Game Play Good. Technically Poor.
Pajama Sam is back! I bought this after reading most of the reviews below. I have to say is that they are mostly all true. Technically this game is in beta but the game play is still good if you can close your eyes to the technical snafus. The voice sync is awful, the game runs slowly (this is inexcusable with at animated cartoon type game) and it takes a minimum of 160MB on the hard drive. If Humongous could make their early DOS games run well why can't Atari do the same with game on toady's faster computers? Sounds like they wanted to get this thing out for the Christmas season. The voice does sound different. Weather it's the same kid but older or a different kid is difficult to tell but they game does lose something because of it.

On the plus side the game is still fun to play. Pajama Sam is still the cleaver, mischievous kid as he's always been. Although I wish Atari didn't have a hand in this (their quality standards seem to be a lot lower that Humongous' standards) I'm glad we have another Pajama Sam game. Hopefully a patch will be issued for this game and that will bring this game back up to Humongous' standards for the technical issues.

I bought the new Pyjama Sam game without hesitation because the other Humungous games are GREAT. But this stinker was slow and froze our computer within five minutes. The game is unplayable. My son is crying and I am so angry that I spent $20.00 on this. It was his brithday present!!! And I can't return it since the box is opened. Don't buy this!!!

Technically poor
I, too, wish I had read the Amazon reviews before I purchased this for my son. The game is so-o-o-o slow, when Sam moves from scene to scene. The dialog is out of sync with the pictures. And the biggest drawback is that there is really only one game. The Shoe, Shirt and Socks are always in the same place and need the same things in order for Sam to retrieve them. The other games had variations to challenge our 4 year olds. I wish that I had never bought it.

Pajama Sam: LIfe Is Rough When You Lose Your Stuff
Every year my children and I await for the new Freddi Fish or Pajama Sam game to be released. Usually, it's a few years wait. I have to say that I am utterly disappointed in the latest release of Pajama Sam. Humongous has such a great following with their line of children's software. How did this product ever get passed the testing group? Perhaps a big company like Atari doesn't have one??? Hard to believe. (...) I hate to see this series end. I wished I had read the reviews before I bought this. It's so bad, Atari should have a recall.

It's Rough Cause I Lost My Stuff...er Money!
I'm disappointed with this fourth Pajama Sam. My six year old son and I loved the first three titles of Pajama Sam. So when he wanted the "It's Rough When You Lose Your Stuff" one, I said, "sure". There were no arguements from me, the previously satisfied customer.

He wanted me to hurry up with my shopping, so he could get home and start playing the CD. I helped him install the game, and we sat back to enjoy our favorite animated character.

The first thing I noticed was that Sam's voice sounded different. Also, his mouth did not match with the dialogue. It looked like a Japanese karate movie that had been redubbed with English words. How could the producers have missed that?

Secondly, the ESC keep did not work to help you zoom through the scenes on your way around the map to find the missing objects. (It does on the first three versions. Call me spoiled? But why do away with a great feature? Sam does a lot of running around). So, we waited as he walked from this path to that path...waited...waited and waited....

Thirdly, the game lags! I thought my new computer (purchased this year, mind you) was messing up. How could it lag? This is not a multiplayer game on the internet for crying out loud. It's as if the professional people turned this product over for elementary school children to produce. It's that far down quality wise from the first three.

I'm disappointed and disgusted. I wish I had read the earlier Amazon reviews, but I TRUSTED the quality of Humongous Entertainment and didn't dream of reading the feedback. I learned my lesson. No more buying of any software without listening to those who've already been suckered or thrilled.

Listen--if you want to buy quality fun games for your kids, go with Pajama Sam 1-3. Leave number 4 in the store. Believe me, it's Rough When You Lose Your Money.

Pajama Sam: Games to Play on Any Day has no 3-D graphics, nospecial effects, and no gimmicks. It's excellent. This refreshing program puts aclever Humongous Entertainment spin on remakes of classic games. Remember whenkids pulled checkers and Parcheesi out of the closet on a rainy day instead ofpowering up the Game Boy? This CD-ROM evokes that feeling so completely, it'seasy to forget these board games are taking place onscreen instead of on theliving-room floor.

The first treat is that no installation is necessary, since these games rundirectly from disc. After an animated sequence that features Pajama Samrummaging through that game closet on a drearily wet day, players arrive at asimple screen where there are nine different games to choose from. Here playerscan also pick one of three levels of difficulty, and whether they want to playthe computer or a fellow human being. There's even a demo mode for folks whohave been playing so much Super Mario they've forgotten how to playcheckers.

