Amazon.com Product Review

With the 2006 version of AutoCAD LT, Autodesk offers a more flexible and intuitive application designed to make professionals more productive than ever. Key features like more flexible hatching, improved dimensioning, and user-friendly text editing make AutoCAD LT 2006 a worthy upgrade from previous versions. Autodesk has also improved the user interface, enhanced the editing toolkit, and more--again, with the goal of increasing productivity for 2D drafting and detailing.

Dimension with greater ease: New arc length and large radius dimensioning.

Reduce waiting time: Plot jobs and spend more time drafting with background plotting, which allows you to continue working in the drawing editor while AutoCAD LT plots in the background.

Mark up: Easily coordinate projects throughout design review with the markup and redlining functionality of AutoCAD and Autodesk DWF Composer.

View DWF files: The free downloadable Autodesk DWF Viewer enables you to view DWF files that preserve design intent without requiring the original design application.

AutoCAD LT is aimed at design professionals in all industries who require full DWG file format compatibility but do not require 3D capabilities or advanced customization of their software.

Enhanced User Interface
New drafting features in AutoCAD LT 2006 make it easier than ever to get fast results. A new pointer input enables you to launch commands, read prompts and enter values right at the graphics cursor. This keeps your attention focused on your design, rather than on the command line. Meanwhile, the dimension input shows dimension values, such as length and angle, on the object being created or edited. New values can be entered and changed dynamically in the graphics window, which makes interacting with your design dynamic and allows you to explore alternatives "on the fly." There's also a new "Quick Calculator" that makes it easy to perform calculations, units conversion, and derive values from drawing entities all from within AutoCAD LT. This gives you the power of the CAL command without the complex command syntax required in previous versions.

Another user interface improvement, rollover highlighting, helps you avoid time spent selecting wrong objects in a drawing by dynamically highlighting objects in your drawing as you roll over them with the graphics cursor. The new interface also allows for easy customization of menus and toolbars, and automates migration of custom toolbars and menus for future releases. What's more, you can easily customize tool palettes for storing frequently used blocks and hatches. This feature is great for draging and dropping content directly into your drawing. It also makes it easy to quickly find and insert frequently used content, hatches, and solid fills. You can now pre-assign tool properties, as well, such as layer, color, and scale. Properties are automatically applied as you insert content into your drawings.

Text and table handling is dramatically improved in AutoCAD LT 2006, with a focus on intuitive WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interaction. Insert standard WYSIWYG tables with in-place editing and intuitive keyboard functionality, similar to that of Microsoft Word. In addition to standard grip editing, table editing options are available through the context-sensitive menu, and the properties window. Meanwhile, text is created and edited so it will appear exactly as it does in the drawing. Easily view, size, position, and edit text relative to nearby geometry, while adjusting text properties such as style and font as needed using familiar tools common in other text-editing applications.

Better Dimensioning
Drafting just got a lot easier with AutoCAD LT 2006's new dimensioning tools. First, variable dimension line types allow you to select different dimension and extension line types by using the dimension style or properties dialogs. This lets you to give your dimensions exactly the line type you prefer without spending the time to explode and edit them. Next, new arc-length functionality avoids current time-consuming work-arounds by directly dimensioning the length of an arc. You can also dimension large radii curves quickly and easily. This function creates a jogged radial dimension line to indicate the radius of an arc or a circle that is too large to fit on the drawing. Finally, moving dimension arrows manually is a thing of the past, as new flipping dimension arrows allow you to flip an individual dimension arrow from inside to outside of the dimension line and back.

Simplified Plotting
AutoCAD LT 2006's enhanced plot user interface conveniently places all page setup controls in one location, with the most commonly used controls on the left side. The preview option provides a full preview of how the current plot settings will be applied when you plot the drawing. You can also now enjoy the benefits of background plotting. Whether you publish your designs to DWF files or plot to paper, you can continue working in the drawing editor while AutoCAD LT plots in the background. You'll receive an unobtrusive notification when a plot job is completed, and you can follow the link to view the plot and publish details in the plot and publish details dialog box.

