I periodically take my copy of the database file, and update our Quickbooks file. Like Quickbooks only 5 users can share one database "file". But Unlike Quicbooks, the database file called the "depot.file" is a community file which each user syncs and updates to in order to get the other community memember additions; one at a time. You can also use Customer Manager to set-up To-do's and set assignments and for other users. It track of open and closed jobs, set deadlines, provide alerts etc. You can customize the data your keep by adding fields to track customer by. You can also group what you are managing, just not customers. You can group by customer, vendor, supplier, employee, etc. For the price it worth exploring.
Customer Manager also allows you to keep track of 'projects.' However, it would be nice if these projects were imported from Quickbooks' Jobs list. Instead, one is left with double the work of typing project information. There are many other quirks with this particular software, but they are too many to list here. The idea behind this software has a lot of potential (i.e. sharing information with Quicbooks). However, it seems more like a beta release, and the programmers at Intuit have a lot more work ahead of them. I would steer clear of this one for now.
It's basic to say the least and while the project management and notes-keeping capabilities are useful if you don't want something at the other end of the scale like Act! or Maximizer, it's probably going to serve your needs if you're running an even moderately busy business. I bought Customer Manager because I found everything else I tried (see above) to be overkill and frankly cumbersome. Customer Manager seemed to be (from the product information on Intuit's site) exactly what I was looking for, a lightweight contacts database with the awesome bonus of synchronising with Quickbooks. The reality is that the database leaves much to be desired as far as organising contacts and my version of Quickbooks Pro 2003 does NOT synchronise with it because it's the Canadian version. Intuit's Web Site still does not specify that only the US versions of Quickbooks are compatible and I have never even had the courtesy of a reply from Intuit about it, despite three very polite requests for an update.
The advertising makes it sound so powerful but I cannot find much to do with it. It is like Intuit sold a shell they were developing to recapture development costs. Its kind of funny in a sick sort of way .. but I can't find much functionality in this product at all. It really doesn't do anything except list your customers and... nothing!

Until I bought this product, I had no beef with the company FranklinCovey. I have been using their paper planner for the last 6 years. I had hoped that PlanPlus would simplify my life by allowing me to use planning tools while in Outlook. In reality, I have had nothing but trouble with the nearly impossible installation, the buggy product, and the infuriating tech support. It started when I tried to install the product on my laptop. I worked with their tech support online (they charge if you want to actually speak with someone). I went through quite a few tech support people, many of whom seemed to repeat the same mantra of "uninstall/reinstall" which I did countless times. I really had to push them to get them to help me. When they were stumped and they said they would research the issue and get back to me and of course they never did. Eventually I got someone online and I would not let them go until we resolved the installation problem. After 5 days of working at this, it was finally installed. To my horror, it slowed down outlook so significantly that I decided to uninstall it. Around the same time I was dealing with problems with the install on my laptop, I was trying to also install this on my desktop PC. I worked with tech support for about 3 weeks off and on. Again, they were stumped. They kept repeating the phrase, "We will get back to you at the earliest." I never heard back from them. Now I wonder what they meant. Was it the earliest ice age? The earliest millenium? They kind of left it open for interpretation. It's been several months now and I have wasted so much time on this. I was never able to install the product, I kept getting an error message and the installation would stop. I can't return the product because they don't accept returns on software if it has been opened. All I can do at this point is vow never to buy another FranklinCovey product again and encourage others to reconsider their plans to purchase this product. If you are a diehard Franklin Planner user, like I was, I would recommend that you stick with the paper planner - it's far less buggy and you won't have to deal with an indifferent tech support that will "get back to you at the earliest."
I do give them 2 stars instead of 1 because it's pretty. I decided to use it based on screenshots alone. Outlook 2002 on its own is really dull, especially after you've looked at it daily for years. The extras (like the Compass, Mission/Values, and Goals) are very similar to their planner kits' first few pages. So if you liked those, I'm sure you'll enjoy the extras on PlanPlus.
Plun Plus has a nice interface-- I like having all the outlook features in front of me and it's relatively easy to use the FranklinCovey tools. That said, it takes forever to load Outlook now and probably every third time I open an email box, I get 90 seconds of the hourglass. The irony is stark: this tool that promises increased productivity has become a barrier to that objective. I wish I had paid attention to the 30-day try-out period, because I would have sent it back. Wish I had bought it on Amazon, too, because I would have payed considerably less. ... Read more

