It's hard to imagine that Adobe can make Photoshop any better than this. Long considered the professional image-editing standard among graphic digital artists worldwide, Photoshop is certain to cement that reputation even further with the array of new features offered in the Adobe PhotoShop CS 2 Upgrade. Artists, creative professionals, photographers, and industry professionals will find that the workflow and image customization enhancements will be worth far more than the price of the upgrade.

Achieve amazing results in a fraction of the time with the groundbreaking Vanishing Point tool, which lets you clone, paint, and paste elements that automatically match the perspective of the surrounding image area.
    Adobe Bridge (formerly File Browser)
Adobe Bridge software is the new-generation File Browser--Photoshop's navigational control center that allows you to browse, organize, label, and preview graphics and Photoshop files quickly and efficiently. Adobe Bridge takes File Browser, introduced in Photoshop 7.0, a step further by providing centralized access to your suite project files, applications, and settings. With Adobe Bridge, you can process multiple camera raw images at once; resize, rate and label thumbnails; review images in slide show mode; and more. With file organization and sharing, plus Adobe Stock Photos at your fingertips all the time, you simply search for the files you want to place using metadata--such as key words, colors or image resolution--and seamlessly drag and drop your filesinto Photoshop. You can even page through an entire Adobe PDF file right in the preview panel of Adobe Bridge. And with Adobe Bridge, you can also browse, search and purchase royalty-free images from leading stock photo agencies without ever leaving InDesign CS2. It's as simple as that.

Revolutionary Vanishing Point and Image Warp
Photographers will be especially amazed at the effects that Vanishing Point can bring to a project. Clone, paint, and paste elements that automatically match the perspective of the surrounding image area in a fraction of the time that it currently takes. With Image Warp, you can easily create packaging mock-ups or other dimensional effects by wrapping an image around any shape. Place yourclient's logo around a coffee cup, or stretch, curl or bend an image across the hood of a car or around the Space Shuttle, for that matter. The effects you can create with Image Warp will be limited only by your imagination.

Accelerate your raw file workflow with simultaneous processing of multiple images while you continue working.
    Digital Camera Raw File Support
Accelerate your raw file workflow with simultaneous processing of multiple images while you continue working. With Photoshop CS2, you can import images into your choice of formats, including Digital Negative (DNG); enjoy automatic adjustments to exposure, shadows, and brightness and contrast; and much more. This exciting new enhancement provides fast and easy access within Photoshop software to the "raw" image formats produced by many leading professional and midrange digital cameras. The Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in--now available as part of Photoshop CS2--has been updated to support more cameras and include more features.

Spot Healing Brush and One-Click Red-Eye Correction
Never have touch ups been so easy. With the Spot Healing Brush, you can effortlessly retouch photos--including 16-bit images--in a single click. Red-eye Correction lets you instantly neutralize red eyes and also lets you set pupil size and darkening level.

Effective red-eye reduction is only a few clicks away.

Use the new multilayer select feature to more intuitively edit and control your work.

    Other New Features
Photoshop CS2 offers a huge array of exciting new features designed to help artists and creative professionals in all fields stretch their imagination and increase their work and creative efficiencies:

    • Smart Objects: Perform nondestructive scaling, rotating, and warping of raster and vector graphics with Smart Objects. Even preserve the editability of high-resolution vector data from Adobe Illustrator software.
    • Multiple Layer Control: Select and move, group, transform, and warp objects more intuitively by clicking and dragging directly on the canvas. Easily align objects with Smart Guides.
    • Nondestructive Image Correction: Improve the color, contrast, and dynamic range of any image using a comprehensive set of professional correction tools and nondestructive adjustment layers, which display corrections while preserving the original.
    • Full 16-bit and New 32-bit Image Support: Work with absolute precision thanks to support for 16-bit images in all channels and layers. Create and edit 32-bit images, and take advantage of High Dynamic Range, 32-bit support.
    • Advanced Noise Reduction: Reduce noise and remove JPEG artifacts for cleaner images.
    • Customizable Workspaces and Menus: Get easier access to the tools you need with task-based presets, highlight new or commonly used menu items, and even set up and save custom menus and workspaces.
    • Web Animations: Quickly create dynamic GIF animations directly within Photoshop CS2 by taking advantage of the new Animations palette and layer palette animation options.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sink The Bridge
Photoshop is absolutely the essential program for anyone who is serious about digital photography.Nobody ever completely masters it. It is an outstanding program. However, the addition of the "Bridge" was a bad idea. It is a complex new program that adds little to the file browser of earlier version (CS) and should either be vastly improved or dumped (preferably the latter). In addition, the Raw Image converter has been changed.I for one, am not pleased with it's saving in the background and remaining open.Otherwise, it remains a must. Not sure that it is much of an improvement over CS though.

