There's more to the Internet than surfing sites, downloading music, andbuying stuff. Procomm Plus, a must-have shareware application back in thepre-Web days, still fulfills its functions of old, allowing users to telnet(which is useful for, say, configuring a router), dial in to BBS's (bulletinboard systems for the uninitiated; these used to be the equivalent of personalWeb pages and download servers), and more. In addition, Procomm Plus is apowerful terminal emulator, offering support for three dozen terminals. It alsofeatures a fax applet, FTP ability, an e-mail program, and even a Usenet newsreader.

Even for all its functionality, Procomm Plus isn't for the faint of heart. Itsinterface, consisting of pull-down menus and unlabeled icons with commands thatare identified only by mouse-over tips, is a throwback to the days whenuser-friendliness was a rarity. Its terminal emulation, mail, FTP, Usenet, andother functions reside in different executables, yet you can make system-widesetup changes from most of them. ASPECT, its scripting language, is powerful,and a handful of sample scripts are included--but manually editing scripts isakin to full-on programming.

Procomm Plus DOES Work with XP
I write Aspect scripts that are used everyday by hundreds of clients, a large portion of them XP. Our scripts involve highly complex bbs navigations, and they all work!

Must have.
I'm a road warrior that test telecom equipment. and Procomm plus is a must have for VT-320 emulations.

ProComm Plus DOES NOT work with Windows XP, You can make it dial, but you cannot use a .dir file, aspects, or scripts.

Sorry this not a review but I need iformation before i make an oder. I need an emulator for NT & 2000 that facilites drag and drop facility while using FTP functionality when connecting to a unix host.

beats the old mac extension
I purchased Conflict Catcher to replace the existing extension that came with 9.1 because of problems with the software. It crashes, hogs some memory and has limited function compareable to the most colorful Conflict Catcher which has more function than a hard bound encyclopedia. Its function is apparent during the start up and you can adjust the icons to its smaller size to avoid less clutter on the desktop upon startup. You can make multiple sets of extensions to reduce the amount of existing extensions needed so the computer can run smoothly without slowing down. If there is conflict with a particular extension software, the Conflict catcher will alert you to it so you can make a decision to ignore the problem extension software entirely, or even better, to delete the offending extension to ensure a smooth ride to your desktop. ... Easy to install: Use is intuitive.
If it has to do with connectivity this package has it. It is loaded with tools and information. If you are too lazy to read it has wizards. I use it mainly to get to the CDE interface on the HP/UX systems. This package also reaches mainframes and AS400's. It does all the NFS and X things you can think of. This is actually a first rate product. Consolidate your windows desktop with an X server. A little too pricey for home use unfortunately, but definitely worth it if you work with both environments in a corporate setting. ... Read more
