LapLink Everywhere is awesome! In a just few minutes I was able to download the application, connect to a remote computer through a web browser and exchange files -- super fast. Since that initial experience I've used Everywhere at the office to get my home computer files and keep up with my personal e-mail. Either from home or from any web browser I easily get access to my work PC (through the firewall) and retrieve files, even use remote control my office PC to launch and use business applications when unable to be there...

Laplink bankruptcy
This may be a nice product, but Laplink declared bankruptcy on March 18, leaving users with pending rebates (which are slow to process) in the lurch. Very satisfied
I bought version 6 rather than 7 from the comments of Amazon customers.

In years' past,I was a rapid 10 finger typist. But a year ago,I sustained a spinal cord injury causing numbness to my fingers.

With this software, I can type with an accuracy approaching what I could do when healthy. What I find remarkable is that, being Canadian, I tend to talk fast and slur a bit. Still, I find I can consistently achieve close to 90% accuracy.

One warning: this software needs a reasonably up to date computer. Those who comment negatively I suspect maybe installed their software on antiquated hardware.

If you have a good computer you should be able to install and up and running within half hour.

A tip: I got my software cheap on EBay- $50 cdn=$35 US. Again, get version 6 not 7.

If you think upgrading, forget it!
I am running both German and English versions 4.0 and thought upgrading to 6.0 with Windows XP would be a good idea. Forget it! The program froze! I uninstalled and then reinstalled. Now, it would't accept the product key printed on the box. There is no support. I send the product back, losing [the cost of] S&H.
If you buy, you are in for a rough ride!

If you are planning on buying any of ScanSoft's Dragon NaturallySpeaking software, I would urge you to first visit their website...to read up on their pricing scheme for tech support.

I quote, "You may contact ScanSoft Technical Support by email through the support section of this web site. Fill out a Problem Report Form and a response will be sent in a timely manner upon receipt. Each incident entered from the Problem Report Form with be charged $9.95. Email is a lower cost option to telephone support."

Nine dollars and ninety-five cents to get them to answer your tech support questions on their products?!?

But that's not the worst of it. Notice the last sentence of that quote. "Email is a lower cost option to telephone support."

Is it ever.

I quote further, "One free technical incident" support call per customer is allowed, each "Additional incidents $[money] each"; that's [money]cents for each additional call!

Consider yourself lucky, version 5 users don't even get the first free call.

So what does this mean? It means that if you don't get all of your problems solved in one phone call, or, heaven forbid, you have a problem somewhere down the line, you get the privilege of paying ScanSoft ...for any tech support you might need getting their product to run (and that's per call).

I wish you luck if you go ahead and buy this product; but please, don't just take my word for what I'm writing...do yourself a favor and check out their website for yourself first.

Assist for persons with disabilities
I have the original DragonNaturally Speaking. Although it worked fairly well, I found I spent as much time and effort -through keyboard and mouse correction - as I would in typing text. Version 6 is easier to use, makes fewer errors, and requires less correction. As a wannabe novelist, I find any voice recognition program inhibits creativity, especially when there are others within hearing range. As a person with a disability, I find DNS-v6 very helpful in letter and e-mail writing. Version 6 definitely requires less keyboard and mouse correction, although that is still a concern. Lots of bugs, packaged with unfriendliest customer service
Bought originally 10.1 version , then downloaded update since I am using Panther now. FAXstf X 10.5 constantly crashes, or cuts incoming faxes off in the middle. Called customer service (no 800 number - 20 min hold time) - a very unfriendly customer "service" agent explained that since I didn't buy FAXstf X for Panther, but downloaded the update, I do not qualify for customer support.
I use a lot of different software products for OS X, but this is the most problematic product with the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

not for handicaps
This software was useless to me. I am handicap but with 'good' speech. It could not recognize my speech.

The headset which comes with this product is made in China. It is too small for a 'average sized' American male with average length of hair.

All sound functions of the Mac are disabled by this software.

Native Spanish speakers were able to use this [speaking English].

Talk about a killer app!
Why is this application not in headlines everywhere? It is absolutely astounding, almost like magic. Like the box says, "revolutionary, not evolutionary." I decided to give it a try after seeing that it won Macworld 2000 "best of show" this year.I think this product signals the beginning of a whole new era in user interface. Just amazing.

Excellent software, approaching perfection.
I found this software beyond reproach. In only one day I was writing letters to people with about 95% accuracy. Since then it has improved to about 99%. This is a very smart piece of software that improves itself constantly, becoming ever more accurate. The secret is to put on a voice like that of a documentary host, speaking clearly and learning to accentuate your words properly. Since getting this software I have increased my own linguistic ability. Unless you like to speak gutter slang and slur your words you will find this software to be a real time-saver.

