4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but can be improved
This Arthur math game is nice for first grade. However, not second grade or above. The math problems are too easy. For example, the most difficult calculation is still on the 1-digit base. For some more math calculation problems, I recommend a website: http://www.....com They have randomly generated worksheets, which provide your children enough practice to do math quickly.

The rest of the game are pretty good. The sorting, hunting treasure parts are interesting. You get what you pay. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Despite a few quirks, any die-hard 'N Sync fan will certainly go gagaover the 'N Sync Hotline Fantasy Phone and CD-ROM Game. After all, whatyoung girl wouldn't swoon over Justin Timberlake calling at bedtime to say, "Hi,it's Justin. I just called to say goodnight, sleep tight, and don't let thebedbugs bite"? Yes, this unique combination toy cell phone and interactive gamelets you receive virtual calls and special messages from all the 'N Sync boys,as well as play a handful of games featuring none other than Justin, Lance, JC,Joey, and Chris.

The phone itself is the main attraction. After connecting it to the game port onyour computer with the included cable, you tell the program your name, thenenter your birthday and bedtime, and you'll receive personalized messages atthese times. You can also download up to five messages at a time from any of theband members (out of dozens of possible messages from each guy), and you'll getperiodic calls from them. Or, if you don't answer the phone right away, themessages will be delivered to your "voice mail" where you can listen to themlater. You can also call each member of the band and ask the guys "yes" or "no"questions, à la Magic Eight Ball. If you're exceptionally creative orsilly, this can be the most amusing part of the game.

The five games for your PC, on the other hand, are nothing short of strange (orstupid, depending on how you look at it) and anyone will probably quickly tireof playing them. In the bowling game, for example, you send a ball down the laneto hit bowling pins that have the heads of the 'N Sync guys. If you knock themover or land your ball in the gutter, they'll either congratulate you on yourskills or make fun of you. We found it nearly impossible to knock over all thepins, and quickly irritating, no matter how dreamy we thought a miniJustin-headed bowling pin was. And, though not necessary, you can use the phone as acontroller for all the games while it's connected to the computer. However, after fumbling around with the controls, we found it much easier to just use thekeyboard and mouse.

The best of the pack is the trivia game, which is pretty cut-and-dry. The gameasks questions about the members of the band, and you have to guess what Joey'sfavorite color is or which guy likes French fries. Some of the trivia is prettyjuicy, and some just plain weird. The only reward for completing these games isa new message from the guys that you can download to your phone.

But, being forgiving 'N Sync fans ourselves, we found the phone to be prettycool, generally entertaining, and something we consistently want to show off toour friends. (Ages 8 and older) --Ara Jane Olufson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun for the *NSYNC fan!
The *NSYNC Fantasy Phone and CD Rom game is GREAT! I am an...um hum...older...fan of *NSYNC and love this game and phone. It comes with a plug to insert in your SoundCard and into the phone (note: phone needs 3 AAA batteries not included). You set up the phone with your name and birthday and bedtime (you get a message from your favorite *NSYNCer at bedtime!) You can set up your phone to receive up to about 4 selected 'messages' from the guys. You are permitted to listen to each message and then download the ones you want. You can change the messages each day or keep the same ones. The CD is 5 games: Bowling (the guys are 5 of the pins and they are funny), Make a Move (you follow the guys dancing), Trivia (fun facts), Quick Change (change their clothes to match within a specific time) and Charity Challenge (you blow the guys kisses from a Nerf like gun). You can select the difficulty level in all games. You play by all Access Pass where you must achieve a certain score in each game at the most difficult level to move on - the guys give you a phone number to move on. If you finish this you get a secret message from the guys. Also you can select No Strings method where you can play each game as often as you like ie to practice. Each part of the game is enhanced with a great video of each *NSYNCer introducing the game and the rules. There is a quick help menu always available at the touch of a key. You can either use the keyboard on your computer or the keypad of the phone to navigate the game. When you are done playing you are to click on Gotta Bounce and special messages from *NSYNC are downloaded to your phone. When your phone rings, you can listen to each message. You can also turn the ringer off (for instance in the library). Each of the 5 individual games are filled with little surprises. The game is great fun. I recommend it highly for any *NSYNC fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is AWSOME!
I can't begin to tell you how much fun this game is. I am about 4 years past my teens(you do the math) and I still love this game. For all the info on what is in the game, read the amazon info or the other review up here. I think my favorite part of the game is the messages from the guys and the fact that you can call the guys up and ask them yes or no questions kind of like having a Nsyncer magic 8 ball. I wasn't sure about spending my hard earned money on the game but it was well worth it and easy to set up. The hardest part was hooking up the computer cord for the phone. I highly recomend this game for any true nsync fan. The triva has questions on things that I didn't even know(and I know A LOT!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Very very good!
The phone is very cool. It's really great because you tell them your name and the time you go to bed and they ring you and say goodnight! It's like a real phone it's so cool. If you don't answer the phone they leave a message. You can call them and ask them questions. The phone is great but I don't like the games very much so I gave it 4 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars this is a waste of money
Don't get this game there is realy no point to the game I gave it a star because I felt sorry for the bad game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
I must say this was a guilty pleasure. I don't really like nsync but I saw this game for only 12 dollars and had to get it. It was actullay preety fun,but not enough fun to last awhile. The games on the cd rom were alright. I had a lot of trouble on the triva though. Here is my review on each game.

