Second best
I am something of an OCR fanatic because I depend a lot on being able to digitize research material for compact storage and easy access. I began some years ago with TextBridge and looked forward to seeing what Scansoft had done in melding the features of TextBridge and OmniPage. The result was a big disappointment. The ability to make PDFs in one step is a major improvement but they "lost" one the features that I find most important -- automatic separation of a scan of two pages at once from a book into separate scan pages. And the recognition accuracy and flexibility doesn't even come close to the standards set by ABBYY FineReader 5.0 (or even the earlier versions of FR!).

The one significant advantage of OP over FR is its ability to accept PDF files directly as inputs. Unless that is of overwhelming importance to you and your needs for recognition of complex material are modest, I would definitely skip OmniPage and get FineReader instead -- and save a bundle of money in the process.

Essential Document Management Tool
This is a must-have program is you scan documents or receive faxes on your PC. It takes optical scanning recognition (OCR) to a level I never thought possible, and is a quantum leap from the OCR software that comes bundled with most scanners. ScanSoft, the manufacturer, claims a 40% improvement and from my experience I will not dispute this.

What I love, though is the fact that it handles columns and tables by doing a near-perfect conversion. It will also save your scanned files as HTML, which is a real plus if you have a web site and want to quickly add pages without creating them from scratch.

Adding to the power is the ability to import Adobe PDF files and convert them into Word documents, as well as to export your scanned documents as PDF files. This feature is convenient, but does not fully replace Adobe Acrobat 5.0, which does a lot more (see the Amazon product page for a fuller description of this software).

Other strengths is the "despeckle" module that will read scanned documents that have smears and other imperfections that will confuse other OCR programs.

I am using this software on a Windows 98 Second Edition system with a Canon CanoScan N650U USB scanner (the scanner is available from Amazon), and have been nothing but pleased with it. If you handle documents, especially faxes or paper, this will be one of your most essential tools. ... Read more

TextBridge that goes nowhere
This product is completely worthless. I am pretty good w/ computer hard/software but I wasted far too much time trying to get this program to work decently. The writers of this program must have dropped acid while they were writing the code for TextBridge...and I trusted the Xerox name. Shame on me!

What I get for not listening . . .
I read all the other reviews on Amazon, and I bought this software anyway. What a mistake. I had installation problems as well (running Windows 2000 Professional and Office 2000 Premium). I kept getting some sort of registry error, and each time I got the error I was told to reboot my machine (which is only 2 months old). However, when I was finally able to get the software to work (which wasn't long because it kept crashing), I discovered that the accuracy stinks. There is NO way this software is "over 99% accurate" as it advertised. I have a limited edition version of OmniPage 7.0 that came with another scanner that is more accurate than this software. And, don't think that what I was scanning was complicated. It was black and white, plain vanilla text on clean paper. Don't make the same mistake I did in buying this software. You'll regret it. ...

Amazing Software that works!
This software does what it is suppose to do. It takes scanned text and converts it to editable text. I have never seen a piece of software so inexpensive that actually works!

Better yet, it can auto-detect zones. The software knows where the graphics are and where the text are. I love it because I do not want to do that myself.

I would rate that the Optical Character Recognition is the closest to 100% perfect! The best results come from grayscale 300 dpi settings.

I would recommend this to anyone.

Don't buy this software
This software is majorly messed up. When it works it does what it says, but it's a major pain to get it to work. It's constantly giving me errors and refusing to scan. This was the worst software purchase I've ever made. It doesn't even deserve the one star minimum.

TextBridge Pro Millennium
TextBridge Pro Millennium was a big disapointment. First of all it was the installation phase, it seems that when it reaches the part where it goes to add TextBridge menu to Word 2000, it fails and produces an error, then exits setup. Second, There's a major glitch in the software and I don't think the company is able to resolve it. I have been communicating with them for months with no solution. Third, everytime you contact/email customer support, you get a different person handling your problem (it is not like your file/problem is assigned to one person). Get business cards into electronics fast
Tired of the piles of business cards on the desk? This may be the solution to a clean desk. The scanner scans each business card and the software places the text into its corresponding fields in the address book. The scanned image goes in the address book entry.

