5-0 out of 5 stars Looney Tunes Photofun
This software is so much fun--my granddaughter and I spend hours making pictures of her with the characters. The software is amazingly as easy to use as many other photo software products I have bought. The music is fun, a flying 2" bug interacts with the person logged in--says the name and gives help when needed. This is such a clever photo software--entertaining and produces great pictures and projects. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Do you feel it's important that your 3-year-old learn the wordbuttocks? Some software designer out there does. Mediocre to miserablebest describes the range of options within this four CD-ROM suite of toddlers'software. Some of the programs have one or two decent elements, but the goodbits are drowned in a sea of puzzling design, technical glitches, and surrealelements that would be hilarious if they weren't being marketed at your child. Here's a breakdown of the madness:

BabyWOW! is the first CD-ROM. This selection mimics DK Learning's style withphotographic images, and a noncluttered format that takes on the basics likecolors, words, shapes, and counting. The problem with BabyWOW! is that on somesystems the program lurks on the lower right side of the screen,half-inaccessible, even with the correct settings. The technical support pagementioned in an installation guide (www.support@babywow.com) didn't exist whenwe searched for it, a BabyWOW Web site offered no hints, and there was notroubleshooting guide on the disc itself. Once we found a system that allowed usto access most of the program's introductory screen, we found a benigneducational program with 10 activities that can take place in eight differentlanguages. BabyWOW! manages counting to 10, and labeling images of cheese, sand, and trains accurately. However, the program fails in the colors department--itwill tell your child with some authority that the brownish color on the screenis in fact red. Parental guidance is suggested.

The second CD-ROM is Buddy Brush and the Painted Playhouse. Buddy is amop-headed, nonspeaking paintbrush that inhabits a clickable playhouse. The bestthing about Buddy Brush is its musicality. The original score is playable on aregular CD player, and the harp flourishes, woodwind trills, and guitar twangswill engage young ears. The worst thing about Buddy Brush is that his playhouseis random yet boring. Exploring the house by using the mouse yields changeablepictures, couches with patterns kids can manipulate, musical instruments, andthe ubiquitous click-and-paint scenes. Buddy Brush's creators probably made thisprogram devoid of spoken or written words to facilitate freeform exploration, but the playhouse contains dead ends and repetition. The escape key was the onlyway out we could find once we tired of painting with our six color choices.

The third selection in this set is the CD-ROM equivalent of Styrofoam shippingpeanuts. This filler is promisingly entitled The Elephant on Aisle Four. Itappears to be a home page for a singer named Lisa Atkinson. Here you and youreager kid will find a printable maze and two printable pictures to color--wow!Plus a few MP3 clips: a poem and two kids' songs that have absolutely nothing todo with elephants. The marketing material that describes this CD-ROM lists songsgalore, but we didn't find them. Instead we found a link to a catalog, and wedidn't want our toddler to go shopping so we moved on.

And we found buttocks. Imagine Pokémon going educational and you've thefourth CD-ROM. Smiletown is from a company called Gakugei in Japan. A handful ofcute critters--including a yellow thing that looks like an earlessPikachu--guide kids through 12 activities with names like ABC Dance, Number Fun, and Lotsof Words. In Body Parts, kids are told that characters are hurt on certainparts, and they must identify and click on said part, after which a healingBand-Aid is applied. Sure enough, someone needs a Band-Aid on the bottom, and abright computer voice intones "buttocks!" when the proper spot is clicked.Smiletown is a surreal little place: the graphic for choosing English as one ofthe four possible languages is a backward American flag. Phrases like "Let's goto the disco!" abound. A cute squirrel fishes a jellyfish from a pond and kidsmust decide if it's a car, a doll, a hamburger, a yo-yo, or a jellyfish.

Toddler Play & Learn is a great way to teach your child where his or herbuttocks are. That's about it. (Ages 2 to 4) --Anne Erickson ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I bought this as the first software for my 2 year old. I can't even figure out how to use it. As the others have said, don't waste your money. There are no instructions with the materials.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I was extremely dissappointed by this software. My 2 year old son loves the computer and he loves to play games, however he just did not "get" these games. The box says it's supposed to be educational, but I just don't see how. I would not recommend this software to anyone with a toddler.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
I thought that this package was basically a waste of money. My son has a minor speech problem, so we were able to use one of the disks for having him practice his speech. Other than that....it stunk.