Easy Sharing with DWF
Getting your DWF files out to clients and colleagues is easier than ever with AutoCAD LT 2006. Publish intelligent design data with Autodesk DWF (Design Web Format) file format, and save time by simplifying collaboration with your design team. Because it can create files that can be one-tenth the size of files created in other formats, the DWF format is the fastest, easiest way to communicate design information while ensuring secure and efficient sharing at any stage of the project lifecycle.

Mark up designs and easily coordinate projects during the design review phase by replacing the paper process with Autodesk DWF Composer. Use DWF Composer to mark up drawings with comments, sketches, dimensions, text, and stamps before sending them on their way. You can also view DWF files with the free Autodesk DWF Viewer, which presents intelligent data preserved with accuracy, including drawing scale, coordinates, assorted views, hyperlinks, and more. Print to scale, fit to page, tile, or selectively print a variety of sheets from a DWF sheet set.

4-0 out of 5 stars Activation is a pain, but . . .
I too was up in arms about the introduction of activation and had decided not to purchase the product as I have two PCs in my home and I never know for sure when I will get kicked off one or the other by my kids. However, I decided to buy the product when I discovered that you can install and activate two copies. Here's the reference from Adobe's web site:

Q: Can I activate Photoshop CS software on more than one computer?

A: The activation process supports installation on two machines. Adobe's Product License Agreement allows a user to install the product on a primary and a secondary computer as long as the product is not being used concurrently on the two machines. While the activation process supports installing and activation Photoshop CS on two machines, the usage of the product on the secondary computer is restricted to the main user who licensed the software. Allowing others to use Adobe software on a secondary computer violates the Product License Agreement.

I think some folks who posted here are assuming you can only activate once based their comments.

As for the software, I continue to be amazed at its features. I'm using it mainly to restore old family photos. I've been using the Photoshop 7 Classroom in a Book as I'm a newbie to Photoshop so I can't speak specifically to new features added in CS (hence the 4-star rating).

4-0 out of 5 stars Activation is becoming a standard for major software
For the big companies you can expect activation to be part of the package. Microsoft, Adobe, Macromedia all do it now. They have a lot to lose and if this is one way to get more folks to pay instead of passing one paid for disk around, well, it works.

As for the product, I have loaded the 30 day trial and in about 15 days will purchase the upgrade. I like what I have played with so far and the filters are nice. I made some posterized pics out of a bad photo to check it out and was truly amazed.

Don't let activation be the stopping point. If you need the program, get it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Plug-Ins Incompatibility: the deal breaker
I am a professional photographer, and, though I came to this page planning on buying PS-8/CS I just bought PS-7 instead ( I am currently using PS-6.5).

Having used PS since V2 I have found that getting every other upgrade has been the most satisfactory way to go. Until V4 the real strength and utility of PS was in its ability to make excellent color separations (for ultimate printing on a press). It has never been a state of the art image editor, and until V4, was not even a decent one.

PS-6 was the first version I was happy with both for editing, and for pre-press. PS-7 did not add much, so was going to skip it for PS-8.

Instead of PS-8 we get PS-CS which has valuable new tools in it (I wanted it for the "patch tool" alone!), but which has more problems than new features.

As do many of the other commenters, I do not like software activation. Computers are fragile, MS-Windows even more so - but, unfortunately - the only new, fast, and affordable programs are written for Windows. So, if you are counting on a Windows system, you better have a backup system (or two). I have four computers that I am actively using at the moment (3 desktops and a portable) - but, as I only use one at a time, I certainly do not feel that I am violating any of my software licenses by having a program installed on all four (though, with PS, I actually have different versions installed on each of the computers).

I also do not like WinXP (It was recently installed at my office). Of my personal computers one runs W2K, two W98, and one Linux/Lindows. Software written for any WinVer except for XP will run on Lindows (albeit more slowly) and it is ever so much more stable - Though W2K/NT3("5") - is actually quite good. My feeling is that is one of the main reasons the new versions of Adobe products are written to XP (yes, I do think there is a close relationship between Adobe & MS).