The set up including installing the software, connecting the scanner into the USB port, and scanning the first card takes ten minutes. Like any scanner on the market, the scanned text has typos and it is not always in the correct field. The software compensates by retaining a scanned image in the address book entry for easy reference.

Use the CardScan software and integrate it with other technologies. Click on a contact's address while connected to the Internet and it takes you to Mapquest for a map. Include a personal business card with outgoing Outlook emails. Transfer contact information to compatible PDAs, contact managers, digital mobile phones or paper organizer software.

Also useful especially for travelers is CardScan.Net, a secure server that stores the scanned contact information for accessing on any Web browser using a personal password.

Get those Business Cards under control
Do you have stacks of business cards sitting in boxes are wrapped up in rubber bands? Do you come back from a trade show or meeting with a pocket full of cards and never do anything with them? If so the Corex Cardscan is for you.

I've used it for over 6 months and love it. Installation was easy - follow the instructions - install software - plug in the USB cable. The scanner is very fast and very accurate. I normally don't have to make any corrections to the scanning results. Cards with very unusual fonts or layouts sometimes need correction. The included software works flawlessly with ACT! or outlook. Another cool feature is the link to the Cardscan.net site. This allows you to back-up/store and access your business card file on online. It is also very easy to use. Again I have found this to be a lifesaver for handling business cards and with many months of use I have had no problems.

Great easy to use product
To the person who says it doesnt scan the graphics - it does.
It can store the image from both sides of the card and the english text from one side.
I find it easy to use and very useful. Mostly i dont bother to verify the cards as there is almost always enough data stored correctly.

Why only 4 stars

I would like easier ways to select which contacts to transfer into other programs (I scan everything since its so easy but i dont need a lot of the data on a daily basis so i dont want to transfer everything) and easier ways to split and merge databases by batch selection. It has these facilities but its too hard !

As someone who lives and travels in Asia many of my cards have the local language details on the back. You can scan the back you cant print it. Give a printed copy to a cab driver is an easy way to get to where i want to go when i cant speak the language.

Finally the copy and paste is fiddly.

But i use it every day and i have all my cards going back 7 years accessible by a simple text search.

Unfortunately the software does not work under XP for users that do not have administrator privileges. Corex claims that this is not a "bug" but rather you must be a "power user" (aka administrator) to use this product. After two fruitless hours of experimentation with changing access rights to the program file directories, I relented and elevated my user's level to administrator. After that the cards scan fine.

If you think the software works well....
You should try using it with the CardScan 600C scanner. I used to own the 500 model scanner, but when they created this color scanning device-I had to have it. Not only did the OCR improve from the previous version, it is now a USB only scanner, that's much sleaker and smaller than it's predecessor. I scan, and with the click of a button (after the setup of course) I can send all the information into my Outlook Contacts folder, or my Palm Pilot address book. This thing is great, where has it been all my life, now to attack the huge pile of business cards that I have sitting around my desk!

Excelent Software for small Price
Cardscan 6.0 is by far the smartest way of getting the information contained on a business card into your computer.

You simply put the card on your twain compatible scanner click the scan button and of it goes.

After scanning a batch of cards, one has the option to assign some batch prossesing to the scanned cards and OCR process the scanned images.

This works rather well. Though on several occasions the program is not quite sure where to put the information. It sometimes puts names into titel fields, and the addresses need to be reworked on a regular basis. But all in all this is still quicker than typing.

Card Scan 6.0 includes all neccessary export funtions to join your scanned contacts with your outlook express/ Outlook and a whole lot of other email and address based comunication tools.

This is what make Card Scan so powerfull: Being able to scan lets say 100 address lables for a mail shot, then converting them to a windows address book and using the names and addesses to perform a mailmerge in Word, thus beeing able to reuse them for the next mailshot.

I have been setting Card Scan up in my offices and people are finding it an easy and helpful addition to their usual tasks. We see our customer database grow and it helps us to keep in touch with the rest of the world.
