Without a doubt the best version
There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best version ever.

I will start with the breedz. There are ten breedz: Great Dane, Dalmatian, Mutt, Scottie, Poodle, Sheepdog, Labrador, Chihuahua, Bulldog, and Dachshund. Each breed has its own looks and personalities. Chihuahuas, for example, are small and can't be quiet, while Sheepdogs are big, fluffy, and could eat ten bowls of food if you let them. It is rather hard not to fall in love with one particular breed.

Once you have your puppy, you go to the Family Room, not a Playpen! From the Family Room you can go to the Kitchen, Backyard, Beach, Playpen, Desktop, Clothes Closet, or Toy Closet. Each scene is unique in its own way. For example, the Beach has waves, and you can pick up toys at the Toy Closet. Some scenes even come with their own toys.

When your dogz get older, they may fall in love and breed. These new puppies can have mutations. I had a bulldog be born with green eyes! There are many color mutations for eyes and fur, and you never know what may happen when you breed different breedz! The possibilities seem almost endless.

There is one annoying factor, however. The Carrying Case where you hold toys has been shrunk, and I mean SHRUNK. You can only hold about nine items, which can get a little annoying. Despite this, Dogz 3 is definitely the best version of Petz!

ONLY 95/98 Compatible! NOT XP/2000
This is a wonderful game, however everyone should know that they do not advertise that this is compatible with ANY other version of Windows other than 95 & 98. They do not claim that it will and they are unsure that they will update it. Also, this was written/supported by UBI Soft, but the current Petz are owned/supported by Broderbund, I believe.

Dogz 3
i love this game it has a lot of stuff to do and i love how it has voice rec.it is soo fun making new pups to see what they would look like.i think that it is ausume that u dont even need the disk to use it.

I got this a couple years ago, and I still enjoy it! I like to breed the dogs. The graphics are pretty darn good! I am looking forward to Dogz5. Pretty Kewl
I wasn't sure what to think after reading all of the reviews here on Amazon. Half are positive, half are negative. But when I finally received my game (ordered somewhere else) my experience was half-n-half also! The game was quite frustrating to install, as it kept asking me to install something that my dad and I couldn't figure out. But once it WAS installed correctly I had loads of fun. It's great to be able to have your own virtual pets to dress, feed, play with, and care for. A real puppy is probably even more enjoyable, but this game is wonderful if you can't have one. The new play scenes, like the Wild West and Gypsy Circus, are ok, but I personally like the regular kitchen, family room, and backyard better. You can also create your own playscenes using your own pictures. The Playscene Editor actually was very easy to use, telling you exactly what you needed to do to create the playscene. There is a wide variety of great toyz and accesories to use, and 10 breedz to choose from. (As well as a pig!) The voice rcognition works ok, but I haven't experimented too much with that. A big excitement that comes with this game is the ability to breed your dogz! It's usually pretty easy to make your petz fall in love (the Help section of the game gives you tips), and in a few days (not even a week) you have a beautiful new puppy that Mommy carries around with her! I love watching the pupz grow up. I would definitely recommend this game. Oh, but you won't want to buy it if you don't have much hard drive space because it requires a whopping 300 MB. :( As long as you've got the GIG, you should have the game!

Great American Game
This game is one of the best PC games I have ever had. You can adopt as many dogz as you want (but remeber you have to take care of your dogz everyday, or they will run away!)and there are 10 different breeds. Then when your petz grow to be Adultz they can have dogz of thier own, and the dogz apperance is a mix of both paren'ts triats. Then you can go to a Gypsy Cirucus and blow up balloons or Get a flea circus, or you can go to the beach for a fun-filled ay, or even the Wild Wild West where you can mmet the big Sherrif Dog. You can dress them in virtually anything, Helmets, Bows, Skirts, Mowhawks, you name it!! And there are all kinds of toys for your dogz too. You can go online with the dogz online gift package (comes with the game!!) and you can download different playscenes, or make yor own website of your pets. And with ViaVioce Recongition (not included) You can talk to your dogz and They will do tricks for you. If you have Cats 4 too, you can get the whole gang together and play. This game is great, and I dont think it could ever become Obsolite.