But. Having said all that, I would have bought XP just so that I could run PS-CS except for the deal breaker: Plug-In incompatibility.

Years ago I was trying to decide which 35mm camera system to go with. I had pretty well decided on Canon when they announced what was to be their THIRD lens mount system in 8 years: the old lenses would not work (or would not autofocus) on the new system. So, I went with Nikon - virtually any Nikkor lens made will work with the newest Nikon camera. When you've spent tens of thousands of dollars on lenses, the cost of a camera body is insignificant: you just want some assurance that you can use your existing lenses!!

Likewise with Plug-Ins. I have spent thousands of dollars on PS Plug-Ins. Why? Well, some make repetitive actions (such as repairing damaged jpgs, creased photos) quick and easy; others do things that are very difficult or impossible to do by "hand" (converting an image to only black and white - not the greyscale of B&W photos - with an acceptable loss of image quality); some are just fun (like adding crepuscular rays of light, or mist).

So. To "upgrade" to PS-CS would mean 1) a new OS (with all the attendant driver problems and incompatibilities, and weeks spent getting the system stabilized and working again); 2) at least $2000 to replace my existing Plug-Ins (IF they still exist).

Not a good deal for me, I can afford neither the time nor the money. So I bought a used PS-7 from a (poorly rated) Amazon Partner instead. I know it will be my last PS update ever - unless Adobe has an interest in retaining old customers ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Activation
"I wonder what kind of jerk-around the people at Adobe will give me when I try to do this and re-activate the software"

None, as your license (you did read the EULA didn't you?) allows for two installations, one on a dekstop and one on a notebook. As long as you don't use them at the same time you'll be fine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bitter disappointment from Adobe
I ordered my upgrade from Amazon.com, feeling certain that Adobe would continue to provide high quality software. Yes, it's premium-priced, but it's always been worth it. So worth it that while I waited for the package to arrive, I downloaded the tryout program.

Right from the start, I had problems. (And before I go any further, let me just say that this is not a resources issue. I have more than enough RAM, disk space and power to run this puppy.) It took forever to install and a long time to boot up. Finally I got it up and running, changed a few settings, including telling it where to look for my filters and plug-ins, shut it down and rebooted. And it refused to start. Told me a file was missing. So I tried again. Same error message. I reinstalled per their instructions. Booted up. Another crash, same error message. I don't really know how a file can be missing if I've just installed it.

So I uninstalled everything, reinstalled (This is installation #3. It's going on an hour and a half now, between the download and the installation issues) and booted up. No problem. I pointed the program to my plug-ins directory, shut down and rebooted. Guess what? Yup, crashed on boot-up again, and again I got the file missing message. Long story short: Photoshop CS won't use or even recognize any of my plug-ins from PS7. None.

While it offers nothing new in the way of its own filters, the plug-in gallery is a nice touch and too long in coming. Unfortunately if I have more than about 10Mb of images open doing anything in the gallery crashes the program. I'm sure there ae a lot of wonderful features in this program, but judging by my own experiences with the try out, and the customer reviews (I should have read them before ordering!) I can tell you that the package is going back as soon as it arrives. And if Adobe doesn't get its act together, it's lost me as a customer. And I've been a devoted user since PShop3. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing product with unbelievable low price
I am new in vector drawing. I've tried Adobe illustrator first, I cannot quite understand why I have to go through so much trouble to do simple things like draw a line. I decided to give coreldraw a try. Now I am hooked. Coreldraw shows that you can get into vector drawing and still keep your common sense. Coreldraw is so easy to use! After a few months, I can do very sophisticated drawing now.

By buying CorelPainter 8 and CorelDraw 12 Upgrade, I've spend only a fraction of the cost of any Adobe product to get EVERYTHING I need for computer graphics at professional level. Adobe products maybe powerful, but compare to what I got from corel, they cannot justify their unreasonable price tags. Also I think Adobe illustrator and photoshop have unnecessarily complicated and cumbersome interfaces, whoever designed them should be fired!

