Amazon.com Review

Combining one of childhood's most enduring toys with the current crazefor Harry Potter, this game has a capacity for entertaining young players thatis almost magical. LEGO Creator: Harry Potter lets you use standard LEGOblocks to construct a world for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Then you get to turnthem loose in it! Whether setting up a postal route for Harry's owl, practicingspells with the kids of Hogwarts or using the workshop to configure the LEGObuildings and structures, players will find this game thoroughly absorbing.

LEGO Creator: Harry Potter is atypical of children's programs, whichusually run players through a fixed set of activities or educational challenges.Instead, game designers have made a serious effort to leave things wide open andflexible, sticking close to the reason why kids enjoy LEGO in the first place.Players can place LEGO units--animals, characters, blocks, doors, chests--aroundthe landscape of Hogwarts. But this is no mere simulation of a real-life playexperience--this LEGO world is animated! With a single mouse click, playersbring their creations to life. Place a LEGO snake onscreen in this game, and itwill promptly slither for cover. Likewise, the Harry Potter characters--who areincredibly charming when rendered as standard LEGO people--will move around theenvironment created for them, even interacting when they come together!

While the complexity of this package makes it tougher to master than many games,a series of tutorials disguised as challenges can smooth out the learning curve.Users explore the school, build LEGO trains, and find lost animals, and as theydo, they learn the lay of the land. The challenges have another motivator builtin: without them, you can't cast all the magical spells otherwise available toHarry and the others.

LEGO Creator: Harry Potter frees you to build a stage and place upon itthe well-known characters from J.K. Rowling's novels. What happens next islimited only by your imagination. --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This Product!
Lego Creator: Harry Potter is a dumb game. It has tons of errors.
It's slower then a snail. I get very bored when playing this. Lego should of tested this a ALOT MORE! In the Credits and the website it says that it was tested and passed the standerds. There standerds must not be very high because this game is horrible. It frezzes on my computer alot. I figuired I didn't meet the System Requirements...but I did. In fact, I was higher then it recommeded. It asked for 65 RAM. I have 128 RAM. It asked for Pentium 2 266 MHz. I had that. It asked for a 4x CD-ROM drive. I had 56x! Lego hurried through the process of making software. They hurried because they wanted it to come out when the movie did. I had read the other bad reveiws but that did not make me stop wanted it. I got as a present for my birthday. The reviews were right after all. It did what it said it would do. In the beginning when you start the game they have a intro movie (I got to say it is pretty funny!) and it shows Hogwarts changing all the time and stuff like that. After that you get excited and want to play like crazy! And then it stops completly and its crashed. Then the fun and excitment go's right out of you. Before it crashes it's still itsn't that fun. It's slow and every time you place a mini-figuire or a model it dosen't place it in the world. Plus you got this annoying little wizard thing that talks and talks and talks more. He is a help opition but most the time he dosen't help you. You can turn him off but still he dosen't talk as much but still does! I am 10 years old and I even get mad when it frezzes. This can be annoying to 5 through 8 year old kids. It comes with a free demo program. I installed one of them and it crashed before it even showed the intro movie! I installed many others and they do the same thing! That shows that Lego hurries through there Software products.

A Short Pros and Cons List:

Pros:
Build in the workshop and anything possible!
Build your own people or mini-figuires.
Go inside Hogwarts and install furniture.

Cons:
Frezzes Up ALL the Time.
Very Slow.
Dosen't paint it's self correctey. (Example: Somtimes grass is red!)
A Annoying Help Wizard is always with you.

5-0 out of 5 stars LEGO Creator Harry Potter
This game is pretty fun, but has some errors.

1.Playing

You can play in Daigon Alley, Platform 9 3/4, Hogwarts Grounds, and Hogwarts. Depending on where you are, you can build things that transport you to areas like Hagrid's hut, the forbidden corridor, and other places.

2. Building

You have a giant virtual model book, which has different things in each area. You drag models into the world, like people, scenery, and animals. Then, you hit play and they run around, greeting each other and casting spells. They react differently to each other depending on which house they are from. You can even make your own students and sort them manual or randomly into a house!

In the workshop, you can build your own models to either make building instructions for to print out to build them with real bricks, or place them in the world for decoration.

Pros:

1. Enourmas flexibility

2. Entertaining minifigures

3. Original Idea

4. Fun tutorials

Cons:

1. Only works on a powerful computer with lots of uncompressed space. (Like mine)

2. You can't put any model anywhere

3. DIfficult to use controls

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring and no point in playing it
This game is a little pointless and boring. All you do is watch lego Harry Potter people walk around, bump into things for hours, say "ah" and bow. This is not an adventure game. Sure, you can build stuff for the lego guys to walk into, but then what? Watch them all crowd around to get in it and then get stuck? Boring.
There is a bug: the challenge movies freeze and won't work and the computer feaks out. :(
The best thing(and funniest)thing that happened on this game was when my brother put a naked lego guy in a tiny cage and we watched him try to get out. You can also put hundreds of boats in the lake, trap ten thousand frogs in a 3"x 3" fence and make Harry get stuck on the roof of the castle and watch him fall to his doom.
But if you are insane about Harry Potter than this is for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars HIDEOUS GAME for a Great Theme
This product has two solid names behind it -- Lego and Harry Potter, and it SHOULD be a GREAT game.