4-0 out of 5 stars MAJOR upgrade
Version 7 to CS was a waste of money. CS2 is worth every penny. Why only 4 stars? I'm not too crazy about the "bridge". Maybe I'll get used to it but so far it seems kind of clunky.

I'm not so sure it's "any version" however. If you have a version lower than 5.5, they tell you call them. And according to Adobe, "this upgrade does not apply to Adobe Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Album, Photoshop Limited Edition, or PhotoDeluxe licensed users." To upgrade these, Adobe has a verion on their site for $499.

1-0 out of 5 stars Need a Different Operating System
Amazon clearly says OS X.I have 10.2.8.I can't install ilife5.There should be a bold face warning that you need Panther or Tiger to install.

4-0 out of 5 stars Working with iMovie HD
    `Established' Shot and Location

In the Timeline, I set the order of my Clip Panes with the first being the important `Established' shot. Clips are pieces of movie footage that you rearrange into your movie for storytelling. Later, I add a movie title that answers the questions of  when and where the movie was filmed. You will find that location and date anchor the movie for your viewing audience.

    Major Editing in Post Production

I change the Preference to Clip Panes shelf when I do the major editing of my movie. Next, I split my movie clips into several new clips and drag them to the Clip Panes shelf for later editing.

Most of my movie clips need slitting (Command `T') to remove poor movie footage such as shaky hand-held camcorder shooting. The Post Production editing is the most time- consuming. I find that a ratio of one minute of movie footage is equal to one hour of editing time. This includes selecting the proper music, editing the sound and enhancing the video.

    Analog Signals into Digital Signals

An analog-to-digital converter, or ADC as it is more commonly called, is a device that converts analog signals into digital signals. Computers, which handle data in digital form, require analog-to-digital converters to turn signals from analog to digital before it can be read.

Could I convert my VCR cassette`s Analog Signals into Digital Signals?

According to the Canon ZR60 camcorder's manual, the answer was negative for traditional replacing of existing scenes for the AV insert. Taking my roundabout approach, I worked at importing film footage from my RIC master VCR tape from my Rhode Island College Video project from 1992 using iMovie HD. My Canon ZR60 camcorder manual hinted at the solution for importing the VCR's analog video and sound.

How did I connect the devices? I used my ST-250N Stereo Video cable supplied with my Canon ZR60 camcorder and connected it to the VCR's video and sound ports.

I experimented with iMovie HD to solve the problem. My Canon ZR60 captured the master VCR tape footage after I set the camera to AC-In mode. Next, I reverse the book instructions from David Pogue's "iMovie 4 & iDVD, the Missing Manual" to make it work.

I chose File to Share (Shift-Command-E) then I clicked on the "Videocamera" icon. The instructions said, `Record your movie to a tape in your videocamera. This operation may take several minutes to complete.' Next, I changed the wait time to a maximum of 59 seconds for camera to get ready. Finally, I changed the Add time to 59 seconds of black before and to end the movie.

By using this method, I could capture 59 seconds of my RIC public speaking instruction master VCR tape to my MiniDV digital video cassette in my Canon ZR60 camcorder. Importing the entire RIC master VCR tape was 10 minutes and I had to stop and start 10 times bringing in the VCR film footage.