Dogz4
This is a great game. It is educational, beacause it teaches you responsibility, and its fun. I think people from about 7-12 would enjoy it. It doesn't crash your computer apart from the screen saver, but occasionally it does not run. I have Catz 5 too now, and I personally think it's better, but that may just be cos I don't have a real cat :-).

Better than Petz 5!
I don't have petz 4, but i want it! I do have dogz 5, but I think 4 is better even if there are only 10 breedz. I like how There is no Nursury in petz 4 when your petz have puppyz or kittenz when in petz 5 the babies have to stay in the nursury for a week. in this version, they can go places with their mom and dad (or another petz). And you don't have to win your toyz. You already have all your toyz in the toy closet when you first launch the game! In petz 5 you have to win your toyz in the mini-games. And most of the time you keep winning the same toy or treat or whatever over and over. So I would definately buy petz 4! Don't waste your money on the other versions!!

Yuck
I was not satisfied with this game.

There are no new breedz, unless you count pigz. Sure, these pigz are cute, but they aren't dogz, so I don't see where they came from. You can't breed them either. This is unfortunate.

There are new clothes, but they don't have complete outfits! For example, you get a knight's helmet, a knight's pants, and possibly a knight's socks, but no shirt. How is your dog supposed to be a Knight of the Round Table with no shirt? In fact, many shirts are missing from outfits. It's ridiculous!

You have new toys too. I have to say, I don't have many problems with the toys. Some are really neat, but the roach motel to get rid of roaches doesn't work. The dogz play with it and the cockroaches never go into it. I guess it gathers fleas.

You also have new playscenes. These are pretty cool except for one thing: they lose their toys. For example, the Circus has a cannonball, and the Snowscene has a sled. Both of these toys were gone the second time I opened the game. How are you supposed to enjoy the toys then? Disappointing, is it not?

You also have voice recognition. Too bad it doesn't work! It is annoying to get it installed, and it is even more annoying to get it to work. Then you finally get it to work and your dogz think you are saying "Sit" when you said "Stay". All in all, voice recognition is useless and I can't get it to work properly.

Finally, you have bugs, and I'm not talking about cockroaches. I mean computer bugs. The food dish bounces around when your petz jump or walk toward it, so they never get to eat. The dogz don't drink from the water bowl. Like I already said, toyz disappear from the playscenes. Playscenes you make in the editor may not work properly.

Basically, the only way to enjoy this game is to go online and download a thousand new breedz. I don't see why you should bother. This game is just like Dogz 3 except that it gets old quick and it is full of bugs. ... Read more

Doesn't install on Windows XP
My 8 yr. old son received Pikachu PokeROM for a gift, and we were unable to install it. When it prompted us for the location of the Pokemon Sanctuary files, it complained that there wasn't enough disk space (our system has 20 GB free). He is very disappointed and it is too bad that Mattel did such a terrible job testing this product.

A world never seen before!
As I first explored the Pokerom, I thought WOW! This is the best in the world! It's awesome. A pokemon sanctuary too!!!!

Pokerom
My son received a pokerom as a gift for his 6th birthday. Every time he tries to enter the Pokemon Sanctury, we get a message on our computer that there is an error on the disc and the program shuts down. The message also states that if the problems persists that the vendor of the program should be contacted. There is a phone number on the package, however, it is not a toll free number. I do not believe that I should have to pay long distance charges to discuss problems on such a small program.

I have been trying to locate customer service on-line but I have been unsuccessful.

This has been very disappointing for my child who is a very avid Pokemon fan.

Disappointed. Lacks variety and enjoyment
My son, far too young at 4 loves pokemon. This has disappointed all of us because It is far too difficult to even facillitate guesses. The levels are very difficult and lack fun. Its too bad it isnt more animated. Normally, children of all ages can at least guess at these answers. But there is no room for mistakes. Im sorry that I bought two of these.