In fact, this is a game released on schedule, but before being finished. Its controls are contra-intuitive, clumsy, and v-e-r-y s-l-o-w. It locks up and freezes, some times coming back and executing your mouse click up to a minute after you've thought it didn't take, and have moved on. When it's running, it's sensitve and twitchy. Those who have said the controls are bad or frustrating are being quite kind. It takes hours to get the simplest things set up.

Then, when you're finished, you can't actually DO much with your creations.

Lego has a variety of software titles and should include good products; perhaps the second title, "LEGO Creator: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" will be usable and fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter is cool! This is not!
I agree with most of you that this game most people shouldn't buy! This game is very, I MEAN VERY, hard to control!!!
I just hope you guys don't have to suffer through what I have. Trust me, this is not a great item unless you collect Lego(Tm)
or Harry Potter(Tm) things.

Read Below if you are still going to buy anyways.

On the box it says ages 6+ can play and control, well I am 13 and I couldn't even control this!

The Harry Potter Legos are still fun to play though. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Great Games
We actually purchased all of the titles individually when they were first published (we still don't have the Friends game). They are all very good games. My 6 year old son has learned to play Chess so well from this that he can beat his parents more than half the time. Legoland was so addictive that he and I played nothing else for about 2 weeks straight. I still find I like creating parks from scratch.

My only complaint: Can't run Lego Creator under Windows XP. Lego Alpha Team's sound is dodgy under Windows XP. I wish Lego Media would provide a minor patch for these products.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not impressed.
I bought this software for my son, who is a Lego fanatic. His favorite is the Legoland software, where you build your own amusement park. This seems great until you try to play it for awhile and it keeps telling you that you are low on items. Even after you add everything it still dumps you out so you have to start again. Very frustrating for a kid or adult! We haven't played the chess game yet, but the others are far from being the best games on the market.

4-0 out of 5 stars Chess Master wannabe
This review is specifically for the Lego Chess cd. My 5 year old absolutely loves it and has enjoyed it for hours on end. That cd alone is worth the price of the whole set! It is very user-friendly and he has gotten so good as a direct result of playing Lego Chess that we will be entering him in grade level tournaments in January. With your choice of cowboy, pirate, and soldier themes and a variety of animations that take place when a piece is captured makes this game a learning experience that is great fun! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The most detailed game I own!
If you want a game with your favorite lego technic vehicles, awesome race/battles, and most of all, incredible realism, then this is the game for you!

This game offers 3 different modes of play:

Quick Race-Random Track and Vehicle
Arcade-Chose your track and Vehicle
Career-Work through the Multi-Challenge Races to win the Drome Racers cup!

There are also 3 different types of terrain and vehicles:

-Street
-Off-Road
-Drag Race

A street race normally takes place in a big city. In a street race, the cars have thin racing slicks and are faster than the off-roaders.

An off-road race takes place on a dirt track. Off-road races have "hazards" such as tornado, lava, falling boulders, etc. The cars have thicker tires and are the slowest of all.

The drag race stage is much different. The cars are automatically manual transmission, so you don't just hold down the accelerator the whole way down the long strip of pavement. Be careful! If your rpm's get to high, your engine will blow.

So, once again, if you like extremely detailed lego racing, buy this game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good
This game isn't what I would call the best in the whole world, but, like the above title, it's pretty darn good!
The cool-named cars are awesome and more advanced than the ones in the other Lego Racers games, and the graphics are very nice. This game can be a little confusing at first, but in time you'll get it.
So in other words, this game is very fun and fast-paced, so I recommend that you should buy it! ... Read more

If your child covets your socket wrenches or, worse yet, your blowtorch, this program might help keep your shop tools (and your child) safe a bit longer.Tonka Power Tools will have mini mechanics building things like dragstersand robots, using a plastic power tool. The tool that comes with this game won'tdrill real holes but it is a real piece of hardware that connects to your CPU'sgame port and monitor port. Setup is fairly simple, depending on how you feelabout exploring that dusty jumble of cords behind your computer. Plugging andunplugging the power tool could prove a cumbersome task for parents who share acomputer with their kids. The only other option is to leave the power toolplugged in, and act like it's perfectly normal to have a screaming yellow Tonkatool perched next to the mousepad.

This Windows-only program offers three activities and three games, introduced bybuff-armed, jovial Tonka Joe. The activities all involve building cool thingsthat can be saved and printed. There's a wood shop for constructing forts andcastles, a metal shop for designing all manner of vehicles, and a tech lab forrockets, robots, time machines, and the like. The ever-versatile power toolcomes into play here: pointing the Teflon tip at the screen and squeezing thetrigger selects an activity, twisting the collar on the tool selects one of 24different power-tool tips to use on a project, then pointing and triggeringagain gets the job done. We really liked arc welding, which made the screenflash so realistically we considered donning sunglasses. The three games havethree levels, and are good exercises in logic, spatial applications, and findingthe right tool for the job. A pit-stop game requires kids to quickly fixracecars that roll in needing repairs. A Tetris-like construction gamehas players affixing panels to a house as they fly in from all screendirections. And in The Safe Game kids use their tool to solve puzzles, usingvisual cues to "crack" a series of locks and win the treasure contained in thesafe. Decent games, one and all, that will please tool lovers, and provide thetool-impaired with a gentle introduction to the differences betweenPhillips-head and flat-head screwdrivers.

