print and prepressmarketplace, but recent versions have targeted a broader audience, including agrowing contingent of new-school Web designers. With the latest incarnation ofIllustrator, Adobe aims to please both print and prepress designers, as well ascutting-edge Web designer communities. Illustrator manages to enhance itsexisting drawing tools with powerful productivity aids. And by focusing onimportant workflow, productivity, and database-connectivity features, Adobe hasgiven the user more time to explore new creative possibilities.

With Photoshop, Adobe continues to come up with an awe-inspiring mix of greatnew features, productivity enhancements, and tweaks and treats. Version 7 is noexception. One of Photoshop's many strengths is the versatility of its tools, and this has been stretched to new limits. Filter previews are bigger, theliquify tool has been enhanced, brush parameters have been extended, andcommonly used tool settings can be saved as presets. Photoshop continues to addmore features for the Web developer as well as the professional designer. Forexample, the creation of rollovers is simpler, and a new "selected" rolloverstate takes some of the repetitive strain out of nav bar production. All in all, this is an upgrade guaranteed to keep Photoshop at the cutting edge ofprofessional image editing.

InDesign is all about creative page layout. A high-end desktop publishingproduct, it is aimed squarely at professional designers who need maximumflexibility alongside strong document management and support for industrystandards. Eye-catching features such as transparency and blending are combinedwith more mundane, but important, abilities such as table-of-contents creationand index generation, to make this a more complete and rounded product thanearlier versions. Creativity in print has never been easier.

Acrobat is PDF-creation software from the people who first established the PDFstandard. PDF (Portable Document Format) remains the best way to make documentsthat can be read by anyone on any platform. Installation is easy and features afunction button that you can added to Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. When you have written a document in these programs, simply clickthe PDF button on the toolbar and it will guide you through saving it as a PDF.Anyone with Acrobat Reader, which is free and available for download fromAdobe's Web site, can view the documents. These documents can also be uploadedto Internet sites or onto networks.