Pikachu PokeRom
The various PokeRoms (Pikachu is my son's favorite) are a wonderful way to combine a child's interest in the Pokemon phenomenon with a simple introduction for a child to the use of a computer. It is a wonderful way to play with your child, while at the same time helping the child become interested in a learning game. The most fun part, however, is simply the process of collecting the many Pokemon characters in PokeRom form and adding them to the Pokemon sanctuary. Talking max Version 2.0
You want a pet but don't want the hassle of pet care, what do you do? Well you might want to check out Talking Max 2 by Lernout and Hauspie and enter the world of virtual pets. Talking Max 2 is easy to install and you'll be up and running in now time flat.

The application comes with a tutorial that will show you how to make Max talk and work. The tutorial is a definite must if you are going to get this application to run correctly. The configuration is easy and the software does come with a microphone.

The microphone is small and easy to find a place for; the small drawback is distance and location. I found that if I turned my back to the microphone Max had trouble understanding commands. A better more wide range microphone would ease this problem.

While the application is cute and fun to have around, for the home business computer this might become a distraction. Children will certainly enjoy themselves and this software does make a great gift. With a few minor adjustments I can see this product in a great number of households.

Beware! Only old-fashioned tray-type CD-ROM drives for this!
I bought about 7 of these cool new Pokemon CD-ROMs for my son, and after I got them, I discovered that they will not play in the newer, slot-type CD-ROM drives (i.e. an iMac). So, as long as you have the old, tray-style, you're all set. But we were pretty disappointed because we can't play them on the computer with the best graphics.

Nothing to do!!
This CD Rom is very boring! There are only 3 things to do. You can play a trivia game ( it's very short ), look for Pokemon (It's too easy! It took me about three minutes.), and clicking on things. I even tried getting another Pokemon CD Rom but it wasn't any better. The only things different are that now you look you two Pokemon and you have a few more questions on your trivia game. Even with all the Pokemon CD Roms, I don't think it would be any more fun than with just one. Save your money and buy a better CD Rom. PS Sorry Pokemon fans but this game is a let down. Try looking under Pokemon figures, and Pokemon video games. They are much more fun to play with!

Beware
I just bought this for my 4 and 6 year olds. They love Pokemon and I thought it would be great for them to explore and print out the characters. Even though the age is geared towards 1st-5th grade I thought there'd be enough to print and watch. Not so. Beware if your buying for young children you'll be disappointed. It also doesn't have a lot on it. It's quite limited.

YAY FUN!
Ok, ... Oddballz has no "Voice recognition" or clothes because your daughter has Petz 4. Oddballz was made around the same time as Petz 1 and petz was like that without all the fancy stuff ... Oddballz is the coolest! IT HAS CRAAAZY PETS AND TOYS! It's a lot of fun, buy it now but if you're not sure go search on the internet for "Oddballz Demo" and get the demo to try it out. This is so FUN! (Note: I'm 12, so it's a kids review if you're getting it for your kid :)

Oddballz aren't fun!
My daughter has the game Petz and Oddballz is way much more worse than that. There is no voice recomendation, no other play scenes than the play pen, no breeding, no clothes, I have talked to my daughter and I definately agree, This game is boring!

Oddballz is a cool game but there is some stupid parts in it
I like the game and everything but it gets kinda boring I think if they were ever to make a Oddballz 2 I would hope the would make it so the oddballz would interact with each other that's why I rated it 4 instead of 5 stars .But other then that it is a cool game ! BUY IT ! You wont regret it.

I have the demo version of oddballs, but I have managed to download all the Oddballz off the Internet. I have been dying to get this program for a long time, but I've never bothered. In this game, you get 13 Oddballz which you must care for as they grow into adults. There are several toys, including the transformer, which lets you turn your Oddballz into animals, the atomic ball, and the pop box, which lets you play music that your Oddballz can dance to. Each Oddball has its own poison, allergic, and favorite flavor for its food and treats. You can paint the Oddballz, too. Talking MAX rocks
Its old school but MAX was fun to play with!!