5-0 out of 5 stars In response to objection about the PhotoPaint
I am upgrading from version 10, and version 10 already has a way to make your default units in Photopaint Pixels.

There is also one user that has reviewed this three times with a bad review. C'mon, now.

Just press Ctrl-J and change the default units to pixels. Simple.

One of the greatest things about CorelDraw is the active help you can get from expert users at http://www.egroups.com/community/cdug

If you had posted this question there, we would have shown you how to do this 3 years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good bang for the buck...
I am an amature photographer and painter. And I love using photoshop too. But I can't afford photoshop. Adobe makes great products but they are overpriced. This is why I got Corel Graphics Suite. It supports all the plug-in's for photoshop, does pretty much everything photoshop and illustrator can and all for a cheaper price. If you are just starting out with computer graphics this is a good alternative to Adobe. Or if you are a student with little or no money and need a legit image suite this is the way to go.

3-0 out of 5 stars Photo-Paint 10 User looking for Upgrade
I have a 5MP DSC camera and use Photo-Paint 10 for all my digital photo work. I am continually irritated by the inability to set default values for the ruler. To edit EVERY photo using pixels, the process is Tools : Options : Units : Pixels ; OK - FIVE clicks for EVERY photo. I thought this would have been fixed in Photo-Paint 12 since the issue is continually brought up in Support. I downloaded the trial version of CorelDraw 12 from corel.com and alas it has not been fixed. I would pay the upgrade price for this feature alone.

2-0 out of 5 stars crash city
I upgraded from v10 hoping to see a lot of new features. CorelDraw in itself is a very valuable program - I have used it for years.

However v12 does crash and it does crash often, and for this reason alone it is extremely dissapointing. I don't think it was worth the upgrade, there just aren't enough new useful features to offset the frequent crashing / memory leak problems.

Basically what you get is some spiffy modernized graphics and icons, no significant improvement to the UI. The word on the street has it that there are some new features however I haven't explored enough to find them. I suppose the masking is a bit better. They still haven't added a curve smoothing option to the path tool in photopaint, this was a feature I was hoping I would see in v12. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Photographer's Point of View and Adobe Photoshop CS
It's all about control. Now you have the photo editing control power in your hands with Adobe Photoshop CS.

Raw format allows photographers greater latitude in how they want their pictures to appear. Open the camera raw image files. Next, quickly apply adjustments such as exposure compensation or tonal adjustments without compressing the image or losing any of the original image data.

Shoot photos in your digital camera's raw format when image quality is the most important factor. Raw format saves all related image data with no in-camera processing.

Photoshop CS allows photographers to:

Control their raw camera images

View live histograms as they work

Create lens blur effects

Simulate photo filter effects

Easily correct exposure problems

Quickly replace color

Automatically crop and straighten photos and Create Adobe Photoshop CS panoramas

The 'Inner Core' of Adobe Photoshop CS

Most of my Photoshop CS work is done in the Browser. I single-click the photos that I need for my Photoshop CS project. Now I have a group of highlighted photos that can be used in the Browser's Automated menu.

The inner core of the Photoshop CS Browser's Automated menu contains: Batch, PDF Presentation, Contact Sheet II and Online Services. Also, Automated menu contains Photomerge, Picture Package and Web Photo Gallery. Running these automated menu tasks from the File Browser saves me a lot of time. I can avoid opening each photo file separately in Photoshop CS.

The Photoshop CS Browser has Sort capabilities that contains the Filename, Flag, Rank, Width and Height. Also, Sort capabilities that contains File Size, Resolution, File Type and Color Profile. Finally, the Photoshop Browser's Sort contains Date Created, Date Modified, Copyright and Custom. You can sort them in ascending or descending order.

Photoshop CS Photomerge and PDF Presentations

In Photomerge, I can make a collage of photos and move them in any order. Also, I can take several sections photos of a large bridge using a tripod. I then take the section photos and join them together with Photoshop CS' Photomerge. I still have to edit the new Photomerge photo for length, size and contrast.