A final word: the plastic power tool is quite light, but the games areengrossing enough that it's possible to hold it to the screen for long, fatiguing periods of time. Now we know why Tonka Joe has such beefy arms. Perhaps Tonka Power Tools should be marketed to adults as a tricepstoner. (Ages 5 and older) --Anne Erickson ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars POWER TOOL WILL NOT WORK ON WINDOWS XP
After MANY frustrating attempts to install the power tool, I went to the Hasbro website and found out that you can ONLY play the game with the mouse if you have Windows XP...what a bummer this was to my six and four year old sons. They still have fun playing it with the mouse, but it is not their first choice.
Thankfully, I ordered this when it was 50% off, or Tonka Joe would really be on my list!!

5-0 out of 5 stars kids love this one
My son is 4, and can manipulate the mouse (you can play this without the "power tool" too). I can't believe how much he's learned about the computer from this game, and I get a kick out of his coming to tell me he "needs to do some arc welding". Even my daughter who's 11 thinks it's not too bad, and that says something, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game Once You Get It To Work!!
I bought this software for my son's birthday. I couldn't get the drill to work like many who have commented here. I visited the Hasbro website that gave me the link to the new owners of the software (Infogrames). I was able to e:mail my difficulties to a technician through their Customer Support Window. The technician e:mailed me several suggestions on how to configure my machine to try to get the drill to work. Once I made the change the drill worked IMMEDIATELY. I had to pry my son off the computer last night, he was having so much fun. If you have troubles running it on your machine, I recommend visiting the Infogrames support ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Toy But here is Warning
This is a great toy. My grandson loves it BUT BEWARE you will need a legacy game port. An USB game port adapter WILL NOT WORK!

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work.
This thing sells for ten bucks at Compoosa, so I picked it up for my boys. Too bad it didn't do a thing. I happen to know I wasn't doing something monkeybrained...I'm a veteran Software Engineer with 22 years of experience beginning on the Apple2 (rivaling even The Great Remy). I tried the toy out with 4 different video cards on 3 different computers. Nothing. Hasbro is incapable of helping (they just sell it, they didn't make it). Even as a non-working PC accessory, though, it might be worth 3 bucks. Cut off the cord and put it in the kids' regular toy box. Otherwise, it's useless. ... Read more

Construct and operate a functioning space station with an arsenal ofout-of-this-world Tonka vehicles. Drive a Tonkonium Extraction Vehicle through amaze of lava pools and explosives, or speed a Terra Racer through thelow-gravity zone of the station's sporting arena to entertain your station crew. InTonka Space Station, you decide whether to build defense grids todemolish hazardous space waste, or focus on food production for your many hungryworkers. With the ultimate motor pool at your fingertips, the fate of thestation is entirely in your hands. Doing the job well can result inpromotion--work your way from a lowly Photon 3rd Class all the way up to GalacticCommander.

The game's primary goal is to build a functioning station, one that balances theneeds of its residents with other important considerations like safety, productivity, and research. To this end, players build modules--sporting arenas, habitats, communication hubs, defense grids, and harvest areas--on the platformsavailable in the station. To build a module, you're given a specialized Tonkavehicle and an arcade-style mission. To construct a harvest module, for example, players drive a bio-harvester through an obstacle course of hostile alien plantlife, snatching edible berries from the jaws--er, pods--of the carnivorousvegetation.

Tonka Space Station has some stunning anti-gravity effects, and themachinery and settings of the space-station activities are satisfyinglyrealistic. The need to stay on top of safety, industrial output, and thehappiness of the station's people provides an engaging framework for the mainfocus of the game: the arcade games and the Tonka vehicles these activitiesemploy.

In this sense, Tonka Space Station is slightly disappointing. Thevariation between the vehicles is not nearly as wide as it could be, and playersaccustomed to real-world Tonka products may yearn for more options thansteering, shooting, and avoiding danger. None of the vehicles, in other words, does anything as amazingly cool as what even the simplest front-loader orbackhoe can do. If you can get past that, however, this game is perfect forplayers who are interested in space sciences and enjoy simpler arcade-styleactivities. (Ages 5 and up) --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, with good visual effect
This is my son's favorite CD ROM game. It has variety of games to select with. I enjoy watching him play. However, he needs help with certain tasks. It is an exciting game which is not too difficult for children 5 and up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tonka Space Station is Worth a Second Chance
We purchased Tonka Space Station for our son's 4th birthday and found it a little advanced for him at the time. We almost took it back to the store but decided to keep it until he was a little older. When we pulled the game back out a few months later, we purchased a gamepad, since it was a little hard to manuever the spaceships with the mouse....this made all the difference!! My son loves the games now, especially collecting energy crystals and collecting space berries (he loves to shoot the alien weeds!)

