Amazon.com Review

Blend capitals with crime, and you've got the magic combination that makes geography cool. With its irreverent style, Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? is definitely a winner for the junior-high set.

Each story begins with a dispatched message from the Chief. In her typical, no-nonsense style, she tells you what you need to know: what was stolen, whom to look for, and where you're being sent to catch the thief. Kids will love the real-time video of the Chief's updates, as well as the cartoon-character types they meet along the way. The immediate purpose is to build a profile of the criminal, but the larger object is to learn the history of your destination spots.

The Carmen series has nice touches: the Chief urges rookie investigators to learn a little bit of the language, because "It always helps you do better." There are questions to answer, and at each new destination, the announcement information comes through in the appropriate local language--with a "debabilizer" that prints the message in English. If you get stuck at any point, you can request a guide who will give you a tour of your new land. A truly fun game that teaches kids the quirky and astounding elements of each culture they'll visit, Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? has a great deal to offer kids as they explore the cultures provided. --Jennifer Buckendorff ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?
This is a good game that will teach children about world geography but younger children may get frustrated with this game. It is really geared toward pre-teens and you have to listen closely to the clues in order to determine where is the world is Carmen. This game will work with Windows XP Home Edition but you have to run it in compatibility mode.

4-0 out of 5 stars Warning: It¿s not an easy game.
This game is a little frustrating for any child who cannot yet associate a continent with the following clues: kroner, Ho Chi Minh trail, outback, Sahara. I had to help out more than either of us would have liked. On the other hand, it's fun, so she is motivated to try. And she is learning a lot!

5-0 out of 5 stars Carmen has made my child a geography whiz!
I have a 10 year old daughter who I have seen spend, literally, multiple hours on our PC engaged in what I call "virtual globe- trotting" in an effort to find Carmen and her partners in crime.

Players use the Digiketch to piece together a composite image of the suspect as they unlock clues describing his/her appearance.(Once you get a complete image, you can issue an arrest warrant!)

There is a World Wiz Database that helps players learn more about the countries that the suspect may have visited. This game introduces foreign phrases, international travel, and problem solving skills in a way that no other medium could.

I highly recommend this game as a means by which a child's horizons can be greatly broadened.

5-0 out of 5 stars A first-class program.
I love this game. While chasing Carmen and her gang around the world, you come across funny characters, puzzling clues, interesting locations, and you learn a lot about geography and history at the same time! They did a magnificent job on this game - I wish I could find that missing last disk so I could install it again on my new computer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational And Fun!
This is simply a brilliant, but yet educational, game. It challenges childrens' (& adults') geographical knowledge, while incorporating strategical planning as well. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Are you ready for the Thinking Chair? It's Blue's birthday, and thatmakes for lots of mystery-solving fun. Formatted to resemble the populartelevision series, children have to find three clues to solve the biggermysteries: What does Blue want to give as party favors? What games will herguests play at the party? And what kind of cake does she like?

There's a whole slew of new characters to meet in Birthdayland, many games toplay within the party planning, and four different places to "skidoo" to.This is the most fun we've had with deductive reasoning in a long time. Withthree levels of difficulty that can be set for individual players during thesame game, it's entirely possible the toddlers will be the first to solve themysteries. As a guest at Blue's party, each person can also select a specialgift for Blue and design his own card. Grab your own Handy Dandy Notebook andjoin the fun. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Blue's Clues fans should really enjoy this!
My 2 year old son enjoys this game a great deal. It has a huge amount of content---with 4 complete Blue's Clues games. Along with that, there are little side games like finding noisemakers, drawing pictures, and completing puzzles. Some of those you have to hunt a bit for, but that's part of the fun! Steve is a big part of this game, which is nice, as a lot of Blue's Clue merchandise doesn't include him, and that always disappoints my boys---they are big Steve fans! I would say the age guidelines (ages 3-6) are just about right, but my 2 year old enjoys it anyway---just doesn't totally get how to hunt for clues. You can set the level of how hard you want it to be to find clues. Certainly worth the reasonable price!

5-0 out of 5 stars 3 Year Old Independent Fun...Forget the Clues!
I bought this for my son right before his 3rd birthday. After playing this game once, he has figured out how to navigate through the program and the computer without help.

Forget actually finding the clues because the fun part is clicking on the background objects in each scene to see what they do. (My son cracks up every time he clicks on the pig to see him dump his face in the mud and go "oink oink") Even the balloons pop if you click on them. Some of the games are appropriate for even a 3 year old too.