Talking Max- thumbs down
I purchased this program two days previous to writing this review (however, not from your online store, so you have nothing to be blamed for) and chose to review it because I feel that my money has been wasted in doing so, and I would like you to know my personal views on this program before buying it yourself. Talking Max is a voice-recognition program where you use voice commands to opperate and control a cartoon parrot. Oh yes, I should mention that there is a microphone included in the package, which wasn't fully brought to my attention when purchasing the item at the time, so I had to drive all the way back to return a microphone that I didn't need. The program itself, however, is a very great idea, but what is not clearly explained on the box (but will be told to you now) is that Max can not handle just any old voice command, but instead, specific phrases that he recognizes. What is also annoying, is the fact that it can not clearly destinguish the difference between these phrases, and for me kept on opening the help screen or asking if I wanted to quit the program over and over again, not to mention the fact that it keeps trying to sign you on-line every time you open the program. What a hassel!! Untill speech recognition can be improved, games such as this are a long ways away from being enjoyable to work with. ... Read more

Creatures: A Unique Game To Be Sure !
Where to begin ? Okay practicality first: Creatures the first game, is Win95, so if you have Windows 98 or up it probably won't install. Unless you have WinXP I think. Creatures 2 will install though, and Creatures 3. At least, they did on my PC, which is Windows 2000. However, I've played all three, because I began with the first Creatures game on my Mac.

I fell in love with "Creatures" for a lot of reasons: they are cute; they REALLY seem alive (to the point they are like pets; and I actually got sad when my first norn began to get old and ill much to my embarrassment & surprise), and they are so cute ! They do cute, unexpected things. Example: my first norn Kiki loved to watch the bees buzz around the beehives (norns eat things like carrots, honey, flowers) even though they'd sting her; then she'd turn straight to me (they make it so they turn to look right AT you; weird !) and frown sadly.

Or when another norn player (search the 'net for norn or Creatures and you will find a lot of homemade websites with homemade items for them -- toys, food, medicine...) made a trampoline for norns -- oh MAN was that funny. Now they couldn't have been programmed this way, cos this wasn't invented yet ! But they'd trip the trampoline lever and go flying through the air -- and the range of expressions on their faces was priceless. Some were scared, some were ecstatic, some were puzzled as could be. It was priceless.

ANyway you get the idea. For more technical types, the norns have biological data you can keep track of. For computer techie types, you can breed norns and try to make new genomes etc. Also you can make things for them to use in the game. The official website has free downloads and advice to help you with all this.

As for the game itself: it's about life ! Very good for kids or for anyone with a nurturing instinct. You hatch an egg, inside which is a baby male or female norn. They come in different colors etc. They sort of look like the gremlins when they were nicer. They crawl, then toddle around, learning about Albia, the world they live in. They learn to eat, play, and can learn language from a computer upstairs. Keep them away from 'bad' plants or they might get sick and even die. After about an hour, a grendl hatches; he's scary at first, but they have their personalities too, some are worse than others. Usually though they are snotty and slap the norn or follow him around spreading germs on him unwittingly. Bottom line: Keep norns and grendl apart. At least there's only one of him !

In the first game there's a desert island, (they get there by submarine ! [...]) a hot air balloon, there's just too much about this game to go into here but trust me it's fun.

For small kids you might want to get the kids' versions instead (Creatures Adventure, Creatures Playground; no grendl and norns don't die, just play dressup etc.), as some kids think grendl is too scary or mean. (Also, when they grow up they can 'breed'; they simply walk by each other and there's a kiss-pop noise but no visual; but later the female lays an egg. I don't think it's a big deal but my aunt didn't want her grandchild to read about hormone levels etc. since you can track those in their health kit. Kind of an individual call there. But there's nothing 'dirty' about it in any sense and no visual at all the egg just appears later). Then again when I was on the Creatures newsgroup there were a lot of grade schoolers in there who love Creatures, and didn't seem fazed by reading about rising estrogen in their norn etc (probably went over their head).