1-0 out of 5 stars This can't be Tonka Joe
We purchased this computer program thinking it would be fun and enjoyable like all the other Tonka Joe adventures. All we found was pure disappointment. My son is very proficient on the computer and easily does Tonka Construction 1 and 2, Tonka Garage, and Tonka Search and Rescue but this program is not only difficult for him but it is even difficult for me and his 12 year old brother. My son still loves Tonka Joe but I am very surprised in the difference in products and was considering Tonka Raceway but now I may even reconsider that purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars tonka space station
My son has a few of the Tonka computor games and this is our least favorite. He had a hard time using the keyboard to move around and seem to be able to go to only one screen. We were so excited when we purchased this game because of the other Tonka games that he liked so much. This one went back to the store.

2-0 out of 5 stars Older titles more fun, better bet...
Of all the Tonka titles, this one is the least rewarding for me (as a parent), and least played (by my 6 year-old). When I purchased this product, I thought I was getting another fine Tonka software product. I wasn't.

The controls are keyboard-oriented, which makes it more difficult for a child to master. He is used to mouse-oriented controls (contained in the older Tonka titles). My six year old has a hard time remembering which key does what function. Even after playing if a few times, he doesn't enjoy it much.

Also, the game simply isn't as fun. The latter titles offered more interaction...more diverse play scenarios. This title lacks the "oomph!" that carried the other games.

If you're a first-time Tonka buyer, I'd reccommend either the Tonka Construction set or the Search and Rescue program. Oh, and be sure to check the system requirements before you buy! ... Read more

Welcome to LEGOLAND. But don't relax--you're not visiting this place; you're running it. And if you don't stay on your toes in this blocky little world, you'll have hungry guests, broken-down rides, and bankruptcy to deal with. This game, which requires a Windows operating system, starts with a phone call: "Congratulations, you just got the job as trainee park manager!" Upon reporting to LEGOLAND, you discover that a resident mad scientist recently managed to blow up the whole park. Your job suddenly gets more complicated, as your new boss, park manager Jonathan Ablebody, coaches you on how to put the park back together.

A series of tutorials teach the fundamentals of park management, from landscaping to ride repair. Free play is possible once the tutorials are mastered. The more a player builds, the more troubleshooting is necessary. Build too many rides and an alarm sounds--you'll need to build a power station to keep them all running. If you don't hire enough mechanics, rides break down. Panic and hire too many mechanics and you'll hear a "ka-ching" as your cash reserves are depleted by a bunch of lazy LEGO fix-it folks loafing around the park with nothing to do.

This game is about management, multitasking, and sucking up to the boss. The folks at LEGO Media even created the perfect supervisor. He pleasantly orders players to do difficult tasks while never deigning to lift one of his own little yellow pincers to help out.

Kids who have visited an actual LEGOLAND may enjoy slaving away in this virtual one. One warning: LEGO manages to plug the product with a selection entitled "Watch LEGOLAND Movies." Click on it and you'll end up watching an ad for LEGOLAND theme parks. Evidently the only creatures more ruthless than little plastic managers are the flesh-and-blood ones managing them. 3-0 out of 5 stars " Not what I expected it to be"
This game was pretty good but did not meet satisfaction. Here are the reasons.
1. The game is kind of boring because you only build castles and minatures
2. The building and the graphics are good but the space to work in is not very good
3. On the box it says you rescue the fair damsel, it dosen't seem you rescue anyone
4. Overall the game is 3 stars due to being boring and and lack of action.

2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointing Creator wannabe
Once again, a Lego game that can't handle the size of my imagination. I was really excited when this game came out because I'd been longing for knights and castles and such in Creator. I just wanted to be able to build the coolest castles ever, that I could never build in real life because I didn't have enough pieces. But the building area in Knights' Kingdom is tiny! The only really cool thing I remember being able to do was turn a castle transparent and then paint it a different color, but have it stay transparent. So I made a ghost castle! But after that I gave up, because I couldn't make any of my ideas work in the space I had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this awesome game!
I just turned eleven. This game is really awesome because you can design and create your own lego castles on your PC. The people "come to life" and you can play inside your finished castle. You are able to take pieces out of a "lego bucket" and color them and design them however you'd like. I took this game out of the library and it's on my Christmas list!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is so much fun!
This game is tons of fun. You get to set up your own kingdom and then bring it to life. You can make the characters battle--my son loves that part! The controls take some getting used to but if you actually do all of the tasks at the beginning you'll have no problem becoming a knight! ... Read more

Armed with pizzas, a skateboard, and a cool attitude, Pepper Roni--a freckle-faced pizza delivery boy--must save LEGO Island from a bad guy called the Brickster. Our hero dude travels from the depths of the sea to the outer limits of space (to Ogel Island... get it?) in pursuit of his man in this engrossing CD-ROM.

