5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a Batman Game that is educational and NOT violent!
Santa gave this game to my 5 year old son. My son loves Batman, so this game was a perfect fit. The graphics are great and very entertaining. There is NO violence of any kind. In order to complete the entire game, you must solve several task which require listening, observation and thinking skills. There are 3 different levels to vary the difficulty of the challenges. However, once you have solved the game, that is it. It is the same everytime. My son's don't seem to mind though, they just play it over and over. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Carmen Sandiego is a thorn in the ACME Detective Agency's side. A brilliant globe-trotting thief, she learned all of her best tricks in her days as ACME's greatest operative. Now, she has used those skills to steal a rare book about Marco Polo. It is up to her former partner, an untested rookie, and--most importantly--you, the player, to stop her.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? has been around for over a decade in various incarnations, and one look at its successful mix of educational content and mystery role-playing is enough to explain why it has endured. Focusing on geography and world cultures, the game pursues Carmen through Earth's major cities, introducing players to the languages, customs, and landmarks of their peoples along the way.

Like most mystery games, this one has a sedate pace, requiring players to look hard at each new cityscape and search out clues that will help the story unfold. This does not mean it is impossibly difficult--there is plenty of help on offer for whenever a detective is stuck. The clues themselves are generally based on true facts about the nations Carmen is visiting on her crime spree, reinforcing the lessons learned as the point-and-click world tour progresses.

By combining varied and beautiful landscapes with the thrill of the chase, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? teaches and entertains, seamlessly combining its educational content with its adventure component, and offering--if you keep your wits--the satisfaction of thwarting one of computer gaming's most notorious thieves. --Alyx Dellamonica ... 5-0 out of 5 stars very educational game not only for kids but for adults alike
i have this software about 7 years ago and my nephew was only 8 years old then but he just loved playing the game. he used to play it everytime he comes home from school that he soon got to learn about the different places in the world, learn about world geography:the peoples, cultures & products of the different countries. and most of all, he just loved catching the crooks and really had a fun time with the game. even his mother and my other sister also enjoyed playing the game with him. two years after that however, a virulent virus "killed" my software of carmen sandiego and so my younger nieces didn't get the chance to enjoy it as much as their older brother did. i've been looking for this kind of software ever since but i guess it was not just available here in our country (or maybe it's just very difficult to look for one here). i've found out that it is available at amazon.com and, boy, i'm so glad!

4-0 out of 5 stars very interesting
Even as old as the game is now, and how long ago I bought it, I still have the urge to play it every now and then. It is addicting and educational at the same time. It isnt too easy nor too hard which is why my little brother adores it, loving the cartoon-like characters that he gets to direct. Technically, the game is good. I had no trouble installing it on several different machines, and there were hardly any problems playing it. It's definetly worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars where in the world is camen sandiego
we love it. it is best camen sandiego until i got to mission six with my daughter. can anyone help get thought mission on mixing the liquid on mission six. we would be please if can us.
thank you
i love it

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
I've always been the BIGGEST fan of carmen stuff. When I came to this game I had a great day of fun. Even though this game only has like 7 missions they were very fun and exciting! The people from all the countries talked in very distinctive languages in respect of their countries. The plot of the game is fun and I hope you will enjoy this game as much as I did. I hope they make new carmen games or at least make a new plot of the origionals!