Note: This will not work with Copy Protected videos for editing videos.

The quality from analog to digital tape was quite good. A commercial Analog Signals into Digital Signals converter sells for $500 to $900 retail. Therefore, the effort was worth it for this project.

    Final Notes

I find the iMovie HD program one of the best iMovies program series. iMovie HD worked well with some of my old iMovies 4 footage and enhanced my previous low-light film footage when transported and burned in iDVD 5 program.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great upgrade, but...
All I wanted to do was create a DVD for my brother.IMovie is decent. It has a few minor quirks to it.The amount of time for title slides has a max of 4 seconds. All of my slides are 4 seconds.Anything else seems too short and amateurish. It had a problem importing MGEP 1 movies.I had to go through a convoluted process to get the movie into place.Even then, the first .5 seconds of the audio was missing...due to the conversion process. This is not Apple fault, except they should be able to import those movies.all other formats works fine.

I found iDVD to have major quirks.First, the audio was 1 second behind the video on the DVD.Then the audio kept advancing forward, make it ouf of sync, more and more as the movie played on.Then the movie would stop the audio at the first sound effect i placed in a text slide. This was extremely frustrating.I thought it was supposed to be easy!?

iDVD just takes a movie, renders it, and burns it to a DVD with some selection screens. How hard is that?I ended up remaking one of my iMovie projects three time before it finally came out.The other project, well, I had to extract the audio so that it would be on the DVD (except the first and last video).Lastly, the final chapter (movie marker) pointed to the start of the movie.

I like Garageband, it's easy but not a powerful tool like Logic.
ITunes, well, it's iTunes! It is definitive.
iPhoto is awesome. It still feels like it is just feature creeping, for better or worse.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes it doesn't just work.
iLife '05is supposed to support RAW image processing (see product description above) for photos in iPhoto. The surprise is that although my Canon camera is supported, it's RAW image format is not, rendering iPhoto useless for most of my photographs. This was unexpected as third party companies have image conversion software that manages to do this with little problem.I know there are many RAW image formats, but it's the job of good technology to simplify a complex environment.

I'm new to Apple products and very pleased overall since we purchased the imac G5.It seems like in most cases "it just works" describes their system well, but in this case, I guess we needed to read the "fine print".

I also noticed that it is still not possible to record anything on GarageBand with the iSight's (Apples webcam/microphone).Apparently there is some type of software/hardware incompatibility.Expected in Windows machines, (fortunately) unusual in Apple products. Not a major issue for most, but the incompatibility of Apple hardware and software is still an unwelcome surprise.

5-0 out of 5 stars The iPhoto alone is worth the price
All of the improvements are great. I was editing a video for a presentation when my order arrived. There was a transition that I simply could not get the old iMovie to do. I installed the new iLife and told it to make the same transition in the film and it worked perfectly. I don't know why or how but I was sold five minutes after the box arrived.
I still think iPhoto is the best improvement however. I really like the scrollable photo index when looking at a picture in edit mode. I also like the ability to eject the camera from within iPhoto(I sometimes forgot to do this before.)And the one-touch red-eye correction is nice too.
Also I like the new themes for iDVD. The movie I was editing ended up getting one of the new themes instead of the old theme I had originally picked and I was very pleased with the end result. The presentation was a big success. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Does things right
I've been a Dreamweaver devotee since version 3. It was the first visual editor I felt comfortable with after doing hand-coding for many years. I thought it was time to give myself a break and just layout pages visually - a process I've become very accustomed to over the past, oh, five years.

I purchased MXStudio 2004 because I wanted to learn Flash and to get a new version of Fireworks - those alone were probably worth my $200. The Mac OS X version of Dreamweaver, however, is absolutely horrific. It's slower than Classic, slower than MX... it's just impossibly slow. In testing, I've found a web page to take 8 seconds from double-clicking it to being able to edit it. Resizing a window takes 2.5 seconds on average. This is all on a fairly quick iMac G4 running at 800MHz, with Mac OS X 10.3.2, the newest version of the operating system, installed.

