5-0 out of 5 stars Crayola--Make A Masterpiece
This was a gift for a special little girl, age: 6yrs. old. I don't know who enjoyed it more, myself or the child! It is a fabulous program that allows your creative side to just go nuts!

5-0 out of 5 stars Make a Masterpiece-a great paint\create software for kids
The Make a Masterpiece is great...both my kids (ages 4 and 7) love the variety of tools, colors, wallpapers, sounds, and effects. They especially love to "blow up" their creations in a variety of ways when they are done. This is the best paint-brush type software we have used. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Happy with Deluxe Edition's Editor so I bought this
It seems to me that this program is a lot better than the one that comes bundled with the Sims Deluxe Edition, I could not for the life of me get the bundled software to make a decent looking sim. Since I am a big fan of using Maxis supported software, I find this to be a bummer... Maybe they ought to bundle this instead... After all, I am still waiting for Sims Complete which would sell for like $$$ and be all expansion packs in one box!

3-0 out of 5 stars Quite good but some problems
I wish I could give this 3 1/2 stars but I'll settle for 3. It is huge fun at first to see yourself in The Sims. I have had no trouble importing the created Sims into the expansion packs, at least up to Hot Date anyway. The problems are that there really isn't enough data points when defining the Sims head so the end up with almost block like heads. Another thing is the heads are about 3 times the size they should be so you end up with something looking a little like you but with a huge squared off head:) I wish they'd had enabled more points to define the shape of the head and had more bodies to choose from. All in all fun for awhile but could of been a lot better.

1-0 out of 5 stars What kind of face do you want to make? This is my face :(
This was the worst peice of software I think I have ever bought! It is completely outdated, your sims end up looking like mushed up people. It is aweful. To make matters worse, when you transfer the heads (because you can only make heads--not outfits for them to wear) they mess up your game. Also, your sim will always have to have short hair, as long hair sticks straight out! Think long and hard about buying this software for you or as a gift! It is a waste of money!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good face Creations
An easy to use software program allows you to create Sims with your own face or faces of other people you know.
All you need is a picture of your face ( or someone else's face picture) to star as a Sim person in the Sim World.
A fun software package made us laugh .
This software is used primarily by my 10 year old son... easy to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Look at Me - I'M A SIM!! :)
After having little sucess creating Sims with faces that were actually lifelike with online downloads, I was excited to find software that would let me put 'real' people into my Sims game.

About three minutes after popping the CD into my computer, Face Factory was installed and ready to go. Always one to do things the hard way, I bypassed the (conveniently located on the disc) instructions and jumped right in. The main screen shows the inside of a fully-stocked laboratory with bleeps and blips everywhere - including one flashing button showing non-intruction-reading users where to go first.

A step-by-step on-screen tutorial guides users through creating that perfect face, showing you everything from how to crop and position the image to lining up eyes and ears. Although this program works best if you have two images of your subject (one front view and one side view), it still creates remarkably nice heads with just a front-facing photo. (Note: I thought at first that getting a perfect image was going to be a huge pain - not so. I took two pictures of my husband at night with bad lighting and it still turned out great. Don't sweat it.)

After only about fifteen minutes of playing with it my first time through (and a one-click button to import new faces into the game), my husband and I were both rendered Sims, and pretty darn good looking ones at that. Okay, female hair is a little tricky to work with - but they were undeniably us, and it was a blast watching us mingle with other Sim families. I can only imagine the chaos that will ensue when I import a few celebrities! :) The game includes a large variation of bodies to mix with the head you've created (male, female, boy and girl, so you can put ANYONE into the game) - but I found that after starting the game, you could put your new head on any body already installed as well. TONS of possibilities - although my husband was less than amused by his new Robin Hood attire.

The ONLY downside to this software that I've found is that, if you don't have easy access to a digital camera, then you're gonna have to wait around to get your pictures back. I'm not a big fan of waiting for anything, so I dug my camera out as soon as the software arrived and had Instant SIM!

