Amazon.com Review

Your Hot Wheels track comes to life in Hot Wheels StuntTrack Driver 2, an action-packed adventure that beats the socks off mostNintendo racing games we've tried. Three-dimensional graphics make this gamerealistic and very cool; slinging mud and dirt while making death-defying jumps, and wicked mid-air rolls and twists in some of earth's hottest all-terrainvehicles gets our vote for one of the most enjoyable activities ever to grace aCD-ROM.

There are six challenging racing courses that kids can master, from dodginggiant turtles at the beach to racing in eerie tunnels in a Jurassic Park-likesetting. It's serious business as kids wrestle the arrow keys, mouse, or gamepad (for the ultimate experience) to beat the clock and earn coin power-upswhile keeping crashes to a minimum. Once kids beat the records in the four mainracing courses, they'll qualify to compete in the ultimate races: two secret, hidden courses loaded with challenges. Once you've unlocked the secret courses, you're just a green light away from world fame on the Hot Wheels Stunt Trackcircuit.

Don't be surprised if, after playing this game, your kids get out their old HotWheels set and start setting up an obstacle course in the living room. Filledwith rip-roaring adventure and fast-paced play, this racing workout is hard tobeat. Kids can also design and build their own virtual courses and take a joyride in more than a dozen Hot Wheels cars and trucks. This CD-ROM is a must forkids of all ages, including adults who've got the need for speed. (Ages 5 andup) --Tina Velgos ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars it's very fun to play!
When I played stunt track driver 2, I was thrilled. When you play it, you can win a variety of cars, and you can try to open the two tracks that you can play if you open them in the championship.

5-0 out of 5 stars Color me happy!
Not only has my 8-year-old son had a ball with this game, my husband has, too! Software was easy enough for my son to install unaided and learn to play without assistance. The game is easy enough to figure out but very fun to play! Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars A huge disappointment
I've had the original Stunt Track Driver for almost two years. It was a good game because you raced on tracks throughout the house using a huge track layout you could never afford. It was also a fun game and incorporated tricks into the racing action. Unfortuantely Stunt Track Driver 2 doesn't live up to the expectations. The first problem is the graphics, they are more detailed than in the first game but these good graphics come at a big price. The game has a very low frame rate thus making you feel as if there is no sense of speed. Also, when you are in the middle of the race, the game sometimes pauses to load sometimes when in a turn or when you are in mid-air causing you to crash (this happens most notably in the Beach level and sometimes in the Garden level). But the graphics aren't the biggest problem of the game, the major problem is the huge difficulty of the game. I consider my self a hard core game player and have been playing games for over twelve years. It took me three days to beat the original Stunt Track Driver. I figured it would take even less time to beat the sequel. I was very wrong. In the championship mode, you are given 1 minute and 15 seconds to finish the first course. Even if you don't crash once, you won't finish the course within the time limit. You have to do huge combos of tricks at each and every jump to even have a chance of finishing the course within the alloted time. After I fianlly beat that course, the second course is even worse! The Garden track has turns that are hidden meaning you have to memorize the track to know when to turn without crashing. I doubt I'll ever beat this game. If, I, myself can't beat this game then what chance does a five year old have of even beating one course? If you don't have the any Stunt Track Driver game, buy the first one, it is less money and a whole lot of more fun. If you do have the orignal Stunt Track Driver, I reccomend Rush 2049. It has crazy jumps and a stunt mode and is a great game. And at least you know you'll be able to beat the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still Hot
Hot Wheels expands their interactive collection with yet another highly entertaining game about the die-cast cars we all grew up with. This game is especially entertaining for children as the race the cars on the computer as they do with their own tracks at home. It is also fun for the adult in bringing back memories and having a quality racing game. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's teacher trouble
Much enjoyed by a 3-year old. Easy to manage. Should be of interest to youngsters 3-8+

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for kids and parents!
We purchased this software for my daughter when she was younger and she adored it. Now that she's older, our 2 year old son has discovered her Living Books collection and he loves them, too! The story is wonderfully written (as are all of Marc Brown's "Arthur" tales) and translates well to the computer screen. I think I get just as many laughs out of the hidden objects as my son does! He was really excited when he found that some items, like Mr. Ratuburn's suit, show different results each time you click!

A wonderful cd-rom for your child. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great edutainment software!
Excellent education/entertainment package. Both of my kids love to click the screen (almost anywhere) and watch the action.