Charity Challenge- I didn't like this to much. It just wasn't that fun.

Trivia- This was hard for me since I am not an nsync fan. Really big nsync fans will have no problem on this though.

Bowling- This was pretty cool. I love to bowl so this was pretty cool to have on this game. The guy's heads are drawn on to five of the pins and they talk every now and then. Very cool!

Quick change- I kinda like this. It was pretty fun but each guy has the same outfits. They should have given each guy their own clothing.

Make a Move- My fave. I think I like this one because I like rytym/dance games. This was kinda like a dance game in a way.

So there you have it, my review. Very great for some nsync fun!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Creatures: A Unique Game To Be Sure !
Where to begin ? Okay practicality first: Creatures the first game, is Win95, so if you have Windows 98 or up it probably won't install. Unless you have WinXP I think. Creatures 2 will install though, and Creatures 3. At least, they did on my PC, which is Windows 2000. However, I've played all three, because I began with the first Creatures game on my Mac.

I fell in love with "Creatures" for a lot of reasons: they are cute; they REALLY seem alive (to the point they are like pets; and I actually got sad when my first norn began to get old and ill much to my embarrassment & surprise), and they are so cute ! They do cute, unexpected things. Example: my first norn Kiki loved to watch the bees buzz around the beehives (norns eat things like carrots, honey, flowers) even though they'd sting her; then she'd turn straight to me (they make it so they turn to look right AT you; weird !) and frown sadly.

Or when another norn player (search the 'net for norn or Creatures and you will find a lot of homemade websites with homemade items for them -- toys, food, medicine...) made a trampoline for norns -- oh MAN was that funny. Now they couldn't have been programmed this way, cos this wasn't invented yet ! But they'd trip the trampoline lever and go flying through the air -- and the range of expressions on their faces was priceless. Some were scared, some were ecstatic, some were puzzled as could be. It was priceless.

ANyway you get the idea. For more technical types, the norns have biological data you can keep track of. For computer techie types, you can breed norns and try to make new genomes etc. Also you can make things for them to use in the game. The official website has free downloads and advice to help you with all this.

As for the game itself: it's about life ! Very good for kids or for anyone with a nurturing instinct. You hatch an egg, inside which is a baby male or female norn. They come in different colors etc. They sort of look like the gremlins when they were nicer. They crawl, then toddle around, learning about Albia, the world they live in. They learn to eat, play, and can learn language from a computer upstairs. Keep them away from 'bad' plants or they might get sick and even die. After about an hour, a grendl hatches; he's scary at first, but they have their personalities too, some are worse than others. Usually though they are snotty and slap the norn or follow him around spreading germs on him unwittingly. Bottom line: Keep norns and grendl apart. At least there's only one of him !

In the first game there's a desert island, (they get there by submarine ! [...]) a hot air balloon, there's just too much about this game to go into here but trust me it's fun.

For small kids you might want to get the kids' versions instead (Creatures Adventure, Creatures Playground; no grendl and norns don't die, just play dressup etc.), as some kids think grendl is too scary or mean. (Also, when they grow up they can 'breed'; they simply walk by each other and there's a kiss-pop noise but no visual; but later the female lays an egg. I don't think it's a big deal but my aunt didn't want her grandchild to read about hormone levels etc. since you can track those in their health kit. Kind of an individual call there. But there's nothing 'dirty' about it in any sense and no visual at all the egg just appears later). Then again when I was on the Creatures newsgroup there were a lot of grade schoolers in there who love Creatures, and didn't seem fazed by reading about rising estrogen in their norn etc (probably went over their head).