All in all, this a great, easy to use Sims add-on - a great sight more effective than Maxis downloads I've wrestled with. Highly recommended to any fellow SIMs addict!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This game is simply sad!!
This game sucks I'll tell you why!!!

1)There is only a few amount of lines to choose from so after awhile it gets really hard to make a story line. I thought you can make up your own lines!!

2)There isen't enough charactors in it,They only have about 5 charactors for every show.

3)The graphics suck really bad. Some of them don't look good in 3d.

The positive things about this game(^_^)

1)Thier is pretty good backrounds on this game and good props to use.

2)The most important charactors are in it.

3)You can put your own voice on it which I haven't tried.

After about a week it's not fun anymore!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars For 3DMM Fans...
This game is far from 3DMM. Many of the features available allowed in 3DMM in here are not. Just a cheap wannabe is all this is.

5-0 out of 5 stars creative minds
This software is awsome. It really lets you actually create your own cartoon. Bad at drawing, but have great cartoon ideas. No problem with this software. Everything's alredy drawn. All you have to do is make a script and something funny, and sit make and enjoy your own Nickoledeon comic! I recomend this to any mom's or dad's trying to find gifts for their children. And I recomned that all kids buy this. If you parents are still unsure, think of all the creative growth it gives us kids. Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally
This is apparently the long awaited (well, for me, anyhow) follow up to 1996's "Nickelodeon 3D Movie Maker", wich allowed you to make 3D movies with characters from "The Ren and Stimpy Show", "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters", and "Rocko's Modern Life". Hopefully this will live up to the original. Also, I suggest you get both (if you can find the original) is you want a little bit of nastalgia [...]. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Unless a hardcore fan, buy something else
When I first bought Cartoon Studio I expected a feast of Simpsons delights that I would never tire of. For the first few days, I was right. But those few days were spent learning how to use the program. Now I am completely bored. The character movements are limited, and some don't fit any of their phrases- eg. Grampa Simpson has a lot of phrases but his only movement is to be asleep and snoring in a rocking chair! The characters' mouths don't move AT ALL so you can't make it look like they're saying anything. And the five-minute limit to your cartoons is also restrictive. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS YOU ARE A HARDCORE SIMPSONS FAN!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love The Simpsons? Love This Game!
If your looking for hours of Entertainment and Enjoyment, you've come to the right game! The Simpsons Cartoon Studio Game is ABSOLUTLY AWSOME....If you are a fan of the simpsons. I am 13 years old writing this review....and I will tell you if your kids like the simpsons, get them this game. I got this game 2 days ago and allready am a pro at it. You can do everything from Add Props,Add Almost all the characters from the show and make your very own unique simpsons episodes...and watch them...When you're done and proud of your work...Send it to a friend...Even if they dont have the game! From the Moment you start this game you will love it. You can make simple 10 second cartoons to 10 minute long ones! If you are a parent of a kid around any age, get this game...they will absolutly love it! Its Fun and Exciting...And when the kids arent home...you can use it and get loads of laughter! DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF NOT BUYING THIS AWSOME COMPUTER GAME!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as fun as it looks
I bought this game and thought that it would be simple but it is not. It didn't work very well on my computer and my PC is only a year old. It would have been fun if I could have saved my cartoons because it is a very long and sometimes tedious job to make a cartoon. Overall it was worth the $3 I spent on it but it wasn'i quite what I had expected.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cowabunga, dude - you can make your own Simpsons cartoons
One of the joys of being a packrat is discovering really cool stuff you forgot you ever owned. The Simpsons Cartoon Studio joins my list of rediscovered gems. I fired this thing up in my XP PC (it's also compatible with Macs) and soon found myself spending more time than I had planned just having fun. It is true, my friends - while you probably won't transform yourself into Matt Groening, you can indeed make your own Simpsons cartoons. It's not inherently easy to do, but with time, practice, and some imagination, you can amuse your friends and indulge the little child in you that always wanted to grow up and be a cartoonist.