The games have names like Jumping Beans, Fans and Teleporters, and 4 CheesePizza, but don't be fooled. You'll be playing checkers, Chutes and Ladders, andsomething similar to Aggravation, yet not so close as to inspire a lawsuit fromMilton Bradley. This program also contains versions of Concentration(Concentrate!), and tic-tac-toe (Cheese and Crackers). Our favorite was afamiliar-feeling game called Happy Fun Squares where we linked dots with lines,eventually building squares, against a character named Darkness. Even on theeasy level, Darkness managed to be an enjoyable opponent, amass squares withfrightening efficiency, and whup us thoroughly.

Humongous Entertainment deserves kudos for going back to the basics and creatinga simple program with staying power. It's no accident that these games areclassics: most of them require strategic thinking and logic to win. Humongous/Infogames #1
This is absolutely the best set of kids' computer games except for PuttPutt's Activity Pack (same company)! We have most of PuttPutt, Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam and Spy Fox, plus the soccer, baseball and football. Not only has my 6 year old been playing them successfully for 3 years, but the neighbor kids up to age 12 come over to play them as well (for the past 3 years). You can't go wrong with any of these products for kids not yet too sophisticated to demand interactive advanced graphics. These are the best, and entirely inoffensive.

Pajama Sam Games to Play on Any Day
The sixth Pajama Sam release, this new game doesn't look like it will live up to the others, but it does. There are ten fun new versions of old games. They can be more addicting than the originals, especially if you're a PJ Sam fan! It's a rainy day, and Pajama Sam doesn't know what to do. He looks in the closet for games, and ends up in a world of fun, revisiting with some of his old friends. Because you can't save games, THIS GAME DOESN'T REQUIRE ANY HARD DRIVE SPACE. It will work on practically any computer Windows 95, Mac 7.5.5, or higher, and doesn't need to be installed. It doesn't come with a CD case, just an envelope, but this game stays in my CD-ROM drive all the time because it's so hard to stop playing. I would recommend this for any Pajama Sam junkee, or just a PJ Sam beginner.

A fantastic bargain for three wonderful kids titles!
My three year old daughter started out with Freddi Fish number 2. We now own all five Freddi Fish titles. This great pack comes with three cd's. Each cd is number one in the series for each character. All three main characters are really cute and easy to follow. The graphics are great on all the cd's, and each adventure has some great fun songs in them. In each scene, there are a lot of things to click on so that the kids really get good mouse practice. This is a great set to get for a child who is just starting out on the computer. An experienced user will love it too. Each title is good for a boy or a girl.
We have over 20 kids games, and this set is by far the very best.

Great games, great buy
My 5 year old son loves all of these games. We had a different Pajama Sam game which he loved and I couldn't pass up the deal offered here. I'm sure glad I got it. Humongous does a great job creating fun games with staying power. They are just hard enough to keep your attention, but easy enough not to be frustrating for a 5 year old. At this age, its unnecessary to get the newest games, as long as the games are new to the kids, that's all you need. These 3 games will provide months of entertainment at a great price.

Humongous Fun
We bought this set for my son before he was 2 and he learned all the tricks in the Putt Putt game right away with me moving the mouse for him. Now he's a bit over 2 and he's learned how to use the mouse so he can do Putt Putt and Fredi Fish by himself. He doesn't always get everything right but he loves to play. The games are very creative and if the child doesn't click on the right thing, lots of funny things happen to whatever they click. He's still too young for Pajama Sam but some older friends of his love it. This is a terrific set at a great price. One tip: make sure you click on the topiary creatures before you go in the zoo in the Putt Putt game - there's a very cute song and dance they do.

Just as much of a success as the Junior Arcade series!
My 5-year old and his 3-year old sister have thoroughly enjoyed the Junior Arcade series which in many ways are HE's homage to classic arcade games (Defender, Breakout, Q*Bert, etc.)

But after reading numerous reviews especially here on Amazon I realized that I had to pick up one of the Adventure series as my kids love the characters, and would be working on some problem-solving and observational skills, among other things. Plus I knew the humour would make the grown-ups laugh along with the little ones.

Boy was I right! Just picked up this little value pack today, and they wouldn't go to bed until we finished the Pajama Sam title! It's true that the puzzles are hard enough to be challenging, but not frustratingly impossible to figure out (the carrot-fridge connection was so obvious that it never occurred to me for the longest time!)