The new features are nice - pasting in styled text from MS Word is extremely handy when many of your clients use that program (like mine). This is the first Mac OS X-native version of Dreamweaver I've used, so not starting up Classic is a huge benefit.

If Macromedia can figure out where the sluggishness is happening (and actually fix it!) , I'd be a much happier web designer. I just want a quick WYSIWYG web page editor that supports CSS well (Dreamweaver always has); the lack of speed with which this program carries out its tasks is seriously detrimental to my productivity, though. Doing a series of copying and pasting in notes from Word to Dreamweaver is just dog-slow... and it's not because Word is lagging on me.

Wait for an update, then see if things are better.

Edit: an update, 7.0.1, is now available. Macromedia touts it as the biggest incremental update to a program ever. I have to say it really does speed up the process. The program doesn't feel as lithe as shareware Cocoa programs designed for one app, but I doubt it would ever feel quite that good.

Overall, this update easily ups my score 1 star, and more likely, 1 and a half stars. Since we can't rate my half stars, I'm going to go out on a limb and increase my rating from its previous 2 stars to 4, because Macromedia seems to have tried so hard - and really delivered the goods with this update.

4-0 out of 5 stars I use it for professional and personal use.
I owned Dreamweaver MX, and then bought MX 2004. Overall I'm glad I did, but I could see how some people might not need to upgrade. I mostly like the changes in CSS. It's added some wysiwyg functionally for certain CSS stuff. It does seem slower to load though. I run it on a 1.0GHz Pentium M Tablet PC with 512 MB of RAM and it takes a bit to come up but after it does performance is fine. Then it also takes a while to close. I really enjoy using macromedia though and would DEFINITELY recommend it over Frontpage which I used before I switched a couple years ago.

Also, I noticed some people complained that MX 2004 takes a REALLY long time to load. I might add taht 7.0 was the original version released and then they released an upgrade to version 7.1 for free (that you can get at macromedia.com) and it is supposed to improve "overall performance and stability" according to macromedia, but the version I bought came with v 7.1 so I never experienced 7.0. This could make a difference though.

1-0 out of 5 stars Upgrade? What upgrade? Just problems
Upgrade? What upgrade? The older versions were much better than this one. This new version runs very slowly, adds redundant and unneeded tags and crashes more often than Windows 98!
Please just don't buy this product, don't waste your money.

    4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Upgrade, but . . .
I'm one of those people who tends to upgrade their more expensive software every other versaion rather than every one. That being said I've used both DreamWeaver 2 and 4, but never MX (5).

I didn't notice a lot of improvement in version 4 over 2, so I wasn't that anxious to do the upgrade. But I have to say that I love MX 2004! I won't go into an extensive list of things that I can do in this one that I couldn't before, but suffice it to say, there are a lot of them.

The biggest improvements to me are the more integrated workplace and the ditching of the floating palets. I hated the floating palets! I used the drop-down menues instead because they bugged me so much! I also love the improved FTP/Site Management interface. Secure FTP, people!

The tool is slick and powerfull. Well worth the cost to upgraders. The bad thing: It doesn't like my Amazon Associates code! It tags them as invalid HTML and ignores them when it uploads the site. As a result, I still have to edit those pages in FrontPage and uplaod the site using a traditional FTP client. Not good (this is why it only gets 4 stars).

Also, in the next version Macormedia should add an "as you go" spell checker or at least put a button for spell check on one of the button bars. This is another thing I use FrontPage for. I edit my more text intensive pages in FP and then import them into Dreamweaver.

Don't waste your money on the full suite, though. With the exception of DreamWeaver, none of them are worth the money. I'm glad I qualified for the Academic version (and discount).