This software gives you more options than you might expect, especially given the fact it was released way back in 1996. First, you can choose from a total of 35 backdrops, including many beloved Springfield locations, as the setting for your little cartoon adventure. Fill the space with your choice of a huge number of items - furniture, signs, electronic gadgets, three-eyed fish, etc. Once the scene is set, bring on the actors - luckily, you won't have to deal with threatened actors' strikes in order to bring your Simpsons creations life. Almost all of your favorites are here: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Mr. Burns (Excellent!), Smithers, Krusty, Milhouse, Barney, Moe, Nelson, Flanders, Ralph, the aliens, etc. Each of them comes equipped with a number of different actions and sound clips. Naturally, the Simpsons family members offer you the most options, but you can easily add such elements as Homer running and falling down, Lisa getting down with her bad self on the saxophone, Bart skateboarding by, Maggie plopping down on the ground, Nelson pointing and laughing, Barney burping - it goes on and on. Then there are a number of choices for background music, after which you can add opening and closing credits, screen dissolves, special effects (lots of good stuff here), and basically engage in unrestrained cartoon mayhem.

Ah, but things aren't quite that simple, and here is where a lot of home cartoonists meet with frustration. It can be a challenge to make things happen the way you want them to, and the interface is a little clumsy at first. After a reasonable amount of time, however, everything starts to click; you learn how to make the cartoon last as long as you want, how to make that darn piece of furniture stay in the scene from start to finish, where and how to introduce new characters midway through the cartoon, how and when to insert the appropriate voices for your characters' actions, and everything else you need to know to let that little Groening demon inside you out to play. It looks hard at first, but it really isn't. I'm not sure how easily younger children can adapt to the interface, but older children and all those of us committed to remaining young at heart can have a lot of fun with this software. So can your friends, to whom you can send your little masterpieces - whether or not they have this software themselves.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not very..
Not very good or fun, this game.I got it along with Virtual Springfield,a package deal.V.S. is Ok but this a bit lame. The idea is to make your own Simpson cartoons, but you cannot even put 2 characters in one scene. It was a [chincy]game and it shows. It may still be worth a look at though. ... Amazon.com Review

The six activities in Arthur's Thinking Games encourage critical thinking and logic, and we had our problem-solving skills further tested by an inadvertent bonus activity: troubleshooting an audio problem that had characters dropping the ends of their sentences. Fortunately, this problem only occurred with one of the computers we tested on. The program's help function suggested making an adjustment to a default setting. We did that, yet the usually consistent Arthur characters still coyly refused to complete their sentences on a Pentium III system with an up-to-date sound card and more than the required 8 MB of RAM and 20 MB of hard disk space.

When we explored this CD-ROM on an older system that for some inexplicable reason gave us good audio, we found an affable little program. In one activity, kids use a catapult to launch water balloons at a castle in order to drench a dragon. As the dragon moves around, kids adjust the catapult's distance and angle of attack to hit their target and put out his fire. Another task involves helping a mummy work his way through a maze-like pyramid. In another deductive game, Arthur's dog Pal gets lost in what looks like the Roman Coliseum, and players can decipher Pal's whereabouts by clicking on windows and listening to hints. A musical jungle allows kids to compose then play short tunes with the help of some musically gifted animals. A game that's structured like a quiz show gives kids an opportunity to listen to clues and pick the correct answer from three choices. Finally, Arthur leads kids to a stage activity where they can use stamps and paints to customize a backdrop, then program Arthur to do a series of dance moves up in the footlights. Each of these activities, with the exception of the Dance Theater, can be adjusted to five different levels.

There are no strokes of genius in Arthur's Thinking Games, nor is anything particularly awful. We do think that the box is claiming a bit much by saying kids learn "history" and "geography" with this program. Apart from the game settings (a pyramid, a coliseum, a castle), we didn't find a scrap of history or geography unless those elements were lost in some of that missing audio. 1-0 out of 5 stars Not for MacOS
We just purchased this and recived a version that is NOT compatible with the MacOS. Perhaps there are newer versions that work with the Mac, but be aware that some of the used ones may NOT be Mac compatible.

