5-0 out of 5 stars Too bad these aren't being published anymore......
I own all three levels of this: Primary (for grades K-3), Intermediate (for grades 4-6), and Advanced (for grades 7-9).

These are standardized tests which parents administer at home on the computer. They will measure your child's aptitude and performance in math, language arts, science, and social studies. They will also measure your child's IQ.

These tests are not boring fill-in-the-bubble types of answer sheets. They have colorful graphics, unique characters which introduce each test, and music.

You may use these with *all* your children, giving these cd-roms multiplied value; a one-time purchase of each level is all you need for all your kids.

Please understand that, if you get test results you are unhappy with or don't agree with, there are many variables which could have contributed to those results. I've used these for several years; most years produce accurate results, but a couple of times the results were definitely *not* accurate. For example, one year my middle child's IQ tested at 79! This is slightly above retarted! I *knew* this was wrong. The instructions clearly state that this type of thing can happen; because of this, test results are best guaged over a couple of years (you may test your child every six months if you choose, except the IQ portion, which is tested only once per year).

Your child needs to be able to use a mouse to use these tests properly. Mental illness or other states of mental or emotional disturbance will *not* be diagnosed with these tests.

The cd-rom comes with a handbook for parents. It gives instructions for loading the program, using the program, how to read test results, description of the different tests, description of how the publisher developed the tests, FAQ, and troubleshooting. Please read the handbook thoroughly before administering the tests.

I have been extremely pleased with these tests. You can choose to print a shortened version of the results, or a *very* detailed analysis of them. This feature is extremely helpful, especially the first few times you use them. I am surprised they aren't being published anymore, because they are well worth the retail price of ....

These will operate on both the Windows and Mac platforms.

4-0 out of 5 stars Know your child's strength and weaknesses!
This program is a great way of testing a child's performance in all the essential subjects in school. The test results provide a detailed analysis of your child's progress with grade equlvalents, with percentiles and standard scores. This testing is done through a multimedia game approach and in which your child is actually having fun playing while being tested. I highly recommend this program Skills test (K-3) and the Skills test (4-6). The assessment portion is informative and fairly accurate. ... Read more

But the entertainment doesn't stop there. Join Sabrina and friends for five fun and wacky arcade-style games set at the Greendale Mall. Based on the hit TV show Sabrina: The Animated Series, it's up to you and Sabrina to set things straight and save the day. 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but seems hard...
My little 4 year old sister got this game for Christmas last year. She loves it! She wouldn't stop playing it, but insisted that I came on with her as she found some of the games quite hard. She likes Fisher Price Pet Shop the best because she can work it on her own, but doesn't like Barbie Super Sports because she can never win the races. She enjoys them all the same.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not appropriate for pre-school children!!
These games are simply too advanced for smaller girls.
For instance, one of the CDs is a Barbie Movie Studio. The child is to first enter casting, then wardrobe to dress the character. Once she has done that, she is to enter the scene editor where she constructs a story. Next, it is off to editing where she is to crop and splice certain scenes to construct her move.
Ages 4-9?? No, I don't think so.
The rest of them simply aren't much better.
I can see where it might be fun for older girls with advanced reading/critical thinking skills. For your preschooler or first/second grader, it is a complete waste of money. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Creative problem solving techniques and examples
The Creative Thinking CDROM teaches what I would call "creative problem solving in a structured way". Their concept, Advanced Systematic Inventive Thinking (ASIT), describes a few specific new ways at looking at problems to identify solutions. Lots of good examples. It does not, however, address creativity in an artistic sense. The enclosed book and introductory lessons are very illustrative, although the two repeat essentially the same information. There are 12 "games" (situational puzzles/problems) to solve. Although this is billed as the professional edition the selection of problems and use of cartoons makes this suitable for older children (teenagers). Humor is used to urge you to try again when you do not get the problems right. The problems are somewhat challenging, the solutions are not obvious. Consider this an investment to add some new "tools to your toolbox" for the next time a problem stumps you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars learning fun
This educational program is great for the child that would rather be playing vidio games than learning on the computer.
As a parent the the 4CD set is mostly fine. The CodeHead CD is
one I recommend that the parent play first, I wasn't thilled
with the way it points out wrong asnwers, I thought it was rather rude. The other 3 CD's are challenging, creative and most important your child should loved it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Buy
Three cd-roms are included with this package: Fisher-Price Ready for School Kindergarten, Math Blaster, and Jumpstart Spelling. Installation for all three is very simple.

My three-year-old son enjoys these, especially the Fisher-Price one. It teaches early reading and math, colors, shapes, time, sizes, matching and more. It is a cute program with good graphics. I had to go through the games with my son at first, but now he can work through them on his own, calling for help only rarely. We especially liked the ice cream shop---very cute.

The Math cd-rom features green space creatures which are cute enough---(though I personally don't care for space aliens, these are not offensive to me)---they look like green people. The addition feature is nice because it allows the child to create problems that show the answers along with visual representations. (It is really quite easy to do.) Most games on the math disk require some occasional help from mommy as it tends to be overdirective if activities are not completed. All in all, the math program is a great reinforcement tool. My son likes it, but it is a little difficult for his age--probably better for a four or five-year-old. Our favorite feature is an adorable counting song for counting by ones, twos, threes, fives, and tens which is set to a catchy little tune. He has the whole thing memorized.

Trust me on this one: the Spelling program is too advanced for a three-year-old. I went through it with him once. He really enjoyed it. He gave the answers and I clicked and dragged. He was able to correctly answer which letter went in the space to spell each word. All this was wonderful, but I became rather bored. It is a good program for practicing spelling, the idea behind it is great, and it is nicely set up; it just takes tooooo long to complete for an adult attention span. (: My son would love to do it by himself, but it is too advanced for his newly-acquired mouse skills. A child will need to have exceptional mouse control and patience to work alone.

Overall, I am pleased with this purchase, because it is very educational, fairly easy to use,(even for a toddler), and a great value. There are tons of different games. It is sure to provide your child with hours of learning fun. I recommend this to everyone with children age 4-6---or younger, if you are willing to invest a little time helping your little one.

This program is a nice buy, but Disney Learning Toddler (The Winnie the Pooh cd) is even better if your child is only three or four. It is much more interesting, and my son can do it on on his own. (See my review.) Check it out at Amazon. I recommend getting both. ... Read more