I said, "Below" not "Be Low" average...
I will make this short and sweet. I had high hopes in this software cuz I have to retype lots of text, some at 6 pt. size. So, rather than using Omnipage, I thought buying this software would be the answer to my prayers, read the paragraphs, cutting time and saving my fingertips. I come to realize that this software still makes many mistakes and I find myself spending more time proof-reading the document word for word, looking for mistaken words. I spent more time correcting the software's errors, so many, I felt I could have saved my $80 and a whole lot of time typing the materials in for myself. I found that OmniPage OCR actually had less errors than this Soft Where... I said "Software" !

Beyond Mere Novelty, Short Of Pure Utility
While Apple has offered ambitious attempts of its own at system-level speech recognition on the Macintosh for several years and even at present, it has been wise to promote IBM's entry into the Mac space. IBM has renowned chops in the voice rec department and proves it admirably with ViaVoice for Mac 1.0.

Initial training of the application requires a certain amount of diligence but is eventually rewarded by a remarkable accuracy and flexibility in the transcription process. It will require some patience and a conscientious effort by the user to accommodate the very complex nature of computer-based voice recognition. We may be but a year from 2001, but ViaVoice will not turn your computer into 'HAL' by any estimation. A combination of careful speech and fingers close to the keyboard may prove to be the most practical strategy when using this product.

It should also be noted that--as is ever the case with CPU-intensive applications such as ViaVoice--current-generation, high-performance hardware is recommended if not realistically required for optimal results.

Excellent
I am very impressed with this software. It is quite accurate and corrections are made quickly. I will tell you that it does take a few weeks to not only train the software but also to learn the commands; but once that is done, the program is EXCELLENT.

One other thing is that is says the required memory is 64MG RAM. Originally that was what we had and our machine would grind trying to run the program. We went out and purchased more memory and the program runs swiftly. No grinding. Smooth.

Absolutely great product for those with nerve damage in their back, carpal tunnel, or any other medical issues that might effect the use of your arms. The program is also great for those who may not type fast. It types as fast as you speak!

While these words can be easily corrected in the pop-up box that you can verbally call up, it tends to slow down the process, making this product of questionable value for good typists. While I probably make more typing mistakes, they are more quickly corrected during manual typing than with the use of this program. Those who "hunt and peck" however will very likely find this program worthwhile. So far I have found that it tends to be more accurate if I give it short sentences, or if I feed it about five or six words at a time. I try to give it enough information in each sentence segment so that it can change words based on the context of the sentence. Also by giving it smaller segments I noted that they are easier to correct in the pop-up box.

For the price - this program is worth the money. It's fun to use even if slower than if I had typed the document myself. My final verdict on its usefulness for proficient typists is not in yet, as I need to give it a better workout and see if it "learns" to be more accurate. Buyers Be Ware...
I had bought this software for two reasons. 1.I'm a bad typist and thought that by using this software, I would have to not have to use the keyboard as much and 2. Because someone had left a good review about this software!

Now for the bad news, I tried to install the software and it was deffective! I tried calling the tech. support help line, which is not a toll free 800 number. They were unable to help me. They told me that they would send an email to a higher up tech support member about my problem and get back to me the next day! Guess what I never heard from them again, the following week I called the same toll number! I asked the operator to connect me with a person in charge over technical support, I of course received a recording and left my telephone number. I still have not heard from this person either! So buyers please be ware! I am greatly displeased with there service and I would not recommend them to anyone even my worst enemy!!! I will never buy anything from this company again!!!!!

A little frustrating at first but great overall
When I got the program all I did was install it, read it a few paragraphs so that it could recognize my pronunciation and I was ready to go. At first it would type very little of what I said but after about a half an hour or so it was writing nearly everything correctly. It was about 99% accurate and I think with a little more getting used to I will be able to type anything much faster than before. You can control nearly every program on your desktop and even the internet (although the internet is a little difficult to master on the first day). I would definitely recommend this product to anyone on a tight budget but if you can, get one of the more expensive versions because more is included. Good overall fax system
For a fax program that is better than the windows version, this program is a no brainer. I have no trouble sending and receiving faxes. Good product to buy, no problems yet.

Compatibility Problems
Tried V4.0, did not reliably answer calls and it caused problems with my system seizing up when answering.

Complex - Performs less than Satisfactory in Answering Calls
Used version 3 and 4. Choices of mail boxes, answering calls,paging, and faxing. The first PC answering machine we used wasFaxWorks on a Packard Bell PC. In contrast, every other package we have tried performs a great deal of secondary options, yet they are less than adequate on answering phone calls for small businesses. Works Like a Charm
I've been using SpamKiller for almost a year on a P-III with 512MB of RAM, Roadrunner (Broadband service), Windows XP Home Edition and Outlook for XP and I haven't had a single problem with the program.