2-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Disappointing from an Arthur Fan
Like other reviewers, I find this game to have very little educational content..or content period. My sons (2 and 3) tire quickly of its few games, and really just enjoy the regurgitating sound the garbage can makes in the painting section.

Save your money for better quality games.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun. My three year old likes it!
Two things are wrong with this CD which is why I gave it four stars instead of five.

1- There are only five activities on this CD. This is a problem when many of the other CD's you can buy have many more activities. I was a little bit dissapointed by this aspect.
2- The games a little too arcady for my taste. However having said that- I'm not the one playing it and my three year old son enjoys this CD.

I think that this would be too easy for a child that was five or six. I think this is really directed towards three to five year olds. For my three year old the games develop skills like problem solving, understanding directions and more. I was amazed at how quickly he caught on to the game of hot and cold to find something in one of the games on this CD. Now we play it around the house.

This is a fun CD that does develop thinking skills in younger kids. Be warned though that although the games can be leveled to higher and higher levels, there are only five games. That gets kind of old after a while, even if the level gets harder.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Daughter loves this Game!
My Daughter is 4 and she loves this game! While there are only 5 different activities (the reason for only 4 stars), each does have 5 different levels of difficulty, unlike Reader Rabbit, which only has 3. As an Added bonus this box included another CD, Arther's Reading Race. These CDs combined are comparable to Clifford Reading and Clifford Thinking Games. (Sold seperately and thus twice the price.)

Another bonus is that this CD will run on a windows NT platform (normally used for business purposes) While some games will also run on this platform, most don't list the NT platform as being compatable. It was wonderful to have peace of mind when purchasing this game, I KNEW this game would run rather than having to guess that it might. I'm really impressed with the value this game provided.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Little Thin on Content
Normally, the Arthur series of educational CDs for children are enjoyable, educational and engaging. It was for this reason that I purchased this CD for my 6 year old child. However, when we recived it, the "Thinking Games" turns out to have only 5 or 6 activities, and no automatic leveling (where the CD challenges the child when the child correctly completes an activity. Further, the games that are used seem more like arcade activities, with very little actual "thinking" necessary on the part of the child. While my child enjoys it, I would much rather have them playing with Arthur's First or Second Grade CDs which are challenging, interesting and multifacited. As both the "grade" CDs and the "Thinking Games" CDs are the same price, go for the grade ones -- you will get a lot more for your money! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars unstable software
I actually have the "red" version of this software (which Amazon does not sell) but assume the basic platform is the same. The software crashed my daughter's machine repeatedly; I had to load it on my own computer for her to finish her project. Even then, it crashed my machine as well, several times, before I finally cut-and-pasted her work into PowerPoint to get it printed. I'm uninstalling both copies - she had some fun with it, but it's not worth the aggravation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, some flaws in program.
Pokemon Project Studio Blue Version is definitely a good program to use for making a Pokemon project. When I used the program, it was very good, but had one or two flaws. If you install both versions, you can use all of the Pokemon. The only flaw is that when I tried to transfer Pokemon from one version to another, no good. It wouldn't be able to transfer. What that simply means is that you can't use different Pokemon from another version on the other version. That can be a major hassle at times. But otherwise, a very good program to use and the results are excellent. An overall 4 stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good program - no support
Firstly, these programs (Red and Blue)are easy to use, and allow many creative projects as part of the Print Shop family.

However, having bought these last Christmas, I have found that Mattel (owner of The Learning Co.) no longers offers support for these programs.

Additionally, while they advertise that you must get both programs to "get all the pokemon" you can not share the graphics between the programs. This means that you must launch them separately and keep separate projects in order to use all the pokemon -- very unfriendly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful software, great for kids and others too
Very powerful software. Had all the key Pokemon my son wanted. Very easy to manipulate objects, including sizing and rotation. Easy to create from scratch, modify existing templates, or move motifs from templates to blanks. Can create many lovely items w/o Pokemon if you so wish. Easy, easy, easy to use by kids. I had trouble loading it and received excellent tech support from the publisher! A great experience overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool!
Wow! Nintendo has done it again! You can make sooo many things with this program! I own both of them, but this one is my fav. This is definately worth your money, and is the perfect gift for any Pokémon fan! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Some familiar and beloved storybook icons go electronic in Curious George Paint and Print Studio, an interactive sticker album aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 8. This easy-to-use program lets children create pictures featuring the Curious George characters and other graphics, all in the style of the originals, created by Margret and H.A. Rey.

