Amazon.com Product Description

This English-Spanish talking dictionary is designed for anyone who needs to use English or Spanish, from the beginning student to the language professional. The dictionary comes with a set of tools for speedy look-up of any words, checking their meaning and pronunciation, and verifying translations of any text on the computer. The variety of settings and levels makes the software simple and straightforward to use.

The Shooting Gallery exercise helps the user learn new words more quickly. The program offers different levels of difficulty and different word ranges to suit the language level, including the 500/1,000/1,500/2,000/2,500/3,000 most commonly used words. The crossword puzzles included in the software are never repeated, and are also offered in various levels of difficulty.

The AudioPad module is designed to teach correct pronunciation. With the help of AudioPad, the learner can listen to the original speech of a professional native speaker and also record and listen to his or her own speech. In addition, each sound fragment is graphically displayed, which makes practicing more vivid and helps the user to imitate all nuances of the pronunciation with greater precision. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product -- for Europe
This is a wonderfully easy-to-use English-Spanish dictionary and vocabulary tool that is stable (from a computer standpoint), and has good -- but not overly verbose definitions. As a physician who cares for many Hispanic patients and a teacher of medical Spanish, I find it invaluable for rapid reference after just a week. HOWEVER, the English pronunciations are VERY British and are TERRIBLY confusing to the Latin American students to whom I have demonstrated the program. After I contacted the company, they informed me that they have NO PLANS TO INCLUDE AMERICAN ENGLISH. Likewise, the Spanish is European. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO U.S. STUDENTS who want it to improve their pronunciation for use in situations where Latin American Spanish is spoken -- like the entire Western Hemisphere! It is analogous to foreigners who learn British English and then come to the U.S. When their accent is combined with their attempts at British pronunciation, they are very difficult to understand for most gringos. The vocabulary games seem rather basic, but I haven't explored them sufficiently to comment since I employ the program as a quick reference while writing in Spanish. In a nutshell, an EXCELLENT DICTIONARY for quick reference while writing, reading, or learning. TERRIBLE for learning American English pronunciation (e.g. a student studying for TOFEL) or Latin American Spanish pronunciation. (The following is based on limited observations.) The vocabulary games are rudimentary, and I hope that they will be more sophisticated in future releases (as far as more vocabulary catagories) to allow students to concentrate on specific areas easily. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good!!!!!
From Latin Now I was able to learn a great deal of the Latin Language which I was learning for my studies of Ancient Times. My experience with this software is a good one. I was able to learn many important phrases and the begining knowledge of the language with little difficulty. Latin Now makes use of many technological aspects with the use of audio and video. You can check to see if your pronunciation is right with a Speech Anaylsis or Pronunciation Meter that is featured. There are many games and activities that give good practice which is one of the best ways to learn a new language. My advice for anyone who wants to learn a language is to try this out, it provides many tools and a great method for learning Latin. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Believe The Hype
I received my software with much anticipation after reading the reviews. I needed a "Before you get started" version just to help explain the "Getting Started" section. I all wanted was images, the Italian and English translations, and a pronunciation guide. It's taking an in depth study just to learn how to effectively use the software. I am very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Buy!!!!!
I was very happy with this software after using it. I found that it was a great program for a beginning Italian speaker and enjoyed using it. It is well worth the buy in my opinion and does exactly what its meant to do. It is a great way to learn beginning grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, phrases and more. I am more than satisfied with this 5-star software.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Way to Study Italian
I found that this program was excellent for studying Italian. The lessons are really easy to follow and have good video and audio features. What I really liked about the audio was being able to hear all of the Italian words said by a native speaker which helped immensly with my pronunciation. I also like that an Alphabet Reference and a Grammar Tutorial were included. In the end, this is a very good program that does what its supposed to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Speak Italian
This program is awesome. It is far less confusing than most other language learning programs I have tried because it is setup in 15 lessons. It also has various games and other ways to review and practice with that I found very helpful. For an easy and simple way to learn Spanish check this out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for Travel
I bought this product to learn some Italian a couple months before I traveled to Italy. I Can Speak Italian really worked well for me. It was simple to use and gave me a great method to practice with. I took the 15 lessons the program brings you through then used a flashcard program that comes with it to practice with. The lessons really focus well on listening, speaking and reading skills and lead you down the right path to learning Italian. The program also features numerous games and such to also practice with. With this I was able to learn a lot of Italian for my trip. If you are looking for an effective, and cheap way to learn a language I recomend giving this a try. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Immersion training in the comfort of your own home
Bonjour. This software is amazing! I only started a week ago, but it definitely seems to have all the material necessary to learn to think, speak, and write in French.