It was little things that bothered me about the printout capability. Although the program added lines to cut paper for reduced size used in planners, the size for a standard planner is not 8½x5½ as it should be, but rather 8x5. Also, there is no easy way of making double sided printouts using the program - you need either a printer capable of double-sided printing or the patience to develop your own process. I was totally frustrated with the synchronization capabilities of AnyTime Deluxe. Not all contact fields (phone numbers, e-mail, fax, etc) in the Palm Pilot were transferred to AnyTime. This was totally confusing, since the mapping rules with the program showed them to be properly mapped. For contact information, the Palm has pull down lists for defining type of contact (home phone, business phone, etc.). This info is not transferred into AnyTime Deluxe. Rather, there are its own pull down menus. When you use these pull-down list and sync with the Palm, the description is added to the phone number. (Example, if phone number in Palm is "555-1234" and you add description "Business Fax" in AnyTime and resync, phone number in Palm is "Business Fax 555-1234", using up precious display space in Palm lists.) Most frustrating, on several occasions when I changed info in my Palm and resynced, the synchronization program tried to delete all records in my Palm. Because of the frustrations with syncing, I uninstalled AnyTime. The program removed cleanly, but the synchronization conduit did not. It left its conduit in Palm's HotSync manager and failed to reactivate the conduits to Palm's desktop program. I had to uninstall and reinstall the Palm software and all other conduits I use to get back to where I was before trying AnyTime. My advice: If you use a Palm PDA, don't use AnyTime Deluxe.
The version 8.0 has a lot of bells and whistles, like fax/cell/watts numbers, direct connection to e-mail, and a few others. The technical assist to Anytime is non-existant, either by 3 no-responce e-mails or 45 minutes on the phone. I'd stick with version 2.0 if you can load it into your computer, otherwise stick with Outlook. ... Read more

Maximizer has allowed me to do the work of an entire team - making the company seem much larger to the outside world while making each client and potential client feel as though he or she is my most important account. How? 1) By giving me total, instant recall of all past conversations and events for tens of thousands of contacts. In the few seconds the receptionist is transferring the call, I can pull up the contact and review his entire history in terms of past conversations, meeting notes, documents and unlimited user-defined fields customized to my operation, 2) By giving me the ability to easily email quotes or other information which the person often receives while he or she is still on the phone with me, 3) By allowing me to attach and save those quotes or any type of electronic document to that client, 4) By giving me the memory of an elephant - enabling me to schedule contact reminders, some of which may be more than a year into the future, 5) By making it easy to quickly print labels and merge contact information for mass personalized mailings, faxes, or emails. The size of the project makes little difference. A personalized message can be sent to 20,000 people as easily as it can be sent to one person, 5) By continually embracing and integrating new technology into the system, 6) By allowing unlimited contacts per client thus reducing data entry for new contacts... I could continue the list for some time, but by now you have probably gotten the point. I'm completely sold on this application.... For only a few extra dollars, Maximizer 5.0 or Enterprise will add more time saving and business organizing features. Version 6.0 shows even more promise. To summarize: I would enthusiastically recommend this tool to my best friend while hoping my competitors never find it. (In case you're wondering, I am in no way associated with the MultiActive company or Maximizer.) ... Read more

But since then the featurelist grew, and so did the bugs! Goldmine has given our software department (and please note that we ARE a software company) nightmares. Especially moving from its internal database format to SQL server has been painfull to say the least. Although we do have a support contract, the local reseller refuses any serious help, because they just wants to sell us consultancy hours. It's (16 bit aging Borland based) database interface cripples the performance of our SQL server from 9000 records/sec to about 20/sec. And despite modern server, network and client PC, performance is a laugh. The amount of crashes of the GM client make the situation barely workable. If only we had an easy way to convert to another program, we would have abandonned this badly written and badly supported program years ago. Its a shame. Without the bugs it would remain our number one choice.

As the person below said, never, ever buy this product.
Since recently I purchased iPAQ handheld PC, I wanted to remove my paper Franklin Planner. Than's why I purchased this "terrible" software. I spent several days installing and uninstalling this software and MS Outlook with no success. The only thing that I can use was not very useful Daily priortized list and master task list and others. Even I still have problems in pring the planner documents. I don't know why are they selling this product. Never buy this product. ... Read more