I love knowing my son can play it again a second time with some of the puzzles changed, and a few "hidden" sections awaiting as well! It has better replay value than many games out there for the grown-ups!

I highly recommend this collection, as well as any of the other Pajama Sam/Spy Fox/Freddi Fish/Putt-Putt titles for parents looking for wholesome, challenging, and occasionaly laugh-out-loud enjoyable kids games! I get a chance to relive my own youth (this title reminded me of playing King's Quest 1 and 2 back in my teens) while encouraging my kids to think creatively rather than just go through the same repetitious routine again and again like most games out there... What more could you ask for in a kid's game?

Great entertainment, and good learning too.
This is a great set of games. They're hard enough that solutions aren't always obvious (even to the adult), but easy enough that with time and effort even a 3 year old can master them eventually. They're also fun enough that the 3 year old in question was more than willing to put in the time. In fact it was hard to pry him away from them. The characters are engaging, and there are a lot of small games internally that can be played regardless of what's going on in the larger game. More excellent titles from Humongous
"PJS: No Need To Hide" is the flagship title in this package -- interesting how these get cheaper with time! -- and is a very competent program in both animation and game play. There is a reasonable amount of problem-solving required to get through the game, things like finding the missing gear to make a machine work, enough so that a younger kid will definitely need some adult guidance. (If you get stuck, the publisher's web site provides hints!) Our son enjoyed the game immensely at age 4 going on 5 but still goofs off with it -- now knowing all the puzzles -- at age 6.

Pajama Sam compares well to the same company's Freddi Fish series, if you are familiar with those. Definitely worth the price, and you can always pass the CD-ROM along to a friend later, like a book you enjoyed.

Pajama Sam Experience
This great value pack has three terrific games in it. In "No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside" Pajama Sam must go on a problem solving educational but fun adventure to the land of Darkness to defeat his worst fear. He might just learn something about Darkness, though. In "Sock Works", Sam must sort his socks. It's a big job, but Sam makes a dream machine to do it for him. There are 250 levels, but the computer pick 100 as you go along. You can even construct your own levels with an easy to use level builder. A good time, as usual
I expected my kids (6 and 4) would get tired of the humungous game series of role-playing games (Pajama Sam and Freddi Fish), but they don't! It seems they could play them forever, even though the basic gameplay is the same for all of them. Humungous keeps things fresh by introducing new characters and puzzle types that keep the kids hooked. The story is engaging enough that one kid doesn't mind watching while the other plays. But don't be fooled by the packaging that alludes to the educational benefit of learning about food groups--any learning that occurs will be by accident. Also, a few of the puzzles require reading skills and left my kids calling for help. All in all, a fun game that is worth the price of admission.

A Great game for Children of All Ages!
My children and I were so excited when we knew that a new Pajama Sam game had come out. My children have played it every day since we bought it and they still rave.

In this new game, the Food Guide Pyramid, needs Pajama Sams help. The evil Fat and Sugars are making trouble for the good ole natural foods. So Pajama Sam takes a cool ride into the human body for an adventurous quest between good and evil.

Pajama Sam and your children will learn about the difference between good food (fruits and vegetables) and junk food (cakes, cookies and chips).

As with all Humongous games, this one is filled with vibrant colors and cool sounds. There are many fun and friendly characters all throughout this enchanting game. There are different objectives each time the game is played. You can also save the game each time you play it.

I recommend this game to anyone with children. It does not matter their age, they will want to play it anyway.

great fun for more experience little gamers
If your child has played beginning level software and is ready to move on to more advanced gameplay, Humongous Entertainment's Pajama Sam series (and Freddi Fish and Putt-Putt as well) are an excellent choice. These titles take the cognitive tasks up a notch as children must accumulate specific items, navigate a number of locations, and use their problem-solving skills to help new friends and achieve larger goals. Along the way, funny and lovable Pajama Sam will meet a number of nice characters, visit a variety of interesting locations and play mini-games as he completes the larger task of getting a representative of each food group out of a pickle so they can get to an important meeting. Along the way he will solve a lot of smaller puzzles and click on many objects that dance or act out funny events. Specifics change if you start a new game, and you will want to play with your child a few times before they'll be able to enjoy it on their own, so each game is good for hours of fun.