The tools are overrated and over priced. If you're a web designer there are free or inexpensive tools that do what you need from Freehand and Fireworx. (I am no fan of Microsoft, but after trying several tooks, I do most of my web photo editing in Picture It!) The one feature I use from Fireworx is the button creator. The rest of it's extranious. Flash may look nice, but it slows your site down too much for my taste. I almost always skip the Flash animation when I visit a website.

Bottom line -- Buy DreamWeaver, but skip the suite.

This is a review if the PC version.

1-0 out of 5 stars buggy
I used earlier generations of Dreamweaver for years for Website design and maintenance. I was a fan, including of MX. But when we upgraded to MX 2004, a lot of things that worked fine before no longer did. Graphics move around on the page for reasons you can't figure out, links sometimes work and sometimes don't, keyboard commands sometimes work and sometimes don't, even the cursor jumps around for weird reasons that you can never figure out, etc., etc., etc... I've never thought I'd say this, but i'm ready to try FrontPage. Or whatever else is out there. But best, if you have an earlier generation of Dreamweaver, I'd recommend sticking with it and not "upgrading" to this. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Installation Issue
I received my CS2 yesterday and ended up spending over three hours on the phone with Adobe with installation issue and another 45 minutes this morning trying to get my free gift to no avail. Beware of what they tell you re: free gift! If you can't install the software and register THROUGH the software, you won't get your gift. It's a catch 22 - you can't register through the software if you can't install it, you can't get tech support if your product is not registered, so you register on the phone and NO gift!

    Here is what happened:

Insert CD, double click on installer, prompted for password, then it quit with Apple's message "the ... has unexpectedly quit . . . "

Tried a few things using Adobe.com support knowledgebase. When trying to install on a different computer yielded the same issue, I called Adobe customer service.

Took a half hour before getting the product "almost" registered, then got transferred to tech support by mistake and they couldn't help me since my product was NOT registered.

Had to call back and did the registration thing all over again and was ASSURED that they could still send the email out for the free gift if I were to register on the phone (which was a lie I was told today). Another 30-45 minutes.

Another 20 minutes with some third party person (apparently Adobe does that BEFORE allowing you to talk to tech support to "weed" out the callers, great customer service, huh?). I finally spoke with a tech support guy who in turn was reading everything I already read online. He suggested that I copied the discs onto my desktop and intall from there.

Another 30 minutes of copying disk image, the installation failed the exact same way.

Had to talk to another third party person to get through to tech support. 10 minutes.

FINALLY someone who was knowledgeable who walked me through step-by-step on how to enable root user in Netinfo Mgr and the installation was successful!

No email on the free gift. 45 minutes with another Adobe customer service guy resulted in "we are sorry but the other agent was mistaken, there is nothing we can do for you regarding your free gift."

I started using Adobe products with Ilustrator 1.0 in 1987, have been a loyal customer and have switched from Quark to InDesign. BUT this experience made me sad that it is acquiring Macromedia. Now I have to deal with Adobe on my Flash and Dreamweaver products too!

I still love the products but Adobe's customer service and policy leave you wondering if it has gotten too big for its own good. ... Read more

    Amazon.com Review

Mixed-media professionals such as photographers, Web designers, andgraphic designers will not be disappointed in Adobe's latest incarnation ofPhotoshop. In this release, Adobe aims hard at addressing the issues of filemanagement, easy photo retouching, and smarter output for the Web. While Adobemanages to successfully address these issues, it also remains true to its photoediting roots. New and improved features and tools such as a painting option andan enhanced brush palette allow Photoshop to build on its reputation as theleading tool for image manipulators. New-school designers of wirelessapplications will smile when they discover that Photoshop 7.0 offers support forWBMP-formatted graphics.

Photoshop 7.0's new file management system comes in the form of a WindowsExplorer-like file browser that allows users to easily sort and locate theirimages within various projects. Users can now organize projects by name, date, resolution, and a number of additional parameters.

The enhanced brush palette allows users to create custom brushes and save themas presets that can be accessed from the Tools options bar. Users can easilyvary different aspects of the brush by changing the hue, opacity, or flow of thebrushes for pastels, oils, and charcoal. Photoshop 7.0 also introduces a newHealing Brush and Patch Tool. With these tools, users can easily "heal" theirimages by removing scratches, blemishes, and other imperfections whilepreserving shading, lighting, and texture attributes.