The ONLY reason I give it four stars instead of five is that it still lets about 4-5 SPAMS through out of the 50 I get per day. Also, occasionally I will close the program and instead of minimizing into my icon tray it will show up on my taskbar. I have to restart the program and minimize it again to make it go away. Of course, that's a small price to pay for such a useful program. It easily saves me 15 to 20 minutes a day and, contrary to some of the other reviews, SpamKiller filtered 800 messages for me in just a few minutes.

junk
firstly this product self installs mcafee security center, it will not install without it and cannot be removed and have spamkiller still function. there are hundreds of people on the mcaffee "support forum" (more on this below) asking hwo to get rid of security center. In a supreme irony Security center will generate popups all the time, meaning mcafee installs an unremovable program that spams you!

the support is just surreal. no mater what question you ask you by mail or "live chat" get a form reply that says, in short: "we didn't read your question, so here is an answer to something else, hopefully you will know better than to bother us next time" so people go to the support forums. here you never find a mcafee technition, but simply "forum administrators, who also never answer a question.

also the filters, very important for adapting to ever changing spamsubjects and methods, are rearely updated. I am still wating for keyword cialis which replaced viagra six monhths ago in spams!

this program will also not support filtering long messages. others here have mentioned it. since spammers are aware of this it can and is easily defeated on this front. there is an option to filter long messages but it doesn't work. moreover mcafee knows it doesnt. the one straight answer I got from mcafee was that long messaging filters didnt work with some providers. which? Comcast, verizon, earthlink and all the rest of the large providers...lol.

PLACE YOUR VOTE - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
If I could this organization would get no star. Program worked fine for a while, then I was unable to retrieve messages. Mcafee offers online Tech Chat that has not worked for 2 weeks and my e-mail has gone unanswered for an equal amount of time but sales on-line chat works everytime, immediately and 24/7. With service like this vote your dollars somewhere else until their revenues and and stock price subsequently suffer. This organization apparently has yet to learn that business success is largely a function of customer satisfaction, not accomplished by consistently ignoring you. If you have a problem good luck the support can easily cost more than the software and the live tech chat or e-mail assistance is available not 24/7 but 0/7 (my experience). I finally decided I wasted enough time and effort have uninstalled and am currently researching other alternatives and an organization that is available in the event support is required.

Don't waste your time with it!
First of all, it only blocked 60% of the junk emails. not a good batting average by any standards.

It's very hard to use. Takes forever to delete or block a message. Why? I'm using DSL, connection speed is pretty consistent. Tech support is no help what so ever.

For couple days I didn't have any message. at first I thought maybe it's the ISP. Then I remembered I can check my email online. Turn out Spam Killer is not working for some reason. Maybe too much junk mails. I cleaned up the mailbox and Spam killer worked again.

The last thing pushed me over the cliff is the program will delete everything in the accepted email folder when I simply asking it to delete or block one message. An error will come up and then everything is gone.

Deleted the thing from my computer, now everything is back to normal. I can live with the spam, can't stand this POS!

"Doesn't play well with others"
This is a quote I read somewhere regarding ViaVoice V.9 about its compatibility with other software on your Windows system. I got ViaVoice 9 up and running pretty quickly (and installed the mic after a bit of hassle due to Windows, not the software.) It does indeed recognize words well (though I'd have to put in a specialized dictionary of scientific terms like "proteomics" because ViaVoice thinks I said "show me your picks.") And it's fun hearing "Woodrow" the pencil-shaped cousin of the evil Clippy read in a voice borrowed from Stephen J. Hawkins.

But, though this works well in Speakpad, installing ViaVoice totally hosed my Microsoft Word, to the point I have to de-install the ViaVoice and HOPE I can get away without de-installing and re-installing Word. The software seems to change some kernel dll and this is NOT A GOOD THING.

If you need speech and read-back ability, and you can live with quirks like this, I'd say, it's a cheap way to get speech recognition software on your PC. (Might work for a budget-limited person with special needs.) But if you are going to dictate to Word or even USE Word without the speech, this is a no-no. Find another software package.

Unusable Product
This product is a total disaster. The ratio of correctly translated words to words the software misinterprets is roughly 8:1 at best. In my estimation it is unusable. Stay away!

ViaVoice 9 Standard Edition is a step up!
This is my third purchase of a ViaVoice product. The first two (Version 7, and Millenium Edition) were disappointing. I think it might have been because I didn't have a powerful enough processor with enough memory to run the application. The third try has been a charm! (I'm now running on a 500-Mhz, 256-Meg Pentium III.)

The installation was quick, easy, and straightforward. Based on other reviews (and experience with earlier releases), I expected 95-98% accuracy. My expectation was that the errors would be throughout the dictated document. To my surprise, they were localized to short phrases that were easily corrected, much easier than I found in earlier releases of the product.

I do have to be fairly consistent and clear in my speech, but I found that it adjusts to my own way of speaking quite well. What I was also surprised about was that I didn't have to speak each word with unnatural, uncomfortable distinction. I could speak as I normally do, in phrases rather than individual words. The tool does a great job of understanding what I'm trying to dictate.

My earlier experience required lots of mouse clicks after locating errors that had to be corrected. Very Limited
Some of the commands and navigation feaatures I assumed would be available weren't. You could not program a phrase to execute a macro, you need the full L&H version for that. I found it easier just to click and type than spell out my password and tell the computer how to navigate etc. ... Read more