3-0 out of 5 stars IT ISN'T THAT BAD!
The Bad you've already read in the other reviews. Here are the good points:
1. The musical CD included, "The Elephant in Aisle 4," is fun, enjoyable and addictive. It won't drive you crazy listening to it dozens of times, and is worth the money. It was the first children's CD among many that my 2 year old son started singing along with.
2. If you have two young children close in age, 2 and 4 in my case, you have some cheap options in software (... for 4 CDs). My two year old simply likes to be on the computer and doesn't have to be dazzled. He can manipulate BabyWow by himself.
3. Buddy the Paintbrush to me is hard to manipulate and is like getting stuck in a loopy maze. Having said that, my husband was rather fascinated by how well my 4 year old daughter has learned to mix the colors, and she can manipulate the software.
4. Smiletown is odd and surreal. It is also quite popular with my 4 year old. Regarding "buttocks", I could have done without it, but it's just another anatomical term that you're going to have to explain eventually anyway. Four years is not too tender an age to learn the correct terminology.
BOTTOM LINE: There is better software, but this quartet does deliver a decent bang for the buck.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointingly bad software
Out of the four CD you receive, we are only pleased with the first CD. The others are either hard to figure out what you are supposed to do or it just brings you to other websites. not worth any money to purchase this CD. My daughter loves playing games on the computer and she never wants to play this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars XP Compatibility
I see that several people have had trouble running this with XP, but I had no trouble installing it or using it. My great-niece, who is almost 8 and my great-nephews, soon to be 10, all enjoy using it. As a matter of fact, so do I. It's a lot of fun and encourages their creativity. I don't know why others may have had problems with it, but it works great for us.

1-0 out of 5 stars Windows XP Compatibility -- Not
I purchased this product after checking the Broderbund website to verify compatibility to Windows XP. Broderbund fails to mention the numerous problems you may encounter if you run this on Windows XP; and the trial and error installation method needed to get it to run properly. Broderbund's concept of XP compatibility is not what you will expect. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Great fun for even the very littlest music lover, Sesame Street's Music Maker has eight different fun-filled music-related activities. With Grover, Elmo, Ernie, Cookie Monster, and assorted other helpers along the way, every Muppet enthusiast is sure to have their favorite game to play (Ours was Sing-Along with the Muppets, where players choose the style to sing along with and pick from eight different songs to sing.)

Where else would we have the chance to sing Elmo's Song with the great Elmo himself? For a more physically active activity, there's Studio 543, where small fry can get up and dance with Grover and Elmo. For a guided tour of the world of musical instruments, check out Worldly Instruments, where players can hear what the instrument sounds like, and learn a bit about its history from the helpful Ms. Globe.