My son is learning how to use a computer and playing with his favorite character, Blue too. Maybe he'll get to the clues next year but for now, this keeps him well entertained when I'm cooking dinner or just needing a break!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best game for prescholers!!!!!
I have a 3 year old and a 4 year old. This game will keep thier attention for hours, taking turns and working together. It is great because EVERYTHING does something when you click on it. It keeps thier attention and they don't even realize they are learning. I am currently looking for more comperable games. Any suggestions?

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it, but a few gliches
My daughter (2 1/2) is an avid Blue's fan, and this was our first computer software purchase for her. While she enjoys it immensely, she is also frustrated by the wait time (she keeps telling Steve to hurry up and move into the next scene.) I am not very pleased with the sound quality. The songs go much faster than the graphics, thus Steve is finished moving well before the music is finished playing. Overall I find it engaging for her level and if you have the extra cash recommend it if your child likes Blue.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves this!! Very educational / never dull
My 3 yr old son loves this 2-cd rom game. It's very educational and it keeps his interest. He gets so excited when he finds the clues. Everytime I look he's playing this game. His alphabet & number comprehension has improved alot. 5 stars from me!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Cyberchase Carnival Chaos
As an avid fan of the show, I HAD to have this game, and now that I have it, I'm not sure what I think of it. It's kind of hard (I can only do two games on it), but, on the other hand, it's a lot of fun to see the charaters from my favorite show on here. (Especially Buzz and Delete- I really like them.) So, I think a die-hard fan should look into it, but be prepared: it's not as easy as it looks. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a pretty cool game
I like this game I have had it for a while. I stopped playingit but every once in a while I'll go back and play it, it's prettyadictive once you first play it and then after a while it gets old and then you go back and play it and you get addicted to it again. I like the people on how they are all different. The animation is great. The places you go is cool and it's just a neat game. It's very educational too .I recommend it for children 13 and under.

5-0 out of 5 stars USA all the way!
I received this product as a birthday present. I was really excited to try it, and so I did. Wow! This game is a blast! It is really fun! It teaches you about the USA. It also teaches you about being a detective and solving riddles. It also teaches you about spending your time wisely because as you travel around the USA, you use up fuel for your airplane. You're a detective and you're assigned a mission by the Chief (from the TV show). Something valuable has been stolen by one of Carmen Sandiego's crooks! You are the only person who can stop that crook. But the more cases you solve, the harder they get! Buy this product! Good luck, Gumshoe!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really interesting and educational!
I received this product as a birthday present. And I was veryexcited when I got it. I tried it right away. It was so fun! I thinkyou should buy it right away! It was very educational and challenging. This is more about what you do (I'll try not to give it all away). So, you are a detective. The Chief (like on the TV show) assigns a mission. Some person who works for Carmen Sandiego has stolen something and you are trying to catch the crook! You "fly" to the place where the thing was stolen and people pass by. You can click on them to ask questions about the crook. As you go along, you record some of the information about what the crook looks like and fill out a "warrant." You also ask the people about where the crook went and track the crook down. You can learn a lot about the United States from the clues that the people give you (like I did). You keep tracking the crook until you get to the place where the crook is. It's hard, too, because you lose fuel every time you fly to a place tracking the crook. When you are there, you look at the info you collected about what the crook looks like, and you try to catch them. The whole game is fun! You should buy it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational and Entertaining
This game is fantastic. My kids used to love educational games when they were younger, but went through a stage of disinterest.I think it was because they weren't challenged by the material or the graphics were too young. This game changed everything. They love it, and so do all of their friends. The graphics are cool. The competition is fun.The characters are realistic. The theme is very popular right now--spying and secret agent stuff. It is perfect for my eight year old, but my 6 year old son and 10 year old neice both enjoy playing it as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy & fun
My 3 yr old is pretty adept at the computer and loves Maisy so I thought this would be a good one for her.It is very easy and I'm sure others would argue it doesn't have any challenging and educations games like learning letters, instead it offers several matching type activities and coloring; about 6 games total that are very simple to navigate (toddler level). But while it isn't a strong educational game I like that she can run it by herself and isn't calling me for help every few minutes!Overall, a fun, simplistic game for when your three year old doesn't want to think real hard.

Amazon.com Review

Curious George stops getting into trouble in his Preschool LearningGames to direct young children in their own discoveries. This CD-ROM teacheskids shapes, colors, pattern recognition, rhyming, and more, while offering funanimation consistent with the beloved storybooks. Games such as star patrol, piefight, and jingles jukebox help up to eight different users develop new skills, and extras like the progress report help parents track their child'slearning.

