1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Be Very Wary
The trusted leader in children's learning really blew it with this product. I bought SS Baby deluxe, SS Preschool and SS Toddler for my 2 and 4 year olds. My little girl was SO excited to play these games but Uh-oh. The small print says several of the disks DON'T WORK on Windows 2000 and they were developed for XP before the program was released so it is shaky on XP machines too. The bottom line - we can't run most of the CD's - some will install but not play. Some won't give the sound, some won't install. Very disappointing. Also Encore (who produces product) says on their web that they don't do refunds - you have to go back to the original store. Also they don't have an 800 toll-free number so you have to pay for support calls. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED FROM SESAME STREET. I WILL BE VERY WARY OF ALL THEIR PRODUCTS NOW. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Talks to you!
We got this computer game for our nearly 3 yr old son, and he LOVES how it says his name! His name is "Baker" so I would assume that if you child does not have a common name that won't make any difference. I didn't actually set this game up, my husband did, so I can't tell you how the name deal was done, but when Big Bird talks to Baker (In Big Bird's voice, not my husband's saying "Baker")he just goes ape. The games are fun and do-able for him. Good choice.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
My daughter received this as a gift. When we went to play the game the 1st time it did not work. We had to return the 1st cd and wait for a second to be sent to us. When we received the 2nd cd it worked better but still not like other games we have. It is sluggish and skips parts. I had higher expectations of this product - for instance that it would work. We were only able to play it once. The other times we attempted to play the game it would freeze up my computer before we even got through the introduction.

3-0 out of 5 stars No good on Windows 95
I could not install this program on my son's computer (my old computer - Win 95, Pentium II 233, lots of RAM). The program would run and I would not get any sound. I upgraded my audio drivers, still no sound. I contacted customer support and they could not resolve the problem either. So I installed it on my newer laptop and it runs fine, but I would rather that he did not play on my laptop. Otherwise it is a good game and my son loves it.

3-0 out of 5 stars mixed good & bad
The art cd in this pack is great. You can paint, do stickers, and costumes--all fun and creative. The numbers & letters games are horrible. Essentially the child is wandering around on Sesame street and gets to make a bunch of stuff repeatedly move by clicking on it. There aren't really any games or play of any value embedded in this aimless & boring wandering. Worse, there is a tv in every home the child visists (Big Bird, the Count, etc) & this tv is the main attraction--my son would go to the room (in the game) and ask to watch tv. Just what I needed. Somehow I disabled the video compont so now all the tvs are broken--this helped some, but I was disappointed in Sesame Street enough to get on here and wirte my first review!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it! Well-suited for my growing toddler
This is a must-have program. Better material than the Disney Learning Toddler which is still good. My toddler loves it and finds new things about it as her learning interests change. We discover new screens every once in a while too. The name feature is very cool. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Reader Rabbit is MUCH better!
I can assure you that this game is not worth the money. My child is 2 and is pretty good at the mouse and keyboard and he loves Sesame Street. But he hates this software. It is very difficult to get to the different games and it is very confusing for the child. Get Reader Rabbit toddler....there is no need to use the clicker on the mouse instead the keyboard or the movement of the mouse is the interaction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Toddler Game for 12+ Months
My daughter loves this game and plays it almost every day. She started when she was about 12 months old and was able to do a lot of the activities.

The games are divided into mouse-based and keyboard-based games. What's nice about the mouse games is that she can wiggle the mouse around and get positive feedback. The mouse games consist of unwrapping presents and simple coloring games (just moving the mouse colors things in.)

All of the original Sesame Street characters and actors perform the voices in this great game. There are sing-along songs, letters shapes and numbers, and lots of other educational activities.

As far as pressing the Windows key, there is a shareware program called WinKeyKiller that you can get from download.com that you can run before playing this game that will prevent the problem other reviewers are complaining about.

2-0 out of 5 stars You'll get sick of this one awfully fast!
This was our 14 month old's first computer game. At first we were so excited to watch her learn to use the keyboard, and thought the games were cute. One month later we are SO sick of this game, and our daughter gets bored with the games very quickly. The software has bugs that cause loud static during some of the games. There is not much variety, or creativity to the game design or writing. Unfortunately this seems to be the case with most of the sesame workshop products (other than videos) that we have tried. Spend your money on something else.