As with all Sesame Street software, the graphics are excellent, with bright colors and sharp images, and the sound quality is terrific. The icons are big enough for even the newest mouse user to click on with ease, and with the friendly Muppet hosts, this is a musical party your child will surely want to attend. --Jill Lightner ... 5-0 out of 5 stars my 16 month old sons absolutely favorite christmas gift!
The other reviewers have described the features, so all I can add is that the instrument sounds are studio quality, and your child if he/she is at all into music will ask for more and more of this. My son does not yet know how to use a mouse, so as a parent who sits through these games with him for up to 1/2 hour a day -- I love these muppets and don't tire of their adult appeal. No annoyance factor as compared to jump start baby, & no boredom factor like winnie the pooh and other disney offerings which are thin on activities.
The sesame street web site is also a fun place to play with your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kid loves this -- especially the musical instruments page
My kid likes the musical instruments page, where the talking globe describes the instruments, and the sesame street characters play them. I like the world of sound, but my kid doesn't like it very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding - entertaining, educational, and fun!
I can't say enough about how wonderful this software is. It has all of the quality we've come to expect from Sesame Street products - clear & colorful graphics, great sound, lots of activities, the humor and warmth of the Muppets - and then some. There are 8 different activities, all of which are entertaining and which keep my toddler engrossed (no mean feat, since he has the classic two-year-old's short attention span). My personal favorite is "Ernie's World," a Wayne's World parody in which Ernie shouts out silly words - flounder! coldcuts! underpants! - while one of his buddies tries to sing. My son is partial to the world of instruments segment, where you click on a musical instrument to hear its name & how it sounds and learn fun facts about it. (My two year now can identify such diverse instruments as a violin, a hurdy gurdy and a pan pipe.) I am particularly impressed by how fresh the software seems even after it's been played over and over; something about the way the Muppets interact with each other and the input coming from the child makes it seem as if they are right there with you, not canned or repetitive.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent music activity game for kids AND parents!
WOW! (and I mean that). This game is fantastic! All the Sesame Street humor, with really wonderful music and a lot of different activities. From Ernie's World (ala Wayne's World) where Ernie interjects funny words into songs sung by Cookie, Grover and Elmo to their hilarious disbelief (which had my wife and I on the floor laughing!), to Elmo's Music Machine (an endlessly replayable sampler/mixer of music snippets that let's kids put endless combinations of tunes together (an excellent learning tool! ), to Worldly Instruments where Elmo and Ernie play - in any combination - everything from Sitars and banjos to African drums and Trombones to, of things, a Hurdy Gurdy or a Theramine! As a musician and a parent who hopes to pass on the joy of music to my son and daughter, I could not believe our luck at finding this brilliant and wonderful product! My hat is off to Sesame Street with my endless respect and thanks! GO BUY THIS! WE ALL LOVE IT! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun and flexible
This was a blast for my 6 year-old niece. She was able to start using the basic functions right away, building castles with no help from us. With a tiny bit of help she learned how to move things around and color the castles. It really held her attention and she wanted to play with it again the next day. I like the fact that she can really grow with it, as she learns to use the 3-D aspects and move around the areas and explore the castles and use some of the learning functions. I was impressed with the amount of detail and accuracy in the castle pieces and variety of options involved. The program can be as simple or as complicated as the child wishes. Overall,we were both very pleased with the purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars My kids loved this!
Believe it or not this program had sat in my collection for several months before we installed it! The kids have been fighting over the computer ever since. You can 'virtually' put together castles and you can then walk through both the inside and the outside. You can ALSO print out these castles and make them again out of paper. My children are 7, 8, and 10 and all of them have loved this program. On the computing side of things, the kids can easily wander the program on their own, it is very friendly. The reason for the four stars is that the instructions for the paper-version castles really need adult guidance. BUT, it turned out to be rewarding, quality time. Make the castles, get a green poster board as a piece of land and VOILA! your kids will have an awesome time. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Georgia Mom
This product is so-so. My five year old daughter laughs at Jessie's math maze(even though it does not challenge her). She did learn the basic concept of multiplication by using this program. Overall, she is already bored with it after just a few hours of play.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buzz Lightweight
I'm sorry I bought this program BEFORE reading the other reviews here, because they're generally right on.

"Buzz Lightyear 2nd Grade" is just a superficial money-maker cranked out by people who either don't know or don't care about child education. Most of the "activities" are so brainless and boring that I was secretly ashamed to be encouraging my child to "enjoy" them.

Plus, the installation on my plain Windows 98 PC was a nightmare.I'm a very knowledgeable user but it still took me almost two full evenings. The setup program is at once unforgiving and stupid. My existing version 4.0 Quicktime just HAD to be upgraded to v4.01, for example - and this launched itself (involving a major download) right in the middle of the main program installation. This had predictable results.

Other issues were files installed with the wrong attributes (which later stopped the program), an uninstall file given a wrong extension (which prevented an uninstall), beta test messages popping up, and an almost unsolvable conflict with msvcrt.dll (a common problem). This last would crash the program whenever an activity was exited.

I was ready to give up when I found mention on this site of an available patch.

Running this patch finally got me going, although the speech is often totally garbled, especially in the intro screen.

My advice - save your money.Don't reward efforts like this.We could have had so much, much more from a Disney / Pixar collaboration.

4-0 out of 5 stars learning is fun too !!
While my son enjoys playing "his software", he is particularly interested in the Toy Story themes. With Buzz Lightyear as his favorite, he is naturally drawn into hours of learning fun with this Disney Interactive program.I have been surprised at his knowledge in geography and his reading skills.Jessie's math maze has expediated his math abilities. There are enough game options to keep his interst level up and his computing skills sharp.I also get the benefit of having my son sit on my lap while helping him through the tougher games.Certainly a purchase well worth the price. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars My child was frightened by Sir Sour Note...
My 5-year old was frightened by Sir Sour Note, and to this day (over a year later) she refuses to play this software. Now my four year old won't either because of the first child's fright. It is a shame that Jumpstart couldn't find a way to encourage a child's exploration of the wonders of music without this 'Hollywood' gimic of good and evil. Shouldn't an introduction to music be a joy, not a traumatic experience?