This program stresses many of the same skills that other preschool softwareprograms cover, but with an additional element of challenge: the different skilllevels offer basic to advanced lessons that support continued learning and addto the longevity of the program. For example, star patrol not only supportsearly-learning concepts like shape and color recognition but also introducesgeometry--trapezoids and the like--a subject not ordinarily introduced topreschoolers. And, to keep the program fun, the games are smartly animated withhumorous, pie-in-the-face antics.

This CD-ROM may not cast George in his traditional mischievous role, but hedefiantly adds to standard educational-software fare with his fun and playfullearning activities. The animation is extremely entertaining--we see everythingfrom George getting sent into space to pies flying not only at onscreencharacters but also at players! The necessity of reading the directions alouddictates parental involvement, as do the parental controls, which include theability to track a child's performance. --Madeleine J. Miller ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars curious george ..laughing while learning!!
I bought this and my 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 boys they love it!!! the puzzles are great, star shooting game of shapes is great for hand eye coordination and the pie game is awesome they are learing letters, matching, size differentation, all the while laughing!

3-0 out of 5 stars Buggy
I bought this because my son liked another Curious George game, Downtown Adventure (which I highly recommend but the age range should be 4-8, not 3-6). This game is from a different company and is of very poor quality. The pie fight game crashes in the middle every single time we play, on two different computers. The jukebox game is incredibly slow to load, way too slow for a 3 year old to tolerate.

3-0 out of 5 stars navigation problems
We used this a few times. It has a design flaw, which is that you have to exit the game to get back to a place where you can make choices about what you want to do next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Encourages New Skills, Reinforces Others!
My just-turned-four-year-old *loved* this CD! We checked it out from the library, and after playing it with him, and seeing how much he learned & how much he loved it, we bought it. The Jukebox game encouraged the emerging skill of rhyming. The Star Patrol reinforced shapes, and encourged learning some new ones (hexagon, etc.). The Pie game was his favorite. This game encourged sorting (same, different, slightly different). We've played many a CD-rom, and this one, by far, is the easiest on parents. No annoying sounds or voices. And the animation looks just like the book, so it's familiar and soothing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lot's of fun
My 3 year old enjoys this game, except for the jukebox thing. The puzzles are fun, with 3 levels of difficulty and some added animation when the puzzle is finished. The fruit catch is a little bit difficult, but a great way to get a feel for using a mouse. I definitely recommend this game! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing to do!!
This CD Rom is very boring! There are only 3 things to do. You can play a trivia game ( it's very short ), look for Pokemon (It's too easy! It took me about three minutes.), and clicking on things. I even tried getting another Pokemon CD Rom but it wasn't any better. The only things different are that now you look you two Pokemon and you have a few more questions on your trivia game. Even with all the Pokemon CD Roms, I don't think it would be any more fun than with just one. Save your money and buy a better CD Rom. PS Sorry Pokemon fans but this game is a let down. Try looking under Pokemon figures, and Pokemon video games. They are much more fun to play with!

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware
I just bought this for my 4 and 6 year olds. They love Pokemon and I thought it would be great for them to explore and print out the characters. Even though the age is geared towards 1st-5th grade I thought there'd be enough to print and watch. Not so. Beware if your buying for young children you'll be disappointed. It also doesn't have a lot on it. It's quite limited.

Once you place a puzzle piece that works, the animals you have assembled come alive. It may rain, native music plays in the background (or not, the choice is yours), and once the whole puzzle is assembled, the creatures hop, fly, or crawl away into the rainforest. You have a choice of backgrounds, shapes, number of pieces, and difficulty. The combinations seem infinite. I have a graduate degree and find the game relaxing and entertaining. My daughter began playing the simpler puzzles at four years old, and it not only teaches and entertains her, but has led her to take an interest in Amazon issues. She became so intrigued with the frogs that she looked them up in her encyclopedia and learned about their habits and names, then asked us to purchase plastic replicas of endangered species to add to her animal collection.

Triazzle tests your ability to recognize relationships between objects, detail, similarities and differences, directionality (since pieces can be rotated to fit), and to do long range planning. If you are really stuck, you can ask for clues: however, anyone who gets into the habit of relying on clues, may find the puzzles too easy; if you avoid clues and use the timer, you will definitely find these puzzles entertaining and challenging, certainly worth the low price.