4-0 out of 5 stars Who in the World Doesn't Love It?
Before Broderbund software pops the question- ' Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?', what arises in one's head is ' Who in the World is Carmen Sandiego?'Cloaked in red, hat askew on her auburn cascade of hair, a malicious grin playing on her lipstick soaked lips, is the World's Queen of Crime- Carmen Sandiego. And as an Acme agent, it's your mission to snare the peripatetic pilferer and land her in the clink.
But that's no easy job- as Carmen, with a truckload of thirty- nine cohorts is out to steal everything in the world worth treasuring. Her notorious network has fifty nations in its clutches, and only the cleverest and most cunning agents the world has to offer can dare to ever match up their wits with her. Now the fun begins.
Carmen sends out one sidekick and he robs a country of an extremely prized monument, possession or landmark. Your Acme Chief then transports you to the scene of the crime, where the crook has vanished from. To catch onto the trail, you interrogate the local public on what the crook looked like, and where he was probably headed next. The colourful folk of the world answer your questions with indirect answers that act as clues to a certain nation. Also, their descriptions help you put together a picture of Carmen's crony. Thus, grabbing flights from country to nation with the click of a mouse, you hunt down the hot trail of the crook, knocking on the door of the beauty, sights and sounds and cultures of the globe while you're at it. Chat with the Chinese with the Great Wall of China and oriental music flowing in the background. Swoop down from the snows of Iceland to the desert sands of Egypt. All just sitting on your computer chair.
And finally, a place comes where the crook is roaming around and trying to mingle with the crowd, you look up the physical profile you've gathered, and gotcha! An arrest- and you've cracked the case. After another thirty-eight challenging and entertaining cases that take you across the savannahs, up Mayan pyramids and in front of the Taj Mahal, one is up against the ultimate chalenge- Carmen Sandiego herself. And certain clues from confessions prove she has a deadly secret up her red sleeve...
Packed with GK, facts, foot-tapping music, breathtaking scenery and the people and faces of the Earth, what Carmen Sandiego has to offer is what the world has to offer. Educational and yet a roller- coaster ride of mystery, deduction and adventure, this is on game that you can't miss. What many have spent their lives tring to achieve- you can do it with the tapping of a keyboard in your own home. So yank this of the shelves and get yanked into the infinite horizons within your screen. To discover the wonder that we call Earth. To feel the exhilirating surge of excitement as you toss wold- class thieves behind bars. And now if you haven't had enough- Carmen has a competitor for world searches- you, for worldwide fools! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Download the demo, seems to have graphical issues
Before buying this game I went to the infogrames website and downloaded a demo, I suggest you do the same. Now this really isn't a big issue and since I am not 2, and won't be playing this game it probably doesn't matter to much but the game has graphical problems. For instance, in the demo the truck sometimes appears in front of object that it should appear behind (ie. the crane). It worries me that if the demo has such an obvious flaw then maybe the real game is only worse.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun for Little Kids
My 2-1/2 year old son loves this game. You can switch between four vehicles and do different activities by driving around Tonka Town. My son especially likes chasing and bumping the bad guys out of town as a police car, putting out the fires as Hook and Ladder fire engine and the race game. There are different levels of the game you can progress through and you can get a certificate everytime you finish a task. I only wish that the game allows you to stay at or adjust to a difficulty level instead of automatically bumping you to a harder level when you finish a task. Although this game may be too easy for kids over 6, I think it's great for pre-schoolers. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A collision with a meteorite has stopped Earth from rotating on itsaxis! Now half of the planet is turning to a ball of ice while the side facingthe sun gets hotter... and hotter. If the planet is to survive, you mustgenerate enough electricity to power a giant impulse machine, the only devicethat can get the planet rotating again. The only problem is with the impulsemachine's electrical generators--not only are they scattered throughout theworld, none of them is working correctly.

Physicus is a first-person role-playing game in the style of Myst, designed for players aged 10 and older. Players click through a nearly endlessseries of gorgeously rendered scenes, scanning any stray objects they find andusing them to repair and activate the electrical generators. The key differencebetween this and similar games, though, is that all the puzzles inPhysicus are based on solid scientific principle.

Fortunately, you do not have to be a wizard in optics, Newton's principles ofmotion, or any other aspect of the physical sciences to play this game. Theexpert is provided for you, in the form of a virtual laptop, which can guide youthrough your world-spanning task. Within the laptop, the fundamental concepts ofphysical science are laid out in a clear and entertaining format, complete withdiagrams and animated illustrations. This banquet of information is broken intobite-sized morsels for younger players, and is available for access at any pointin the game. What's more, the game is very well cross-indexed, with links to thecorrect sections of the laptop appearing whenever a puzzle presents itself.

Physicus is one of the rare educational games that genuinely have it all:great story, super graphics, and truly interesting puzzles. Visually, it melds alush Victorian retrotech sensibility with hardcore educational content. Thefirst-person interface gives the players the opportunity to fully imaginethemselves in this complex adventure. Engaging enough to hold the attention ofadults as well as younger players, it makes an excellent shared project for aparent-and-child team. --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Awesome graphics, but a huge disappointment
This game looked so cool as it made my Pentium 1 computer crash again and again that I purchased a new Pentium 4 machine JUST TO GET THIS GAME TO RUN!

Physicus has an intriguing storyline. Awesome, superior 3D graphics. The reference material is top rate.

But the game: In a scavenger hunt scenario you search for clues then solve problems. There is not enough direction. Hours of aimless frustrating hunting. There is no help in the game that provides any guidance as to what to do next.

The Tivola website offers some guidance, even shows you the answers for the next step but this leaves you no feeling of success. Even after these Tivola hints, you still can't find subsequent clues until more aimless frustrating hunting.