In PDF Presentation, I can turn my photos into Acrobat PDFs and stitch them together. The fun is turning my new creation into a slideshow with various transitions. The PDF Presentation is cross-platform that can be used on a Mac and Windows computers.

The 'Outer Core' of Adobe Photoshop CS

The epiphany moment for me was using Adobe Photoshop Toolbar's one-key letter shortcuts. During an SIG (Special Interest Group) meeting on how to use Adobe Photoshop, the SIG teacher showed the club members the basic one-key letter shortcuts.

Keyboard Commands

The one-key letter shortcuts that I use quite often is M for Marquee, V for Moving objects, T for Text,  I for Eyedropper and C for Crop. There is a multitude of Toolbox one-key letter shortcuts that you can use or change.

Toolbox uses the Shift bar to get to related tools on the same pop-out menu. For example, to cycle through the Lasso, Polygonal Lasso, and Magnetic Lasso tools, hold down Shift bar and keep pressing "L" key.

Change Keyboard Commands in Photoshop CS

This means that missing Photoshop CS Menu keyboard commands can now be added. For example, I am constantly making changes to my images by changing the photos' contrast and brightness.

Now without using the computer mouse, I use the Command, Control, and C keys in unison. Like a piano chord, I can now change the contrast and brightness in my digital photographs. I use Command, Control, and letter keys for adding keyboard commands. This works well within the menus and plugin filters that I use in Photoshop CS.

Pro Reaction

Photoshop CS offers flexibility and nondestructive editing. Photoshop's Welcome screen and improved Help ease the learning curve for new users. The Help menu is changeable. I find Photoshop CS' Help menu an excellent way to learn the various functions of Photoshop program. Photoshop CS comes with a paper, hardcopy paper manual.

Con Reaction

You have to read and work with hardcopy paper manual. Photoshop CS is not compatible with older Mac OS. Photoshop CS requires Mac OS X 10.2.4 or greater.

Final Words

Photoshop is the industry standard for professional photo editing, graphic design, and digital imaging. Adobe Photoshop is considered the industry standard. Photoshop skills are required for employment in the graphic design field.

Digital photographers will benefit from Adobe Photoshop with its strong digital-camera raw workflow. Adobe Photoshop is made for Jaguar (Mac OS 10.2) and Panther (Mac OS 10.3). ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I Used To Enjoy Autocad LT
I used to enjoy Autocad LT so much more than the full version of Autocad. For someone like me who does production drawings, LT was a great thing. It simplified and sped up the process. When I recently purchased the upgrade from Autocad LT 2004 to LT 2006, all of this changed. I felt like I was back in the day, trying to install Autocad Release 8.

It took more than a few tries to install the upgrade to Autocad LT 2006. Once I did install it, I needed to uninstall it, since it was lethargic and crashed the computer.

Here are some of the major issues I had:
1. LT installs usually go smoothly. This install was as frustrating as they come. But not just because of the usual bugs. There were too many choices required and none of these choices was clearly explained.(A muddy explanation is hidden in the documentation)This leads to a fork in the install:
2. "Stand-Alone" or "Multi-Seat" install. I purchased a single license. Why is the "Multi-Seat" option even offered during this installation? I asked someone at Autodesk what would have happened if I had done the "Multi-Seat" install. I would have to pay to get the activation codes.
3. The activation codes are now 32 characters long and are only good for one use. If you need to re-install Autocad LT 2006 on a new computer or on the supposed second "allowed" computer with a "stand-alone" license, you must call and go through the same drill again. The on-line activation process didn't work. I talked to friends who said it didn't work for them, either. This process was very frustrating. If you want to avoid this for your second computer, you may use the "portable license" feature. This allows you to transfer Autocad LT from one computer to another, but then disables Autocad LT on the first computer after 24 hours.

The first installation went very poorly. There was some promise with the settings migration. This feature was nice and it worked. This was about the only thing that worked on the first installation. After the migration and the activation, the computer froze. After re-booting, I tried again. Autocad LT 2006 was extremely sluggish. No other programs could run at the same time. I uninstalled 2 programs, to no avail. It took 4 minutes to install a 1 megabyte drawing. I uninstalled LT 2006.