Creatures 2 is just as fun; something they kept in both games is the point of view of the norn. This means when you click on the 'eye' on the toolbar you see what it's seeing. Know how you talk to a toddler or puppy and THINK it's listening but can tell it might not be ? Wouldn't you like to know what they are really looking at or thinking about ? In Creatures and Creatures 2 you can see. It's usually NOT whatever you are trying to teach them. haha

Which is the downside -- sometimes it can be frustrating -- they forget words you taught them and even forget how to eat ! They are like little kids in that way, you have to really take care of them. But the upside is they're so cute to watch play.

Creatures 2 has a larger world, a new being called an ettin who just kind of wanders around harmless, and thanks to the world being bigger you don't see grendl as often. However the norns can now fall off upper levels, and even drown ! But, get things from user websites and from the official site to help with that (bridges, extra puffer fish to save norns from the water etc.) and you'll be fine. The norns aren't as cute I don't think but at least you can play this one on your system. They have more facial expressions in C2 but also they can get sicker easier it seems like. But they seem to live just as long. Norns go thru life stages and even go bald or get grey hair !

Creatures 3 I didn't like at all. They turned it into a 'survivor' type game ! They had pirhanas, sharks, and norns can get sucked out into space through a door ! It's a big spaceship ecosystem instead of a planet. You can't pick things up to carry from one part of it to another very easily to give your norn (say he's trapped somewhere w/no food) and worst of all you can't see what they see any more. I had no use for C3 at all -- makes a nice coaster though.

Creatures = AWESOME!
This is the BEST series of games ever! I'm Lindsay, your host - oh, wait. This isn't an infomercial.

In Creatures (1), you take care of the Norns and keep them safe from the Grendels. (Actually, you can train the Grendels to be nice to the Norns.) There are about 5 breeds in the game (In C1 bought by itself there's 4, but the Forest and Ron norns are in the Life Kit included with the trilogy. YAY!) - The Banana Norn (which is not banana-like at all), White-Haired Norn (My FAVORITE!), Horse Norn, Ron Norn, and Forest Norn. There are also the Grendels, which are green and ugly. They hit your norns normally and are supposed to spread disease (though my norns have never gotten sick from a grendel...), but as I said, you can train them.

Creatures 2 is more difficult than C1, because of two things: the norns can fall off cliffs or bridges and drown, and number two: THE NORNS ARE SOOO STUPID!!! A norn is about as likely to eat the food as it is to eat the clouds. Actually, the norns seem to love trying to eat the clouds. Hmm. Anyways, the breeds are the Hebe Norn, Emerald Norn, Pixie Norn, and included only in the Life Kit included with the trilogy, Golden Desert Norns. (If you put a certain chemical in them, they dance, it's really neat!) There's also a new species, ETTINS! They are little guys with white hair who live in a swamp. They look sort of like a kind of cute troll. They are so cute! *is overwhelmed by the cuteness and faints*

Creatures 3 is kind of disappointing. While the new graphics for the norns and grendels are cute (I don't care for the new ettin ones), the norns no longer rely on you at all. The only time they notice you is when they want to slap you. Argh! They teach themselves to eat, etc. And they're so obedient, it's scary. They do whatever you tell them to. *shudder* And you can just walk them around now by clicking! I mean at times that is convenient, but come ON! Where's the FUN in having them do it all themselves?! *pant, pant*

Creatures Trilligy is Good
I like Creatures trilligy. Creatures and Creatures 2 need work.
I wish I could hold my Norns hand.And in Creatures I wish the wourld was bigger. Creatures 3 is great! No conplants about that. Thouh I don`t reckemed it to 5,6,7,and some 8 year old children.It might be to coplicated.