3-0 out of 5 stars Fair
My 5 year old is using this program, but he won't put it in and go on his own. I have to keep after him to do the rhythms, would rather just go on and explore. Doesn't hold his interest at this stage, more like school work. I see a lot of merit in it, however, and am using it as part of his homeschooling curriculum.

5-0 out of 5 stars piano instructor
JumpStart Music is a great program. I am a piano teacher and I use this program as supplementary learning. I have students of all ages and they all really enjoy JumpStart Music. It teaches them to follow rhythmic and melodic patterns at a level they can understand and the animation is great. I recommend this product to all children who have a liking for music.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hurtful not helpful
Between the character Sir Sour Note actually frightening my child and the goat which leads the rhythm section insulting my child's attempts ("That's BAAAAADDDDDD"), I was very disappointed that Jump Start would release such a product. What should have been an enjoyable introduction to music was actually a very negative experience. By the way, the goat also reprimanded my attempts to repeat his rhythms and I've been playing the piano for 30 years! Imagine a 5 year old thinking they can't get it right and giving up. VERY DISAPPOINTING piece of software. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written
This program has lots of potential however it is lacking in several areas. The first is that there are clitches and if an area is clicked on erroneously then the program freezes. I had to shut down the computer each time and reboot. Also the instructions and some of the games are too complicated for my soon to be 5 year old. Others were really fun for her. The most frustrating however is that I never did figure out what I had to do in Belle's Writing Room to complete this section in preparation for the Surprise Ball (and I have a medical degree). If anyone knows please email me so we can at least see the dress we picked out and the music and dance we created.

1-0 out of 5 stars ScamArt 950,000
What a scam! Think you're getting 950,000 images in the box? I did. But think again. You have to suffer through endless downloads to get more than the handful of images they give you in the box. And to top it all off, the membership expires after a year. So you pay good money for expiring vaporware - nothing in the box and no good after a year. I don't think so.... ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Hey howdy hey, all you deputies out there! Now you can have as much fun as Andy does with Buzz and Woody in this activity pack that's chock full of arcade games and printable art. Most of the games have a theme found within the movie; you'll even get to play "dodge the traffic" hidden inside road cones! There's also a hilarious trek through the luggage carousel with Buzz on a hunt to rescue Woody, and it's trickier than you might think.

All the games have adjustable levels of difficulty (so kids can play at more advanced levels, while you putter around as a beginner, 'cause let's face it, they're better at these things than parents are!). One of the elements that kids can print is a fantastic colorable comic book featuring all of Andy's toys. Even those goofy three-eyed aliens put in an appearance! Also ready-to-print are posters, stickers, and greeting cards; a birthday party could easily be decorated with the stuff within Activity Center.

Whether kids see themselves as a space ranger or identify as a cowpoke, there's plenty of fun for a rainy afternoon or two in this game pack. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Won't install under Win XP
The disneyinteractive.com customer support section has an entry for the problem but no solution. Calling their 888 number you learn that you need to send your CD-ROM (with a receipt) in to Disney for a swap. Apparently the problem is so ingrained in the software that it can't be published on the internet as an update. What a drag!

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL of my kids love this game!
I have three kids who LOVE this game. (A 5,7 and 9 year old.) It is fun and entertaining for all of them! My 7 and 9 year old girls especially like the "Comic Book Creator" My 5 year old son likes all the games, especially "Traffic Cones" and "The Toy Shelf" I have caught him laughing and having lots of fun when he plays! Based on my childrens reaction I Highly recommend this one! If you are looking for a fun game and love Toy Story, BUY THIS!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy It!
I'm with the majority on this one. This is a TERRIBLE program, well below the standards you would normally associate with the Disney brand. My 4 year-old, who is well-versed in children's computer software, lost interest almost immediately. The games are boring, lack depth and replay value, and are difficult to operate--most use the arrow keys to navigate instead of the mouse or track ball which we use. The printing projects lack choices, although they do produce nice output. All in all, a major disappointment.