The next day, I tried again. It went a little better this time. The install was smoother. This time, LT ran more smoothly. When I got into the heart of the changes, I was very disappointed. All of that money for renamed old commands. An added calculator? I have a calculator, thank you, and it cost me a lot less than this upgrade. The previews from Autodesk lead one to believe there are truly good things about this version of Autocad LT. There aren't. I never had problems plotting prior to this. Now I do!

It seems the primary goal of these upgrades is not a better product for the consumer, but added security measures for Autodesk. The result is incredible frustration for the consumer. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Adobe makes a great product
This is a very nice, relatively smooth upgrade, I haven't had any major issues. The new filters pallette is very nice to work with - it saves a good amount of time allowing you to apply mulitple transformations within one window.

The isues that I have had:

- it does crash in XP when using the right mouse click to "open file with"...it works much better if the program is opened first and then the file is opened ...I haven't upgraded my Mac yet, so I'm not sure if the situation with be the same on the OSX platform.

- this is very minor but the pixel aspect ratio is set for video when I open a Bitmap-TIFF ...it's a file type that the computer somehow sees as a preview for video, but it's a simple fix - just change the pixel aspect ration view back to square ...I must admit the first time it happened and my image loaded looking all squished, I got that curious dog look on my face, cocked my head to the side wondering "what the heck is this?"

- Some of my files which are 250MB working in 7.0 seem to be exploding to 400MB in CS... this is something which I haven't been able to trace or figure out just yet, but it does cause significant problems for working speed ...I only have 1.3GB of RAM which is fine for a 250MB drawing but not sufficient for a 400MB drawing. I'll have to delve deeper into the software to see if I can figure this one out.

Overall, it seems like a fine upgrade, but as with most upgrades there are some issues/surprises when you make the switch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Upgrade for Digital Photographers
Adobe's newest release of Photoshop, is great news for digital photographers amongst others. This version now brings 16-bit suport to Photoshop. That means that we can now work with RAW camera files with full support of most Photoshop tools. The changes are more behind the scenes than they are cosmetic. Being able to customize your own keyboard shortcuts is a big timesafer. You can't go wrong with this upgrade! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Autodesk's AutoCAD is without a doubt the industry standard for computerdrafting. Its leaner sibling, AutoCAD LT, offers many of the same features asthe full version at a fraction of the cost. And while LT 2002 does include a fewof the important innovations of AutoCAD 2002, its capabilities are stillstrictly limited to 2-D drawing.

Compatibility is one of the key advantages of LT 2002. It is 100 percentDWG-compatible with AutoCAD 2000-, 2000i-, and 2002-based products, allowing youto open, edit, and exchange drawing files. The software featuresbackward-compatibility as well, letting you save files for use with AutoCAD LT98 and 97 and AutoCAD 13 and 14. This comes in extremely handy for peoplesharing files with others who haven't upgraded recently. The DWF fileformat--basically a PDF file for drawings introduced in the 2000 version--isimproved, too, with support for more raster image formats and higherresolutions.

Several Web publishing tools are included, which means users receive morecollaboration options. eTransmit, for example, puts drawings you currently haveopen--with all associated files and x-refs--into a single set so that users canedit the file on another machine. This ensures that every necessary component ofa file is present without the user having to individually select all relatedfiles. Users can then post the transmitted set on the Internet or send it as anattachment via e-mail. Additional Web publishing enhancements, such as templatesand themes, have been improved, giving users the ability to create Web sitesusing LT drawing files with no Web development knowledge.

One feature that did find its way into LT from the full 2002 version isassociative dimensioning. If you modify a geometric object in a drawing, associative dimensioning automatically adjusts all dimensions associated withthat object. This eliminates the need to manually update or re-create dimensionsfor changes in geometry. All in all, this is a very useful feature. However, itdoes make it more difficult for users who have grown accustomed to manuallyforcing dimensions of objects in their drawings.