Boasting a whopping 18 subgames scattered throughout an intricate realm of islands, undersea worlds, deserts, and space, LEGO Island 2 focuses more on adventure and less on construction than previous LEGO titles. Players assume the identity of renaissance dude Pepper; pizza delivery, deep-sea diving, astronaut training, and jousting are just a handful of the well-rendered experiences that await adventurers. The arrow keys get quite a workout as the game progresses, as they control everything from speedboats to parachutes to tyrannosaurs as Pepper changes modes of transport. Pepper churns through this world fending off the Brickster's henchmen robots, collecting pages of a "constructopedia," and mastering various challenges in order to progress. Subgames must be completed in a sequence, and can then be re-accessed from Pepper's house. Players must work to build Pepper's pad, find the subgames, and chat with other characters for clues about how to move through this LEGO landscape. Players who want it all handed to them on one clickable screen will be frustrated: LEGO wants you to work for your pleasure, and get some calluses on those fingertips.

The charm of this impressive Windows-only program lies in the attention paid to detail, dialogue, and creative fun. The undersea game doesn't just have fish--it has narwhals and rowdy pirate skeletons growling curses. A knight straight out of Monty Python and the Holy Grail intones "Nay, nay, nay, one-who's-name-is-a-spice" when Pepper asks for help. Creators put a skateboard park on the island just for the heck of it. LEGO Island 2 provides both great gameplay and ample opportunity to freestyle. Also, the fluid detail of this program belies the chunky origins of LEGO life as we know it.

That detail comes with a price: it takes some time to load the subgames and scene changes even if your system meets the game's requirements. If LEGO Island 2 were one of Pepper's pizzas, it'd be an ultra mega deluxe, piled high with mummies, pterodactyls, and renegade robots. It'd also take a longer time to bake than your plain cheese, but the wait would be worth it. (Ages 6 to 99) --Anne Erickson ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars It don't work!
Now, I realise that computers are different from PC to PC. But mine exceeds the requirements. I have WIN98SE. I'm very good with computers. Lego Island Xtreme works perfectly. Lego Racers 2 locks up on occation, but works good most of the time. But this thing won't even load. The screen starts to go black and then there's an error, drop to desktop. Annoying! Gonna try it with another machine soon. But I'm glad I didn't pay much for this because somebody gets whatever money I paid (not amazon, got it elsewhere) and I get a game that doesn't work. Very flawed series on the programming side. Buyer beware of products from Lego. Read user comments before you buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible
Bought this for my son as a Christmas gift. We had an older system that ran Windows 95/98. It ran, but took FOREVER to load the different themes. We bought a brand new system with Windows XP and now it won't run Lego Island 2 at all! We tried patches and checked the Electronic Arts website for troubleshooting with XP. My husband has his Master's degree in computers and he couldn't get it to run! Don't buy it if you have a new system with Windows XP. This game is not compatible.
The Learning Co and Humongous software run perfect with XP.

4-0 out of 5 stars Challenging and cool
First of all you start the game as Pepper, a pizza delivering dude with the food. But as soon as you give a pizza order to the evil Brickster, he escapes. While exploring lots of different islands this game offers challenging sub-games and fun adventures. The last level can be very frustrating because it freezes and thats why I gave it 4 stars but the whole game is just plain fun. You can ride in the skatepark and play any sub-game that you have already won. There are tons of ways to explore, by dinosaur , by helicopter, and more! To sum it all up, Lego Island 2 is a great game except for it takes to long to load but the gameplay is beutiful with sharp grafics.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't get the...software to work.
This software won't load onto a brand new PC. I've had to browse into the disk to load the pieces of the program, and even then it works only spottily. Takes forever to pieces to load -- and this is with an up-to-date system. I have another friend who's in the computer business and he's had a lot of frustrating problems with this program for his kids, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars its very cool
You can play helicopter and boat, skate and car(i think).I love it ,ill will play with my friend in 3 hours.ill love this its 5 stars really .Yeah its cool but my friend hate it but my i love it i want it i twist it i dance it... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Download the demo, seems to have graphical issues
Before buying this game I went to the infogrames website and downloaded a demo, I suggest you do the same. Now this really isn't a big issue and since I am not 2, and won't be playing this game it probably doesn't matter to much but the game has graphical problems. For instance, in the demo the truck sometimes appears in front of object that it should appear behind (ie. the crane). It worries me that if the demo has such an obvious flaw then maybe the real game is only worse.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun for Little Kids
My 2-1/2 year old son loves this game. You can switch between four vehicles and do different activities by driving around Tonka Town. My son especially likes chasing and bumping the bad guys out of town as a police car, putting out the fires as Hook and Ladder fire engine and the race game. There are different levels of the game you can progress through and you can get a certificate everytime you finish a task. I only wish that the game allows you to stay at or adjust to a difficulty level instead of automatically bumping you to a harder level when you finish a task. Although this game may be too easy for kids over 6, I think it's great for pre-schoolers. ... Read more

Build pinwheels, growth charts, birthday-party decorations, or just doodle with this program designed to placate the budding Picasso--or Martha Stewart--in your child. Pajama Sam's One-Stop Fun Shop is an arts-and-crafts CD-ROM that offers far more than point-and-click paintbrushes. Kids can mix their own colors; choose from a huge array of backgrounds, predrawn artwork, and stamps; or work freehand to make their own creations. Then, with the help of printed instructions, they can transform their artwork into envelopes, party hats, finger puppets, or anything else that can be crafted from printed-on sheets of 8.5 by 11 computer paper.

