Amazon.com Review

The problem with sculpting in clay is the mess, and if you're a parent,it takes nothing more than hearing excited voices shouting, "Play-Doh!" to raisethe hairs on your neck and send you scrambling for the cheap tablecloth. Theidea, then, of a virtual clay studio is appealing--all the creative freedom kidswant, with none of the mess.

Disney's Magic Artist 3D satisfies that creative hunger, at least to alarge degree. Designed for the younger set, this basic 3-D modeling tool letskids build shapes of their own, apply textures, group objects, and manipulatethem onscreen. It also includes a modest library of such prebuilt shapes as acow, dog, couch, doghouse, fence, wagon, etc. Any shape can be added to anyscene, and then colored in a variety of ways--by using a paint bucket and acolor of your choice, or by selecting a predefined pattern. Adding a stripeddesign to a 3-D cow is always fun, especially when it's standing on acow-patterned couch.

The highlight of the program comes by adding Mickey Mouse himself to a scene. While this isn't an animation program, Mickey has some animated actions of hisown--adding him to your creations and pressing the play button makes him dothings like throw sparkles into the air.

The soundtrack and sound effects are first rate--good speakers make a nicedifference, too. Interesting and fun sounds reinforce the selected tool, helpingyou to remember which tool does what by differentiating it both visually andaudibly.

If you've got a little one that's dying to make things with his or her hands,Disney's Magic Artist 3D may be just the creative outlet you're alllooking for. (All ages) --MikeCaputo ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not the best for the money
Like many of the previous reviewers, this software is interesting but not worth the money. After playing with it for alittle while, you'll want to move on. I accidentally bought it thinking it was Magic Artist Classic or Magic Artist Studio (which I still plan to get). Like someone else wrote, wait until they come out with a future version (#2 or #3...).

1-0 out of 5 stars Disney 3D Magic Artist isn't all it's Cracked up to be
When you are in the store and you see this software... IGNORE IT! It is so limited. The box says you can draw a 3D object, but that object turns out to be a wall about one inch thick. Also, it does not allow you to layer the things you draw. The only semi-cool thing you can do is create a mickey mouse that has no eyes or fingers. This product is really for kids at the age of six or below. So if you go out thinking that you are getting a good deal for 3D animation/drawing tools, you are way off. All in all, on a scale from one to five, I give it a negative five, but that was not a choice in the ratings so I had to pick one. So in conclusion, IT STINKS LIKE ROTTON EGGS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun 3D excitement
We've had lots of fun with this game - it's neat to sculpt in 3D and play with a 3D mickey mouse. It's not exactly like the other cool Magic Artists, this is maybe good for older kids because they can understand how neat it is to create art in 3D!