I don't like scavenger hunts where I don't know what I'm looking for so this game is a huge disppointment for myself and 9 yr old child.

It could be useful as reference material for explaining physics related subjects to kids, but the game needs a greater degree of direction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Physicus
Physicus is a terrific game. It is similar to Myst, with the game play and graphics, and has the added bonus of being very informative. The information on optics, mechanics, acoustics, electricity, and heat are excellent. Some of my middle school students love it. They have fun playing, and they're learning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Famous Software Tool
This software is found to be educational for those who are currently interested in the physics field and/or want to pursue future careers that generally involve physics. Recently, I've observed that the software itself is truly designed for teenaged students aged 10-16, in grades 5-11 and an excellent resource for physics-related science coaches. After all, it also provides an opportunity for many middle and high schoolers to excel in this software for many education purposes.

For instance, it is mainly used for situations when a teenager wants to try harder to sucessfully progress his masteries in various courses without any of bothersomeness in his parents' authority. As an idealist of the new century, I hope you find this to be your success material of all!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Need More Work From the Creators
This game is an interesting one, but completely confusing. I would like if it could tell the player what she/he is supposed to do. I try to play this game, but I am always bewildered about what exactly do I have to do to reach the next level. I just get lost and walk around for like hours without a clue! You should say something like "Here you must solve the ........." or something like that. This way people can understand what you mean and what they have to accomplish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Cool
I really liked this game. The graphics are awesome and it's tricky enough to hold my attention but easy enough (okay, I looked at the hints twice!) to know that I will save the world! Very cool. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars UH OH!!!
I just wrote a review for this last time, but i din't know it's only for windows 98 and below!! At school it's windows xp and it works, the makers of Carmen Sandiego gotta work this out. It's 2004 and they need to make new ones!!! AHHHHHH But i do recommend this to people!! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Need I say more?
I absolutely love this game, so does my best friend. Last Friday was the first day I tried it. I thought I solved a case but, the lady said I needed a warrant, what's that? But besides that I'm so excited to play that game until it's my group's turn!! I plan to get it but who knows, maybe I get the computer game or the gamecube one. No matter what, I think this game is a blast. I recommend this ages 9-12. But be careful when you solve your case, you have to solve it before your fuel or gas runs out!!
This game is for kids that likes mystery, adventure, and wants to learn. Now I say those kids are smart!

5-0 out of 5 stars What can I say?
What is there to say about Carmen Sandiego? This game is so much fun, and at 12 years old, I still love to play it! It's education AND fun at the same time, and you don't find many games like that nowadays. Carmen Sandiego is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Love Carman

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a cool game.
This is a cool game. I had a tough time trying to beat it but I finally figured out how to catch Carmen Sandiago in the game. Here's how you catch her. Issue the warrant for the way she usually looks: Female, brown hair, tall, thin and wearing a hat. In Washington D.C click on the woman who is wearing an apron and then click "Stop theif! Your're under arrest!" If you issued the warant like I said you will beat the game and catch Carmen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where in the U.S.A. Is Carmen Sandiego?
This is an excellent game for children to improve their geography skills. They will learn about cities and states of the United States.

4-0 out of 5 stars great game for all ages
This is a fun and educational game for everyone.

I recommend this game for kids and adults alike. I am 14 years old, and I play it with my 47 year old mom and 21 year old brother. I've been playing this game for years.

You learn interesting things about the states while trying to catch a crook without your battery going dead. When you catch certain crooks, you can get messages about Carmen for the last capture which of course is Carmen Sandiego herself.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY FUN
Now I want you to understand me. THIS IS A GREAT PROGRAM AT AGOOD PRICE. And teaches geography at the same time. This ends myreview.

P.S. This program is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego is Great for Kids!
I just recently bought this game for my seven-year-old soon to be eight-year-old son and he loved it! He didn't want to stop playing. I must admit though, that I had to sit and play it with him. At 7 or 8 years old a child's knowledge of cities and states isn't quite enough for this game. But, what was good about that is that child and parent can play together. Once you've got the game figured out and get your super sleuth hats on - it is lots of fun. This game promotes problem solving, searching for details, development of geographical and historical knowledge, reading skills and more! Kids will enjoy the graphics and the mysteries. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of learning fun
My son started playing this game when he turned three. He loved it then, and still loves playing it at age four. I should say, however, that I believe the optimum age for this game to be between 2-4 years. Handily, there are different level settings, so children who are more advanced or less advanced in activities can still enjoy the fun. For example, my son does well in mathematics and reading, so the library and the play store are high level activities. On the other hand, hearing sounds and repeating them (the triangle goes 'ting', so you must then hit the triangle) is harder for him, so we use the easiest setting for the music store.