Creatures 1 good. Creatures 2 awesome. Creatures 3 annoying.
Although I don't own the trilogy, I own all the games seperately and can tell you that Creatures 2 is the best.
Basically, you hatch these cute little creatures called norns. You can name, take photos and raise your norns.
Your norns live in a world called Albia which is covered in all sorts of strange wildlife and contraptions.
After you have named your norns, you can start to teach them language. You can use the learning machines to do this or you can pick up an item and wave in front of their face and type in what it is.
Your norns can speak, play, eat, drink and even express their feelings e.g: Luke crowded or Amy scared.
The amazing thing about norns is the fact that their behaviour is not programmed into the machine. They are arguably alive.
Norns are basically like 2 year olds (But much cuter).
Every norn is unique which makes breeding very interesting. The species will actually evolve after several generations because occasionally when two norns breed, there are genetic mutations which can be harmful or beneficial to your norns.
Norns have their own working biochemistry and DNA which can also be very interesting.
On Creatures 1 & 2 you have kits to help you. Owner kit, health, science, observation, chronicles, breeding and ecology kit.
On creatures 2 & 3 the world of albia has a full working ecology including weather, seasons and other things. The Norns lifespan can be anything from one second to 15 hours( maybe more). Don't expect to be easy though. The vicious Grendel species can hit, infect or even kill your norns as well as lots of other horrible bacteria.
The graphics on this game are nice and colourful and it is presented well.

Very good software. Requires thought!
This is a VERY good piece of software. (Wonderful if you don't want all the "ick" of an aquarium but want the fish!) With a little bit of thought and care you will have more fish on your hands than you know what to do with. It is NOT a screen saver so if that is what you want look elsewhere. If you are looking for a great A-Life sim though this is probably the best one available right now. There are plenty of websites available to help you if you're having trouble caring for the fish. Don't give up when it gets a bit hard. That's what makes life interesting!

Good program- very realistic
I like this program a lot. The fish are pretty realistic in their actions and appearance. The program is also realistic in that it is very much like a real aquarium. You have to feed the fish, change the water, clean the filter and so on. You also have to be careful not to overcrowd the tank. If you do it right, your fish will breed and you can raise their babies. It would be pretty good practice for maintaining a real aquarium.

Not all THAT great
Well, when I first got the product, I was on it all the time, but there are a lot of things you need to watch constantly, and you need alot of patience. You're fish level runs out quickly, and the ammonia level in the water so much in a day that all your fish become ill, no matter what you do. So if you have free hours a day, I guess that this product would be great.

Great software!
You don't really need to read the book before using this software, but it IS fairly complicated and so it takes a bit of patience. The thing to understand is this "game" is just like taking care of a real aquarium. There are only two pieces of software that have ever kept my attention and interest for more than 2 weeks, and this is one of them! There is no end to this game and I don't want there to be its a great replacement for those who don't have the room or money to have a real aquarium. (If you get into trouble like the previous reviewer instead of panicing try going to the many, many fan sites out there. They have information from care and general maintance of your tanks to cheats that will give you unlimited fish.) Great software, well worth it!

BEWARE
My daughter, who aspires to be a marine biologist, received Aquazone as a Christmas gift. During installation the program asked if we wanted to add fish and accessories to the aquarium and we said yes. After adding quite a few items our daughter realized she had too many. Unable to find a way to remove them she deleted that aquarium so she could start over. When she tried to add fish to a new aquarium she was told she couldn't because the original fish weren't there. Even after uninstalling it and reinstalling it we were unable to use the fish. Granted, we did not read the instructions in the program before adding fish to the tank but this was because we weren't offered the opportunity prior to being asked if we wanted to add fish to the tank. We visited the aquazone website and in the FAQ it indicated that once the fish were gone they are gone. We contacted tech support by e-mail and they did provide information to get the guppies back but not the speciality fish. My daughter is very disappointed. Beware! ... Read more
