simple package that serves its purpose
After reading the prior reviews, I'd say my review falls somewhere in the middle.

The negative:
Yes, it is annoying (and costly) that the software is locked for a specific tax year upon installation. I wonder just how much the value of a used pair of jeans actually fluctuates year-to-year? Especially since upon buying the software you have the choice of locking for 2002 or 2003! I also found it aggravating that you could not print out any reports that include their listing of the fair market prices. I also agree that the groupings of items are limited, though it worked well enough for us (since we mostly donate clothing).

The positive:
I did not have any problems installing or using the product. Part of that is probably because this package is nothing more than a glorified spreadsheet of wholesale prices. There's not a lot to it, really. However, the results of the software are indisputible as far as I'm concerned.

In past years my wife and I have basically guessed at the fair market prices of our yearly donations to Goodwill. Basically that amounted to assigning garagesale low prices. This year we used ItsDeductible... and WHOA what a difference! We found out we had been WAY underestimating our prices. This alone paid for the price of the software tenfold. Your results may vary, but I will say: if you've been guessing at prices, you're probably wrong!

Using TurboTax it imported my ItsDeductible data smoothly. All in all we are pleased with this software and will purchase the 2003 version next tax season.

Great product - It saved me well over $1500
I read the first guys review here on Amazon, and he needs to get a clue. He totally misses the point of the software. The features are pretty good, but the real value is that it has tons of values for all kinds of items based on the condition of the items.

I used this software this year because we moved and donated quite a bit of stuff. I had almost $4500 of non-cash deductions using this product, and there is no way I would have risked that high of a deduction on my own. I would say about 80% of the stuff we gave away was listed in the software, and thats not too bad. The alternative is to figure out what stuff is worth yourself, which nobody will really do, so the only thing you can do is guess.

I am definately a satisfied customer!

"Please send us $19.99 for an imcomplete software package"
should be their marketing call. After I spent $19.99 for this, I went to writeoff a computer I donated to a school. A message popped up, "You must pay $10 to get the "Computer and Electronics" part of this program."

I have seen better ethics from porn spammers.

As a 6 year customer of TurboTax, this is my last year using Intuit products. Last year's militant software protection was the first straw, this is the last.

ITSDISGUSTIBLE
Beware. Only until after I had purchased this product did I find out it was restricted to one use, one year only. You cannot use it for other members of your family household. Smacks of the earlier attempt by TurboTax to limit use of that product to a single computer, the one on which it was registered. I am tired of such antic$. I have switched to TAXCUT and also returned this one.
Customer service said "we are not in Calcutta" but I did not pursue that point.

A must have for garage sale addicts. My usual pile of donations was valued at over eighteen hundred dollars, according to the software. Valuations tend to be over thrift store prices. A LOT of work!
I first used this program 10 years ago when it was just about the only film budgeting program available. I've since used other programs which were a lot easier to use.

First of all, it's just too complicated! I mean, after you buy the program you have to PAY for classes (or buy another CD), just to learn how to use it. For this much money I expected more.

Many of the "templates" for major and minor studios are for companies long since out of business. (By-the-way, I've never had a studio, distributor, etc., EVER ask me to provide a budget on a specific template.)

The latest version is still pretty much the same thing they sold years ago. You're was forced to go through level after level of detail just to change one thing. I don't think a program should be designed this way. You ought to be able to just change a figure here or there and see the difference. Heck, even a spreadsheet can do this very easily.

Also, the program STILL prints out a bunch of largely blank pages...a waste of paper and time.

Even though there are a bunch of templates included with the package, they all kind of look the same anyhow...just moved around a bit.

I don't know about others, but for me a film budget is something you make to prove to others you can make the film (or commercial, documentary, etc.), for what you say you can. That is, I plan to spend this much above the line and this much below the line...and this is how I want to spend it all. So, all that budgeting detail (which is fine), is kind of a waste of time. Exactly how much you spend/spent on something is something best left for an accounting program.

But the BIG problem with Movie Magic is that you can't share an electronic version of your budget with anyone else unless they have a copy of the program too!

The good news is that the program didn't crash on me this time. It's a much more stable program than before. But I still think you should save your budget often...and with different names so if it does crash you haven't lost everything.

Worth it!
The $100 investment in worth it! We've had to pay our tax preparer over $800 to calculate our taxes this year. We keep good records and decided to find out how close we would come to his calculations by doing it ourselves with Turbotax Business. Let's just say that next year we'll be doing our taxes ourselves.