Arthur's fear of Mr. Ratburn (his new third grade teacher) is put to rest as Arthur begins to prepare for the spelling bee. Reading and spelling (as well as Spanish) are taught in this beautiful, exciting package that your kids will love.

Arthur's Teacher Trouble was the first "Living Books" title we purchased. We now own about a dozen, but this is by far the favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Teacher Trouble - Excellent trouble!
This CD is not only ingenius for kids, but parents will have just as much fun playing with it. The graphics are great and very clever. The best Living Book that I've seen to date. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Based on the popular PBS television show, Zoboomafoo Animal Alphabet takes kids on a guided tour of their ABCs, allowing them to brush up early reading and spelling skills while learning about animals from the Kratt brothers and their leaping lemur friend.

An educational activity center for children in the 3 to 6 years age range, this game offers a variety of simple minigames designed to build alphabet knowledge by capitalizing on a young player's curiosity about the animal kingdom. Users can color animal flash cards or play an arcade-style round of Penguin Pong, bouncing ice floes off each other to reveal the answer to a quiz question. Alternately, they can go to Animal Mixups, a top-notch activity where kids mix and match animals, grafting a zebra head, to take one possibility, onto a tiger torso, perhaps with a cow or reindeer tail to finish.

As an extra bonus, play is interspersed with lengthy live-action sequences from the television program. A win in one of the spelling games triggers a shot of the Kratt brothers going face-first into a mud pit. The Kratts and Zoboomafoo the leaping lemur also host a collection game, where players seek out animals whose names start with the different letters of the alphabet, and then get to see video footage of the creature itself.

Animal lovers and fans of the show should enjoy Zoboomafoo Animal Alphabet thoroughly, especially if they have never seen a game of this type before. More experienced players may recognize that about half of its activities are standard fare, reworked versions of games that appear repeatedly in educational software. This is the only complaint to be made, though, with what is otherwise a completely engaging game with lots of fascinating animal facts and great potential for teaching young learners some basic reading skills. 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice mix of learning and fun
My 3 year-old really enjoys this game. It is perfect for a child who is learning her capital letters, but who is not quite ready for phonics yet. Also, while the graphics aren't superb, they are good enough for a pre-schooler and make her feel like she is interacting with the show. The CD-ROM also has a nice variety of games where different skill sets are tested. My only reservation is that that the software seems to have a few glitches on my Windows XP.

4-0 out of 5 stars a good collection...
of games that teach spelling, reading and letter recognition. In addition to this, are the usual colouring and puzzle games. The positives: my 3 year old is quickly learning how to spell simple words and seems to enjoy the animal movies and graphics. The negatives: the font they've used for the games utilizing the alphabet is quite difficult to read (the k could be an x, etc.) Easy readability is crucial to a teaching program such as this, when will they learn? Also, the "Penguin Pong" program needs a patch but it is easily retrieved if you go to the Learning Company's website.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pass On This One
With all the software titles available now days, I would suggest passing on this one. My child loves animals and learning, however, this is one of our least favorites. Maybe this is because we have access to more software (family "hand-me-downs") so this one just sits. After using this a few times I kept thinking there would be more substance, there isn't. I would suggest one of the JumpStart learning series (jumpstart advanced preschool etc.).

2-0 out of 5 stars kids and parents deserve better than this lame software
I am really startled at the praise this software is getting. We own approximately twenty software titles for children and I would rank this as one of the three worst. In its favor it does not crash, but the quality of both format and content is poor.

First off, the resolution is bad. We've run this game on a Macintosh laptop and desktop computer, and the introductory footage looks fuzzy on both.

The live-action introduction is fun for fans of the show, but the few live-action sequences in the game's interior are not enough to keep little ones happy. The Kratt brothers are charming hosts of the television show but we don't see enough of them in this game. After the introduction children see a pan-and-scan version of Animal Junction populated with twenty-six clickable animals, each representing a different letter of the alphabet. When kids click on one of the animals, they receive a "page" with a picture and an assortment of facts about that creature, though in eight instances a child is presented instead with a game (more about these later). Confusingly, when a game is finished we hear Zoboo say, "That was great! Here's your animal page. Do you want to play again?" Instead of seeing an animal page, kids get a Yes-No choice. If they choose Yes they go to a game repeat. If they choose No they then go to the appropriate animal page. Did they beta test this at all?