The package comes with a headset (headphones and microphone) to practice your French out loud. It has word games, writing tests and speaking quizzes. You can also program the software to be an easy judge or such a difficult judge that a native French speaker would have a hard time.

The voice recognition software shows the sound frequency of each word spoken properly in French and then compares the sound waves of your speech to see how close you are speaking to a native French speaker.

This program is NOT easy. It's easy to use, but it is still a challenge to teach yourself French. It can be total immersion if you choose, or you can ask for English translations along the way. If you really want to learn French, with some effort this will work. Merci beaucoup. Au revoir. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A+ German is a very good way to learn German
I bought Learn German Now by the same company about a year ago and had a hard time learning German because the grammar was not presented in a systematic manner: one only learns about the grammar pertaining to the individual words of the sentences they are currently learning. This may be ok for someone who knows the language, but not for a beginner or for someone who wants to know the rules for crafting sentences, which A+ German does a good job teaching. With A+ German I am able to understand German better thanks to the grammatical, building-block approach it provides. Most of the essential grammar, which is vital in mastering a language, seems to be covered in the main program and in the "grammar basics" section. The vocabulary is extensive too and there is this handy flashcard program for mastering it. You can also hear individual words in addition to sentences and can slow the sound down. The games and tests also helped me know how well I was advancing. Finally, A+ would be a better program if it included a complete coverage of grammar -- basically a coverage of all the tenses instead if just the main ones and of some other advanced grammatical structures. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A good value for the money
My daughter enjoyed this program. She learned a lot of different words. The animations are clever and she enjoyed completing the spaceship to get Quixel home.
This is a good program to build a foreign language vocabulary.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware!
I thought this would be good for my students until I tried it out myself. First I tried the Italian. When I discovered that they translated "potato chips" as "microchips", I was surprised. In telling time, they expressed the correct feminine plural but displayed the incorrect masculine singular "il due" for 2:00. Now for the French...I learned that "potato chips" were "eclats" as in "paint chips". Wrong chips both times folks - and good luck in a restaurant! I stopped there. It's a shame they never got a native speaker to check it before releasing this as an educational item. They did get native speakers to read aloud the vocab lists however. That's the one-star part. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Now you can learn a new language with the award-winning method used by the U.S. State Department to train diplomats. Proven effective by NASA astronauts, Peace Corps volunteers, and millions of students worldwide, the Rosetta Stone Language Library teaches new languages faster and easier than ever before.

We all learn our childhood language by associating new words and phrases with the world around us. The Rosetta Stone method replicates this process by presenting vivid, real-life images to convey the meaning of each new phrase. Instead of translating, memorizing, and studying rules of grammar, you actually learn to think in the new language. Vocabulary and grammar are integrated systematically, leading to everyday proficiency. It's the natural way to learn.

The Rosetta Stone Explorer contains 22 lessons for beginning learners with nearly 900 real-life images and phrases spoken by native speakers. It develops all key language skills--listening comprehension, reading, speaking, and writing--while its systematic structure teaches vocabulary and grammar naturally, without lists and drills. Includes previews, exercises, and tests for every lesson, with automated tutorials throughout the program. (Ages 6 and older) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars it's okay................be prepared to purchase more !
EHH...........this program is quite good, and a person who studies the entire curriculum will doubtlessly become quite adept at whichever language he chooses. The only problem is that one must be prepared to shell out a few hundred dollars more in order to buy all of the supplementary/subsequent materials. This program only offers a basic intro. You must purchase more and more cd's if you wish to continue. kinda dissapointing. I should save my money and enroll in a Berlitz course; probably cost about the same.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's not what you really need
The pronuncation is not Netherlands' Dutch. It sounds much more Vlaams, the Dutch dialect spoken in North of Belgium. It's not much a difference, but Dutch people from Amsterdam wouldn't always catch what you say.