Creatures 2 is just as fun; something they kept in both games is the point of view of the norn. This means when you click on the 'eye' on the toolbar you see what it's seeing. Know how you talk to a toddler or puppy and THINK it's listening but can tell it might not be ? Wouldn't you like to know what they are really looking at or thinking about ? In Creatures and Creatures 2 you can see. It's usually NOT whatever you are trying to teach them. haha

Which is the downside -- sometimes it can be frustrating -- they forget words you taught them and even forget how to eat ! They are like little kids in that way, you have to really take care of them. But the upside is they're so cute to watch play.

Creatures 2 has a larger world, a new being called an ettin who just kind of wanders around harmless, and thanks to the world being bigger you don't see grendl as often. However the norns can now fall off upper levels, and even drown ! But, get things from user websites and from the official site to help with that (bridges, extra puffer fish to save norns from the water etc.) and you'll be fine. The norns aren't as cute I don't think but at least you can play this one on your system. They have more facial expressions in C2 but also they can get sicker easier it seems like. But they seem to live just as long. Norns go thru life stages and even go bald or get grey hair !

Creatures 3 I didn't like at all. They turned it into a 'survivor' type game ! They had pirhanas, sharks, and norns can get sucked out into space through a door ! It's a big spaceship ecosystem instead of a planet. You can't pick things up to carry from one part of it to another very easily to give your norn (say he's trapped somewhere w/no food) and worst of all you can't see what they see any more. I had no use for C3 at all -- makes a nice coaster though.

I hope this helped -- enjoy Creatures ! I think it's a really neat idea. And fun to play ! [....]

4-0 out of 5 stars Creatures = AWESOME!
This is the BEST series of games ever! I'm Lindsay, your host - oh, wait. This isn't an infomercial.

In Creatures (1), you take care of the Norns and keep them safe from the Grendels. (Actually, you can train the Grendels to be nice to the Norns.) There are about 5 breeds in the game (In C1 bought by itself there's 4, but the Forest and Ron norns are in the Life Kit included with the trilogy. YAY!) - The Banana Norn (which is not banana-like at all), White-Haired Norn (My FAVORITE!), Horse Norn, Ron Norn, and Forest Norn. There are also the Grendels, which are green and ugly. They hit your norns normally and are supposed to spread disease (though my norns have never gotten sick from a grendel...), but as I said, you can train them.

Creatures 2 is more difficult than C1, because of two things: the norns can fall off cliffs or bridges and drown, and number two: THE NORNS ARE SOOO STUPID!!! A norn is about as likely to eat the food as it is to eat the clouds. Actually, the norns seem to love trying to eat the clouds. Hmm. Anyways, the breeds are the Hebe Norn, Emerald Norn, Pixie Norn, and included only in the Life Kit included with the trilogy, Golden Desert Norns. (If you put a certain chemical in them, they dance, it's really neat!) There's also a new species, ETTINS! They are little guys with white hair who live in a swamp. They look sort of like a kind of cute troll. They are so cute! *is overwhelmed by the cuteness and faints*

Creatures 3 is kind of disappointing. While the new graphics for the norns and grendels are cute (I don't care for the new ettin ones), the norns no longer rely on you at all. The only time they notice you is when they want to slap you. Argh! They teach themselves to eat, etc. And they're so obedient, it's scary. They do whatever you tell them to. *shudder* And you can just walk them around now by clicking! I mean at times that is convenient, but come ON! Where's the FUN in having them do it all themselves?! *pant, pant*

And now a short synopsis of what you just read : BUY CREATURES TRILOGY NOW!

4-0 out of 5 stars Creatures Trilligy is Good
I like Creatures trilligy. Creatures and Creatures 2 need work.
I wish I could hold my Norns hand. And in Creatures I wish the wourld was bigger. Creatures 3 is great! No conplants about that. Thouh I don`t reckemed it to 5,6,7,and some 8 year old children. It might be to coplicated.