Paint and Print Studio provides users with a number of ready-made backgrounds to decorate, everything from Curious George's home to a circus. Within these environments, users can choose from a wide palette of graphical stamps, placing Curious George and his friends on the page. The user has total control over the scene; with toys, tools, and cartoon-style special effects, children can fill out any possible tableau. And, after illustrating your own Curious George epic on the computer screen, it is also easy to save favorite pictures or to output them on a color printer.

A simple program with one or two relatively sophisticated options, Paint and Print Studio allows users to alter the angle and size of the prepackaged images before inserting them into the scene. If you want a tiny George on a massive pile of blocks (or an enormous George balanced on tiny blocks), you can have it. This little bit of flexibility allows for the creation of some enjoyably surreal images. There are also preset borders and some paint-program basics that permit further tweaking, such as the addition of lines, circles, and other shapes--even chunks of text. The archive of graphic stamps, while not exhaustive, is large and varied. What's more, some of the stamps are animated--when users set him onto a page, Curious George might dance, fall down, or fly a kite. These random animations will delight young players.

Too strictly dedicated to Curious George to be useful as a more general paint program, Paint and Print Studio is nevertheless an excellent introduction to graphics-design software and the creative potential such programs can unlock. --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

Hang out in the mall and get to know the Diva Starz. Alexa, Nikki,Summer, and Tia are all ready to chat and play; each of the Divas wants tobecome your friend--as long as you pay attention and learn what they're reallylike.

Diva Starz has a simple premise: the better you understand your Diva pal,the more fun the two of you can have together. Players can go with a Diva to the Music Spot, where they'll learn to combine instruments with othermusical elements such as melody, beat, and sound effects to create differenttypes of tunes. When you mix one that your Diva friend absolutely loves, sherewards you with tokens you can use in the arcade.

If music isn't your thing, you can pick an outfit that matches your chosen Diva pal's tastes in the Fashion Spot, or whip her up a trendy new hair-do inStyle Spot. The key to each challenge is using the selected Diva's personalityto guide the choices you make; not all of the girls like dance music, longdresses, or having their hair pinned up. Fortunately, players can ask themquestions by using a miniature chat interface; the Diva's responses to variousquestions yield clues to help with the music mixer, fashion decisions, andhairstyle choices.

And though the game places an unfortunate emphasis on girls' appearance anddress, the chat sessions give the Divas a chance to reveal other, moresubstantial facts about their lives. Asked about career goals, Tia responds thatshe wants to be an Internet entrepreneur. The Divas also tell players, in briefbut positive terms, about their mothers' jobs.

After earning a handful of tokens, it's off to the arcade, where players can trythe games that await. With a range of activities intended to serve a variety ofages, Diva Starz's difficulty level is all over the map. Some of thechallenges are fairly tough; in contrast, the arcade games are extremelysimple--one of them is a version of tic-tac-toe.

Diva Starz has a pleasingly circular format. Winning the arcade gamesearns players even more information about the Divas, as well as more options forclothing, hairstyles, and music mixes. By making wise choices, you'll find outstill more about your Diva friends. The distinct personalities of the fourcharacters are emphasized, encouraging girls to consider the idea that differentpeople have vastly different personalities. In Diva Starz, they alsolearn that listening and understanding these personalities can be enormouslyrewarding. (Ages 6 and up) --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Diva Starz Allikki
I made a Diva Star named Alikki on this game! She has purple eyes and blond hair. That's why I named her Allikki. She has Alexa's hair and Nikki's eyes. I made her from Nikki at the hair game. You can also go to a place where they just talk, a clothes place, a music place, and the arcade. You can play with Alexa, Nikki, Summer, and Tia, but not Miranda. You get money for the arcade after you give the Divas clothes, hair, and music they like. You can play three arcade games with it, then you'll get money to buy them new clothes, hairdoes, and music. But after a while when you get a bunch of money, you can buy everything and there's nothing else to buy. When you put the special red $50 clothes that make the mirrors light up on the Divas, they tell you secrets!