AutoCAD LT 2002 is a solid choice if you're looking for a lower-cost option andhave limited CAD needs. 100 percent compatibility and plenty of valuablefeatures make it a worthwhile purchase. It does offer considerably less than thefull-featured version, missing all 3-D drawing capabilities and no provisionsfor network licensing or license management features. But if you can livewithout these options, LT 2002 is certainly the way to go. --JoshuaGoldman ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD BUT LIGHT FOR A REASON
As a design professional I have been using AutoCad since 1991. I have learned through bitter experience, the full version is what you want. LT is okay if all you will ever do is 2-D drafting. But, the commands in LT are not very flexible. If you want to build your speed, you must use custom commands. To do this, you will eventually get into wrting LISP commands on your own...it's much easier than you might think...and you can not do that in LT. Also, drawing in 3-D is one of the most fantastic experiences you will have as a draftsman. The full version is a delight to use. It takes just about as much time to learn LT as it does the full version if you are new to CAD. And, the 3-D tools are very easy to catch on to after you have the basic concept of working in the computer environment. So, LT is good...but really leaves you wanting more drafting power very quickly. If I had to do it all over again, I would have saved the dough and just bought the full version right off. Be aware, however, the full version is a huge file. But, with today's computer power, it's no problem even for a cheap lap-top.

1-0 out of 5 stars I use it every day
After using a product on a daily basis I can say this program is def. not worth it, I have started with R12, then R14, ADT 2000 and now 2002 and still the program crashes on all ov our computers at least twice daily, many times without even saving ANYTHING to the recover file. The program makes a user want to pick up a pencil and start drawing by hand again!

5-0 out of 5 stars I've earned my living with LT.
I've been a regular user of AutoCad now for well over a decade (I started on R10.) I've had various versions of LT on my home computers since '95. If you work in a 2-D environment, then it is everything you really need. In fact, even though I use full AutoCad at work (R14) I regularly take drawings home with me to view and edit on my LT. I've also done extremely large projects at home (mechanical design) that are as complex as anything that I've ever done on the full version at work. However, if you are now part of the 3-D and solid modelling world, then you are out of luck. This is strictly a 2-D product.

At the risk of offending the newer generation out there, I've found that in my experience 2-D fits the actual needs of the vast majority of users in the real manufacturing world. In fact I've seen company after company, especially small ones, that have been talked into solid modelling ( and expensive new work stations) they never needed, only to end up using the system exclusively for 2-D work. I've also seen several companies suffice perfectly well with a couple of seats of AutoCad LT on their old office PC's, combined with AutoCAD Viewer for the salesmen (which is a much, much, more economical way to go.)

Oh yes, don't even think about loading this software on multiple machines with only a single license. Autodesk WILL come down on you like a 600 pound gorilla....

3-0 out of 5 stars AutoCAD LT 2002
AutoCAD LT 2002 is an excellent product. It does everything I had expected it to do but the licensing policy is unfairly restrictive. I was required to purchase a new license because no upgrade path exists for the AutoCAD LT 95 product that I owned previously. Prospective customers should also be aware that, unlike software licenses purchased from many other vendors, AutoDesk does not allow the license to be resold to another user.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Transitional Tool
I am a design/drafting professional who has been using the full-version of AutoCad for more than a decade as well as AutoCad LT. I've seen a lot of frustration from professionals who try to make the transition from manual drafting to CAD. AutoCad LT 2002 is finally the product for the professionals who need to make this transition. Many who need to make this transition often feel overwhelmed by the copious amounts of information in the full version of AutoCad. This version of LT, and even the accompanying book (whoa!a useful manual?), allows a professional to go at his or her own speed and self-teach without the usual frustrations. This is also a good program for the road warriors who need to review drawings on job sites, but don't want to bog down their laptops with the full-version of AutoCad. There are commands missing, for the purists out there, and the 3D capabilities are almost non-existant. This program is good for those who have no AutoCad experience at all. ... Read more