This is a fine game in a great series. We have all the Pajama Sam titles and enjoy them all.

fun with food
Well my miniture pajama sam complete with his little red cape loves this one. Hes three by the way. Please note the way the characters drawn and the name it could be a sam or a samantha so will appeal equally to both.
You begin by finding sams cape and then away you go to mop top island (if you look closely you will see its patterned on pajama sam himself)
You start at the party and dont forget to pick up the box top as you cant come back for this one. Next is the jail and before you break out remember to pick up the box top.
Food is the theme and you meet some great foods as you travel around from the head to the feet and a couple of places inbetween.
Some of it can be quite difficult and some reading is required in one gamepath, but guesswork could be used for the younger kids if mum or dad or an older sibling isnt about.
Math is required in another gamepath so someone needs to be around to help out the younger ones.
Humour is there as always and of course plenty of click points.
Again four things to find and two places for each to hide. The gamepaths for the hiding places are far more similar this time but its still has plenty of replayability.
In some places picking up the box top is a little difficult as they are placed a little too close to the next screen arrow. But its a challenge to get all the box tops and see the box arrive in sams mailbox.
The kids loved sorting the beans and enjoy getting this game path.
They also enjoy skiing down the mountain.

Overall its a little harder than the first two but just as much fun.

not just for kids
I've been playing the Palama Sam games with my granddaughter,neices and nephews, and we have been having a great time. I'm 49 years old and find them interesting and they really make the kids think. They are for all ages. ... Read more

I have a small pajama sam too
My three year old loves pajama sam, I made him a red cape so he could run around being pajama sam.
To the game, First you must find sams cape and then you find your way to the attic to face thunder and lightening. Thunder is a very grandmothery figure and lightening is like a dizzy maiden aunt.
You accidently press the red switch and have to find and mend all the weather machines before mother nature arrives. You also have to find the missing pieces of the jigsaw you spilt aand put it back together (there are a number of different jigsaws so you dont know which one you will get)
You have four weather machines to fix and they each have two places to hide, so the game is different each time you play.
Every time you fix a piece of the weather machine, thunder and lightening appear and congratulate you so there is plenty of positive reinforcement and encoragement for children to help others.
There is also a version of the game ludo, or maybe you know it as trouble, that I find my kids playing quite a lot (its a pity they couldnt have made it multiplayer) as only you and the computer can play.
Have fun in the greenhouse making apples eggplants bananas and pickles grow on little bushes, you need them sometimes. Or maybe see if there is a pot of gold under the rainbow you make. Kids also learn to follow a recipe, get everything right and you are rewarded with an animation and maybe something you will need later.
Overall its a great game with plenty of warm fuzzys.

Excellent, with assistance
My 3 and 1/2 year old loves the movement and many levels of this game; however, she cannot do it alone. After we went through it together (and it did take quite a bit of time) she was able to navigate a bit better on her own. There are numbers/codes involved, so I expect the makers of the game knew an adult would have to help out the younger players as well. Imaginative and fun!

Pajama Sam 2
My grandson, Jake, is 5 1/2 years old and he says it's great. He mastered all the levels and is very proud of himself. Not only is the CD ROM good, your outside vendor was also great in delivering promptly as promised.

THIS GAME WAS GOOD
This game was good but not as terrific as the 1st pajama sam. In Pajama Sam 2 pajama sam is scared of the thunder and lightening so he goes and tries to stop then he ends up tripping and lands on a button then all the weather pieces come off of there places and get lost and thunder and lightening(2 characters in the game)
give sam a sheet of the missing pieces (because if mother nature finds out they'll get in trouble)and its sams job to go find them.It is very adventurous and if your child is scared of the dark or likes the dark and loves adventure and likes to talk and socialize with people this is the game for you!

Humongous Entertainment knew you'd be concerned. They've put a control on this program, so you can dictate how much (or little) paper gets used. There's also an option that eliminates background printing to save ink. One caveat: you must get to this area, called Parent's Printer Saver, before your computer savvy six-year-old does. A kid who's a good navigator could conceivably lock you out of this spot. If controlling how much your child prints is important to you, be sure to access the printer-saver function when it's time to print the first project, and set your controls and password. When we didn't use the option on the first printing, it didn't come up for us on subsequent printings ... so bully your way into the Fun Shop and make sure you're at the controls for that first project.

Pajama Sam fans will love this CD-ROM, as they make P.S. paper airplanes, letterheads, place mats, etc., etc. There's enough non-Pajama Sam artwork to keep purists happy as well. You'll need more than a computer and a printer to finish some of these items.