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok
This game is not all that fun. I got this a few weeks ago. It was fun the first few days I played with it, but it gets boring really easily. In the game, you can pick a Diva to go off and play games with. The Diva will tell you about themselves, then you can interact with the Diva in a series of activities; make your Diva a cool tune, style your Diva's hair, or mix and match fashions. The Diva's are different though; Alexa will love it if you give her plaited hair, but give Nikki plaits and she will NOT like you! Every time you complete an activity, you earn some tokens. You can take the tokens to the arcade and play some games. Completing the games will you more hairstyle and clothes options, and a secret fact about the Diva. And that's it. You're finished. If you like, you can do it all again with a differen't Diva, but the clothes and things are very similar, and once you've got all the secrets and things, it's boring. Someone under 6 might enjoy it, but also may find the games fiddly unless she has help.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok...its fun for a while
This game is fun to mess with their hair and stuff... but after u get all the prizes and new stuff..it isnt fun any more

3-0 out of 5 stars OK
This item is ok, and can use some work. Once you get all of the gifts for your Diva Starz, you can't get anything else, and it's not all that fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really cool game!
My mom bough this game for my ... sister for Christmas. I loved it to even though i am .... I love the music. It is so awesome! The hair and clothes are so neat. I would recommend this game to anyone between the ages of 4-15! ... Read more

Aimed at preschoolers and kindergartners, Blue's Art Time Activities is one of the best creativity programs we've seen. Incredibly easy to navigate and perfect for independent exploration, this CD-ROM is appropriate for kids of all skill levels, whether they're computernovices or young graphic artists. By helping Blue and friends participate in TheReally Big Art Show (sponsored by Blue's school), players learn basic artfundamentals such as color mixing, design, and layout. Along the way kids meetup with a cast of colorful characters including Chalk Girl and Marky Marker,Color Drops, Blue's new friend Periwinkle, and Al Luminum, the Mayor of RecycleTown--and, of course, Steve and Blue.

Chalk Girl lives in a geometrically challenged Chalk World, where children canmanipulate shapes with rotation tools, click and drag them to complete murals, and store their creations in an art portfolio. Chalk creations magicallytransform into lively animations as kids complete their unique artwork. Oncetheir masterpieces are created, players can tell the world about The Really BigArt Show by creating a stylish invitation at the craft table. Here kids helpMarky Marker decorate an invitation using virtual paint, glitter, gems, andfeathers while adding borders and learning layout and composition. A handyeraser and a variety of brushes and stickers heighten the fun and the creativeoptions.

Playing the multilevel playground color game is an excellent way for children tolearn about primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Here they'll mix and matchcolors along a hopscotch path, while taking turns seeing who makes it to thefinish line first. Wonderfully animated Color Drops teach kids how to makecolors such as purple, orange, green, and brown, and they can earn up to 10ribbons for their efforts. Recycle Town is yet another creative place toexplore. Children check out blueprints and follow instructions like youngarchitects. After reading the blueprints, kids go on a scavenger hunt andcollect the necessary items to construct a cool diorama. Using glue and scissorshas never been this neat and easy!

This program also introduces Blue's brand-new friend, Periwinkle the cat. Kids can help her illustrate a variety of tiny storybooks in one of the CD-ROM's best activities: players use crayons and stamps to fill in the pages ofeach book, then save their work and print it for away-from-the-computer fun. Finally, it's time to get the show on the road. Once kids complete all theactivities, Steve asks them to choose one of their favorite projects for TheReally Big Art Show; they can also select one of the ribbons to place on theirprized artwork. Two paws up for this blue-ribbon software program. (Ages 3 to 6)--Tina Velgos ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Can you say "FRUSTRATING"???
Just took this one out of the box and even with a college education I can't figure out how to make it work!!! My 4 year old little boy clicks around aimlessly trying to make something work, to no avail! Unless I'm totally missing something, there are no real instructions as to what to do to get things going, there's only a big to-do about the art show and portfolio.