Adobe has taken great strides in revamping Photoshop 7.0 to be more Web-readythan ever before. With the help of its companion software Image Ready, users cannow easily create rollovers and complex navigation bars by using the newRollovers palette. Additional Web-ready features include enhanced Web exportfunctions that allow designers to preview images designed for PDAs and mobilephones in the WBMP format. Users can easily create a slide show of their imagesand post online using the new Web Gallery. People concerned about posting theirimages online can secure their images with the new password protection featurebefore sharing them.

Adobe has finally introduced a long overdue spell checker with wickedmultilingual spell-checking capabilities. A new search and replace featureallows users to search and replace across different layers in the same document.

While Photoshop 7.0 introduces an impressive array of features that allowphotographers, Web designers, and graphic designers to work more effectivelywith Web and wireless devices, it also remains the leading tool for anyoneserious about digital imaging. No other software package provides users with theability to create such high-quality images. --Rich Ting ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing...
Adobe Photoshop is simply the best when it comes to photo-editing. I've personally been using it for years and have found it to be one of my most valuable tools in the field of web page design. When version 6.0 came out I was blown away by all the new features, more filters, more powerful. Version 7.0 is slated to be the BEST version of Photoshop EVER, with tons of new features such as the new Image Browser the Healing brush, and Spell Checking. Now, while Photoshop is one heck of a great piece of software...

4-0 out of 5 stars State of the Art
Adobe sets the standard in imaging and graphics applications. I have been using Photoshop both for PC and Mac for over a year, and would not even consider using anything else. Yes, there is a learning curve as my fellow reviewers have noted. But, tutorial books on photoshop are plentiful. I would suggest taking a non-credit course at your local college or university to get the basics down.

Photoshop features a vast array of tools for photo editing and you may become overwhelmed at first. You'll want to try everything! Play around with the artistic filters and amaze yourself. You can always undo any changes you make.

This is a professional grade photo editing suite. If you are simply looking to touch up family snapshots, you may wish to consider Adobe's Photoshop Elements, which has several features found in Photoshop, but for less than half the price.

Photoshop is truly a digital darkroom in a box!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Picture editor
This program can do so much...

weather it is making the color look nicer in pictures, Adjusting the light, adding things, or even making scenery textures for computer games! It is also great for making web pages... just draw out what you want your web page to look like, and seperate the links and Voila! I highly recomend Photographers (like me), Game editors (like me), web designers (like me), or other jobs that you are tired of using MS paint for or that ms paint cant do. What ever your need Adobe Photo Shop is a great program.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest inventions ever.
Everybody talks of Photoshop simply as software. But it's implications in the modern day digital world are huge. Photoshop as an invention has been as influential as the light bulb, because it has changed our perception of reality. Today, every time we look at an image, say it's on a website, a magazine, television or any printed media, we wonder or contemplate the posibility of how much "Photoshopped" the image is. In the popular realm Photoshop can create crazy aberrations that are at times fun, and to the trained eye you can detect just where the editing took place. But in the hands of experts, we can just wonder how much media images have been manipulated without us ever noticing. What Photoshop has done over the years is to democratize digital image editing, something that was one time limited to high end image labs and pros. Photoshop has no real learning curve, because it's progressive. The thing is that if you're intrested, go for it, there are hundreds of learning resources available (tutorials included with the software are complete and comprehensive). Photoshop is a must have tool.

3-0 out of 5 stars The ok adobe
I think that this is and ok program but not a very powerful one. If you wont a powerful program go to this web site www.imagener.com/se/gc and get a program called Kneson imagener and you can get it in pro or standard version. And Adobe photoshop i rate it a 4/10 and the Kneson imagener a 8/10.

SO, Go and get Kneson imagener NOW,

Before its to LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more