3-0 out of 5 stars decent but buggy
My 16mo son likes the keyboard games such as Peek a Boo. Most games are for slightly older children. It works OK but the MS keyboard button causes the program to halt when accidently pressed.

3-0 out of 5 stars entertaining
My 16 month old loves the keyboard interaction with some of the games. He'll need to grow into a few of the others. If you have a keyboard with the MS logo button it, for me, causes the program to stop working when the child presses it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Yay! Elmo is on an adventure in Grouchland, tracking down his best friend--his blanket! It's slipped out of his hands down Oscar's trash can, and he--like Alice following the White Rabbit--has to meet interesting characters and finish several missions in order to be reunited with it.

This software holds vibrant primary colors, sweet Sesame Street songs, and lessons on values that everyone can agree with. Parents will appreciate the conflict resolution skills that Grouchland builds, but kids will just love Elmo singing and dancing.

Installation was simple, and once in the program, frankly, we wished every navigation system was this intuitive. The program distinguishes the elements you can click on by having them sparkle when you move your cursor over them. And, no matter where the child is in the game, there's a green arrow that can lead them to the next spot. Throw in the Sesame Street humor (Elmo visits the Bad Humor sardine-ice-cream cart), and it's clear why this one is a winner.

A particular stand-out feature of this software: there's no wrong answer. When building a bridge to get Elmo across a mine shaft (yes, Oscar's got a mine shaft in his trash can), kids can choose from a series of different options, but none will be rejected. When he climbs a mountain at the end of the adventure, some of the ledges he needs to get to are occupied by sheep, but there are always plenty more to pick from.

One note of caution: Elmo in Grouchland has only a few scenes. We would have preferred that the gameplay go on and on, although we can also see the reward for young players in winning the game--getting Elmo his blanket--within a session or two.

Grouchland's core is its terrific messages within the storyline--much like the television show on which it's based. Elmo meets some sweet junkyard weirdos, for example, and they all wind up singing that "Beauty is where you find it." Elmo enchants through scenes like this, with his high-pitched voice calling to reunite with his beloved blanket. --Jennifer Buckendorff ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Great fun for even the very littlest music lover, Sesame Street's Music Maker has eight different fun-filled music-related activities. With Grover, Elmo, Ernie, Cookie Monster, and assorted other helpers along the way, every Muppet enthusiast is sure to have their favorite game to play (Ours was Sing-Along with the Muppets, where players choose the style to sing along with and pick from eight different songs to sing.)

Where else would we have the chance to sing Elmo's Song with the great Elmo himself? For a more physically active activity, there's Studio 543, where small fry can get up and dance with Grover and Elmo. For a guided tour of the world of musical instruments, check out Worldly Instruments, where players can hear what the instrument sounds like, and learn a bit about its history from the helpful Ms. Globe.