4-0 out of 5 stars Blue's Art Time Activities
I brought this product for my son who is 2 years 11 months. The format of the program is similar to the TV show with Steve talking/singing and providing instructions. The software is well put together and graphically appealing, but most the activities are a bit too complicated for my son. Having said that, he loves the chalk girl and will happily spend an hour on that section alone. This game has really helped him in his use and coordination of the mouse. Also, the che game involves rotating shapes to fit a template, it is fascinating to watch as your child discovers how to do this.

In summary, I would say that this is a good game, but 3 is probably too young for most of it

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game
My two year old son loves this game and it is very interactive!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the thing for Blue-obssessed kids!
My daughters, ages 16 months and four years, LOVE Blue's Clues. The 4 year old went nuts when I loaded up this program. She and my eight-year-old sister (who, by the by, insists that she's "too old" for Blue's Clues) quite grudgingly took turns with it (and I mean QUITE grudgingly), and ended up playing for hours. I could barely pry them away from it, even for lunch. It was all I could do to keep them from eating at the computer.

In the program, your kids travel around the art center with Blue, as she helps her friends get ready for the Really Big Art Show. Each friend does something different (there's Chalk Girl, Marky Marker[augh!:)] at the paint table, Al Luminum making projects out of recycled materials, etc.) and each one needs help finishing their projects. After they're done, your kids can use the same materials to do projects of their own. Then it's outside to play a color mixing game on the playground, that starts with mixing primary colors to make secondary colors and progressing to mixing a primary and a secondary to make a tertiary (they even use the proper words, no talking down) to gather ribbons for judging the art show. Once everything on the portfolio checklist, faithfully toted by Blue, is done, it's time for the Art Show, and the kids get to be proud of a job well done.

I picked this particular software because my eldest daughter loves art, and I knew this would give her an excellent educational head start. If you have preschoolers and haven't tried Blue's Clues, what are you waiting for? It's the best kind of educational software, that gets them talking and pointing and participating, and-best of all-learning. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you've ever worried about walking into your room and finding a younger sibling nose-deep in your journal--or worse, if this has actually happened!--then Girls Only Secret Diary is the program for you. This electronic diary comes with a keen understanding of a girl's need for privacy when recording her thoughts and experiences. Not only is the diary password-protected, but users can also scramble text so that it can't be read or decoded onscreen. Additionally, users with a color printer can send their friends messages that can only be read with a special decoder. In this sense, Secret Diary is vastly superior to an old-fashioned diary, with its easily picked brass lock.

Secret Diary comes with other useful features, such as an appointment calendar and address book. It allows users to make personalized stationery for sending letters to friends or family members. Diary pages can be likewise decorated with various borders, and a host of small, decorative graphics is available for further personalization. These function like stickers--you pull them off a strip to the left of the paper and stick them anywhere you like. The graphic options make for a pleasing emphasis on creating a diary that is visually appealing as well as a repository for written thoughts.

On the down side, Girls Only Secret Diary ignores one fundamental aspect of the diary writer's experience--the joy of reading old entries, years later, and rediscovering past trials and successes. Diary text is not easily exported or backed up to another format (such as a text file). The diary's contents are thus vulnerable to a catastrophic hard-drive crash, a virus, or even the replacement of an old computer--situations where diary data could be irretrievable. A user's best option for hanging on to their writings, then, is to print out every single page.

However, the sheer enjoyment of creating attractive and colorful diary pages may make this drawback worth enduring--if you can just find a place to hide those pages once they're printed! --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Secret Diary
Password protected, Address book, Secret Message writer and Decoder, Stationary, AND Diary all in one program. What more could you want? Well...maybe some copy and paste or easy backup.