A sink hole of time and worse than useless
This program proposes to assist you with filing corporate (including "S" corp) taxes.

It deserves a rating of minus 10 stars.

It is hardly more than a fill-in-the-blank set of continuous forms. It assumes you are fully familiar with the entire multi-thousand page Federal Tax Code and offers no real on-screen assistance. In a word, it is a (...) waste of time, a vast black hole of time wasteage.

Besides, it demands a fearfully long registration process just to refuse the incredibly stupid junk e-mail that Intuit will smother you in if you do not turn off its relentless marketing junk.

For all of this, you should pay $100? Not next year.

streets ahead of the competition
This year I had the unenviable experience of buying both sets of software: Tax Cut Home & Business, which failed me utterly; and TurboTax Business, which worked just fine.

Tax Cut worked fine for my 1040, and with some difficulties it also worked for a 1041 trust return. But it simply could not file a corporate tax return, 1120-A. The software was buggy, it wouldn't print a sample return, and a week before the deadline it still hadn't updated the forms. Worst of all, an attempt to update had corrupted the file. (See the agonized comments on the Tax Cut Home & Business page.)

So I ordered TurboTax Business and paid for express delivery. It worked just fine, though of course I had to enter everything anew because the Tax Cut file was corrupted.

In the future, I will stick with TurboTax Business, and add a cheapo version of the personal tax software, which is available and cheapest. (I prefer to deal directly with the forms, without interference from an "interview.") But I will never again try to save a buck with Tax Cut Home & Business.

What's all the fuss???
I am not a CPA, nor am I a tax expert. However, I simply read the instructions, followed the recommendations, referred to my prior year 1120S for some minor guidance, and all seems to have gone just fine. The tax return went in the mail yesterday!

Maybe I'm blessed with a simple business model or lack some of the complications and complexities compared to the other reviewers but I really cannot complain about this product. I have had frustrating experiences with Intuit in the past but not this time.

My final comment is this: if the $100 I spent on this software helps me to permanently avoid the annual $2,000 payment to my CPA for tax preparation, then I'll gladly buy Turbo Tax Business year after year. The $1,900 difference will go to a Hawaiian vacation! Mahalo, Intuit!

Your killing me!
In my opinion, I'm sorry to say, TurboTax Business is about as useless as you can get. During the last three years I've used it and the same deficiencies continue with more being added "every day".

The most disturbing deficiency is when errors are found during the review. First of all these errors are simple reconciliations of two lines in the return. The software performs the math and numbers are entered through worksheets. However, when the review finds a reconciliation error, all the software says is something like "line 6 on form x is not equal to line 9 on form y". When you search for help, all it says is "line 6 on form x must equal to line 9 on form y", and that's all. To resolve the problem I've had to read the appropriate pubs, instructions, and forms myself.

Also, the itemization of the deduction isn't much better than paper and pencil. To use the software you need to know more than the software.

Incredibly powerful!
As I'm reading all the reviews, it seems the negative ones are written by people that are basically of "lower than average" IQ, and unable to RTFM.

I just purchased a copy of this on eBay, and yes, it is a lot of work setting up software this powerful to run your business.But in the long run, I would say it has DEFINITELY been worth it!

Ignore the "ignorant masses", and try the evaluation version to see if Accware will work for you.

Outrageous customer care expense... $ 70. per call
Well .....if I were an Arabic accountant I would
probably love this software. But, I am only a common
small business man who knows little about how to keep
up with my business. I had MUCH difficulty just getting
someone on the phone that I could understand.Seems all CSR's
at Accware are mostly Arabic/broken english speaking. No one
really helped me. They told me how to access the (SAMPLE
Business) that shows you what all that Accware can do.
That itself is difficult to understand and navigate if
you are technically challenged like myself. Then I find out
after my initial (30 days of free customer support) I will
have to pay about $[money] per call to receive help.

Old Version - Can't upgrade, useless!
This is an old version of the software 3.3, Icode will not upgrade it, so you have pay the total price for the new software.Version 3.3 don't even have a POS built in and CAN NOT be networked.
If you buy software from this company, they will FORCE you to take their software subscribtion plan (400.00 a year) and tech support plan (595.00).
The Accware 5.0 is good software, just bad management about all these adds on madatory charges.