Finally, the games are neither well-explained nor are they well-designed for children. Penguin Pong, even at the lowest of three difficulty levels, moves slowly and, in the vein of the classic game Pong, you have to knock out 49 blocks. It takes forever and kids get bored. Similarly interminable, the letter scramble is also a mess. A child must rearrange letters to form the name of a pictured animal, then click on a virtual spinner to advance Zoboo 1, 2, 3 or 4 spaces on a "game board". First complaint: when a child uses a letter from the scramble list it remains active, which is confusing for little ones. Second complaint: the game board is 35 spaces long -- it takes at least nine scrambles, and usually many more, for Zoboo to get to the end. Third complaint: when Zoboo does finally reach the 35th square, nothing interesting happens, unless you count that now-familiar non sequitur, "That was great! Here's your animal page. Do you want to play again?" What's the lesson here -- lowered expectations? In the Noodle Hut game, Zoboo asks for a letter and your child is supposed to click on it amid a field of noodles, each with a letter on it. But even at the lowest difficulty level, there are multiple examples of letters, again confusing to little ones. If there are three "R"s, which one should they click on? Also, some of the letters are presented at a three-quarter view which makes them less recognizable. Why would you do that to young children just learning their letters? My final complaint, and an important one, is that the games are not presented within any story or context to make them either interesting or meaningful.

I could continue to find fault with each of the other games, but why bother? This is lazy, sloppy software that is not good enough for your child. Instead, buy Blue's Clues or Franklin or Reader Rabbit software -- consistently well-designed and well-written. It is strange and disappointing that PBS, long considered THE leader in creative educational children's programming and products, seems to be faltering in the wake of recent competition.

Our family will continue to watch and enjoy the Zoboomafoo television show, but this software is a loser.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantasy Dressing Artist Designer Dream for Every Princess
This is soooooo fun and beautifull and all the princesses! No problem at all with my computer in installing and the voices are beautifull and clear. I guess the sound in the other reviewer's computer must have had a problem. This is the BEST fashion cd rom with the plus of having the princesses in it that I have seen. My daughter is 4 and can play with it. But its a discovery type game, ie you find out how everything works as you get more familiar with it. In the beginning things seem not to be working but with time you see that OH, now I have to drag and click not just click, or OH here you have to click on the icon first and then on the picture for it to do what you want! Have patience and you will become an expert princess! Very cheap for the amount of stuff you can do with it, also grows with the child. For young ones mom should play with it BEFORE the child to avoid initial frustration so you can explain some of the quirks to her first. Happy princessing this is a dream!

4-0 out of 5 stars We Love Cinderella

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotcha Gopher Is Great!
This is the best software purchase I have ever made! My son is 2 1/2 years old and loves this game. In a very short time, he has learned all major colors, can count almost to ten, knows when and how to use a drill, hammer, and screwdriver, and how to follow directions (to name only a few!). I am a high school math and science teacher and am very picky about educational games for my children. This is a wonderful game to start with. The graphics are great, the sounds are pleasing, and the fun never ends for my child!

5-0 out of 5 stars FUN, FUN, FUN!
My three year old twins had not been anywhere near a computer when we introduced them to the computer with this game. This game is so appealing to children, and easy to follow and understand. It has several clear choices of games, based on real Fisher-Price toys, which all children are familiar with. Instructions are given verbally to the kids, with the objects blinking to demonstrate at the same time. In no time at all my kids learned to move the mouse and click on the toy of choice. After the pointing and clicking was learned, minimal parental help was needed. The program continues to give verbal and visual prompts and reminders, and the set-up is clear. Since this program also has several different games to choose from, any interest or skill can be used, keeping the short attention span of children stimulated. My kids love all the choices, from the vehicles used to get from point A to point B, to baking cookies, to working with tools, to matching shapes to fill in/build an object of choice (such as a castle), to building their own working car, to drawing or doing crafts, and on and on... This is a fantastic program for young ones. So fun, in fact, that I now have to limit computer use!

5-0 out of 5 stars Our Favorite Program
This program is the favorite program in my Early childhood Special Education classroom. It is easy for the 3-5 year olds to do independently and they like how it relates to toys in the classroom. Our special favorite is the workshop where you get to hammer and drill to make a toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fisher Price Learning In Toyland CD
This is a wonderful program for children who are just beginning to use the computer and they enjoy it after they develop this skill, too. Children as young as three can master the program. I find it is very good for my beginning kindergarten students. It gives a lot of good practice in using the computer's pointing device. Children learn to follow directions and improve thinking skills. Plus, it is FUN!