5-0 out of 5 stars help, why?
i love this game..But... why didnt you make it on windows xp? its not fair!!!! im so angry.. you know i used to have windows like hp.. and stuff.. but now i have windows xp.. i need windows xp!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Creatures 1 good. Creatures 2 awesome. Creatures 3 annoying.
Although I don't own the trilogy, I own all the games seperately and can tell you that Creatures 2 is the best.
Basically, you hatch these cute little creatures called norns. You can name, take photos and raise your norns.
Your norns live in a world called Albia which is covered in all sorts of strange wildlife and contraptions.
After you have named your norns, you can start to teach them language. You can use the learning machines to do this or you can pick up an item and wave in front of their face and type in what it is.
Your norns can speak, play, eat, drink and even express their feelings e.g: Luke crowded or Amy scared.
The amazing thing about norns is the fact that their behaviour is not programmed into the machine. They are arguably alive.
Norns are basically like 2 year olds (But much cuter).
Every norn is unique which makes breeding very interesting. The species will actually evolve after several generations because occasionally when two norns breed, there are genetic mutations which can be harmful or beneficial to your norns.
Norns have their own working biochemistry and DNA which can also be very interesting.
On Creatures 1 & 2 you have kits to help you. Owner kit, health, science, observation, chronicles, breeding and ecology kit.
On creatures 2 & 3 the world of albia has a full working ecology including weather, seasons and other things. The Norns lifespan can be anything from one second to 15 hours( maybe more). Don't expect to be easy though. The vicious Grendel species can hit, infect or even kill your norns as well as lots of other horrible bacteria.
The graphics on this game are nice and colourful and it is presented well.
BUY THIS GAME! IT IS WORTH IT! I haven't even told you everything. You'll have to find out everythin on your own ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
My daughter received this software as a gift. Much to her dismay, the program never worked. I experienced so many problems installing the program and never got it to work online with the internet features or offline either. The Disney Girlfriend server did go offline in Feb 2004. I am in the process of requesting my money back.

1-0 out of 5 stars Internet functionality is no longer supported
Disney Interactive will no longer be supporting the Internet aspects of Disney Girlfriends. The Online Host Server for the program will be off-line as of February of 2004. While you can still play the game without the internet functions it just isn't the same. My daughter use to love to play this game but now we will probably use it as a coaster.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
I bought this game for my 6 year old daughter. We installed it and it was a complete mess! I had to uninstall it and reinstall it 3 times just to access this parental control area. I would open it but could not enter anything. Then we could not sign in on the sign in page. Finally we got everything to work and went online to access the online features of the game and as soon as we started the game, it said there was a new update from disney and to wait until the game updated. As soon as it did, it shut down. After that, when we tried to start it again and it said the wrong disk was in the drive and we couldn't play it after that. Called the CS number on the games manual and got my money back!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Enter Creatures Playground and bring to life an entire worldcreated around your very own virtual pet. Total care for this creature is yourresponsibility as you guide it through various adventures. The playground beginsin the Nestery; this is where you choose an egg, hatch it, and then name yourNorn, or new friend. Since the Norn is born with no knowledge of the world, youmust take over parental control and teach it well.

Throughout the game, your Norn must be kept well fed, warm, and happy. Food canbe found along your journey, either on the ground or in the trees, or you canprepare it in the kitchen area--even grow it in the garden. Dressing your Nornwill keep him or her nice and warm; clothes should be taken either from justoutside the Nestery or acquired along your journey.

As your Norn makes its way through the playground, various tasks must becompleted to enter different stages. Use the candy-floss machine to feed yourNorn, or make jelly or toffee apples. Once your Norn is fed, you can move on tothe action games--take the water hose and shoot down the targets in the piratewater game, enter the caves and dig for hidden treasure, or travel to space andtransport your Norn to the winter playland. Here he or she can ride on achairlift to the top of a hill, choose a run, and then race down while avoidingthe obstacles along the way. There are plenty of different stages, tasks, andsurprises, resulting in an endless number of potential adventures for yourNorn.

Players at the younger end of the suggested age range may require parentalassistance to begin with, to help them understand all the ways to play with theNorn. However, the scope for development and the endless game scenarios willkeep most players enthralled. Parental control over the game can be set with theuse of time and sound restrictions, and the game can be personalized withplayers' birthdays. (Ages 5 to 9) --Mandy Wood ... Read more

Cretures Playground is good. You don`t have to worry about grendels like in other Creatures games. The merger is great! You can go more places. But at the end of your Norns life it`s boring. It has good pictures. You really feel like your the Mother or Father. You can hold your Norns hand too. If your child likes animals your child will looove Creatures Playground!!!!

With over 50 games in our children's software collection, nothing comes close to the imaginative world of Creature's Playground. The game has a particularly simple theme: raise little creatures from an egg and take care of them. There are dozens of activities in an extensive little world. The graphics are fantastic, the play is creative and unconstrained, and is extremely well programmed (take it from me, I'm a programmer by trade). The ability to add parental controls (like maximum play time per day) keeps our five year old from playing this one all day!