As with all Sesame Street software, the graphics are excellent, with bright colors and sharp images, and the sound quality is terrific. The icons are big enough for even the newest mouse user to click on with ease, and with the friendly Muppet hosts, this is a musical party your child will surely want to attend. --Jill Lightner ... 5-0 out of 5 stars my 16 month old sons absolutely favorite christmas gift!
The other reviewers have described the features, so all I can add is that the instrument sounds are studio quality, and your child if he/she is at all into music will ask for more and more of this. My son does not yet know how to use a mouse, so as a parent who sits through these games with him for up to 1/2 hour a day -- I love these muppets and don't tire of their adult appeal. No annoyance factor as compared to jump start baby, & no boredom factor like winnie the pooh and other disney offerings which are thin on activities.
The sesame street web site is also a fun place to play with your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kid loves this -- especially the musical instruments page
My kid likes the musical instruments page, where the talking globe describes the instruments, and the sesame street characters play them. I like the world of sound, but my kid doesn't like it very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding - entertaining, educational, and fun!
I can't say enough about how wonderful this software is. It has all of the quality we've come to expect from Sesame Street products - clear & colorful graphics, great sound, lots of activities, the humor and warmth of the Muppets - and then some. There are 8 different activities, all of which are entertaining and which keep my toddler engrossed (no mean feat, since he has the classic two-year-old's short attention span). My personal favorite is "Ernie's World," a Wayne's World parody in which Ernie shouts out silly words - flounder! coldcuts! underpants! - while one of his buddies tries to sing. My son is partial to the world of instruments segment, where you click on a musical instrument to hear its name & how it sounds and learn fun facts about it. (My two year now can identify such diverse instruments as a violin, a hurdy gurdy and a pan pipe.) I am particularly impressed by how fresh the software seems even after it's been played over and over; something about the way the Muppets interact with each other and the input coming from the child makes it seem as if they are right there with you, not canned or repetitive.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent music activity game for kids AND parents!
WOW! (and I mean that). This game is fantastic! All the Sesame Street humor, with really wonderful music and a lot of different activities. From Ernie's World (ala Wayne's World) where Ernie interjects funny words into songs sung by Cookie, Grover and Elmo to their hilarious disbelief (which had my wife and I on the floor laughing!), to Elmo's Music Machine (an endlessly replayable sampler/mixer of music snippets that let's kids put endless combinations of tunes together (an excellent learning tool! ), to Worldly Instruments where Elmo and Ernie play - in any combination - everything from Sitars and banjos to African drums and Trombones to, of things, a Hurdy Gurdy or a Theramine! As a musician and a parent who hopes to pass on the joy of music to my son and daughter, I could not believe our luck at finding this brilliant and wonderful product! My hat is off to Sesame Street with my endless respect and thanks! GO BUY THIS! WE ALL LOVE IT! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money.
Does not work on Windows 2000 or XP although their website says it works on 2000. Their support is TERRIBLE only offering a simple "we're sorry". I wish I had seen these reviews . . . Don't waste your money on any of Encore's stuff - it's junk. Buy the Jump Start Series instead.

Doesn't Encore know that Windows 98 is like 6 years old??? And they still sell this product???

1-0 out of 5 stars not for xp
IF YOU HAVE XP FORGET IT! MY 3 YR OLD WAS QUITE UPSET WHEN IT DIDN'T WORK. THEY SHOULD HAVE IT STATED IT DIDN'T WORK FOR XP

1-0 out of 5 stars Yeah, no sound for me too
The software is pretty much useless if you got XP at home. Since there is no sound nor manual, the only way your kid learns how to play is from the speech.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Sound Under Windows XP and No Fix
Encore claims that the software was written prior to Windows XP yet the software was released as a new title well after Windows XP was available. If you visit the company website they only apologize but do not offer a fix.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Activities, Poor Usability
I love the activities, but the poor usability makes it agonizing to play. Transitions, humor sequences, explanations, etc. are all very long (30-60 seconds), and you can't click through them. You don't even get a cursor until the sequence is done, and you can't Esc to exit the game. A minute is a very long time to go between clicks! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this if you have Windows 2000!
After much driver patching and updating, I managed to get all of the discs to install and play a little on Windows 2000, but the "Elmo's Preschool" and "Elmo Through the Looking Glass" discs will lock up our computer HARD (requiring a cold boot to fix) after 5-10 minutes of play. The "Sesame Street Preschool" disc hasn't locked up, but we can't hear any SOUND with it, so that sure doesn't make it playable either. My 33-month old son was very disappointed and keeps saying "Elmo's broken". :(

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for XP users
I was sooo excited to try this for my 4 year old. I went through all kinds of frustration trying to get Big Bird to talk...well, after many phone calls I was told that this game only works on some XP computers, not all and certainly not mine. Since it works on some, they are able to list XP as a requirement...this was a big disappointment. I was able to take it back...where I was told by the clerk that they simply took an older game and gave it a new face...and by the way, if only one disk will work with XP, they list it as compatible when the other two cd's in the package will not work for you. Bad software choice. ... Read more