5-0 out of 5 stars Warbirds - The closest experience to WWII air combat
My first experience with Warbirds was back in August 1995 when it was known as Confirmed Kill. The version I'm reviewing now is the downloadable version of Warbirds III. Warbirds is primarily a massively multiplayer WW2 air combat simulation. Although there are some offline training missions, the online experience is what makes Warbirds special. The best single player flight simulation doesn't come close to giving you a realistic air combat experience. Imagine flying with/against hundreds of other skilled human pilots and not some flawed AI! Players select one of four "countries" identified by colour (gold, green, red, purple). Get noticed for your combat skills and you may be invited to join the many virtual squadrons which greatly enhance the online experience. There are also organised scenarios which recreate historical battles and these are really the greatest experiences an online pilot can participate in.
Naturally a good internet connection to the servers is critical to having a good experience.

You can choose to fly any of the numerous (and growing) list of aircraft, fighters, bombers, transport planes and even drive ground vehicles. The simulation strives to model aircraft performance as accurately as possible and that is one of the strengths of the simulation (although there are reduced realism arenas for new pilots).

Warbirds III is a major improvement over the previous incarnation graphically...breathtaking graphics! Unfortunately that does mean older systems and graphics hardware aren't supported (my voodoo3 had to be replaced with a GeForce3 Ti200). Pilots don't have the hardware but still want the great experience can revert to Warbirds 2. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun and entertaining game!
There is not all that much change in the difficulty of questions, making it seem like the 4th edition, rather than a Kids edition, and still missing sound effects in the show that the 1st and 2nd edition games had,why did it's publisher do that? Aside from that this is a great game for all ages, and I like that you can get codes from the web-site for unlimited lifelines, and Regis seems a little more perked up compared to the 3rd edition. The fastest finger is like on the show, and question difficulty (compared to the show) is a little bit more on track for a change compared to past editions, and another good reason to get this game is IT PLAY's IN FULL SCREEN!! About time...the last few Millionaire games play the size of a post-card in the middle of your screen, for the hefty-price tags on these games, you should at least be able to read the questions! Anyways this has to be the best edition in the series yet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected
Well, I bought this game thinking that it would be really easy kid questions that kids can answer, that weren't that tough. After buying the game and playing it I figured out that the questions were really hard. Some questions my mom couldn't figure out. I would recomend this game if you like hard questions with an occasional easy question.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but HARD
This is a really fun game!! But some of the questions are hard! When our relitives came to our house for Christmas, it took them probably at least several hours and at least two times starting over before they finally got it. I think the questions are aimed at kids that are about 10, 11. But still, this is a fun game. I would recommened it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Sensitive Children
My 8 year old son was so looking forward to this game, and likes to play it because he likes answering the questions to see how high he can get, but he's wound up in tears over the nasty comments made by Regis (paraphrase - "It's OBVIOUS the correct answer is 'c' - DUH!"), and is frustrated when tricks not found on the show like the phone a friend person not being home fouls up the game. Perhaps older children or ones that are less sensitive may find this funny, but if your child is sensitive at all or you are trying to teach your child good sportsmanship, I would definitely not recommend this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids and adults to play together!
This is a wonderful cd-rom. My daughter and I have so much fun playing each other. She is learning so much. We played the one we have so much that is is scratched and she has begged me to order another one. I would recommend it to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! This is a fantastic program!
This is one of the best educational software programs I have ever seen. The graphics, interface design and games are fantastic. My daughter is fascinated with history and she loves exploring the different places and times around the world. I love the fact that kids can earn crafts to do offline. The crafts are related to the historical time period and they are very simple and easy to make with minimal supplies. The directions are short and simple and they provide all needed templates, outlines, etc. For example, you can make an Incan headress with just paper, and a pilgrims vest out of a paper bag. You can also earn stickers to print and put on your own wall map or print the one they provide. This is just a superb program and one your child is sure to enjoy! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written
This program has lots of potential however it is lacking in several areas. The first is that there are clitches and if an area is clicked on erroneously then the program freezes. I had to shut down the computer each time and reboot. Also the instructions and some of the games are too complicated for my soon to be 5 year old. Others were really fun for her. The most frustrating however is that I never did figure out what I had to do in Belle's Writing Room to complete this section in preparation for the Surprise Ball (and I have a medical degree). If anyone knows please email me so we can at least see the dress we picked out and the music and dance we created.

3-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining for a while..
My girls are 3 and 5 and had a hard time with this game.
There are several areas that require skills above them.
They did enjoy the other parts of the game, but once they finished they didn't really want to play again. ... Read more