He has spent up to two hours playing in just the present store, picking out presents for friends within the money limit allowed. He loves choosing the wrapping paper and matching bows, as well.

As the game features many different activities (reading, mathematics, sound repetition, vocabulary, shape-sorting), it is a win for parents interested in educating their children in a fun way. I'm planning on purchasing it for my nephew, as well, and if I had more relatives with children, they'd be getting it for Christmas, too.

The main down side would be Joe, as compared to the beloved Steve, but he plays a very minor role, and is only seen when the child is switching between activity centers (library, grocery store, music store, bakery, present store). The other would be the lack of actual reading in the library. As my son can read, it would be more fun on the highest level if he could sort the books according to title, instead of just with the beginning letter. However, he still has a lot of fun with it, and the mathematics in the present store are great.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pass, unless you really love shelves.
This Blue's Clues game looks like it was rushed through development. With the show's old host Steve gone, they now have to quickly replace Blue's old computer games so that the new host, Joe, is in them. Most of the simplistic activities have a recurring theme: taking and putting things off and on shelves. Here's a list of what to expect:

Activity 1: Go to the bakery and pick items off shelves.

Activity 2: Go to the library and put books where they're supposed to go, by matching the book with the letter on the shelf.

Activity 3: Go to the Toy Store and help customers buy presents by picking from a shelf full of items.

Activity 4: Go to the grocery store, and help Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper select groceries by taking food items off of ... you guessed it, shelves.

The only activity that is different, is a mediocre music activity, where you match what Purple Kangaroo does. Eh.

Sounds pretty exciting, doesn't it! Well, not really. The only reason this game will sell like crazy is because it has Blue in it. If it wasn't for that, no one would pay attention to it. The activities are simplistic and rapidly become boring due to the recurring and unimaginitive "shelf" theme. Worse, the program doesn't really explain anything to your child. It just jumps right in and says "Match the letter on the book, to the letter on the shelf." Your child may likely ask, "What's a letter?"

The show is good, but this game isn't. Pass, unless you really love shelves.

La la land is a place I have been to many times in my life time. They have ponys you can sit on. And they dance! And sing! And poop! And giant slugs slither on you until you get really, really, really, really, really ,really ,really, really, really, really, really, really ,really ,really, really, really, really, sticky. And you can fly with dragons that speak Italian...And warrior bunnies attack with feathers made of soap. And Green Bay Packers fans wear cheese on there heads. Which bring flying monkeys that only eat cheese! And gwakamoli rains from the heavens. And you can grow a beard that climbs all the way around the earth and chokes zombies to death!!!(...) And sticky mummies walk around in circles until they burn holes in the floor!!! I JUST LOVE THIS BLUES CLUES GAME!!! IT'S THE BEST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED!!!!!!!!!!!! THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END!

3-0 out of 5 stars It was ok
I played with my almost four year old nephew with this and I found it very hard for him to follow. First of all, was he supposed to know when to click? I could hardly tell when the arrows were slighted changed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
We've had this disc since my son was 3. Other reviewers have expressed the thought that the game is more suitable for toddlers. I don't entirely agree, particularly given that there are three distinct levels for each task.

The Grocery Store - level 1 directs children to put specific items in the basket. Higher levels direct children to items based on their relative position (e.g. the item below, or to the right of, bananas).

The Music Store - I admit that I find this one tiresome. The player repeats a pattern of beats on a variety of instruments. Each level increases the number of beats and instruments used.

The Bakery - Children choose items that are specific shapes. Level 1 uses only the most common shapes. Level 2 introduces lesser known shapes, like the crescent. Level 3 has the child look for objects that combine shapes - the task may be to find an item containing 1 circle, 1 triangle and 2 rectangles, which the child will find arranged as a cookie shaped like a little girl.

The Present Store - Here the child is asked to find one item that cost a specific number of "blue dollars". The number of dollars is displayed on the gift table and each item's price is displayed beneath it. The child places the item on the table and then counts out the appropriate number of dollars. In the higher levels, the child is given an amount, but they must find a combination of 2 or more objects that equal that total (probably the most complex activity in the game).

The Library - ok, I can't defend this one. It is ridiculously easy on any level.

All in all, it's not a bad game. It does move a little slowly and you do have to adjust the difficulty of each activity to the appropriate level for your child, but holds appeal for kids a variety of ages and gives them a chance to play with a favorite character. ... Read more