I used this diary wonderfully for two years--two years!--when I realized I couldn't copy and paste into Word, or somehow retrieve it. In five to ten years, that program won't be working and those TWO YEARS of my life...fully documented (10 a month at least) will be gone. I now have to print out every one of those pages...what a waste of paper! It's a wonderful wonderful program. But if you actually want to READ your diary 10 years from now...just look elsewhere. It's not worth it...

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This product is the best software for girls. This organizes telephones, adresses events. The best thing about this is that it saves your diary enteries with a password and in a secert code. So even if someone does know the password they cant read it. The down part about this prouduct is that if the software gets deleted all your files are erased because it doesn;t save your files on your computer wich is why I took away a star and wich is why they ask u to print all your files just in case. ... With Kid Pix Deluxe Third Edition, your child can use his or hermouse, voice, and wildest imagination to create masterpieces on the computer. They'll go beyond mere virtual painting to smear, gloop, and smudge colors on acanvas that can be smooth, rough, or lizard-skinned. They'll use animated clipart, find psychedelic backgrounds, and even add music or sound effects to theircreations. Then you'll send your kid to bed and start playingwith Kid Pix yourself. It's that good.

The program can feel a bit incomprehensible at first. After a quickinstallation, users encounter a screen with the usual icons--paintbrush, paintcan, pencil. But there's also a cake mixer, a stick of dynamite, and a bald guy.All of this oddness is explained in the user's guide, but it's better to justjump into the right-brain spirit of this program and start clicking. Explorationreveals that the bald guy erases, while providing a running commentary, themixer mixes colors, and the dynamite ignites, splutters, and then blows up thewhole picture. Every tool here clanks, splooshes, orkerplunks, which makes Kid Pix Deluxe as close to tactile as acomputer-painting program is ever going to get.

On the practical side, there are templates for maps, charts, and reports thatcould be useful for school projects. Kids can also import their own photographsinto the program, and tweak them as they see fit. Finished works of art can beput in a "slideshow," where auteurs can mess around with dissolves, fades, andmore sound effects to complete their creations.

One of the program's most unique features allows users to "paint" with theirvoices. Clicking and dragging while whispering and hollering into amicrophone (not included) adds an interesting "performance art" element to the onscreensquigglings. Just be careful. We woke up our kids when we decided to see whatour shouts looked like. (Ages 4 and older) --Anne Erickson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My son couldn't stop talking about this!
My 6-yr-old son mentioned Kid Pix every day for about a week after using it at school. I had seen this software many times but just thought it was another one of those coloring book kind of things that just about every kid web site has - for free. So I broke down and bought it. Now I can't wait for my son to go to bed at night so I can "play" with this software. It's wonderful! It has elements of Powerpoint (slideshows - even the frame timing and sounds), Photoshop (filters like blur, noixe, pixelate, render, adjustments like brightness, contrast and even color filters!), word processors (adding text in installed fonts, sizing), vector programs (like Illustrator that allow you to place a vector image (clipart) and resize), and even hundreds of music selections/genres, clipart, scenery, artwork, textures, patterns, maps, and it will even read the text he types in. I obviously highly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Family Fun
I just bought Kid Pix Deluxe 3rd Edition. I bought it for my 3 year old son and he loves it. It is simple enough for him to use. We have only had it for 2 days now and he already knows how to change the brushes, colors, etc. This product also keeps his attention. There are amazing sound effects to go with every action. My husband and I have fun with the more advanced features, paper texture, adding sounds and personal pictures, etc. The best part of the product is the e-mail component. It let's you send your creations to friends and family. This product is a great entertainment for the whole family, from the littlest to the oldest. I highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars XP COMPATIBILITY
Not really compatible. Will work with Win Xp cmpatability wizard set to Win 98 and visual themes disabled. BUT, the desktop will not return to original settings upon closing and Kid Pix 3 leaves programs running in the background which must be manually closed through Win Task Manager.