Parents, are you shuddering right now? Are you envisioning reams of paper with odd little projects on them flying from the printer? Hundreds of dollars for printer ink flying from your wallet? Humongous Entertainment knew you'd be concerned. They've put a control on this program, so you can dictate how much (or little) paper gets used. There's also an option that eliminates background printing to save ink. One caveat: you must get to this area, called Parent's Printer Saver, before your computer savvy six-year-old does. A kid who's a good navigator could conceivably lock you out of this spot. If controlling how much your child prints is important to you, be sure to access the printer-saver function when it's time to print the first project, and set your controls and password. When we didn't use the option on the first printing, it didn't come up for us on subsequent printings ... so bully your way into the Fun Shop and make sure you're at the controls for that first project.

Pajama Sam fans will love this CD-ROM, as they make P.S. paper airplanes, letterheads, place mats, etc., etc. There's enough non-Pajama Sam artwork to keep purists happy as well. You'll need more than a computer and a printer to finish some of these items. Plan on using up some glue, pushpins, tape, and dowels to bring these items to full-blown "matches the picture on the box" glory. (Ages 3 to 8) --Anne Erickson ... Read more

It's a whole new way of playing with LEGOs: no blocks required! Kids still need a vivid imagination, but in today's tech-savvy world, they'll also need a 3-D graphics accelerator card. Racers allows players to build, customize, and race both cars and drivers. Building is unlimited, and there's 12 different tracks in a variety of settings to choose from.

It's an interesting exercise to compare the real-life elements to their electronic counterparts. Any LEGO fan will recognize infamous opponents from their plastic incarnations; Captain Redbeard, King Kahuka, and Basil the Batlord are some of our favorites, and they're just as great-looking onscreen as they are in the toy chest kits. The level of hand-eye coordination required to build amazing cars is, we think, lower than with real LEGOS (and there's no dropping and breaking possible!). Parents don't need to buy a million different sets to get all desired pieces--they're all right there on the screen.

We found the racing arena to be a huge hit with arcade-game fans. The tracks are treacherous, the themes are wildly detailed, and there's lots of hidden power-ups and shortcuts for when your skill level increases. If you think you've got all the tracks mastered, try them out in reverse. It's harder than you might think! Drivers, start your engines, because LEGO Racers is worth the ride. --Jill Lightner ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lego Racers is EXCELLENT!!!!
Lego Racers was initially a challenge to my son, but rewarded him handsomely by opening up extra circuits and races after he mastered existing circuits. We always knew when he opened a new circuit, he got so excited! This has definitely been the "most-often-played" computer game we own. The sound effects are appropriate for a 6-year-old, but "bad" enough that he loved them; the songs lively; and the on-screen environment is realistic enough to really enjoy the various races.

The rest of us, and some extended family, have gotten into the game too, we range in age from 39 to 6. And all of us have enjoyed it. The "versus" races are very exciting and fun, especially when the 2 competitors are of similar skill.

I highly recommend buying this game, for any age, for a very entertaining and challenging (depending on your "racing game" skills, of course) use of your leisure time. There are enough shortcuts, surprises, unknowns, power-ups, and enough versatility to surpass the price tag. This is a lot of "bang for the buck." And don't forget, you can even build your own car with legos, name it; and assemble AND NAME the driver. "Gentlemen..... (and ladies and children....) START YOUR ENGINES!!"

We'll have Lego Racers 2 very soon.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lego Racers
Lego racers is a stunning game with moderately good graphics. It's fun to design and build your own car but it's hard to make exactly what you want. The game is challenging but not to hard to beat. There is a nice variety of tracks and there are recognizable lego characters. Also, it's fun to create your own wacky Lego characters, earning parts from winning race. The sound is nice and different characters say different fun things. I enjoyed this game, but it wasn't the best. Unless you really want to play Lego Racers, I suggest Nicktoons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to play, easy to understand even for parents
Previous to buying this game we only had educational software for my six year old son. It's a really easy game for a young child to use plus it helps raise interest and familiarity with computers. He's got really good at this and we'll buy more lego software I'm sure. The only downside to this game is that he's got so good at it that I don't stand a chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game.
Even though I'm a girl, I just love picking up racing games and adventure games for my computer or my PS2 and playing them. My brother got this "LEGO racing" game as a gift: and right away I started playing it. I was quite impressed with LEGO racing, though; I was expecting something more for 6-year olds that wasn't very challenging and only had something like 2 levels.

In this game, your goal is to become one of the greatest racers ever and try to beat the ultimate racer, Rocket Racer. You design a racer, or use a pre-made one. You start on Captain Redbeard, a very easy racer to beat, and work your way up to all 7 racers, all the way up to Rocket Racer, the hardest racer to beat. If you complete a "circuit race," then you will receive points, and move to the next racer. Single races are if you want to do a single race.