2-0 out of 5 stars Go for the 2D version instead
My daughter was a veteran of Disney's Magic Artist Classic and the current Disney's Magic Artist. She unfortunately had problems with this program and the problem is translating the user-interface into something kids can understand. The 2D versions of Magic Artist followed the lead of programs like Kai's Power Tools by using image metaphors for the tools. Want to spray-paint your canvass? Pick up a can of spray paint. Want to have a crayon-like texture? Pick up a crayon. Alas, there are no metaphors which work well in 3D artistry so the buttons and tools in this program are not immediately intuitive. You REALLY have to read the manual to understand how to use the program. 3D Artist is also a bit of a resource hog. Even with 128MB of RAM, the program will stop us in the middle of a creation to tell us that we've run out of memory (Yikes!). You can also add only 1 color and 1 texture to each element of an object. You can color Mickey's head and his nose but you can't paint eyes on him or draw his face-mask. Animation of objects is also limited to a few sets of actions (spinning, hopping, zig-zagging, etc.). I should note that my daughter and I managed to deal with these problems and limitations because I've done 3D PC art before. My advice to you is to wait until Disney Interactive comes out with version 2 of this program.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disney has some problems
After installing this software, an error occured. After about 2 hours of searching Disney's website for some answers, the best they could come up with was "return it for a refund". Apparently, this software doesn't work with certain sound cards and video cards. The website of course couldn't tell you which ones. What major disappointment. My children were so excited to make Mickey and I had to explain to them that there was no way to make it work. Thanks for nothing Disney. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute Junk!
If you are a computer expert, enjoy constant crashes and unavailable servers and your child has patience beyond belief then this is the product for you. This product does not work! We spent a week trying to log on to the server which was down, then when we finally got on and registered the games and activites (which are no very good at all) take about 10 minutes to come up before you can play them. If you are hoping that you will be able to let your child play independently with this product, you better think again. You will be the one trying to navigate the instructions and reading the rules. Your child will be able to click every once in a while when you tell them to click on a certain item, but that is about it. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart Choice
So glad to see you finally added this product. I have been hooked on the Kidsedge website for a year now. It is the best all around educational "magazine" I have found. I get great ideas for my third graders -- the ones who need motivation and the GATE kids. We used it today during science and ended up at a virtual museum tour on bugs. I couldn't get the kids to stop for lunch! The articles are interesting, and I am always downloading them for the teacher's room. My husband teaches computers in high school and liked the recent article on cheating in America. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Young children use problem-solving skills in fun format
Putt-Putt is invited to participate in a race. He needs to collect four pieces of equipment to be in the race. By keeping his eyes open, earning some extra money, and helping others in cartown, he is able to gather those materials. My 3.5 yr-old son loves this game. The first few times he played the game, my husband and I played it with him, helping him think through some of the challenges and encouraging him to notice details that could help him towards his goals (e.g., collecting pop bottles to recycle towards money for his racing tires). This was especially important since Max can't read yet, so he wouldn't notice clues such as the "free" sign on the batteries in the toy store, or the "help wanted" sign at the grocery. After three or four games played with us, he was able to start playing the game independently. The challenges vary a little from game to game. Sometimes he earns a helmet by helping a cat out of a tree, other times by hammering nails. There is usually an animal to go research in the library (we help with the reading). The game can be saved, which is great because when Max plays by himself he meanders a bit more through cartown and it helps to break the game up over two or three evenings. Putt-putt models polite language and a positive demeanor. There are no bad guys.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent software for kids ready for more advanced games
If your child has played Reader Rabbit and JumpStart and is ready to move on to more advanced gameplay, Humongous Entertainment's Putt-Putt series (and Freddi Fish and Pajama Sam, as well) are an excellent choice. These titles take the cognitive tasks up a notch as children must accumulate specific items, navigate a number of locations, and use their problem-solving skills to help their friends and achieve larger goals. Along the way, kind and gentle Putt-Putt and his dog Pep will meet a number of nice characters, visit a variety of interesting locations and play games as they complete the larger tasks. In Putt-Putt Enters the Race, the overarching goal is to collect the items needed so Putt-Putt can run in the big race, but along the way he will recycle bottles to collect money to buy his tires, visit the library to find out about an animal that needs help, etc. Specifics change if you start a new game, and as other reviewers have stated, you may want to play with your child a few times before they'll be able to enjoy it on their own, so each game is good for hours of fun.

This is a fine game in a great series. We have 5 Putt-Putt titles and enjoy them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even fun for a toddler
My son is only 29 months and too young to really understand the game, but he still loves it. There's enough stuff to just click on and look at. He loves driving around, picking up milk-shakes and soda bottles. He loves the library with the book of rare animals and loves putting different numbers on the flag.

We figure he'll just have fun now and in a year or two, he'll actually play the game.

I will say when he was busy doing something else, we kind of snuck in and removed a few obstacles for him. Okay, I'll be honest. We didn't actually do it for him. My husband and I can't keep our hands off the game. And then my mother came over and she couldn't stop playing either.+

So, I'll say it's a great game whether you're almost 2 1/2 or 55-years-old.

2-0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like it...
This game is horrible. It rarely works, the scences stop, it locks up, the charecters go all weird - plus you certainly cannont make anything close to a sensible movie with this. You can't make the settings move, do cloeups, make charecters talk, or add any drama or action to your film. You can't make the charecters move in any way other than walking. If you want to make a reasonably good filmmaker that has no problems and you can make a anywhere near realistic film, this is NOT the game your looking for.

2-0 out of 5 stars Soggy Stories Hit The Stands---Story Maker Barbie
I thought this game was ok. Just crossed my boarder line between bad and a little good. This game allows you to do all of the stories you want to create, but usuing barbie's themes, characters and props and... settings. Her features are quite complicated. I would give this game a 2 because some parts were really hard to under stand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining, but also very basic.
I liked the idea of this game, I mean, it is really, really fun, but you dont have very many characters, backgrounds, and objects to choose from, so you end up making the same thing over and over again. And plus, sometimes the game freezes or screws up and you lose your whole story. I always have a hard time editing because it always freezes up. So, I give it 3-4 stars. Fun, but too basic.