Second, I don't think it's effective way to learn the language. Basically it's just sentences on the screen with pictures, you read, you hear and you try to remember. It doesn't require you to have any language as a basis. However, I would prefer more explanations of grammar which make clear how language works, and more live dialogs from which you can learn how to interact with people, rather than dumb phrases like 'The boy is going to jump' with appropriate picture.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starter
This CD-ROM was a very good introduction to Dutch. It seems there are no really great language courses. This does pretty well. The pronunciation is good and they are linked to photos to build comprehension. I wish there were some explanations of grammar and sentence structure. You learn like a small child would learn a language. There is no english at all - no translations or explanations. you must deduce what the words mean from the pictures. It builds complexity at a good pace. I am happy with this item. But, It needs companion dictionary and grammar resources. Nevertheless, I have learned a lot of vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation and can recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rosetta Stone--Dutch
My 7 year old son and I are both thoroughly enjoying this program. I grew up in a dutch speaking home so the language is not new to me, but it is to my son. We have had the program for 2 days and already he his counting confidently to 10, knows his colors in dutch and a number of other words. Its natural approach to learning makes it easy to use, and the scoring/timing of each lesson gives immediate feedback. I would recommend this program for anyone interested in beginning to learn dutch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
Super software for the price

Covers all the elements to learn German

Very fun and engaging activities

I will highly recommend it, you definitely get a great value for a low price

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner and Refresher Course
For the low price, you definitely get your money's worth! The program covers numbers, telling time, basic words, sentences, colors, nations, foods, names of body parts, and more! I especially like that each word is pronounced, not just by one person, but by a man and a woman, so you get a little bit of variation on acceptable pronunciation. And it even has a feature where a word is first said by the software, then you say the word (you need to have a mic) and then you get to hear how your pronunciation sounds compared to how the software says it. There are tests, both easy and hard, which I personally enjoyed. And there's a game show type test option that is kind of cute and fun too. And all this is just on the FIRST of the five disks! The other disks cover such things as pronunciation tests (the software critiques how well you pronounce the words), an interactive picture Dictionary (Kind of like the Rosetta Stone Explorer series), and a cool game called "Who is Oscar Lake?" where based on how well you do will determine if you win the day or end up in prison.
While you'll not become fluent in German with just this software, you'll certainly be able to make your way around Germany just fine after using this software.
That's My Opinion, ut You're Welcome To It.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless, and rather [sad].
For starters, all the content offered would have easily fit on a single CD-ROM, so their offering so many disks reminds of bogus language courses from the past which had 30 or so cassettes or videocassetes, each with about 10 minutes or so of playback. Each area of the course is essentially worthless. To just describe one disk, the vocabulary disk has about 2,000 or so words almost randomly chosen. Very few of the essential words of the language appear, and instead hundreds of terms deal with country names and things you don't need to know your first days, such as cufflinks and redcurrant.

It is true that pictures and videos help remember words, but the images are thoroughly depressing and [sad] on many ocassions. For example, the woman in the "kiss" term looks like she is doing so forcibly, and in general any picture or video (one in about 30 definitions has a 2 or 3 second video) in which people of any age appear seem to either have a great dislike for the photographer, or for life in general. It is rather disturbing to see such suffering when one is trying to learn a new language.

The other disks are even more worthless, and everything has a depressing quality to it. Needless to say, I sent it back, and will instead try another product. I recommend staying far away from this one!

3-0 out of 5 stars For the price, this has alot to offer
There is alot missing from this program (and most German programs out there, in my opinion), but it has some nice features. The games are just flashcard practice, but fun nonetheless. The speech recognition on CD 3 is not as good as German Now! 9, but still helpful. The picture dictionary isn't terribly helpful.

The game on CD 5, Who is Oscar Lake, was what really made me want to get this. The concept is great, and after learning the interface and giving it time, it grew on me.

Having fun and maintaining your interest in the language is the best way to learn it. That is a strength of this program, in my opinion. I would recommend using this program as a supplement to a class, textbook, or mabye a better program, because it is not comprehensive enough to stand alone. But for a good price, why not go for it?