The most fun part of the game (in my opinion) is also power-ups + weapons. They help you get ahead of people or keep other people behind you. They are little floating Lego's in the air along the track and you pick them up to get a power-up or a weapon. There are four different colours of legos: each represents a weapon. To upgrade it, you need to pick up a white lego. You can only upgrade it 3 times (including when you receive it): the more you upgrade it, the more powerful the weapon is. There's four power-ups/weapons in this game:

Red Lego (things you have to aim at people): 1st: A regular bomb to throw at people 2nd: Clip thing that you hook onto a car and it brings you ahead. 3rd: A rocket-missile thing that tracks people down and hits them.
Yellow Lego (gas and tornado things to slow people down): 1st: gas that slows people down and swirls them around. 2nd: This little sucker that holds people back for a little while. 3rd: A mummy floaty thing that floats in the air and when people run into it then you'll get dizzy and stay there for a while.
Green Lego (power-ups to speed you ahead): 1st: A very little speed-booster that only lasts for 5 seconds. 2nd: A speed-booster that brings you about ¼ of the track ahead if you use it wisely. 3rd: A VERY good speed-booster that swirls around you and brings you ¼ of the track ahead.
Blue Lego (shields): 1st: It blocks you for a very short amount of time from other people. 2nd: A good shield that blocks you for a good amount of time and whenever someone shoots you with it turned on, it bounces of you and shoots back to them. Works GREAT on bombs. 3rd: Very much like the second upgraded shield except it lasts about 5-10 seconds longer.

Hope this was helpful. :) So click "yes" if this review is helpful to you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, but tough on your computer
I have this game and it is really fun!!!! The only reason I left out one star is because, like all LEGO games, it is really hard on your computer. I also had two other lego games, and together the three totally crashed the computer. My parents won't let us install any games on the computer now. It's a shame, because I really miss playing LEGO Racers. It's not extremely challenging, not if you're played other racing games and are good at them. However, beating Rocket Racer is very (underline ten times) difficult. One of my favorite things to do is creating my own racers to race with. You can mix-match different legs, bodies, heads, and helmets or hats to make your own cool/funny/wierd racer! So, its a great game, REALLY fun, but don't buy it unless you have a really powerful computer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great software 3D modeling and a game
I was very skeptical of how good a piece of Lego software could be when compared to the actual Lego building bricks. This software offers a very unique outlet for planning out Lego models, cities or just designs in general. There are unlimited pieces to build buildings, autos, helicopters, people and gardens. However the design space is limited to about 16 x 16 road pieces, which might be a lot for beginners, but not for expert city designers. All that being said, there are pre-made models and you can create models (and towns) and save them on your computer, but you can't swap the models with friends. When you have created your models there is a feature that creates building instructions for you and you can print them out and build the model with your own hands. When you are done creating a Lego town, there is a mode which lets you play it, everything moves, interacts, walks, drives, flies and explodes and you can watch it or drive behind the wheel of your Lego models.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST game!
We love this Game! Our whole family likes to play it! My son especially loves to build using this game. He's a big lego (actual toy) fan anyways, but with this game you can build a city and it comes to life right before your eyes! It's fun and you can keep adding things to make your city more commplex! Amazon.com Review

At first acquaintance, the basic "gaming environment" wherein LEGOCreator's players build their virtual bikes, choppers, cranes, and so on,and direct their dinky, cutesy, usually prebuilt minifigures, seems a little bitodd and unsettling--even bleak. Bleak enough to confirm the prejudices ofparents and others who would consider computerized LEGO a travesty of thehands-on, real-world ethos of the original construction game.

However, after a while, the cleverness of this CD-ROM comes to the fore. In thevirtual LEGO Creator world you don't just build things and then take them apart;you can make them fly at the touch of a button, give them apposite or ludicroussounds, change their color with a single mouse click--even blow them up(flamboyantly) using the special DESTRUCTA bricks.

You're then able to pilot your figures and vehicles through the very world youhave created, guided by an integral LEGO Creator Wizard--who is a bit like apermanently untiring, megabrainy parent. All in all, then, a rather fine andintelligent toy, albeit not one for the very young, or very active, or veryeasily dismayed. --Sean Thomas ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not XP compliant
This software will NOT work on XP operating system in any compatibility mode. There is no patch anywhere I could find.

1-0 out of 5 stars "Complex", "NOT User-Friendly", and "A Real Drag"
This software takes forever to load and once loaded it is painful to use. My son and I, both thought the program is overly complex and not intuitive. Time passed quickly while trying to build simple structures, which made the user loose interest and become bored. It also appeared to limit the users imagination & creativity that you typically have when using the real blocks. It definitely did not meet our expectations.