2-0 out of 5 stars barbie story maker
i chose 2 stars because it will not tell me any where how to edit and then i can not make the movie i am very mad

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool....................
I liked the game when my parents got it for me, but it's not the BEST game in the entire world......It's fun, but sometimes it dosen't work very well.....I recommend it though, because it IS fun, but sometimes you can get very frustrated because you can't get something to work!!! So that's why I give it 3 stars. Fun, but FRUSTRATING SOMETIMES!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of learning fun
My son started playing this game when he turned three. He loved it then, and still loves playing it at age four. I should say, however, that I believe the optimum age for this game to be between 2-4 years. Handily, there are different level settings, so children who are more advanced or less advanced in activities can still enjoy the fun. For example, my son does well in mathematics and reading, so the library and the play store are high level activities. On the other hand, hearing sounds and repeating them (the triangle goes 'ting', so you must then hit the triangle) is harder for him, so we use the easiest setting for the music store.

He has spent up to two hours playing in just the present store, picking out presents for friends within the money limit allowed. He loves choosing the wrapping paper and matching bows, as well.

As the game features many different activities (reading, mathematics, sound repetition, vocabulary, shape-sorting), it is a win for parents interested in educating their children in a fun way. I'm planning on purchasing it for my nephew, as well, and if I had more relatives with children, they'd be getting it for Christmas, too.

The main down side would be Joe, as compared to the beloved Steve, but he plays a very minor role, and is only seen when the child is switching between activity centers (library, grocery store, music store, bakery, present store). The other would be the lack of actual reading in the library. As my son can read, it would be more fun on the highest level if he could sort the books according to title, instead of just with the beginning letter. However, he still has a lot of fun with it, and the mathematics in the present store are great.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pass, unless you really love shelves.
This Blue's Clues game looks like it was rushed through development. With the show's old host Steve gone, they now have to quickly replace Blue's old computer games so that the new host, Joe, is in them. Most of the simplistic activities have a recurring theme: taking and putting things off and on shelves. Here's a list of what to expect:

Activity 1: Go to the bakery and pick items off shelves.

Activity 2: Go to the library and put books where they're supposed to go, by matching the book with the letter on the shelf.

Activity 3: Go to the Toy Store and help customers buy presents by picking from a shelf full of items.

Activity 4: Go to the grocery store, and help Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper select groceries by taking food items off of ... you guessed it, shelves.

The only activity that is different, is a mediocre music activity, where you match what Purple Kangaroo does. Eh.

Sounds pretty exciting, doesn't it! Well, not really. The only reason this game will sell like crazy is because it has Blue in it. If it wasn't for that, no one would pay attention to it. The activities are simplistic and rapidly become boring due to the recurring and unimaginitive "shelf" theme. Worse, the program doesn't really explain anything to your child. It just jumps right in and says "Match the letter on the book, to the letter on the shelf." Your child may likely ask, "What's a letter?"

The show is good, but this game isn't. Pass, unless you really love shelves.

1-0 out of 5 stars LALALALALALALALA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
La la land is a place I have been to many times in my life time. They have ponys you can sit on. And they dance! And sing! And poop! Which bring flying monkeys that only eat cheese! And gwakamoli rains from the heavens. And you can grow a beard that climbs all the way around the earth and chokes zombies to death!!!(...) And sticky mummies walk around in circles until they burn holes in the floor!!! I JUST LOVE THIS BLUES CLUES GAME!!! IT'S THE BEST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED!!!!!!!!!!!! THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END!

3-0 out of 5 stars It was ok
I played with my almost four year old nephew with this and I found it very hard for him to follow. First of all, was he supposed to know when to click? I could hardly tell when the arrows were slighted changed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
We've had this disc since my son was 3. Other reviewers have expressed the thought that the game is more suitable for toddlers. I don't entirely agree, particularly given that there are three distinct levels for each task.

The Grocery Store - level 1 directs children to put specific items in the basket. Higher levels direct children to items based on their relative position (e.g. the item below, or to the right of, bananas).

The Music Store - I admit that I find this one tiresome. The player repeats a pattern of beats on a variety of instruments. Each level increases the number of beats and instruments used.

The Bakery - Children choose items that are specific shapes. Level 1 uses only the most common shapes. Level 2 introduces lesser known shapes, like the crescent. Level 3 has the child look for objects that combine shapes - the task may be to find an item containing 1 circle, 1 triangle and 2 rectangles, which the child will find arranged as a cookie shaped like a little girl.

The Present Store - Here the child is asked to find one item that cost a specific number of "blue dollars". The number of dollars is displayed on the gift table and each item's price is displayed beneath it. The child places the item on the table and then counts out the appropriate number of dollars. In the higher levels, the child is given an amount, but they must find a combination of 2 or more objects that equal that total (probably the most complex activity in the game).

The Library - ok, I can't defend this one. It is ridiculously easy on any level.