2-0 out of 5 stars not for a serious self education
I am a college student who was looking for software to help me learn german. I bought this because it was the first thing i came across. I can already speak french in addition to my native language english. The first cd will introduce you to a series of basic nouns, food, body parts, time, useful inanimate objects and colors. The second cd throws you into a sort of game, however even the instructions for the game are in solid german. The questions are not only german but very hard to understand, even after mastering the first cd. The speaker is too fast on the third cd (talk to me 3.0), and the interactive picture dictionary fails to have a decent selection of anything but nouns. I never played the last cd "who is oscar lake". All in all its an ok set of cds to help one memorize nouns. There are lots of games to play and fun ways to help one memorize. However there is absolutely no aid in german grammar. I actually had to look up, on my own, the very basics in sentence structure, such as object pronouns, definite and indefinite articles, verb conjugations and even simple prepositions necessary to give even the most banal of sentences cohesion. This software may be satisfactory as a supplement to help with nouns, but that is all, i would look to other companies for a self education. ... Read more

This product is really a disappointment. There are no menus and no lessons one, two, etc. On CD 1 you learn some basic words and then on CD 2 there is nothing but French. The other CDs are not much more help. I bought this program to learn French and now I'm considering not wasting my time, trashing it and starting again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Did not learn much
Instant Immersion French is poor when it comes to teaching you French. I was just unable to learn from this program unlike some other programs which have helped me. Beware this product, I would consider a different company's product over this one. I have also tried French Now by Transparent Language and found that it taught me French quite well.

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good; requires some self-motivation
if you're serious about wanting to learn a language, this is good starter stuff to learn how to speak. but it's not going to grab your hand and make you use it, and it's not as engaging as, say, grand theft auto vice city. (the "game" cd, oscar lake, is pretty lame.)

i own this and enjoy it, but i wouldn't recommend it for the casual student. i've taken real french classes and am not sure i'd recommend this to someone brand new to the langauge. bonne chance!

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
It should have got 0 rating. You could buy a English-French dictionary instead of buying this. This does not 'teach' you anything. Do not spend your heard earned money on this ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Learn to speak English through complete immersion. The Euro Method is an easy and simple way to learn to speak a second language. Based on the same techniques that allow a 4-year-old child to speak a language long before that same child can read or write, the Instant Immersion English CDs teach users to speak English quickly. The software provides interactive lessons that truly immerse users in the language. The two CD-ROMs enclosed are from EuroTalk, a European publisher of language-learning software. The two discs will take users from beginning to intermediate levels using fun and easy-to-follow methods.

The first disc in the series consists of fun and interactive lessons that keep beginners interested in learning English with state-of-the-art sound and graphics without burdening them with complicated and hard-to-use software technicalities. All sounds are recorded by native English speakers; topics include eating, traveling, and the home.

The second disc is the more advanced, and strengthens users' confidence with the English language. With extra-challenging lessons and quizzes, this software will help users become better English speakers. The awards system can motivate users to do well, and the program is constructed to record and monitor their progress. Topics include conversations, careers, the beach, responses, and lifestyles. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A fun way to immerse in English
This CD set is quiet user friendly for foreigners who already know some English, but need to hear the native accent more and to get some interactive simulation. I bought this for a friend in China who worked for a American firm, and she love it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
After reading the other review, I can say I was pretty shocked when I got the product and reviewed it. The program is definitely not for people who are trying to learn English. Perhaps it is better suited for people who are trying to improve pronunication or learn appropriate phrases.

Example: There is a module where the user is to identify parts of the car. The English voice-over says: "These are made of rubber and are filled with air". The user is to select the blue dot pointing to a tire. My cousin sat there not knowing what "rubber" or "air" meant, let alone know to select the picture of the tire.

Another "real life" example has the user observe a conversation in a restaurant. The conversation goes back and forth without any visuals other than the static picture of the waiter and customer. They go back and forth with, "Hello, how are you?" "I am fine." "What can I get for you?" "I would like a glass of water with ice, please."

Again, my cousin sat there looking at the screen, impressed with the voice-over but not learning anything about speaking English.

Very disappointing. The graphics are quite [disappointing], too.

5-0 out of 5 stars ESL Instant Immersion English
I am a college student who came from a different country to study english here in US. This program has been very helpfull to me, specially with my pronunciation and vocabulary. It is a fun way to learn. I hope that others who have simular problems like myself, with the English language, discover this program.
I told many of my friends and family about it, and everyone who try love it.

Thank you. ... Read more