3-0 out of 5 stars Complex, Slow, and Realistic
This is good for people who like to build Legos, but don't have the pieces, but has some significant downsides. The creation inevitably takes long and is fairly complex. It's difficult to get a good view of your creations with the tools provided. It's slow and choppy for outdated computers (mine's 200 megahertz). On the plus side, this is realistic (compared to actually making a lego creation) and has some neat fun things (like dynamite). Ultimately, I only recommend this for people who like to build and have a computer with at least 500 megahertz.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun game for kids, not really THAT complicated
We just got this CD-ROM, and my 5 year old son LOVES it! We've had it for 4 days, and already he has mastered it. He only plays for about 45 min - 1 hr a day. I've not tinkered with it much, but my 5 yr. old seems to really know his way around it. I did read some of the other reviews, and while the game is obviously on a computer screen and not "real life", it is easy enough for my 5 yr. old to navigate after only a short time. Maybe us adults are too logical, and this is one of those games that children do better at than we do! Anyway, I would recommend this game - and did tonight to a mom for her son!

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth it
i got this game a while ago and i rarley play it anymore. this game doesent deserve half a star. there are no boats or planes, only helicopters. the only good part was playing. it's slow and the graphics and sound are bad for a PC game. Amazon.com Review

Combining one of childhood's most enduring toys with the current craze for Harry Potter, this game has a capacity for entertaining young players that is almost magical. LEGO Creator: Harry Potter lets you use standard LEGO blocks to construct a world for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Then you get to turn them loose in it! Whether setting up a postal route for Harry's owl, practicing spells with the kids of Hogwarts, or using the workshop to configure the LEGO buildings and structures, players will find this game thoroughly absorbing.

LEGO Creator: Harry Potter is atypical of children's programs, which usually run players through a fixed set of activities or educational challenges. Instead, game designers have made a serious effort to leave things wide open and flexible, sticking close to the reason why kids enjoy LEGO in the first place. Players can place LEGO units--animals, characters, blocks, doors, chests--around the landscape of Hogwarts. But this is no mere simulation of a real-life play experience--this LEGO world is animated! With a single mouse click, players bring their creations to life. Place a LEGO snake onscreen in this game, and it will promptly slither for cover. Likewise, the Harry Potter characters--who are incredibly charming when rendered as standard LEGO people--will move around the environment created for them, even interacting when they come together!

While the complexity of this package makes it tougher to master than many games, a series of tutorials disguised as challenges can smooth out the learning curve. Users explore the school, build LEGO trains, and find lost animals, and as they do, they learn the lay of the land. The challenges have another motivator built in: without them, you can't cast all the magical spells otherwise available to Harry and the others.

LEGO Creator: Harry Potter frees you to build a stage and place upon it the well-known characters from J.K. Rowling's novels. What happens next is limited only by your imagination. --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for ADD kids
Important to read the title of this software before you buy. This is a design or creator software. The word 'game' is not in the tilte, ..., doesn't mean that it will do everything $500.00 worth of legos will. Although, Lego (durable, expesive, children, and well known), Harry Potter (exciting, British, pagan, children, and well known), and Electronic Arts (software distributor, low cost, lacking patches / support, and well known) are well known, you should concern yourself with the audience before you buy. It is rated for everyone. This means no one will die, explode, or present shocking or contraversial graphics. It is a good product. It runs on my XP system, so I'm impressed. It says it comes with awards, but I didn't see them. This is not a first person shooter game. ... The visuals are a little hard to master. But if you pay attention, you can control the movement of the characters and zoom around like anyone else. Building is more difficult, yes. They could have done a better job developing and play testing the product, ... so you win some and lose some. Is it the best thing on the face of the planet, no. Could they have put some more time into this, oh yes. But for what you pay for, you cannot find this anywhere else.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Kindergartner Mom
The software was a gift for my son. He was so excited about it given that it is Harry Potter and Legos. He was not able to do anything in the software except type his name. When my husband and I tried to use it with him we had similar difficulty. We have not been able to advance from the initial screens. What a disappointment. Lego usually represents Quality to me. Perhaps they should have just stayed in the Block business.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Hard
Ok I made a person now what? I read the manual and that made it more complicated. It takes an hour to finish building a walkway. You need to be VERY paitent to play this game. I bought it and it was horrible.I hated it! So PLEASE listen and save your money! I can think of at least 20 other things to buy with the money I paid for it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice idea......but too complex.
I love the Harry Potter Series when i saw Harry Potter And The Sorcors's Stone (the PC game) i bought it and loved it when i saw this game i got it but the contents of the game was disappointing. The Lego people can't do anything but bump in to stuff and annoy the stuffing out of you. This game seems like it would be easier for adults, but i'm not sure i do know this though, this game is WAY to hard so for ages 13 and up anyone younger would surly die of being bored. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, good for many ages.
This was better than I expected. My 8 year old daughter received this as a gift. It states for ages 6+, which in many cases means that it looses it's appeal as the child gets older. But, I was surprised at how appropriate it was for an older child, even I had fun with it. The LOCO disc is just like playing with legos, only to the extreme, the other discs are more like typical computer games, but with interesting twists and not too much violence to worry about. It's a pretty good buy and will keep the kids interested for some time. The LOCO disc is endless in it's possibilities and uses many skills, it's "educational" and fun! ... Read more