On the other hand, the Lion King 2 Activity Center program which we bought at the same time is excellent. I think that the reason for the inconsistency is that while these programs are commissioned and marketed by Disney Interactive, they are actually produced by different independent developers who apparently have a great deal of latitute in determining what goes into the finished product. Disney needs to exert more control on product definition and quality control if they want to avoid another black eye like this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and challenging!
I can't believe anyone had anything negative to say about this game - it's GREAT!!!! It has four fun games, and each one has three levels of difficulty. The games all relate to the movie, which my son really likes. It's a bit too advanced for my 3-year-old at this point, but he can do the easiest level of the cone game (getting the cones across a street while avoiding oncoming cars), and I help him play the other games. I think when he's about five he'll be more able to play it. It's VERY educational in the sense that the games require good memory, logical thinking, and strategy, anticipating the next several moves you should make. I'm 35 years old and no dummy, but the luggage game (a series of 10 mazes) took me about 30 tries before I could win! The first few mazes were easy, but they got progressively harder, with booby traps and decoy cases. Each time you play, you have to remember which way was the right way to go in each maze, or you can get trapped. Honestly, it's a LOT of fun! The "critter corral" game is a bit like checkers. The first level is easy, level two is more challenging, and level 3 is VERY hard - again, I'm an adult, and it's taking me lots of practice to learn how to beat it! The Toy Shelf game is a fun arcade game. The only weak spots are the two art sections, but all in all, I think it's definitely worth the money for four fun, challenging games that are entertaining for kids OR adults. We got the game four days ago, and my son still asks for it immediately when he wakes up in the morning, and wants to play it three or four times a day.

1-0 out of 5 stars Loser
My 4 year-old (who is great at playing cd games) lost interest in 10 minutes. This is a badly designed game with minimal graphics and no story. There are a few games like "print" where you click on something and it prints...you don't even get to choose the character. The cone crossing game uses the arrow keys, not the mouse. And it crashes badly on the Mac. It is very un-Mac like. Too bad, we are such great fans of the movie. But save your money here. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it
I have never seen a worse product for children, of any age.

First of all -- it has bugs! That's a total no-no.

The instructions are obtuse, at best. Sometimes they are downright misleading.

Some screens don't have the exit arrow at all and you have to stumble through the program to get out.

The modules are unimaginative, unvaried and downright boring. In addition, they are really not rated right by age -- they are much too easy for my pre-schooler, let alone a kindergartner!

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY Disappointing
This software is so ridiculously easy that I can't fathom how Disney came up with the age designation. Having purchased Disney learning cd's in the past which were labeled for the age groups of "Preschool" and "Ages 3-6", we naturally thought that software labeled for "Ages 4-6" would be at least at the same level as the "Ages 3-6", and hopefully a little more challenging. This wasn't the case at all. Their idea of "Simple Arithmetic" is to have the child click on the number that is said and then the game counts that number of balloons for them. This is nothing more than number identification for the child. The "Early Reading and Spelling" consists of matching a word to a picture, or finding a picture that starts with a featured letter. "Language and Verbs" doesn't teach anything at all. The child just clicks on one of three words, all verbs, and watches Tigger perform that action. Someone tell me, how does choosing between "sit", "dance", and "bounce" teach a person anything about language or verbs! I won't even get started on the lazy way in which the foreign language is incorporated.

The only redeeming section of this software is the part where Tigger is helped in following a treasure map. This was a nice way of teaching compass directions.

This game was cheaply done in every way - content to graphics. Such a shame. Two other Disney learning software titles that we thought were decent, Ready for Math and Ready to Read, were much better. ...

1-0 out of 5 stars Tsk tsk....
Shame on Disney Interactive! In less than 18 months the re-release games with very little additions for the same price as the original! No discounts for owners of the original. This is as bad as buying a DVD and a special edition comes out soon after. If this is their new strategy, you might as well wait a year for the next addition! By the way: what's with the skimpy amount of content? There used to be more activities on your CD roms! Orig. title 2 1/2 stars, little value added version: 1 star!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but maybe a little easy for 5 & 6 year olds
We just got our computer, and my son loves Pooh. He is almost 5 years old, so we purchased this game for him. In the game each section has 3 levels in which you get a gold star for each one completed. It has eight different areas which your child can go into. When you are done getting all the gold stars for each level, there is a graduation with Pooh and the other characters. Most areas he had no problem with. A couple areas took him a little longer. We have had this came for 2 weeks now and he has already graduated about 7 times. However, he still loves to play it. (Although, it could be because it's the only one he has). All in all, he has learned a few things he didn't know before and he has fun with it. ... Read more
